SteveTony Weekly - November 12
Tumblr media
Happy weekend, friends! I’ve got a short list for you this week, which tbh, is gonna be the trend for a while. Work is increasingly busy, as are family commitments, and grad school is scheduled for January. Sorry about that. Anyway--enjoy these recs and be sure to leave a comment/kudo for your fic authors!

stellar collision by Pandemic
He turns sixteen in front of his bathroom mirror with a chill across his skin, goosebumps on his arms, and a burn across his sternum. A wet laugh bubbles up from his mouth, too close to tears, as he watches avidly as ink pours across his skin. He thumbs the mark, presses into it, and gasps when he feels his stomach twist and a feeling he can’t shake that his soulmark is somewhere out there doing the same.
"I loved them instantly. It’s remarkable. Where was that love before? Where did you acquire it from? The way it is suddenly there, total and complete, as sudden as grief but in reverse, is one of the wonders of being human.”

Steve Rogers is happy with his life. He runs a small bookshop, has good friends, and he fervently believes that the printed page is not obsolete. He's not expecting Tony Stark, billionaire inventor of the best e-reader on the market and perennial prey of the gossip magazines, to walk through the door.
His friends think he's crazy not to at least get the man's number, considering he's had a crush on Tony for years, but as luck would have it Steve might just get another chance.

When a mysterious knight is wounded in battle while protecting King Anthony Stark, it's hard to tell who's more frustrated: the king, who has so far failed to discover any clues to the missing man's identity, or the king's personal attendant, Steven Rogers, who can't believe King Anthony took the field in the first place.
What Lies Inside by Penumbren
When the Avengers discover Captain America in the Arctic sea, they find more than just a new team member: Tony Stark discovers his fated mate. The problem is, Steve Rogers is a man out of his own time and apparently straight, and Tony's not about to force anything on the man he loves--even if it means his own death. Besides, Tony's spent his entire life keeping secrets. How can he possibly tell Steve that he's really Iron Man, let alone a werewolf?

Tony has an internalised Steve Rogers rating system, but it’s not standardised. It’s also not a foolproof system because Steve behaves in ways that crash it all the time.

Sugar Seeking Sugar by NotEvenCloseToStraight
After Howard kicks Omega!Tony out, Tony is left to raise baby!Peter by himself. Working a crappy job and barely surviving, the Omega is desperate for help. When Omega!Clint suggests a Sugar Daddy, Tony is first horrified then resigned to what might be his only option to keep food on the table.
Alpha!Steve has a career, a big house, and money but is lonely every day of his life and doesn't know how to change it. When Alpha!Bucky suggests a Sugar Baby, Steve is first scandalized and then hesitantly open to at least trying.
The Sugar Seeking Sugar Agency matches Tony and Steve, and sparks fly right away between the pair. One date leads to two, then shopping trips and sleepovers, and Tony has money for bills, diapers and baby clothes while Steve is happy with the company and quickly falling in love.
Alphas usually don't want to deal with another Alpha's kid, so Tony keeps Peter a secret as long as he can but eventually he has to tell Steve about his past, his complicated life and what it might mean for their relationship.
Will the truth put a stop to their slowly progressing romance, or is a family with Tony exactly what lonely Alpha!Steve has always wanted?

Cold Case Crimes: The Archeron Sisters (Remains Unsolved)
Tumblr media
Hello, hello, hello.
Welcome to the Spooky Speaks Podcast, hosted by me, Ae Neon. Thank you for everyone who's joined... Today I'm a little excited! Can you tell? Do you know whyyy??
Because today we're looking at the case that inspired me to make this podcast. A case that still gives me chills.
True crimer or not, everyone knows this case.
Okay so before we dive in, remember I'm gonna go over the general timeline first then a detailed analysis of all the parts and then we go into theories and call-ins. Okay? Okay.
Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, everyone knew who the Archerons were. Their reality show, "All Day with the Archerons", aired for almost 6 years between '99 and '05 and every weekend millions of people around the world gathered to watch William and Elizabeth Archeron raise their 3 daughters.
The show was a hit and helped catapult the Archerons from a small business family to household names. Mrs Archeron became the face of Revlon's Modern Moms campaign, modelled for Dior and even had a guest appearance on Oprah while promoting her book, "How To Raise a Winner"
Though the book, and Elizabeth herself, were later criticised for harmful and abusive conduct towards children after her eldest daughter, Nesta, collapsed due to stress.
However, the controversy quickly died down after it was announced Elizabeth had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and the latest season would be the last.
The family moved to Williams' hometown and Elizabeth died later that year. Their businesses closed and the family retreated from public life altogether.
For a while it seemed like the Archeron name might fade, relegated to nostalgia tidbits and C-list gossip columns who reported on Nesta's brief romance with notorious ice hockey player, Tomas Mandray.
Until, years later, their names began hitting the front pages once again.
On the morning of November 23rd, Elain Archeron filed a missing persons case with the police. Only a few hours later, the case was all over the local news.
Feyre Archeron, 19 at the time, hadn't come back from a night out with friends.
She was the only one of the 3 who remained in their family home, their father was living at a care facility a few minutes away and her 2 eldest sisters both lived out of town.
They were meant to gather for the holidays as they always did and Elain had arrived a little earlier than usual, the extra set of hands meant Feyre had time to go out with friends and she did, telling her sister she'd be back by morning.
But Feyre never returned.
The case ignited a wave of search efforts but after 4 months with almost zero evidence to go on, it began to die down.
Until, on March 8th, two young women reported their housemate missing. Nesta Archeron had disappeared.
This time police had more to go on, Nesta had not been the same since Feyre's disappearance. Her roommates reporting that she'd stopped eating and insisted that Feyre had been abducted. Workers at Sunnybrook Care, even reporting that they'd had to escort her off the premises when it seemed she might become violent in an argument with her father.
"She was screaming, kinda crazy, you know? But like really sad and angry too. Kept asking him if he was gonna 'sit back and watch like always'." One witness said to reporters, "Like she kept talking about her mom too and I think it's true, you know, the rumours that she was abused maybe."
Reports later released to the public include that Nesta had made strange purchases, withdrew large amounts of cash and frequented the dark web in search of help "hunting someone down".
In the end most people chalked it up to grief and long term stress disorders, with rumours of past abuse and even drug use surrounding the case.
The tragedy put the spotlight firmly on Elain Archeron and once again, the world fell in love with the family.
Elain had moved her father in with her after Nesta's disappearance as well as made several appearances on various talk and radio shows pleading for any information regarding her sisters.
She started up an organization aimed at using private security resources to track missing persons and suspects. And through this, she met Graysen. The two were instantly taken with one another and engaged 6 months later.
...Only one month before she too would disappear without a trace.

Thats the art of getting by, by sarewolf
Again, new to marauders. This fic 3 that I’ve read. Feel free to shoot me recs, currently looking for ~100,000 word fic with a good angst balance and no major character death.
Summary: Overall this story was INCREDIBLE. I loved the writing style, such a good amount of angst, and an easy to follow narrative. It raised Harry like exactly how I wanted and was so cutey and sweetly and UGH
SPOILERS BELOW BEWARE
Chapter one
I already like the opening quote. Can tell the writing is going to be good.
God the angst is already great
He’s only 24 wild
I kind of forgot just how much he lost that night, like all of his closest friends were dead. Even in canon, with no world star this probably sucks the worst for Lupin.
Okay I’m actually crying already
I’ve been wanting a babyfic since the first one I read
This is such a hard thing to do, parenting is hard without the trauma and sob storying
Chapter two
I wonder how they are going to reincorporate Sirius
And I’m concerned about Harry’s quietness, I feel like that’s not consistent with who he grows up to be
Hoping for some baby Ron and harry content eventually
I never give Kudos until the end of the fic, this is incredible and I absolutely adore it already
Literally crying from how sad Remus is Jesus
Chapter three
YES love old lady gossip
Neris is so cute delicious
Plus Harry is opening up a lot, so far very happy chapter!
So gay bruh
HARRY BEING SAD TOO IS KILLING ME JUST A BABY FR
This is actually fucking INFURIATING him being like “Sirius never loved us” like BRO I know you’re being LIED TO but I CANNOT HANDLE IT TOO SAD
Chapter four
Now I need to be a depressed widow with a three year old son who loves me
Like I think just having a child would patch my soul
This is actually the cutest thing ever love love love
I think me and remus lupin are the same person
Like gay traumatized werewolf = teenaged girl
“Oh the memories, oh the love” SO ME
YES RON AND HARRY BEST FRIENDS IM GONNA SOB
Damn he’s in love with Sirius fr fr
Can tell this is a shift, so gonna do a small recap
Wonderful characterization
Remus kind of being forced to push forward is great narratively, a little concerned about how it will work with pacing
They write Harry very well, not annoying as children can often be in fic
Chapter five
This is what I wanted, you see James and Lily in harry and remus is just thoughtful and reflective enough to show the audience the importance of this its just MWAH
Oh my god
Baby trauma. He’s so cute and being such a little bitch
Literally so sad, like remus is such a better parent than the Dursleys could ever be but him knowing what harry had makes it sad
If I have to read “angry fucks” again im gonna lose it, say sex please, at least sometimes
YES HE’S FREEEE
Chapter six
God this sucks, like I know they aren’t truly in danger but the emotional turmoil goes crazy
3 chapters till we get Sirius saying it now
Cannot understate how much remus’s pining and distraught connects to me
Like I can tell they were in love but SO TOXIC which, again, is teenage girl core
Not to diminish the relationship, I think the way teenage girls evaluate breakups and romance is like peak human condition and is incredibly poignant amidst the issues of war and death and loss.
YES FUCK YES HELL YEAH INNOCENT INNOCENT INNOCENTTTTTT FUCK PETER HATE THAT SON OF A BITCH
Chapter seven
UGH I know I said fuck Peter but this still sucks ass
When do I get to see Sirius. Ik I said 3 chapters but I didn’t mean it
Damn Petes evil as fuck
The justice in him being DECLARED innocent is so beautiful. I wish that could’ve happened in the books, he died being known as a shitty, terrible human being
Chapter eight
Ok skip this shit and jump to the gay sex I do not want a flashback rn I need TEARS
Jk obviously its important and builds suspense, well written two with good symbolism
Fuck fuck fuck fuck just kiss please I need them to kiss please
Like I actually cannot watch them be fucking roommates ill vomit
Sobbing sobbing sobbing “I hope not” Jesus fucking christ let me suck the authors dick I love this sm
Chapter nine
Just taking in the idea that both Sirius and Harry see each other as a replacement for James in the books, that is such a beautiful like concept with such horrible influences on how they treat each other and I really want to see how its reconciled here, if its relevant at all
Harry with his two dads that barely speak to each other
I do need reconciliation but making sure the weight of tragedy is like there also seems important
But also, please, just fuck already
Chapter ten
Ok remus time to put your big boy pants on and apologize
Like actually nothing will fix itself until you say sorry man
“He’s pack” BRUH harry
Pls having to tell everyone you’re living with this famous not-criminal is so funny I actually am losing it
Pls just be nice to each other for once bruh
Yay!! Nice!!
They’re so like fucked up its messy brother
Chapter eleven
THIS IS SO CUTE IM GONNA KMS
The dog plushie, the memory album, literally everything god I love Christmas
Omfg. Sweater. Sobbing.
AND HITTING ME WITH ANGST AT THE END. This is such a good joy-depression balance
Like its SO SO SAD like irrevocably depressing and filled with grief but also like LIFE and CHILDHOOD and JOY and bruuuhh
Chapter twelve
evil
Chapter fourteen
Basically skipped twelve and thirteen
Jesus Christ
That was gay sex fs
The dementors kiss scene was fucking heart breaking, like devastatingly sad but obviously Peter deserved it
Actually idk, soullessness is so horrific
Then THE KISS and the SEX and everything it was so raw and good and Jesus fucking christ
I want to have sex with eric again bruh
Just so sad, and so happy at the end with the talk of learning to live with it and just UGH amazing I love it
Literally cannot think of a critique atm, im sure ill have some at the end though
FULL RECAP
Yes I know I skipped 16 and 17 and I'm sorry.
Overall this story was INCREDIBLE. I loved the writing style, such a good amount of angst, and an easy to follow narrative. It raised Harry like exactly how I wanted and was so cutey and sweetly and UGH. I will say I wish there was more to the plot than “everyone is sad and trying to not be anymore”While that is a completely reasonable story, it does make it a little boring. But because this fic is fairly short it works out alright. My only true criticism is going to be on the pacing. I am not sure at all when Harry and Remus were introduced to each other, or how far after that Sirius came into their lives. I also think Harry and Sirius’ connection, while amazing, was a bit unrealistic at the beginning. For a child with this much past to IMMEDIATELY latch onto someone like this is kinda wild, but it works for the story so no big deal honestly. I think characterizations were good, not great. However, this is a situation we haven’t seen marauders in and I’m not super familiar with how marauders are usually characterized outside of reading the books and watching movies, so I’d reevaluate characterization stuff once im more engrossed in the fandom.
This is something I just thought about while adding tags, having moody in this fic was nice. He's a character I'd like to see more out of what I've read so far in marauders
9/10, truly loved this one

Unknowingly and unintentionally, Y/n let out a big sigh as she poured a glass of water.
"What's wrong, Y/n?" Naomi asked gently, coming up behind her and hugging her tightly.
"Peter."
Naomi hummed, a sign that she was waiting for Y/n to lead the conversation so she could follow because if it were up to Naomi, she would immediately start trash-talking Peter and she wasn't sure if that was the vibe right now or not.
Y/n shook her head in disbelief as she jumped up to sit on the counter. "He got so mad when he found out I slept over at Karl's."
"I'm sorry, Y/n. I wish you would just cut him off completely."
"I don't know. I know I should but... part of me wonders if he could ever go back to how he was when I met him. I would probably date that guy again but not who he turned out to be."
Naomi looked horrified. "No. You sound like you're considering hearing him out. No, is that a joke? He's a bad person."
"I'm not," Y/n reassured. "I'm just thinking hypothetically. Probably because I miss having someone..."
"Y/n, you have a ton of thirsty people in your mentions. If you really want someone that bad, just scroll through, land on one and I bet they're a million times better than that sack of burned potatoes."
Y/n rolled her eyes but smiled lightly. "Most of those are jokes."
"Not all of them," she teased.
"I know you're going to tell me anyway so just say it. Who specifically do you think isn't joking?"
"Dream," Naomi sang.
"Okay, crazy." Y/n reached over, staying seated on the counter as she grabbed a bowl from a cabinet on her left. She then leaned all the way right, reaching as far as she could, but couldn't quite grab a cereal box from the top of the refrigerator.
Naomi rolled her eyes as she helped, handing Y/n the box. She even went the extra step to get Y/n a spoon and the milk because she was that nice. "I'm not joking. Neither is he. Karl and I have talked about it and we both agree."
Y/n paused at her friend's words, her hand hovering over the milk that Naomi held out for her. "You guys gossip about my love life?"
Naomi set the milk next to Y/n, tired of holding it out for her. "Of course? Like we don't do that about Karl? Or you and him about me?"
She couldn't argue there.
"Karl says there's a different vibe from Dream when you join calls and I believe it. I mean, I've seen it during streams myself so I can only imagine how much more obviously in love with you he is during private calls.
"That 'vibe' is Karl's delusional mind creating things. He's too scared to talk to cameragirl so he's projecting onto Dream and I."
"Yeah, okay," Naomi agreed sarcastically.
Y/n huffed. "Besides, he's in Florida. I'm in North Carolina, in case you weren't aware."
"So you're saying if you lived in the same state, you'd date him?"
"I didn't say that." She honestly had never thought of it. Sure she liked hanging out with Dream and her stomach got butterflies when he talked directly to her and he made her smile harder than anyone ever had and he—
And she didn't like him like that. She had only officially met the guy like a week and a half ago and she didn't know what he looked like. There was no way you could catch feelings for someone without seeing them.
Naomi's expression fell again. "Distance doesn't matter, anyway."
"I swear if you say something about George I will slap you," she threatened through a smile and Naomi gave her an innocent grin back.
"If you're lonely, get on Tinder, not Peter. Or get on Dream. I have no qualms with that."
"Peter isn't even an option, Naomi." Y/n sighed, ignoring the comment about Dream.  "Also," she swallowed the last of her cereal and set the bowl down with a clank. "I'm gonna tell Peter I don't want to be friends anymore. Dream and George can be added to the list of Peter haters."
"You talked to them about it?"
She nodded. "You know how I have little gossip sessions with George? Well, Dream was there too this time."
"Well, of course Dream would hate Peter. We've established that he likes you."
"No, no, you and Karl delusionally hypothesized that."
Naomi tapped the counter methodically, a sign Y/n knew to signal that she was thinking hard. "Somehow, one day, I'll prove he does."
"Good luck."
"Wanna watch a movie?"
"Yes," Y/n perked up. "Go pick something, I'll get blankets."
She went to her room, grabbing her favorite cuddling blankets. She started leaving her room when she heard a ding on her open desktop, signaling that she had a call incoming from Discord. Cool timing.
"I'll be just a second, Naomi!" she called across the house before dropping the blankets on her bed and sliding her headset on, answering the call from Dream. "Hi, Dream!" She sat on her chair and tucked her knees to her chest.
"Hi," he greeted sweetly. "How are you doing today?"
"Much better than when we last talked. How are you?"
"Great now that I'm talking to you," he said smoothly. Y/n rolled her eyes but smiled anyway. "Are you busy?"
"Unfortunately, yes. My roommate and I are about to watch a movie."
"Ooh, what movie?"
"Not sure yet. Any suggestions?"
"Dark Knight. Unless you wanted me to say, like, Tangled or something."
"Yeah, girls' night is exclusively princess movies. Do you know nothing?"
"Apparently," he said with a laugh.
"What's up?"
"Oh, well, I was just gonna see if you wanted to be on call later with me, George, and Sapnap while I stream speedruns, but you're hanging out with your roommate so nevermind."
"Oh," Y/n deflated. "That sounds fun."
"I can push it back if you want to be part of it. If not, that's fine. I just thought it would be cool."
"No, no, no I really do want to, but I don't want you to have to push it back. When were you planning on starting?"
"In about an hour."
"I'll just join later if you're still playing. If that's okay that I come late."
"No. You have to be on time or not at all," he joked. "Of course that's fine," he assured. "And if I'm not playing anymore, you can still join... we usually talk for forever after we play games and it's fun. I would, er, we would love for you to hang out with us."
Y/n couldn't help the large smile on her face from staying even after they hung up and she walked back into the living room with her pile of blankets. She couldn't help it even when Naomi pointed it out and asked why she was so happy.
"Oh, uh, I've been invited to join Dream and them later for a stream."
"That vague answer doesn't warrant the shit-eating grin you have."
Y/n shrugged and cuddled more into her blankets. "What movie did you pick?"
*****
As the end credits rolled across the screen, Y/n yawned and looked over to Naomi in the dark. She was out like a light. Y/n stood up and made sure Naomi was covered in the blanket and she had a pillow. She crept back to her room and slid her headphones on, pulling up Discord where she saw the three boys' names still in a voice call.
She pulled up Twitch on her second monitor and looked for Dream's stream. It was already about an hour in. She clicked on it and her headphones echoed with the sound of George and Sapnap laughing like they said the funniest thing in the world.
"Shut up," Dream muttered. "Guys, what were the coords for the portal? Seriously, come on."
"Nobody tell him," George joked.
"George!"
"Where's Bugsyyyy?" Sapnap whined. "I want her to make fun of you with us."
"Half the stuff we're making fun of him for is about his big fat crush on her so..."
"George!" Dream yelled again. "No, it's not!"
Y/n smiled as she heard that, knowing it was a joke but laughing at the way Dream laughed at the accusation. She knew it wasn't serious or else they wouldn't talk about it on stream. George and Sapnap teased a lot, but certainly, they wouldn't out someone's crush in front of a hundred thousand viewers live.
Tumblr media
"Oh!" Sapnap spoke out loud as George laughed loudly, both reading the text at the same time. "Speaking of..."
Dream waited for either of the two boys to elaborate but neither of them offered one. "What happened?"
"Bugsy texted us," George said off-handedly, typing a response to her. "She's coming in a second."
"Oh."
"What do you mean 'oh'?" Sapnap laughed.
"You guys have a groupchat?"
"Aw, jealous?" George asked.
Y/n joined at that moment, the first sentence coming from her Discord instead of Twitch being from Sapnap saying, "Would it make you more jealous to know our group name is Bugsy's Boys?"
"No, Sapnap, that's the one with Karl," George corrected. "The one with just you, me, and her is Bugsy's Boyfriends."
"WhAT?"
"I still don't approve of that, by the way," Y/n commented.
"Bugsy!!" Sapnap giggled happily. "You're finally here!"
"BUGSY!" George cheered.
"Hi guys!" Y/n laughed at the enthusiasm she was greeted with. "Hi, Dream!"
There was a few seconds of silence before, "Dream!!" George yelled right before the death screen appeared on the Twitch tab still opened on Y/n's right screen. "You idiot, what are you doing?! Why did you throw that run??"
She covered her mouth with the hoodie collar and laughed. "Off to a great start, bud."
"NO!" Dream yelled, knocking something, or somethings, off his desk. "Noooo! I didn't throw it, George, I FELL! Oh, that was going to be such a good run."
"What happened? How did you miss that huge ravine?" George asked while laughing. "It was literally right in the open. You didn't even try to use your water bucket."
"I-I was... I was distracted."
"By what? The completely open field with nothing blocking your vision?" Sapnap criticized with a laugh as well.
Y/n giggled to herself before letting her eyes trail to his chat, which was filled with the same accusations and guesses.
user5: BUGSY!
user2: DISTRACTED BY BUGSYS VOICE
user4: imagine saying hi so cutely that you make a man fall into a ravine
user1: are they dumb? obviously bugsy saying hi made his brain short-circut
user6: guys stop it wasn't bc she said hi. it was the g i g g l e
user3: DISTRACTED BY BUGSY!!!!
user8: HI BUGSY
user10: how to kill a man: hire bugsy to giggle and say hi directly to him
Y/n immediately blushed and covered her face again. She really had a habit of hiding even when no one could see her.
"Oh my gosh," Dream groaned, leaving the world and starting a new one. "Oh. My. Gosh. That's so annoying. I was doing so good."
"Oh," Sapnap laughed. "I understand now."
"What? What did I miss?" George asked.
"Just read chat," Sapnap explained. "They have the answer. Dream, your chat is so smart. Thanks for solving the mystery, chat!"
"No, they aren't ri— that isn't true!" Dream defended. "Chat, shut up."
"You sure?" Y/n asked teasingly, watching as his character paused when she started talking. Was she really making him this flustered just by talking? Surely not. He was just playing into the joke. He continued playing without saying anything, which made George and Sapnap laugh more.
The subject eventually changed and the atmosphere quickly became more relaxed and chill. Tonight was not a feral night like George had texted in all caps.
"Hey George," Y/n started, biting on her hoodie string with a smile because she knew Naomi would hear this when she watched the VOD the next day. "My roommate says hello."
"Oh my gosh," he muttered, making her laugh. "Let it go."
"Wow, I guess that's one way to treat your fans..."
"Fine," he sighed. "Tell her I say hello."
"Well, not if you don't mean it," Y/n teased.
"Yeah, George, you sound so unenthusiastic?" Sapnap asked.
"He's just flustered," Dream commented. "It's okay George, you can have feelings."
"Dream, you fell into a ravine because Bugsy said hi."
"Oh, come on! That's not—I just— I missed the jump! That's it!"
"I'm not flustered or unenthusiastic, I'm just tired, okay?" George explained, ignoring Dream, a yawn spilling out of him to prove it.
Y/n smiled. "Well, you could always let me give her your number if you really want..."
"No. If she had Discord you could give her that but not my phone number."
"Wait, really?" Y/n gasped. "Seriously?"
George laughed lightly. "Yeah, sure, why not?"
"YES! Okay, a huge win for the girls. Well, a huge loss for the fangirls but a huge win for the girls of this apartment."
"Oh my gosh," he muttered and she could practically see him rubbing his face in embarrassment.
"I'll send you her hashtag when she makes one so you know who to add back."
"She's going to make an account just to talk to George?" Sapnap giggled.
"Yes, dude!" Y/n defended. "She at least wants to be his friend, let her shoot her shot!"
Dream ended the steam soon after, not being able to focus enough to beat the end on any of his runs. He had streamed for just under two hours so he seemed to be getting tired as well. George went to bed soon after and after 20 minutes of talking with Sapnap and Dream, Sapnap mysteriously disappeared.
Y/n was about to leave as well, not wanting Dream to feel obligated to stay on the call with her when he spoke up.
"Does Naomi actually like George?"
"Yeah, she does."
"Then I want him to accept her love."
Y/n laughed. "How is he with long-distance relationships?"
"Well, he and I do just fine..." Dream joked. "Oh, not what you meant. I don't know, you guys are the ones that talk about each other's love lives apparently."
"You're still bitter about that?"
"Yes!"
"Suck it up," she laughed. "Naomi would do probably anything to date him so I doubt distance is a problem for her."
"George's sleep schedule is completely messed up, so the time difference wouldn't matter too much. And when he comes to America they can meet in person."
"Wait, he's coming to America?" Y/n gasped happily. "When?"
"There's no set date, but yeah eventually. He'll probably just come to Florida but we've all talked about having a huge meetup with a lot of our friends."
"Oh... cool..."
"Bug? You know you'd be invited to that, right?"
"Oh, really?" she smiled.
"Of course. You're part of the group now."
"Sick," she muttered to herself, but he heard.
"Bug, you're one of my favorite people, do you know that?"
She blushed. "Really?"
"Really."
"You barely know me, Dream."
"Yeah, well, I know enough to know that I'm sorta attached to you."
"Attached to me? In what way?"
He suddenly sounded nervous as if his brain caught up with what his mouth was saying. "I don't know, nevermind."
"No, Dream, what do you mean?" her voice was soft and understanding and it made him feel safe.
"I just... I don't know. I care about you a lot. We met only, what, like a week or two ago, and I already worry about you a lot. Playing games doesn't feel the same anymore unless you're playing with us."
"To be fair, we have been tweeting at each other for much longer than a week or two."
"Yeah, that's true. But it's not the same as actually talking to you."
She smiled shyly. "I care about you a lot too, Clay." His name sounded strange as if it suddenly made everything much more serious. "Sorry, that just kinda slipped. I won't call you Clay if you don't want me to—"
"No, it's okay, it, uh, I like hearing you... say it. But, uh, you can call me whatever you want."
She smiled widely at the nervousness in his voice and the hard pounding of her heart. "I've heard from multiple people that you never stop talking about me."
He laughed timidly. "Maybe. Do you talk about me?"
"Ask Karl," she giggled. "My guess is yes." Her stomach felt tingly and her hands shook lightly. Why did she feel like this all of a sudden? It was late, she reasoned. That, or it was because Naomi had planted the seed of curiosity in her mind. Did Dream like her? No... right?
"I'm sorry if my chat was making you uncomfortable at the beginning when I died..."
"Don't worry, I wasn't uncomfortable."
"It was true, by the way," he paused, "what they were saying. Just... in case you were wondering."
Y/n couldn't wipe the smile off her face, which was growing painful at this point. "What, my voice makes your brain short-circut? That was one comment I saw."
Dream laughed. "More like your entire presence, but... yeah I guess so."
How is someone supposed to respond to something like that? The sweetness in his voice almost made her sick but in a good way.
And just like when he named her Minecraft flower something sweet knowing that no one would see it, why was he still playing up the joke when no one was around?
Not knowing what to say, she decided to let him in on a little secret. "If it matters, you're one of my favorite people too."
"It does."
There was a deathly moment of tense silence as if both of them were screaming to say something but neither did.
"Basically, if we do have a meet-up, I'll sue you if you don't come."
Y/n laughed. "My pockets are empty, sir, so... good luck."
He laughed and it was music to her ears.
"Are you not nervous to show everyone your face? Like, if or when we do all get together."
"Not really. Especially not if it's just to our friends. Are you?"
"Yeah," she admitted.
"Why?"
She sighed. "I'm sure people have me painted in a specific way in their heads and I've seen fanart of me that is way different and way more attractive than I am. I just don't want to let anyone down by not living up to their expectations."
"Bug," Dream said softly, "you couldn't let anyone down."
"You don't know that."
"You can't disappoint real friends or real fans with the way you look."
"To be clear, Dream," she laughed nervously, afraid she would sound conceited, "I don't think I'm ugly. I like the way I look. I'm happy with me. But that doesn't mean I can't still let people down."
"Different than expected doesn't mean disappointing."
His words smacked her in the gut. He was right. Reality and imagination are very different. Neither has to be better or worse than the other. She could look the complete opposite of how someone expects but that doesn't mean they will be either disappointed OR pleased. And why does it matter anyway? If she likes how she looks, who cares what other people think?
"It's also scary to think of getting recognized in public," she admitted. "Being recognized from the start is one thing because it starts off slowly with only a few people knowing your face but if the first time people see your face is when you have millions of fans, the recognition would be overwhelming."
"That's true. I don't think I would mind that much, though."
"Of course not, you're you."
"What does that mean?"
"You like the spotlight."
"I guess. Not all the time."
"Well, what about you?" she asked. "Are you afraid of people knowing what you look like?"
"No. I want to do a face reveal soon but I don't know how I would do it. I want to do it at some kind of event or something but I don't know."
"I need to schedule around when you do it because you'll break the internet. Give us content creators a warning so we can prepare to not get viewers for a week."
Dream laughed. "Oh come on."
"Twitter would just be full of the same picture of you in every single tweet."
"It won't be that big of a deal."
"Something tells me your millions and millions of subs say otherwise."
"Whatever," he said. "As if you wouldn't break the internet too."
"Maybe for a day or two. But you'd break everything for weeks."
"Sure." There was a long pause before Dream softly said, "Karl's lucky."
"How so?"
He didn't speak for a moment, almost like he wasn't prepared for that question because he didn't mean to be heard. "I wish I could know you the way he does."
"You could. He and I knew each other in person first so it's different. You and I could get there eventually."
"You think so?"
"I know so. I trust you a scary amount for someone I met weeks ago."
"I didn't mean to sound like I'm trying to pressure you into showing me your face or telling me your name. I didn't mean like he gets to know what you look like and I don't. I meant, like, I wish we could hang out in person because I prefer that over talking in Discord."
"I get it, Clay. I feel the same way," Y/n said softly. There were a few moments of silence before she spoke again.
"Oh, gosh, it's already four."
Y/n's head snapped to look at her clock, which read 3:57am. "Already?" she whispered. "Dang."
As if acknowledging the time changed the atmosphere, it suddenly felt like 4am. Her back ached from her shifting in her chair so much over the last few hours, never being able to find a good position. The house was eerily quiet and all she heard was the low hum of the heater. The house felt stale, not used to its occupants being so alert and awake at that hour.
"I should probably go to bed..."
"Yeah, me too," Dream agreed. His voice sounded tired. "Thanks for joining us, it was really fun with you."
"Thanks for inviting me. Sorry I made you die. Hopefully you'll still let me back again."
"You're always invited to barge into my streams. Actually."
Y/n giggled again and mentally slapped herself for sounding like a little kid. "Well, you too. You can interrupt my streams anytime."
"I'll hold you to that."
"Goodnight, Clay."
"Goodnight, Bug."

