A Fortpeat Gifset | The Casting of Sky + Prapai (December 2021)
Fort: "I met him on casting day. I didn't know he received the role of Sky. I realised that he was my partner for the afternoon casting. He was cute.
Interviewer: When was the magic moment?
Fort: I guess it would be the moment I touched Peat's cheek.
And the rest was history.

I just. had an idea.
The Emperor's Coven, like many large organizations, probably doesn't update their magical cybersecurity very often. The castle's crystal ball techs probably don't wipe the old units as thoroughly as they should before disposing of them, if they even bother to wipe them at all, and Jasper probably knows where the old units get dumped. Belos definitely has a brain for physical tech, but there's no proof that he ISN'T an old man who doesn't understand basic internet safety or CB security measures, and he's full of himself and is absolutely certain Jasper is dead.
So like. Jasper's passwords probably never got changed.
Jasper gets ahold of an old castle CB and just. logs in every Friday to check on Hunter's assigned mission for the weekend and then just. goes there.
He also probably reads through Hunter's mission reports and snoops around other parts of the network and generally stays very up-to-date on what's going on in the castle. He knows everything.
Raine: So we need you to do ABC-- Jasper: Won't work. Raine: What do you mean it won't work? Jasper: Because according to my intel the situation is more XYZ. Raine: How do you know that?! I don't have clearance to know that!!! Jasper: I have my sources.
Somewhere in the castle's basement is a rookie CB tech who is only just starting to realize how soul-sucking this job is. "Hey," they say, looking at the audit they just ran, "why does this account that's supposed to be inactive show random logins?"
"Oh, leave it," says the old-timer who's counting down the days to retirement. "It's a glitch. It's been doing that for over 10 years."
"Isn't that, like, a security concern?"
"Nah, it's nothing. And it's the old Golden Guard's account, so shutting it down would also delete, like, every file and report ever associated with it, which would be bad. Trust me, it'd be more of a hassle to shut it down than to just deal with a looping glitch."
The rookie looks from the old-timer back to the audit and thinks, I can either make a fuss over nothing, or I can nod and go on my lunch.
They go on their lunch.
THATS IT THATS IT THATS WHATS HAPPENING
jaspers in his hideout with his fucking magic computer and his stolen wifi and he's reading hunters mission reports like he's reading his kids homework.
God imagining Raine desperately trying to figure out his contact is so funny. After Belos dies they can finally be like how the FUCK were you getting all that and he's just like I was a teenager with a computer

This is for that au roulette thing i reblogged uhh yesterday
AU: Community theatre
Barry's in hell. He died in a horrific car crash and everything that's happened in the last hour has been the universe punishing him for stealing Alex J's cupcake on the last day of 3rd grade. This is the only explanation.
It couldn't possibly be because he's smitten for a very pretty girl he's known only since he forced himself to socialise and volunteered to do lights at the city theatre. How long has it been? Three weeks? Twenty years? Fifteen minutes?
But she caught him singing to himself and convinced him to sing to her for real. Then when the guy playing the titular character turned out to be an absolute jerkwad, he was shoved into an audition room and now he's sitting in a chair trying not to cringe as Taako paper machés half his face.
Why they decided to do Phantom of the Opera, Barry will never understand. Their funding is about 20 dollars and a paperclip, but the things Magnus can rig up with some plywood and a quick trip to Home Depot are truly magical.
The dressing room door opens and in the mirror he sees Lup come up behind him, very obviously suppressing a smile.
"You're laughing at me," he deadpans.
"No I'm not!" She looks offended at the notion. "It just looks silly before the mask is painted."
He chances a look at himself, and she's not wrong. There's some glue-water dripping down his chin, he has a makeshift cotton-ball-and-medical-tape eyepatch, and there's a full colour Garfield comic across his forehead. "I can't believe I agreed to this."
"You'll do great."
He resists the urge to shake his head as Taako puts another strip of paper on his face. Moving too much is what got him stuck with Garfield. "I haven't been on a stage since I was thirteen. I'm a backstage kind of guy."
"Who can sing like a leading man."
His face flushes, and even with his half vision he can see Taako roll his eyes. "I'm just glad Greg's finally fucked off," he says. "That guy was getting way too into it."
Barry frowns. "Really? How?"
Taako snorts. "You know that guy who played the joker who left, like, gross shit on people's doorsteps?"
"Nnnnno? I'm not really a celebrities kinda guy."
Taako covers up the Garfield strip with the last of the newspaper (probably because he knows Lucretia would throw a paintbrush at him if she had to cover a full colour comic with the theatre's mediocre paint) and starts washing his hands. "Well some dude was being a freak about playing the joker cause he's "method" and Greg was also being a freak."
"It was like he was trying to be the phantom of this theatre," Lup says, "but he didn't seem to realise it doesn't work when we all know he's doing it."
"Well, I, uh," Barry clears his throat, "I promise I won't be a freak? But, you know, who's gonna do lights now? I mean I-"
"Magnus," Taako says, flicking the water off his hands.
"He couldn't take over the phantom?"
Taako barks a laugh. "Trust me, you do not want to hear Maggie sing."
"He's not that bad," Lup defends.
"He's not that good either. He's better off sticking to Shakespeare and woodworking."
Barry's eyebrows raise. "Shakespeare?"
"Face," Taako scolds. Barry drops his surprise back to neutral. "But yeah, the guy can't sing for shit, and he won't be acting in any blockbusters any time soon, but jeezums can he recite a soliloquy."
"I can actually understand ol' Willy Shakes when Magnus does it," Lup says. "He was Macbeth last year."
"Oh, I remember that!" Barry says, "my mom and I came, and afterwards she kept saying how-"
He's cut off by loud, thundering steps out in the hallway. Somewhere outside the door a booming voice shouts, "TO BE, OR NOT TO BE," the door's thrown open and reveals Magnus, "THAT is the question."
The three of them stare at him, bewildered. He smiles, "I heard someone say Shakespeare?"

weird question but do you know any place i can find a summary of chapter 5? or if you have one? i dont like vil so i cant really make myself sit and read the whole chapter but i wanna move forward and read chapter 6 but ALSO feel like i should know the important plot points so im not like "wtf is going on"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean 🥲 I don’t like Vil either, but I’d still highly encourage you to read episode 5! Getting a summary isn’t really the same as experiencing the story for yourself; the visuals, songs, and voice acting really helps to sell the emotions and the stakes. Who knows, maybe you’ll leave episode 5 with a little more appreciation for Vil (or the other characters; they all have various cute or heroic moments)? He’ll come back to play a major role in episode 6 anyway, and his character moments won’t hit as hard if you didn’t read 5. For example, there’s a particular line of Rook’s in 5 that Vil repeats in 6 which really hammers home his character development since 5.
… Although I won’t lie, episode 5 has veeery slow pacing because it’s basically one long, dragged out training arc 😂 so I’ll summarize what happens anyway; just know that I’d still recommend actually playing through the story yourself, especially if any of these plot points seem too cool or too interesting to not witness yourself. I’ll be glossing over things that aren’t relevant to the main conflict, so 💦 please keep that in mind!
Sooo Yuu starts off Book 5: A Beautiful Tyrant by finally starting to put the pieces together; they visit the Great Seven statues and confirm their own suspicions that the figures in their dreams are the same as the people depicted in the G7 statues (though their actions are framed as more “evil” in the dreams).
Yuu tells Adeuce and Grim about Mickey! They suggest that Yuu takes a picture of Mickey with the Ghost Camera so they can use it to investigate who or what he is.
There’s a dorm leader meeting to give exposition about an upcoming event. NRC will be having a two-day cultural festival in about two months! They will put on a bunch of activities, as well as showcase their clubs and give presentations on the art and research their students have produced.
One of the biggest events is the Vocal and Dance Championship (VDC). In EN, this has been changed to Song and Dance Championship (SDC), so I will refer to it by the English name to avoid confusion. It’s basically the music industry equivalent to what the Magical Shift/Spelldrive tournament was in episode 2; it’s a golden opportunity to launch many people’s singing careers in the entertainment industry. (A lot of talent agencies will apparently clamor to sign you on for a professional debut if you’re a SDC finalist!) The favorites to win this year are Vil and Neige Leblanche (twisted from Snow White).
I won’t mention every single time this happens, but throughout the chapter Vil has these segments where he asks his phone assistant Mira (TWST Alexa or Siri, basically) who the fairest of them all is. Mira always replies with “Neige Leblanche”, which seems to greatly frustrate Vil.
Anyway, Adeuce and Grim are interested in entering SDC because if the team representing their school makes it to the finals, they’ll get a cash prize of 50,000 thaumarks (5 million madol in JP).
Ace and Grim are pumped about trying out for NRC’s team, but Deuce is hesitant and bails.
The group eats lunch and then chills in the courtyard; it’s here that they hear singing and follow the song. It was Epel who was singing down a well (a Snow White reference), because he thought the well would help project his voice more clearly.
Deuce recognizes Epel as the crying boy he ran into at the end of episode 4! Epel says he recognizes Yuu and co. from the Magical Shift/Spelldrive tournament; he also heard about them from his classmate Jack.
Epel tells them about how his dorm leader Vil wants him to practice singing and that he’ll be a part of the SDC auditions. However, it seems that Epel isn’t eager to do this (which Deuce notices).
Vil comes to check on Epel and catches him talking to Yuu and co,; he is disappointed in Epel for “slacking off” and tries to drag him off. When Epel resists, Vil reminds him of a promise they made, which makes Epel fall into line.
Ace, ever the nosy one, picks a fight with Vil (because he doesn’t think he should be bossing Epel around). Epel begs everyone to not do it, but they fight anyway and Vil is, of course, victorious.
This reinvigorates Deuce’s motivation to be in SDC; he wants to help Epel, who seemed to be so hesitant about taking part.
Adeuce and Grim practice dancing on the basketball court. Here they run into Kalim and Jamil, who are also planning on auditioning since they already enjoy singing and dancing. The Scarabia boys give some pointers on dancing to Adeuce and Grim.
Azul shows up; he needed to find Jamil (they’re classmates) because Professor Trein needed his help with handing papers out. The boys banter a bit and Azul reveals that he was bluffing in episode 4 about live streaming Jamil’s breakdown and OB to the world. Only the Scarabia dorm members are aware of the incident.
Tying up loose ends from the ending of 4!! Kalim was able to convince everyone to let Jamil stay on as vice and to give him a second chance. Jamil claims that he is behaving for now to atone what he did, though he also says he will work hard to prove his worth.
