i have a lot of em tbh. katherine, vanessa, angel, nebulous, ect ect. tbh when i put that tag i was hoping some nebbie simps would come in skfjdskfjdk but its okie i havent posted much abt her anyhow. and there's not a lot i can say w/out spoiling something 😔 (but if u have questions abt her please please please ask them 👀)

ive talked abt some of my ocs in depth under my "oc stuff" tag as well as my "two" and "the war organization" tag if you're interested. oc stuff doesnt get as much traction as my other stuff so it makes sense not many have seen them ^^;

anyways. i thought that maybe id use this ask as a way ta talk abt 2 of em a bit since i finished their ref sheets awhile ago!

(✿◕_◕✿) im not entirely satisfied w/their armour but its a start :3. these guys r kinda gimicky tbh. besties who obsess over romance and romantic shows n junk. schuy is a......bit of a sterotypical character in the way that she acts towards someone specific. tbh im still tryna figure out amie! she's been a bit of a "idk" character for me beyond her relationship w/schuy. they both enable each other's bad behavior lmao. im noticing that a lot of my characters form trios w/one another and the third oc that would b part of this trio is citrine :3

citrine and ametrine are siblings and citrine's the 19 yr old older sister who's just like. done w/these goofy ahh teens. they're all guards in training (although, citrine should have graduated training and become a guard already) and come tagether once a week ta watch cheesy romcoms tagether :33 also they're someof the few guards in training that acutally live in Rexica Manor 👀 due 2 their parents or sister holding important positions.

beyond that, they're just your run of the mill teens goin ta highschool, obsessing over romantic interests (mostly schuy), and preparing for their step inta adult life :)

schuy is all sunshine and rainbows, citrine is an angry and brooding almost 20 year old, and amie is a sarcastic mean son of a bitch. shuy is also one of my characters who has a voice claim!! i imagine her ta have a bit of a deeper harley quinn type accent, maybe not as exaggerated tho.

as of now they're kinda background-y (minus citrine) i like them a lot tho so im tryna find ways ta incorporate them inta the story better. also guess what phase i was in when i named schuyler. guess.

Thirteen Era Rewatch: Arachnids in the UK

I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on.

The title of this ep annoys me I can’t lie

Find it funny that it’s been ~15 trips now and 13 is still like ‘I’m not used to the systems.’ I’m sure some ppl hate it but idk I feel like it’s not a big deal and is maybe just her still tryna hide the fact that they’re right, she doesn’t have much control over the TARDIS

Yaz’s dad and sister’s excitement and surprise at Yaz bringing home friends is funny but also obviously tells us something about Yaz. She doesn’t have many friends. And since we know about the problems Yaz has had with bullying and her mental health, it’s probably even more of a big deal that she has some friends which explains some of their excitement.

I think I’ve seen ppl complain about how by this point in the series 13 should have herself figured but I like it tbh. For some ppl it takes longer to know who they are and considering the kind of Doctor 13 is, awkward, hides who she is, that sort of stuff, it doesn’t surprise me that it’s taken her a bit longer than previous incarnations to really know herself.

Ryan and Thirteen are one of my fave duos in this era. They weren’t even doing/saying anything particularly interesting when they went off to that persons flat but I still just love it so much idek what it is. Just an interesting dynamic

Najia being excited at the idea of Yaz dating Ryan but concerned at the idea of her dating 13. Makes sense. Most mums would probs rather their teenage daughter date another teenager and not a woman who’s seemingly in her mid 30s and has the Vibe the Doctor has

Also Yaz’s reaction to the questions are interesting imo. With 13, Yaz’s reaction is like she’s embarrassed her mum asked and with Ryan it’s like ew I’d never date him. And obviously 13 seems confused and like Yaz, Ryan seems grossed out by it.

Ryan and Graham have some good moments in this ep with the letter. I like that this episode is more finally more Yaz focused though

Robertson really doesn’t do much for me tbh. I assume he is supposed to be like a Trump parody but I most don’t find him funny maybe spare for the kitchen scene, he’s just annoying. Also this moment doesn’t work for me at all. I get he’s supposed dramatic but nah

The Stormzy scene is fun, I like it a lot

I think the plan to just.. leave the spiders in that room to die is a bit rubbish. I get that killing them brutally like Robertson did isn’t ideal but I do think 13 should’ve recognised that killing them in a better way would have been better than just leaving them to starve. And I also thing the ending of the episode feels pretty abrupt like one minute Robertson is shooting a spider and the next we’re at Graham’s house. It felt like there should be more to it.

