It’s really fascinating how the fictionkin community has kind of normalized a certain level of plurality seemingly without realizing it. In the fictionkin community it’s like there’s this natural spectrum of plurality that is just accepted as normal.

There are people with multiple kins that experience it in a singlet way and people who experience it in a plural way. They’ve created their own terminology surrounding their plural experiences within the fictionkin framework with polykin and kinshifts. It honestly feels like it’s more common to see people with multiple kins than with just one.

And I want to clarify, having more than one kin identity doesn’t necessarily make you plural on its own, this is very much a wide spectrum of different experiences and I find it very interesting. It kind of feels like getting a glimpse of what it would be like if plurality was never stigmatized in the first place and if it was just naturally integrated into society without us being separated into an entirely different category of people. Where singlets and systems are the same, where we’re all just people. some of us are just multiple, but that doesn’t make us fundamentally different. It’s kind of refreshing. There’s not as much of an “us and them” mentality. Of course what the fiction kin community has isn’t perfect for plurality, but it’s very interesting, and I feel like people should talk about it more.

This is all my observations as a partial outsider though since fictionkin has always been more of a neighbour community to us than something we’ve been actively involved in. I’d love to hear what people who are more involved think about it.

Do you know a collective term for ‘‘protectors’’ and ‘‘caretakers’’? I don't know of that makes sense.. but like 😭 a term to describe both of them at once (e.g., ‘‘yeah, sorry, you'll have to talk to a ____ about that!’’)

That makes sense! I've never heard a term for it so I'm just going to coin it!

Guardian - An umbrella term for alters who are protectors, caretakers, both, or similar roles.

The light brown and shield is for protecting roles The pink is for the care and love that they have while fulfilling these roles The blue and medical cross are for the gentleness of caretaking roles

Hopefully this helps and if you're not a fan of the term, here are some words that could also work: Patron, chaperone, guide, shield, and advocate

the post that i am nervous about posting

i saw a post earlier today and i felt i needed to address it. i'm not going to be linking the actual post as i feel that would be insensitive, but the basic gist of it was "i'm not a system because i have an insane number of fictives and can control who's fronting. plus, my childhood trauma wasn't strong enough to cause a split."

this was really bothering to us in a lot of ways.

number of fictives has no basis on validity, and it's a common tactic of fakeclaimers to target fictive-heavy systems and tell them that their existence is not valid.

WE control who's fronting. if felix wants to stop fronting, he simply asks raven, "would you mind fronting for a minute?" and they will. sometimes felix will stick to front and it's difficult for anyone else to front, but most times, we have control over it. that doesn't mean we're not a system.

say it with me, guys: IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH TRAUMA YOU HAD OR HOW STRONG YOU THINK IT WAS. everyone is different and different levels of stress can trigger splits in different people. plus, when you're a literal CHILD, things are much more intense than they would be if you were 5, 6 years older. DO NOT DIMINISH YOUR TRAUMA. it may not have been a family member dying, and it may not have been straight up abuse but when you're a kid, things hurt a LOT more than they would if you were older. PLUS THERE ARE DIFFERENT REASONS SYSTEMS FORM THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH TRAUMA.

quick disclaimer by the way: if someone thinks they're a system and it turns out they're not, that is absolutely fine, it takes time to figure yourself out and you might have some hiccups along the way. but also, if you think you're a system member, PLEASE don't diminish your existence just because someone tells you that the way you are plural isn't chill.

i don't usually post about sys stuff, but this felt important to address.

OH ALSO: if you're a system you're a system. it doesn't matter how old you are and it doesn't matter if people tell you you're not. there is no wrong way to be multiple. pls remember that

Time to be silly and ultra specific

I love and appreciate you chaos gremlins that are either semi/fully nonhuman, can come across as an asshole at times, have animalistic urges/instincts, use neopronouns, have an odd relationship with reality, identify with the bodys theriotype, are part of a subsystem, are seen as a parental figure, don’t know what the internet is, and just exist.

Being plural can be amazing

I love my headmates more than anything. More than anything. They’re loving and supportive and fun and will actually inconvenience themselves to help me when i need it even when they have their own problems too. Theyre my family and my friends and my partners more than anyone in the outside world has ever been.

There are struggles that come with being plural, not being able to be with my family physically is really hard sometimes. Being blurry sometimes sucks. Not having as much time as singlets do is unfair. The possibility of some of us going dormant or fusing is terrifying. But ultimately non of that can come even close to outweighing all of the positives for us.

There are some things that we can only do because we’re plural that we wouldn’t give up for anything. Like being able to feel each other’s thoughts and emotions, remembering what its like to be each other. Almost never being alone, always having a partner supporting me from inside our head, always by my side, always encouraging me. Being able to switch and share the same body, sharing all the struggles in our life. Having headmates who are all strong in different ways, being able to do things for us that i never could, and while at the same time i do things that they cant.

I love my headmates, they make me feel so safe and loved when the outside world is horrible to me. I dont think i would survive without them.

Being plural can be positive. For some systems it can be hard, it can take a lot of patience, a lot of forgiveness, a lot of heeling to get there, but it’s possible and it is so so worth it once you get there. Love your headmates and take care of each other.

if the chord is a system, and you're a clef introject, is clef within your system like... a subsystem? (I don't know how to phrase it) or multiple alters (e.g. clef and ukulele are seperate alters), or is it that your headcannon for clef (character) is that he's a system, and you (also clef but not character) just happen to also be a system that has a clef introject?
