so we (and by we, i mean the very specific overlap of jews and nerds among whom i make my home) talk a lot about how tolkien's dwarves, in both the books and movies, were likely influenced by certain jewish stereotypes. obsessed with gold/wealth, secretive (especially about their language and religion), refugees from their ancestral home, portrayed with big, sometimes hooked, noses and interesting facial hair, and most specifically: the favourite little meow meows of one particular god, causing them to be shunned and persecuted by other races and creeds. this is likely unintentional, coming from the subconscious of tolkien in the same way orcs were "based on mongols" (ew colonialism) and activating subconscious biases/stereotypes in the people who designed the dwarves for the movies. it's subtext, albeit subtext that influenced the next eighty years of fantasy.

but what i don't see much discussion of is the fact that in terry pratchett's discworld, it's intentional. terry pratchett's dwarves are, more or less, jews.

carrot is a human adopted by dwarves, based on human standards. but within dwarf culture, he IS a dwarf. specifically, he has undergone specific rituals and memorised certain passages, making him LEGALLY a dwarf. this is basically how conversion works in judaism. indeed, as in judaism, it's considered rude to even mention that carrot is six feet tall and obviously wasn't born into the culture he has adopted.

the dwarves also have internal rifts - there are a group of 'orthodox' dwarves who consider the dwarves in ankh-morpork (who have adopted other customs and don't follow traditional roles) not to be dwarves at all, and don't recognise carrot as a dwarf for the same reason. they believe that the way to be a dwarf is to live in an all-dwarf community and follow their traditional rules, while other dwarves believe they need to change with the times and integrate (at least somewhat) with larger society. jewish as fuck.

there's also the interaction of dwarves with gender. when cherie comes out as female (which isn't a recognised gender by dwarvish society) she is ostracised for taking on the feminine roles common to other discworld races. however, she could never THINK of cutting off her beard, because she is still a dwarf. i see parallels with women in judaism taking on roles traditionally considered 'masculine' (e.g., as rabbis, wearing tallit and kippot) and the acceptance of queer people into jewish communities. there's lots of great discussion about cherie as a trans character on tumblr, btw.

finally, something that particularly strikes me is the line from carrot in tfe, where he says that the biggest dwarf city on the disc is ankh-morpork. obviously all diaspora communities can relate, but it's really something to know that new york is the city with the most jews in the world (960k to jerusalem's 570k. btw, 3rd is LA!).

i just love that, again, consciously or unconsciously, pratchett incorporated more positive elements of jewish culture into his portrayal of the dwarves.

mamma mia here i go again with another chapter from my leander thesis 🤓 please accept my humble input on mc's curse, the importance of reading between leander's flirting lines and rss's wonderful storytelling details.

ngl when i finally chose not to touch leander's hand first (can you blame me, i'm weak for that man) i was bewildered at how strikingly different the options in this scene play out, and i, strange as it seems, like this one much better.

first of all, it's a parallel (even if it's not intended, the connection is still there) to the opening scene with a deranged traveler: the touch, the sensations, the (foreshadowed) strangling:

leander is definitely affected by the curse — possessed even, i would say, as if he was being told to strangle mc. notice how his actions line up with the traveler's, only in slo-mo, because leander was fighting to take back the control. and when mc calls out for him, he either snaps out of it or gets to the exact point when he takes a hold of the curse. this brings up a question: could mc's curse be sentient? alter the minds, you say? (more under the cut because it got long)

i've seen people speculating that mc's curse might bestow the enlightment but that's not true: mc was told that (and that's why this origin has me by the throat (pun absolutely intended): imagine living with so much guilt, thinking you were doing good, but in fact driving people mad… mmm tasty). it ties perfectly into every origin path where mc was being lied to, deceived and betrayed. however, there's definitely something more to the curse's nature that's yet to be disclosed.

my favourite moment though!! is this nuanced character storytelling!!

the very hand that was inches away from choking mc to death is quickly disguised as caring and soothing. wonder why? to gain mc's trust (non-verbally), to show that leander's in control, he's strong, he's there for mc, he'll take care of them. of course, leander, being a leander, downplays the whole experience of being possessed/affected by the curse, but he's being honest at once. he doesn't lie to mc — and that's also how he's gaining trust, verbally this time.