I wish we actually got to see or hear more about Yaz telling her mum about who the Doctor is. I don’t think it’s a big deal that we don’t but I would be interested in hearing how Yaz would explain her odd gang to her parents

Graham giving the Doctor the smallest compliment whereas Ryan and Yaz give her bigger ones is interesting to me, kinda like the two teenagers are more impressed by 13 than the grown adult is. Or kinda like Graham is currently more into this bc of how it will help him get over Grace rather than bc he loves the Doctor and the travelling. Though that obviously chances as the show goes on bc in S12 it’s Ryan that wants to leave, not Graham.

I love that 13 is like, ‘Be sure’ bc in the past the Doctor has been like, ‘Do you wanna come?’ And then the companion has said yes and that been it, but 13 is really explaining to them how this could change them and I think that’s Interesting. Like she doesn’t want Bill 2.0 and she doesn’t want them to get into something they don’t fully understand.

In terms of the fam I feel like this is a pretty good episode for all of them? There’s more focus on Yaz which I like. We find out that it’s rare for her to have friends over, her family annoy her, she seemingly isn’t open with her Mum going by the reaction to her questions.

Ryan has the letter from his dad and we kind of see him warm to Graham a bit more in the sense they work together and Ryan expresses dislike that his dad used the term ‘proper family’.

And then Graham has some time alone where we see him dealing with Grace’s death probably properly for the first time which were pretty good moments imo.

The Doctor spends most of this episode kinda going back and forth between being her happy self and being slightly more serious and we only see her go off properly when Robertson shoots the spider but even that is toned down from what we’ve seen in previous eps where away from the fam. I also love that while she hides her full self from the fam, we know from the first scene that she doesn’t actually want to be alone which is interesting imo.

Art Fight(and not) Things !! Welcome to the grey canvas show. Premature posting for over half of them and late posting for the rest, but reasons for that below the cut. As well as some context for each.

1st is a ref I made for my sona, which has yet to be put up. Been delayed due to working on other things and still not having a name. 2nd is a NB visibility Floofty I kinda just.... cobbled together? Not sure if it’s all that great, *and* it’s late, but... well. Hrgrhrhgrhgrhgr 3rd is the start of the AF things with @snakjomo‘s Journalist, whom I’ve become very fond of in my time consuming Bugsnax content. Their design might be subject to change, but I’ll love em either way <3 4th is Quillda Tiddlything from @calliopepreforms who is ADORABLE, I love her cute lil stubby legs, hair, and oversized glasses. She’s like prime pick up and cuddle material, absolutely amazing. 5th and 6th are both @cheesesteakphil​‘s Orlifa Featherbean (sure do draw lots of journalists, huh?) and the first I got a bit too ambitious with while I hope they don’t mind the slightly shippy content of the second >.> If not then We Are Shaking Hands On Appreciating Floofy