"a single thread of gold/tied me to you" for ironhusbands?💛
If there is one thing that James Rhodes cannot stand, it is “love at first sight.” In his professional and personal opinion, there is no such thing. It is simply a concept that Disney invented so they could make cutesy stories about princesses finding their princes immediately and give people hope about love, but in the end it is all about the money.
“You’re a cynic,” his sister Jeanie tells him over breakfast. She flings a stray Cheerio at him. “You are a cynic and you’re never gonna date someone because they’re going to think you suck.”
“People are going to date me and realize that I’m a good, realistic choice,” James responds, sticking his tongue out and stealing a drink of her orange juice. “People are going to date you and you’ll be disappointed because you watched too many romantic movies and you let it taint reality.”
“Loser.”
“Dork.”
And then he’s in college.
Surprisingly, he doesn’t meet Tony Stark for two years despite the fact that every single year, they live in the same building on different floors. He has had to evacuate about twenty different times because Tony cannot stop himself from doing experiments in his room.
The third year, James is an RA and required to live with one of the residents because of “experimental tendencies.” They don’t elaborate on why he’s stuck with a roommate, what the tendencies are, or who he is.
“You’ll know,” comes the email from the coordinator, and he has never wanted to curse so badly in an email before, but here he is.
But he’ll deal with it. Just like how he’s going to deal with everything this year.
-
He thought he would get the room to himself for a little while before everyone moved in and brought everything and he would check them in.
But no.
There’s his roommate, lounging on a bed, and grinning.
“Simply enlightening to meet you, James. They told me I could come back if I had a trusted roommate.”
“And they stuck you with me?”
“Well they were going to stick me with some dude who got the email, and then immediately transferred to Dartmouth. So I think you were the second option.”
“Great.”
He hates life, maybe just a little bit.
Tony wants to do things. Which is fine, but he isn’t really in the mood to have the conversation of the fact that he can do things, but he doesn’t want to do them. He has to focus on being an RA and preparing for the Air Force.
“Why prepare for that when you could be living?” Tony asks, lounging on Rhodey’s bed.
Oh yeah, that’s new too. Rhodey. Apparently, “Jim,” “James,” and “Rhodes” were unacceptable nicknames.
What is acceptable is Rhodey. And of course, the “honey bunches of oats” and “loveliest RA of all time in the history of MIT” and “sugar-puff” and “sweetness overload”
He’s responding to all of them, by the way.
Rhodey didn’t think his mental health would get this bad by the beginning. He had actually scheduled it to be around October.
And then the students come. There are nervous freshmen, the sophomores who don’t say anything as they move in and get settled, and the returning juniors and seniors greet Rhodey and Tony with familiarity and laugh about the posters that Rhodey’s worked hard on.
“So, we’re having joint-RA’s or something?” Miles asks, throwing his comforter over his bed.
“No, we’re not,” Rhodey says, hoping his expression is somewhere along the lines of not-showing-emotion. “Tony’s just...”
“I’m simply too exhausting for Housing to deal with anymore, so I have a babysitter,” Tony says with a wink. “And who better than our lovely Rhodey?”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Sugar-puff?”
“Still no.”
Miles snorts.
“This year should be good. Tony, you gonna pull any fire alarms this year?”
“Rhodey has expressly banned experiments in the building, unfortunately,” Tony sighs. “It’s like he doesn’t want everyone to bond over having to leave at two in the morning...”
“Nothing says bonding like hating a rude wake-up call,” Rhodey says, and Tony nods. “We’ll let you get all moved in, Miles. Remember that floor dinner is at six!”
“You got it!”
Rhodey gives Tony a look.
“You know, I can do this on my own.”
“Aw shutterbug, I’m not gonna let you.”
“Are you really this intent on following me around?”
“Well, what if I want to overtake your position next year? What if you tragically get a raging headache and it’s up to me to know what to do? What if your mother kidnaps you and never lets you come here again?”
“I’m sure the college kids will be fine,” Rhodey stresses. “And I’ll still have access to email and the groupchat, genius.”
Tony just laughs.
“Alright, okay. I gotta go get some shit for my new class. The teacher sent out an email stating that the textbook is mandatory, and we have to do book work. This feels like eighth grade all over again.”
Rhodey snorts.
“Is it for Professor Casper?”
“Yeah, did you have him?”
“Yeah, you don’t need the book. You can find it online for free, and he never collects the book work. It’s a waste of time to get the book.”
“You’re an angel-and-a-half, love of my life,” Tony says. “And for that, I’ll snag an extra pudding for you at the dining hall.”
“Is it vanilla or chocolate this time?”
“Chocolate with cookies in it.”
“Oh my god, seriously? Already?”
“Guess they must have had a jump,” Tony teases. “I’ll see you at dinner.”
Tony has a specific way of getting people to open up and actually talk with others that Rhodey envies.
If Tony wasn’t so hellbent on convincing the group that if Miles and Kamala create a distraction, they could totally sneak out one of the pictures of the mascot.
“We are not doing that the first week,” Rhodey says. “Maybe the last.”
“It’s a beaver,” Tony whines. “Who’s gonna miss it, a Canadian?”
“It’ll be the floor bonding activity,” Gwen says, finishing off her fifth (maybe sixth) slice of pizza. “Better than talking about your feelings about the campus or whatever.”
“No.”
“We’ll convince him soon,” Tony whispers conspiratorially. “Also, who here is a freshman? I have some advice regarding the math classes and which teacher you want...”
Rhodey does have to admit, that sometimes it’s easier to have Tony around, who is so willing to stay up until the late hours because of some stupid drama or to help Peter at his chemistry homework and also ease his anxiety about leaving his Aunt May all alone.
Tony isn’t all wild and crazy as stories have led him up to be.
"I wore out all my crazy freshman year after going to two frat parties and deciding that no one knew anything about how to have fun,” he declared. “I mean, come on. Why have beer pong when you could quiz people about obscure fashion facts?”
Rhodey snorts.
“Don’t make that the next game night. Hey, what do you think about having a movie night this Friday? I’m thinking something not scary, we’ve been doing a lot of those.”
“It is October, what do you mean not scary?”
“Some of our residents don’t like scary,” Rhodey reminds him. “Honestly, I think we could do with a bit of Halloween fun.”
“Hocus Pocus? Double Double, Toil and Trouble? If you want to be slightly scared of old women and clown parties, I’d recommend it.”
“You weren’t scared of clowns beforehand?”
“Of course not, I wanted what they have; the ability to fit eighteen people in a car.”
“Couldn’t you just gut the car?”
“Not the same effect, honey-pie. Not the same effect.”
Miles and Peter both end up lobbying for Hocus Pocus, with little to no competition other than a promise that the other choice would be shown later on in the semester.
They’ve shoved all the chairs together and multiple people have brought out their own chairs, and Tony saves a seat for Rhodey under the premise of “Rhodey organized it, he gets a seat.”
It’s a tough squeeze, and Tony and Rhodey get all tangled up together.
Tony smells like expensive cologne and coffee, and he grins up at Rhodey and maybe the lights from the TV aren’t bright enough, but for a moment his heart skips a beat.
Well. Shit.
When he goes home for Thanksgiving break, Tony seems a bit...sad.
“What, your mom cook the worst turkey in the world?” he jokes.
"Sure,” Tony says, eyes unfocused. “Yeah.”
"Dude, you okay?”
“Yeah,” Tony says, turning. His smile brightens, eyes crinkling. “Why wouldn’t I be fine, buttercup?”
Rhodey gives him a look.
“I’m gonna call you when I get home, okay? You better answer.”
“I always answer to you,” Tony says, and damn Rhodey’s mind shouldn’t be going where it is.
Rhodey waves, gets in his car, and thinks about how Tony most likely has a problem on his mind, how he should probably not room with him, and his Aunt Ada’s green beans.
God, he loves those green beans.
Tony is alone for Thanksgiving. Jarvis and Ana got an opportunity to visit Aunt Peggy in England, and he knew that they hadn’t seen her in two years. He didn’t want to be selfish, have them stay just for him.
So, it looked like deli turkey sandwiches were in his future. If there’s still some soda in the fridge, maybe that too.
He sighs, and turns towards the lab. Dum-E’s not even here, as he didn’t fit in the travel car, so Tony let him loose on the floor to “keep guard” over the dorms and make sure that no one broke in or stole the cords that he knows he accidentally left in the common room.
The odd thing is, he had almost told Rhodey. Almost let him know that he’d be alone for Thanksgiving, but is that weird? That’s weird, right? To tell people your emotions just...it’s so messy.
They have to deal with it, you have to deal with the fact that they’re dealing with it, and then other people know that you both are dealing with it and it’s just a whole mess of epic proportions, you know?
-
Rhodey finds out on Thanksgiving, when they’re doing the parade on the TV and there’s a new snippet on the gossip channel when they go on commercial break.
Howard and Maria Stark, vacationing off the Mediterranean Coast.
“It’s reported that Tony Stark has preferred to spend his time in the vacation home,” the news reporter said, her smile wide and placid.
“Tony’s lucky,” Mama says, wrapping golden yarn around her fingers as she works on another sweater. (A small one, a tiny one. It’s for the new baby in the family for Christmas.) “He tell you about it?”
“He’s not there,” Rhodey says numbly.
“He’s not?” Dad says, eyes raised over the newspaper.
“No.”
“He didn’t tell you, did he?” Dad asks.
“No, no he didn’t.”
“Well then. Next time he’ll come with us.”
Rhodey nods.
“Christmas?”
“Clear it with his parents if they’re not spending time together.”
“Got it.”
Rhodey’s Thanksgiving is...nice. He can’t stop thinking about Tony going alone.
So he calls him. It’s two in the morning, he might be asleep, and Rhodey’s not sure if he got the “eight” in the last four digits right or not.
“Howard’s out, who is it?” comes a sleep-addled voice.
“Good thing I’m not looking for Howard, Tones.”
“Rhodey? Why are you calling me?” Tony asks, and Rhodey can imagine his eyes lighting up and that’s...that’s something.
“You spent Thanksgiving alone, I wanted to see how you were.”
“Aw, checking in your residents?”
“Checking in on you.”
Tony stills for a moment at the phone.
Besides Jarvis, no one had ever really checked in on him.
“Um, I’m fine?”
“You sure?”
“Yeah. I mean, it sucks to be alone on Thanksgiving, but I don’t really like any of the foods that people usually have, so I’ve been fine. I ordered wraps from my favorite place.”
“Good to hear, good to hear.”
There’s a silent pause for a moment, the one where they both try to find something to say.
“Listen,” Rhodey says. “If you’re ever stuck for a holiday alone, you’re coming with me, okay?”
“I don’t want to intrude on your family,” Tony says softly.
“They all wanna meet you. Jeanie says she can kick your ass at ice hockey!”
“You guys can actually play ice hockey?”
“With limited degrees of success.”
“Oh, now that I gotta see some time.”
They come back to college, and Tony is back to his usual antics, greeting everyone who comes through the elevator with a shower of shredded paper.
“Welcome to Winter Wonderland! Next stop: suffering through finals!”
“Ugh,” Kamala groans, “stop it. Stop making me think. I have to memorize Byronic poetry. Do you know how boring that is?”
"Speak for yourself, I have to build a wooden chair,” Riri whines. “Who works with wood these days? It’s so old-fashioned.”
“Create the most bitching chair alive,” Tony says. “And I’ll help you with the necessary tools. Your professor isn’t expecting much, mainly just that it can support the weight of two people, you’ll be fine. Kam, Byronic poetry is not that bad, you will be good. We will bake cookies.”
“Can we even bake cookies? I thought our floor got banned from kitchen usage,” Peter says. “Hey Rhodey.”
“Hey kiddo,” Rhodey says. “First of all, yes we are banned from the kitchen. Second, we’re only banned and get in trouble so long as they know we’re there. And since more than half of us are nocturnal creatures and I am willing to wake up to help, we can bake cookies.”
There are cheers around the room, and Tony mocks offense.
“You don’t trust me to help the future youth?”
“Given that we’re not allowed to rent out any more equipment from the front office? Yes.”
“You wound me, darling.”
“Only as much as kitchen equipment goes, sweetheart.”
Tony grins.
“Aw, you missed me.”
“Yeah, I did. Now come on, you gotta help me with a billboard about the movie night this Friday. We thinking a romantic comedy or something mildly terrifying but probably won an award?”
“Mildly terrifying!” Gwen calls from her dorm. “If we watch two people falling in love I’ll choke! We’ve been doing it all year!”
“We’ve only watched, like, three rom-coms?”
Gwen rolls her eyes, as if he’s missed something completely obvious.
“You don’t get it. I’ll try again later. Hey, are we doing floor dinner tonight?”
“They’re serving pizza sandwiches, so obviously,” Tony says. “We will feast like kings.”
Christmas is a festive time for Tony. He loves it, and goes overboard with decorations. Rhodey lets him, because you can’t stop Tony once he loves something (and Rhodey is kind of. Fond of him).
Pepper comes up from the fifth floor, whistling.
“Damn, Jim. I knew you would do a good job with decorations, but not this good. Is this...did you buy a miniature village? How was this budgeted?”
“It wasn’t,” Rhodey says. “Tony’s really into Christmas and the floor convinced him that the theme should be Christmas Village. He’s been crafting identities for each villager instead of studying for any exam. The craft store employees know him by name now.”
“Well, we all have our vices. You two seem to get along well. Housing is pleased that he hasn’t blown up anything yet.”
“If they try to serve cheese ravioli again, he might.”
“That’s a problem for Dining,” Pepper reminds him.
“Still, it’s abominable. Where did they get them, bottom of the Hudson River?”
She snorts, adjusting her shirt.
“Probably, but hey. They still got eaten, even if that one freshman threw them all back up at the entrance.”
“It was payback, they were vile.”
Tony waltzes into the lobby, arms filled with glittering tinsel.
“We are not letting you hang that,” Pepper says, gaping at it all. “Do you know how hard it is to get rid of tinsel?”
“We’ll manage!” Tony says. “Also, are you free at six-thirty?”
“No, that’s when we’re getting dinner on my floor, what do you need?”
“Just that little tidbit of knowledge,” Tony says, looking down at his phone.
A message buzzes from the groupchat, and Rhodey glances at it:
We are a go for the real Christmas tree. I have the vacuum, and a believable lie. Rhodey’s gonna tell us when the RA on duty is gonna come so we can hide it.
Rhodey looks at Tony, grinning. He smiles right back.
“Is there some weird roommate telekinesis I’m missing here?” Pepper asks.
“Yes,” Rhodey says. “We’re discussing dinner plans.”
Another text from Harley:
I’m already picking one out with Peter. I have good taste. When is the ornament-making party?
Pepper looks at them.
“You’re planning something that I probably would have to disapprove of. I’ll tell people I got your floor watched tonight.”
“Pepper, light of my life, my absolute sunshine? You’re the best,” Tony says, grinning. “Rhodey-darling, help me with tinsel?”
He can’t say no. Simple as that.
That is how tinsel gets strung throughout his hair as he’s watching Tony climb onto chairs that shouldn’t be climbed on to hang it from everywhere.
“People deserve to have a good-looking Christmas,” he says. “Besides, I wanna win the decoration contest.”
Rhodey laughs.
“Okay, okay. I think we got it in the bag.”
Later on in the week, Tony can be seen flitting about from room to room with help and jokes to lighten the mood.
Rhodey has to admit, being an RA with Tony around is...nice. Better than he thought.
And maybe he has feelings. He’s not going to say anything about it. After all, they’re roommates. He also isn’t allowed to have a relationship with anyone on the floor, regardless of anything.
It doesn’t mean every RA follows it. God knows Sharon’s snuck down to the fourth floor to see Sam near-about every night, and her residents usually keep it a pretty good secret.
Still. There’s also everything else to consider, and the fact that he doesn’t even know if Tony likes him like that.
He doesn’t have to focus on it.
At least, not until the week of finals when he’s dying and Tony’s made him peppermint hot chocolate and sits on his bed, just about an inch away from his notes for his history class.
“Do you remember what you told me on the phone?” Tony asks softly.
“You up to compete against Jeanie for this year’s ice hockey championship?” Rhodey asks, smiling.
Tension releases from Tony’s shoulders.
“Only so long as you’ll have me.”
“Always, genius. Always.”
After the last resident leaves for the holiday and Rhodey checks in with those who are staying, he and Tony hit the road, dragging suitcases behind them.
“Are you sure I’m allowed?” Tony asks. “I can always find a hotel along the way...”
“Mama wants to meet you, I keep telling them a ton about you,” Rhodey says, laughing. “They told me they want to hear your side of the great Glitter Debacle.”
Tony laughs.
“You mean the truth?”
“Uh, I’m sorry, how are you going to convince them that green glitter was needed? And that you could clean it out of carpet?”
“Determination and grit?”
Rhodey laughs again as they pull onto the highway.
After a couple of hours, they make it to Rhodey’s home. His sister comes out, hugs for both.
“Good to meet you Tony,” Jeanie says. “I’ve heard a lot, and I think we’re going to get along awesomely after I tell you every single embarrassing thing that Jim’s ever done.”
“Only if I get to share stories too,” Tony teases, grinning. “Aw, they call you Jim?”
“What do you call him?” Jeanie asks.
“Jim-Jam, angel-dear, sugar-puff, Rhodey. You know, the usual.”
Jeanie snorts, taking one of Rhodey’s bags.
“Calling you the first one from now on.”
“Tony did you have to let her hear any of those?” Rhodey asks, exasperated in a teasing manner.
“Of course I did,” Tony sing-songed. “Now after you, I’m sure your mom is waiting to hug the living daylights out of you.”
It’s not until Rhodey gets all settled in and Tony is downstairs competing with his dad in a round of chess that Jeanie sits on his bed, the intention to annoy.
But it’s...different. She looks at him.
“You love him a lot, don’t you?”
Rhodey stills.
“You wouldn’t have told him he could come here if you didn’t.”
“You’re right.”
“I’m always right,” Jeanie says, flipping braids over her shoulder. “Nice of you to finally realize that I’m the smart one.”
Rhodey doesn’t say anything as she saunters out of the room.
He makes the decision not to tell Tony.
If it goes wrong and if Tony says no, he doesn’t want it to be an awkward family event but more importantly, the most awkward rest of the year ever. He can say it as they’re moving out, and that’s that.
He tells Jeanie as such.
“I thought you didn’t believe in love,” she says as they’re preparing the soup for dinner.”
“I don’t believe in love at first sight,” Rhodey says. “I do believe in love. There’s a difference.”
There’s a hell of a difference.
First sight, you don’t know everything. The second, third, fourth, fifth, and so on? Oh you learn so much more, and they become that more important.
He learns that he doesn’t mind picking up tinsel, so long as Tony is laughing and singing along to all of the worst Christmas songs ever, and maybe. Just maybe he could picture looking at Tony underneath the fairy-lights that they hung in the dorm room for all time.
Love is terrifyingly exhilarating, even when it isn’t supposed to be.
Rhodey did not think his heart would race so much as Tony listened to his Mama talk about her wedding china, about the utter disaster that his father was.
“He forgot his tie,” Mama said, smiling. “Oh my lord, my mother had a cow about that. I thought he looked kind of dashing.”
Tony’s eyes drift towards the wedding pictures, which are slightly shaky, but everyone had such wide smiles.
It’s a far cry from the publicity photos from the Stark wedding, Rhodey remembers the solemn expressions, the stuff tuxedos.
“I love it,” Tony says softly. He looks at Rhodey across the table, setting down the final plate. “Tell me more, Mrs. Rhodes.”
“Call me Mama, honey, Mrs. Rhodes is for people I don’t like that much. I think you’re gonna be my new favorite.”
“Even over me?” Jeanie says, grinning as she kisses Dad on the cheek. “I’m your favorite.”
“You’re my favorite until now,” Mama says. “Don’t think I don’t know that you skipped out on setting the table because Tony was here and graciously offered.”
“It was nothing,” Tony says. “Just happy to help. Thank you for letting me stay at your home for the holidays.”
“We’re always lucky to have guests,” Dad says, setting down the main dish. “Now let’s eat.”
Family dinner is a brand new concept to Tony. He’s had maybe four or five of them, and the majority of which were staged for some holiday shoot or some “celebrating American values” shoot.
It was awkward, weird, and he didn’t get why.
Now, he does. Jeanie has been steadily moving mashed potatoes away from Rhodey’s plate, and Mama caught her eye and winked, distracting him with talk about his college major and news about the neighbors.
Mr. Rhodes watches it all with a careful eye and a lax smile.
After dinner, they play cards.
It should be boring, but Jeanie puts on an old record and Rhodey keeps trying to count cards, and Tony didn’t think you could count cards in a game of Spoons.
“You can’t, he’s just a try-hard,” Jeanie stage-whispers.
“You-”
Jeanie laughs, rolling herself out of Rhodey’s grasp as he chases her around the family room. Tony leans back into the couch, and shouts with surprise as Jeanie trips Rhodey into the couch.
His body twists, and Rhodey’s facing him on the couch and they’re close and with the fire roaring in the fireplace and the Christmas lights outside shining through the windows, it’s almost magic.
It is magic, but Rhodey is kind of terrified of that.
Tony breathes in, breathes out.
“Hello sugar-puff,” he says.
“Hello genius,” Rhodey says, a smile on his face.
Oh.
The night does not get much sleep.
Tony doesn’t sleep anyway, but Rhodey finds that quite often he can’t sleep without some softly-playing rock in the background, doesn’t matter if it is a highly-questionable AC/DC song. That and Tony softly murmuring about his plans, and it’s like a personalized lullaby.
Rhodey cannot sleep. Tony’s in the guest room, and he can’t sleep.
There’s a soft knock on his door.
Tony’s there in shorts and a t-shirt that’s probably expensive, but he’ll never say if it is or not.
“Can I...I can’t sleep.”
“Get in here, Tones. I can’t sleep either.”
The bed is a tight squeeze, but they make it work.
Rhodey whispers until he drifts off to sleep about Christmas and school and everything else.
Tony watches with quiet eyes, interjecting with his own stories occasionally.
They fall asleep tangled up together, and Rhodey doesn’t mind it one bit, not as he pulls Tony in closer.
-
Waking up is bittersweet, honestly. Rhodey has Tony in his arms, and that’s...that’s perfect. He thinks this is going to be the best thing that’s ever happened in his lifetime.
“It’s too early, darling,” Tony groans. The light from outside is already peeking through the blinds, and he has stuffed his head right back into a pillow.
“Jeanie’ll be here soon to bother us for Christmas breakfast,” Rhodey says. “And unless you want her pouncing on the bed and landing on wrong everything, we better get down there.”
Tony smiles sleepily, stretching.
“Thanks for letting me sleep in your room, honey-bunch.”
“No problem,” Rhodey said. “Missed the constant AC/DC and late-night discussions about robotics.”
“Not like I did much talking, Mr. Sap,” Tony teased. “Or was it me who mentioned that they had a favorite plate for dinner?”
“Listen, it’s superior and you did not once interrupt that story to complain. I think I did a great job explaining it.”
Tony laughs.
“I’m gonna go get dressed, okay?”
“Not until after present unwrapping,” Rhodey says. “We stay in pajamas.”
“I’m cold,” Tony whines.
Rhodey chucks his sweatshirt at him.
“Then here you go.”
Tony’s eyes light up as he shrugs it on, wiggling as he brings it up to his nose. It shouldn’t be that cute. But it is.
“You are the light of my life.”
Rhodey laughs, rolling his eyes.
“Maybe. Now come on.”
They head downstairs together, and they both get swept up into the speed of things, with Jeanie racing around the house and telling Tony that he got treats too, they just didn’t have a back-up stocking.
“Hush,” Mr. Rhodes says, handing Tony a carefully wrapped gift. “After breakfast, we’ll go ahead and open it.”
He smiles, and Rhodey thinks it’s the best thing he’ll ever see.
Christmas gifts, Rhodey thinks, are his new favorite thing to see Tony interact with.
It’s painfully obvious that he’s never really had any personal gifts, anything that reminds people of himself. He carefully unwraps the paper, careful not to rip it.
“You nerd,” Rhodey says, grinning. “Come on, show us what you got.”
Tony laughs as he opens a box with two coffee mugs from the rest of the family, emblazoned with “Rhodes” on one cup, and the other being a simple red with gold trim.
“They’re perfect,” he says. “Thank you so much.”
“You’re feeding his coffee addiction,” Rhodey answers.
“Like you aren’t doing the same,” Jeanie teases. “You made him his cups of coffee this morning.”
“That is because I have trained him well,” Tony says, grinning. “Rhodey, here’s my present to you, open it.”
He’s nervous.
Both of them are, but Tony especially so.
He told Rhodey once that he’s not good at shopping for other people. He tends to have the phrase “go big or go home” permanently circling in his mind, and it can lead to...complications.
(Rhodey remembers the overhaul of his closet for his birthday, complete with a visit from a rather well-known designer.)
Inside is a beautiful jacket. It’s all patchwork, artfully sewn together with embroidery thread spelling out “James” at the lapel.
“I commissioned Janet,” Tony says, smiling softly. “She wants you to still walk in her fashion show, by the way. Says you’re a model.”
Rhodey snorts, shrugging on the jacket.
“You helped with this, right?” Rhodey says. “I can see it in the gold thread you got on the sleeves.”
“I may have had some creative input.”
“I love it,” Rhodey says. “Now here’s mine.”
Tony breathes, and Rhodey wonders if this gift will be enough. He feels a bit stupid, it doesn’t seem like that great of a gift, in retrospect-
It’s a puzzle.
A puzzle of their favorite cafe and restaurant to go to at MIT. It was in a shop window, and Rhodey could tell that Tony would love it.
On top is a scarf, since Tony gave away his last one to another student in their philosophy class.
“I love it,” Tony breathes, tackling Rhodey in a hug. “I love it, I love it! We have to do the puzzle after this.”
Mrs. Rhodes sends her husband a look.
Yeah, Tony would be around for a long time.
They set up the puzzle on the floor of Rhodey’s room, clearing away any luggage. It’s silent for a while, Tony moving around the pieces and Rhodey looking for edge pieces.
They work closely together, side by side.
Rhodey can’t stop staring.
He should be able to. He’s stopped himself before, but now?
Sunlight is coming in through the window, playing around Tony’s fingers as he nimbly picks up puzzle pieces, and this is the eternity that Rhodey wants so badly. If he died right now, he thinks he would choose for Heaven to look like this.
“You okay?” Tony asks, eyes looking up. He took his contacts out, and now he’s just in his tortoiseshell glasses, the ones that he secretly likes more and Rhodey loves.
“I’m in love with you,” Rhodey blurts out, because he can’t stop thinking about how beautiful Tony is and how much he loves him.
He realizes that this could very well be considered a mistake. Because they still have to live together and drive back together and it won’t be the same, and the residents will notice no matter how well they both act--
Tony pops his head right under Rhodey’s chin.
“Kiss me?”
That’s all it takes.
They mess up part of the puzzle, but that’s okay. They find they don’t mind it too much. They can work on it later, when Tony’s done getting Rhodey out of his new jacket and Rhodey works his hands underneath Tony’s sweatshirt.
-
Mama takes one look at them for dinner and grins.
“Jeanie, you owe me a night of dish-washing.”
“Seriously?”
“Mama!” Rhodey hisses, embarrassed beyond belief.
Tony just cackles, and elbows Rhodey out of the way so he can get to his chair at the table.
“Couldn’t have fooled you for a second, could we?” Tony teases.
“Not at all,” Mama states proudly.
Rhodey rolls his eyes and squeezes Tony’s hand under the table. All will be well.
When they both get back to college, none of their residents are surprised, at least not until they have to have a “knocking before entering” policy put in place after one particular late morning.

