But why does every single conversation need to involve backhandedness about that? Like genuinely what is the point. What enjoyment does it provide you to knock the things you like down a few pegs in a fake-cute / mocking way every conversation about them?

Like for example I love Doctor Who. It literally saved my life as a teenager for a lot of reasons. Steven Moffat ruined it for a few seasons in the midst of that, and is lowkey a raging misogynist. Do I, every time I mention Doctor Who, go, “it is so true that my little misogyny Mary Sue Character Filled Alien show helped me through stuff 💖😍💖”? No! I do not! You don’t need to be cutting things down to size 24/7 when it’s not relevant to the actual discussion. People don’t need to be kept in check for every way in which the thing they love is not the second coming of Christ. Go enjoy something or just log off and go outside.