one more question that begs to be asked: why the hell all of this doesn't happen if mc touches leander first? it seems that the quality of the touch (😭) also plays an important role here:

leander must have felt the power of the curse, but he wasn't possessed by it, he could control it right away — why? because the touch was fleeting? or because it was mc who was touching him, not the other way round?

now hear me out (i might be wrong on this one, because i can't remember any more examples off the top of my head, but i feel like it's definitely a thing. let me know if something comes up!): we should pay closer attention to how leander says the truth (or half-truth), but it could be understood differently at a flirting angle (it's slightly different from this one, where he covers up his misstep). what i think he means here is that he controls the curse, but it sure is a difficult thing to do. "not due to your power" my ass, his need to look strong and heroic and weak at the same time is ridiculous, someone cure this man (ivolunteer.gif)

one more and last thing that's bothering me (it might play into the previous point btw): if you keep touching him, he tells mc that fissures on their hands match his golden pin. why??????? that's such a dumb thing to flirt about, such a weird comparison. what kind of connection is there? it's so out of place, it definitely means something more. leander spill

What do you think aegons fav thing abt amara is and vice versa?

This randomly made me think of how in the future modern fic I'm planning (well not planning, it doesn't have a plot, just vibes), he calls her macushla which stems from mo chuisle which means my heartbeat in Irish. It's sort of like when he said she was made of his rib in TGOWARL:

“It is the closest thing to my heart. When breastplates fail, the ribs are the only thing left. My final protection.” He runs the tip of his nose down the straight line of hers. Her breathing is ragged. “The Dothraki say blood of my blood. That is what you are to me. You are more my blood than my family has ever been.”

In an almost boring answer, that would suggest everything about her is his favourite...he could see her habits or her manner of speech on someone else, but it isn't the same. There's a specific code, a potion recipe mixed up with glitter and sparkles that created her and he's so in love with it, he'd know if even a small detail was out of place. And I do mean Amara and Aegon in any verse for this ask, not just specific to the medieval one.

But some of his extra sweet little favourite things about her are probably the way she belly laughs and sticks her tongue out like a little gremlin (which he also does btw, so it's like calls to like in that sense). He also likes how her eyes are huge but when she's laughing so hard, they turn into crescents because she almost closes them for some reason.

He also likes the way she smells and - this is specific to him and is kinda weird - especially when she hasn't showered for a bit and is kinda sweaty.

Also he'd never admit it but he loves that she doesn't just let him behave as he is, and forces him to be better. He's used to his family being all that's just Aegon being Aegon and rolling their eyes and looking past it, but that kind of hurts him because it's one way to make him feel unimportant. Amara smacking him around the head when he's being a complete twat is proof to him that she loves him and is invested in him (I will not make the troubling connection to his mommy issues at this time, since we know Alicent slapping him around is also a feature of his character...)

As for Amara...I have this headcanon that when people ask her what she sees in him, she very quickly clocks that whatever she says is going to be faced with scepticism. So she just shrugs and smiles and doesn't elaborate because that's less hurtful than listing all the things genuinely and having them still side eye her.

But in parallel to him, her favourite thing about him is his laugh. Absolutely loves that she can hear it through walls sometimes, and even in her head when he's nowhere around. That's how whipped she is, and sometimes it can be annoying because she'll be in a serious situation and all she has to do is picture Aegon giggling and her expression starts to twist.

She's always a little freaked out by how heavy and all-consuming his affections are, but she does still like it (sometimes she feels guilty for doubting it just because she knows he has emotional issues that aren't always rational, hence his love might not be the 'healthy' kind). She also likes his crow's feet, and the sweet little smiley lines around his mouth (everybody say thank you TGC). And she loves how his voice gets all quiet and serious when he's concentrating, and how seriously he'll take something if he decides he wants to. He pays a lot of attention to her even when it seems like he isn't, and his general knowledge of her is enough to startle Amara sometimes (you will never catch her running out of her favourite perfume because it gets topped up whenever it gets close to the bottom - just like he never lets their daughter's glitter shampoo run out)

10. What's your favourite piece of fanart for Kevin / Rolf?

For Kevin I'd say any fanart by guainumbi, like this one. (Fun fact - although they deactivated ages ago I found the artist on insta and I got in touch with them... they were really happy to hear of people still enjoying their old fanart 😊). Another honorable mention is chocowhomps' awesome stuff, their transmasc Kev AU is kinda out there, but you gotta respect that kind of passion and commitment.