feeling semi-called out because i wear my name tag on one of the pockets of my scrub top, like that's my waist not crotch but i'd probably get a side eye 😭😭 i have so many things and thoughts about the scouts in a hospital au, and omg all your posts about it is bringing it out!! hange in ortho taking in eren too. yes. hange amd all those tools especially the drill LMAO it's perfect. eren is scared at first, but he's also hammering and drilling away in no time. jean in pedia looking like he's holding a football as he holds the little babies 😭 levi being the unexpectedly fair and kind dude from neuro is a fave!! him in oncology is also very special to me tho, like it could be surgical or medical oncology, but he would be so good at both and his juniors would do a double take at how he isn't charming per se, but he has such a way with patients!!!!!! mikasa the smartest girl, endocrinology plus a masters in clinical genetics 🥰 connie in a nonpatient department 😭 i can see it, he is a disaster but an expert at reading those images!! sasha his partner down in pathology or smth, always gets reprimanded for having food out but no one smells out cancer in those specimens like her!!
also...imagine the reverse too, roommate au with levi, but this time he's the one in healthcare and you get to watch him strip at the door after work because of the pancetta. heh. lemme dote on (and bark at) you 🥰🥰
bye i finally had time to go on tumblr and this spilled out, im sorry 😭😭 -💉
Hange as Eren’s attending just makes SENSE!! Eren is hesitant (isn’t he supposed to fix things); but also because a part of him feels like he’s a disappointment for not taking interest in/being gifted at cardio (daddy issues galore). But Hange brings out the best in him, encourages him to use all that feistiness and personality to the best of his ability, and that being a doctor isn’t just about being technical and intelligent on paper; there’s real life application, and personality is a big deal! Honestly, if it weren’t for Hange, Eren might have honestly considered something else, even if he was this far along. They’re the best pair. The loudest too, with the most provocative music taste in the OR, but still the best.
Jean in pediatrics is so near and dear to me. You know he loves the babies so much he’s scared shitless about dropping them that’s why he look so awkward holding them at first. It just takes some practice tho, and soon he’s a pro. It’s kinda... sexy to see how good he is with children, and how easily he can calm a crying infant, and explain complex things to a toddler. He’s such a dream. He knows the white coat thing is a bit pretentious too, but damn if he doesn’t look good in it.
Levi in neuro... it’s just so GOOD. Of course he of all people would handle the brain and all its complexities, and handle it well. Not only is he a dedicated surgeon, but he’s done his fair share of research, his contributions are crazy, even if they’re (literally) microscopic analyses. He’s pretty decorated, but he never flexes it. When his residents find out they kinda freak, “What the hell is he doing mentoring us?? I’m pretty sure this guy is gonna have a newly discovered brain activity/region named after him in 5 years at least. He’s published in Nature. THRICE.” All that, and he’s good with patients, too, it’s unfair. He’s not peppy or “nice,” to them, but he’s gentle; he’s got that charm about him that doesn’t bullshit, but doesn’t fear monger, and is careful to explain things in layman’s terms so his patients fully understand what’s going on. And when his patients are children? God. Godddd.
Mikasa best girl, Levi is/was her attending, at least for a period of time, and he never said it but she was his favorite. She’s smart, competent, flexible, and doesn’t have an ego about it. Truly, a blessing. She still/frequently goes to him for advice, and she’s the only resident to ever enter Levi’s office for a non-offense. Just to talk... maybe even have lunch and talk shit about Eren and Hange’s playlist. Mikasa wants to bitch about a difficult patient, and Levi reminds her about HIPAA violations... but gossips (without names) nonetheless.
So right about Connie in a non-patient department PLEASE. To think Connie considered EMS at first and swiftly shut that idea down when he saw a real life broken bone protruding through skin for the first time, he was SICK LMFAOOO. The bone part was cool to him tho, so radiology turned out to be a great alternative; that way he doesn’t have to see and blood or severed skin, so problem solved! It’s easy to think he’s a slacker or a dunce, but give him labs or imaging to analyze and he’s got it done with ease and accuracy.
Sasha as a nurse is precious, but I can totally see her in pathology. She literally studies disease for a living/interacts with people with these diseases and other illnesses and is still like, “Can’t believe the human immune system was caught slipping like this. Embarrassiiiiiiiing. Simply be vaccinated.” The rage she feels when she hears about parents not vaccinating their children... Sasha’s usually pretty cheery and always finds fun and hope in her work, but that’s one thing that’ll set her off.
The reverse roommates au!!! I see the vision!!! Also might I offer: they both work in healthcare, maybe at different hospitals, but kind of on opposite shifts (Levi in the morning, OC in the afternoon/night), all to come home and shit talk their respective hospital boards and healthcare systems. Mutual understanding of their situation and finding time to dote on the other even tho they’re barely holding it together themselves. Peak romance

