chris smiled down at you, watching as you took in your surroundings. birds sang, and the gentle breeze cooled the two of you for just a moment before the heat settled in again.

dogs barked, some passing by with the gentle sounds of their nails scratching the pavement beneath.

it was the perfect summer day, just you and chris walking throughout your local park. it was like a getaway from all your life problems and drama.

a place to sneak away from all the rumors and harsh words that came from social media. right now, it was just you and chris enjoying each other's company.

he wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you closer to him in a side hug as he kissed your head affectionately, "how are you feelin'?"

your cheeks flushed a light pink color at his action, resting your head on his shoulder as you continued to walk.

"better," was your reply before you got distracted by a woodpecker.

chris nodded slowly, eyes following your gaze to the dark bird that had red feathers atop of its head.

"imagine being one of those things," chris broke the calming silence, and you turned to look up at him with a raised eyebrow.

he smiled at the sight of your smirk, deciding to continue on with his curiosity, "like, just imagine pecking at wood all day for the rest of your life. and you could also fly? holy fuck, that would be amazing?"

you giggled at him, intertwining your hands and swinging them back and forth slightly. chris loved seeing you like this, so happy and mind far away from the bad thoughts.

"you're by far the weirdest person i've met. and i love it, i love you so much." you muttered, it felt like it was just the two of you in your own world.

chris' face flushed pink as he stared at you, his smile wider than ever, "i love you more, y/n. you're by far the prettiest person i've ever met."

you nudged the boy with your elbow, eyes going back in front of you and taking in the scenery and unrealness of it all.

after a few minutes of walking, chris grabbed your hand and dragged you to sit at a bench. he wrapped his arm around your shoulder and pulled you close.

he loved hugs, especially if they were from you. he loved being affectionate with you, he didn't have to hide his love.

"your hair smells good." he whispered, kissing the top of your head again before he pulled away to look into your e/c eyes.

you smiled at the boy, he was so sweet and caring. he was what any girl would want in a guy.

"why're you starin' at me like that?" he giggled nervously, turning his head in the opposite direction.

"why wouldn't i be staring at you like that? you're the most handsome thing ever," you complimented, moving to lay your head against his chest.

he looked back at you, his cheeks a light pink color. his hand threaded through your hair, eyes fixated on your face.

"my pretty girl," he whispered, leaning down to place a kiss on your lips.

you were like the breeze in the trees. the songs the birds would sing, only for the crickets and frogs to take over once Mother Moon rose to bathe him in her light.

these are the little things. the little itty bitty things that keep him alive.

and at night when the guns roared and his life was on a wire, he would think of these things. when his own blood smeared over his skin, tainting his body and his mind with things you'd probably leave him for.

when the head of another human was under his gun, you were what he thought of. how this action was for you- to get home to you.

if he didn't shoot this man, then how did he know this man wouldn't turn on him and keep him from fulfilling his promise to you?

"just.. come home. please?" you had whispered the night he left. simon only nodded, slipping on his mask and sighing.

"always, love. forever and always. promise."

and he'd be damned if he broke that fucking promise.

even as bullet left his gun with a shuddering snap and the man fell dead under him, he kept reminding himself this was for you. all of this pain and suffering he held on his shoulders was for you.

the woman he intended to marry.

Tired of this road trip

“Noo!” I groaned as I lay in bed not wanting to get up. “We have to be there by 10, so let's go.” Tom pulled me off the bed by the leg.

“Please just a few more minutes.” I try gripping our bed.

“What is going on here?” Bill walked into the room. Tom and I froze in place and Bill had a puzzled face, “I'm not going to assume but we have to leave now. We can't be late!”

Bill left the room and Tom picked me up. “I'm tired.” I whined.

“We can sleep in the bus but we have to get ready first.”

After getting ready

I got on the bus and sloped down on the seat. This was going to be a long road trip. Tom came over looking fine as ever. “Hey, hot stuff,” I mumbled.

He winked at me and sat right next to me.

“You ready to see the fans?”

“Always.” I said.

The engine of the bus started and we were on our way to San Francisco. I leaned on Tom's shoulder and he wrapped his arms around me. I wrap mine tight around his torso. I took in his perfume it was light enough to not make my head hurt. I look up to peek at his face and his eyes were closed. I smile at his relaxed face and leaned against him with my head on his chest. I drifted off to my happy place.

3rd point of view

Georg crept up in the back and saw both of you guys snuggled up.

“Guys, check this out.” He called out to the other members.

Gustav laughed as soon as he saw you guys. Bill took out his phone and started taking selfies. They all started taking pictures and videos up close to your faces. They even did a little blog about you guys. There were some funny comments here and there and it was the perfect time to take advantage since you both are never close around them. They quietly left and went to go laugh about in the front.

When you made it to the destination - Your point of view

I woke up when I felt the bus not move on the bumpy ground. I was laid down completely on the seat but Tom was gone. I got over to the front to see where everyone had gone. Bill and Georg we're standing at the doorway outside the bus. Gustav stared at me and then at Tom. Tom's face was somewhat pink and he didn't look at me.

“Enjoyed your nap?” Bill asked me.

“What's going on.” I ignored Bill's question.

“What do you mean? We love our love birds being so cute!” Georg handed me his phone.

I blinked a few times and it was me and Tom in the video. Georg took his phone back before I could do anything.

“Delete that right now.” I stare at them wanting to rip their heads off.

“Never. Let's make a run for it.” Gustav said and they all started running away.

I look over to Tom, “You ready?”

“Hell yeah.”

And we went after them as they were laughing their asses off.

"Whatever." Jack laughs. "shouldn't we be letting Quinn pick, since it is his big day?" You questioned. "Nah I really don't care. I'm just really hungry. Just pick some where fast or I'm leaving to go somewhere myself." Quinn laughs.