The Scarabia boys tell Adeuce to sign up for SDC auditions via a “Rook Hunt”, who is in class 3-A. They go and do this and uh (well, Leona cameo but that’s not important) 🤡 well, Rook does what he does best and spooks them.
Cut to the VDC auditions! We see other competitors, one of which is Lilia (who delivered a holiday card from “M.D.” to Yuu) and Cater! They share some tea about the mysterious Shroud brothers, who enrolled at the same time and seem to do everything together.
Cater wants to show Grim a video, but he’s forced to sit through an ad first. It’s an advertisement for an apple soda featuring Neige (who, if you’ll recall, is one of the favorites to win SDC).
We get to hear various characters (Cater, Ruggie, Kalim, Jamil, Epel, Ortho, and Lilia) sing part of TWST’s opening song, Piece of My World!
Auditions wrap up and at first Vil wants to pick only the best performers, a she believes this will give him the greatest chance of beating Neige. However, Rook stops him and suggests that he instead pick people who are rough around the edges so Vil can polish them to perfection. Rook points out that he sees a lot of potential in Adeuce in particular.
Rook shoots an arrow at Adeuce with a letter attached to it letting them know they passed auditions, so they should report to Pomefiore dorm. Yuu is also told to come along.
The gang pulls up to Pomefiore and meet Kalim and Jamil there. Turns out the Scarabia duo have also passed!
A bunch of Pomefiore students start attacking them, but they manage to battle their way to Pomefiore’s ballroom where Vil is waiting. This was all a test he arranged so they could prove their worth to him.
So the SDC team is: Vil, Rook, Epel, Jamil, Kalim, Ace, and Deuce.
There’s only a month left until SDC. Crowley wants Yuu to let the NRC team hold their training camp at Ramshackle, since he is convinced that living together will help them build teamwork. He originally thought of holding the camp at Pomefiore, but he didn’t want some students to feel out of their element. They get bribed with a cut of the prize money and the promise of Ramshackle renovations 😂 so Yuu’s like “Okay, sure. C’mon in.”
Everyone moves in, and Vil starts imposing new rules on the SDC team members. For example, he takes away their snacks (including an apple pie and chocolate cake that Trey sent with Adeuce) and says he has designed low calorie yet nutritional meals for them. (I want to be clear here: some people misinterpret this part as “Vil is starving them like Mama Rosehearts starved Riddle!” which is NOT true. Rook says that this is not a diet in that sense, but to help them be in shape. Vil wants them to eat healthily so they can perform at their best.)
Vil gets a phone call from his manager who says he has been offered a role in a biiig movie production… as the villain. The hero for this movie will be played by Neige. Upon learning this, Vil becomes irritated and insists his manager reject the offer. He doesn’t care how much money he could earn from this, he says that all he wants to do is “stand the stage until the very end”. Vil then tells his manager to not contact him again until SDC is over.
It is revealed that the voting for SDC is done via audience poll, not by professional judges. This is an important detail to keep in mind for later.
Vil shows the group an original song (Absolutely Beautiful). In EN, he says he commissioned it but in JP he is more vague with his wording, which has led some fans to conclude that Vil personally worked on producing this song. (Uhhh, they also sing Piece of My World at some point.)
He tries to show them a video to help everyone get a feel for the dance choreography, and another ad featuring Neige plays. The boys talk about how Neige is such a popular celeb these days, and how he’s a student of Royal Sword Academy so that makes him their rival. Vil says something cryptic about how he’ll finally defeat Neige this time.
Vil picks himself, Epel, and Jamil as the main vocalists. Jamil is surprised and starts to say that Kalim should be picked instead of him, but Jamil stops himself and accepts the role.
Epel says he isn’t sure about being picked, but Vil again brings up their promise which makes him comply.
They keep practicing and Epel pisses Vil off when he says the dance is too girly. Vil chews Epel out for having outdated views on gender and then places him on a solo ballet regimen. Deuce asks to join Epel for his ballet lessons!
A ghost delivers 10 crates of apple juice to Epel. This is unsold stock from his family’s business, which is struggling at the moment. They all chill and sip on the apple juice!
Vil interrupts to lecture them on skincare. Ace asks isn’t there magic to make them instantly beautiful? This seems to annoy Vil, who says that he’s not interested in “beauty that only lasts until the strike of midnight”.
Yuu wakes up in the middle of the night to find Kalim singing outside Ramshackle. He confesses that he’s frustrated about not being chosen as a main vocalist. Kalim’s so used to having everything handed to him that the experience of being overlooked surprised him. He says that he wants to try hard so that he will genuinely be picked for something because he’s actually the best choice for it.
It’s revealed that Jamil was listening in on Kalim!
Adeuce sneak bites of Trey’s apple pie and chocolate cake. Vil catches them in the act 🤡 Adeuce suddenly fall over and can’t move!! Vil tells them he put a curse on the baked goods using his unique magic/signature spell. Fairest One of All allows Vil to lay a curse for anything he touches. The conditions he sets must be fulfilled, for even the original caster cannot lift it. (Vil cursed the pie and cake so that if anyone eats it, they cannot move until morning comes.)
Yuu sees Mickey in the mirror again but fails to take a picture of him. They begin to wonder how their original world and Mickey’s may be connected.
This isn’t relevant in the story of 5, but it may be important overall lore-wise. Apparently it is possible to transfer into NRC; Kalim originally did not go to NRC but the dark carriage came for him one month after Jamil enrolled.
Epel becomes frustrated with practice and wants to quit the team. He fights with Vil and loses, prompting Epel to run off.
Deuce suggests maybe Vil be nicer, but Vil snaps that Deuce has no room to be worrying about others or taking back when he’s falling behind the rest of the team. Vil compares Deuce to Ace, saying that the difference between them is too obvious. Ace tells Deuce to focus on himself more, and Deuce gets mad because someone naturally gifted like Ace wouldn’t understand him.
The team is really fractured at this point, so Jamil suggests taking a break. During this break, Rook advises Vil that he show Epel “the power of beauty”, to which Vil agrees.
Rook and Kalim give Deuce a pep talk! It leads Deuce to nabbing a magical wheel (blastcycle?) from Ignihyde and driving himself and Epel to a local beach. (They also see RSA on the way!)
The two shout their frustrations at the sea, and Epel’s dialect comes out full force which shocks Deuce. Epel then explains how he doesn’t want people to underestimate him because of his looks. On his first day (before he was sorted into a dorm), Vil tells him to button up his shirt and comments on his cute face, which causes Epel to instigate a fight.
Vil wins and tells Epel that “the weak obey the strong”, so until Epel is able to beat him, he has to listen to everything Vil says. This explains why Epel usually hides his dialect; Vil says that he doesn’t have a problem with Epel’s love for his hometown, but that there is a time and place for the dialect and his rude attitude. In this case, he must address his superiors properly.
The two first years have a heart-to-heart! Epel talks about wanting to become stronger, and Deuce talks about how how his own strength is how amazingly stupid and stubborn he is.
Epel gets a phone call from his mom!! Their business was suddenly flooded with orders from all over the world, and she says a customer told her it was because of “Vil”, whom Mrs. Felmier recognized as Epel’s dorm leader. She asks him to thank Vil for her.
Vil made a Magicam post featuring the Felmier family apple juice! All of his fans want to try the same juice, so they’re buying it en masse. This is the “power of beauty” Vil wanted to show him, that being beautiful and being strong can be powerful in their own rights, and that until Epel understands that, he can never defeat Vil.
They’re interrupted by some random NPCs that want to ride on Deuce’s (borrowed) ride. The NPCs get aggressive, but Epel is able to catch them off-guard with his cutesy looks. This lets Epel get some hits in!
The NPCs are beating them 😔 but suddenly…?! Deuce’s magical power overflows…!!
We cut to a later point that day when Epel and Deuce return, apologize to Vil, and rejoin the SDC group. Deuce confronts Ace and swears to him that he doesn’t plan on losing to him!
Crowley gives everyone in the team tickets for them to invite people to see the show. Yuu gives their ticket to Malleus.
The cultural festival has arrived at last! Yuu spends some time looking around at the attractions with Grim. We get a bunch of cameos from other characters.
While looking through some of the exhibitions, they see some NRC mob students bullying some short RSA students. The NRC boys intervene, and then Chenya comes to pick up the short kids (which are twisted versions of the Seven Dwarves).
Yuu and co. go to the SDC location (the Purple Stage) for rehearsals. Surprise?! Neige appears!! Vil is curt but professional with him.
NRC does their practice run and, for a brief moment, Vil is considered “most beautiful” (he checks with Mira). Buuut then Neige and the dwarves do their practice run (EN removed the song Minna de Yahoo), and Neige is on top again 😭 (Their performance isn’t even that well-executed, they’re very clumsy and everything. The song also isn’t very unique; it’s an arrangement of a popular children’s song from the Shaftlands. However, it still makes the filming staff feel nostalgic and they gush about how cute Neige is and how pure he makes them feel.)
Vil gets a scary look on his face and leaves; Rook, Kalim, and Jamil notice the look he made 👁️ 👄 👁️ Errr, Vil shatters his phone (“mirror”) in a fit of rage.
Yuu follows Vil backstage because they have a bad feeling. They see Vil offering apple juice from Epel’s family to Neige.
Neige is about to drink it until Rook intervenes and tells him (his “Snow White”) to hurry away because the staff need him. Rook takes the juice for himself and tries to drink it, but then Kalim cuts in and knocks the glass out of his hand.
It starts bubbling on the ground 💀 Vil cursed the apple juice! Kalim says he recognized the face Vil was making; it’s just like Jamil before he went mad over winter break.
Rook says he wanted to drink the juice even knowing it would harm him because he wants to believe that Vil wouldn’t tarnish his beauty and hard work by stooping so low.
The spilled juice vaporizes into a toxic mist, and Vil begins to Overblot 😔 He is different than the previous Overblots in that he is somewhat self-aware of what is happening to him (he shouts at everyone to not look at him, at his “ugliness”; the ugliness here is not literal, Vil is most likely referring to his “ugly” actions (ie the attempt to poison Neige, perhaps even kill him).
Jamil comes on the magic carpet to whisk everyone somewhere safe! He lets them know he used Snake Whisper to get Neige to put on a performance. This performance lured people away to watch him (plus, the first years went around getting rid of loiterers), so the SDC stadium is empty except for OB Vil, Grim, Yuu, and the NRC SDC group.