Irrational - Chapter 5: I love you too much
HELLOOOOOOO!!! 🤩🤩
Here comes the fifth day of @spacecampweek with what is probably my favorite fic of the bunch! Little song-fic but not really situation in a normal world AU, where Krel is about to confess his feelings in a special way! 💕💕💕
Enjoy!! 😙
Summary: Prom is here at last, a night of entertainment, of happiness, to celebrate changes and the future. What better moment for Krel to finally express feelings that have been hidden for so long? Time to put those guitar lessons to some use...
Read it on the AO3
It was happening. No more holding back, no more thinking rationally about his chances without concluding a thing. Tonight, everything was going to change.
Prom had turned out to be an absolute oxymoron to walk into, between his deep appreciation for parties and his unsettledness at dealing with other people of different temperatures – or ‘cool’, as they liked to call themselves. Everyone was dancing like crazy, that was very good, and everyone was talking loud about nonsense, that was very not good. Adding to the unpleasantries was the music playing onto the stage, something pulsing yet in a hardly dynamic way. If this was another night, he would have liked to teach these people what real music sounded like and propose himself as a DJ, to properly say goodbye to Arcadia Oaks High. Then again, in another delson he would have not worn these kind of flashy clothes – he had lost the chance to call this a normal night the moment he had exited his house wearing a bow.
There was a lot of movement in the middle of the room, and in the middle some familiar faces. He could spot Jim’s questionable moves while Claire was laughing loudly with red cheeks, he could see Toby doing some robot moves while Darci danced along him, he managed to notice Aja spinning all over, between a super smiling Steve and an extremely radiant Eli.
It looked like they were all having fun, so much fun. Krel wasn’t… not yet.
“Hey Clint.”
He almost snorted at the sudden voice.
“Mary, I know you know my name at this point.”
“Whatever Kurt, whatcha up to?” The queen of the bees appeared in front of him, all sparkly in her pink shock dress. “Hank got all handsy, Dean is being shy, and that cute guy from Arcadia Oaks Academy that snuck in is being difficult. I’m up for some juice and it looks like you’re up to something.” And the queen of gossip too as well. She grinned at him, clearly playful. “Could it be you’ll stop being a wuss, at last? That would be nice!” He didn’t deny it. for a second. Big mistake, her eyes immediately widened, like she got struck by absolute knowledge. “Don’t tell me-”
He covered her mouth, realizing midway there that there was no point, the music was so loud it silenced everything. Despite that, he couldn’t bring her to say it. Not yet.
“Perhaps… maybe.”
Mary’s eyes turned into stars. She quickly wiped his hands off her.
“O-M-G, finally, I’ve been waiting for this for so long! Ha, I knew you were going to be the one to do it, Darci owes me five dollars! So does Logan! Pff, why was everyone betting on the space dork anyway… hey, what’s wrong?” She was perceptive. It happened after knowing each other for a couple of years. “Cheer up Kai.”
He laughed again. His chest felt like it was exploding, but in a good way. Seklos and Gaylen, for how long he had postponed what he was about to do, blaming time, work and consequences? It was terrifying in a way that was almost pleasant. Maybe. Perhaps.
“I am fine.” He swallowed, because of course the moment he had scanned the entire party, he had noticed it right away. Or rather, he had noticed a lack of him. “He… he is not here though.”
“He’s probably still bummed that he got into that accounting college his grumpy dad wants him to go but still doesn’t know about the engineering one.” Krel was holding his breath about that one too. Seamus had promised to be roommates in that case. Was it going to be weird if tonight wasn’t going to turn out the way he wanted? Was he going to be awkward around him? “Alright, I can smell burning thoughts, hashtag stopbeinganerd! You’re telling me you’re going to do it and I wanna know how, where and when, and if you try to chicken out now, I swear I’m gonna smash your precious guitar!” She sure knew how to get him riled up.
For the first time since he had come to this decision, Krel smiled, thinking of the backstage, the phases he had prepared into his head. He looked up, shaking his head.
“I believe that would be counterproductive for my plan.”
Mary’s mouth popped open, and if that wasn’t satisfying.
“No.”
“Kleb yes, I am not holding back.”
“That’s gonna be the bomb but you better don’t swoon anyone else, you dang charmer! I have all boy dates tonight and I wanna keep them focused on me only!” She giggled, patting his shoulder. “Just go for it, okay? You’re cool, even when you’re being a nerd.” It was as good of an encouragement as he could get right now. “Just wait until your dorky prince charming arri- Oh this is too perfect.” She was smirking, so much her makeup was scrunching up a little.
Krel didn’t have to turn around to know. He did it anyway.
What a view. This prince really wasn’t above physical appearance as he had first thought when he had arrived in Arcadia, powered by his absolute intellect, rationality, and general annoyance towards social interactions with amoebas. It had taken him a while, a whole while, to accept that even someone like him could get this soft inside.
Give then right time, and the right person.
Seamus was radiant, with the black jacket and the blue tie, with the polished shoes and the pulled back hair. From the relaxed eyes the discussion with his dad must had ended without a punishment, and he was actually smiling. Everything, he was so absolutely everything it made Krel choke up.
Mary was arching an eyebrow, although she most likely know what was going on. The prince swallowed, almost choking again, trying to keep his composure as usual.
Failing.
“… and… and you are absolutely sure…?”
“What in the world, Ken, yes! Yes he is completely head over heels for you, yes if you confess you bet your perfect grades he’s gonna reciprocate, yes the moment he will hear what you’ve prepared for him he might as well take a ring out of his pocket and propose in the middle of the dance room!” He grabbed his shoulders, shaking him a little. “You two are the absolute worst! C-bomb has actual guts to ask Jimmy Jam out, Darci and her Tobypie went for it naturally, even Steve is an idiot sometimes but not at dating and Aj and Eli practically gravitate around him! But you!!” She grabbed his collar, her stellar eyes turning into black holes. “You two are pining messes that I’m absolutely done with! So, I swear, Krel Tarron, if you don’t get on that stage and finally confess, you won’t have to make plans for college because this will be your last dance. Ever.” She could had stopped the threat at his actual name. That alone would have done it. Mary gave him the ‘I’m watching you gesture’, before backing down into the crowd without getting her eyes off.
Krel swallowed, nodded, watching her disappear into the party. Despite the dread of being murdered in cold blood being quite intense and even impressive, it was quickly washed away, as soon as Seamus looked at his direction with those blue eyes of him. There it was, that urge, that need to impress him somehow. It was their thing, the fulcrum of their rivalry that hadn’t stopped, even after years. The need to make the other break their mask of pride and turn it into amazement.
Bold enough, the prince grinned, winking at him. The way the blonde gaped warmed his heart. Was that pink on his cheeks? The lights were too strong and colorful, it was hard to tell.
Was it important? Not really. It was now or never.
Making his way towards the stage was a challenge itself, luckily his dancing skills were not to be ignored and swirling around these random kids was pretty easy and entertaining. The band was playing a pretty energetic movement, there was a keyboard player going absolutely nuts and a drummer doing their best. There was definitely something that could had been done to improve the whole performance – perhaps a few remixes on a DJ board, just saying –, but they were really into it. It almost felt bad going up there and show his own abilities.
Then again, Krel didn’t care.
He had a mission. With that determination in mind he immediately went behind the curtains of the stage, finding familiar locks of blue hair monitoring the situation. Having Douxie as the responsible one was still unusual, even though the ripped off pants and the numerous studs all over his suit were more likely. It probably wasn’t enough for him, he was tapping his foot over and over.
Krel cleared his voice, the older one turned, turning the frown into a smile.
“Krel, how’re you liking the show?” He snorted.
“Fine…” He really couldn’t help himself, it was too easy. “Would be better with some metal rock in it.” The smile was gone. Krel snorted again.
“Really, you’re going to put salt on it like that? Zoe already gives me a hard time because I didn’t get the Ash Dispersal Pattern to play here, don’t you get in the way too!” He turned to the band with a frown, shaking it. “‘Your music might not be a good example for the students’, fuzzbuckets, how old do you think these kids are?? Besides, how is techno a better alternative? Those moppets, I swear…” He muttered something under his breath, a curse most likely, then he sighed. “Alright, I’m fine. Extremely salty, but nothing a drink can solve later. I’m guessing you’re here to ask me something?” Perceptive. All of his friends had to be with him.
“Something like that, yeah…” He breathed in and breathed out, he was absolutely going for it but it didn’t make any of this easier for him. “Alright, I need a favor?”
Douxie smirked, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Oh yeah? You need a favor from this random guy who got nominated supervisor as cold comfort for not having his band play tonight? Little old me?” He snickered, shaking his head. “Should have thought before you came here to mock, shouldn’t ya?”
“Hisirdoux…”
“Nope, can’t let this one go, I’m out of patience tonight and I need to get at least one gratification. How about you apologize to me? I’ll even help, start with ‘You are the best guitarist I’ve ever known’ and… whoa, wait, what are you doing?” Was it a bluff? Krel was bowing already, but perhaps his brain was messed up tonight. “Dude, how are you actually doing it? What is this favor all about?” Oh. Right. He was the most prideful person on the planet. He had almost forgot.
Krel straightened up, shrugging a little. From the tone of the current song, it seemed that this band was almost done. He peaked from behind the curtain. Seamus was talking with Steve, giggling a little. The prince couldn’t help clenching his hand around the shirt over his chest. Ah, he wanted this, he wanted all of this.
He felt a familiar wave of warm. He turned back to the guitarist, and Douxie was gaping, blinking several times. It was probably clear.
“I want to make an exhibition.” His honey eyes widened.
“… yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“… alright then.” Douxie smiled, pointing at the backstage with his head. “Prepare yourself Lover Boy, I’m announcing you right after this.” If it wasn’t to preserve what was left of his pride, Krel would have hugged him. “Is it DJ Kleb time?”
Krel moved a few steps towards the back. He stopped.
“No,” He turned to the guitarist, smirking. “It is Krel time.”
 ***
“Alright, give it up for ‘The Raise of the Titans’! Amazing performance you guys, can’t wait to properly see you on Wednesday!” Douxie always looked confident on stage, he was born to have the attention of a public. It was something he and Krel had in common. Right now though, there was only one look the prince wanted all for himself. “Hope you’re having a blast tonight! How’s prom going?” A cheer followed. “That’s great, because we have a special exhibition right now. A special song, for a special someone! Give it up for Krel Tarron!”
The wood under his feet made a sound after every step, it was drowned by the voiced in the crowd. It made him smile thinking how many people were going to be surprised by his presence, his appearance, and especially him appearing with a guitar instead of his beloved keyboard. There was a single stool in the middle of the place, with a microphone already adjusted for his high. He thought that really needed to thank Douxie after this, for everything, as he sat down with the instrument on his lap. He had accorded it while he was in the backstage, but out of habit he did it again, the sound reverberating into his mind. It was like a reality check, a call to the place, as he finally looked up to the public.
Aja looked close to crying, absolutely overjoyed. Mary was smirking so much her cheek looked like it was being pulled. Steve looked absolutely astonished. Toby was grinning impossibly wide. Eli had his glasses shining and a bit smile. Jim had amazed eyes over him. Claire looked ecstatic. Darci was giving him a thumbs up. Everyone was there, everyone.
And then there was him. Him, adorably confused and starstruck.
Krel grinned. I hope you are ready for this, you math blonde.
“This song is for a dear person to me. I have never been able to express my feelings properly before. I have never been particularly good at.” He let another note fill his silence, it made him smile again. “But I will not shy away from it, not anymore. I went through everything with you, high school, my problems, your problems, math and space and everything between,” There was no doubt, not anymore. “I want to go beyond now.”
His mind was peaceful, his body was burning. It felt like he had never been more alive before. His fingers knew what to do, that song was a part of him. He just took a deep breath, and let the music take over.
 I love you too much
To leave without you loving me back
I love you too much
Heaven’s my witness and this is a fact
I know I belong, when I sing this song
There’s love above love and it’s ours
‘cause I love you too much
It used to be just him, his mind, and his sister. Them against the world, with a mother that wanted her to be proper, with a father that wanted him not to be him. Everything had turned out so badly at first without them, and so not badly after, to the point he had managed to make an actual life away from Cantaloupia. Then, the escape had become home. Then, it he had become the place where he had met the only guy that was ever going to make him feel.
It used to be just him, his mind, and his sister. Now it was him and his sister, friends and family, a home and the world, and so many feelings in between. This was the right place, this was the right time, this was the right guy.
It used to be just him, his mind, and his sister. Now he could hardly imagine himself without the blonde in the picture, the one that could cloud his mind and fill his heart.
 I live for your touch
I whisper your name night after night
I love you too much
There’s only one feeling and I know it’s right
I know I belong, when I sing this song
There’s love above love and it’s ours
‘cause I love you too much
The two of them weren’t the easiest people to deal with, their lives weren’t the easiest lives to deal with. It had been because of a cruel game of destiny or a lucky shot from faith that they had found each other, Krel at Seamus’ door whenever he felt like he didn’t matter, and Seamus at Krel’s whenever he felt like exploding? Was it bad that in their worst some of their sweetest moments together were born? Was it bad that overwise they might had not become this much of friends?
They were living in a world that was cruel and unforgiving, with people even less likely to welcome them. Krel liked to think that by knowing each other, they had managed to overcome that obstacle, and meet also the people that were fine. That were okay.
They were okay. He was okay.
He had never forgotten that one moment of them, not once.
Heaven knows your name I’ve been praying
To have you come here by my side
Without you a part of me is missing
Just to make you my own, I will fight
The song was a tragically familiar one. During the worst of his pining, when he thought he was never going to be good enough for him, when he thought that he didn’t deserve to feel something this pure and breathtaking, this had always been the song. Shannon had taught him the first notes after she had gifted him the guitar after a curious sequence of events, and then Douxie had taken over teaching him all he had needed to know. It was all so familiar now he hardly had to think about how to move, where to put his fingers, if it was too strong or just okay. It was cheesy in a way he never thought he could possibly be, with feelings he never thought he could have.
Aja had always listened from her room, he knew she had even though she had never said it, because before going to sleep the same delson she had always come to hug him. Mary had always told him that playing a love song to cure his – stupid – pained heart seemed a little counterproductive. Maybe she was right. But even if everything was to end tonight, he didn’t care.
He liked love. He loved love. He loved Seamus.
 I know I belong
When I sing this song
There’s love above love and it’s ours
‘cause I love you too much
Caught by the sudden burst into his chest Krel stood up, almost making his stool fall down. He didn’t care. Right there the crowd’s cheering came to his ears, and despite how much he wanted to scan the place and look for that familiar strawberry blonde mane in between, he forced himself not to. Not yet, not until he said everything, not until he was sure he had delivered everything he had inside. He shushed his mind and let the rest of his body sing.
 I love you too much!
I love you too much
Heaven’s my witness and this is a fact
You live in my soul, your heart is my goal
There’s love above love and it’s mine, ‘cause I love you
There’s love above love and it’s yours, ‘cause I love you
There’s love above love and it’s ours, if you love me…
… as much
When the last note left his instrument, an urge to cry mixed to an absolute pride took over. He did it, he actually did it. In his mind the song was still echoing, beautifully in the open as it was always supposed to be played. He was drained and so, so happy.
Then, as his head finally allowed in something other than exhaustion, it finally hit him the amount of people that was watching, and how crazy there were going with that applause. It was reverberating all over, he was surprised he noticed it only now. Steve was holding onto Eli and Aja, every single one of them looked close to tears. Mary was shouting something to one of her current dates, pointing at the stage then back at her, probably something like “I know him, he’s my friend, he’s cool because I’m cool, good old Kevin”. Toby was jumping up and down, with Darci laughing and applauding. Jim and Claire were holding onto each other, clapping with fervor. It was good, everything was so good right now.
Finally, Krel allowed himself to look.
Right then, his hear broke.
He wasn’t there. Seamus wasn’t there anymore. No blue tie around, no lock of blonde hair, no red freckles in sight. There was no way this prince couldn’t find him, so…
He left. He didn’t stay for him. He didn’t.
“How about that, huh?? Krel Tarron, everyone!!” Suddenly Douxie was by his side, Krel didn’t look at him. It hurt. He thought it wasn’t going to matter, but it hurt. “He will be all over you for autographs and junk later, let him rest for a moment, and welcome the next exhibition of the night!” His arm was onto his shoulders. Krel didn’t move. He didn’t want to. Then he got a squeeze, and he looked up out of pure instinct. Douxie was still smirking, like his heart hadn’t just gotten smashed against the solid ground of the ballroom. He pointed to the exist and Krel, sighing, obeyed.
He crossed the next couple of performers, who patted his back telling him how good he had been. It didn’t feel like a proud moment anymore. It felt like a waste. The guitar was hanging onto him by the lace, luckily, he would have forgotten it on the stage overwise. Krel sighed, putting the instrument down as soon as he was behind the curtains. He could deal with this.
He didn’t want to, but he could. He just needed some time to-
His hold was callous and warm. The prince knew it so well he almost didn’t have to turn. He did. Seamus had his entire face flushed. He looked outstanding.
“Come with me.” His voice was low, almost fearful, and Krel could do nothing other than follow his lead. He was dragged along as they were staying as far away from the crowd as possible, going for the exit. If anyone had noticed them, Krel was sure Steve or Mary would have taken care of them. As soon as they were out of the room, it was silence. The school looked almost dormant like this, without lights around, the abandoned lockers circling the corridors.
It was going to be one of the last times, in this special place.
There was little time for that kind of nostalgia, as they didn’t walk for long anyway. Seamus seemed in a hurry, he was moving forward without a single word. It almost made the prince fear that he had gone too far and had made him mad. Some more uncharacteristic apologies brushed his lips, at least as a precaution, no matter how weird it was going to be.
They died into his throat as soon as he was pressed against the wall. The echo of the music was gone. There were only those impossible blue eyes getting closer and closer and-
Krel would have laughed. He would have laughed in any other occasion, because this guy was rough and prideful and used to be really bad at dealing with his anger issues. Yet he kissed with the outmost gentleness, like he was genuinely afraid of breaking him, like he was terrified that at any point something was going to wake them up from this dream. Krel wanted to hold onto this dream. He held onto him, hands reaching for his shoulders, then up into his hair. They were not fluffy at all. Again, he would have laughed if he wasn’t this overwhelmed by the fact that this was happening, that Seamus was kissing him and it was happening. The hold onto his mane must had woken up the blonde, as he moved forward with urge, breathing in and taking more.
It was marvelous. It was uncertain and clumsy and they were both really inexperienced at this, and it was marvelous. Slowly the timing was getting clearer for the both of them, because despite pride and their social skills they were instead really good at learning and understanding. The rhythm drowned them both, and it almost made Krel forget he had lungs. It got him there, the urge for air, and he let out almost a strangled noise when he got out of one last kiss.
Seamus was panting just as hard, if not harder, his pupils blown. Krel had never seen him like this, it was a whole new side. He wanted to know it. He really wanted this.
“Sea-”
“Shut it.” Another kiss that made him hum, it was sweeter than before. He almost forgot the words. When he tried to talk again Seamus promptly kissed him again. He completely forgot the words. “You said more than enough, now it’s my turn.” The blonde was smiling of that beautiful smile again. “I’m gonna make every single word count.” His hand went over his hair, caressing his brown locks like they were precious treasures to keep. The urge to cry came back.
Along with another desire, that made Krel come back to his senses and smirk.
Once again, rivalry.
“Aren’t you an overachiever?” Seamus hummed questioning, brushing their noses together. It was too good, the prince giggled. “There are exactly 212 words into my song.” It was too perfect. This wasn’t an out of the world experience, this was the natural consequence of their relationship. Seamus was holding him, and he really didn’t want to be anywhere else.
The blonde seemed taken back by his words, for almost a full second, only to laugh. He brought him even closer, breathing against his lips.
The world disappeared. Prom could wait.
“Better start counting then.” He lunged forward, a quick press closer to a caress. “One,” Another one, deeper but still quick, that made Krel naturally lean back. “Two…” This time it was proper, making him decide that he didn’t really need his mind right now. There was no issue, no invention in standby, no math problem to solve. He could allow himself this. “Three.” He could take every single part of him, as a reward in a way, as a present even more. Without a single remorse Krel laced his arms around his neck, deepening every following kiss.
They stopped counting after nine.

Tumblr media
The world was spinning when Beth woke up the next morning, so she decided it wasn't even worth it to open her eyes. That's until she remembered how the night had ended, and her eyes flew open.
“Oh thank god,” she muttered when she learned she was alone in her bed. For a while she just lay there in silence, listening for any sounds in her apartment, when she was certain that she was alone she decided to get up. Groaning, she rolled out of bed and threw a blanket around her shoulders before she padded to the kitchen in need of water, Advil, and bacon.
She furrowed her brows at the little note on her table, her tired and puffy eyes having a hard time concentrating on the words.
Thanks for a fun night! Sorry to sneak out before dawn, but duty calls. I realized that I didn't get your number, so I'm gonna leave you with mine just in case you want a re-run. No pressure.
- Jay
Beth groaned as she balled up the paper. “Nice jobb, dumbass,” she scolded herself.
Thanks to the copious amount of alcohol she had consumed last night, her nerves were fried, so when there was a knock on the door, she jumped. For a second she just stared at the door, very annoyed with the person on the other side of it.
“Good morning, player,” Gabby greeted in a chipper tone, smiling from ear to ear. “You look like shit,” she added as she handed Beth a cup of coffee she had brought for her.
“I look better than I feel then,” Beth mumbled as she took the styrofoam cup from her friend. She didn't even invite her in, just turned around and started making her way back to the kitchen.
“You alone?” Gabby asked, tentatively looking around the small apartment.
“Why?” Beth asked, snapping her head around so fast she thought she might throw up. Damn hangover.
“You know Jay works with my brother right?” she deadpanned. “Plus, Otis and Hermann were still at the bar when you two left. So was Kelly - my roommate,” she summarized.
“Gossip spreads faster through a firehouse than it does through my family. I'm impressed,” Beth said with annoyance in her voice.
“Tell me about it,” Gabby agreed. “Look… I had Matt drive me downtown to get your car-” she handed Beth the keys - “He's outside and we really have to get to work. I just wanted to get you your keys and check in.”
“Thanks,” Beth said softly. “I'm good. A little embarrassed, and a lot hungover, but I'll live.”
“Nothing to be embarrassed about,” Gabby assured. “You are both consenting adults, nothing wrong with having a little fun.”
“I know. Just thinking that getting over someone by getting under someone else might not be the best plan of action,” Beth said with a dry chuckle.
“Fair point,” Gabby agreed. “Look, can we catch up later?” She was clearly stressed and in a rush to get to work, so the two said their goodbyes and then she was out the door.
Beth threw back some Advil, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and then went straight back to bed, hoping she would be able to sleep away the hangover before she had to be at work that afternoon. At least she knew that everyone at 51 would be working that night so she wouldn't have to run into any of them. And by any of them, she meant one in particular.
***
A couple of days went by without Beth really socializing with anyone. She hid in her apartment as much as she could, still sort of embarrassed by the events of the other night.
That night there was quite the crowd at Molly’s, so Beth was more than a little relieved when Gabby showed up to help out. It was crazy busy, but it didn't take long before Beth realized that something was up with her friend. Behind Gabby’s beautiful smile, there was a hint of sadness and at the first opportunity, Beth dragged her friend to the end of the bar so they could talk privately.
The past two days had been crazy. Mills and Brett, the two EMTs, had been kidnapped, but ultimately found in one piece. Chief Boden and his wife, Donna, had their baby, but little Baby Boden had some complications and was still being treated at the hospital. Kelly had broken things off with his wife and sent her back to Florida. It was a lot of information to get all at once, but they didn't have time to go into too much detail.
“And today, this gorgeous blonde comes trotting into the station on ten inch heels, looking for Matt. I ask her what it was about and then she hands me his phone and announces that he had left it at her place when he left that morning,” Gabby explained, finishing up the tale of crazy that had been going on.
“What?!” Beth exclaimed. “He cheated on you?”
“No. Turns out it was Severide’s bimbo and Matt had just crashed on the couch,” she said. “I'm just.. I think I'm just starting to realize that we’re not gonna make it through this,” she concluded with a heavy sigh.
“What are you going to do?” Beth asked, trying not to put too much thought into the whole Kelly part of the story.
Gabby just shrugged, and before she could say anything else, Jay walked up and interrupted them. “I'm gonna go- uhm - be somewhere else,” Gabby said awkwardly before hurrying away.
Beth had dreaded this moment since the other night. She wasn't really a one night stand kind of girl, so this situation was a little unfamiliar to her. “Hey,” she said a little awkwardly. Jay’s smile was very charming as he greeted her back. “Gabby just filled me in on what's been going on. Seems like you’ve had a few busy days,” she noted.
The intelligence squad that Jay worked for had been the ones that helped find Brett and Mills. “Yeah,” he nodded. “But we got them back in one piece, and the bad guys are behind bars, which is all that matters.”
“Good job, Detective,” she complimented. “Can I get you a drink?”
“I'm actually on call,” he said simply. “I just came by to say hey. Maybe see if you have any plans tomorrow?”
Fuck. “Look-” Beth started, not really knowing what to say. “I had a really great time the other night-”
Jay cut her off. “But you’re not really looking for anything right now,” he finished without any accusation in his voice, still with that charming smile on his face.
“It's just that I'm trying to get over someone and I don't think using you as a rebound is fair on either one of us,” she tried to explain. Jay was smart, kind, and funny, and under different circumstances she would be all over this. However, right now wasn't the time for them.
“Lieutenant Severide?” he asked. Beth didn't answer him, but he definitely knew. “Alright then. We still good?”
“I hope so,” Beth said.
He leaned down and placed a chaste kiss to her cheek before saying goodbye and heading back to work.
***
The evening went by in a hurry and before they knew it, Gabby was shooing the last of the customers out the door, locking it behind them while Beth grabbed them each a beer so they could finish the talk they started on earlier.
“I have to get out of Matt's house,” she suddenly said. “Two months ago, if that girl had shown up at the firehouse like she did today, my first thought would have been that there's a reasonable explanation here. Now, though, my first instinct was that he had cheated on me and I - I don't know. I'm just thinking that it's already over between us.”
Beth didn't really know what to say, but she had seen how they had struggled for the past couple of months. “If you need a place to crash, my door is always open. And my couch is surprisingly comfortable,” she offered.
“Thank you,” Gabby said with a half hearted smile. “Tonight?”
“Absolutely,” Beth said, pulling her friend into a hug. “And for the record, I think that you and Matt will figure this all out. Maybe not right away, but I do believe in the two of you.”
“You’re a good friend, Beth.”
Both of them were more than ready to call it a night and go back to Beth’s for some much needed rest, but it turned out that the evening wasn't quite over for Beth yet.
When they stepped out of Molly’s the first thing they saw was Kelly, leaning against his blue Mustang, waiting for her.
“You have a minute?” he asked, looking at Beth as he pushed himself off of the car and taking a few steps closer to them.
Beth fished her keys out of her pocket and handed them to Gabby. “I'll be right there,” she assured.
“You sure?” Gabby questioned, looking between Beth and Kelly, but when Beth nodded her head, she turned on her heel and walked away.
“What's that about?” Kelly asked, shoving his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.
Not my place to say,” she stated simply. “Why are you here?” It was a chilly night and Beth tugged her jacket tighter around her body to shield her from the cold wind.
“I just wanted to apologize for the other night. It wasn't my place to say anything.”
“Apology accepted. That all?” she asked coldly.
Kelly didn't say anything, his mind busy searching for words he couldn't find.
“Alright then. Good talk,” she said sarcastically as she took a few steps backwards before starting to turn away.
“No. Wait,” he said, making her stop in her tracs. “You said that you hoped we could find a way to be friends down the line… Guess I just needed to know that I didn't fuck that up.”
“You didn't,” she assured. “But we’re not there yet. At least I'm not.”
“Anything I can do to help you get there?” he wondered, taking a few steps closer to her. He desperately missed her. Her smile. Her laugh. Her touch. He knew that he had ruined any chance of a relationship between them, but he couldn't stand the thought of losing her completely.
“Space and time, just like I asked for. I told you that as long as you’re seeking answers at the bottom of a bottle-”
“I promise you that I'm done with that,” he vowed, cutting her off.
“So you weren't out with Matt - two days after your wife left- getting drunk and crawling into someone else's bed?” She wasn't angry at him, but the accusation and jealousy in her voice was clear as day.
“That's different,” he defended.
“I shouldn't have brought that up,” she said quietly. It had nothing to do with them really, and it wasn't like she hadn't done the same thing with Jay.
“That's okay,” he assured.
“Look,” she said with a deep sigh. “Honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything that happened between us, and what happened after.”
“What are you saying?”
“That I care about you,” she admitted, looking up into his eyes. “Probably more than I should. And I have no idea where to go from here.”
Hope rose in him at her words, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Beth, I'm not the kind of guy that shows up in the middle of the night to make amends. I care about you too, a lot.” It was so great to finally get that off his chest, to finally admit to her how he felt.
“Yeah. You showed me just how much when you went to Vegas and married the first girl you met,” she accused.
Now he was confused again. “I made a mistake, Beth,” he pleaded.
“I can't do this,” she said, slowly taking a few steps backwards. “I hope we can be friends one day, Kelly. I really do. But I can't do this dance with you right now.” She shook her head as she turned around and started on the short walk home, not stopping or looking back as he called out her name.