After dinner with the Hughes and your parents, you and Jack get away for a bit. Sitting outside in the backyard, and it being really late. Jack told you to head out and that he would be out soon after. You just laid on the blanket that laid in the grass looking up at the stars, counting how many really did shine.

"Hi." Jack says softly laying down next to you. He holds out a bag of cookies. Just plain sugar cookies remembering you aren't to big on most sweets and cookies. "Thank you." You kiss his forehead. "Mhm" He hums.

"Why'd why wanna come out here so late?" You question him. "Just wanted to spend some time with you because you know.." Jack laughs remembering Luke saying from earlier that day.

Jack lays his head on your stomach has you play with his hair. "This is nice." Jack says softly sounding a bit tired. "We should head in J, you sound tired."

Jack stands up to take your hand. You both head inside and cuddle until he falls asleep. Leaving you with your thoughts on how you got the best boyfriend.

“I CANT BELIEVE I FORGOT! I SWEAR I WROTE IT ON MY PHONE!!” Koi panicked, running his hand through his fluffy hair.

“well I mean, shouldn’t you know this kind of stuff? Since ur Mugs boyfri-“

“SHSHSH!!” He put a firm grip on bendys shoulders.

“Keep your voice down, dude!”

“Ok, ok! Jeez! js let go of me, please.”

Koi Immediately retracted his hands away. his face looked strained, as his body shook ever so slightly. He had no idea what to get his partner for his birthday. Which was today.

clearly, he wasn’t great at hiding it either. Because as soon as bendy got a look at him, he knew immediately.

“Look, if you’re so worried on what to get him. Why not ask cup?”

Bendy suggested

“HE’LL JUST LAUGH AT ME! OR GET MAD AT ME!!” Sweat was pouring down his face, making him look like he just got out of a pool.

“Okay, okay!! Fine!! just, chill. I’ll ask him for ya-“ He hopped of the cot, walking out of the tent. As koi watched in horror, he lays on his sleeping bag, getting lost in his thoughts.

He wanted to just..scream and cry. But his eyes were dry, and his voice was weak. He had no idea how to even feel right now.

“you okay, Angie?” Leo asked, slowly leaning on his baby brother.

..riiiight, his brothers came home early to “comfort him”

“No, my mouth hurts like shit.”

He said, slumping even further in his sweater.

Emily Walker liked camping. Well, she liked the idea of camping anyway. The actual act was always rather tedious and dirty and tiring. But things don’t have to be good to be good, right? It was about the family bonding time that came from completely isolating yourselves from the world and roughing it for a few days at a time.

If only the rest of the family shared her opinion….

If only….

“August stole my sleeping bag!”

“It has my name on it!”

“Yeah, because you just wrote it there!”

“Kids, enough!”

Emily sighed and rubbed her temples as her family argued against the lovely backdrop of the woods. It was a scenic picture, if you didn’t mind angry people in your scenery. The first day was always the hardest. After a few hours cooped up in the car together listening to Cordell’s only Pandora station and the kids bickering over who was encroaching on the other’s side of the seat, they were free to really have at each other. By the time they got camp set up and a fire going, they’ll be calmed down and muttering apologies and stuffing their faces with PB&Js. Tomorrow they’d wake up grouchy because sleeping in sleeping bags was never as fun as advertised but once they had breakfast they’d be in better spirits. Then August would remember he was a ametuer birdwatcher and want to get out in the woods and Stella would remember when she had a serious rock collection and find a stream that had nice rocks and Cordell would find peace in doing monotonous tasks like looking for firewood and they’d all be having a good time. 

Right now, she just needed to find the tent. She knew it was packed in the bed of the truck...somewhere. It was crossed off the list. She saw it when they were loading up. Granted, she didn’t see it go in the truck since she had to go solve a packing emergency with Stella but Cordell said he’d handle it so it should be here. It had to be.

“Cordi? Did you pack everything that was by the truck?”

“Yes, Em, I packed everything. Even the picnic blanket we never use.” 

“Are you positive?”

“Yes, Emily.” She heard a very deep and exasperated sigh. “What are we missing?”

She chewed on her bottom lip. “...The tent.”

There was a long beat of silence. While she couldn’t see her husband, she could imagine the face journey he was going through trying to keep his reaction in check. Anger to confusion to frustration to annoyance to “Let me take a look; you handle the kids.”

Emily plastered a smile on her face and hopped down to see what they were arguing over now. After a few minutes of Mommy Moderator, she heard the worrying sound of soft cursing.

“Are you sure you put it with the rest of the stuff?”

“Yeah; it was the first thing I checked off the list. I put it right in the front of the pile so we wouldn’t forget it.”

Cordell shook his head. “No, that’s where you put the picnic blanket. I remember because I had to put it in first so I wouldn’t trip over it packing up everything else.”

Her brow furrowed and she heard Stella and August quiet down, probably noticing there was a bigger problem. “No, that was the tent. It was all rolled up by the sleeping bags in the corner of the attic, where we always put it.”

“Yeah, we put the picnic blanket there too because it fits right on top.”

“No, I-” Emily froze and suddenly remembered counting out five rolls from what was in the attic. There had been one left over. 

Dammit.

“...You packed the picnic blanket instead of the tent.” 

“....Yeah….”

Cordell let out a long suffering sigh, scrubbing a hand over his face. He was holding back. “I...am going to look for firewood.” He was going to kick a tree or two while he was at it.

She smiled at the kids, trying to elevate the mood. “How about snacks? I bet we could all use some snacks. I packed Oreos!” 

The campsite was quiet for a while. After a few minutes, Emily decided she should go check on her husband and make sure he hadn’t done anything that would get them banned from the campgrounds. August and Stella would be alright on their own for the time it would take her to find him and get him back. As long as he didn’t manage to hurt himself in the five minutes he was gone (it wouldn’t be the first time but that was a story for another day).