So! Additional context... well, frankly, the Art Fight work hasn’t exactly been going swimmingly. I’ve been trying new things and have Sort Of had ideas, but it’s been just as much sitting still as moving forward, frankly. And I’d felt bad that it seemed like I had nothing to show, while getting frustrated with the inability to properly finish anything. Iunno, I’ve gotten impatient and also in some weird way showing stuff might help my brain move forward. I hope it doesn’t come off as... lazy or anything like that :l 1st image has already been pretty explained. I drew it shortly after the previous reference for a commission because I just wanted to do something new. It’s a little samey in expression and not as neat in terms of composition, while lacking in details like the headphones and lil cassette player, but I figured I could pair them together to shore up on any missing bits. 2nd also pretty self-explanatory, and shows a trend I have with expressions for SURE. Like, left corner of the mouth up type beat. I’m tryna break outta habits with this stuff, but it is Not Easy. That bow tie kicked my ass too. And I’m not sure I’m entirely satisfied with what I came up with, ultimately, but I didn’t want to wait too long either. Even though NB Visiblity Day’s already passed us up regardless. Floofty’s existence means a lot to me and I had to do *something*, y’know? 3rd has a bit of extra detail in that I meant for it to be a sequence. Like Buddy and Filbo sitting at the campfire and all that with a side of Gay Realization and such. The good stuff. Unfortunately, I’d been struggling a lot with composition and have No Idea have to do backgrounds. To the point where I couldn’t come up with anything additional. What’s there is ok, but the missed potential is horribly frustrating. Just hope it’s alright enough. Lighting’s kinda scuffed too, I know. ...I should stop looking so closely. 4th is yet another thing that doesn’t need too much explanation beyond “haha tiny journalist :)” tbh. It’s really not the best little sketch, but I also felt bad not including it? Have To Express The Love And If I Don’t I Die. 5th and 6th are a whole load because I originally started with the first bit from suddenly being struck with the idea of Orlifa in that comfy denim jacket from their ref in snow or smthn. While having a lil detail of when you do that like... exhale from the side of your mouth in the winter thing in mind. Got pretty experimental with the coloring and shading and things like that, which has been a learning experience for sure, even if I’m not 100% of the result. Backgrounds are not and will likely continue to not be my strong suit, but I’m hoping to get better about it. Probably not the best idea to be trying to go all out during a time limited event, however I uh... just care a little too much ahahhh... Had even been trying to take up painting to do a piece of Egg’s(Snakjomo’s) Neme and Cath. Or one of them, at least. SO much brain hurty. Anyway, with that second sketch I just thought it might be neat to do more than one thing for them. I like drawing interactions I know they like Floofty, so.. one thing led to another and there’s that. *Had* to do something with Orlifa for that sweet sweet Floofty Enjoyer and NB Solidarity. Then uh... that’s that. There’s other works, but they’re not really Bugsnax related, so I opted to omit them. While a lot of this stuff is sketchy af and ultimately unfinished, I hope they’re worth at least a little to everyone who got something. Might not be all there is, but my pace is gonna be horribly slow. So (maybe) stay tuned for any of that.

eventually, she’d had enough; after the abuse she’d suffered at his hands, she knew she needed to leave

another method of escape her mother’s grip was by delving into her studies. she was always top of her class and worked so dang hard ( but like also could afford the best tutors and education lmfao) so sis basically could get accepted wherever she wanted to go for post secondary

eventually she was able to convince her parents to let her study abroad for a year in nyc going to stay w her cousin #jessegrove where she was ! finally ! able to escape the clutches of her awful mother and her pushover disconnected father. she told her mother she was going to use the year as research for a career in modeling or fashion or smth bc she knew it’d cater to her moms interests but rly she just needed to get tf out of melbourne and live a normal life

she’s lived in nyc ever since ( since she was 18 - she’s 23 now ) and wanted nothing to do with the expensive brand names she’d grown to despise. so she found herself a condo ( def spent millions on it bc god forbid bianca watkins’ daughter living in anything under 5mil) but didn’t want it to be anything crazy bc she was so over that lifestyle so its def luxurious but very basic and minimal compared to what she grew up with

ok so yesterday i had the crazzzziest fuckin experienec lmao here we go this story is LONG AF

background: so i just graduated and my current job is gonna be over in august and so i applied for this other part time job just for some security when my current job is up. fyi i got a wildlife biology degree and it sounded like this job would be about like, bear outreach, like telling people how to not get mauled and bear spray demonstrations and stuff, so thats awesome, right up my alley. and the guy for this one i applied to was like okay, why dont you come in and work a couple hours and we’ll see if you’re a good fit. I was like that sounds great 

and he gives me an address and a room number, I’m thinking ok this must be an office building but I pull up and its a fuckin RETIREMENT HOME, im like what is going on here on this day, but I call him and he’s like yeah let me buzz you in! so i get to his room in this fuckin old peoples home and his room is like COVERED in papers and books and shit and we talked for like 30 minutes im thinking this is the interview but then he’s like what do you know about computers? and i start talkin myself up you know like you do when you’re tryna get a job, so im making myself sound pretty slick and hes old af and doesnt know anything about computers and is just generally impressed and was like, ok first thing i need you to do is put my computer back together. and im like woooah, slow your roll i meant like i can make an excel spreadsheet and some super basic coding i cant build a damn thing but no, what he meant was just.... plug his monitor and keyboard back in. so. off to a great start.