Enemies to Lovers Noah Sexton x dawson!reader
requested by: @bitweird1
written by: @anotheronechicagobog
Warnings: swearing, mature themes, child neglect, slightly Dawson bashing but they really just didn’t know, canon compliant threats
Tumblr media
You had spent your entire life struggling and working your ass off. No social life, extracurriculars for the sole purpose of applying to universities, and spending the majority of your life studying because according to your dad at least one Dawson had to become a doctor and your older siblings had decided that it wouldn’t be them, leaving you to do nothing but prepare for the future that had been hand-picked by the man you felt abandoned you. And then Noah fucking Sexton just waltzes in having put in half the effort and riding the coattails of his much more intelligent sister who gave up a career as a doctor because of sexism. He spent far too much of his time flirting with everything that had boobs and a pulse. You didn’t like him because he took nothing seriously and didn’t have a responsible bone in his body, and he hated you because you were incredibly uptight and didn’t have a sense of humour.
“Maybe you’d have more friends here if you didn’t have a stick shoved up your ass.”
“I’m not here to make friends, I’m here to become a doctor.”
Everyone was getting really sick of your fighting, so they banded together and made things worse. They had badgered you until Doris had enough and dragged you to Molly’s. You refused to drink or eat anything, resulting in more snide remarks between you and Noah. Just when everyone was developing a migraine before they were anywhere even close to drunk your parents burst through the door and marched over to you. And suddenly, everyone in the bar, including your siblings, were subjected to and twenty-minute rant from your parents about how you should be grateful they pushed you towards medical school and all the activities that got you scholarships, that they didn’t abandon you, and that they clothed and fed you because a third child cost so much money, how you never took anything seriously and were always joking around, and how you were a disgrace to the family. Once they finished, your dad dragged you out by your arm, your mom followed muttering about why couldn’t you be more like Gabby and Antonio.
You walked into the ED the next day as robotic as ever. The pitiful and awkward stares were ignored with ease, it was something you were quite used to if you were honest. Your parents were always scrutinized by your teachers and DCFS. At the end of the day, though, they weren’t abusive enough for any charges or housing changes to be set. They weren’t like that with Gabby and Antonio, who had mostly moved out by the time you were in kindergarden, you were their last chance to help them prove to their family that they didn’t fail as parents. And they made sure you knew it.
“Dr. Dawson, you’ve got a patient in treatment one. Also, uh, are you okay? I feel pretty bad about last night.”
“Oh, don’t worry about anything. I’m fine, and my parents were right I should’ve been studying. It was a poor decision on my part not to. I’m gonna get to this patient, but you really don’t need to feel bad, okay?”
She nodded absently as you turned your back to her. ”Hi, I'm Dr. Dawson, can you tell me what brought you in today?”
---------------------------------
Your patient had just gone up to the OR to have a blood clot removed and you made your way to the doctor’s lounge, followed by Noah Sexton. ”Hey, Y/N, are you-”
”Yes, Noah, I am okay. Yes, I'm sure. I am fine, I am always fine.”
”From my experience when people say they're fine they're usually not.”
”Noah, I am okay.”
“I don’t believe you.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next few weeks were a maze of pitiful stares, hushed concerned words, and a silent Noah. All of it was completely unnerving. It all came to a head when Dr. Charles approached in the ED you about starting therapy with him, talking continuously about all the points ‘brought to his attention’, not even giving you the time to tell him the majority were false. “Excuse me?”
Your stomach coiled in anger at his words. Not only were you more than capable of doing your job, but you already had a therapist. With basket case parents like yours, it was blatantly obvious that therapy was required. But the audacity of your co-workers to gossip so much that it came to the point over half the points Charles brought up were complete BS was astounding. Not only that, but he’d apparently spent the last few days internet stalking you to try and find some of your demons. “Dr. Charles, do you consider me a danger or liability to any of the patients or doctors at this hospital because of my relationship with my parents?”
“No, you actually seem to be well balanced mentally.”
“Then what, on earth, made you think it was appropriate to go around behind my back asking everyone at the hospital their opinion about me and what happened at Molly’s, or stalk me online to try and get a read on me, and then ask me blatantly at work, in the middle of the shift, in front of all my co-workers and superiors? What made you think it was okay to loudly bombard me with rumours and hearsay while I’m working?”
“Well, I thought that since it’s my job to check on all the ED docs, I’d check on you.”
“... You’re joking, right? I am the only person in this department who goes to therapy. Don’t kid yourself, you don’t check on anyone here. You judge them and make sure they know it. And quite honestly, you don’t have the best reputation for looking out for the mental and emotional state of your colleagues. This confrontation was not only completely inappropriate, but rude, obnoxious, presumptuous, riddled with unchecked errors, and unprofessional.”
“That’s not how I would word it.”
“It’s how I see it, and how I’ll word it with HR.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No one was pitying you anymore, not since the tongue lashing you gave Dr. Charles, who was on very thin ice with the hospital. While bringing up Robin and Sarah may have been a bit of a low blow, it exposed some issues with Dr. Charles that needed to be addressed. The only person who acted as if you were made of glass was Noah Sexton. While he had been a bit of a pain in the ass, this was worse. He was being sickeningly nice to you and it was getting on your last nerve. Yes, your parents were abusive. Yes, you had a messed up and traumatic childhood. But did that limit your abilities? No. Did that make you mentally unstable requiring therapy and fragility from your coworkers? Absolutely not.
He came in with coffee exactly the way you liked it, again. With a muffin, again. “You have to stop.”
“Stop what, Y/N?”
“Stop acting weird. You don’t like me, you hate me, actually. The only reason you’re being nice to me is because my parents resent my existence. I do not need or want your pity. So stop treating me like a china doll, and start treating me like your coworker.”
“Okay, okay, I uh... I’m sorry. I just, I feel guilty, okay? I gave you such a hard time for being so frigid and then when your parents showed up at Molly’s and started screaming at you for existing and having a life of your own, it just all made sense. And I gave you shit and trouble for coping with your crazy-ass parents. And then Dr. Charles came by to talk to you and I just felt even worse because even though I didn’t tell him anything, it was our fighting that put the spotlight on you in the first place. You shouldn’t have had your dirty laundry aired to the entire hospital, that’s happened to me a few times and it’s horrible, and I feel bad because I know that I was a contributing factor to all the shit you’ve had to deal with at work.”
“I get where you’re coming from, but let’s be real, everything would’ve turned out exactly the same way if you weren’t involved. The gossip mill runs strong at Gaffney.”
“Yeah, it does. I still feel bad.”
“Well, you’re forgiven then. So you can stop treading delicately, buying me coffee, and being creepily nice to me.”
“I am not being ‘creepily nice’! And how can being nice be creepy anyway?”
“Yesterday you followed me around offering to help me take my gloves on and off constantly, to the point where a patient who came in for falling out of the ceiling above the women’s changeroom said ‘that’s just weird’.”
“... Okay. I’ll stop. But I gotta be honest, I don’t think I can go back to arguing with you all the time.”
“That’s fine, just stop acting so weird that a couple I caught having kinky sex after an STD swab said ‘that made us really uncomfortable’.”
“Don’t have to tell me twice. Seriously, you didn’t have to tell me twice.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIX MONTHS LATER
You and Noah had actually managed to become good friends and roommates. Shortly after he started acting like a normal person around you, not an instigator or a psycho, you found yourself enjoying his company. And yesterday, when you’d come home to find your room completely torn apart by your mother because your father had tried to frame you for using weed, you were done. Most of what you owned had been destroyed in your mother’s search, which sucked, but it made packing up all your stuff into your car much easier.
So far you’d ignored 43 texts, 12 calls, two visits from Gabby when she brought in a patient, and one visit from Antonio who didn’t even bother trying to lie to you. He also threatened to impound your car, you threatened to tell Voight about the time he and Lindsay got drunk and hooked up. It didn’t even matter that she was in New York now, Voight wouldn’t even blink before bludgeoning him down. He swore at you, “how could you break mami’s heart like this?”, and “can’t you just behave and do what you’re told for once?”
You looked him dead in the eyes, heart beating erratically at you older brother supporting your parents belittling and abusing you, “You sound like dad Antonio.”, watched his face fall, and left. Noah stopped him when he went to follow you. “You good?”
“Uh, not really. I don’t have a place to go tonight.”
“Did your mom kick you out?”
“No, I left. I can’t do it anymore. I break out in hives whenever I even think about my mother now. I just can’t go back.”
“Well, you don’t have to. I have been looking for a roommate, we can move you into my place after shift.”
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely.”
“Now come on, it’s prank week. Stohl pissed off Manning last week and she’s been planning revenge ever since, you do not want to miss this.”
And you didn’t. You entered the ED to find one of the most hated doctors in med spitting out Gatorade. “WHaT thE heLL?! That was sooo-ughghghg-” he couldn’t even finish his sentence before running to the doctor’s lounge to throw up in the bathroom. To Natalie’s credit, she didn’t crack a smile or react at all as she gracefully stepped over the spilled orange Gatorade. She briefly reminded you of a fae, graceful, beautiful, and cunning as all hell. You made a mental note never to cross her. Later at lunch, Natalie opened her sushi container, slightly deconstructed each piece, loaded all the pieces up with wasabi, reconstructed them, and popped one in her mouth. Everyone sitting near her had their eyes flash in recognition. Stohl had a habit of stealing other people’s food, and no matter how many times anyone told him to stop, they were just bullied into compliance. As a result, everyone had to dictate their food choices around his palette. Which meant no spicy food. Something that sucked for nearly everyone because hot food was a favourite for most people in the ED. But Manning wasn’t taking his shit. Not today. Something that worried everyone sitting around her because she would get in trouble for eating her own food how she liked it. It wasn’t until one of the HR workers, Holly, sat down beside Natalie and engaged in conversation that everyone realized the full scope of her plans. Stohl plopped down beside you and stole half of your sandwich right out of your hand. Ranting and raving, insulting everyone, stealing food, he made his way all around the circular cafeteria table until he got to Nat. He scooped up to pieces and threw them in his mouth just after he finished the words ‘insolent underlings’. Everyone held their breath as they watched his pale face redden exponentially. His eyes widened. And then he screamed.
He yelled, he swore. “I’m going to report you to HR! You tried to poison me!”
“You stole food from everyone, something inappropriate, unethical, and unprofessional. You stole her food. That she made spicy to her tastes. She didn’t try to poison you.”
“And just who the fuck do you think you are?!”
“Holly Scott, from HR.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and Noah were doing great, as roommates and as friends. “Hey, do you have any plans for dinner tonight? My parents invited me over for dinner and they asked me to extend an invite to you. It’s nothing major, they wanted to meet my previous roommates, too. Make sure you’re not a hooligan.”
“Okay, sounds fun. What should I bring?”
“Yourself...?”
“It’s rude to show up at someone else’s home without a gift.”
“You don’t need to bring my parents a gift.”
“Oh, I’m bringing a gift. I’m just asking you for some input.”
“Okay, well they really like wheelie shoes-”
“Ha, oh my god, I meant for what your parents would like, not you. And want wheelie shoes? Those have been out for a while, Noah.”
“Hey, do not laugh at me! They are just a very effective and fun way to get around.”
“Would you like them to light up too?”
“... Is that an option?”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You knocked on the door while Noah rolled his eyes at you. “I grew up here!”
“Well you don’t live here anymore and it’s rude to just barge into someone’s home and act like you own the place.”
“Oh, you must be Y/N! I wasn’t expecting anyone to knock, usually, Noah just barges in and acts like he owns the place. Come in, come in. It’s freezing outside.” You gave Noah a side-eyed smirk as you took off your coat, while he looked bashfully embarrassed. “Uh, here Ms. Sexton, I brought some homemade empanadas, they can be put in the fridge or kept in the freezer, and it’s best to reheat them in the oven. 350 F, ten minutes from the fridge and about 20 if they were put in the freezer.”
“Oh, you really didn’t have to do that.”
“I was raised that when you go over to someone’s house for dinner or an event, you bring a gift. And it was either this or a house plant.”
“Ha, good idea going with the food, it’s a Sexton family trait that will kill all the plants we touch. Thank you very much.”
“Hello, you must be Y/N. It;s wonderful to meet you- and what smells so good?”
“Y/N brought empanadas, and they are going away so that you and I can enjoy them later. Now everyone, to the dining room, dinner is just about done.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things started to change a bit a few months later when Choi had to physically restrain Noah from attacking a drunk bar fight patient who called you a slut in the middle of the ED. You’d been confused but Maggie just kept saying that it was a matter of time.
When you’d been hanging around at Molly’s with Noah, Sarah, and Darren, Noah had his arm casually wrapped around your shoulders, something your sister gave you the eyebrow for from her place at the bar.
After you’d been mugged and beaten, you’d run to the 21st, where your brother promptly unleashed the most fearsome demon hell has ever cowered from, AKA Hank Voight, he also called Noah. And when your brother finally made an arrest and got Voight to calm down a little, he’d entered the breakroom to find you fast asleep, curled up against Noah. Who sat in an incredibly uncomfortable position, holding you and stroking your back. You missed the dark look that crossed his face, or the one of fear that had crossed Noah’s but something of an understanding had fallen to Noah. The two of you needed to talk.
So you did, and it went well, so well that you planned a date. Then another one. And another one, until you two had been dating for six months and figured it was time to tell your families. You were shaking in your boots, the Sexton’s were all incredibly close and incredibly doting on Noah, so even though they liked you, you had absolutely no clue as to what the reaction would be. To your relief, it was happiness, they loved you as much as Noah apparently, and they relished in the changed you’d caused in Noah.
Your family, on the other hand, did not react well. Which was why you’d made sure that you told them in a very public place, and had only ordered waters before you told them. There was yelling, screaming, your father waving his arms around so much Antonio had to use his cop voice on him. In the end, you and Noah had been there for around five minutes before throwing some cash at the waitress as a tip for leaving her with your family, and hauling ass out of there. The two of you had ended up just eating pizza on the boardwalk in your fancy clothes and heading back to the apartment late. You both had work the next day, but while you were an intern, Noah was not. And while you were off giving a patient a sponge bath, your siblings cornered Noah at the nurses desk. “Sexton, is there a place the three of us can talk?”
“Uh, sure, this conference room is free...”
“Perfect.”
“So, I take it this is about-”
“Nuh-uh. You do not talk. We do.”
“You are dating our baby sister.”
“We may not be as close to her as you are with your sister, but she still means a lot to us.”
“We love her. We are two people with some pretty dangerous skills. It is for these two reasons that you will not hurt her. Ever.”
“And if you do, don’t forget who I work with.”
“No one will ever find your body.”
“Are we clear?”
“Uh, hmmh... Clear. Crystal clear.”
“Good. Now do you know where Y/N is? We’d like to take the both of you out to lunch or something, just the four of us, to make up for the dinner of many disasters.”