Emily found him sitting against the trunk of a big tree with his hat pulled over his face. She sighed and sat next to him. 

"Hey."

"Hey."

"You wanna go home?"

He sighed and put his hat down. "I didn't really wanna come out here in the first place."

"Hey-"

"I know, I know. 'Things don't have to be good to be good'." He smiled a little smile. "That makes absolutely no sense."

"I know." She leaned against him, resting her head against his shoulder. "I think we can rent a tent from the people who run this place. Or buy something at the supply shop."

He sighed and reached for her hand. "I guess we can try that. Better than packing up and going home after 10 whole minutes of quality bonding time."

"Come on then; we should get back before Stella and August find something else to argue over."

They made their way back to the campsite hand in hand. It was peaceful, all things considered. Birds in the trees, squirrels running all over…. This was another thing she liked about camping. This was the kind of quiet you couldn't get in the city. It was nice.

They got back to the site to find...more peace. Which was weird for day 1 of camping with the kids. And that’s when they saw It.

"-tie that part down there aaannnddd DONE!" Stella proudly stepped back from her creation.

It wasn’t pretty. It was far from perfect. It would need proper support from something besides a few sticks and hair ties. It probably wouldn’t fit all of them. It might fall over in the next small breeze. But, somehow, Stella put together a makeshift shelter with that damn picnic blanket.

Cordell chuckled softly and let go of Emily’s hand before going over and giving the structure a proper inspection. August was sitting off to the side with Emily’s camera and she’d bet good money he documented the whole creative process in cockeyed and slightly blurry glory. Stella happily told her father the whole story of putting it together.

Emily stayed where she was, watching her family with a small smile.

She really loved these camping trips.

How did you decide on the daemons you did for the Bennet sisters?

Oh that’s something that takes some answering, thank you :D. I tend to pick and choose between religious and heraldic symbolism, cultural associations, puns, but I’ve got a bunch of loose ground rules that narrow things down based on age, social standing, gender, etc — it depends on the character. Starting with broad strokes:

Aristocrats and their families really pride themselves on big-cat daemons, which neatly ties up:  Darcy and his cheetah daemon; Lord Asriel and Stelmaria; and the long and storied history of British monarchs representing themselves /the state with lion symbolism.

Following from that, the more important you (think) you are, the larger and more baroque your daemon tends to be. In Mr Bennet’s case, his bear daemon is so large as to be practically disabling, since the accomodations necessarily required to manage his lifestyle are barely within budget (story of Mr Bennet’s life), but he’s also someone who has social power and doesn’t use it.

The enlightenment arguments about concepts of the self as an individual distinct from the society it springs from, and the interest in the scientific community in exploration in classification that were happening at about this time should clash in the public imagination with more old-fashioned heraldic concepts of what it means to have your inner self on display. And, while I had a lot of issues with The Secret Commonwealth, I did think it was interesting that Pullman suggested people mostly knew what animal their daemon looked like, and that’s something take into account at a time when your average person would not be expected to be widely informed on the fauna outside their own home region. So some people are very traditional and conformist (the Fitzwilliams), some people try to game the system on their or their children’s behalf (Jane, to an extent), some would prefer to see the whole thing stripped of artifice or otherwise romanticise the idea of more instinctive and naturalistic (Darcy very much, Elizabeth slightly less so), some don’t think too much about it and  just go with the flow  (Charlotte).

Witches and magicians (almost) always have bird daemons, per HDM and also because of the consistent association of birds with magic in JS&MN, particularly ravens. So Jonathan Strange has a blue jay daemon, because blue jays are corvids but they don’t look it, and Strange is a very good magician but tends not to look it on on introduction.On the other end of the size scale, Mrs Bennet’s dalmatian pelican daemon is springs from catholic imagery in which pelicans are symbolic of self-sacrificing motherhood, based on a medieval belief that pelicans pecked their chests bloody to feed their chicks with their own blood. Since this is absolutely not true of pelican behaviour, and since pelicans in life (enormous, smelly, loud) are much less romantic and attractive than that imagery suggests , I figure it works both with what Mrs Bennet would like to believe about herself and how she actually is.

Which necessarily leads to the Bennet girls all having bird daemons, conveniently narrowing the field of possibilities.

For Jane, whose daemon is a hyacinth macaw, I wanted a tension between outward conformity to the role of perfect daughter and gentlewoman, and someone who has hidden depths. Bright bird daemons are very much in vogue for ladies — think parrots and birds of paradise — so she fits that mould, with an elegant and beautiful daemon; but on the other hand hyacinth macaws are much bigger, cleverer and more powerful than your average parrot, they’re less immediately eye-catching and surprisingly good at camouflaging themselves. They’re also (by parrot standards) relatively patient, even-tempered and shy, and they pair-bond quite strongly in addition to being generally social, but they can be destructive when they’re unhappy, and Jane, I think, quietly excels at self-destruction. The backstory that may or may not make it into the fic itself was that Jane spent a lot of time in her mid-teens being dragged around town to every menagerie and museum Mrs Bennet could manage to get tickets to, mostly without Elizabeth, feeling miserably shy and self-conscious because people kept staring at her. She saw a very lonely macaw (via a Portuguese trader Uncle Gardiner knew) trying unsuccessfully to hide from massive crowds in a showy display, and felt a sort of immediate empathy with it which, erm, stuck.