anyeway we get his computer up and running and he told me the reason he unplugged it in the first place is he got a virus and when it turns back on the popup shit is still there and its like.... not super obvious but seems like its from watchin sketchy porn but ANYWAY i get that shit out of the way and hes like ok let me show you how my files are organized,im like alright cant wait. well turns out his “organization” is just “email every single document to myself and put them into one of 8 trillion folders in my email. and already it looks like a disaster. but then hes like ok we’re gonna email so-and-so about an invoice. I’m like great gonna get some real work done. NOPE! bitch you thought! so for like 3 hours he had me writing emails for him. just him dictating what to write and me typing it while simultaneously fixing all the weird grammar. and ok admittedly. he told me the reason i had to write them is because he’s dyslexic and has vision trouble, which is totally understandable and i get why you want an asisstant for that but like... im not an assistant, i applied for the job bc i thought it would be biology related, i didnt pay my university a whole arm and a leg so that i could write emails. not that theres anything wrong with being a secretary or assistant or anything but thats like not what my job experience is about and thats not what my degree is about. anyway total respect to all dyslexic people and also secretaries. moving on 

so i was emailing for him for 3 HOURS. NOT exaggerating... i got there at 10 am and we were writing emails til like 1:30 a least... and sometime in here he tells me i need to work on figuring out how to print a pdf while he gets lunch. im like uhhhh ok so he leaves for like half an hour and i printed the thing in 2 seconds so im just texting my gf about this whole ass disaster. but then he came back with jimmy johns and he had got me a sandwich so like. that was nice, only highlight of my day tbh.

anyway so after like 45 more minutes of emailing and telling him how to google stuff THEN he says”we’re going on a drive.” no explanation. im like AWESOME tell my family i love them bc im definitely getting murdered. so we get out to the parking lot and he hops in this OLD ASS sketchylooking van and the inside smells hella strongly like gas and im internally freaking out. he drives me all the way across town (!!!!!!!!!!) to this like storage unit/junkyard sketchy looking place and im sayin my damn prayers, we pull up at this trailer and he has me unload like, 1 box from his van and put it in the trailer. that was it. and we drive all the way back to his retirement home. im like bitch was that really worth it????? could we have possibly not done that?

so we get back to his room/office/paperwork tornado, and im walking him through how to download a copy of a powerpoint from his own website, and im trying to tell him im 99% sure he already has a copy of it on his computer but whatever. and like midsentence he starts asking me where i stand politically, verbatim quote: “so are you a republican... liberal communist... facist...” and im like i can tell this isnt gonna end well so i try to give a non-answer because ive had ENOUGH of this dude and he keeps like pressing me and asking me how i feel about the president and im like alright old man you wanna know so bad i think trump is an ignorant child and hes a terrible president and i think anyone who voted for him is really deluding themselves if they think hes actually doing anything good in that office. and he interrupts me to tell me how much he LOVES trump and how “if anyone needs to be executed its hillary and bill clinton” and im just like woah nelly how can i leave this place ASAP and he keeps ranting and spouting thinly veiled racist nonsense for atleast 20 minutes, not only did i get to hear all his thoughts on “the blacks” but also “those indians or whatever” meaning native americans bc we’re pretty close to a reservation and my gf is native and from that reservation and hes saying racist shit and im just biting my tongue SO damn hard bc if i say anything about having a gf hes gonna go on a whole homophobic rant too i can FEEEEEL it 

so by now its like 3pm ive been here 5 hours and im terrible at confrontation so i have no idea how to tell this fucker that i absolutely dont want the job and i have an appointment in 1 hour and ive mentioned it at least 4 times like he knows i need to leave but he keeps having me start new projects and the whole time hes telling me how we’ve “gotten so much work done today” and its like the most productive hes been in weeks and im like i couldve done all of this in about an hour and a half but WHATEVER and he keeps being like “so when you come in next week we’re gonna start on this other thing” or like telling me stuff he wants me to go home and read before the next time i work and im still internally like there will be no next time but idk how to tell this bitch that and i finally make my escape around 3:40, barely make it to my appointment on time, immediately start drafting an email to tell him theres no way in hell im gonna work for him.

