Thank you for this ask! He does have a backstory! I created him ages ago, and I’ll share the piece I had commissioned for him! This is gonna be a really long reply so please bear with me!

This is my baby boy, Fate. Art is done by @/emily-e-draws! I didn’t commission his Zelda (I call her Karma), so unfortunately I don’t have anything for her. BUT!

Fate actually comes directly after Twilight, however he is NOT a descendant of him. Karma is Dusk's (Twilight's Zelda) great-great granddaughter. Fate is a young boy who was born to a Hylian couple that lived in Kakariko Village. They ran a small potions shop and worked alongside the village shaman Renado until he passed away, and his daughter Luda became shaman.

He was born without his sight, so that’s why his eyes are a milky blue. This makes doing things on his own incredibly difficult, so he spends most of his time traveling with a friend or with his mother and father. He found the Master Sword when he was fourteen during a walk in the woods by Ordon Village. He had hit it with his walking cane and was stunned by the sheer force of the magic that radiated from it. He touched the hilt of the sword and was absolutely aghast when he was able to see the traces of magic in everything around him. When he returned home with it in his hand, his mother and father were terrified. They had told him of the valiant Hero of Twilight growing up, the man who was very close to Renado, and depicted his journey in greater detail. Despite their pleas to put the sword back and never return to the place where he'd gotten it, Fate refused and kept the Master Sword. He began to learn the art of swordsmanship using a book he'd been given by Luda that was written by the Hero of Twilight himself. The book depicted all of his skills and everything he'd learned from his own mentor, and it took a bit of time, patience from Luda, and a *lot* of bloody bandages before he was able to learn every single skill.

Fate met Karma when he was 16, and they immediately became friends, but a friendship between the princess and the son of a potions master was frowned upon, so their friendship was shrouded in secrecy.

During their leisure walk in the gardens where he explained how he found the Master Sword, he was ambushed and killed right in front of her by a swarm of monsters. Those same monsters kidnapped Karma, leaving the boy's body in the garden. He found himself in a white expanse, and held his hand before his eyes as the four Spirits of Light- Ordona, Eldin, Faron, and Lanayru- took form in front of him. *Child of Light, have courage. We have deemed you worthy of a second chance. Look, you have been blessed by the Spirit of the Hero. Zelda needs your aid. Now, rise, for the evils of Ganondorf return to this land. Go, and save Hyrule from this blight.* He awoke in the Garden, took the Master Sword in hand, and went to say goodbye to his family before setting on his journey to find Zelda and defeat Ganondorf.

The Master Sword gives him the ability to “see” when he’s actively holding it, but when he joins the Chain, Sky is the only one who has the Master Sword, so he comes up with a spell that gives him the ability to “see” for a short period of time, and he can only use it a few times a day.

Since he’s blind, when he’s not using the Master Sword, Fate fights with his walking cane (it doubles as a staff) and a combat style called Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu, which is a grappling style of combat made to neutralize an enemy attack using their own force and energy against them. There are some videos on YouTube detailing how this technique is employed, and I actually had started writing how he meets the Chain, but I haven’t touched it in a while 😅

there's this horrible school of attempted literary criticism on here that holds that 1. everything in any given author's work is autobiographical, especially if it seems "real" and 2. those themes seeped into the work subconsciously, revealing something about the author that they're either trying to hide or unaware of themself. it drives me up a wall, since it seems to deny the fundamental skills that make people good writers: the empathy to imagine and portray experiences that one hasn't had oneself and the ability to take one's personal emotional experiences or worldview and fold them, consciously, into the unworked clay of a narrative.

Was trying to fall asleep and then started thinking about this, so I’ve come up with headcanons for how each member of the Chain sleeps. More below the cut—

Time: Primarily a side sleeper. He prefers to sleep on his right side like he would when sleeping with his wife. Sleeps with his arms crossed and has definitely woken up with at least one of his arms asleep

Wild: will either sleep in a tree or not at all. He will rationalize his “100-year nap” as “having had more than enough sleep” and can generally function without it for a while

Wind: Stomach sleeper. Either hugs his pillow or tucks his arms beneath his chest. When he’s sleeping nearby someone else, he’ll often roll into their general vicinity and cling. Doesn’t move much in his sleep

Sky: The most mobile sleeper ever. This mf MOVES. Often star-fishes or curls up tight enough to get leg cramps. Grumpy as hell and petty if woken up prematurely