For Elizabeth, whose daemon is a gyrfalcon and, unlike Jane, a complete accident, I riffed a bit off Darcy. So, something fast (and, importantly, faster than a cheetah), independent and aggressive, but also beautiful, playful and charming — archness and sweetness, you know? Gyrfalcons are beautiful and quite acrobatic, and (pun incoming) their scientific name (falco rusticolus) means countryside dweller. They’re endemic to both England and the arctic areas that the witches are associated with, suiting Elizabeth and her interest in her foreign grandmother. They’ve also got a long association with the uppermost echelons of society, being the valued possession of kings and generally a mark of high honour to associate with in any capacity. (Darcy, whose family still regard themselves basically as vassals of the Raven King, absolutely knows what a gyrfalcon looks like and what it implies, but unfortunately rushed to judgement too soon. He’s in for a hard time sorrynotsorry)

For Mary, (short-eared owl), an owl was the obvious choice, given the association with seeking wisdom, if not necessarily finding it — I admit to a bit of petty amusement at the way owls are not, in fact, particularly bright birds, despite their reputations. Barn owls and snowy owls, while lovely, are just super over-done, and for Mary I wanted something little bit silly, too big and too drab in his colouring to be fashionable, but not fierce enough to command admiration. I figured by this point in their parenting career Mr&Mrs Bennet had moved on from dragging the girls around town, and what encouragement they got to consider the wonders of the natural world consisted of being pointed at the door and told not to come inside until dinner, maybe a  new book of illustrated plates if Mr Bennet thought it was interesting enough to buy. Short-eared owls are pretty commonplace in huge parts of the world, including the UK, so it’s quite likely that Mary would have come across them even with limited resources.

For Kitty, I admit that I don’t have a sub-species quite nailed — he’s a pink hummingbird, but that’s colouration rather than a specific type (possibly a bronze-tailed comet or a red-tailed comet). He’s pretty, tiny, silly and annoying, (‘for heaven’s sake stop buzzing about at breakfast! My poor nerves, etc etc’), which seemed a natural fit for Kitty. However, hummingbirds are also associated with the souls of dead warriors in Aztec mythology (although admittedly my knowledge in that field is woefully thin), and as Kitty has a fair bit of fight in her and absolutely no ability to pick her battles, her daemon would naturally be the sort of animal that starts fights they have absolutely no ability to win.

As for Lydia, well — she’s still working it out, in her own special way.

Another convention and another panel with the boys for you. Obviously you loved Jared and Jensen, who didn't? They were like real brothers to you by now, but something about panels and talking as well as answering questions in public still made you nervous. The band had just entered the stage meaning it was your time to step out into the light soon. "You ready Y/N?", Jared asked smiling down at you and you just swallowed with a nervous nod. 

"It'll go great! Just like all the times before.", Jensen backed him up. "I just hope I don't mess up.", you sighed and both boys frowned. "Have you seen one panels we didn't mess up anything in? Don't worry about that okay?", Jensen chuckled causing you to weakly nod. "I hope. I can't let you or the fans down.", you mumbled with a last breath backstage right before you stepped through the curtain following the two Js. "Hello San Diego!", Jensen shouted into his microphone making the crowd cheer while you sat down on your chair between the two immediately. "How are you today? Do you have any questions?", Jared also spoke into the device before the first question was asked. "Who of you three is closest to a real life angel?", a woman asked from beside the stage. "Y/N. Clearly.", Jensen nodded looking at Jared. "Yes, Y/N! She never fails to make me smile during a bad day or just on some random day she will bring you tiny treats to make sure you stay focused.", Jared explained making you blush. "I... I would say Misha actually. I am far from that, but he fulfills it, besides not having wings of course."

"Y/N is the light in our work days and even outside she makes sure we always know how much we mean to her. Just last week she actually handed me a book she loved with handwritten notes and little sketches in it. One of the characters reminded her of me, so she got me a copy and added situations we shared so I would never forget them.", Jensen spoke into the microphone and grabbed behind the curtain revealing the book. "I've been reading it ever since. Currently I'm on the seconds run.", he admitted and you felt tears rise in your eyes. "Yes! You told me that! Well this week right before we headed out to San Diego Y/N organized a day off for Gen and me. She took care of all three kids while we went to a spa with massages and everything that she had already booked and paid for just to make sure we'd have a relaxing day together before being separated again. How amazing even is that? I mean she had three kids to look after that day and looked out for the elderly couple besides her on the flight here too! Additionally to Jensen and me who can be quite a pain in the ass.", Jared explained to the cheering crowd while you turned around hiding your tears. Both Jared and Jensen quickly got up and walked up to you pulling you into a tight embrace.