SO like on Thursday, a bunch of my friends came over and we had a horror movie marathon. It was p lit and I was hella surprised I didn’t get nightmares afterward.. I’m not getting nightmares or anything, my brain is just being wild as fuck and giving me awesome dreams about ghost hunters, ghosts, demons, and etc. 

The actual dream (so much shit went down I’m just going to give an outline) 

So I don’t think I’m actually in this dream, I’m just watching everything go down tbh. 

Basically, I’m in like this weird Harry Potter world or something except Harry isn’t there.. Dumbledore and Bellatrix are tho so like that’s what makes me think this is a Harry Potter kind of world.. ANOTHER thing that makes it not so Harry Potter is that there isn’t any magic!!

But there is a main character that was never named and they have some sort of issues. (Let’s call this main character.... Finn so that I have an easier time with pronouns). So Finn has a bunch of issues, he’s a total trouble kind of kid who’s really edgy. He’s at this school that I’m going to call Hogwarts even though it isn’t Hogwarts, and like Harry Potter, he’s gotten in good with Dumbledore. 

So idk much about what the point of this school is.. All I know is that it’s technologically current yet still vvv Hogwarts like, there’s a band, and they’re being trained to be ghost fighters (kind of similar to Amazonian training from Wonder Woman) 

SO THERE’S THIS VENGEFUL DEMON/GHOST THING!!!  and idk who/what/when/where/why about the ghost but IT’S THERE!! AND IT’S TRYNA GO AFTER FINN!! 

and a bunch of shit starts going down and like the band is tryna get to cover when the door to the BUNKER gets shut leaving the director of the band and one of the trombone players outside !! (Bellatrix is there tryna figure out wtf is going on and idek why)

AND THERE’S THIS BOOK AND IT HAS DETAILED DOCUMENTATION OF violent events that’ve happened, are happening, and will happen.. SO THE TROMBONE PLAYER LOOKS AT THE BOOK AND SEES THAT THE DIRECTOR (who’s name is Percy jackson??) IS GOING TO GET STABBED!! 

AND SO HE TURNS AROUND VERY HESTIANTLY, HEAVY BREATHING AND ALL OF THAT TO LOOK AT HIS DIRECTOR!! AND THE GHOST APPEARS, SETTING IT’S GNARLY FINGERS ON THE DIRECTOR’S SHOULDER ONE BY ONE....

spider-man: homecoming | a study

eyyyy it’s currently one of those lazy summer days and instead of dwelling on the fact that school is just around the corner and i wasted half of summer being sad and oh my god i should stop and get to the point, i decided to share my thoughts and shout into the void about this movie. here it goes! (also: spoiler alert! i’ve put the rest under the cut, just in case.)

reasons why spider-man: homecoming (2017) is *arguably* the best spider-man movie and one of the best marvel movies:

1. cast and characters

((let’s start with the people behind the scenes and on the screen.))

story time/ me trying to set the scene but actually going wayyy off topic: for me, one of the best parts of the movie experience, especially when it comes to a comic book universe, is to get to know the cast beforehand. after seeing captain america: civil war (2016) and tom holland’s portrayal of peter parker in may 2016, i was immediately excited for the new spider-man movie coming out the next summer. now, some of you may be thinking that was because tom holland is cute (trust me; most of the people i know believe that fact), and while i can’t deny that is a factor, it was initially because i finally got to see the portrayal of peter parker i’ve always wanted to see: a smart, geeky high school teenager. so, i went online and started researching the names of the main cast members, then spent the rest of the summer fangirling over them and there friendship. okay though, time to get back on track

4 out of 5 of the main cast members aren’t white (see section 2.1- diversity). laura harrier (who plays liz allen) and zendaya (who plays michelle/mj) are african-american. tony revolori (who plays flash) is guatemalan. jacob batalon (who plays ned) is filipino.