For Rolf I'm thinking this this Rolf galore by mariekanker, they always draw him sooo scrunkly shsjdshjd💥. And shape101's portrayals of Rolf's family and all the OCs they made were fun to see.

11. What's your favourite piece of fanart for kevrolf?

It's gotta be this masterpiece. It blows my mind that it's got WAY much more notes than any other kevrolf fanart (getting close to 1k I think! wtf, that's like top eene posts... well, apart from that ship we don't talk about). I'm also fond of this doodle thing, maybe one of the first ones I ever saw, and it's so ancient I used to think it was done by a storyboard artist, but someone confirmed to me it came from Brah-J (kik0thek1ller) on deviantart (they did fanart way back when the show was still on I think)

12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?

In my deeper brainrot moments I've definitely imagined some zombie survival AU, mostly to entertain myself. It's a common AU idea, I know (oh no, now I'm remembering @torra-and-the-toons's unfinished In The Ed comic, oh the memories... *rubs eyes*)

16. Do people irl know you participate in fandom?

No way haha, I'm kinda reserved about how I spend my time, let alone being in a 20+ year old cartoon fandom. But I guess I could have some fun chats with my big sis about it cause she knows me well for the loonie I am 🤣 and she's a tv show addict anyway.

22. Give us a headcanon for Kevin / Rolf

-Kevin is a bit touch-starved (surprise surprise, I keep drawing parallels between him and Eddy lol), it's kinda self-inflicted because of the tough guy persona he puts up, and how high-strung he secretly is while pretending to be "chill". I think Nazz in her sensitivity might realize this eventually and help him be more genuine with himself and others. Rolf and her should give him some surprise hugs 😁 although it would annoy him (this fanart is sweet btw)

-Despite his frustrations, deep down Rolf is very grateful of his surroundings and how tolerant and friendly everyone is with him, and he grows more conscious of this as he grows up. He could have been a lot more unlucky, especially in school, a kid like that would be a prime target for bullying.

(like you, the pete bathtub scene is one of my favorites.) i've just been enamored lately also thinking about what went through pete's head in ep5 when he directed kinn to seek out porsche after knowing kinn hurt him. i think his mentality of no heroes and no villains really comes through because he knows that people are as capable of loving someone as they are hurting someone. because he probably saw it in his father first.

I'm so happy my messy thoughts were enjoyable to you ❤️ But also... you did NOT just create a parallel of the KinnPete scene in ep5 with Porsche in ep13 directing Vegas to seek out Pete while knowing Vegas hurt him. I think I need to lay down. There is a key difference between the scenes, though, which I'm sure is evident: Porsche traded Pete for info, while Pete literally did it out of concern for his colleague and friend (if we can call Porsche that tbh - I've made my interpretation of PorschePete clear multiple times in the past already). He ALSO did it because he respects his boss and wanted to help him, too, btw. I really want fans - VP fans in particular - to NOT forget Pete likes Kinn. I've seen some shit, so it needs to be said. One could call Pete naive for this, but I think it's his empathetic nature that allows him to think and act like that (along with some beautiful disregard for his own well-being 🙃), which brings it back to what you said last; Pete recognizes everyone's capability for love and violence. It's what makes VegasPete possible if you really think about it. And fuck me, yes, his father plays a big role in that, doesn't he? What you said is actually one of my main reasons for why I don't vibe with the "Pete killed his father" headcanon, something I've mentioned before as well: I don't think he hated him enough to do so. I don't think he carries resentment. I think he's figured out his father was a pathetic man who sucked and took his frustrations out on him, but he's not hateful towards him. I love love LOVED your piece for the tea toast & ghosts zine – what was your experience in planning and creating it? was it a challenge to combine both art and writing, and did your art influence your writing or vice versa? I'd love to hear about your thought process in the creation of that really cool piece :D

thank you so much! it's really nice to hear especially since it's my first posted writing!

if im being honest i wanted to write an article from the very beginning, it was the overall idea that was ever changing but eventually i found it. since TTG zine's topic was your favourite thing about l&co, and i had no idea how to incorporate skullyle and it was too much work to come up with technical parts of ghost-lamps (tho i did dive deep into street lights' wiring at one point), i figured i'd stick to my favourite thing of all - worldbuilding and dark stuff!

