For the structure I experimented with a aluminium pipe structure. It is important for me to create a sleek, elegant structure which also supports the parts of the collection in a way that appears to be lightweight. Cutting the metal was surprisingly easy with the right saw. I also designed a simple poster to hang in the frame. For me the pipe connectors create an additional layer of detail what I also liked.

speaking of kon and family i am generally of the opinion that he never really puts a strict label on any of it because its more difficult than that, and something that is so core to his character is that he never had parents, but i will say its funny* how most people who say this are also the people who, when they see fans or dc call clark kons brother/cousin, cry about how labels make it less meaningful, theyre just family! and then turn around and call ma his grandma. so labels are only bad when clark is called something other than kons father right?
i think theres definitely merit to him never specifying who is what to him in this sense but i also think its kind of weird to refuse to acknowledge that ma and pa are his adoptive parents. like canonically. sure i still dont think its that simple and kon probably wouldnt just start calling ma his mom more than the word ma already implies, but its really obvious how much people HATE to acknowledge this or even consider it maybe even more than they hate it when clark is called kons brother/cousin. yknow like people got SO mad about kon referring to ma as his mom in that (bad) comic i saw people say its Worse than him being in a relationship with mgann..... like okay.... can u elaborate on that.. why is it worse exactly.... oh right it completely negates the possibility of clark being his father. right!

✨ REDSON, SIX-EARED MACAQUE, & SUN WUKONG WITH AN ADHD S/O ✨
Tumblr media
» three-thirty (AJR) « 0:45 ─〇───── 4:07
╔⏤⏤⏤⏤╝🍑╚⏤⏤⏤⏤╗ AUTHOR'S NOTE ╚⏤⏤⏤⏤╗🍑╔⏤⏤⏤╝ ➤ This is reposted from my old account, @nothyenlowz :3 ➤ These are headcanons. ➤ This is romantic. ➤ Reader is afab & uses she/her! ➤ I don't think I went as in depth as I could have been I still hope it's accurate and you enjoy it! ➤ TRIGGER WARNINGS include profanity, a little bit of angst, and minor violence. ➤ Word count: 1,361
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
❝ You wanna skip it if it's wordy, but fit the whole song in three-thirty .❞
╔⏤⏤⏤⏤╝╚⏤⏤⏤⏤╗ REDSON 🔥 ╚⏤⏤⏤⏤╗╔⏤⏤⏤⏤╝
➤ before he finds out you have ADHD, i imagine he's confused by your behavior at best and frustrated by it at worst.
➤ your daydreaming and procrastination can be annoying for him, someone who's always about work, work, work. when you're talking to him about your fixations, he gets irritated because either he 1.) has no idea what you're talking about or 2.) thinks you're making fun of him since he often rambles about his inventions in a similar manner.
➤ he just doesn't understand why you're doing those things and neither do you. it causes a lot of struggles for you both initially, leading to shit communication and hurt feelings.
➤ when you're finally diagnosed, redson listens very closely. now your quirks are starting to make sense, but you still don't have as much information as he'd like. he researches ADHD in AFAB people rather meticulously on his own time (sometimes interrupted by his own anger at the lacking information for females), and by the end of it, he has a much improved understanding.
➤ and boy does he feel shitty. hindsight is 20/20 or something.
➤ the idea that he blew up at you for things out of your control makes him feel ashamed, especially when some of those things (like info-dumping) are signs of affection. so you don't see him for a while, partially due to some unhealthy self-punishment on his end, and also because he's trying to come up with a solution—that being a way to make it up to you, of course, not "fix" you.
➤ when redson stops avoiding you, he takes you out on a date with all your favorite activities and thoroughly apologizes to you. he promises to adjust his behavior to accommodate and support you.
➤ (which might have made you cry, considering you've always been treated like you're the problem.)
