Form Study - Mechanical Pencil, 2020
Found an old sketchbook of mine and thought I'd share the original sketch I made of an unfinished painting I posted a few years ago.
Had to update my signature on it.

It is so, so important to me that people understand that Tim didn't figure out the bats because Dick was a "Show off". Like yes, Dick Grayson is the most flamboyant, dramatic ass man you will ever meet.
But the quadruple somersault? There's no way that was because dick was just showing off. Because you're telling me Bruce Wayne, who's so committed to hiding his identity that he literally acts like a completely different person out of the mask in public just to ward suspicion, would miss the fact that Robin regularly uses the flying Grayson's trademark move? There's literally no way.
In the comics we see Tim explain his deductive process to Dick and Alfred and they're both surprised impressed whatever. We don't see him explain it to Bruce. I think Bruce would be surprised and shocked that a 9 year old was able to put the pieces together but I don't think he'd be surprised that the quadruple somersault gave it away.
So if Bruce was possibly aware of such an obvious give away, why let it continue?
I'll tell you why.
It really comes down to the physics
So Dick was 9 when he started out right? That means the most he'd have likely weighed was 43kgs or roughly 95lbs in freedom units.
But Dick and both of his parents are gymnasts who tend to be smaller. So he was likely less than that.
In physics, rotating objects build up angular momentum (this is how bikes stay up right for example). The more rotation, the more momentum. And objects with less mass build up that momentum much faster than those that are heavier.
Robin constantly has to fight people who are nearly 3 times his size. I teach 8 year olds, they're tiny. A quadruple somersault for a small boy that weighs less than a hundred pounds is a brutal weapon. Especially if you add in the acceleration from gravity as he drops in from above.
And I can guarantee you this logic tracks because Dick literally utilizes this idea, without the somersault, in the 2009 teen titans cartoon.
Yeah, that's right. We're talking about the infamous knee drop.
Like it is borderline savage. Add in a quadruple somersault and the resulting force is nearly fatal. It's likely the main reason Batman would ever allow him to do it with the cape on.
Also, Dick landing feet first on the penguin in the first image probably gave the guy severe back issues
#I'm so tired of people giving Dick shit for being a show off#like he is for sure#but thats not what gave him away#it's strategic and practical#he's using the skills he already had in his repertoire to his advantage#also unrelated but#when Tim shows up to convince dick to be robin again#and has to explain how he figured it out#it was just after the arc where dick and bruce had to deal with tony zucco getting out of prison and nearly starting a gang war#pretty sure zucco dies sometime during it#but it brings up a lot of feelings for dick#which is the entire reason Tim finds him at Haley's circus in new york#then Tim immediately reminds him about his parents death again#and technically jasons too because thats his entire purpose for being there#point is#dick was going THROUGH it when Tim shows up#idk thought it bore mentioning#lena speaks#batman#tim drake#dc comics#robin#batman and robin#dick grayson#bruce wayne#nightwing#dc robin#dc analysis#a lonely place of dying#physics

#I'm still waiting for the formal offer letter but let me tell you how i got this job#a hiring manager reached out to me on LinkedIn asking if I'd be interested in the team he's building#so i was like yeah I'll throw my hat in#i had an easy coding screen with him (valid palindrome lol)#then i had a screen with another manager around QA practices#then i went through four more interviews as part of a 'final loop'#one was a more difficult coding question. one was design a test framework. one was QA-behavorial#and the other was communication + collab behavorial#each of those six interviews was a 45 minute video call btw#this all took like. three months lmfao#then a week after that i heard back that they didn't want me for that role#but that one of the guys i interviewed with is a hiring manager on an adjacent team and he really liked me#when i looked back at my notes sure enough that guy is the one who ended our call with 'i hope i get to work with you!' lol#so they wanted to put me for this other slightly less technical role#and i was like yeah sure why not i liked that guy too lol#so the next day i had one final interview with a senior leader asking about my priorization and conflict resolution skills#which makes sense since this is a more cross-functional communication role with lots of talking to developers#and that guy was awesome and definitely someone I'd work for#so a few days later i got the verbal offer!#i will also add that during all of this i also went to the final stage for a different team at the same company#but was plain out rejected from that one lol#plus i did beginning screens for two other roles as well and didnt make it as far#all this to say i did like... over a dozen interviews with this company since October lol#and i studied like CRAZY. i spent hours on leetcode and hours putting together stories from my experience#i worked very very very hard and it finally fucking paid off!!!!!#back in october i said to my wife 'i want to get a job at (company). i think that will be my goal now.'#and she was like lol ok. but i kept getting interviews and studying for them#working harder than i ever did in college even lmao. and she was like oh wait you're really serious#and then she helped me sooooo much by taking care of the kids while i studied and stuff like that#but yeah i did it. i put my mind to it and i fucking did it!!!!!