The Idea™, at first, was to come up with a few cases and illustrate them, but the longer i rotated those the more i didn't like the prospect of making something separate and not rooted into canon. so i skimmed through the books while looking for any mentions of Fittes and Rotwell cases, since back then i already decided to use the Mud Lane Phantom's story. the other two i took are from TSS and THB and they were vague enough to be able to lengthen them to an article entry.

i outlined ideas first, what themes i wanted to convey, what i wanted to put out there for fans and how these cases would've work with each other. from the that point i started drawing the illustrations. quite a backwards process. and it all sounds good on paper but in reality irl struggles really weren't making me any favours and i wasn't meeting deadlines at all, but mods team was patient and understanding with me, they are literally the best!

for Mud Lane i went for slight mockery of pioneers because, well, yeah. there was quite a lot of made up lore that i decided to cast aside (like what if "today" at the crossroad there's a statue of Fittes and Rotwell? a museum? a tourist attraction? a gift shop?). overall im just really proud of illustration that i did, i should draw more of Marissa and Tom at some point.

fun fact and easter egg of sorts: Marissa's pose was supposed to be an homage to first poster of the series and the way Lucy stands in it! i think it got lost along the way as i changed the pose but i think it's still readable enough. i love drawing parallels between the two (:

picking one case set 50 years before the others ment that i'd have to contrast them, draw a parallel and make them work against each other to bring up the best and the worst. The Shoreditch one was, admittedly, more of that coming up with something that wasn't there in the first place. first book only mentioned patrols and i latched onto them. (plus i was drafting it at around the same time as l&co bigbang came out and i was massively inspired by my teammates work which incorporated those patrols but in metro tunnels. great case-fic btw). mainly i went for darker aspects of agent's work there, thinking that to fit in sewers the team would've been of smaller children, and that Kipps (yeah, he's there in illustration) would be as close to them as possible, unlike other inspectors we are used to seeing.

Holland Park Hounds was the one that i was the most excited for because wdym we as a fandom don't talk about possible animal-ghosts?? sure, it could've been Changer(s) but is it really? plus how badass of Holly to be part of it AND it was famous enough that Lucy knew of it as well!

I was there in the Holland Park Cellar case, when our party got blockaded underground by those seven spectral dogs. It was quite a tight spot. I just wouldn’t want you to get hurt.’ (THB)

innitially i wanted to do something about a horse-phantom that was mentioned somewhere but for the life of me i couldn't find it in books, so i'll leave it for my next reread. but this case has so much more ties to the main gang and especially Holly herself. i really wanted to draw a picture of her and her team after the case but no composition really worked so i kept it to park's plan (my urban planer friend said it looked good even). plus giving a plan and thorough haunting information somehow felt very Rotwell to me.

aaand i think that's it! not much to say for back cover only that my friend really disliked my choice of comic sans for one of the adverts. and that i wanted to make it gritty, as if its a wall right around the corner of the Fittes ball court.

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

I had to think about this one! Inflection, I am sad to say, is not one of my favourite children; I'm very proud of it, but I am still holding a grudge about how HARD it was to write. But I think it would be this:

He smiled at Maedhros: a tired smile, but a real one. “Nelyo, I would not — I will not forsake you, as long as it is in my power.”

Is Maglor unconscious and not really a character for most of this fic? Yeah. Is he still my best little guy? Also yeah. And this line is a parallel to Elrond's earlier promise to Elros that he still loves him best – because that is an important aspect of the kidnap fam dynamic as I see it, that however much love grew between them both sets of brothers would always love each other best – except, because Maedhros and Maglor are Weird About Each Other, they phrase it like this instead of just saying "I love you btw".

Also the foreshadowing, of course. Maglor promises not to forsake Maedhros: and he won't, all the way to the bitter end.

5: What part was hardest to write?