Deuce saves the day by directing the damage he has taken so far back at Vil…! This is the unique magic/signature spell he unlocked on the beach, Bet the Limit (Double Down in EN).
In the post-OB flashback sequence, we learn that Vil’s dad was a famous actor as well! It seems that Vil has consistently been casted as the villain ever since he started his own acting career. He resents this, because according to him, “a villain never stands on the stage until the very end, they can only watch the happy ending from the sidelines”.
Vil was also bullied in the past, although it is a different kind of bullying than Azul suffered. Other kids assumed he was as cold and cruel as the villains he portrayed in films, dramas, and musicals. (We see young Jack defending Vil!) He worked very hard in hopes of landing a hero role—but he was still never chosen.
Vil wakes up and finds himself upon a ruined Purple Stage. SDC can’t happen like this…
Malleus shows up with his ticket and uses his magic to repair the stage—he came to see their performance, after all. (It is also here when Yuu finally learns who “Tsunotaro/Hornton” truly is.)
SDC happens!! More cameos from characters in the audience as they vote.
RSA wins by one vote. That deciding vote was… Rook! Now, he gets a lot of hate for this move, but 🥲 he explains that he couldn’t lie to himself; he was genuinely moved more by Neige than his own group’s performance. Additionally, he says that even if they technically didn’t win a competition or get the most votes, so long as Vil has the strength to believe in himself… then no matter how old or disheveled Vil is, he will always be fairest of them all.
Vil collapses and cries…
Neige comes over and??? Turns out that Rook is a HUGE Neige fan 😂 (When first moving into Ramshackle, Vil remarks on a thick book Rook brought with him. They never looked at what was inside, but it was a bunch of Neige bromides.) Neige says he recognized Rook as his fan (“R”) because Rook called him “Snow White”.
Aaand Neige says everyone should sing together :)) (Again, this was removed from EN.) Vil suffers a lot :)))
Crowley is mulling over another loss to RSA and encounters its headmaster, Ambrose the 63rd (twisted from… Merlin???). Ambrose remarks that he senses strong magic in the area (probably residual from either Malleus or OB Vil) and that he’ll have to keep an eye on Crowley’s students.
Yuu finally grabs a picture of Mickey, but then notices Grim is missing so they leave to find him.
They see Grim on the Purple Stage eating Vil’s OB stone. When Grim notices Yuu there, he attacks them.
We finish off on a preview to Ignihyde. Idia gave a presentation at the cultural festival that made a lot of people interested in having him as an intern. Ortho offers to read the email opportunities to him, but in a resigned tone, Idia says to delete them all because he thinks he “doesn’t belong anywhere” so it’s not worth trying to.

17 - Close Your Eyes Forever
You only had three things to do over the next few days.
Three.
Call you mom. You needed the truth, you needed to find out if it's true that she was keeping messages from you, and why.
Talk to Jack. What did she know? What was she keeping from you?
Perform your duet with Eddie. You didn't know which of these things scared you the most.
After spending the afternoon with Eddie after your confrontation with Kelly, you learned more about what happened after you left Hawkins. He tried so hard to graduate, took him 2 attempts but finally did it in 86. You were more shocked to find out it was actually Steve who helped him graduate in the end. Dustin would go on and on at Eddie that Steve was a good guy. Obviously Eddie didn't believe him, but after a few trips to Family Video with Dustin, and Steve driving Dustin to The Hideout to go watch Eddie play, Eddie gave in and in his own words “I guess I couldn't accept the fact that Steve Harrington was actually a good dude”
You told him all about college, how you met Lula and Jack and how nervous you were about auditioning for them. He would sit there and listen to everything you said, never interrupting you. He would be resting his hand on your knee, or brushing a small piece of your hair behind your ear that had fallen. Everything felt so right, but you couldn’t shake the thought swimming around your head. The same things over and over again, mainly ‘why me?’
The show that evening couldn't have gone better. Opening up more to Eddie definitely helped but you just couldn't shift that feeling of betrayal from your mom.
You decided you were going to call her that night after the show. Eddie wanted to be with you when you did, but you told him it would be ok, but you would say hi to Dustin for him.
Staying in New York for a few days had its benefits. No more basic motels, no staying in the buses. The label had secured you a hotel a short drive away from the venue, which meant private cars to and from the venue, trying to avoid the crowds of fans you had seen lining up outside the venue early that afternoon, vying for the best spot.
After saying your goodbyes to everyone for the night you made your way into your hotel room. It wasn’t a large room, a twin bed situated in the middle with crisp white linens, a little folded towel at the end of the bed, which you think was meant to look like a Swan but a rather sad looking swan, its head had fallen down.
Checking the time before you dialled, not wanting to risk it being too late, you picked up the phone on the bedside table, laying back on the bed dialling your old home number.
“Good Evening Henderson residence” Dustin’s voice filtered through the receiver.
“Hey butthead!”
“Sis! Hey! Thought you were forgetting about me! Not heard from you since you got back after Christmas! Where are you? Why haven’t you called sooner? oh oh did you talk to Eddie?” Dustin blurted out.
“Woah, woah big guy, one question at a time! Look I called as I need to speak to mom about something, but hey you may know this too”
“This about Eddie?” Dustin's voice was quiet
“Yeah, look, remember you said he would ask you about me? Do you know anything about phone calls? Messages?” You kept your voice as level as you could not wanting to get angry at your little brother.
“Y/n/n, I think you need to talk to mom about this, I don’t know much but, yeah I believe he may have tried a few times” Dustin’s voice grew quieter as though he had his hand covering the bottom half of the phone.
Letting out a sigh through your nose, you could feel the betrayal wash over you. All this time wasted hating someone who didn’t deserve to be hated.
“Y/n? Are you still there?” Dustin's voice seems a million miles away, you were too focused on trying to control your anger.
Snapping back suddenly, blinking hard you suddenly realised you couldn’t do this right now, least of all over the phone.
“Hey, yeah yeah I’m still here, look I’m sorry I’m gonna have to go, it’s late and we got a big show tomorrow, look about you coming to see us, I’ll see what I can do yeah?” You couldn’t get the words out fast enough, you needed to get off the phone.
“Y/n/n, you sure you're ok? I can go get mom?”
Before you could let him answer his own question you shouted back.
“No! No, it’s ok, I’m ok, no, look Dusty I gotta go, I’m sorry, I love you little brother”
“I love you too y/n/n, say hi to Eddie for me?” You could tell in his tone he was worried, you hated to make him feel that way, but you couldn’t think of anything other than ending the call quickly.
“I will, bye Dusty” at that you hung up the phone with a bit more force than necessary, making the whole bedside table rattle.
Rolling over on the mattress you bury your head I’m into the plush pillow screaming your frustration out.
You needed to speak to your mom, you knew you did but not over the phone. She needed to see how hurt you were, needed to see what pain she put you through denying you the truth.
Pacing up and down your room you find yourself grabbing onto your blanket you brought in from the van and storming down the corridor, knocking furiously into the high gloss white door in front of you.
A flurry of messy curls came into view from the crack of the open door.
Eddie's face suddenly changed from joy to concern as he saw your tear stained face before him.
“Sweetheart, hey c’mere” his arms are suddenly pulling you into his embrace, ringed hand cradled the back of your head, your cheek pressed into his bare chest. You suddenly feel safe and warm. Your arms automatically wrap around his back, palms flat against his back holding him tight.
Your both stood in the doorway to his hotel room, saying nothing, just holding each other. Nothing needed to be said at that moment. He knew what you needed, knew you needed to be held, to feel cared for.
He didn't want to disturb you, move you from your position pressed against him, but he could hear you mumbling something into his chest.
“I couldn't do it, I ...I tried but I couldn't” your words came out in muffled sobs, your arms gripping to him tighter and tighter not wanting to leave his safe warm clutches.
Moving you into the room Eddies leads you over towards the bed in the centre of the room, sitting you down on the edge. Dropping to his knees in front of you, he looks up at you, brings a hand to rest on your face, his thumb lazily stroking your cheek brushing away the slow fall of your tears. “Did you speak to your mom? Is that why you're upset?” His voice was quiet as though he didn't want to spook you.
Stuttering you replied “I couldn't do it, I, I tried, Dustin, He, he said, he said, mom might know something, but I would have to speak with her, but, but, I, I couldn't do it. I was too scared to over the phone”
More sobs retched from your chest, you felt so small, pathetic. Any self worth you had disappeared. You couldn't comprehend that someone who supposedly loved you would keep happiness away from you.
All you wanted was the truth but you couldn't do it. You couldn't ask.
“Its ok sweetheart, shush, it's going to be ok, I'm here, i'm right here. I promise you i'm not going anywhere ok?” Eddie had risen from in front of you coming to sit next to you and wrapping his arms around your shoulders pulling you impossibly tight to him.
“Do you want to stay here tonight? I don't want you to be alone.” Eddies question was uncertain. He didn't want to cross over a line with you, only wanted to protect you. Show you how much you meant to him without pushing you too far when you were this fragile.
He hated seeing you like this. Wanted to protect you from everything and anyone who wanted to hurt you.
You were his. You were always his to him. He just hoped he would be yours too.
Nodding, you allowed him to menover you up onto the bed more, pulling your blanket over you and crawling into the space behind you, pulling your back to his chest. Resting his chin on your shoulder he would whisper sweet quiet affirmations into the shell of your ear, stroking your hip with his hand that was resting there.
Your breathing has started to calm, and you could feel sleep take over you. Melting into the plush white pillow beneath you, you didn't hear his last words to you before you drifted off into a deep sleep.
“I’ll always protect you, my love. Your mine to protect. I adore you”
* * * * * * * * * * *
You woke up to the sound of running water and soft singing drifting through the room. Feeling suddenly disoriented you had to take a moment to take in your surroundings.
A heavy weight surrounds you, which you discover is a huge white duvet with your blanket on top. The room looked the same as your hotel room, but set up in the opposite direction.
Looking around you see a guitar case resting against a chair in the corner of the room but a large window looking out onto the city.
It suddenly dawned on you, you were in Eddie's hotel room. Which would mean that it was Eddie in the shower. It was him singing, this thought made you smile and giggle to yourself throwing yourself back down into the plush bedding.
The bathroom door opens, with a flurry of steam, Eddies emerges, long wet hair dripping past his shoulders, white fluffy towel hanging low on his hips.
“Hey there sleepy head, how are you feeling today?” he asks as he sits on the edge of the bed next to you, leaning in to kiss your forehead, hair dripping into your face.