➤ true to his word, redson changes a lot. he leaves little notes for you as reminders, sets alarms for you, helps you finish or do tasks you don't have the energy for, etc. he even starts prompting info-dumping, reading up on the source material so he can ask questions.
➤ he also does his very best to educate himself on masking and burnout so he can a.) keep you from going there or b.) recognize the signs when you are there and help you. i like to imagine he made a sensory room for you that has all your favorite things and you can just go there to chill and unwind.
➤ he's also super protective over you. if people make fun of your stims, say you talk a lot, undermine your sensory issues, etc., he will DESTROY them. no way in hell is he letting you be disrespected like that. verbal smackdown, here we come.
➤ ultimately, it's a learning process. but it's one he's more than willing to thoroughly explore for you.
╔⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤╝╚⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤╗ SIX-EARED MACAQUE 🔮 ╚⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤╗╔⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤╝
➤ HONESTLY i headcanon macaque as autistic, so i feel like he had a feeling that you were ADHD before you did.
➤ probably made jokes like "it's the ADHD lol" for certain behaviors until you decided to do some research on it and were like "🧍‍♂️ yeah so—"
➤ not surprised at all when you're diagnosed, obviously. he uses the opportunity to show you coping mechanisms he's learned (though some have to be tweaked for your needs since autism isn't ADHD), and even begins to unmask more around you (which was inevitable anyway tbh, but it's easier now that he doesn't feel so different from you).
➤ since macaque thrives under routine/structure, he often handles reminders. he also keeps you on track, verbally and physically, if you have things to do. ALSO is super on you about eating, since he likes cooking.
➤ macaque's experienced dozens of burnouts in his long life, so he knows how awful they are. he can sniff out a burnout a mile away so i'd like to think that you don't experience many while with him because he's really good at pacing the both of you/being aware of your emotional and mental state. the dojo's pretty chill like 90% of the time due to his own sensory issues so it's a good place to unwind and relax.
➤ you guys have picked up so many phrases from each other. he'll be working on a script for a shadow play while you're cleaning and he'll just hear you laugh and go, "wow, didn't see that one comin'." it definitely flusters him that he's included in your echolalia.
➤ macaque rambles to you about theatrical pieces from various cultures. if you introduce him to new ones, tell him something he doesn't know about a piece he's already familiar with, etc. he'll kiss you istg. anyway this is to say the feeling is mutual and he probably ends up getting into some of the media/hobbies you tell him about!
➤ you guys mutually bully each other lmao. you'll be trying to do some work, get to talking to him about whatever comes to you, and then suddenly it's three hours later. you're like "FUCK" and he just laughs at you (you get him back, of course, and it's all in good fun).
➤ he barely thinks beating anyone who talks shit about you is an overreaction, but if you don't like it then you'll just have a clone stick around in your shadow or something to scare the shit out of anyone who decides to open their mouth to you.
➤ in summary, macaque is very helpful and teaches you coping skills when it comes to sensory issues + overload.
╔⏤⏤⏤⏤╝❀╚⏤⏤⏤⏤╗ SUN WUKONG 🍑 ╚⏤⏤⏤⏤╗❀╔⏤⏤⏤⏤╝
➤ first off, i headcanon Wukong as ADHD, too.
➤ with that said, i feel like Wukong just... assumed you knew you were ADHD and rolled with it.
➤ like you guys constantly quoted/repeated each other/shows and stimmed at/with each other. you'd get in loops. you'd adapt each other's phrases/stims. neurotypicals don't do that.
➤ it's genuinely amusing thinking about you two just repeating the same things at each other. it's such a serotonin boost and it makes you both laugh. same for when you stim together, especially hand-flapping and jumping up and down.
➤ you're both trash at remembering stuff but fortunately you seem to have an awful lot of capacity for the other—meaning you remind wukong he has a session with MK today because he forgot, and he reminds you that you agreed to make noodles with pigsy today because you forgot.