ALL OF IT?? Seriously, this one was a struggle. But I think the sections from Elros' POV were definitely harder than those from Maedhros'; I'm used to writing Maedhros, but Elros took some time to get to grips with. And switching between the adult and child voices while keeping the tone of the fic cohesive was also a challenge. I think I managed to pull it off, though, which makes me quite proud!

hello I absolutely adore Imogen as a character and I'd like to talk about her a bit.

CW: Heartstopper spoilers for seasons 1 and 2

okay so Imogen's character's really interesting to me in the way that she sort of parallels Nick (mostly in season 2 but a bit in season 1 also).

in season 1, she's shown to be more popular. she's good friends with Nick and most of the rugby players and I'd assume probably has many friends at Higgs also. I see her depicted as a 'bad' person (more before season 2 was released than after) simply because she's one of Nick's love interests and it's odd to me?? it isn't like she really did anything wrong, excluding lying about being with Nick to Tara, Darcy and Elle. like yes sure she's friends with Harry, his lot, and later on Ben, but she's honestly not that bad. when she tells Tara and Darcy she's an ally (this is one of my favourite bits) she genuinely believes that she's doing the right thing. I'm not saying they have to be grateful or anything, but she doesn't know any better and she really is an ally.

sure, she can be a bit annoying, maybe a little overbearing but keep in mind she is sixteen years old. she has a crush, or at least she feels like she's supposed to, on a guy she's friends with. she asked HIM out, HE said yes. she didn't ambush him or anything, in fact I believe she didn't really want Harry and the rest of the group there when she asked Nick out. it wasn't her fault he felt pressured to say yes.

when Nick tells her he doesn't feel that way about her, she doesn't get angry with him or try and convince him to be. she accepts it, regardless of how much that has to hurt, and moves on. she doesn't even tell their friendship group that it's Nick's fault it didn't work out, she says SHE can do better. and she can. I love Nick, but she fully deserves someone who genuinely loves and is attracted to her as a person.

in season 2, it's shown that she's still good friends with Nick! she's moved on, she doesn't try and pressure or force him or anything. granted, the guy she develops a crush on isn't great, but she doesn't know that. when Nick tries to tell her, she (understandably) gets upset and I do not blame her. she believes Ben, the same way Charlie believed him when they started kissing and stuff, and that's not her fault. Ben is shown to be really good at manipulation.

when she ends up realising Ben sucks and hanging out with the 'Paris Squad' it's shown that she's much happier. I think my favourite part of this, however, is how close she grows with Sahar.

her breaking up with Ben was my FAVOURITE thing she's ever done it was such a good scene. it also shows how much she's grown as a person to be able to recognise she really does deserve better and needs to turn her focus back on herself.

her and Sahar help me circle back to when I said she parallels Nick because the situation is a bit similar. she and Sahar start off as friends. she believed Sahar was straight, and when she said so and Sahar got upset, you can see the confusion and panic on her face because she really does feel guilty for assuming and feeling like she's hurt Sahar, and it's shown that she follows her offscreen (showing she HAS been working on herself, btw). it's after that initial realisation that she starts looking at Sahar a bit differently.

the biggest one though is when she sees Sahar on stage (sort of like Nick with Charlie and his drums in the orchestra) and the bi flag coloured lights flash across her.

I think it just parallels nicely with Nick and Charlie's relationship because of the similarities (l cba to list them) in how their relationship began and how her's and Sahar's MIGHT begin (if we get a season 3 and thats a storyline Alice wants to pick up)

overall I think she and Nick are very similar (she also is very golden retriever ish) and she's such a good character and I'm glad she's in the show. she creates conflict (like the date in season 1 and Nick being anxious about telling her in season 2) but not so much that she can't be redeemed or loved as a person/character.

also!! I love that she did the ally to (potentially) queer person pipeline because that's a very realistic queer experience and it brings me a lot of joy to see that depicted onscreen.