“EDDIE! STOP! You're dripping water on me!” You laugh trying to pull the duvet above your head to hide.
Climbing up more onto the bed Eddie starts pulling the covers down and brings you in for a big hug ignoring your shrieks of laughter.
“OK, Ok you win big boy!”
“Big boy?” Eddie pulls away from you a little to look at you laughing at your comment and smirk pulling across his lips.
“Yes Eds, and yeah I'm ok, thank you for looking after me last night. I felt so lost and perfetic I didn't want to be alone” shifting into a sitting position leaning against the headboard, you lift your knees up under your chin.
“I’ll always be here for you sweetheart” Eddie shifts his position to come sit next to you, adjusting the towel still wrapped around his waist.
Turning your head you look into Eddie's eyes, words were not needed right now, just a look spoke a thousand words.
Tonight was the night of the duet and to say you were nervous was an understatement. You'd spent the rest of the morning with Eddie in his hotel room, going over some notes you'd made about your performance and what needed work.
Rehearsals that afternoon were no better. You'd miss notes on the piano, your mic didn't work, you were starting to spiral and Eddie noticed.
“Sweetheart, look at me” Eddie came to sit next to you on the piano stool, reaching over and taking your hands into his. “Everything is going to be fine, I promise you” His thumb stocking across your knuckles to calm you.
The feeling in your gut isn't helping matters, but you looked up at him and nodded in agreement, giving him a small smile in return. The plan was for Paradox to perform as usual, introduce the boys and at the end of their set Eddie would talk to the crowd as the stage was reset for the duet. Watching Eddie interacting with the crowds always gave you joy. This is where he belonged, up on stage, entertaining hundreds if not thousands of people. You couldn't help but not be drawn to him.
This seemed to be the same for a small group of girls front and centre of the stage. Trying their best to grab his attention. Leaning so far forward across the barrier that and further they would topple over it. Tops incredibly low they left little to the imagination. And slim, proportions all in the right places, curves, where curves should be. You must have been staring hard as you jumped when you felt a small hand on your shoulder.
“You ok hun?” Lula followed your eye-line and let out an annoyed sigh at the sight of the girls, arms now reaching over trying to grab at any part of Eddie that they could.
“Don't worry about those girls y/n, He's only got eyes for you, that's obvious, hey I nearly had to beat down on a girl the other day for trying to touch Gare” This you could easily believe.
Jack had still been avoiding you since the blow up at rehearsals the other day, it wouldn't be a lie to say that you were too. Honestly you were lost at what to say to her. Yes you wanted to know the truth but never found the right time to do so, as everytime you would approach her she would run off in the opposite direction, or lock himself away in her hotel room. She was even avoiding Lula.
Looking across the stage from where you were standing in the wings, you saw Jack, guitar strap already around her shoulder, tuning up. You tried to catch her eye but got nothing. After the show you thought, after the show i will go and talk to her, just you and her. “So it looks like everything is ready behind me, so we have a little surprise for you all. You are the first to hear this!” Eddie's voice was booming over the speakers, it pulled you out of your daydream and your eyes met as he beconded you onto the stage, to stand next to him. “You all no doubt sawe the news in the papers last week that the girls of Paradox have gladly agreed to be a part of the family with us, so to celebrate this we decided to do a special performance for you together!” Eddie's arm was now tight around your waist keeping you close, which you noticed got the attention of the girls at the front of the audience. He could feel you tense up next to him and gave your sides a little squeeze.
You had decided to change from your previous outfit into something different for your duet. As you were mainly hiding behind a piano you thought you could try something a little different. Opting for your doc martens, a long black skirt, with a double buckle belt, and an old Sabbath tee you had, which Lula had “Altered” for you. By this she had cut a large v into the front, which in her words “accentuated the assets” and would “drive eddie crazy”
The latter seemed to be true, as he seemed to now not be able to take his eyes off your chest. Leaning in towards you away from his mic, he whispers “you look absolutely amazing sweetheart”
All of a sudden a loud giggle erupted from you and echoed around the venue.
The girls up front had faces of thunder but there were a few audible “awws”. “Right guys we hope you love this as much as we do! You ready Y/n, Eddie?” Gareth's voice cut through the noise of the audience, bringing you back.
Taking your seat behind the piano, you adjusted your mic. Taking a deep breath in you took a deep breath and gave the nod to the light tech, letting him know you were ready for the spotlights.
The performance couldn't have gone any better. Jack's acoustic intro, the lights, the audience's eruption to the recognition of the song gave you that confidence boost you needed most. Leaning into your mic you began to sing, you felt the world around you melt away and it felt like it was only you and Eddie on the stage. Singing to each other. No one else was there. No one could ruin this moment for you. All thoughts of your phone call home yesterday gone, the girls trying to get Eddie's attention gone, it was just you and him. Your confidence sawed the more into the song you got. Pushing your vocals to places you'd never gone to before. Eddie could see a change in you and couldn't stop beaming at you. He couldn't have done this with anyone else.
The lyrics spoke to you both, calling out to each other asking for answers, you ask if things will stay the same if you close your eyes forever. Will what you have with Eddie change now that you have expressed how you feel towards each other. The pain of love you were scared of. You didn't want to be hurt by him again. It also felt like a warning to him too, which you could see he fully understood.
“If I close my eyes forever
Will it all remain unchanged?
If I close my eyes forever
Will it all remain the same?” Eddie's voice ripped through you as he belted out his interpretation of Ozzy's lyrics. Your heart souring as you watched him perform, not once taking his eyes off you. You had only then noticed he didn't have his guitar with him. Frowning at him as it was getting close to his solo he gave you a wink and his toothy grin as he turned to the side of the stage arm out as a tech passed him his “sweetheart” a beautiful red and black coloured B.C Rich Warlock. Throwing the strap over his head he suddenly jumps on top of the grand piano you're playing, falling to his knees in front of you. Letting out a gasp of both astonishment and shock you couldn't keep your eyes off him. His knees parted so the body of his guitar was between his legs, his eyes squeezed shut playing his heart out. You watch as the muscles in his arms flex under his pale tattooed skin. Sweat beading under his bangs from being under the stage lights. His hips would lift slightly as he got more and more into the solo.
Having him this close to you, playing like this, basically thrusting in your face, had you flustered, nearly missing notes. Oh and he could tell he was having an effect on you.
This was his plan all along.
This wasn't a part of the rehearsal. No one knew he was going to do this. His plan worked too, he got the reaction he wanted from you.
“I know I've been so hard on you
I know I've told you lies
If I could have just one more wish
I'd wipe the cobwebs from my eyes”
You nearly missed your lyrics from staring at Eddie who was still atop the piano, playing a longer than usual reverb in your direction, locking his dark brown eyes with yours, the holes in his jeans staringin under the pressure of him being on his knees.
Nearing the end of the song he slides off the piano to the side, taking his guitar off carefully leaning it against the piano, to come and sit next to you on the stool to close off the song singing together.
Your head comes to lean on his shoulder, his arm coming to wrap around your waist, holding onto you tight, leaning into your mic to sing the last bars - “Close your eyes, Close your eyes. You gotta close your eyes for me”
The audience went crazy. Whoops, whistles, and hollering could be heard bouncing off the walls. You couldn't believe what just happened. You did it! But you didn't hear anything. Your full focus was on him. You couldn't take your eyes off him. His stupid grin looking back at you.
You launch towards him, throwing your arms tightly around his neck, laughing and crying at the same time.
“Hey babe, are you ok?” Eddie tried to pull you back to look at your face, his voice full of worry.
“Oh my god Eddie we did it! I'm honestly ok! This was the most insane thing! Thank you! Thank you so much” His use of the new pet name you didn't miss. It made the butterflies in your stomach stir violently, but gently, softy.
“Come with me” he grabs you by your hands, lifting you from the piano to the front of the stage where the rest of the band meet you.
Lula had jumped onto Gareth's back, holding onto him like a spider monkey, leaning forwards leaving big kisses on his cheeks for the world to see.
Flashes of light were suddenly blinding you from hundreds of press cameras, vying for the best photography. Eddie still had a tight grip of your hand, not wanting to lose you in the madness.
“Y/n, I couldn't have done this with anyone else. Thank you.” Eddies suddenly leans over and kisses you on the cheek, flash bulbs erupted again. But you didn't care. Not at that moment. You didn't know what would happen next but right now, you were on cloud 9.

a collection of viewing notes and highlights from Back to the Tutor because I don’t have the time to liveblog while watching but I do have thoughts
(seems fitting that today's viewing notes and highlights are from a women-led MMNI cast!!! 🙌🏽 Happy International Women's Day, babes!!! <;3)
ah yes, Back to the Tutor a.k.a. Dave's audition tape to be the next James Bond XD
jokes, what I mean is: ytg (yeah the girls) baybeeeee!!!!!!!!
ayo big ups to the cast on this one!!!!!! I was shocked to see so few people in the cast compared to other nights (pandemic times, amiright) but hot damn what a brilliant story they weaved together!!!!
listen, I am all for Laura Kirman and Lauren Shearing romcom supremacy my dudes (gender neutral)
their love story was so friggin sweet!!! their scene on the mini-golf course and the awkwardness afterwards was so accurate and so endearing!!
Laura seems like such a load of fun - her grandiose entrance and that note she hit??????? queen shit!!!!!! excited to see more of her shenanigans!!!
and Lauren plays endearing characters so well how can you not love her????? but she's also equally loveable when she's being cheeky and causing mischief lololol
Ellie trying to be mean was so funny to watch lolol
like, she really went from 0 to 100 when she insinuated that her character pushed a grandma down the stairs XDD
Anna (Laura): You're a nasty, nasty woman!