➤ i don't think remembering to eat or drink is a big problem for you, since wukong is a big comfort eater and shares his snacks with you so you kinda just... roll with it lol.
➤ wukong has a bunch of homemade stim tools. once he sees that you're interested, he makes some more for you. even after your diagnosis, you don't try "professionally" made stim toys—you just don't need them when wukong's work so well.
➤ you guys spend hours talking about your interests, ping-ponging off each other. like: "OH, did you know x?" "NO, but did you hear about x?" x1000.
➤ you guys also bully each other. "Hey Great Sage you forgot do the dishes again, you crusty bitch"; "says the dumbass who started folding laundry and then did a fashion show with the monkeys".
➤ like macaque, wukong's had his fair share of burnouts. unfortunately, he's not super good at preventing them or even realizing he's in them until it's been a few months, but you guys take care of each other if the other is struggling. you're also very aware of the other's limits so if one of you is pushing it, you can help each other step back.
➤ wukong learned a great deal of patience and mercy from his journey, so people being unkind to him doesn't really bother him. plus, he barely leaves his mountain as is—but if one of those times, someone doesn't to be a dick while you're stimming or something? best case scenario, he has some very choice words—worst case scenario, bro's taking it upon himself to remind the public why you should be more considerate of who you're snarking to.
➤ basically, nothing changes after you get diagnosed lol. you and wukong are very happy ADHD gremlins who are celebrating your neurodivergency :)
❝ I thought I had the ADHD, but that's a real thing (and I'm just lazy) .❞

Writing Notes: Three Act Structure
Tumblr media
Three act structure - divides a story into three distinct sections, each anchored around one or more plot points that drive the overall action.
Over the course of the three acts, a complete story structure unfolds.
The main character passes through the stations of a character arc, the main plot builds toward the realization of the protagonist’s goal, and by the end, the action is resolved and key loose ends are tied up.
History
Novelists, playwrights, and screenwriters have many options for organizing the structure of their novels, plays, movies, and television episodes.
Traditionally, these narratives are broken into acts, which are subdivisions of the overall story.
Some stories are told in a single act, like short stories and one-act plays.
Sometimes a storyline demands many acts. Example:
Willam Shakespeare was loyal to the five-act structure when writing his plays.
Yet of all the ways to subdivide a story, writers have shown great loyalty to the three act structure, which is typical of most forms of modern storytelling.
The notion of three-act storytelling traces back to Aristotle, who theorized on story beats in Poetics.
He argued that stories are a chain of cause-and-effect actions, with each action inspiring subsequent actions until a story reaches its end.
Elements of the Three Act Structure
At their most basic, the 3 acts of a book or script represent a beginning, a middle, and an end.
In most three-act stories, about 50 percent of the actual storytelling occurs in the second act, with 25 percent of the story falling in the first act and 25 percent falling in the final act.
ACT ONE
The first act typically starts with exposition—one or more scenes that establish the world of the story.
If the story contains supernatural elements, the rules of the supernatural world would be established here.
This act should also establish the ordinary world of the story’s main character.
Before the act is over, however, an inciting incident should occur—one that pulls the protagonist out of their normal world and into the main action of the story.
Concludes with some sort of turning point that launches the action into act two.
ACT TWO
A story’s middle act consists of a rising action that leads to a midpoint, then devolves into a crisis. Example:
A story is about a detective who is tracking the killer of her murdered partner.
The Act One inciting incident would be her partner’s murder, and the turning point would be her decision to track the killer.
Thus the rising action of Act Two would involve the sleuthing she must do to track down the murderer.
Act two will raise the stakes of the protagonist’s journey, perhaps revealing the danger to which she’s exposing herself. By the story’s midpoint, the detective would be fully immersed in her journey.
Typically ends with another turning point that makes it seem as if the protagonist will fail. This is sometimes called the “dark night of the soul.”
Perhaps our detective has gotten too close to the killer and has been wounded by one of his henchmen, allowing him to escape.