dunno I've rambled enough and this honestly probably doesn't make much sense considering I've not slept but I hope you enjoyed this 🫶

tbh i think oda meant to reach wano and make it all about zoro the same way he reached whole cake and made it all about sanji. I mean like, at the very beginning, back when he made him japanese and then said "there is a country that's one piece's japan, btw, and that's not where zoro's dojo is" - I think that's why his original backstory is so simple, it was supposed to follow the same trend as luffy's and sanji's and turn into this whole grand thing once they reached wano and discovered that he's the only direct descendant of one of the last daimyo and also of the greatest samurai ever lived, those are great bases to start some form of conflict on? tbh? and also directly mirror our finding out that sanji is some form of prince himself, but then instead we got to wano and the only thing we found out on page was that kuina's relatives were from there, and everything about zoro is revealed in a sbs family tree with oda going "I don't think I'll ever say this in the manga at this point so here". Imho what happened was that oda wanted to form some kind of conflict between zoro's family rights/what was expected of him in wano and his belonging in the crew, but then the way he evolved as a character through the story made it so that his only plausible reaction to finding out all that would be some form or another of I don't care and you don't really write an arc on that, do you. zoro's so simple minded and goal oriented that it's impossible for him to have any serious drama that's not about luffy, at this point. I do prefer it like this, though? everyone in the fandom likes to draw comparisons and parallels between zoro and sanji one way or another but my favourite one is the narrative foils one and zoro's lack of a proper backstory and complications to his being part of the crew make for a great black-and-white situation with them. something like sanji's story being all about running from his past and zoro's being all about running towards his future, I love that so I'm glad this is the zoro we got in the end

still, would be cool to know what oda had planned for him exactly

I've got a few underrated/underused characters that I looove, most of them which this side of the fandom tends to dislike I'm afraid vjfnbjgnb. I'm a sucker for Peter and then I love the versions of Edmund (Avery Jr), Aurora, Charity and Igor that I've done vjnfbjgb. They do exist just a bit in my head tho I'm gonna be honest. I'd love to do a seabunny (Igor/Charity) fic someday cause I just love them!!! I also just love writing Aurora but idk if she'll ever end up in a fic of mine, she just doesn't mingle with the characters I usually write.

I don't know what to say about Aurora, there's so much. I love her,, my lovely autistic lady. Her special interest is telescopes even though she knows a tonne about stars as well. She loves cats, she's an only child (if you don't count the cat her parents essentially treat like a second child), she's Muslim, she's half Egyptian on her dad's side and half Sierra Leonean on her mum's side!! She makes pros and cons lists before doing anything, she's blunt, she loves deeply!!! She's besties with Charity and Wilhelm (though the latter is just,, it's complicated and one-sided and oh that man 110% haunts her). I enjoy starrynight (Aurora/Severus) a surprising amount but this is 100% a pansexual woman who'd be open to anyone. There's just something about these two and their parallel play kind of dates and their understanding of each other fjnvjfnbjg

Peter!!! I'm still not over the thought of suburban dad Peter with a wife who finds the rest of the marauders endearing but incredibly annoying. Peter who drives a sky blue Prius when he takes his son to soccer practice and his daughter to ballet like??? I love it. He's half Danish on his mum's side and half British on his dad's side. One of his favourite things to do when meeting new people is trying to get them to pronounce Danish words. He slept with a stuffed animal for many years. He started losing his hair early and it's one of his biggest insecurities. Plays Santa for the kids around Christmas because Remus lost his Santa privileges after he was seen snogging Sirius with the suit on. The kind of guy who'll wear something until you physically can't anymore. Needs vocal appreciation!!! Oh Peter they could never make me hate you

Not just on his own but also with like seabunny!!! Like where on the scale of shitty person was he in the beginning of the war vs after he spent more time with Charity who was eager to share all her muggle knowledge etc. They died within a year of each other!!! Also!!! With how isolated Durmstrang is I have this headcanon that Igor's afraid of birds. When I say it like that it makes no sense but!! In the wizarding world owls are the main way to communicate so if you can't use an owl for whatever reason it can be quite isolating and thus it all works with how he's managed to isolate the school vfjnbjgnbjgn can you tell I think about this in like a super deep way? He's the youngest in the family and the only boy with three sisters. He was a mama's boy and he used to sneak down creaky stairs to crawl into her bed. He's incredibly nonchalant when it comes to most things. I think he spent his last year at Hogwarts on an exchange program since it's alluded that he's got some sort of memory at Hogwarts and I doubt it's from his time as headmaster.