Louise (Ellie): *desperately trying to wrap up her story arc because it's almost the end of the movie* And I'm not gonna learn my lesson! :D
Dave is in absolutely fine form and yes, I mean that in all definitions XD Dave really said as the token male of the cast tonight, I will be playing the boytoy to be ogled at, and you all have full permission to address me as such lmaoooo we appreciate your sacrifice, sir o7 /half-joking
no but for real, the man has range!!!!!!!! we love to see it!!!!!
hypermasculine James Bond to flamboyant best friend/sidekick character???? that's ✨range✨ baby
Bryony does what she does best: play an elderly person XD if I had a dollar for every elderly person I've seen her play, I'd have two dollars. it's not much, but it is odd that it's happened twice lololol
an absolute cracker of a character!!! such sassy lines and brutal advice!!! 😂 her scenes with Hen (yes, a wild Henry Lewis appeared via Zoom!!!!! it was delightful!!!! he's bloody brilliant!!!!) were so friggin sweet too omg!!!! <3
and oh my days her character ending!!!!! 😭 also, she had so many good scenes??????? but like, all of them did!!!!!!!
actually, this whole movie hit all the emotional beats incredibly well, it was magic!!!!!!!
perhaps somewhat to the detriment of the cast, with Oscar/Jono breaking character twice as he keeps an eye on them 😅 (which, mind you, was very sweet to see)
we love that moment when everyone's trying to figure out what the scene should be, so no one's actually on stage XD
Bryony: *starts to run on stage as the camera cuts away*
Oscar: Pause! Pause! Pause! *head in hands*
*cut to Bryony, sprawled on the floor as if she's fallen down the 2 steps of the stage and Dave midway through entering the scene*
*cut back to Oscar*
Oscar/Jon, somewhat nervously as he cranes his head around to look at the stage: Are you ok, Bry?
*a beat*
Bryony, offstage and cool as you like: Yes.
Oscar: Ok, good! Yes, yes, we carry on the movie- we carry on the movie- I really worried then! I really thought that we got two minutes in- gotta change the cast, got another one down- but no! It's fine! It's fine!
there is one big downside to this movie, and that is the smoke machine- terrible scene partner, never expected in the scene, always coming in too strong, 0/10 performance lmaooo
Oscar: Pause. And I think we have enough time for a final moment of performance from Bertie, who's desperately trying to work out how to signal that he wants to speak.
Hen really said "I got this, fam" and proceeded to straight up just tell Bryony to leave the room LMAO
ayo also huge kudos to Yshani and Richard for sneaking Bond music in whenever Dave- sorry, James Bond was in the scene XD
Marcus (Dave): Sorry, gals, but I'm back, and I'm pretty tired now! Alright, here we go! *proceeds to lead everyone through a ridiculously Zumba/aerobics-esque high energy dance while still looking like the most energetic person in the room*
Oscar, laughing: Pause! What I love is that obviously, when there's a song, there's a really clear moment when the song ends and we know that the movie's over. But with a dance, it's much harder to find that moment! But they do find that moment, before- because Dave does look very tired!
Marcus, voice breaking halfway through the sentence: Don't you worry, gals, I've got plenty in the tank!
*cue the music getting faster and the dancing getting faster*
and then Dave does a freaking cartwheel on the spot XD (ngl, I rated it - perhaps not in technique but geez the man has springs in his limbs lol)

The Warp Effect Ep 5 Stray Thoughts
This is one of the best things airing right now, and it's unfortunate that many BL fans are going to skip it for not being BL.
Last time, I reached a higher plane when Army gave Joe a handy to completion in a school locker room, after reuniting because Army refused to have sex with a minor. Nim decided to get pregnant for her girlfriend, and demanded Alex be the donor. Nim and Alex learned of Eiw's kink, and Sing was the saddest boy ever at no one understanding him. Mollie auditioned for Jean's show and killed it. Jean and Kat bonded at the pool (and Gigie teased us about their sapphic potential on socials). Ice and Kim had a healthy conversation about penis size and the desired outcome of an intimate encounter that was super well done.
Yeah, there's a lot happening in this show.
Yes, Army, let's revisit your gay little box of memories to a funky song.
Oh ho. Army has a magic picture as well.
We're not going to tackle the ethics of Alex continuing to practice medicine, and instead I'm just going to appreciate that he seems to be taking his job seriously and learning offscreen. Besides, it's kind of amazing that this show just totally dunked on blaming women for queefs.
Nothing but respect for Jojo having a gay character be pissed about straight men's presumptions about them.
Really appreciate that characters in this show aren't stupid. Army has known something weird has been going on and called it out.
Totally get Army bonding with Alex if he has such a difficult time when he came out, especially if that was also when he hurt Joe.
Gigie really is just so pretty. I'm enjoying her playing with Fah.
So many GMMTV regulars are in this show.
Jean is so correct. Everyone should have a bat.
There's a significant amount of masturbation in this show. Jojo is shoving the Overton window as hard as he can.
Alex's current dysfunction also presents a specific challenge for Nim since she wants him to be the donor.
This show would be so different if Jean's glares could kill. This director of photography is wrong, and I feel like this is a conversation Jojo has been through repeatedly in his work.
I am so emotionally invested in Mollie. I need them to succeed so badly.
Nim really out here starting beef with children.
Nim seems to like her girlfriends to have blonde hair.
Love Kat so much. She always manages expectations with her partners.
Liu and See-ew are so fascinating. You see Ew trying to say and do the things he feels he's supposed to as a boyfriend, and yet he needs an outlet for this desire.
I trust Jojo to demolish this photographer, and to not force me to watch Mollie self harm.
Silvy is really doing such a phenomenal job in this restrained breakdown.
Oh no, Alex. You were doing such a good job. Don't make it about you.
It's a small thing, but I do like that Mollie says it's the feminine aspects she likes in Alex.
Silvy got me out here emotional in the middle of the day.
Kinda wish Alex had recorded the DP, but I'll take this.
Well, that's one problem solved.
Ah, we're finally unpacking the past next week.

WARNING: Fatphobia
~~~~~~~~~~
She’d always dreamed of getting to this point but it never fully occurred to her that it could actually happen. At long last, Triple Threat finally landed a role on Bridleway! The Equine King was one of the most popular and long-running shows so this was a huge deal. This would finally be her big break!
But when she actually got the cast list, what was once the most exciting moment of her life quickly became the most crushing.
She’d auditioned for Neighla. The love interest. One of the leads! The assistant director AND the choreographer said she was a shoe-in, she heard. TT was sure she’d get the role. But that wasn’t what she got.
The warthog. The fat, farting, fat, FAT comedic relief. That was the role she got. TT was seeing red. She’d given her all but no matter how hard she worked, she was always reduced to her size. Like her talent didn’t matter.
“Mr. Overture?”
TT knocked on the director’s office door, struggling to swallow down the nervous lump in her throat. She had to talk to him, she had to know why…well, she already knew. But still, she couldn’t just let it slide. Not this time.
“Come in.”
The young mare walked in slowly at his beckoning, trying not to spill her coffee in her shaking magical grasp. It was frowned upon to challenge a director about their casting choices, especially a Bridleway director of all ponies. This was her first role too, so who knew what this could do to what little reputation she had.
“What did you want to speak with me about?”
Overcast Overture was staring her down from across the table which did nothing to help her nerves.
“Oh! Um, I just wanted to, well, talk about the cast. I…I just have a few questions about it.”
“Such as?”
The director withdrew the cast list from a folder, but he hardly needed it. He knew exactly which part he’d given her.
“I guess I’d like to know, uh, why you gave me this part? I mean, comedic roles really aren’t my strong suit at all. I auditioned for Neighla which is, like, the opposite kind of role, so I was wondering what you saw—“
“Are you saying the mare who got Neighla doesn’t deserve the role?”
“No, no!”
TT became defensive, but she meant it. Some of the other cast members said that the mare who played Neighla underperformed at her audition, but she didn’t like to think like that at all. She was probably just having an off day, surely she was just as talented and deserving.
“You know you can’t bribe your way into the lead. Lots have tried it, they never succeed.”
“No sir, I would never. I just…”
She gripped her coffee hard between her hooves, mustering up the courage to say what she really wanted to.
“I can’t help but wonder if I got this role because…because of my size. I’ve tried but I honestly can’t think of any other reason why. I’ve gotten a lot of roles like this in past shows, and well…”
TT was about to take a huge risk with what she was about to ask next.
“Is it possible…if there’s an opening, I mean, if I could get another role? Even just an understudy, or a backup singer, or a really really minor role…”
“I gave you this role because I thought you were the best fit for it. I will not change it just because you asked. If you were truly professional you wouldn’t even think of it.”
TT wanted to absolutely melt in shame as the director stared her down sternly. She tried to hard to be a gracious actress but now she felt like the most ungrateful pony in the world. Even if she had good reason to be.
Then the director chuckled.
“Frankly, you should be happy you even got a role at all. But the choice is yours, take it or leave it. You’d better decide before rehearsals.”
“Well…in that case…”
TT was fighting back tears as she prepared to make the hardest decision of her career so far. But she needed to put her hoof down.
“I don’t want it. I’m not gonna take another fat role like this! I can’t let ponies keep ignoring everything else I could bring to a role just because you think I’m the wrong size! I…I quit!”
With that, she left the director’s office before he could get another word in.
This would be the last time she set hoof on Bridleway for awhile.
6.A cradle is an art- 2051
7.Work from Home-4644
8.Regret is an art- 2387
9. Seashore sight is an art- 3426 words.
Let's come to my favourites.Honestly , they are like my children🥺. But let's see
1. A Cradle is an art
A sweet fluffy husbands! And daddies! Klaine one shot. I loved writing Kurt holding their baby daughter, Charity. Just the feel of skin to skin contact. Uggh...
2.The Paris Of My Childhood
This one single handedly saved me from depression in the 45 days study holiday for University exams. And my first betaed work by the amazing @1908jmd. Honestly, she owns half of the story. Wizards! Klaine. More of hurt/comfort. I loved when Blaine finally lets Kurt into his magic suitcase by trusting him.
3. Regret is an Art
Another hurt/comfort one. But I love that they have husbands talk. Kurt draws future Blaine holding a baby!
4.Seashore sight is an art
Teenage! Klaine. First meet fic. Blaine saves Kurt from sea and he gives him a pencil art of Kurt.
5.Juliet's Boudair
I hated when they made fun of Kurt's Romeo audition. Like someone! You don't insult somebody like this even if they don't fit the role. So I wrote a one shot with Blaine trying to prove he could be a Romeo. @caramelcoffeeaddict helped me with the actual Juliet's Boudair scene from the "Romeo and Juliet". I used the excerpt.
6.Work from home
This is embarrassing. I made Blaine dress like Hedwig "from the hedwig musical" and made him sexy dance to "Work from home" by Fifth harmony. Turned on husbands traumatized Brittana's dog and next is a drama with some good news in the end.
7. Living Haphazard
My first completed long fic. I don't want to rate this low but I like others better. British boy Kurt rents an apartment in the states for a fashion competition and gets a rival roommate with that. Both of them don't know that the broker was a cheat and ends up living together and looove❤️
8. Happening the mishap and happening.
Weird title. I know. Not exactly Klaine oneshots. Kurtana and Blam friendships.
Kurtana : canon divergent of the puc episode.
Blam: go to disneyland and it's a daddy ditch day!
