the m6 + esme's modern music taste

i've had this in my mind a while, but specifically decided to post this because of @flu1dtrash 's post about julian's music taste :)

i have always believed that in a modern au julian wouldn't listen to that much new music. i mean, he was raised by a group of grandma's - he likes older music. that being said, he probably listens to a wide variety of genres. i think he'd really like classic rock, and any anthem-esque song that people can all belt at the tops of their lungs (several queen songs are good for that)(that's also why he likes sea-shanties, though i don't know if he would really be exposed to those in a modern au 😭)

asra would listen to anything. i mean it. by-the-book jazz, vocaloid, musical theater, hip-hop, emo pop, you name it. he's just like me. he listens to the krusty krab pizza song from spongebob regularly

portia was raised by grandmas as well, but i think she likes contemporary music as well as oldies. she definitely likes 80s girls pop songs (see cyndi lauper and tiffany). also would listen to the krusty krab pizza song.

nadia. i wanted to give her something other than classical music, but i can't see her liking anything else more. she is a princess, after all. she loves piano especially, and portia likes showing her piano covers of modern songs. to a lesser degree, she's also one to dance when drunk and sing karaoke to soulful pop songs

muriel would listen to lofi constantly, and enjoy music that implement aspects of lofi (khai dreams)

lucio also likes 80s girls pop. are there any questions or objections

Jeff, at first, wasn't very interested in you. You were cute and all, but that kinda attitude never really drew him in.

That was until he came back from a mission one day with an injured arm, and since Jack wasn't there to assist him, he had to try to doctor and wrap it himself. You noticed his obvious struggling and stepped over to offer your help, and a little startled, he allowed you to take the reigns.

He couldn't figure out why you would go out of your way to do this for him, when you probably had plenty of other - more important - things to tend to. When you were finished, he blinked down at you, muttered a hesitant, "uhh...thanks", and you gave a meek grin in response.

He kind of started seeing you differently after that event, and he couldn't quite decipher why.

All he knew was that suddenly, he noticed your presence whenever you walked into the room, he'd listen to what you were saying at all times, and he even began to snort at the little jokes you told, even if some of them were cheesy. He did this quietly, of course, but you didn't fail to note it.

And one day, he saw you giving his good boy Smile the affection he deserves, and his heart melted. That was when he realized that he definitely might have had a teensy eensy crush on you.

This 'crush' only evolved as time progressed, and he decided maybe it would be worth his time to get to know you, so that's exactly what he did.

A bit abrasively, sure, but what more can you expect from Jeff?

The moment you first giggled at a snarky, off-handed comment he made about one of the other residents was the moment he felt a new kind of accomplishment.

He adored how you sounded when you laughed - especially because of him - so he made a viable effort to get that reaction out of you whenever he had a chance. It made his pride swell every time he succeeded.

He didn't bother using small talk to get closer to you, nor did he use typical flirting tactics - he simply acted like himself (perhaps dialed back a bit so you wouldn't be overwhelmed), as Jeff is capable of being no other way. Thankfully, this worked in his favor.

Liu convinced him that you were receptive to his, uh...advances? And told him to just go for it, as the worst thing that could happen was rejection.

He begrudgingly took his advice and sorta just blurted out a confession while the two of you were in the middle of watching TV.

"Yeah, uh, by the way, I like you a lot I think."

It was a bit startling but you were flattered nonetheless.

As a boyfriend, Jeff is surprisingly mature. He isn't needy or possessive, and he rarely gets jealous to a concerning extent, unless you just intentionally throw yourself at another attractive individual.

It's often overshadowed by his tendency to be brash and easily annoyed, but when his walls are down, he can be rather sweet, and you and his brother are really the only ones that have access to this hidden side of him.

When a chill sweeps your body, he will not hesitate to wrap you in a blanket burrito and then proceed to take a picture of you, where he'll then make it his screen saver. And he'll swaddle you tightly too - like, you have to fight to escape the blanket's grasp, and he'll either sit there and watch in amusement or leave you alone to your own devices.

Honestly, he was a very big Spongebob fan when he was a kid, so he will eagerly flop down onto the couch next to you when it turns on, singing along to the intro in the dumbest pirate voice he can muster.

Despite his normally light-spirited personality, he can get serious when the moment calls for it. When you get anxious, have a panic attack, get flashbacks, or have a nightmare, he is there to help in whatever way he possibly can.

He's not an expert by any means at comforting people, but he will do his absolute best to talk you down, keep his tone soft, reassure you that everything's okay, and offer physical contact when it's needed. He doesn't like seeing you genuinely upset, over anything, so puts an extra amount of effort into making sure you're alright.

He was never really into video games, but you got him hooked on Animal Crossing, and now he can legit spend hours playing it at a single time.

Like you try to drag him away and he's just like, "yeah yeah, in a minute" and will be there for another three hours if you let him.

It isn't his fault the game's so freaking addictive!

If you ever happen to fall asleep with him, beware. This man is a snorer.

He claims he isn't, of course, but that doesn't magically make it true.

I also hope you like being scared outta your wits from time to time because Jeff will certainly deliver on that.