Come Home to My Heart, Chapter 9 (Lemyanka) - Plastiquedoll
read on ao3 ✨| previous chapters
A/N: ANGST :D LACK OF COMMUNICATION BOTTLED-UP FEELINGS… This is a little re-cap from Lemon’s pov to fill some blank spaces and now ONE MORE CHAPTER TO GO! I hope you enjoy it and thanks for reading it! <3
-9-
Somewhere in New York City, two weeks ago.
Lemon was packing her things for the trip, she’d still have to pick Rita up from the airport and refuel before hitting the road. She was already low-key stressed out by the traffic reports when Jan walked into her bedroom.
“Hey, Lemony. Are you still packing?”
“I need to get those things inside my suitcase.” She pointed at the pile of clothing that was still sitting on her bed. “And I want to leave early in the morning to get the most sunlight on the way there.”
“Okay, I’ll help you closing the suitcase, to begin with,” Jan said, trying to help her afflicted roommate.
Once they were done, the blonde was still clearly uneasy about the whole road trip.
“What’s the matter?”
“I don’t know… I have this feeling in my chest… something about all this.”
“Lemz, I told you, you have to cry when you feel like or the anguish is going to blow up when you less expect it.”
“No, it’s not that –although, thanks for the reminder- it’s something else…”
Jan waited.
“I dreamt of Priyanka last night.”
“Oh…”
“It was a weird dream I can barely remember a thing, we were like ten again and we were in the local swimming pool and then we were twenty again… I don’t know.” Lemon sat on the edge of her bed.
“Maybe it’s a sign. Something in your subconscious is taking you back to her.” Jan wasn’t a psychology major but sometimes it felt like she was.
“I… why? It’s been seven years since we last met and it didn’t end well. Why now?”
“Because seven years is more than enough time to heal, I guess. Is she in Toronto?”
“Yeah…” She was never going to admit to Jan that she used her idea of befriending people in social media… many years later.
“Why don’t you drop by?”
“Are you out of your mind? To do what? I show up out of nowhere and say hey wanna hang out?” Lemon sounded exasperated. “Besides, I don’t know if I wanna see her.” She crossed her arms on her chest. “Maybe I don’t… maybe I’m okay with this being the way it is.”
“Girl, you’re not. I know it, you know it, we all know it…”
“No, I can’t go to Toronto. That’s crazy.” She shook the idea off her head. “I’ll go back home and spend some time with my family and then I’ll be back in time for the dance festival in three weeks. It’s planned perfectly.”
“Okay.” Jan, who understood Lemon’s struggles the most, was always supportive when it came to Priyanka. She just patted her back and let her be.
A half-hour later, Lemon drove to the airport to pick Rita up. That night they went out to have dinner at some fancy restaurant in Manhattan –Rita’s knowledge of New York came up exclusively from Sex and the City and Gossip Girl thus Lemon let her live the fantasy for one night. After all, she paid.
They stayed in Lemon’s apartment since Jan was spending the night at Jackie’s and the following morning they woke up before the sun rose on the horizon. Lemon picked some coffee and breakfast from the nearest café open and then they hit the road.
Rita did her best to stay awake but she kept yawning so Lemon let her sleep for a little. In the meantime, she played some music from the CDs on the glove compartment. She started with the ageless Survivor and then switched to Teenage Dream.
Lemon had her car for over a year now and she had become a much more diligent driver during that year. Before she wouldn’t even have considered driving to Canada but after getting used to the traffic in the city and the sound of ceaseless horns and people yelling, the highway was like a child’s play.
Rita woke up when the sunlight hit her in the face, right on time to change the CD again.
“Oh, can I pick the music?”
“Sure,” Lemon pointed at the glove compartment. “there you have a few if you want to look around or the radio…”
“I brought this one.” She rummaged through her purse and pulled out a Taylor Swift CD.
“Rita I didn’t have you for a Swiftie.” Lemon arched an eyebrow. “I’m not the biggest fan but… okay.”
“But she’s really good.”
Bonding trip, bonding trip, bonding trip…
Lemon didn’t know how she ended up listening to a country album but Rita seemed happy while singing some of the lyrics along. She had to admit there were some bops there. Love Story with the Shakespearian references was good, she’d give her that. She was paying attention to the road mostly.
And then it hit her.
Track nº 6 – You Belong with Me.
Lemon was sure she had heard that song on the radio before and seen the music video somewhere –most likely- but she had never truly listened to the lyrics until that moment. The tune was catchy or whatever but the chorus –and the bridge- really resonated with her.
She closed her grip over the steering wheel once the song was over.
“Rita, play it again.” She said, dead serious.
“Huh? Okay…”
The sixth time, Lemon had it. She was almost in tears screaming from the top of her lungs.
Oh, I remember you driving to my house
In the middle of the night
I’m the one who makes you laugh
When you know you’re ‘bout to cry
And I know your favorite songs
And you tell me 'bout your dreams
Think I know where you belong
Think I know it’s with me
“Again.”
“Lemon, I think it’s time to stop. This is an intervention.”
“I said, play the song again. The bridge really makes me feel something.”
“I can tell…” Rita looked concerned. “I think it’s a good moment for us to switch positions. I can drive for a little.”
She probably fucked Rita’s CD by repeating that song so many times but the echo that it left inside Lemon’s head was like an expansive wave and it reached the deepest, recondite memories of her mind.
She spotted Priyanka the minute she walked into the dining, how could she miss it? Priyanka always managed to draw attention wherever she went and she wasn’t even conscious about it most of the time.
Seeing pictures on someone else’s Facebook wall was one thing but seeing her life had taken Lemon by surprise. She should’ve suspected when she saw Kiara and Scarlett together –and they had seen her too- so it was probably just a matter of time for her to find out as well.
Lemon couldn’t take her eyes off her.
Days prior to her arrival, Lemon had just the normal amount of experiences next to her family, visiting relatives she hadn’t seen in a while, going out to have dinner with her dad, his wife, and Rita, visiting old friends and places from her childhood…
She didn’t expect to meet Priyanka there –just like when she had returned for her dad’s wedding- their paths didn’t cross that occasion and this time was supposed to be the same except it wasn’t. Priyanka was in town and she was there, at the same place at the same moment as Lemon, something she only had dreamt about. Literally.
She had stopped listening to what Boa was saying and in consequence, spilled some orange juice on the denim jacket she had over her dress.
“Oh, shit!” She rushed to grab a napkin.
The girls on the table tried to help her, she removed the clothing item and left it on the table assuring it would dry but excused herself to go to the bathroom for a moment.
Lemon needed to think straight.
Well, no, not that… scratch it.
Lemon needed to think straight clearly.
She could walk directly to their table and just say «hi!» short, sweet, concise… or something like «I just came to say hello» that would give the right idea of her being friendly… right?
She pulled out her phone and called Jan, it was an emergency call.
“Jan… pick up… pick up…”
“Hello?”
“Oh my God, Jan… this is a disaster and Im gonna die.”
“What? Wait… what happened? Are you okay?”
“Priyanka is here.”
Long pause on the phone.
“Oh, I see…”
“And I’m freaking out because I don’t know what to say or how to act in front of her anymore… and now I’m hiding in a bathroom booth like a vile fifteen-year-old.”
“Lemon, breathe… you need to calm down.”
“No shit… I don’t know if I can do this… what if I fuck it up again?”
“Just say «hi», nothing bad can come from a hi.”
“That was my first choice, thank you… I think I will… wish me luck.”
“Fingers crossed!”
She hung up. At that moment, someone else got inside the bathroom and got in the contiguous booth but Lemon was too immersed in her own thoughts to notice. She walked out, washed her hands, and made sure her hair was looking fine.
Just say «hi». She was going to walk to that table and say hi… It couldn’t go wrong.
Except it did.
Priyanka wasn’t at the table, why wasn’t she at the table? Lemon had just seen her. How was possible that when she finally brought herself to take the first step she wasn’t there? Was she hallucinating? You know what? That was so typical Priyanka never staying quiet for so long in a place and…
Her thoughts started bubbling while she tried to maintain a polite conversation with the other girls. There was one particularly pretty she hadn’t seen around before named Denali, would she be close to Priyanka too? Lemon felt a pang of jealously.
And then, she appeared.
Everyone at the table went silent and when she turned around, there she was.
Taller than Lemon could remember, absolutely gorgeous like a goddess with her long hair and pretty features, it had been a while but there she was, just like she remembered her.
Lemon attempted to smile but it became awkward. She was so nervous she couldn’t say anything…
“Well, that’s my cue to leave.” She smiled at the people sitting at the table. “It’s nice to see you, guys. I hope we can hang out sometime.” She was about to run away because even when she thought she could do it, she couldn’t.
“Hello to you too.” Those were Priyanka’s first words in all that time.
And then, the rage took over.
Was it so difficult to call her back?
Seven years!
“Oh, so you can speak now…”
It went downhill horribly after that.
Lemon stormed out of the dining, walked a little trying not to show her true feelings, and finally laid against a wall to recover from what had just happened. She let the air out of her lungs and then remembered her bag, her jacket, and her car keys were still inside. Luckily enough, she had brought her phone and rushed to text Rita to get her things.
Her hands were still shaking and if she looked through a window she’d spot her again. There was nothing else that Lemon wanted to do but she also felt the need of kicking and screaming, to do something with all those feelings that she had piled up in her heart.
She needed to clear her mind and, in order to do that, she needed to dance, put her body in motion somehow.
It was time to go out.
Lemon felt the most comfortable dancing and the dancefloor was like a second home for her. There she didn’t need to think much, just feel the rhythm and let her body do the rest.
Naturally, she felt deeply aggrieved when Priyanka showed up to disrupt her sacred space.
Well, it wasn’t that sacred, it was a nightclub or whatever.
Yet, how dared she?
How dared she showing up like that?
How dared she looking that beautiful with that top that revealed her back?
Lemon gulped when no one was watching.
She was with that pretty girl from the other day, Denali.
Wait, what if…?
Priyanka had all the right to date someone if she wanted to and who wouldn’t date Priyanka? She was amazing, funny, so beautiful… Maybe there was a real chance that she was dating that girl –that very attractive girl- and good for them… it was a good thing, right?
Fuck it.
Lemon stole Priyanka’s drink, she needed something strong to numb her senses and erase those thoughts.
The shot gave Lemon a dosage of renewed confidence, she could feel physically her inhibitions abandoning her body. She smirked at Priyanka and stared directly into her brown eyes before heading to the dancefloor.
She lost herself among the crowd, closed her eyes, and let the alcohol take over, making her feel lighter. She danced and danced for the longest time as if she had a pair of red shoes on, going with the flow was something she mastered and she proved it.
She didn’t know how long it had been but when she opened her eyes, she spotted Priyanka on the bar again. A sense of heat ran through her body before the idea she was being seen. Her moves became more calculated, she wanted to put a show for real this time but make it effortlessly like she had no clue like she wasn’t aware of the girl’s presence so close yet so far.
She followed Jennifer Lopez’ instructions in the lyrics of On The Floor.
Dance the night away, live your life and stay young on the floor.
She didn’t care if she was sweaty afterward or how sore her feet were going to be the next morning, she had achieved her goal.
And now she was thirsty which led to the bar and to…
“Ew, cinnamon.” Only Priyanka could like something like the taste of fireball.
Lemon recognized the guy that tried to grope her on the dance floor and of course, she told him to fuck off even when it sounded harsh for Priyanka.
And from moment to another –things were happening too fast- she was drinking tequila with her former best friend from kindergarten.
Lemon stared at Priyanka, her makeup was perfectly done and it looked like an ad for the rest of the night regardless of how much she danced. Maybe she was being biased since Priyanka hadn’t ever looked bad in her eyes.
“That girl… Denali…” Lemon tested the waters at the mention of her name. “is she… close to you?”
She had to know… if she was dating someone…
“I adore her, yeah.”
“Is she… your girlfriend?”
But Priyanka was a little shit who wasn’t going to give her a straight answer to one simple question. Instead, she asked the blonde something else.
“Would you care?”
Yes, she would.
But instead of saying that, her first instinct was to storm out and basically run away as she had done before. She was being a coward, yes, but she couldn’t do it, she couldn’t answer that question, not at that moment, when she wasn’t careful enough with her words.
There was a big chunk of that night that was dedicated strictly to dancing, if her shoes weren’t completely worn out by the end of the night what was the point? But she kept an eye on one girl here and there until she lost it and she was anywhere to be seen.
Lemon didn’t want to admit that she looked around like a lost puppy but that was exactly what she did –she was drunk, okay?- and lonely.
She could only be outside or, in the worst scenario, she had gone home already.
Fortunately, Priyanka was smoking outside.
Smoking?
“There you are.” She said, eloquently to her judgment.
Priyanka shrugged. “Here I am.
There she was, looking all perfect and beautiful and…
If Lemon could only take some courage and put it into words…
Instead, she just pointed the height difference between them.
After that, it became blurry, she probably babbled a little –although she did remember the sound of Priyanka’s laugh and being called a Polly Pocket the next morning- next thing she knew she was on a taxi, texting Rita to open the door so her dad wouldn’t hear her.
And the following morning…
Jeez, she had one infernal headache. The room was spinning and not even when she laid down and closed her eyes the movement stopped. Rita had contemplated poking her with a stick but she had read somewhere that it wasn’t recommended to bother a wild animal on their sleep and it applied to drunk Lemon as well.
Finally, she walked in, it smelled like a liquor store in there and the environment was probably flammable.
“Lemon…” Rita whispered. “I’m going to the mall and your dad and my mom are having lunch with some friends. Are you going to be okay?”
“Mmmh…” She was breathing at least.
“Okay, remember they’re cooking dinner tonight.”
“Mkay…” She mumbled.
“Love you, bye.” She blew a kiss in the air and closed the door.
Lemon woke up what felt like hours later, she forced herself to take a bath. There wasn’t a damn aspirin to be seen in that house and she had already drunk more water than her bladder could handle. It wasn’t the best of the starts but at least she could walk.
When she stopped feeling dizzy, she grabbed her keys and drove to the supermarket because there weren’t Froot Loops either and her morning –morning being a loose term since it was almost noon- was already bad enough.
Not to mention that some idiot was playing around with a shopping cart inside of the supermarket and almost destroyed the cereal aisle.
“Jesus Christ you’re going to kill someone with that.” She clutched her imaginary pearls.
Wait a minute, she knew that idiot.
“Fancy meeting you here.” Priyanka mumbled.
Not now, not with that cranky mood, not with a killing headache, not when she only wanted a bowl of cereal and crawl back to bed.
Of course she was going to tell her to fuck off.
But then…Priyanka picked the cookie cereal and Lemon’s stone heart melt right in the spot. For years, whenever she saw chocolate chip cookies in the aisles of the supermarkets, in cafés, or with freaking girl scouts, she couldn’t help but think about that little kindergarten girl with big brown eyes and crumbs over her face.
And years later, she was in front of her…
Some things might have changed but they felt oddly familiar at that moment.
Priyanka not only had terrible taste in drinks, but it also applied to cars too… because that thing was setting on fire in no time.
Lemon had just walked out of the supermarket, she crossed the street, put her things into the trunk and bought some aspirins but when she was about to leave, she saw Priyanka sitting at the curb under her personal dark cloud… and another dark cloud behind her.
She should’ve left her there, it wasn’t any of her business but… she looked truly devastated.
“Looks like you could use a ride.” Priyanka glared at her.
“Not now.” She blurted out. “I don’t have time for your snarky comments so please refrain from saying anything you’d think is clever.”
Lemon lifted her sunglasses. “I’m not trying to get on your nerves; I’m legit offering you a ride.” Priyanka didn’t seem convinced. “Think for a moment, your groceries are going to go bad with the heat and no air conditioner.”
C’mon Priyanka, think for a moment…
“The ice cream bars…” She was on the verge of tears. “Fine. Yes, I need a ride, would you be so nice and help me out?”
“Come with me, my car is around the corner in front of the drugstore.”
“Buying some aspirins?”
“Cut the slack I’m trying to do a good deed here.”
“For a change.”
She was expecting a comment from the brunette about the fact that she had a yellow car and she did it as soon as they got into the car. What Lemon didn’t expect was forgetting which street led to Priyanka’s house. Maybe back in the day, she didn’t pay much attention but she was sure something had been changed, she remembered the way like the back of her hand… or maybe she didn’t.
It was nice of Priyanka to ask about her family. Lemon’s mother always asked at loud if she had news of the girl to which the blonde replied grumbling that they weren’t friends anymore. She secretly hoped her father would tell her if he had seen her in the supermarket or the street but since she moved to Toronto those meetings became rare… that was part of why she put Jan’s plan into motion.
Because she always missed her.
Then, Priyanka asked about Rihanna… how dared she questioning her impeccable music taste?
Obviously, she liked Rihanna. What kind of stupid question was that?
“Hey, this is the album you gave me before moving to New York, remember?”
“I do… that’s actually the copy I used to have in my room… the one we listened to on my radio.”
Lemon’s hands closed their grip over the steering wheel. That album was one of her most treasured possessions, she had shed giant tears the day it stopped working when the stereo of the car kept spitting the CD no matter how many times she tried it. The box had a permanent space inside the glove compartment.
Having Priyanka sitting next to her, holding it in her hands felt surreal for a moment as if seven years had never passed.
“Why did you keep it?”
Lemon thought about that question. Sometimes simple objects like that were the only link to the past and having them around was like owning a time-traveling machine that took her directly to the memories, that took her back to Priyanka and to that bond that once felt unbreakable.
Instead, she mumbled something about «sentimental value» which was the most generic thing to say.
Now, going back to her house did feel like they were using a time machine. It was comforting to know that some things were still the same there but still, the passage of time was perceptible through photos or little details that Lemon remembered. There were more children in the family pictures and it hit her that Priyanka’s mother was now a grandmother and that Priyanka was now an aunt. How crazy was that?
Back in the day, she couldn’t even imagine her friend taking care of a plant much less a living human being, and still, the photos told her otherwise.
Thank goodness the aspirins were starting to work but even though, that headache wasn’t going to stop her from fighting for that car that her friend –for some reason- loved so much. That mechanic was going to have a piece of her mind, she didn’t care if the car was actually set on fire with flames coming out of the engine, he had to tell Priyanka there was a possible solution to that problem.
All was not lost.
That was what he had said and a phrase that lingered in the air long after. It even made Lemon feel hopeful about the car’s state and considering she had called it a jalopy multiple times, it was something.
“Thank you, Lemon… for helping me so much today. You didn’t have to but still, you did.”
Priyanka’s words made her heart swell.
She started the engine. “You’ve done the same for me no questions asked.”
She knew Priyanka would have.
“Are you feeling better after the aspirins?”
“Yeah… I’m never drinking again I swear…”
“That’s a lie.”
“It is…”
“Do you even remember what you said? Last night?”
The question caught Lemon by surprise. She was trying to rack her brains to find that missing information, one of the endless possibilities of stupid things she might have said while being drunk… chances were…
“What did I say?” She was about to have an attack of some kind.
Priyanka started laughing.
Bitch.
“Priyanka, what did I say?”
Her hands were shaking but she held the steering wheel tighter.
“You called me Sprinky and kept asking if Denali is my girlfriend.”
Lemon breathed again. “Thank God… it was just that…”
Her soul had returned to her body.
“I remember that part, you never answered the question anyway.” She said. It seemed appropriate to bring the question back so she could have a clear answer.
Priyanka sighed. “Denali is my friend. Just that… we’re friends. Are you happy now?”
…sort of…
She was about thirty percent happier… yeah… was it something bad?
And then the conversation went somewhere Lemon knew they would eventually talk about.
“So you know… you know I like girls…”
Lemon could feel the sense of fear behind her words, the what if I’m not accepted? After pronouncing that short sentence, after baring her soul.
Lemon just nodded.
“And are you okay with that?”
She looked at Priyanka. “Why wouldn’t I? Of course I’m okay with that…”
Lemon wanted to scream from the top of her lungs… how could she even imagine that she wouldn’t be okay with it? When she…
“Don’t tell me that on top of you thinking that I dislike Rihanna you also consider myself to be homophobic or an ignorant asshole… that being the same thing.” She spat.
Then, she told Priyanka about Jan and Jackie and she suddenly found herself missing them, wishing her friends from New York could also be there in her hometown, she wanted them to meet Priyanka and her high school friends… having her two worlds collide.
After dropping Priyanka back and seeing her mother again, Lemon left with a sense of warmness over her body. She had spent an entire afternoon with her childhood best friend and they were finally at a point where they felt comfortable with each other to share new things and anecdotes alike like normal friends.
Friends.
A friendship with Priyanka was something she had never expected from that trip back home.
Later that week, Lemon got a text message from Boa asking if she was going to the lake thing she was organizing. Her phone buzzed a second later she read the first message.
«I ran into Scarlett and Priyanka and they’re in.»
Lemon bit her inner cheek. She didn’t care, why she’d care?
Right… they were cool now… they were somehow friends again…
But going into nature wasn’t something she was particularly fond of. She still had a scar from that time her dad had insisted that hiking was a good father-daughter activity. Why couldn’t they plan something like a shopping day? Inside of the mall, with functioning air conditioning… wonders of the modernity like electricity?
“Rita, do you want to spend the day in a lake?” She asked the other girl who was flipping through a book’s pages while sitting on the sofa.
“Sure, sounds interesting.” She said without looking away from the book.
“Ugh. You too?” She slumped on the sofa.
She sighed loudly.
“What’s the matter?” Rita asked, accustomed to her behavior and unbothered by it.
“I don’t know… I’m don’t want to go to a lake but…”
She wanted to see Priyanka.
“Don’t go then.”
“No! That’s not the solution.” She grumbled. “Ah, I don’t know…”
Rita closed her book. “What would cheer you up? Pizza? A movie? What’s that movie you’re always talking about?”
“Mean Girls.”
“The other one.”
“Clueless.”
“One that I haven’t watched before.”
“Oh, you mean Drop Dead Gorgeous?”
“That one… why don’t you go get the DVD or something and we’ll watch it tonight.”
Lemon was about to protest but she just nodded. “Okay… I’ll drop by the video club.”
“And I’ll order the pizza.”
“Can you also order mozzarella sticks?”
“Sure.”
“Okay.” Lemon got up and walked toward the garage. The door close behind her.
“Now I can finish this book.”
She knew that the greatest film genre a.k.a. the chick flick movie genre was in the same aisle and that the DVD she was looking for was there, somewhere. It was an empty DVD box but she’d take it to the cashier and show her dad’s membership card or so to pay for it.
Lemon had the DVD on her hands when a little kid almost ran over her.
“Wow! Careful there.”
She looked at the little girl in front of her and she had a déjà vu. By a general rule, Lemon didn’t like children –from the distance they were alright but upfront…- she didn’t know what to do with them. However, this kid immediately got her soft side because she reminded her of someone close to her heart.
The little girl with big brown eyes stared at her for a moment. Lemon was paralyzed thinking she was going to cry or something but to her surprise, she just gave her a compliment.
“You’re very pretty.” She said with her adorable voice.
If there was something she liked, it was getting complimented.
“Aw, thank you…you’re very pretty too.”
Wait, was she on her own? Maybe she didn’t find her parents.
Lemon kneeled to get closer to her level. “Are you lost?”
She shook her head.
“What’s your name?” She tried again.
“I’m Melanie.”
“Nice to meet you, Melanie. I’m Lemon, like the fruit.”
“Nice to meet you… Miss Lemon.”
She was going to melt right there.
“Did you come here with your mom? With your dad?”
She shook her head again. “With my auntie.”
“Ah, I see… What do you say if we look for your auntie?”
“She’s right there.” She pointed at someone behind Lemon.
Lemon turned around and met the brunette’s eyes.
Her heart skipped a beat.
“Oh. It’s you, auntie… I should’ve guessed.”
“The resemblance is uncanny, isn’t it?” Priyanka smiled proudly.
It was the girl she had seen in the pictures, back at her house the other day and now, seeing them next to each other, she couldn’t deny they looked alike.
Wait for a second, her name was Melanie?
“You really convinced your brother to name his daughter like two-fifths of the Spice Girls, didn’t you?”
Priyanka panicked. She rushed and covered her niece’s ears. “Shhhh… He doesn’t know that yet. It took me seven of the nine months of my sister-in-law’s pregnancy to plant the idea… neither Ginger nor Emma were working, so it was down to Melanie or Victoria.”
Of course…
Then Priyanka sent her niece to get a movie and they exchanged some commentaries about the movie Lemon was about to rent. It surprised her when the brunette asked about the lake activity.
“So… are you going to the lake thing Boa’s planning?”
Lemon shrugged. “I don’t know. I’m not that into nature and being eaten by bugs…”
Sounded lovely when she put it like that.
“Oh, so she’s a city girl now.”
“Listen, I spent a good ten years of my life going camping with my dad and hating every second of it. I thought it was finally over when I moved.”
“The girls and I are going… and I’m sure we’re taking some type of booze with us, snacks, a campfire… It will be fun.”
Could it be that…? This was her chance to know.
Lemon tilted her head. “I didn’t know you wanted me to go.” She knew exactly what she was doing.
“Boa said the more the merrier… plus my car is still at the workshop and Scarlett might have screwed up her relationship with the one person that has a car among us.”
“So you need a ride… that’s it?”
Disappointing… Although, she was used to.
“Yeah… and it’ll be fun being all together again.”
“Sure… okay. I’ll tell Rita and we’ll be there.”
“Really?”
Lemon nodded.
Hey, maybe she was right and it would be fun… kind of.
At that moment, Priyanka’s niece returned with a DVD of Brave in her hand.
“Are you dating my auntie Pri?” She asked unscrupulous and unfiltered like any six-year-old.
Lemon almost had a heart attack. She just stared and then looked at Priyanka.
The brunette’s mouth dropped to the floor.
“Mel! You can’t ask people… That’s not… You don’t get to…”
“But daddy said that you like girls and that if you were going to date someone it would be a girl… and she’s a girl.”
Lemon covered her mouth with her hand, she was blushing underneath.
“Mel just because I’m talking to a girl it doesn’t mean that I’m dating her.”
“But she’s pretty… she’s prettier than you.”
“Oh, I like her.” Lemon giggled.
“Hey! You little brat, who’s the one renting movies with you.”
“Why aren’t you dating her, auntie Pri?” Priyanka covered the girl’s mouth.
Lemon didn’t say a word but she’d like to know the answer to that question as well.
“Okay, I think it’s time to go home. Brave, huh? Good choice.” She looked at Lemon. “See you on Thursday…?”
The blonde smiled. “I’ll pick you up.”
“Okay, great.”
“Goodbye, Priyanka. Bye, Mel.” She waved at them.
She had to pay for her movie too but she waited until they left the store to do it. Then she drove back home and informed Rita they were going on a little camping day or whatever.
“Make sure you pack the bug repellent I gotta text Boa.”
On Thursday morning, Lemon drove to Tynomi’s house because she had to pick a cooler. She didn’t know that was the base of operations, almost everyone was already there and they were getting the cars and supplies ready.
“Oh, hey Lemon.”
It was Denali, Priyanka’s friend. Emphasis on the word friend.
“Hi! How are you?” She hugged the girl who seemed a bit startled by it.
“Good to see you again…”
“Yeah.” She smiled at her.
“Actually, good thing I bumped into you. Scarlett wanted me to tell you that Juice and she are going to pick up Priyanka from her house on their way here.”
“I beg your pardon?” She blinked twice. “I’m picking Priyanka, I already told her.”
Denali raised her hands in the air. “I’m just passing on the message.”
Lemon grabbed her phone from her back pocket and marked Scarlett’s number.
“Hello? What’s up?”
“I’m picking up Priyanka. I spoke with her the other day and we agreed on that since her car is fucked and your relationship is fucked.”
“Was… Okay? Juice and I made up. There were roses and everything.”
“That’s adorable, congratulations to the happy couple.” The sarcasm behind her words was strong.
“Priyanka’s house is on the way, we can drive her to the lake… unless…”
Oh, God.
“Is there a reason why you’d want to drive her?”
“No… There isn’t any reason besides I already told her I was going to pick her up. Why is it so difficult to understand? I don’t like my plans to be changed.”
Scarlett dared to laugh.
“I called her earlier so you don’t have to worry about that. I insist though if you had a valid reason to be her driver today I’d…”
“Fuck off. Okay, yeah… I want to spend some extra time with her.” She murmured. Denali raised an eyebrow.
“You could have started there. It wasn’t that difficult, was it?”
“Shut up.”
“Well, Juice and I are driving straight to Tynomi’s. Can you pick Priyanka up then?”
“Yeah… I guess I can.”
“You’re fucking terrible.”
“Wait, since you have an empty space in your car, can you take Rita with you?”
“Oh, so you want some alone time…”
“C’mon.”
“I mean, I haven’t spoken a lot with her but if she’s okay with it…”
“She’s French Canadian, Kiara too, they’ll get along.”
“So you’re playing the language card now.”
“Sure, whatever. Can you?” Lemon rolled her eyes even when she couldn’t see it.
“We’ll take good care of her. Good luck with your little da-”
Lemon hung up before she could finish that sentence.
Denali stared at her, a bit terrified.
“All set.” She had a mischievous smile on her face.
Lemon rolled down her window. “Get in loser, we’re going to a lake… for some reason.”
Seeing Priyanka’s surprise was more than anything she ever wanted. She didn’t look upset at all and that was a relief. Lemon wasn’t going to tell her about all the arrangements she had to do so they could spend some time alone –and she hoped that for their own welfare that Scarlett or the other girls didn’t mention it either.
They didn’t have much time together already with their imminent separation. Lemon would have to go back to New York in less than a week and Priyanka was probably heading toward Toronto as well. They had lost too much already with their silly banters and those minutes were precious on her eyes.
Except, they got lost. It wasn’t on purpose.
And even when she didn’t show it, Lemon started feeling the panic slowly crawling when after their third turn when the stupid lake was nowhere to be seen. It was humiliating that they had to stop and ask for indications but thankfully they got there without any incident.
She was sure Priyanka was going to make fun of her for getting them in trouble and arriving late –which she did- but as soon as they met the others, she did what she did best, shaking Lemon’s little bitter heart.
“Yeah, can you believe I told her the wrong entry on the highway? Lemon almost killed me we were spinning around for like fifteen minutes, right?” She looked at her and winked.
Lemon didn’t know what to do next, her brain was malfunctioning.
“Ah, yeah…” She babbled as she felt her cheeks heating up. “But we’re here… so… it doesn’t matter.”
“Priyanka you dumbass, we’ve come this way before.” Scarlett nagged her.
“Oh, shut up… I forgot.” She picked her backpack and threw it over her shoulder. Lemon hadn’t moved. “Hey, let’s go. We have all day ahead.”
She had to do something, react somehow but she was paralyzed. Priyanka was right, they had all day ahead but she wasn’t sure if she was going to be able to handle it much longer.
“I think we’ve been set up.” Priyanka said when they were both at the boat.
Lemon should’ve guessed it. The way they moved suspiciously and how they had sent Tynomi to casually ask her if she had ever been in a boat before… it was all part of a greater plan to get them in the middle of the lake alone. Suddenly the lake wasn’t all that boring anymore.
For Lemon, that was the moment and the place to talk about what had happened between them, especially since Priyanka had been so open about that horrible story of her first kiss. To think that Lemon once had been mad about the fact she didn’t tell her about it, now she understood, it was bad enough to listen to it, she couldn’t imagine how she felt back in the day and reliving it wasn’t easy either.
They talked for what felt like hours and the conversation flowed avidly once they spoke about the elephant in the room but still, something was missing.
And then she had to put the stupid glasses on. For ages, she had hated being called names because of them and, when she finally convinced her mother to get contact lenses, it was a victory. Now, she didn’t want to go back to it nor Priyanka to see her like that… as if she was a kid again.
“Don’t make fun of me.” She mumbled. “I never wear these in public…”
It was a little plea but she meant it.
“Lemon, I’ve known you for ages I do remember how you look like with glasses on.”
Priyanka took the glasses and opened the temples before placing them gently on her face. She adjusted the nose pads above her nose and removed some hairs out of her face.
“There,” She looked proud of her work. “See, nothing less than stunning.”
When the brunette put the glasses on her face, she knew it.
Priyanka was going to kiss her.
She could feel it on her bones, she could feel it deep inside, her heart couldn’t stop beating fast.
She was going to kiss her, there was no doubt.
But she didn’t… for some reason, in the last second she backed out. Lemon didn’t know why but she could almost swear for her life Priyanka was going to kiss her. She regretted not shortening the distance just a couple of centimeters when she realized, it was too late.
However, now that Lemon had that information… she could take action.
She washed her hands in the bathroom when they were back and looked at the reflection in the mirror. She looked good, just a couple locks out of place and her cheeks a bit red due to the sun but she had Priyanka’s jacket on and she knew what her next step was going to be.
If Priyanka didn’t kiss her first, she was going to kiss Priyanka.
First, she’d take her somewhere they could be alone, -maybe with some silly excuse she’d invent on her way back to the campfire- she’d grab her hand and pull her even if she protested –because she was going to-, there was a cozy spot with a couple of tree trunks cut where they could sit, fireflies were going to start flying around and the buzz of the other people would become background noise. Lemon would pick a fight with her about the first thing that’d come to her mind and when Priyanka was too into it to even notice, she was going to lean in and kiss her to shut her mouth.
It was the kiss she had postponed for so long –years- because above of all, Lemon was deeply, stupidly, madly in love with her best friend since she could remember. It had taken a lot of time to realize that those feelings she had inside were that -love- but now she was confident it was mutual.
That was until…
“I’m being serious right now.” She cleared her throat. “Lemon and I are friends… that’s it. Don’t try to push it further because it’s not going to happen.”
The knot grew on her throat, her eyes were getting watery to the point she couldn’t see clearly; her heart was breaking somewhere inside her and the physical pain almost got her on her knees.
It’s not going to happen.
What a fool… what a stupid, fucking fool she was…
Priyanka didn’t think of her like that and she and her childish crush were nothing more than that, one-sided feelings. Priyanka and she were friends and they were never going to be more than friends. For a moment she had believed it but it was too good to be true.
She wiped away her tears, took a deep breath, and put the mask on.
“Hey, do you mind going back with the girls? I was talking to Rita and she’s kind of tired so I’m going home with her.” She hadn’t spoken to Rita and she hated she’d have to ruin the fun for her but she couldn’t be there any longer and that was the excuse that became handy.
“Oh, sure. No problem. Is she alright?”
“Yeah, just tired and maybe sunburn. I don’t want to drive when it’s too late either.” Her voice didn’t break as she lied.
“Alright. Are you still coming to dinner with my family? My mom said she’ll be waiting for you.”
Right. She had promised her mother she was visiting them…
“Saturday, right? I’ll be there.” She smiled. “I’m really glad we got to talk today, Pri.”
“Me too.”
She hugged her Lemon before she left.
Lemon whispered into Rita’s ear she wasn’t feeling alright and with that, the two girls got into the yellow car. They didn’t even get out of the park when Lemon stopped the car. Her knuckles turned white from holding the steering wheel too tight.
“Hey…” Rita reached for her. “Are you okay?”
She shook her head.
“Okay, let me drive.”
They exchanged seats without saying a word.
“Would you like me to play some music? I can put some CD on…”
“Just put whatever you want, it’ll be fine.” She sobbed.
Rita put the Taylor Swift album on because it was the first thing that she could find in the glove compartment. Lemon wasn’t in the mood for any kind of music really, but at least that would fill the awkward silence. She didn’t want to talk with Rita, she didn’t want to talk at all… she just wanted to get home as soon as possible.
Not her dad’s house, her home back in New York with her friends…
She was too far away.
When track nº 6 started playing, she skipped it without hesitation. She couldn’t listen to those lyrics without going back to her best friend as if she was going to wake up one day and realize… the idea was absurd. How could she ever believe that?
White Horse or Teardrops on my Guitar seemed more fitting.
Fearless, huh? What a joke. She wasn’t fearless, she was a coward who had waited too long.
She didn’t bawl until she touched the mattress of the bed, she didn’t shed a tear until her face made contact with the pillow and she stifled a cry on it. She couldn’t do it, she couldn’t pretend everything was fine for any longer.
The tears felt too heavy to be held so she cried and cried until her eyes were dried out.
She didn’t notice she was still wearing Priyanka’s jacket until she tried to wipe the tears off her face with the sleeve. It smelled like her and it kept her warm like a hug. She wrapped herself with the jacket and closed her eyes until she fell asleep.