9. One step closer
I honestly loved this story. But I need to mend and fix the grammar. I don't know how this story is going. But many like this. I don't know why. High school Klaine story.
There you go!
All done.
But I am grateful to the readers who gave my stories a chance and read them. I appreciate them so much. Virtual bow down and hugs.
I am tagging @quizasvivamos, @bitbybitwrites, @1908jmd ,@little-escapist, @hkvoyage .
Ignore if you have already been tagged!
An old AU plot I had for a SVTFOE fanfic that never got off the ground:
Star gets sent to St. Olga’s and gets completely brainwashed into being a proper princess. Upon being sent home, Moon almost instantly notices something’s horribly wrong with her daughter (she’s a flawed mom, but she genuinely cares for Star after all), and decides to pay Miss Heinous a visit, first as the Queen and then undercover as a younger version of herself. There, she quickly finds out the dark reality behind the so-called “school” and narrowly escapes brainwashing herself when the MHC storms the institution; Moon goes Butterfly mode and proceeds to utterly wreck the place. In the aftermath, the horrified and guilt-stricken Queen finally decides to take Glossaryck’s advice and send Star to Earth—after extensive auditing, not wanting a repeat of her daughter’s traumatic experience.
Here, Marco enters the storyline as per canon: he’s called to the principal and introduced to Star, with some minor differences—none of the chaos of their first encounter, Marco brings the Butterflies to the house himself after being thoroughly notified of the princess’s troubled history, and an attempt by Ludo to steal the wand is instantly curb-stomped by the legendary Queen’s magical wrath. The latter incident nearly pushes Moon into just bringing Star back and personally overseeing her training, but witnessing Marco’s physical prowess eventually convinces her to letting her daughter stay; that said, the queen gives our misunderstood bad boy a long and serious talk in the Diaz house regarding his responsibilities with Star (with not-so-subtle implications of a long and painful death should he try anything with her daughter), which the terrified teen quickly agrees to. Moon also arranges for additional backup to provide training for Star’s new companion in the form of two additional squires to live with the Diazes—
(Kelly and Higgs have entered the chat)
Magical shenanigans ensue with Star’s spells often going haywire or cultural misunderstandings from the squires causing widespread disruption throughout Echo Creek. Moon visits Earth every week to check up on her daughter, her visits creating their own brand of chaos for everyone involved. Eventually Tom himself shows up for the Blood Moon Ball, but himself is visibly dismayed by the extent of Miss Heinous’s brainwashing and decides to bring Star’s companions along and just let his ex have fun at the event instead of forcibly bonding himself to her—Season 3’s shown that he genuinely cares for Star, so why not let that part of him show as well? Surprisingly, it’s Tom, Star, and Marco who get bonded by the Blood Moon this time; none of them are sure why that happened, and all parties return to their respective homes deep in thought.
The very next day, Tom shows up on Marco’s doorstep as Echo Creek’s newest exchange student. The latter is visibly nonplussed by the unexpected turn of events, but lets him in anyway.
More fun and adventures occur—Tom’s odd administrative duties as Prince of the Underworld (guest appearances from Janna who bonds with the demon), Hekapoo shows up and offers to grant Marco dimensional scissors in exchange for seven minutes in the Neverzone, Higgs and Kelly take the lead in the dimensional travails that ensue, some minor “friendly” rivalry between Marco and Tom over who’s the “better friend,” a budding friendship between Jackie and Marco begins (the Jarco date happens, but both eventually agree they aren’t cut out to be a couple just yet), and Star slowly, gradually starts to get her old self back. As five women now frequent the Diaz household (H-Poo notwithstanding), Marco Harem jokes become popular much to his dismay—no thanks initially to Tom, who eventually stops after realising to his horror that he himself somehow ended up becoming a potential member. Starco? Everyone from the parents to the “harem members” have their suspicions, but it’s a slow burn—Marco respects Star’s boundaries too much to try anything, and Star herself hasn’t seemed to said anything (not that she says much, either way).
And as for Star? In her mind, it’s pretty clear—if Janna and Jackie don’t claim their crushes for themselves, she’s going to bag Tom and Marco both if it’s the last thing she does. After all, who says she can’t have a harem of her own?
REPOST: @rhodesreed (IG)
@rhodesreed: A week ago this happened. It's taken me this long to process this moment in time. March of 2020 @adamjlevy and I were quarantining in Temecula CA (aka paradise) thanks to @iamsusanegan. We had no idea a weekend away would turn in to 3 months. During that time one of my already besties became my family. Adam has been a rock in my life since our very first @bwayprincesspty together! While we quarantined together he introduced me to @tylerlogan31 (now a bestie) who happened to mention he was cast in the @moulinrougebway touring company. I had been in final callbacks only weeks earlier but was on pause bc of Covid. The boys made me do my "diamonds" audition for them and so I did 💎😝 Also during that time helped put Adam on tape for Christian (Adam did you ever submit that tape?). All of this to say... if you can imagine how surreal going on with your best friend in our dream roles was? First the Duke and then on his last day with us... Christian for his very first time! His entire family was there to witness the magic and even @brauhala got to see his Duke! This post is now a novel but it's hard to put in writing what this day a week ago was to me. @adamjlevy love you to the moon and back! Can't wait to do this 100 more times together!
Seven Sets of Siblings
I just finished watching a drama loosely related to Little Women and it had me thinking about siblings and the complicated ways that we sometimes relate. Being connected to each other in that particular way can have all kinds of effects on us. Here are a few books that explore sibling relationships in interesting ways.
So Many Beginnings: A Little Women Remix by Bethany C. Morrow Feiwel Friends [Crystal's Review]
North Carolina, 1863. As the American Civil War rages on, the Freedmen's Colony of Roanoke Island is blossoming, a haven for the recently emancipated. Black people have begun building a community of their own, a refuge from the shadow of the old life. It is where the March family has finally been able to safely put down roots with four young daughters:
Meg, a teacher who longs to find love and start a family of her own.
Jo, a writer whose words are too powerful to be contained.
Beth, a talented seamstress searching for a higher purpose.
Amy, a dancer eager to explore life outside her family's home.
As the four March sisters come into their own as independent young women, they will face first love, health struggles, heartbreak, and new horizons. But they will face it all together.
Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers
Valora Luck has two things: a ticket for the biggest and most luxurious ocean liner in the world, and a dream of leaving England behind and making a life for herself as a circus performer in New York. Much to her surprise, though, she's turned away at the gangway; apparently, Chinese people aren't allowed into America.
But Val has to get on that ship. Her twin brother, Jamie, who has spent two long years at sea, is on board, as is an influential circus owner. Thankfully, there's not much a trained acrobat like Val can't overcome when she puts her mind to it.
As a stowaway, Val should keep her head down and stay out of sight. But the clock is ticking and she has just seven days as the ship makes its way across the Atlantic to find Jamie, audition for the circus owner, and convince him to help get them both into America.
Then one night, the unthinkable happens, and suddenly Val's dreams of a new life are crushed under the weight of the only thing that matters: survival.
Tigers Not Daughters by Samantha Mabry Algonquin Young Readers [Q & A with Author]
The Torres sisters dream of escape. Escape from their needy and despotic widowed father, and from their San Antonio neighborhood, full of old San Antonio families and all the traditions and expectations that go along with them. In the summer after her senior year of high school, Ana, the oldest sister, falls to her death from her bedroom window. A year later, her three younger sisters, Jessica, Iridian, and Rosa, are still consumed by grief and haunted by their sister’s memory. Their dream of leaving Southtown now seems out of reach. But then strange things start happening around the house: mysterious laughter, mysterious shadows, mysterious writing on the walls. The sisters begin to wonder if Ana really is haunting them, trying to send them a message—and what exactly she’s trying to say.
In a stunning follow-up to her National Book Award–longlisted novel All the Wind in the World, Samantha Mabry weaves an aching, magical novel that is one part family drama, one part ghost story, and one part love story.
Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers [Crystal's Review]
Jayne Baek is barely getting by. She shuffles through fashion school, saddled with a deadbeat boyfriend, clout-chasing friends, and a wretched eating disorder that she’s not fully ready to confront. But that’s New York City, right? At least she isn’t in Texas anymore, and is finally living in a city that feels right for her.
On the other hand, her sister June is dazzlingly rich with a high-flying finance job and a massive apartment. Unlike Jayne, June has never struggled a day in her life. Until she’s diagnosed with uterine cancer.
Suddenly, these estranged sisters who have nothing in common are living together. Because sisterly obligations are kind of important when one of you is dying.
Little and Lion by Brandy Colbert Little, Brown [K. Imani's Review]
When Suzette comes home to Los Angeles from her boarding school in New England, she isn't sure if she'll ever want to go back. L.A. is where her friends and family are (along with her crush, Emil). And her stepbrother, Lionel, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, needs her emotional support.
But as she settles into her old life, Suzette finds herself falling for someone new...the same girl her brother is in love with. When Lionel's disorder spirals out of control, Suzette is forced to confront her past mistakes and find a way to help her brother before he hurts himself--or worse.
Travelers Along the Way: A Robin Hood Remix by Aminah Mae Safi Feiwel and Friends [Crystal's Review]
Jerusalem, 1192. The Third Crusade rages on. Rahma al-Hud loyally followed her elder sister Zeena into the war over the Holy Land, but now that the Faranji invaders have gotten reinforcements from Richard the Lionheart, all she wants to do is get herself and her sister home alive.
But Zeena, a soldier of honor at heart, refuses to give up the fight while Jerusalem remains in danger of falling back into the hands of the false Queen Isabella. And so, Rahma has no choice but to take on one final mission with her sister.
On their journey to Jerusalem, Rahma and Zeena come across a motley collection of fellow travelers—including a softspoken Mongolian warrior, an eccentric Andalusian scientist, a frustratingly handsome spy with a connection to Rahma's childhood, and an unfortunate English chaplain abandoned behind enemy lines. The teens all find solace, purpose and camaraderie—as well as a healthy bit of mischief—in each other's company.
But their travels soon bring them into the orbit of Queen Isabella herself, whose plans to re-seize power in Jerusalem would only guarantee further war and strife in the Holy Land for years to come. And so it falls to the merry band of misfits to use every scrap of cunning and wit (and not a small amount of thievery) to foil the usurper queen and perhaps finally restore peace to the land.
The Ones We're Meant to Find by Joan He Roaring Brook
Cee has been trapped on an abandoned island for three years without any recollection of how she arrived, or memories from her life prior. All she knows is that somewhere out there, beyond the horizon, she has a sister named Kay, and it’s up to Cee to cross the ocean and find her.