Warriors: Back sleeper. Extremely stiff, doesn’t move at all. His long stint in the Hyrulean Army has taught him to be able to fall asleep fast and wake up faster, and he’s an extremely light sleeper. The slightest sound or movement will have him awake and alert in .036 seconds

Twilight: Back and side sleeper, space heater. Most commonly at the center of the cuddle piles. The most sought out for nightmare comfort. Weirdly will sleep with at least one knee up. Equally as ornery as Sky when first waking up. Snores loud enough to wake the whole world

Legend: Sleep fears him, and he fears it. Will do anything and everything to avoid sleep but still somehow remains functional for a couple days without it. Delirious after roughly three to four days without sleep. Surprisingly cuddly, tucks his hands beneath his chin when he actually does sleep

Hyrule: Plank. Completely face down, self smothering. When he feels safe, sleeps almost as deeply as Sky. When he feels unsafe, he wakes every half hour. Always sleeps with his sword or a smaller dagger

Four: CLINGYYYYY. He also moves a lot in his sleep and can sleep in any position. Makes little noises when he sleeps but doesn’t snore

Extra (The Colors):

Green- Most often found sharing a bedroll with someone else, usually Warriors or Sky.

Blue- sleeps in the same manner as Time, arms crossed. Mostly a back sleeper. Scowling even when asleep

Red- cuddlebug. Usually likes to nap with Legend when Legend finally gets some rest, strangely also a space heater.

Vio- back sleeper, commonly has a book on his chest or his face. Hands are either folded on his chest or sprawled above his head, there is no in between. Sleeps with his mouth open, light snorer. Moderate movement, will often wake up in awkward positions

Given that Emmrich (a highly competent and respected necromancer) can perceive Spite when near Lucanis, I bet that Dorian (also a highly competent and respected necromancer) would ALSO be able to percieve Spite.

Meanwhile Lucanis would be out here like "If I had a gold piece for every time a necromancer with a mustache could hear my demon's incessant rambling, I'd have two gold pieces. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice."

Only difference is while Emmrich uses his ability to try and be a good influence on Spite, Dorian would use it like an uncle who purposely gives terrible advice and lies for shits and giggles because he (correctly) thinks it would be very funny.

Stan and Soos' sorta-Dad and Sonployee relationship

We of course have Soos assigning Stan as his father figure the moment he got hired

But Stan holds that moment dear too, with Soos becoming his main source of company after the Mystery Shack, his first big success, was starting to hit rock bottom. And he made sure to keep the screwdriver that led Soos to him for a decade which unfortunately gets stolen by a certain time traveler...

(Their meeting being a paradox of Soos' family leading him to them is super sweet too!)

Playing one game of catch with their dads still was a dream for both of them, even when it was clear that it'll never happen, even when Soos knows that the Pines are his family and he shouldn't care about that biological deadbeat, even when Filbrick threw Stan away like trash.

But both of them end up finding closure with each other anyway.

Along with Stan likely teaching him how to fix golf carts (to the point that Soos is pretty skilled at it now), he also taught him boxing and tried to do something about his birthday, which is another sore spot for the both of them.

In the Sooscast, we have Stan continuing with the podcast despite learning this horrifying truth/not understanding what the hell is going on.

Noticeably, we see that Stan is a lot more lenient on Soos in comparison to Dipper, mostly because Stan doesn't project most of his issues onto him. (Not that he's immune from chores or shitty tasks but that's the burden of being a sonployee...)

And in NWHS, Stan trusts him to guard the lab with no questions asked (even if that ended up being foiled by Soos loving Mabel and Dipper too)

The comic story is Soos helping Stan regain and continue one of his childhood dreams, with the website having Stan continuing to draw on the Stan o' War.

And while unfortunately most of their father-son relationship content is at the end or after the series, Alex still said a lot about them in the commentary and interviews!

Before they met, Soos was someone who appeared to only really have his Abuelita and cousin, while Stan had.... a baby goat. And a disappearing frilly lizard.

We have Stan claiming that the reason why he never had children was because of his own dad and that money is basically his child (which just loops around back to his money obsession being his desire to get back his family)

But even still, he passes down the Shack and fez to Soos with barely any pause, the fez in particular being tied up with a lot of complex emotions. But Soos getting his own suit fitted just for him and not being pressured to wear a girdle to hide his weight kinda symbolizes to me that the role of Mr Mystery is now free from that baggage.

And whenever we'd end up getting Stan o' War stories, I'm sure the two of them are gonna get way more father-son moments