She was literally wearing her PJs and had her hair in one of those crazy buns that make it look like a bird nest. When I told her how amazing the idea was she smiled widely basically lighting my whole living room." Jensen kissed your hair lightly and smiled at you. "You think you can listen to the others?", he asked quietly outside the range of the microphone. "Others?", you frowned looking up at the two and then at the side of the stage where Richard, Rob, both Marks, Felicia and Ruth waited smiling and with tears in their eyes. "You stay?", you asked your on screen brothers seeing them nod immediately. While Jared kept holding you close Jensen moved to his mic and waited for the crowd to calm down. "So, as you may have noticed we all love Y/N and she doesn't have a good day today. That happens from time to time and when he have one she makes sure we know how much she loves us, so we want to do the same for her now. Is that oaky for you? If others join us here on stage?", he asked and the crowed loudly yelled their yeahs and yes'. Jensen smiled and moved the chairs closer together so you would sit sandwiched between both of them before pulling you and Jared to them. You sat down slowly and Jared rubbed your cheeks to get rid of the tears. "We love you. And we're right here.", he smiled and took your hand not letting go of it. Jensen wrapped his arm around you and pulled you slightly closer just as Rob stepped on stage. "Well, as I'm god I know who the angels are. Y/N clearly is one. A few weeks back when I was on set she took me out after work to this amazing light festival! She said she saw it and basically knew I would fall in love with it, which I definitely did! She had hot chocolate for us and even some warm freshly made cupcakes she had baked in her trailer. How amazing is that? I absolutely adored that evening and I don't think she knows how much it actually meant to me.", he explained and stepped up to you kissing your forehead softly. After he stepped aside Rich appeared. "I'm actually crying already, I didn't realize Y/N did so many different things for all of us just to see us smile. What impressed me the most was that she decorated my apartment for Christmas last year. My shooting schedule was quite busy, but hers was as well and somehow she still managed to get me a Christmas tree, wrapped presents, ornaments and such beautiful lights and decoration just because she knew how much I love Christmas and heard me mention that I didn't have decoration yet. I mean who does that? Just to make me smile she stressed herself and not only got decoration but also presents and food for Christmas Eve for me and my family.", Rob spoke causing Jared and Jensen to look surprised. "She did that?", Jared gasped. "She did that.", the actor nodded. "I mean besides organizing the Christmas tree on set and getting small but amazing gifts for us all!", he added and you blushed at his words and the loving expressions on your on screen brothers faces. "For me it was amazing how she made me an Advents calendar! I don't know if that's a thing here, but apparently as her family is originally from Germany she gets a calendar with 24 little treats and she made me one and placed it in my trailer every year when I was on set in that time. The first year I was pretty new to set and was absolutely surprised by that, i had no idea who made it until the fifth day when there was a little handmade bracelet in it and everyone had it on, besides her, but we all had something connected to our characters and I'm actually still wearing that.", Mark Sheppard said and showed the bracelet to the camera. All of a sudden you felt Jared and Jensen let go of you and looked at them confused before seeing them show their wrists with the bracelets as well. "We hardly ever take them off.", Jared grinned. "I have mine as well!", Mark Pellegrini joined the stage bringing Rob and Rich along also showing their accessory. "But she did not only do that! When I had to leave set because of a role on another show she somehow got the crew to give her one of the screening rooms and set it up as a giant cinema with comfy cushions and a popcorn machine then invited the whole cast and me to a live screening of the show when it was on TV. She made me feel so supported and that was the day I knew joining the cast of supernatural was the best decision I've made. The evening was amazing and I still think back to it whenever I feel down.", he smiled softly playing with his bracelet deep in thoughts. "She even made me one of those bracelets although I'm only a guest star!", Felicia happily laughed when she stepped on stage. "But that's not all. The first day I appeared on set she had seriously made a cake for me with a beautiful decoration consisting of my previous roles and what I loved. I felt so bad for cutting it and destroying it, but she kept reassuring me that it was alright and that she could always make another one. Whenever I return some cupcakes are waiting in my trailer and I strongly guess that those are ones she made, but she never left a note or asked me how they were, just simply smiled when I said I had them and thanked the crew." "For me it was that she  regularly orders British candy and gives that to me as a surprise box and although I'm not supposed to know who they are from I know because she once wrapped it in the same paper as my birthday present. Those boxes are so surprising but so sweet! I'm always just like a little child on Christmas Eve!", Ruth spoke and by now most of the cast and crowd were not only touched, but crying. You were no exception.

1. A snowboarder raced an avalanche he caused

A snowboarder ended up causing an avalanche, and then had to race away from it in a thrilling and terrifying video. On the plus side, he escaped totally fine. 

2. It was so cold in Maine, a guy ice skated at the beach

This winter was so frigid in Maine, someone actually went ice skating at the beach. The sea water froze into a smooth, flat surface, perfect for ice skating. On Facebook, the OP joked, “Every day is a beach day in Maine.”

3. This bird photobombed a live weather report 

A beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay was abruptly interrupted by a giant bird with a mind of its own. While KTVU’s Mark Tamayo delivered his live forecast, the massive bird peered over the camera. 

4. A package thief almost got away unscathed, but karma had other plans

Karma’s a bitch. Home security footage captured a woman trying to steal a package, only to slip on the dewy front lawn and injure herself. An accomplice helped her hobble to the getaway car, and then came back for the fallen packages. The thieves definitely learned a lesson.

SpaceX stunned us all when it launched the Falcon Heavy into space, strapped with a Tesla. The most powerful rocket ever created was shot into space from Cape Canaveral, and hundred of thousands of people watched through the livestream. It’s pretty damn impressive. 

8. A drag queen dressed as Elsa singlehandedly rescued a police truck from the snow

There’s no damsel in distress here — Queen Elsa from Frozen was seen singlehandedly pushing a stuck police truck out of a snowbank. The drag queen managed to do it while wearing heels and a flowing gown. #Goals. 

9. This young yodeling prodigy captured our hearts in Walmart

Oh, yodel boy. A star was born in April when young Mason Ramsey was filmed yodeling to his heart’s content in Walmart. Since then, Ramsey has performed at Coachella, landed a record deal, and released a series of singles. And it’s all from this video.

This audio illusion tore apart the internet when friends argued over whether the audio said “Yanny” or “Laurel.” It’s The Dress of 2018, and people just can’t figure out how anyone could hear the other side.

It has only taken me 9+ months to round up part of my baby registry for you. I am not going to lie, the idea of putting a baby registry together period is mind boggling. How is one supposed to know what a baby needs.. When you never had a baby. I remember first sitting down to start our registry and I was so overwhelmed staring at the endless options for diaper trash cans. HOW COULD THERE BE SO MANY OPTIONS! (I went with this one!) Luckily I have alot of mom friends that sent me some lists of favorite things, my sister who has 2 kids, and other family and friends that were able to help me come up with the best of the best to add to my registry. Finding a place to register is a huge decision also. It’s important to find a place that has all the brands and items you love and where it will be easy to make returns or exchanges. Walmart.com not only has all the brands that I currently love and use but you know you are going to get a good price on them and you know you have a store close by to be able to pick up anything you might need or make exchanges. They make it quick and easy to sign up and they offer recommendations when you first start which is SO helpful when you feel totally overwhelmed. What I really love is that you can use their app to add items on your phone. So it’s super easy to add items on the go. I remember the advice rolling in and it’s hard to remember everything so being able to add to your list on the go is a must. They also send you a cute Baby Welcome Box to get you started which is a nice little perk. I broke down all the items you need for your nursery including baby gear, diaper and baby skincare, and bath and health items. Hope this helps you new mamas create your registries. Babyletto Gelato 4-in-1 Crib: Love this modern crib and it will easily transition once Otis gets older

Nook Sleep Organic Crib Mattress: This is a great non-toxic mattress that we love.