🎶Stuck in an Adhd Rut Part 2🎷🪲

Are you still stuck? I made another guide because I gathered more information that could help! And plus I am always in a rut at least every week or so, aha!

Start a writing routine/ritual. It's like waking up in the morning, brushing your teeth, or showering…a nice and simple habit! Habits are hard, but we're going to try what is called Putting Yourself in a Productive Environment. Try your best to write at a certain time of the day when you’re the most able to focus (for me it's at 10 pm). Writing at the same time and same place is roughly habit-related I think. So that is probably good! To add to my Writing Ritual, I like to make tea. But how will we make a productive environment? Well…

✨️Ambience.✨️ In the last post, I mentioned putting yourself in a place to write that isn't where you do your boring work or slack off. I decided to go more into depth now that I have found things that could help more. Below are a few things You can try to make your work environment more productive!

Try colored lighting or those videos that have a fireplace, outer space, or rainforest in the background. You know what I mean??

Make sure you are comfortable because an aching back due to the chair you are sitting in makes it very difficult to focus!

Use full-screen mode in your writing app if you can. This will help minimize those pesky tabs and will prevent you from googling unnecessary things like the number of sexes mushrooms have (unless that is a part of your story)!

Try a focus app to get you back on track. Time passes in strange ways for those with ADHD, so constantly setting timers is a must for some people (I am some people)!

Play the playlists you made for your story! It really helps when I can imagine my characters in the songs. 

Try the Pomodoro method (work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break)! Of course, you can tailor this however you like. Each app below has a timer method of some sort to help you stay on track, but each has its own quirk! From least to most complex, we have… 

Pomodoro Timer (minimalist design, no distractions)

Virtual Cottage (a cozy cottage setting with togglable ambiances such as weather, a fireplace, and lofi music) 

Forest: Focus for Productivity (you get to grow plants while you work; also has togglable nature ambiances)

Focus Plant: Pomodoro Forest (this one is super interactive and reminds me of My Singing Monsters)

(Disclaimer: Every app mentioned can be found for free in the Play Store, except for Virtual Cottage, which is free on Steam. If there are any other good focus apps, then feel free to mention them! Help some people out!)

To remember everything that helps you, create a Writing Checklist. Make it pretty or funny or whatever gets you to remember it–add pictures, gifs, etc! Post it on your desk, computer, phone…Personally, sticky notes do not help me. But if I remember how aesthetic or funny I made the checklist, it helps it stick a bit more. It also helps if it's on the front page of my writing app!

What's in my Writing Checklist? I divided mine into 2 sections: "Writing Prep," and "It's Time to Write!" In Writing Prep are the things I must include to set up my writing environment, aka everything I mentioned above. When It's Time to Write, I have to remember to…

Body double if I can. Body doubling is working alongside someone, which can help put you in a productive mood. Think of a study hall or library!

Time myself while I work and take breaks in between. Remember that what you do during breaks matters, too!

Set a clear goal before writing. This is to make sure I don’t go overboard and so I have a sense of completion after finishing my task! It also serves as a checkpoint where I can ask myself if I am ready to continue or stop writing for a bit. 

Have a page I can refer back to that summarizes the plot and purpose of the story. I find that fumbling through pages and pages of lore derails me!

Have some rewards on hand. Look, the ADHD brain is like a little child that wants a sticker or a treat when you do the Right Thing. So when I finish a task, a treat for me!

Hydrate and eat something during breaks! Breaks are your downtime. Everyone needs a break every once in a while, and that means it’s time to take care of You!

I tried to be concise while cramming in as much information as I could because I am the type of person who needs the information NOW. I hope someone can benefit from it, and if anyone has any more tips, I would love to hear them and I'm sure others would, too!

I love all three, I can't pick one >< I guess if I had to, the afternoon. It's when I'm most awake and usually do the most stuff. But nightime is really pretty, and it's nice to wake up early in the morning sometimes and have a coffee.

He’s a very chill skeleton, for the most part, but has just a tad bit of anxiety.

Doesn’t matter what you wear, he thinks you literally look like a model in your hoodies.

He’ll even give you some of his jackets, especially since they’ll more than likely be big on you since he’s well over 6 ft. He also does this whenever you get cold!

If you wanted help on art, he’s an artist so he’s willing to give some tips to you!

He’s the same way with being a bit shy at first but then when he gets comfy around you, he gets chaotic aswell.

So by the time y’all are in a relationship, you’re both the chaotic duo we all love and want to be!

He thinks your kindness is the sweetest and cutest thing ever, hell if you wanted to volunteer at something like a charity event, he’ll come too.

I have a feeling he’s terrified of bugs honestly.

He’s a good listener atleast so if you wanted to rant to him about your books, he’ll listen and try to understand!

If you’re ever having mental breakdowns or panic attacks related to your anxieties or PTSD, he’ll do his best to get you away from any triggers and to calm you down.

He’ll do basically anything with you; watch your favorite shows, play multiplayer video games with you, listen to your music, everything!

No joke, he would get animal crossing just because you wanted to play multiplayer on it with him