happily never after
Book: Open Heart
Warnings: Implied sex
Rating: General
Pairing: Bryce x F!MC
Word count: 1400+ words
Author’s note: Hello people of Tumblr! Okay, this post was done last night but it was 1am and I had stuff to do the next day so I slept instead and then I had to do said stuff the next day so I’m sorry I’m late. Visit my masterlist while you’re still here!
Bryce Lahela sat by the bar at Donahue’s, downing his sixth, maybe seventh shot of tequila in the last hour, pairing it with the frequent beer in between the shots. He was well and truly drunk, but his thoughts remained sober, his mind wandering to her, to what could have been.
He thought of their first time, it was at her apartment after the housewarming party she and her roommates threw. It was well past midnight, she was lying in his arms, their limbs tangled but their hearts beating as one.
That was before all the drama, before the ethics hearing, before him. Ethan Ramsey, the man holding her heart.
He knew, he knew he should’ve said something when she asked if he would be comfortable keeping their relationship casual, that they were both busy doctors and that a serious relationship wouldn’t work.
He should’ve told her that he wanted nothing more than to be in a serious relationship with her, to be able to call her his, but he didn’t, and it’s one of his biggest regrets.
After that, their “casual relationship” seemed to only happen after she’d been rejected by him, after she had had an intimate moment with him, only for him to push her away, prioritizing his morals and ethics. Bryce would have laughed at him, how stupid it was of him to let her go. Every time she’d drunkenly show up at his one-bedroom apartment, he’d think that that would be the breaking point, that she would finally realize Ethan wasn’t worth it, and that he, Bryce Lahela, was willing to give her the world if only she’d say yes.
But alas, she would always run back to Ethan, forgetting all about the love he had showered her with when she broke down, but he never spoke about it, insisting that she’d come around one day.
Eventually.
When she ran up to him after their shift and hugged him tightly, saying that she and Ethan had officially gotten together, he doubted it would last long, just like the other three times he had let her in, but he didn’t want to hurt her, so he ignored the prominent pang of jealousy he felt, burying it deep inside of him and congratulated her instead, reciprocating the hug.
Well, he was wrong.
A little more than a year later, there he stood, at the corner of the room at their engagement party. His eyes were trained on them, his gaze strong enough to burn a hole through the pair, he saw them, all he could see was them flowing through the room in perfect sync, bodies close, his arm wrapped around her waist as they chatted with friends and asked other married couples for advice, not that they needed it anyway.
Not long after they went public with their relationship had they been deemed “Edenbrooke’s power couple.” Ethan couldn’t care less as he didn’t give a thought about gossip. She just shrugged it off like it was a tease or a joke like she expected it, but Bryce felt horrible. He winced every time he heard one of the nurses or interns call them that, or when they fawned over their “relationship goals”.
He felt even worse when Ethan slid into the seat next to him at the open bar, giving him a warm clap on the back, which used to be highly unusual of the great Ethan Ramsey. But soon after they got together, Ethan acknowledged that Bryce was a close, if not best, friend of hers and that he would have to learn to be friendly with him, which he ultimately did, judging by the hugs they had shared when Bryce would leave their shared apartment after sharing a nice dinner with them and the rest of the gang while Jackie and Sienna stood mouth agape, Elijah even slyly fishing his phone out of his pocket and snapping a picture or two hundred.
Right now, as he sat beside Bryce making friendly small talk, Bryce only had one thought on his mind, “he really changed for her”. The old Ethan Ramsey wouldn’t even be glancing the way of the surgical resident but here he was, smiling, hugging him, making small talk? She had changed him for the better and there was no denying it.
Soon, she came by and pulled Ethan out of the conversation, quickly kissing him on the lips, saying they needed to make one more round before the end of the party and giving Bryce a sweet smile which he returned before they went to talk to the rest of the guests.
The worst he felt, however, was the day of their wedding.
Yes, of course, he wanted nothing more than for her to be happy and he was relieved that Ethan was indeed serious about them, but he couldn’t help the anger boiling inside him when she walked down the aisle towards Ethan.
The only emotions visible on her face was love, love and adoration. That was the same expression that was plastered on the man standing at the end of the aisle, eagerly waiting for her.
The same expression that had been on his face ever since the day he met her. Every time he saw her jumping up and down after she’d solved a difficult case, and the one time when he noticed she had the same expression on her face was when they were caught in the rain. When they still had their “puppy love” of sorts, something that was no longer part of her thoughts, but instead clouded his mind every time he saw her.
Bryce’s hand laid on her lower back as they danced together. Her big doe eyes gazed up at him lovingly, though it wasn’t the type of love he craved for, it was a different type of love than the one he looked at her with. Hers was meaningful but completely platonic, while his longing and utterly romantic.
“And to think I wouldn’t have gotten the honor of dancing with the beautiful bride tonight,” He said, a smirk prominent on his face.
“I couldn’t very well forget about the most important man in my life now, could I?” She returned with a coy smile, laying her head on his shoulder.
“Ah, careful now, I don’t think you’re allowed to say that anymore, you’re a married woman!” He quipped back, hiding behind his facade of humor when he wanted nothing more than to tell her how he was desperately and embarrassingly in love with her, yet he couldn’t bring himself to do that to her, especially on her big day.
She was about to retort when a voice interrupted her, “May I cut in?” Ethan said, extending a hand out to her.
“Hi, love,” she said to him before looking expectantly towards Bryce, as if asking for permission.
He flashed her his classic million-dollar smile, “Go ahead, wouldn’t want to interrupt the happy couple on their big day!” He assured her and stepped away, even though it was the furthest thing from what he desired at that moment.
He struggled to blink back the tears that formed in his eyes as they danced in the middle of the room. Over a hundred pairs of eyes were trained on them, but they didn’t seem to notice. With her head comfortably on his chest and their bodies flush against each other, as they whispered tender nothings to each other, gazing deeply into each others’ eyes, he felt the jealousy and envy coursing through his veins.
“This is it,” he thought to himself, the crowd applauding and cheering as they kissed tenderly.
His heart was shattered into a million little pieces. This is it, they’re married, they’re gonna spend the rest of their lives together.
He would no longer be the person she would run to when she had a bad day. He would no longer drag her out of her apartment on their off days and lead her on unorthodox and crazy adventures. He would no longer be able to look her in the eyes and sense a feeling of longing while they stood drenched from the rainwater, staring at each other as deeply as their eyes would allow, but there was no use denying it anymore: the thought, the dream, the fantasy that he could ever be the one for her was officially over.
The crushing sensation of reality set in. Today, Bryce Lahela bid farewell to her, the her he wanted was no longer, the her that was as in love with him as he was her, there was no longer that little slither of hope that one day she would turn around and realize that he was so deeply and crushingly in love with her. He would never be Bryce Lahela—loving husband.
From that point on, he knew he would be Bryce, just Bryce—best friend.

( emeraude toubia, 28, cis female, she/her ) Have you seen CARINA TORRERO around ? I hear they’re an ESCORT who can sometimes be GREEDY & IMPULSIVE. But I also heard they can be DETERMINED & ADAPTIVE if you catch them on a good day. They’re usually hanging around LA CASA DI MATEO in their spare time. I sure hope they’re alright ! ( mandy )
Hello all! I’m Mandy and this is my child, Carina Torrero She’s… a lot, so bless your soul for finding your way to this intro.
Full name: Carina Cecilia Torrero Nickname: Care, Cari, C.C. Age: 28 Nationality: Mexican and Lebanese  Religion: N/A City of birth: Laredo, Texas The current place for living: Chicago, IL Job title: Eden Escort Married? No Spoken Languages: Spanish, English Birthday: October 30th Does she own a home? Yes
B A C K G R O U N D : ( updated Feb. 25th, 2021 )
Carina is the baby of her family and has always was spoiled as such; showered in gifts. In the small town of Laredo, Texas, the Torrero family was known as the richest family in town. While it was rumored that there were some underground dealings going on in the family business, none of those were true. In fact, The Torreros prided themselves on being the purest and most righteous family in the region. Rev. Torrero owned and pastored a Mega Church that made millions of dollars every week, on top of people throwing money at her parents for their “good work”. But it meant nothing to Carina because she always felt like the church always came before her. Every time they were absent from her biggest life events, a gift was sent to make up for it.
When Carina went to Drexel University to get her degree in fashion design and marketing, she planned on spending the first year goofing off and exploring what the world has to offer her. In a city like Philadelphia, it was easy to get lost in the hype of pre-game drinking sessions and post-game parties, getting sucked into hook-up culture and living as thought she’d never have a chance to touch this many people all at once.
Getting out of college and moving back in with her family in Laredo was odd, at first, leaving the sweet life of sin behind and pretending to be the angel the town was so used to. Kidding, of course, she couldn’t leave it behind. She started doing modeling on the side and ended up getting commissioned for a huge gig with a very risqué magazine. Before the photoshoot even happened, word reached her parents church and the rumors spread like wildfire across the town. Her parents looked down on her with shame and disgrace.
It felt all so overwhelming until she realized it’s all just Texas life. Outside of their region, no one even knows who her family is. She knew the only thing to do was to pack up her things, steal a couple million dollars from her parents ( which was barely a dent for them ), and move to Chicago where she could carry on a life of her own. Within a month of moving, she made friends with some people who worked at a club called Eden. They got her a job as an escort and, to this day, she’s been operating as a freelance designer by day and an escort by night.

Wanted Connections ( all based on crazy ex-girlfriend/galavant songs )
any of these could be filled with gang affiliates of any kind !! It’d be fun to see how a gang affiliate would spice up these connections !!
PLATONIC
FRIENDTOPIA: Carina loves very few people on Earth. They’re the Joey/Chandler/Monica/Phoebe to her Rachel. They do practically everything together, as they spend pretty much every waking second together. They’re her roommates (they can work at Eden with her, but it’s not required).
LET’S GENERALIZE ABOUT MEN: a bitch-type group of friends that get together, sometimes drink, sometimes shop, or sometimes just share gossip and personal thoughts about what the hell is going on around them.
SECRET MISSION: They say the enemy of my enemy is my friend. These people mutually hate someone and often come up with different ways in which they can make this person suffer. But it’s all just in good fun…… or is it?
OFF WITH HIS SHIRT: Any of the men she’s been with exclusively through Eden. Her “regulars” or “visitors”, if you will. She gets paid quite heavily whether she offers sex or just her general company.
MAYBE YOU WON’T DIE ALONE: Carina is the self-proclaimed Hook Up Guru of Chicago, so she’ll definitely attempt to hook you up with that person you’ve had your eye on and it sometimes isn’t subtle. But sex makes her happy, so helping her friends get laid makes her happy too.
AFTER EVERYTHING I’VE DONE FOR YOU: This person has gone to hell and back for Carina, yet she shows little to no gratitude towards them. It’s only a matter of time before their lid pops right off.
FACE YOUR FEARS: These are her older friends who help her figure out her shit and she ACTUALLY listens to them because she just trusts them more than anyone else.
GREG’S DRINKING SONG: Drinking buddies!! A lot of the instances Greg mentions in the song can basically just be different scenarios they’ve gotten themselves in.
ROMANTIC/SEXUAL:
IT WAS A SHIT SHOW: A bittersweet ex-boyfriend. They really didn’t have any choice but to end things. He has some things going on in his life, Carina wasn’t anywhere near ready for a monogamous relationship. They both agree… it was a DISASTER.
SETTLE FOR ME: Someone who, stupidly, has a crush on Carina and he literally doesn’t have a single chance in hell. I just think this kind of energy would be hella hilarious.
STRIP AWAY MY CONSCIENCE: One of the guys that she regularly hooks up/hooked up with. Maybe even dated, but it wasn’t anything more than sex, really. They’re still friends to this day.
SEX WITH A STRANGER: This is pretty straight forward. All of her hookups. I’m just gonna list them here for data purposes. They coulda been friends before or barely know each other. Honestly, if she avoided everyone she’s ever had sex with, she’d never leave her house.
ENEMIES:
MAYBE YOU’RE NOT THE WORST THING EVER: Bitter, toxic exes. This was one of her first real and intense relationships that happened in a time when she was the most vulnerable and unprepared. It ended HORRIBLY when they lashed out at each other and it’s hard to let those feelings go. If they can get over their own pettiness, they can at least hope to be frenemies.
JACKASS IN A CAN: People who really just DON’T think she’s all that. They thinks he’s very stuck up and don’t fall for her charming, blunt persona in the slightest. I’d just love someone to call her out on her bullshit.
I DON’T LIKE YOU: General dislike and sworn mortal enemies kind of situation. We can talk over what happened between them, but honestly, it wouldn’t be that hard to find something that she did… or someone.
WHEW this was long, but go ahead and press some buttons if you like and wanna plot with her!!

Pounding, your head was pounding and you didn’t want to move, as you thought about it, you couldn’t really move. The heavy wait around your waist was holding you down, even your cheek was a little wet.
What the hell?!
Sighing with a little whine in there for good measure, you reached up to your face to wipe off the wetness. It was drool, you didn’t know if it would have been a good thing or a bad thing if it was yours or not.
You should probably check to see whose arm was around your waist since you had no recollection of whatever the hell happened last night. You must have hit the alcohol a little too hard the previous night. Hand grazing over the figure’s hand, your eyes widened as you noticed the terribly familiar scar. Fuck! God, it was Dean Winchester. Of course it was. Slowly, you lifted your head to take a look at the room that you had apparently booked last night, or stolen - it was probably better if you didn’t know.
At least the walls were nice and calming. And it was kind of nice having Dean snuggle you from behind, keeping you close. Just a few minutes, maybe. Humming, you finally gathered everything you had in you to turn around and face him.
“Dean…” you whispered, your fingers coming up to stroke over his face to wake him up but you noticed the ring on your finger. You shuffled back, almost to the edge of the huge bed and grabbed his left hand, seeing if he had the same situation as you.Jeez, he had a ring on his finger too. Did y’all get married on a whim? Did you get married to different people and come back to the same room? (Because that was plausible.) Did the two of you have sex? “Dean get up!”
He groaned, annoyed that he hadn’t naturally woken up. “What? What?”
You lift the blanket and search his lower half and thankfully he has his pants on - a nice colour too, zaffre to be exact. At least, he got married looking suave and dapper. You had to find out what the hell happened last night. Someone in this hotel had to know what happened, right?
“Dean, I think we might be married. Like legally married. We’re in Vegas.” You bit your lower lip, jumping from the bed and wrapping the quilt around your body, even though you weren’t naked, you still felt a little vulnerable.
“Oh, I see.” Dean hummed as he looked down at his left hand, twirling the ring around his finger. How was he so calm about this? He just brushed it off and acted cool. On the inside though, Dean was freaking out. How could he get married and not recall one thing, other than getting absolutely hammered.
“Well, lets order some room service and then we can find out what happened in the last 12 hours or so.”
Your mouth turned into an upside down smile and if Dean wasn’t freaked out, you shouldn’t be feeling it either. It was gonna work out and you were going to find out what happened to the two of you.
*
After a huge breakfast, and a lot of coffee, the two of you got dressed and made a few calls. While Dean was on the phone, you closed your eyes, seeing something you don’t remember really doing. Was it a dream? Was it something that actually happened?
“I think I sang karaoke with Crowley and made out with Donna.” You shook your head. That couldn’t be right could it? “We gotta know what the hell happened and how we got here.”
You called everyone you could think of that would be here, you even checked the front door to tell them where to meet you and Dean.
“Does anyone have any idea about what happened last night?” You asked when all of them gathered in the hotel room.
*
You had knocked back a few too many drinks already but they just kept on coming, Donna and Jody started off the rounds but Crowley had surprised you as well as Castiel but Sam and Dean did the exact same thing. You were far too gone to care about how many more you could hold to drink Dean under the table.
You were persuasive. So much so that you convinced the boys to join you and the girls to get up on that stage and sing your hearts out to the crowd, belting out the lyrics to a song that all of you knew; it had to be Eye of the Tiger. More drinks were brought up to the stage when you were there. Twenty five minutes had passed and eventually you were thrown off of the stage and out of the bar. It would have been a downer if you had left there empty handed but Jody had pulled out a bottle of Jack from nowhere.
You had to get out of there right now before anyone in the bar found out that a bottle had been stolen. You hightailed it out of there, on your way to the next location. Apparently, that was Donna and Jody’s room.
You started with spin the bottle. The bottle spun and spun until it came to a stop. Donna. You smiled and turned to the woman in question, smiling hard, well a goofy grin more like.
Shifting the pillow from under your butt and climbing onto your knees. “Want us to do it in the closet or you cool here?”
You didn’t have time for her to answer as the rest of the room shouted that they were cool with the two of you making out in front of them. Weirdos.
Despite them reveling in the fact that the two of you were going to kiss, your drunken state devoured their excitement as if it was a compliment.
Shrugging, you cupped Donna’s face in your hands, rubbing your thumbs over her cheek. Her hands slid from your shoulders to your waist, pulling you in closer before you crashed your lips together. She tasted so good, the strawberry gloss tainting your tongue. A few minutes had passed and you practically had to be torn away from Donna’s lips just to continue the game. She pushed her hair out of her face and breathed out, probably the first breath she had taken since the two of you kissed. You giggled, a little drunk off of her kiss as well as the alcohol, hand slowly sliding from her face down to her thigh.
Now it was Donna’s turn to spin the bottle, out of the corner of your eye, you saw a flick of Crowley’s wrist, a few seconds later the bottle stopped in front of you. Round two. And you were ready, completely okay with it. A little more ready than last time. The way you climbed into her lap, legs wrapping around her thigh, said everything you needed to say, you really wanted to kiss the fuck out of her again.
You licked your tingling lips, still tasting the strawberry on them. Donna had a twinkle in her eye, grabbing your thigh and having you rock on hers. You couldn’t help yourself anymore, you dove right in kissing hers once more, moaning right into her mouth when her thumb rubbed over your clothed nipple. Donna teased you, her mouth moving from your lips to the corner of your mouth. She tipped your head up and to the side, lips pecking over your cheek to your ear. “I think we should give the others a chance to snog each other's faces off. Maybe we could pick this up another time.”
Spin the bottle was soon followed by a grueling game of truth or dare. Sam was first and he picked truth, so you had to pick a dirty one. What would be the first dirty thing you would do if you woke up as the opposite sex?
“Give my new titties a squeeze,” he snorted, laughing as he thought about what he was going to say next. “Oh, I’d finger myself too. See what feels good.”
He made a good point. Crowley had entertained the idea that he had fantasised about a teacher that he had way back when he was a human. It was weird because what was hot then is definitely not hot now. Thank you, evolution.
Donna was up next, truth. You were going to have to think of a real humdinger but all you could come up with was ‘have you ever watched another couple have sex?’ She had the nerve to look a little embarrassed. Oh, she definitely had seen something.
“Come on, Donnie. Tell us about your voyeurism.” You poked at her side, trying to get a little bit of information from her. You wanted to know the juicy gossip.
“Okay, Pokey McPokerson. They weren’t exactly a couple, more like a one night stand on a hunt and the guy forgot that he had an extra roommate.” Donna stares pointedly across the room and when you look over you see the tips of Dean’s ears go pink. He’s been caught red handed, well butt naked. “I kinda wished it was me but then I realised it’s more fun to watch then fantasize about it later.”
A few of the dares included Dean doing a little striptease to everyone in the circle, getting him down to his underwear. Sam tried to do a back flip but he passed out right after he jumped. Crowley snapped his fingers and magicked up some clothes that would have cost a fortune but apparently you could have what you wanted when you were the king of hell.
Jody had admitted that she had a crush on Crowley when they had gone on their few dates.  Castiel surprised you when he chose a dirty dare. Donna clumsily rose to her feet and reached into her backpack, pulling out a blindfold. Of course she had a blindfold. Donna put the blindfold over Castiel’s eyes and told the others to stay quiet. She motioned to Jody, curling her finger towards her. This was crazy. Castiel was either going to get a hand job or a blowjob and you would be happy to watch either.
Lastly, it was your time to shine. You had to pick dare, you couldn’t chicken out now but you couldn’t wait to see what they could make up for you. Much to your surprise, it wasn’t a dirty one. It was to go to a church and marry Dean. Thankfully, you had the awesome clothes that Crowley rustled up for all of you. You took another shot from the bottle.
“You know what? Let’s go do this shit. Anyone have a ring that fits my ring finger?” You said, waggling your left hand, then looking sweetly at Crowley before giggling. “Please. You have great style.”
Crowley smirked smugly, his head tilted to the side, clearly falling for your flattery. Rolling his eyes he put his hands into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out a pair of beautiful rings. “Off you pop, go tie the knot, lovebirds.”
“You may now kiss the bride.” The officiant pronounces, like he’s done this way too many times before. This was Vegas after all.
You and Dean shrugged at each other before he grabbed at the back of your neck to pull you in closer to him. His lips press to yours and you’re surprised that his lips against yours are so soft. A complete contrast to what Donna’s were. It was nice, almost too nice. But you liked it either way.
You, Dean, and the others exited the hall and giggled at how ridiculous the situation was. You and Dean were married because of a drunk dare and at the moment it was a pretty cool marriage, Dean had a weird look in his eyes when he looked at you, like there was something different there and you could feel something different too.
You hung out for another hour celebrating a marriage before the others called it quits and retired to their rooms. Dean held your hand and pulled you to his room.
“Want me to lift you over the threshold.” Dean said with a goofy look on his face, eyebrows wiggling at you, making you do a gigglesnort.
“You’re so corny.” You said, linking your fingers together, lifting your leg so that he could carry you. “Let’s go, husband.”
Dean took your instructions to heart, quickly opening up his room door escorting you inside, moving a few feet into the huge room before setting you back down on the floor. He hummed,it was funny. How all of a sudden could he be a husband and have you as his wife? His hands flew your hips to steady you before you fell.
Sparks flew.
Dean’s eyes flickered over yours and yours to his. Your eyes darted over his lips when his tongue poked through. It was like something had changed inside of you. Dean growled when your lips collided once more and there was more hunger in this one. Without breaking the seal on Dean’s lips, you slipped his jacket off of his shoulders. Fingers deftly unbuttoning his shirt, it followed suit with the jacket onto the floor.
Giggling, Dean lifts you onto the bed and holds you close. It’s not even a minute later before the two of you passed out, snoring extremely loud that even the neighbours could hear if they were sleeping.
Eyes wide, you huffed out a puff of air, completely overwhelmed at everything you had achieved last night. You couldn’t believe that Castiel got a blow job from Jody and he didn’t even know who it was. Maybe Vegas, alcohol, and a game of dirty truth or dare was not a good mix, you wouldn’t be doing that anytime soon but it was nice just to let loose and take a break from the hunting world.
“So, are we married? What are we gonna do about it? Being legally married is kinda dope though, I think you should just take me on a date next time.” The questions rolled and you blubbered, wishing that you hadn’t said that last bit out loud, but if you were going to get married then you hoped that the next time you got married you knew what happened and you were actually going to be dating before the big day. “Alrighty then. Day at the pool or annulment first?”
“I could go for a swim. We’ll annul the marriage before we go, let’s just enjoy this time before we go back to reality. Besides, if we tell people we’re newlyweds we get some sweet deals on shit, we might even get a free slice of pie.”
Donna smiled, rolling her eyes at Dean before her eyes swept over your body. She discreetly pulled out her phone, her fingers tapping away then put it away. When your phone vibrated, you checked to see the message, knowing it was from her.
“I actually forgot to bring a bathing suit. Donna, do you think you could hook me up?” You asked, a hand smoothing over your face. Getting to her feet, Donna held out her hand so you took it and followed her to her room.
“I have the perfect thing for you.”
Feedback is gold and appreciated