Hatch Baby Grow changing pad: It’s been a gamechanger to be able to weigh Otis to ensure he was growing between doctors visits. It’s also VERY easy to wipe down which is essential for pee that happens all the time when they are so little.

Hatch Baby Rest nightlight + sound machine: I have raved about this in the past. We have on in Otis nursery as well as next to our bed. It’s a dual sound machine and nightlight and came in handy during those late night feedings. Everything is customizable which I love.

Ubbi diaper pail: The top slide makes it easy to quickly dump diapers in.

Ubbi diaper bags: The custom bags are a must and fit perfectly.

Nanit smart baby monitor: It took some getting used to not having a traditional monitor but it’s worth it! The picture quality is unreal and it never lags. Also it’s great that we can access the video stream on our phones or tablets so you don’t have to worry about the battery of a monitor dying.

Nanit multi-stand: This is a must if you want to travel with your monitor. We bought this and it comes in handy on vacation or a weekend getaway.

Nest camera: We are a little overkill over here with the cameras. But we had one left over and I wanted a birds eye view of the nursery. We use nest cameras in the rest of our house so this ties in nicely.

Motorola Video Baby Monitor: When we want to use a non-wifi monitor, we travel with this one. It’s super reliable and the picture quality is great.

Crane ultrasonic cool mist drop shape humidifier: We have used this for ourselves and moved it into the nursery for Otis. A must have for baby congestion.

Halo sleepsack swaddle: I loved this sleep sack. It’s what I used to transition from the snoo sack to his crib and you can use it arms in or arms out.

My Brest Friend Deluxe Nursing Pillow: My favorite nursing pillow ever. The stability made it easy on my back and I knew he was in a perfect position for feeding.

Snoo Smart Sleeper: This one is a bit of a splurge but when I was registering I knew this was top on my list. Very pricey but worth every single penny!!

Snoo Fitted Sheet: Always invest in extra sheets for accidents.

Dockatot deluxe+ dock: This is another one of our most used gadgets. It was great for naps and placing baby in a safe place.

Dockatot deluxe transport bag: This is actually the only thing we don’t own. But I highly suggest buying this because I didn’t know it existed and we traveled everywhere with our dockatot.

DIAPER + BABY SKINCARE

Pampers Swaddlers Diapers: This is our favorite diapers. It’s what we used in the hospital and works best for Otis.

Pampers Pure Wipes: We love these wipes and have been using since Otis was born.

Dove Lotion: We love this lotion for after his bath or when his skin is dry.

Desitin Diaper Rash Cream: We tried so many different diaper rash creams and this one is still the most effective for us.

Purell Hand sanitizer bottle: We bought a million hand sanitizer bottles with a pump to keep in each room of the house. Goodbye germs.

Baby aquaphor: This stuff is magic. Basically put it on anything.

Munchkin bath: This bath came in handy to place in our sink for quick baths.

Safety 1st Sleepy Baby Nail Clippers: Cutting a baby’s nails is a scary job. This clipper is EPIC because it has a tiny light so you can really see what you are doing.

Braun no touch digital thermometer: We had 3 different thermometers in our house when Otis had his first fever and this one was the one that we used and loved.Infant Tylenol: Always good to register for this! It’s something we forget to and then one of those things you forget to go out and buy. Always great to have this on hand just in case.

Before & After Bathroom Renovation

  “Before and After” renovations are always a hit whenever I share them here on Home Bunch and I am sure this bathroom remodel done by a dear friend of mine, Mary Joseph of Interior Solutions by Mary – @interiorsolutionsbymary, will inspire and give you a little push to finally start planning on that master bath renovation you have being waiting for so long.

Here, the designer shares how she transformed a dark and dated bathroom into a dreamy modern farmhouse spa-like bathroom:

  “My goal was to transform my clients bathroom from a 1998 dark and dated bath into a Modern Farmhouse Spa Bath. After looking at the space and learning what my clients needs were, I started the design plan process. I wanted to use a clean and monochromatic look, so I chose to use a creamy white paint color throughout the space. Once that was decided, I layered in a mix of texture and design elements for visual interest. Those design elements included: the shiplap around the tub, the stained wood beam, stained wood floating shelves, the wood beaded chandelier, and the iron vanity mirrors. Based on the lighter color scheme, I also knew I wanted to use wood tiles in the space to help warm up the room and ground the space.

What the before photo doesn’t show, is that the bathroom was also lacking in storage. I created extra storage by designing custom vanities that were taller than their existing vanities and had deep drawers and full extension drawers. We also added electric to the drawers for hot irons and blow dryer. I also decided to raise the archway above the tub to open up the full view to the plantation shutters and accentuated the ceiling height of their bathroom. The addition of the wood beam was done to add warmth and character to the space. I decided to add shiplap around the tub area in order to add another layer of texture and dimension to the space. Both the beam and the shiplap work together to draw your eyes into the room and directly to the spa tub. And, the beaded wood chandelier, which is the same color as the floors, accentuates it all, just beautifully!”

Best Super Bowl Commercials Ever | Funniest Old Super Bowl Commercials

With how many amazing Super Bowl commercials come out every year, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Each year, brands seem to outdo themselves with bigger celebrities, funnier advertisements and catchier slogans, and we’re sure 2019 will be no different. Still, if we were to rank the best Super Bowl commercials ever, these 13 would make the cut.