ACT THREE
The third act begins with what’s known as a pre-climax.
This consists of events leading up to a climactic confrontation in which the hero faces a point of no return: they must either prevail or perish.
In our detective story, perhaps our hero has regained the trail of the killer and has traced him to a safehouse.
This launches us into the actual climax, where the detective apprehends her partner’s killer—either taking him into custody or killing him.
Finally the story de-escalates in a denouement, where the events of the climax wind back down into normal life.
Of course the hero detective’s life will never be the same again.
Note that almost all novels, movies, and TV episodes have subplots (also known as B-stories) that occur concurrently with the main plot. These subplots, often crucial to character development, may also follow a standard three act structure, but the way they play out varies greatly from story to story.
How to Use the Three Act Structure
The best way to incorporate three act structure into your own writing is to map out the key plot elements that should populate each act.
Act one: exposition, inciting action, turning point into act two
Act two: rising action, midpoint, turning point into act three
Act three: pre-climax, climax, denouement
Some novelists and screenwriters consider these story points when they brainstorm; others brainstorm in a far more open-ended way and only later do they consider specific plot points.
If you’re the type of writer who prefers open-ended brainstorming, perhaps via the snowflake method, don’t disrupt your process by thinking about act breaks and a specific plot structure.
If you prefer to be hyper-organized in your writing process, it may make sense to keep the three act story structure in mind from the very beginning.
It can be a useful planning tool to think of the story in terms of exposition, inciting action, rising action, and beyond.
Just remember when you are writing a novel or a screenplay that good stories don’t start with templates for act breaks; they start with memorable characters, vivid worldbuilding, and a protagonist whose journey is worth following.
Once you have those in place, a three act structure will likely naturally reveal itself.

Michael couldn't stop shaking.
It wasn't from the cold, not anymore. The snow had all melted away, giving way to a jungle verdant with the bright, almost-too unnatural green of the hottest summer day. The wind was warm, tugging on the hair that peeked out from the now-unnecessary beanie on his head. He was sweating beneath his parka, and every muscle felt like it was seizing and trembling out of his control. Every part of him was quaking, even his mind, recoiling in fear and dismay from the impossibilities that surrounded him. Somehow, it felt like he was screaming, even though he was completely silent.
"You have to do this, Michael." Gertrude's face was so serious, more than he'd ever seen before. Compared to him, she was perfectly still and calm despite the chaos around them. "You are the only one who can. Only you can stop this."
"I…" Michael turned back to the strange and horrific sight looming in the valley beneath them. There were so many gaping doorways, so many stairs and arches, like an Escher painting had mutated and spiraled out of control. It was terrifyingly vast and mind-bending to try to track, shifting before his eyes, but it was so…eerily beautiful. It drew his eyes and his mind, inescapable and endlessly fascinating. He could stare at it, terrified, for hours and hours, and never be able to look away.
And Gertrude was asking him to go inside.
"If you don't stop this, the entire world will be swallowed by what you see before you," Gertrude insisted, pressing a large folded paper into his hands. Lines and colors danced across it, shifting before Michael's eyes. "Do what you must. Only you can."
"Are you sure?" Michael whispered weakly. It was all too much, what Gertrude was asking him to do. He wanted to get away and hide from the horrors, but there was no escape. Gertrude's eyes stared into his, so sharp in her wrinkled face, so unlike how she normally looked at him. So deadly sincere. It really was only him who could do it.
Michael nodded. Gertrude nodded back, and let go of his hands, stepping back. Michael turned and faced the awful monstrosity before him, tears slipping down his cheeks as he began his descent towards the structure. Every step grew more difficult than the last, as his legs threatened to collapse under him. His heart was pounding so hard it hurt the inside of his ribs, a headache was blooming across his mind, but he continued forward, driven by his duty and the expectation placed on him. Doors and twisted stairs loomed before him, and Gertrude's ceaseless gaze was on his back. The screaming in his mind reached a peak as he approached a plain yellow door.