Something Sweet: Part Five
~sweeter shifts~
one ~ two ~ three ~ four ~ five ~ six ~ seven ~ eight ~ nine
pairing: minsung, jisung/minho
warning: mild language
words: 2k ish
summary: That feeling you get when your friend visits you at work? yeah that. Thats all this is...
a/n: Its been a little rough, but heres a short chapter i hope u enjoy <3
 -----------
Felix stood behind the counter at the convenience store on the corner of two intersecting districts. He was a few hours into his overnight shift. Usually he could do homework on these late nights, but with it being summer, he found himself antsy and daydreaming his shift away. His brain was busy re-running his dance routines for upcoming performances and auditions that he had been working on, as customers periodically filtered in the store.
Not many customers came in other than the few students pulling all-nighters and night shift workers coming in for a bite to eat. Felix had begun to recognize a few faces as some had solidified themselves as regulars.
A black hooded figure came in close to 3am. Even though Felix had never really seen much of the guy's face he recognized the black hoodie and mask wearing guy as a regular around his late night shifts. He was interesting, not like the obvious tired student of the late night business worker. He had no idea what it was that brought him to the convenience store at the ungodly hours of the morning.
Felix always liked to make guesses as to what lives his especially mysterious customers lived. He had already imagined the black hoodied regular as a b-list idol group member. Then a gym instructor, but mostly due to the one time he came in with a cut off shirt and Felix was taken aback by the size of the man’s arms. Most recently he imagined that the other could’ve been a bartender, because of the pretty consistent time he arrives in the late am on weekends.
This random Thursday night though, the dark figure, back in his usual hoodie, gathered various energy drinks and cup ramens from the back shelves, and brought them out to the check out.
“Is this all for tonight?”
“Oh yeah thats all”
Felix began ringing up his purchases when the other spoke up suddenly.
“We’ve met before, I’m not crazy or anything right?”
“Huh?” Felix looked up confused as the man usually seldom said anything during his late night purchases.
“Yeah I thought I recognized your name, You’re Minho”s, Jisung’s friend’s, roommate, right?” Felix nodded in return but the confused look on his face sparked the other to remember that he was wearing a mask and hat that covered most of his features. Removing the mask revealed that behind it were the sharp features of Changbin, one of three artists that formed 3RACHA, that Yes, Felix had actually just met that past weekend.
Felix’s eyes widened at the sudden realization that one of his regulars was actually a member of his favorite group of artists. ‘Holy fucking shit, I am actually blind, godamn it Felix’
“Y-Yes, thats me. Sorry I didn't recognize you, I-uh didn’t realize that you, were uh- you.” ‘Smooth Lix wow’
Changbin chuckled at the freckled boys stutter. “That’s alright, I tend to forget that I'm wearing my mask sometimes. Anyway I recognized you when you were dancing last weekend, and when you had introduced yourself.” Felix was trying his best to internalize his anxious starstruck feelings. “We watched your performance, and I was trying to find a day to come here and tell you that your crew’s performance was really good.”
Okay yeah that was it, Felix’s eyes were practically falling out of his head with how wide his expression was. “Really? You liked it? That’s really awesome. Thank you so much. That really means a lot coming from you not gonna lie.” Felix’s pride for his crew was nothing small and the validation and praise from someone he is a fan of himself, makes his heart soar.
The smile on his face is so wide and genuine and the light that flickers in his eyes lit up the whole store, even in the middle of the night. Changbin thought that his smile felt something like sunshine, and reminded him of the warmth Jisung emitted when he was at his happiest, but of course he would never tell the other that. Changbin caught himself smiling back involuntarily.
“Yeah, we’ll have to come watch you guys again sometime.”
Felix nodded vigorously at that and finished checking out the items the older had brought to the counter. Neither of the twos smiles seemed to completely fade from their faces.
“Thank you Felix-ssi, have a good night.”
“You too!” Felix replied and bowed respectively to the older.
Changbin replaced the mask on his face but found himself still smiling at the encounter with the boy as he walked bac home.

“Alright, I’ll put that right in for you. I hope you enjoy your cocktails in the mean time.” Minho flashes his sickening sweet server smile at the couple, before heading to his station to input the orders. There had been a steady flow of customers at Menu 98 keeping Minho busy for his dinner shift. Thankful to not be closing, Minho was doing his best to maintain his polite persona without glancing at his watch too often. Time always passed slower, when he found himself counting his hours.
Before moving on to check on a previous table, Seungmin waves him down letting him know he has a new table to wait, but not before catching his arm. Usually he would find a Seungmin attached to his elbow if the other wanted to share some gossip about a recent customer, or something of the sort. Expecting the same Minho’s ears peaked with interest.
“You got a new table.” That’s unsurprising. “And they’re asking specifically for you.” That’s more surprising.
“Wait, what?”
“I don't know, you tell me. Any rich, wide-eyed, twenty-somethings, you forgot to tell me about, hyung?”
Minho thought the eyebrow raise from the younger was a little much given the circumstances. The few seconds of silence that pass between them gave Seungmin all the information he was looking for but a sigh still escapes his lips at the stubbornness of the other.
“Well one, Han Jisung, is waiting in section B for you.” Seungmin scurries off to return to the front, a suspicious look in his expression. Minho hadn’t really brought up much of his personal life to Seungmin, but the host hadn’t stopped his prodding ever since he had turned up to work, as Seungmin says it, glowing and smiling like a newlywed. Minho wasn’t sure if he was actually acting much different since beginning to talk to Jisung, but apparently the shift in his mood was enough to confirm to his coworker that something was up. Minho already knew that Seungmin would have a field day if he found out that he had actually first met Jisung at the restaurant and hadn’t told him. But keeping his work friend on his toes, spices up his otherwise monotonous job.
---
“Good evening sir, would you like to order any appetizers or drinks to start off?” Minho found himself instinctually throwing on his polite grin and playing the part of a perfect waiter. Well, at least for the time being.
“Hm idk Min-hyung, you ordered for me last time, got any suggestions.” Jisung, seemingly unphased by Minho’s generic opening line, barely looked up from the menu as the older had approached him. Being sure to make direct eye contact, Jisung then smiled cheekily, “but I think we both know I didn’t come here for the fancy food and fruity drinks.”
Minho tried not to roll his eyes too obviously, as his smile morphed into a smirk to match the younger’s, “Perhaps, but if you don't order anything, I'll have to ask you to leave, because sadly, you can not pay just to look at my pretty face.”
“That's a shame I would've ordered five hours of that up front if it was on the menu.” The chuckle coming from Minho was enough to already ease the nerves that Jisung had been feeling since he last saw him.
“Well, Lucky for me, sad for you, I’m not working for five more hours, sorry to disappoint.”
“When do you get off then kind sir?” The goofy voice he used brought back the smile he had been aching to see, and made any of the embarrassment he may have felt worth it.
“Wouldn’t you like to know.”
“I would yes.” JIsung smiled, batting his eyelashes, a part of him knew it probably wouldn’t be that easy.
“Well not to worry, it looks like I can start you off with some water, and complimentary sides, while I give you some more time to look over the menu.”
“Hyung wai-” Minho walked off but not before sending a subtle wink the other’s way. Jisung ears may or may not have turned bright red, but thankfully, there was no one there to tease this time.
---
Jisung ended up ordering another one of Minho’s suggestions, this time it was a marinated sea bass filet that came with a similar fried potato side to the burger he had chosen the first time. Although the fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, to Jisung it still felt like a fancy version of fish and chips. Minho had giggled at that when Jisung suggested they rename it some bass-related pun, ‘for the kids, ya know.’
“So are you going to tell me how what time you get off, or are really gonna let my dumb ass sit outside the restaurant and wait for how many hours it is until you’re done”
Minho laughed at the image of Jisung waiting for him like a stray outside. “Tempting I'm not gonna lie, but It's not for much longer. AND if you're interested there's a bar next door that may or may not be my usual after dinner shift destination.”
Jisung couldn’t help but smile at that. “REally? That sounds great.” He couldn’t lie that he had spent most of his free time thinking about when he could see MInho next. Probably not the best timing granted that 3RACHA has been busy preparing for their album debut, but a part of him couldn't help but feel all warm inside at the prospect of getting to know Minho better in person.
“Okay, well then i'll see you there? Yeah?”
Minho nods gently with his own giddy smile to match.
The infamous heart-shaped grin was in its full form once Minho had suggested their next meeting place, and Minho could feel his heart leaping at that happiness that Jisung’s smile emitted. Jisung about leaped out of his chair after paying. Practically dancing his way next door to said bar, and for the first time that week Jisung felt like a song was writing itself in his head.
---
“It's him isn't it”
“Who?”
“The reason that your smiling so much, but like actually, not that dead inside expression you give me when I tell you ‘cheer up’”
“Hmmm” Minho’s ability to play dumb? Top tier. Sadly Minho’s ability to lie to Seungmin? Absolute trash.
“Come on Hyung! Just tell me!!!” Seungmin was exasperated. This wasn’t the first time he had confronted Minho about what was going on, and maybe one too many times had resulted in Minho’s signature move, the ‘I don’t want to tell you, so instead will change the subject’.
Fine. “HMM hmmmmmmm….ok….maybe we’ve been talking for a while-”
“OH MY GOD FINALLY! I knew it as soon as he walked in the door. He was all heart-eyes asking for you, and for when you get off.”
“Wait, did you tell him when my shift was over?”
“God no, that's gotta be against some employee code.”
“Oh okay good.”
“But you're off now anyways right? Is he going to wait for you? Are you going out- oh my god he's definitely waiting for you. Have you seen how much he tipped? You sure he isn't some bizarre 20 year old sugar daddy?”
“Seungmin!”
“Okay Sorry, I'm just excited for you. You never tell me anything. All I know about you is that you’re a dancer and you worked in a bar before here.”
“Its was a host bar actually”
“Wait what?!”
“Well, if you look at the time. As you’ve said I have a sugar daddy waiting for me, bye bye now”
“Wait hyung what the fuck!”

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. "
Charlie x Reader Fic
a/n: i used a writing prompt here because there were some prompts i found on my phone. they're from creative-writing-prompts on tumblr (?) omg enjoy 💕
Tumblr media
Word on the street is all about this Charlie Dalton. All the girls in your school can't seem to shut up about him, this guy from Wellton who pulled an infamous stunt in front of everybody.
"Have you heard about what happened at Wellton?"
"God, that Charlie has guts."
"He's single right?"
All this gossip annoyed you. Either they applaud his not-so-daring feat, or they suddenly fancy him. Apparently, this boy has become popular here and you never understood why he would do something so stupid.
You're a real stickler for the rules, future mapped out and planned for, and you always had this thing where everything should be in order. Charles Dalton, that jerk, just disrupted the peace and order you have been accustomed to by turning these girls into boy crazy and lovestruck little girls. His name made your blood boil and it made you lose focus. They never seem to get enough of him, and that's probably because there aren't really a lot of options in boarding school.
Wherever you went, his name would always pop up. Whoever you talked to would ask if you knew. You would roll your eyes and tell them they're wasting time on someone who isn't even worth it. This boy was getting into your nerves, and (rumor has it) another girl's knickers.
There came a time you just couldn't take it anymore. Even your best friend was talking about him with a mix of amusement and disappointment. She thought this boy had potential but wasted it on a foolish prank. Both of you shared the same sentiments, although your friend was obviously intrigued.
You had a lot of homework to do, and with everything that was going on, you decided you didn't have time for this. You sigh loudly and throw a pillow at your friend, exasperated. "Hey!" she said as the pillow hit her face. "What was that for?"
You turned to her, annoyed and stressed from all the homework and drama. Your roommate raises an eyebrow, waiting for an answer. "I'm getting tired of this— this boy!" you tell her and she stifles a laugh.
It wasn't funny, and then she replied, "Who knew that the great y/n would lose focus over a boy?" You ignored her and went back to your homework. There was still so much to do with calculus, and you haven't checked on your science project yet. Your French essay is due tomorrow and it isn't near perfect. You didn't let the idea of Charlie Dalton get to you.
Days went by and the chatter started to lessen. You smiled to yourself, everything was slowly going back to normal. Your focus was back, and nothing else seemed to interrupt it. Right now, everything is perfect for you. Back on the right track to be one of the country's most esteemed lawyers.
Everything was almost back to normal, you hardly even thought about him, and no one
had any more stories to tell about the infamous little pick who caught St. Agnes' by storm. One fateful day, he was once again the talk of the town. Rumour has it, he went out with one of the girls from her class. People kept on talking, asking this girl to tell him about Charlie. All of them would pile around her, and ask if he was what they dreamed he would be like.
You thought it was all rubbish. Charles Dalton? You bet he got under her skirt. Your classmate's story about him being the perfect gentleman was too good to be true. There's no such thing as a gentleman, and you believed Charlie was far from that. People see what they want to see, and you thought this girl just let heard what he wanted her to hear. Quite stupid, you thought.
One day as you were walking around the courtyard, book in hand, you caught sight of him. The infamous Charlie Dalton, in the flesh. You couldn't deny he was handsome. There was an air of arrogance around him, and a hint of brilliance to which you were so. curious about. He was with a different girl, and he gave a smirk you knew all too well that he was up to no good. He dropped her off at the dorms, and you shook your head in disappointment. You saw this coming, but in the back of your mind you always hoped it wasn't true.
He passed by you, and smiled. His brown hair all messed up, with eyes that always twinkled with mischief and chaos. "Hi," he said to you. You gripped your book tighter and ignored him, walking away. Charlie always liked girls who played hard to get. He found the chase to be rewarding. He turned around, "I didn't catch your name."
You muttered something, and continued to walk towards the dorms. There were footsteps following you, and you tried your best to ignore him as he tried to get your attention. "Did you just say your name? I didn't get it the first time." He caught up to you and went ahead. There he was, facing you: Charlie Dalton of Wellton Academy.
You decided to be blunt and said, "I didn't, and no, I'm not telling you." You sighed, "I was asking you to leave me alone." He wasn't taken aback by this comment, after all, it was part of the chase, and Charlie enjoyed every second of it.
"If you say so," he said sarcastically. He is so infuriating, you thought. You looked him in the eyes and you were inwardly fazed by how beautiful he really was up close. You always hid your emotions well, and you certainly didn't want to break that wall in front of this jerk.
"Did I stutter?" you replied coldly. You took a deep breath and once again told him to leave you alone. He chuckled and told you, mocking defeat, "Whatever you say, sweetheart." He waved at you and went on his way. Charlie was amazed, and decided he was gonna try harder than usual. That meant he absolutely had to, because most of the time they just came onto him.
You thought about this encounter for a considerable amount of time, and sometimes wondered if you were to see him again. You were working on your english homework until someone on the phone asked for you. You hate being interrupted, and it annoyed you to drop whatever you've been doing for something so irrelevant. Begrudgingly, you grab the phone and put it to your ear, rolling your eyes. "Hello?"
"Hello to you too, y/n," the sound of his voice made you mad. You tried to keep it together, your friends were watching. You couldn't lose control now, it would guarantee him victory. You whispered, "You're not supposed to call."
"Well sweetheart I did, now y/n, tell me, what are you doing Saturday night?" You ignored the question and said, "How did you get my name you jerk?" You heard people laughing from the other line, who were teasing Charlie. "I asked for a pretty girl and they led me to you," he slurred. For a moment, you felt flattered, but mostly embarrassed. That was officially the worst line you have ever heard.
"Shut up. Now if you don't have anything important to say, I'm hanging up now." You put down the phone and went back to your schoolwork. You can't afford to have any more distractions, especially a Dalton-shaped distraction.
Almost every night, he would call, and like always you would give the phone back, telling everyone you absolutely had no time for this. This boy was persistent. You tried your best not to lose your temper in front of your friends and classmates. That rarely happened. You're y/n, and he isn't your Waterloo.
The day you've been waiting for came. Charlie stopped calling. You thought he got bored and latched himself onto another pretty thing. You were a bit hurt, to know he was exactly what you thought he was but it worked best that way, and you were starting to feel normal again. He wasn't the talk of the town anymore, and that alone gave you the motivation to do everything on your to-do list.
You went out to the courtyard for a stroll and brought your favorite book along. Your eyes widened when you saw him. Messy brown hair with everything undone. There he was again, and he looked like he was waiting. You continued to walk towards your favorite spot in the courtyard, made yourselg comfortable and started to read. "Hey y/n," Charlie said. At that moment, you wanted your soul to leave your body. You closed your book and looked up, "To what do I owe this unwanted encounter?" There was sarcasm dripping in your voice and Charlie raised an eyebrow in amusement. He ignored your comment and asked, "What are you doing tomorrow night?"
You didn't answer. He sat down next to you and looked at what you were reading. "Shakespeare, huh? You've got good taste," he commented. You smiled a little, and felt better that this boy, even for a moment, stopped pestering you. You were a bit glad you at least had something in common, and relieved he wasn't just a prick. He was a brilliant prick who knew his stuff, and you were somehow attracted by this.
You just sat there in silence for the whole afternoon. You were immersed in your book, and all Charlie did was stare at you. The silence was endearing, and you stopped only to find him sleeping. You swore he became more attractive. This boy is beautiful, and when it hit you, you started to think about everything you worked for only to be disrupted by him. You pat his arm gently, trying to wake him up. It was getting late and you had to catch up on your study group tonight.
He blinked a few times and stood up, offering you his hand. You took it and he smiled, looking away. He earned it, you thought. "My friend Neil's performing tomorrow at Henley Hall, and since you love Shakespeare so much, bet you'd try to take a look at it," he said finally.
Shakespeare was your favorite poet, and it's been so long since you've watched a Shakespearean play. It was a hard offer to consider. If you accepted, you would be going with him, and that would make it seem like a date. "I guess you can call it a date," he drawled.
You pondered over it as he walked you back to the dorms. Annoying as he was, he knew how to get a girl's attention, and you were no exception. You didn't answer him, and told him how you were running late instead. You felt his hand on your shoulder, turned you around, and once again there you were: face to face with Charlie Dalton. This time, you couldn't help but feel flustered, and it was evident. He smirked a little bit, and that alone shifted your mood. One moment he was charming, the next one a jerk. You moved away and muttered a curse under your breath. "Come on, I saw that, y/n," he pointed out. "Admit it, you like me."
Once again he was this conceited bastard. You didn't know which was more annoying: his behavior or the fact you were attracted to this boy. You pursed your lips and tried not to lose your temper. Charlie just stood there, waiting.
"Silence means yes, you know," he smiled. You rolled your eyes, and started to lose the cool façade you had going on. "You know what, Dalton? Do whatever you want."
"You're insufferable, and I can't believe I spent an afternoon with you! You're a jerk, and you're too conceited for your own good," you said with so much frustration. "I'm not someone you just plan to fool around with, and I'm sure there's another girl waiting for you to sweep her off her feet. And just so it's clear, I'm not that girl, and I don't want to be that girl." Charlie just stood there, listening.
"You know it's a shame. You've wasted so much time and energy on me, and it's endearing and flattering, and I'll admit you're quite attractive, but you're so goddamn infuriating! And guess what? I could kiss you right now." You ran your hands through your hair, frustration and annoyance rushing through you. His eyes widened as he heard the last thing you said. You realized it was too late, and it's undeniable. Charlie Dalton was so damn attractive and you can't believe it worked on you.
He put his hands in his pockets, and smiled at his feet. You were a blushing mess, and his smile wasn't helping at all. He pulled you in and finally replied, "You're very welcome to do it."