From Beyoncé, P!nk and Britney Spears fighting gladiator-style for a Pepsi to the time Monster.com made us cry, the Super Bowl has produced dozens of memorable commercials over the years. And though each one is as creative as the next, there’s a select number of Super Bowl commercials that can only be described as “unforgettable.” Some of these commercials are from the ’80s (or even ’70s), while others are as recent as last year (who remembers when Cardi B replaced Amazon Alexa?). No matter when they premiered, these commercials will go down in Super Bowl history.

So ahead of 2019’s big game, we looked back on 13 Super Bowl commercials we’re still thinking about. Some of them make us laugh. Others make us think. Whatever these commercials do, we’re so happy they exist on the internet for us to relive over and over. Check out the best Super Bowl commercials ahead.

Coca-Cola: “Mean Joe Greene” (1979)

Pittsburgh Steelers player Charles Edward Greene, nicknamed “Mean Joe Greene,” starred in this 1979 Super Bowl commercial, which took a nickname Greene wasn’t fond of and turned into a heartwarming advertisement. The commercial features Greene limping after a game when a little boy approaches him and offers him a “Coke.” In return, Greene gives the boy his jersey.

Apple: “Introduce Macintosh” (1984)

Before the iPhone, there was the Macintosh. In 1984, Apple released this commercial to promote its new computer. The commercial features a future-like world, where a woman with a sledgehammer comes and destroys an IBM screen. The commercial was meant to mark the beginning of the Apple era.

Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and McDonald’s: “The Showdown” (1993)

Michael Jordan and NBC exec Larry Bird go head-to-head in this McDonald’s commercial for the 1993 Super Bowl. The commercial. The commercial features Jordan and Bird shooting hoops for a single Big Mac and fries.

Pepsi: “Nothing Like a Pepsi” (1996)

Pepsi and Coke’s rivalry dates way back. In this 1996 Super Bowl commercial, a Coca-Cola worker is seen on a security camera refilling Cokes at a grocery store. After he’s done, he decides to take a drink from the Pepsi side of the cooler, which causes the entire display to fall down. Looks like even Coke workers want a Pepsi.

Tabasco: “Mosquito” (1998)

There’s something so cheesy but so classic about Tobasco’s 1998 Super Bowl commercial. The commercial features a man dousing his pizza with Tabasco sauce—so much so that he’s sweating. When a mosquito comes and bites him, the bug immediately tastes the spice in his blood and flies away only to combust moments later.

Doritos: “3D Doritos” (1998)

To promote Doritos’s new 3D Doritos, the brand released this 1998 Super Bowl commercial, which features two guys at a laundromat trying to impress a woman by tossing 3D Doritos into their mouths. Little did they know that the woman was the most skilled food-thrower after she puts a bag of 3D Doritos into a washing machine and eats them as the washer spits them out machine-gun-style.

Monster.com: “When I Grow Up” (1999)

Monster.com may not be as memorable today, but their 1999 Super Bowl commercial sure is. In 1999, the career site released this Super Bowl commercial, which features kids talking about the current economy and job market and how they can’t wait to be a part of it. The commercial is sarcastic, but highlighted a huge issue when it came to job security at the time.

Terry Tate and Reebok (2003)

Reebok’s 2003 Super Bowl commercial marked the birth of Terry Tate, a fictional, over-aggressive football player created by the brand. The theme of the commercial is simple: Terry was hired by a company to keep its workers in check—by screaming in their faces.

Beyoncé, P!nk, Britney Spears and Pepsi (2004)

2004 saw three pop queens, Beyoncé, P!nk and Britney Spears, fight gladiator-style for a Pepsi. It’s one of the brand’s most iconic commercials, with the three singers belting Queen’s “We Will Rock You” to the audience, including Enrique Iglesias as a Caesar-like ruler.

Betty White and Snickers (2010)

Betty White was an MVP in Snickers’s 2010 Super Bowl commercial. The commercial featured a group of guys playing football when one, played by Betty White, starts to struggle. After one of the players tells the guy that he’s “playing like Betty white,” his girlfriend feeds him a Snickers. And just like that, he transforms from Betty White to a normal guy.

Justin Bieber, Ozzy Osbourne and Best Buy (2011)

2011’s Super Bowl saw a collaboration between Justin Bieber, Ozzy Osbourne and Best Buy. The fourth-wall-breaking commercial starts with Osbourne filming a Super Bowl commercial about a 4G phone when the director corrects him and tells him that the new version is a 5G. In the end, Bieber comes in and takes over, proving to the audience that “technology moves fast.”

Kim Kardashian and T Mobile (2015)

Kim Kardashian mocked herself with pitch-perfect humor in this T Mobile commercial for the 2015 Super Bowl. The commercial, which promotes the brand’s rollover data plan, features Kardashian talking about how much viewers can follow her life on the internet if their data rolled over and wasn’t wasted.

Cardi B, Gordon Ramsay, Anthony Hopkins, Rebel Wilson and Amazon Alexa (2018)

Amazon Alexa’s commercial for the 2018 Super Bowl featured a star-studded cast. The premise of the commercial is simple: Alexa lost her voice, and until it comes back, a few celebrities—like Cardi B, Gordon Ramsay, Anthony Hopkins and Rebel Wilson—have to do her job in her place.

Farm Stay | Mango Picking and Childhood Summers in Ratnagiri

“You want to go to a farm in Ratnagiri in the middle of May?”

“Yes! And we can go mango picking.”

“But in May?”

My reaction was not that unexpected. Temperatures often reach 40 degrees in Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra in the summer. It’s hot, sticky and uncomfortable. There was no way a farm in Ratnagiri sounded like the best escape. But I’d already missed a few family holidays, so I went along with Ma’s choice. Two weeks later, after a seven-hour drive on a sultry Friday morning, we arrived at Farm of Happiness in Ratnagiri’s Phungus village.