In a world apart, 16-year-old STEM prodigy Kasey Mizuhara lives in an eco-city built for people who protected the planet―and now need protecting from it. With natural disasters on the rise due to climate change, eco-cities provide clean air, water, and shelter. Their residents, in exchange, must spend at least a third of their time in stasis pods, conducting business virtually whenever possible to reduce their environmental footprint. While Kasey, an introvert and loner, doesn’t mind the lifestyle, her sister Celia hated it. Popular and lovable, Celia much preferred the outside world. But no one could have predicted that Celia would take a boat out to sea, never to return.
Now it’s been three months since Celia’s disappearance, and Kasey has given up hope. Logic says that her sister must be dead. But nevertheless, she decides to retrace Celia’s last steps. Where they’ll lead her, she does not know. Her sister was full of secrets. But Kasey has a secret of her own.
The Message
A.N: My Twst Yuu Oc Mia accompanying Deuce, Ace and Grim to their audition and getting the message afterwords in Book five
Twisted Wonderland Masterlist————————————————————————
Mia watched as Deuce began to pace as the auditions started. As it got closer and closer to the time, he began to get more agitated.
Finally, Mia stepped in his way, “Relax, Deuce. Breathe, okay! Just go in and give it your best!”
“I’m trying, but I fear I’ll forget everything I’ve learned!”
“You really need to calm down!” Ace groused.
Grim had no fear, “I just want to get there and dazzle them!”
Mia gave them a warning glare before gripping Deuce by the shoulders to hold him still, “Calm down! Come on, breathe with me. In…out…In...”
Deuce tried to copy Mia, and eventually they were both breathing in sync and calmly. Deuce found his nerves had settled a little bit.
“Better?” she asked soothingly.
Deuce smiled gratefully, “Yes, thank you.”
Mia shook her head as she released him just as their group was called. She gave them one final word of encouragement, “You guys can do!!”
Mia walked over to the corner of the room and Vil raised an eyebrow, “You aren’t getting into formation?”
“Non, non. She is their cheerleader!” Rook supplied.
Vil gave a disapproving look, “So she’s not actually auditioning? Then why you did add her and let her come in?”
“How could I not when it’s clear that Mademoiselle is their lifeline of support? It is most beauteous! Tres magnifique! To deny them the chance to bring out their full potential? I could never, as le Chasseur d’Amour!”
“Okay…” Vil spoke, effectively cutting Rook off, “Let’s get the audition underway, shall we?”
After the audition, the group was walking back to the Hall of Mirrors after finding out they would have to wait until the next day to find out the results. Ace and Deuce were going back to their dorm, so they would have to part there.
Deuce turned to Mia with a smile, “Well, whatever happens, thank you for coming along with us. I know you didn’t dance, but I, for one, am grateful to have had you there!”
“Why are you tying to make me seem ungrateful!” Ace gave Deuce a dirty look before smiling at Mia, “Mia, I too was happy for your support!”
Mia only waved it away, “It’s fine! It’s the least I can do!”
Grim preened, “Yes, for helping this Great Grim, when I make it big, I will grant you an enormous reward!”
Ace mocked gasped, “What you gonna break into your tuna money?”
After another round of arguments, Mia and Grim went back to Ramshackle dorm. Even though she didn’t perform, she couldn’t deny she was nervous for them. But realistically, they were going up against some top talent, like Epel and that is to say nothing of Jamil and Kalim but hey, stranger things did happen.
And happen they did in the form of an arrow message.
Not only did Ace and Deuce pass, they wanted her to come along because there was a message for her.
Mia knew something was wrong the moment Headmage Crowley magically appeared in the room. She could feel her blood pressure rising in anticipation. It’s never good to see him.
Everyone was shocked at the idea of a training camp, that apparently was to take place at Ramshackle Dorm.
“I’m sorry, what?” she asked after hearing the latest news.
“Headmage, why would we need to stay together at training camp when it’s already on campus? We all have our own dorms.” Jamil asked.
“It’s a team-building exercise.” Headmage explained, “You come from different dorms, different class years, different birthplaces, different cultures. It’s my hope that living together will help you foster a greater sense of camaraderie.”
“It’s true that first-rate music groups eat at the same table and sleep under the same roof to build support.” Vil added.
Mia barely heard the conversation as a sense of panic was beginning to well up. Thank the Seven, Grim was against the idea. But for very different reasons than she.
Aaaaand that didn’t last long.
He was, once again, taken by the money he could use to buy tuna. And even if Headmage was adding a plumbing overhaul, that still didn’t address the issue welling in Mia’s heart.
Soon, she began to absently shake her head.
Grim was pawing at her, “What is your take on this, Mia? Think about my tuna!! And aren’t you always complaining about the issues like plumbing. This is a winning deal!!”
Mia finally found her voice, “Wait a minute, hold on!! You want me to live with a bunch of boys?”
Headmage blinked before it suddenly dawned on him, and his eyes widened. Suddenly it dawned on the other boys as well. Unless times like these appeared, they often forgot that Mia was the only girl on campus. And these kinds of times were few and far in between.
Jamil thought that perhaps, Headmage had broken because he was silent a long moment. Even the great Vil had wide eyes, along with Rook and Epel. Kalim had gone blessedly silent, while Deuce and Ace both had slack jaws.
Jamil swore he heard the Headmage gulp as he swallowed and finally found his voice, “I…I had quite forgotten your unique situation.”
Jamil was careful not to let his inner thoughts show. How’d he, of all people, forget? As headmage, he should be more responsible than this!!
“Wait, we shouldn’t do this if it makes Mia uncomfortable.”
Kalim was actually saying something that contributed to the situation.
Jamil blinked.
Epel looked on worriedly, “Yes, I agree.”
Silence stretched….
“Then we should look into other methods.” Headmage stated.
“Such as?” Vil asked.
“Based on what you said, we were the last method. Am I wrong?” asked Mia was slowly beginning to calm down.
“Not in the least, but we can find other methods.” Headmage asked.
“Let me think…” Mia turned her back to them, holding the sides of her head and squatting on her haunches.
Was she talking to herself? Rook smirked. How interesting! No one dared to say anything. They couldn’t hear what she was saying, were they actually words? But only hearing her low murmur.
Finally, they heard her clear as day, “If my momma and poppa saw this, they’d kill me!”
She stood and turned back to them. She straightened her jacket and lifted her chin, “I suppose, desperate times call for desperate measures. I’m sure I can get uncle ghosts to guard my room. If any of you boys, try anything, so help me, I don’t have magic, but I can swing a knife. I will cut a fool.”
The boys gulped. Vil just raised an eyebrow, refusing to be cowed. He knew he would not be interested in such base pleasures.
Then she gave a plastic smile, “Other than that, sure…since we are pressed for time.”
“Perhaps, I should pay extra for Nurse Annabelle to stay with you.” Headmage offered.
“No need and she can’t be around 24/7. But I wouldn’t mind her checking up every once in awhile. Keep these boys on the correct.” Mia gave them a hard glare.
Rook spoke, “I think I speak for all of us, when I say, no one here would dare pull anything!”
“They’ll be too busy otherwise!” was Vil’s dark promise.
What was Mia’s life? She sighed. She supposed, this was where her life was at right now.
Bonus
All Headmage Crowley could hear was the sound of the baton being repeatedly slammed agaisnt Professor Crewel’s hand. He barely managed to suppress a gulp as he watched the baton.
“What. Were. You. Thinking?!” Professor Crewel managed to ground out.
“In my defense, I forgot. I forgot about Mia’s unqiue situation.”
Professor’s Crewel’s smoky eyeshadow was not helping his glare any, “Being magicless or being the only female on campus?”
“...”
“And you want our only female to live with a bunch of boys? Have you lost your mind?”
“Mia was gracious enough allow it. She must be learning quite a bit about kindness from me.” Headmage Crowley preened momentarily forgetting his predicment.
Professor Crewel slammed his baton against his hand quite forcefully that time, “I will be taking it upon myself to check in regularly. So help me, if Mia complains about these boys and says they did anything to her.....”
He let the threat hang as he bared his teeth.
Headmage Crowley gulped and almost breathed as Professor Crewel turned away from him, just his office door slammed open.
Nurse Annabelle was a tiger hybrid, hired exclusively as Mia Anderson’s nurse, through the recommendation of Professor Crewel,
She raised her claws up, “You!!”
Professor Crewel just calmly got out of the way.
She marched to the desk and slammed her hands down, making Headmage jump and cower, “How dare you?! If these boys do anything, and I mean anything, to make her uncomfortable, I will shred all of you to pieces!! Trust and believe I too, shall make periodical visits to make sure nothing untoward is happening.”
Maybe this wasn’t the best idea but Headmage could only pray that everything would work out.
Hey so feeling a lil bored and I think I'm gonna do some dsmp writing requests!!
Send in an ask, give me a lil prompt of an au or smth (this can include asking for snippets of my own aus, which I will list).
Anyways the aus of mine you can ask about:
ccc!au, basically character content creator, modern dsmp au where the events are all the same except it's 1. a modern au and 2. they're all content creators at some point and have access to social media. they all drop merch at dream's funeral. This is a crack au.
smash or pass au, where quackity is the onceler, dream has the hots for him still, quackity/dream/wilbur was once a thing but now they're bitter exes and wilbur takes joy in terrorising dream. Also quackbur happens at one point as well as the onceler reveal. It's also a crack au.
clue #1, a murder mystery powers au where wilbur is dead, techno is a retired detective, ranboo is an annoying ghost and clingyduo are investigating wilbur's death. you can have a couple snippets from chapter 1 since this is an unreleased multichap fic au.
silence and the sun, a canon-divergent au inspired by the dead don't dream. dream and tommy are brothers, tommy has a bad time being revived over and over (he's also selectively mute), and shit gets out of hand. My personal contender for the dream worsening olympics.
pig house au, basically an owl house au where techno is a wild witch known across the isles, ranboo is the human who's stumbled into his life, discduo is just belos and hunter, aimsey and tubbo are ranboos besties at magic school, wilbur is techno's estranged brother from the emperor's coven and phil shows up at techno's door one day with an injured kid who may or may not be grimmwalker.
communal dad au, in which phil adopted three kids who are also actors, none of them know about the others and therefore when he comes on the set they all work at to audition for the dad of their three characters, some funny stuff happens. like Neapolitan bros realising they're all actually brothers, and everyone on set joking about how phil is secretly their dad.
universal tommy au, in which tommy is a multiversal traveller, goes by theseus and wears a boar mask, and ends up stuck in a universe with regular multiversal and timeline traffic, including an ex-traveller wilbur who set up lmanberg, sometime after doomsday should have happened, to accommodate travellers. I don't have much for this but I like the concept.
and the final au: iceborne au, based on monster hunter, in which tommy is the new rising hunter in the fifth fleet of the research commission, dream is a bitch who wants to wipe out the ecosystems by using other monsters because he's a bitch but it's okay he has a giant ice dragon pet, and they're all having a time trying to fix the ecosystem.