some of the cast visited children’s hospitals during their spare time on the press tour ( x  x  x )

both laura and zendaya are feminists ( x | x ), address social issues ( x  x  x | x  x  x ) and don’t tolerate trump’s bs ( x | x ). they both attended the women’s march on january 21, 2016 ( x | x ). there are seriously a million reasons why i love these girls, but we must move on

the five have become such close friends and that’s just so so nice to see. they’ve gone to brunch ( x ) , to the aquarium ( x ) and basically hang out a lot ( x  x  x  x  x  x  x ). they also often refer to themselves as “the breakfast club” ( x  x  x ). basically, they’re goals af.

each actor/actress is essentially their character.  also, i have a feeling that everyone can relate to at least one of the characters (see section 2.3- high school reality). they’re such a great mix of people from different backgrounds and personalities, which really shows on screen.

2. diversity, comic book accuracy and high school reality

((wow i just realized that i have a lot to say, but i’ll try to keep it short!))

diversity: two thirds of the decathlon team (this includes the main five) are people of colour and, if i’m not mistaken, the majority are also girls. actually, amongst the students of midtown high, i noticed a bunch of people of different ethnicities and cultures: hispanic, east asian, south asian, black, muslim and i’m sure there were more. liz, peter’s love interest (who i’m happy to report is not only defined by that), is a strong, smart, beautiful, biracial girl, and so is michelle/mj. while we’re on the topic of mj: i was over the moon when this version of mj is biracial, and also does not conform the traditional popular party girl. this mj is smart, sarcastic, independent and brings up important topics. two of my favourite lines were hers; the first is when the team is about to board the bus, and she says something along the lines of “can we leave now so i have time to protest???” and honestly when i heard this i was extremely happy and the second is when they’re at the washington monument and she’s like “nah, i don’t want to celebrate something made by slaves”. it’s so important for people of all ages to see characters that come from different places and to be aware of issues in our society, and to see that on the big screen. the cast even points this out: x 

comic book accuracy: like laura and jacob say in this interview  ( x ), the characters don’t necessarily look like their comic book counterparts; it’s their personalities that make them who they are. to be honest, i’m not entirely familiar with the older comic books, but when i was young, my brother and i would watch the cartoons on saturday morning. that’s why i started loving spider-man and reading comics in the first place. this is the version of the characters who i believe they were meant to be based on what i know from the spider-man universe. that might also be because of how the characters were an accurate depiction of teenage life (see section 2.3- high school reality, below).

high school reality: my absolute favourite part of this movie is how much of a modern day high school feel it had to it. part of this is definitely because of the diversity; let’s be real, not every student is a straight, cis, white male. the characters are dynamic and each have distinct and specific personalities that are indicative of teens today. there’s liz, who is popular, goes to parties and is captain of the decathlon team; ned, who is loyal, friendly and a total dork; flash, a bully, who is intitled and pretentious; there’s mj, the sarcastic loner who stands up for what she believes in; and, of course, there’s peter, the cute, awkward, heroic geek. all of these characters are trying to find their place and figuring out who they are. seeing all the different people at midtown high allowed me  to relate to them and their situation. yes, this is a superhero movie, but take away the whole superhero thing, and you have a typical 80s high school flick, minus the stereotypes and clichés.

3. overall story and final thoughts

spider-man: homecoming is not like the marvel movies that came before; it’s young, fresh and fun. 15 year old peter parker is just tryna find his place because he wants to save the world while he’s still in high school. honestly, that scene with peter under the rubble f***ed me up and there were endless tears streaming down my face because it was the perfect example of how he’s just a kid taking on the responsibility of being a superhero (with great power comes great responsibility am i right??). i also just want to point out how much of a mature choice peter made to turn down tony’s offer. during civil war and homecoming, peter is focused on helping as many people as he can, no matter how small their problem, and is also focused on proving he’s not a kid and becoming an avenger. however, when peter saves the day in the end and tony finally accepts him into the avengers, peter decides that it’s more important for him to protect new York, at least for now (the infinity war trailer leak f***ed me up too tbh, idk if it’s up anymore so i won’t spoil anything but still)