As soon as we’d arrived, my apprehensions about the heat melted away. The air smelled intoxicatingly sweet. I could almost hear the glee in Ma’s smile and saw Baba’s wondrous one as he looked up at bunches of perfect, green-yellow mangoes on trees. “The scent is of the fruit. Mangoes, jackfruit and cashews.” Rahul Kulkarni, the farm’s 48-year-old owner, greeted us with a smile. Over the next three days, I’d learn that this sustainable organic farm is Rahul and his 47-year-old actor-wife Sampada’s paradise. On the 20-acre farm is a traditional Konkani style home, with a large porch with tables and benches, many reclining chairs and even a couple of hammocks. With the signal gone on our phones,and this setting, I knew that we were not spending a lot of time in our rooms.

That evening, after a meal of taandalaachyaa paanagya (rice and jaggery pancakes steamed in banana leaves) and tea, I was tuning in and out of the conversation around me, focused on my Kindle, until I was distracted by shrill birdcalls. I didn’t know too many birds that called out after dusk—unless, like in this case, they lived in a phone. Our fellow guest was making his 12-year-old son hear the birdcalls he’d recorded. Focusing on the group gathered on the porch properly for the first time, I realised what a motley crew it was. My parents were enamoured with their game of carrom and with the other guest family’s precocious little daughter who had joined their game. Her mother read on the bench nearby. Her father, brother and Rahul were discussing the different birds the man had spotted on his trips here.

Noticing my interest, Rahul explained to me that the family had been visiting his farm at least three times a year for the last three years. “While adults usually come here to unwind and relax, children have the most wonderful reactions to the farm,” he said. “They are always curious and full of questions because the farm is like a science or geography lesson come to life. And there is the first-hand experience of meeting your food. They often think everything is grown on trees, from apples to rice. Seeing the vines, grass, and bushes for the different fruits, vegetables and crops leaves them in awe.”

Couple of hours later, trying hard not to smack my lips loudly over some komdi masala and bhakri at dinner—which is served on the porch—I learnt that Rahul used to be a city-bred advertising professional. “But at the peak of my career, I felt I was no longer creating something, and I was constantly looking for happiness.” Soon, the couple realised that visiting the farm, an ancestral property in Rahul’s father’s birthplace, always seemed to lift a weight off their shoulders. “Luckily for me, Sampada stood by my side encouraging me to pursue anything I wanted even if it meant that our finances would change.” It took a few years and many ideas until Anandache Shet (Farm of Happiness) finally took root.

“But I had to first learn to be a farmer,” he said. Walking around the farm next morning was an insight into that journey. The perennial fruit trees came with the land, but the various seasonal crops, vegetables and herbs that grow in the farm now were a result of years of learning. The carpet of leaves beneath our feet was strewn with buttery yellow cashew fruits. Breaking into the syrupy pulp, he cut out a cashew. Nibbling on the soft nut, we walked past a small biogas producing unit, a chicken coop, buffaloes and cows, and on to acres of farmland being prepped for the monsoon.

I spotted a pineapple growing by the house’s front steps, a scurrying gecko, a nest of red ants who had sewn together leaves with cottony saliva. By a small grove of bamboo, I saw the most lush jamun tree I had seen in a long time. Mangoes are the attraction here, but I have always been partial to the little fruit. Teeth stained purple, we walked towards the mango trees. I noticed that the adjacent field was already set for visitors coming in the monsoon. “We sow rice and many other grains in the monsoon. Growing your own food, that’s a pretty unique experience.”

For the next hour, we were all kids again. Armed with a long pole that ended in a contraption of net and blade, my father and I engaged in the battle of the mango pickers. My young arms finally won me a better count of alphonsoes. He gave it his best shot though, not to mention stopping every few minutes, to pick and feel and smell the fruit plucked by the farm help that lay in crates around us. His proudest moment though, was probably slurping on a mango he’d picked at lunch afterwards.

Skins still cool from a bath in the backyard spring pool, and tummies stuffed with a delicious Konkani lunch, Ma and I walked to the machan we’d spotted earlier. Lying on the sun-speckled twin beds, she spoke to me of childhood adventures climbing guava trees. The gentle whir of the fan on the machan’s pillar, and the balmy breeze rife with the scent of ripening fruit was like a lullaby. Just as Ma’s soft snores reached my ears, I felt myself drift away to peaceful slumber.

Walking back to the house early evening, I learnt another lesson. Never ask what there is to do when you’re here. Because there will always be an answer. Time seems to stretch infinitely at Anandache Shet, and you can spend it birdwatching, hiking, walking around, lying on a hammock with a book, watching the night sky through a telescope (as we did later) or getting on a boat.

The Baav river, flowing past Phungus, leads to the Arabian Sea. As Rahul spoke about how guests often came fishing here in the evenings, standing with nets in knee-deep waters, I saw a twinkle in Baba’s eyes. I’d suspect hearing this probably took him back to all the times he went fishing with his father in the pond behind their home. I have similar memories with my grandfather too: summer mornings spent unhooking tiny mackerel from his fishing rod, and trying to catch the slippery ones that jumped on to the mud bank.

Over three days, we relived our country childhoods one step at a time. And we paid attention to each other. Conversation and laughter filled our time. We learnt a lot about the kind of food we eat and grow. I even got a license for being a good bullock cart driver after a ride on the morning of our departure.

However, the best souvenirs I brought back weren’t just these experiences and lessons, it wasn’t even our handpicked mangoes (along with two other crates) or a stray bloom picked off the red earth. The getaway took me back to summers spent at my family’s ancestral home. Even better, it gave my parents back the summer of their childhood, which was filled with the scent of freshly-plucked ripe mangoes, devoured on sunny verandahs with sticky fingers and sweet pulp dribbling down salty chins.