Writober 22 - Autumn/Fall(1)
Original fiction - Lights Music Magic
Summary: Fall has come to Symphon once again, and with it starts the routine of qualifying for the Harvest Fest. Holly Silverstone knows better than anyone that she doesn’t have a chance in hell, but she finds herself signing up anyway. Why? Fuck if she knows, and honestly fuck if she cares.
One thing’s for sure... the universe is down for her trying. So she’s going to put whatever’s left in her for one final shot at a dream that should have died a long time ago. What’s the worst that could happen?
---
For once, Holly got up before noon on a day she didn’t have work.
Maybe she should have taken it as a sign as she found herself staring up at the ceiling, blank faced and picking out the shiny pieces of tape she hadn’t removed years ago. It was catching the early morning sun in a way it normally didn’t when she got up, reminding her that the world was indeed a weird place.
Her back ached as she sat up, rubbing her eyes and yawning. The house was quiet – her mother and brother were both at work. That meant she had the place to herself as she managed to get out of bed, knee aching as she stood.
So far, her ache count was somewhat low. Maybe that was what happened when she got up early.
Yawning, she found herself in the kitchen with a can of soda and an empty head as she scrolled her feed. The great thing about not having friends was that she didn’t catch any drama on her feed, but the downside was that things got boring fast. That morning, she was facing the latter as she scrolled right down to what she had been reading the night before.
Harvest Fest Auditions
Seeking applications for the feeder round of the capital’s district competition. Interested parties can apply at the Well for the upcoming open mic. The best three will go on to the district round of the Harvest Fest.
“Huh… guess it’s that time again…” Holly frowned as she glanced out the kitchen window. It didn’t look like fall yet to her thanks to the fact the leaves on the tree were still green. She had to note it didn’t feel that way either – usually by late fall, she got tired easily and sought her bed more often than not. It was still summer in her mind, which meant that thinking ahead to the country’s biggest competition just felt wrong.
Then again, she didn’t tend to think ahead… that was probably why she was in the state she was in.
The half-elf stared down at her phone screen, a frown still deep on her face. It was the last day for applicants if she was counting right, which meant if she got dressed and headed out she could still make it in. That would leave her a couple weeks to get a song ready, practice it, and prepare for the judging.
“Do I want to do it?”
What little logic she had in her brain said no. After all, the judges hated her at the Well. More than that, she had never placed better than 4th, and that had been years ago. At best, she could graze the top ten and be left clenching her fist behind stage as she watched the winners go on to represent their little group at the district. Sometimes, they even got further… but usually they never made it to the finals. Hell if she could remember the last time somebody had won from the Well round.
More importantly, was she in the mood to get judged by people she hated and who shared the same feelings?
Truly, Holly wanted to say no. There was only so much frustration she could take those days, and the amount was decreasing with each meeting. Her tank felt empty as she sat there, staring down at her can of soda in her quiet kitchen. Maybe it would just be better to forget the whole thing and just go back to bed…
But she didn’t
“Come on, damn it, you know how this is going to end.” She groaned and ran a hand through her hair, wincing as she caught a knot in the process. It took her some time to work it out, but she did. “You’re going to get up there, look like an idiot, and then watch someone else win. Besides, you can’t do magic… the next round would destroy you.”
Holly knew that better than anyone after watching round after round of Harvest Fest while growing up. Only magic users made it to the finals and got countless people tuning in to watch them sing for the country. Everyone else got pushed to the wayside, even if they were better musicians and had more interesting songs.
It… pissed her off honestly.
“No. You barely have a song…”
Yet the half-elf knew as she stared down at the table and her can of soda that she wasn’t going to be able to turn it down. Something deep inside her was making her want to get up and go down to apply. Worst of all, that part was in control of her body, making her get out of her seat and head back to her room to change clothes.
A tired face stared back at her in the mirror once she was done. Even Holly could tell she looked bad as she adjusted her jacket and did her best to put her hair in order. If someone had called her the walking dead, she really couldn’t have argued about it. Maybe scared them a little, but that wasn’t exactly an effective debate strategy.
She was lucky if she wasn’t about to be laughed off stage for even thinking to apply.
“This is so fucking stupid…” Holly sighed as she shook her head, grabbing for her bag. “Why am I even doing this?”
Spite, maybe? Didn’t feel right as she locked the door behind her and headed for the bus stop. Spite had its own feel, a hot bubbling in her stomach that helped her get back on her feet when the universe kept punching down. It certainly wasn’t confidence – that had run out before high school had even finished. Honestly, she wasn’t sure why.
But whatever it was, that fucker was strong. It made her get on the bus and go down to the Well, where a few people were waiting in line to register outside. Holly knew most of them, had gone up against every single one of them at one time or the other. Most of them ignored her, preferring to focus on getting their names down. In a weird way, she was glad for that as she sidled in.
It also pissed her off a little, mostly because she hated everyone there and could only hope the feeling was mutual.
Focused on that, the line went quickly. Before long, Holly was at the front. Much to her displeasure, she knew the human at the front. The Well had employed one of its standing judges to take applications, and they had for some reason selected the one that hated her.
The universe clearly hated her, and this was the sign.
“I guess you didn’t learn from the last time you did this.” The woman watched as she scribbled her name down. “What did you even place last year, 12th?”
Holly shot her a look as she finished. “9th.”
“My mistake, you think it would be hard to forget someone like you.” The scorn dripped from her lips. “Should I assume you’re going to go on solo and without any magical accompaniment to your set?”
Well, unless she somehow suddenly gained magic during her set…
The judge took her silence as an answer and shook her head. “You’re ridiculous. If you had any brain at all, you’d stick to recording for YouTube or whatever mundane performers do. This isn’t your field. It’s sad, because I have to agree with my fellow judge that you do seem to have some talent for guitar you’re wasting here.”
The half elf finished and handed over the form. “Well, at least I can piss you off in the process of making myself look like an ass again. See you at the open mic, then?”
She didn’t wait for the answer. Instead, Holly left the Well behind and started walking. Usually, if she was in town she’d head to work – but she didn’t have that until tomorrow. There was nothing she needed to get, and nowhere she really wanted to go. The smart thing to do would be to head home and work on her song…
But Holly had never been smart.
Instead, she found herself walking along a road that would take her to a small park that the druids like to hang out in when they weren’t bothering her boss. The old tree was popular among them for some reason – she assumed drugs. Druids to her always seemed high off something, and if anyone knew where to get it, she would guess it would be Juniper. It would at least explain the locked room, but in the end she didn’t really care. It wasn’t her business.
Thanks to the aching in her knee, the half-elf sat down at the nearest bench. It was quiet due to the fact that people were in school or work at that time. She could see some druids doing… druid shit… off in the distance, but other than that she had the place to herself. If the leaves had been changing color it might have been pretty… but it was too early for that. So she sought quiet under a canopy of green leaves, staring out blankly.
Even though she didn’t want to, her mind went back to the judge. As much as she hated the woman – and she did. A whole lot of hatred hung out there – she had a point. If Holly had any sense in her head, she’d give up and just go off to do something else. Enough experience showed her she didn’t have what it took to take the stage for Harvest Fest. After all, she had no band, she had no magic… she had no chance.
But admitting that hurt far more than she could ever admit. It was like a knife, stabbing her in a heart she had thought she had long since put to sleep. Apparently, it was awake enough to still bleed, even though she couldn’t see it staining her jacket.
“Fuck.”
Holly sighed, closing her eyes and resting her forehead on her knee to both relieve the pain and give her a chance to ignore the day. Normally, these thoughts hit her when she was alone, at night. It felt almost out of character to have them in the middle of a bright day with plenty of sunshine and green trees around.
Was that a sign it was getting worse?
“Universe, you showed me that reminder for a reason… should I take it that this is the last shot you’re giving me?”
Now, Holly didn’t believe in gods. She was an atheist after all. Despite that, some weird elven side of her still held to the feeling that the universe could put things into play when it wanted something done. Most of the time, she was pretty sure it ignored her, but at the moment she swore she could feel the countless eyes upon her back, watching her every move.
She could feel it in her gut as they stared down upon her. This was the last change she was going to get for this. What came after… she didn’t want to think about. It wasn’t anything good, she knew that much. But there was no doubt about it as she sat there on that bench, eyes closed and back aching.
The universe didn’t answer her question, but she hadn’t expected it to do so. After all, it had more important things to do in the grand scheme of things. But with that thought in the back of her mind, Holly got up and started to walk towards the bus that would take her home.
She had a song to work on. After all, there was only a handful of weeks until the open mic night. There was a backing track to record now, which meant writing out the bass and drum parts. Then it was the guitar line…
It was going to keep her busy. But maybe that was for the best too. After all, if she was focused on that, then she couldn’t think about the things that kept her up at night. In a way, it was a small favor.
So was the leaf that fluttered down to land at her feet, a bright crimson color that nearly matched her hair. Holly bent down to pick it up and realized it had come from a nearby tree, parts of it turning red and gold amid the green of its brothers.
“Huh… first leaf of fall.” She glanced down at it. Something about that felt… purposeful, though for what she didn’t know why. Maybe that was why Holly didn’t toss the leaf and instead carefully put it into her pocket. Once it was home, she’d stick it on her desk to dry.
Was that the universe telling her she was making the right decision, or that she had set in motion her own calamitous end? When it came down to it, Holly had never been big on interpreting symbols. In the end, it was a nice leaf she was happy to take home.
Sometimes, thinking about that shit didn’t pay. Besides, she had other stuff to worry about, like a drum line and getting into a studio during the run up to the prequels to record everything. That was going to keep her busy for sure as she saw the bus approaching.
If it was going to be her last run at this, she was going to go full force all the way. After all… no way she could rest easy if she did anything else.
But… damn. She was bad at writing bass lines. And lyrics. Yep… she could already feel the headache coming on. She should’ve just stayed in fucking bed…
