charles almost always has to be hurt when he's trying to help the people he loves, indirectly or directly. has to sit in shaw's head while he dies to make sure he doesn't kill erik. has to field all these voices he was scared of for the first time in ten yrs and nearly get crushed by a stadium to keep his sister safe. gets tormented by jean and these aliens when trying to reach out to her to save her from herself. gets brainwashed into nearly killing every mutant when visiting erik in jail to play chess and try to find hope in him. quite literally dies when trying to reach out to jean in the last stand. something or other about how for every action has an equal and opposite reaction and no matter how much kindness charles reaches out with there will always be a force punishing him for it. and yet he is kind anyway