Until he stopped.
"Michael?" he heard Gertrude call to him. "What is it? Why have you stopped?"
"It's…" Michael swallowed his confusion. "It's a cat."
Tumblr media
Michael crouched down, ignoring Gertrude's shouted questions, bending to examine the kitty. They were laying on their side in front of the door, fast asleep and seemingly uncaring about the chaos around them. He reached out and stroked along its back, and the cat made a soft "mrrph" noise, stretching and arching back into his hand. Compared to the colorful impossibility around them, their black and white fur was soft beneath his hand, calming the screaming in his mind. Michael scooped them up, and they pressed into his embrace, purring as they twisted to lick the tears off his face with their raspy tongue.
"Michael! You have to stop it!" Gertrude shouted distantly, but he barely heard her. How could he go through the door with the cat in his arms? How could he let such a sweet thing go? He couldn't.
A sharp crack had him stumbling backwards, staring up at the structure in alarm. There were cracks running through the door frames and stairways, the precarious angles suddenly seeming much more precarious. Michael stumbled back, then turned and ran back to Gertrude, the cat still safely held in his arms. He reached her, breathing heavily, and they all watched as the fantastically strange structure crumpled and collapsed into itself, it's terrible chaos turning into nothing but rubble.
"I would have been in there," Michael realized, dull shock beginning to seep through him. There was no relief now that the horror was gone, just the heavy certainty that he'd nearly died. And Gertrude had been the one to send him to his near-death.
"Hmm," Gertrude hummed to herself, staring at the ruin. "Fascinating." She didn't elaborate, or say anything at all to him. She just turned and began making her way back to the distant shore.
"God," Michael whispered to himself, hugging the kitty close. Whatever had just happened, he had the cat to thank, because otherwise he would have gone inside that door, and would be dead, or worse. And as glad as he was to be alive, there were so many questions now crowding his mind, and a cold sinking realization that Gertrude wasn't who he thought she was.

given that you sent this in around 2 months ago, i assume you've finished the ice cream by now. either way, mint chocolate chip is great!

lets go we got a beta sheet!!! (or two i guess given that a couple strands seem to get temporarily discontinued in between). those are rare enough that they are definitely exciting, and this is a pretty big one. other than the beta sheet, this protein doesn't have much going for it. the confidence is low, and there is a lot of space between small sections of secondary structure, giving the impression that the ai tried really hard to make folding happen, but didn't fully understand the assignment (ie tertiary structue).

What percentage does a personal injury lawyer take?
When you're facing the aftermath of an accident—dealing with injuries, mounting medical bills, and lost wages—it’s only natural to feel overwhelmed. One of the biggest concerns for many people is whether they can afford legal help during such a challenging time. Fortunately, at McGinn Law Firm, we make it easy by offering services on a contingency fee basis, ensuring that you can get the representation you need without upfront costs. Don't wait—call our personal injury lawyer in Council Bluffs today for your free initial consultation and take the first step toward the justice you deserve. Visit McGinn Law Firm and let us fight for you!
Let’s break down exactly what a contingency fee is, how much you can expect a lawyer to take, and how this structure benefits you.
What Is a Contingency Fee?
A contingency fee means you won’t have to pay any legal fees upfront. Instead of charging you by the hour or requiring a large retainer, the lawyer only gets paid if they win your case or secure a settlement on your behalf. In other words, their payment is “contingent” on a successful outcome. If they don’t win or get a settlement for you, you don’t owe them anything in legal fees.
This fee structure allows people to seek compensation without worrying about paying for a lawyer out of pocket, which can be a huge relief when you're already dealing with unexpected medical expenses, vehicle damage, and other costs related to your accident.
How Much Do Personal Injury Lawyers Typically Take?