anyways, my fav unit is leo/need and my fav character is lil sbibo. im also a big mmj fan w/ minori being my 2nd favorite thenhonami in 3rd, haruka in 4th, saki in 5th, kohane in-- miya girls 1-a is my favorite trio of all time cuz theyre all silly and so cute. errr ig i dont have any main ships other than minoharu bc i mainly love platonic friendships so im not a polyneed shipper unfortunately. theres also th fact that i hc shiho to be aroace cuz i have to project (hehe) onto my favorites all the damn time and ichika too actually- theres more basis to the ichika aroace headcanon cuz she talks to minori abt the fact that she has trouble singing love songs.

if i have to explain why i love l/n so much (i dont have to but i was given the right to infodump so :P) its because being together was and will always stay as their primary motivation. like, before they wanted to go pro or make their music move other's hearts, the reason they made the band was because they wanted to reunite and be friends with each other again. this is contrasted by the other units who have the same/similar goals and team up to achieve it (not to discredit their own relationships btw im just saying, also n25 is a different story with relatively unclear motivations esp at the start soo). anyways, despite being my least favorite in the group, i firmly believe that ichika absolutely deserves the right to be the leader mainly because shes the one with the deepest understanding of her bandmates and the determination to act upon that understanding. in the main story, saki already had this sort of disconnect from being hospitalized on top of generally being weak-willed which made it easier for her to give up on honami despite how much she didnt want to and honami and shiho are both too frozen in their character arcs to make a move without a push. and ichika is the one that initially pushes everyone. by the end of the 3rd rotation of focus events, all 4 have proven that they can push themselves just fine but ichika is still the one with the most intimate understanding of everyone. honami is actually not that far behind but is still learning to take the initiative, shiho only deeply understands honami (not that she cant do the same for the other 2 she and honami just *get* each other yknow), and saki, whooo boy saki im abt to talk abt her lol. all but saki's most recent event is about introspection and making realizations about herself which is very good for her but doesnt do much to fix that disconnect problem i mentioned earlier. enter: parallel harmonies (spoiler alert ig). after quite a bit of back and forth debate and even arguing between the 2, ichika is the one that ends up accepting and using saki's thoughts and feelings to let saki be in the lead in writing the songs so ultimately, ichika makes the bigger compromise out of the 2. this makes a lot of sense because saki is the one who is more certain about her identity and wants compared to ichika. shes not willing to sacrifice her values and what ideals mean the most to her which is pretty admirable. but the fact that she has more trouble collaborating with ichika than ichika has with her shows that not much has been done in fixing that disconnect saki had with her friends at the beginning of the game. this is not to say that saki doesnt genuinely care about l/n, it's just that she lacks the proper understanding to actually accomodate their needs and wants compared to the rest of them.

Are you named after anyone? I've heard this story a buncha times so I'm pretty sure my mom got my birth name from a singer. She heard it on tv and liked it a lot, back then it wasn't a very common name in my country. My names as of now are 50/50, Tom didn't come from anyone but Teddie was 100% something I picked up from Teddie p4, hahah.

When was the last time you cried? Last Sunday when I rewatched ep 11 of Bucchigiri. especially during the part where Zabu got the absolute shit beaten out of him. Finn came home right after that and doesn't understand that one of the big points of media is to reach you emotionally, so he thought it was weird that I was crying.

Do you have kids? Nah, but I'd like to some day, if fate allows it.

Do you use sarcasm a lot? Not nearly as much as I used to, because most of my friends are autistic and don't get it most of the time, so I just end up upsetting them whenever I do use it. Being sincere is much more fun anyways.

What sports do you play? None, but I would love to swim or ice skate (or, hell, do some skiing). Neither are really possible for me atm, unfortunately (do you have any idea how expensive skiing is btw. it's crazy). When I was a kid I did gymnastics and streetdance, I also played tennis briefly as a teen, but had to quit due to a lack of people in my age group playing at that club.

What’s the first thing you notice about people? I usually take note of how someone dresses and does their hair. Ever notice how dull most people's clothes are? I like seeing styles that stand out.

What’s your eye colour? Brown, it's not a particularly dark shade, but I wouldn't call it hazel (my dad has hazel eyes though).

Scary movies or happy endings? This ones a little... vague? But I guess if I had to choose... I wouldn't. I don't care about genre or what type of emotional impact it has, as long as it's coherent and entertaining in its own right. (That doesn't mean I don't care about quality btw. I literally just. watch anything and judge it for what it is.)