The conversation: The royal guards will be so out of practice with purges that everyone is going to have a horrible time as they murder this 15 year old girl who never should have been a purge target and is understandably fighting against their hold out of fear.
The back of my mind:
#regicide au#oh unnamed sister of Empress Dyana I'm sorry you got the short end of the stick because your sister thought she was the true heir#it's not fair you had to wake up to the news of your twin brother's death only to then join him right after#and yeah technically because she was under 16 she should have been strangled but I feel they would have stabbed her#probably felt more efficient because to strangle someone with minimal complications takes a lot of practice and skill#the royal guards would have had training on how to do the heart stab correctly as a baseline so they'd revert to that

Inspired by the last post i reblogged, genuine question, what is recreational dancing? Just like casual at the club dancing? Is it just random movement? Why? Watching any individual person it doesnt really look random. They seem to be making decisions about how to move in some sort of way. How? People always say there is no “correct”, but people also criticize people who do it “badly”, so how is that defined? I cant find a pattern
Also genuine question, why would you want to? Sitting still is physically and mentally easier (and socially easier apparently, because of secret rules they insist dont exist), so im curious what the appeal of casual dancing is?
#for some extra context im autistic and im a performance dancer#i understand choreography. creating a dynamic work of art thats carefully calculated and planned and crafted and refined in a longer process#i understand the discipline of technical types of types and the excitement of getting good at something#improv as a style of performance dance is still like. more like speedpainting#youre still carefully crafting art its just that youre doing it fast#but casual recreational dancing isnt for performance. its not really something you can get ‘good’ at. its a whole different situation#its more like stimming maybe? its just that it doesnt happen to be stimmy to me?#practicing performance styles of dance was always stimmy to me#but if you did any of these performance moves or sequences at the club people would look at you like a lunatic#one does not simply grande jete through your friends living room while holding a beer#on that note: how do you know whats acceptable to do?#i know all my giant kicks and jumps and floorwork probably isnt it. but like. why?#a pirouette wouldnt really bother anybody but it would still be bizarre#whats *not* bizarre? everything i know is weird. all of these skills are non-transferrable#lilac posts

What are you studying at your university?
English language! Its history, development and modern English language as well, of course! Also French and Spanish but I'm beginning to forget them because they are more of secondary languages (still beautiful languages! I wish to reach level B1 of each of them. Hopefully more)
And technically literature too but that's not my strong suit at all while I like English. Truly a case when I wasn't mistaken in my choice which I made when I didn't have a good idea where to go. But then I enjoyed it so much!
#Thanks for the ask!#To be honest if you told my middle school self that I chose English as major she wouldn't believe. But here we are#And now I feel kind of obligation to write everything correctly because everything I do here is practice#Yes all my yttd thoughts are technically me honing my English skills even if I write them out of love and hyperfixation#It's a shame I probably make many errors... But it's a process of learning and unavoidable anyway

debating whether to give kibellah a psychic awakening just to add a fun twist whenever she gets really defensive about not knowing shes a psyker
#not currently playing video games just thinking about them bc im at work. sad times.#on one hand not sure how useful it would be for her specifically. on the other hand it would be fun to rotate in my brain. hm.#suppose it would be divination? edge of fate & flawless plan would be handy for her...#idkkkkk the only skill i would really get any use out of would be precognition#telepathy maybe... psychic shriek/assault would at least give her a ranged attack.#mental breach & visions of doom would pair well too#might have to completely respec her tbh. might have to completely respec delta as well... i dont think soldier & bounty hunter#is the best combo esp when i have yrliet as a bounty hunter as well........ master tactician maybe? hm.#day 3 of empty dental practice completely alone answering the phone for 9 hours btw. technically i only need to be answering the phone#for 8 of those hours but home is juuuust far enough away that i wouldnt have much time to eat before i have to come back#miserableeeee its miserable hereeeeeeeeee...........#rt lb#meposting