The percentage a personal injury lawyer takes from your settlement or court award can vary, but most lawyers work within a standard range. Typically, the lawyer’s fee is around 33% or one-third of the total settlement amount. For example, if you settle your case for $90,000, your lawyer would typically take $30,000, leaving you with $60,000.
However, if your case doesn’t settle and has to go to trial, the percentage might increase. Lawyers often charge 40% if the case goes to court, as trial cases generally require much more time, preparation, and resources. The exact percentage can vary based on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and even the region where the case is being handled.
It’s always a good idea to have a clear discussion with your lawyer upfront about their fees, so there are no surprises later on.
What Happens if the Case Goes to Trial?
As mentioned, if your case goes to trial, the lawyer’s percentage may increase. This increase is because trials involve a lot more work. Preparing for trial means gathering more evidence, hiring expert witnesses, conducting depositions, and spending days in court. All of this takes time and resources.
In addition, a trial involves more risk for both you and your lawyer. There’s always a chance that a jury might not award damages, or they might award less than expected. Because of this added complexity and risk, lawyers often charge a higher percentage if the case goes to court. However, it’s important to note that most personal injury cases settle before ever reaching the courtroom.
What Other Costs Should You Be Aware Of?
While the contingency fee covers the lawyer’s time and legal work, there may be other costs associated with your case. These costs are typically separate from the contingency fee and might include:
Filing fees – The cost of filing legal documents with the court.
Expert witness fees – If your case requires the testimony of medical professionals, accident reconstructionists, or other experts, their fees may be added to the case.
Costs of obtaining records – Fees for medical records, police reports, or other documents related to the case.
Some law firms, like McGinn Law Firm, may cover these costs upfront and only deduct them from your settlement if you win. It’s important to discuss these details with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how they handle case-related expenses.
Why the Contingency Fee Structure Works for You
The contingency fee structure offers several advantages for you as the client. First, it removes any financial barriers to hiring a lawyer. You won’t need to pay upfront fees or worry about hourly billing, so there’s no financial risk to you. This is especially helpful when you’re already dealing with unexpected expenses and lost income.
Secondly, the lawyer has a direct incentive to win your case or secure the largest settlement possible. Since their payment depends on a successful outcome, you can trust that your lawyer will be highly motivated to fight for the best possible result. This creates a shared goal—you and your lawyer both want to maximize the compensation you receive.
What to Look for When Hiring a Personal Injury Lawyer
When hiring a personal injury lawyer, you want to make sure you’re not only comfortable with the fee structure but also confident in their ability to handle your case. Here are a few things to consider:
Experience: Look for a lawyer or law firm with experience in handling personal injury cases similar to yours. For example, McGinn Law Firm has years of experience representing clients in personal injury cases, from car accidents to slip-and-fall incidents.
Track record: A lawyer’s history of settlements and verdicts is a good indicator of their success. Ask about previous cases they’ve handled and the outcomes.
Communication: You want a lawyer who is responsive and keeps you updated on your case. Make sure you feel comfortable asking questions and that they take the time to explain things in a way that makes sense to you.
How McGinn Law Firm Can Help
At McGinn Law Firm, we understand how stressful and overwhelming a personal injury case can be. That’s why we work on a contingency fee basis, so you don’t have to worry about paying upfront legal fees. Our experienced lawyers are committed to fighting for your rights and ensuring you receive the compensation you deserve. Whether your case settles or goes to trial, you can trust that we’ll be with you every step of the way.
Conclusion
When hiring a personal injury lawyer, understanding the contingency fee structure can give you peace of mind. Most personal injury lawyers, including those at McGinn Law Firm, will take around 33% of the settlement if your case settles and closer to 40% if it goes to trial. This allows you to get the legal representation you need without worrying about upfront costs.
If you’re considering legal action after an accident, contact McGinn Law Firm for a free consultation. We’ll review your case, explain the process, and help you understand what percentage we would take if we win. You can focus on recovering, while we focus on getting you the compensation you deserve.