Any special talents? I'm a boss at packing in groceries quickly and efficiently. Not a talent that everyone possesses, I've learned (sorry Minke <3).

Where were you born? Netherlands babeyyy ✌ North-Holland to be a bit more precise. I lived next to a dyke (not that kind) so I got the real under-sea-level experience. I still live around the area but not in my hometown anymore.

What are your hobbies? Drawing, (writing?), translation and the nuances that come with it, watching movies, tv shows, animes, cartoons, playing video games, reading books, comics and manga. (and then talking about cinematography, parallels, themes, symbolism and the likes) I also collect soda cans (+ the occasional glass bottle), candy packaging, and anime figurines + other merch.

Do you have any pets? My little baby Jody (dog) who I've had since I was 7 years old! She's about to have her sweet 16 on the 23rd (that's in 2 weeks!) she's getting blind and deaf as hell but she's still lively and sweet as ever <3 And my sweet Tiger of course, who's of undetermined age (around 8/9 the vet said) and currently living with my good friend Minke and their 2 other cats (he does not like them) and dog (he is ok with her). He's not with me rn because my mom's bf is allergic, unfortunately.

How tall are you? 1 meter 59. that single centimeter haunts me. I would've also preferred an additional 10 as well.

Favourite subject in school? Art history used to my favourite in high school, and when I was in film school for a brief period I loved film history. I just love anything pertaining to the arts and it's history that involves analysing and comparing it to other time periods, really.

Dream job? I wanna be someone's househusband and make a buncha weird art on the side. Not kidding btw. But if I had to choose a more conventional dream job... it had to be something in the creative or design industry, otherwise I'll probably die of unhappiness.

Do you make your bed? Rarely, tbh. I used to do it every day, but I nap so much recently that there’s not really a point. Plus, I have curtains in front of my bed, so you don’t really see it anyways.

What’s your job? Don’t have one currently, a little too busy with uni and my mental health. Before that I worked in a covid testing place. And I volunteer as an EMT at the Red Cross. That’s the closest answer I can give

If you could go back to school, would you? Primary school: yes. Secondary school: some phases yes, overall no (I mostly miss my German teacher). And uni I’m currently doing, so yeah.

Can you parallel park? I’m not the best, but generally yes. Also, my car is quite small, so that makes it easier I suppose

Do you think aliens are real? I don’t really think about it tbh, but purely statistically, they have to be in some way, shape or form, right?

Can you drive a manual car? Yes. And a manual motorbike as well 😌

Guilty pleasure? True crime shows or podcasts. And rewatching old Let’s Plays, but I haven’t done that in a while

Tattoos? Nope, too indecisive and scared of regretting it

Favourite colour? Really depends. Generally, I like blues and purples, sometimes a nice sunflower yellow, but with clothes for example you’ll rarely see me in something that’s not either black, grey, or navy.

Favourite type of music? Probably quicker to list what music I don’t like, but to keep it short, I’d say it’s mostly indie at the moment

Do you like puzzles? Yeah, but like everything I usually do them in bursts, so I’ll spend every evening working on it for a week and then abandon it for months.

Favourite childhood sport? I loved ballet and did gymnastics for years. And I went horse riding religiously for most of my childhood, I absolutely loved it. But unfortunately, I’m pretty much deathly allergic to horses and will almost instantly get breathing problems.

Do you talk to yourself? Yes, constantly and in three languages. Especially in the car

Tea or coffee? Tea, all the way. Herbal and black tea or some chai blend, most of the time with milk. I absolutely detest coffee; it makes me nauseous.

First thing you wanted to be when growing up? Either a veterinarian or a horse-riding instructor, I can’t remember which one came first

What movies do you adore? My favourite as a child was Mamma Mia and it’s still a comfort film for me. I loved Call Me By Your Name for the cinematography, the score and the general vibes. For similar reasons I also adored Arrival, I’ve watched that a good few times by now too. Also, the storyline is genius. For a feel-good film I really like Ocean’s 8, something about it is just really satisfying to me and the fact that there’s so many amazing women in that film is even better. And my go-to film when I need a cry is and probably always will be The Notebook.
