She went to his apartment so he couldn’t decline an invitation to hers. Scully brought Thai food and a six pack, wore stretchy pants and an oversized gray Henley she stole from Jack Willis.

Mulder sighs when he opens the door, rubs a hand over his face. “Scully, go home.”

She shoves past him to the living room. She deposits their dinner on the coffee table and makes herself comfortable on the couch.

“I was planning to wash my hair,” Mulder says, shutting the door. “I have to clean the fish tank.”

Scully peers at the aquarium. “It looks fine to me, sit down.”

He does but still looks annoyed. “I really just want to be alone right now. This was one for the books.”

She knows, she gets it, she’d be doing the same in his shoes. She’s imagined watching Mulder watching her die in that little room, if she hadn’t grabbed the fire alarm. What would Modell have done then? Made Mulder eat a bullet too? Forbid him if he’d wanted to? She shivers a little - both their lives saved by a chance glimpse in a mirror.

“Then pretend you’re alone,” she says, passing him a foil container of som tum. “We don’t have to talk.”

She doesn’t even want to talk, she finds. She just wants them together tonight.

Mulder looks thoughtful. He opens two beers and passes her one. Heaps papaya and noodles and a spring roll each onto two plates. Turns on the TV, which is partway into the opening credits of The Sandlot.

It’s on tape, Scully realizes. It’s a movie he’d started watching deliberately, a way to comfort himself.

They eat. They watch it and never say a word, but she’s curled against him when they finish it. She feels good too. Happy, even.

Scully takes his hand again, as she had in the hospital. She laces their fingers together, because they are alive. He presses her knuckles to his lips in the silent dark.

She touches his cheek with the pads of her fingers. She walks out the door, she drives herself home.

he finds out you’re the lifeguard at the pool when he goes there to swim one day, and he sees an opportunity. he pretends to drown to get your attention, and he’s very convincing, too. you get him out of the water and perform CPR on him, and you’re relieved to see that it worked. eddie thanks you for what you did, and when he comes back to the pool again a week or two later, he actually asks you out instead.

you go out with him. he stays behind after he “goes home” to watch you undress in your room. he sneaks back into the house when he thinks you’re asleep, but then he overhears you touching yourself and moaning his name as you do it.

State Of Mind

Ah, summer. When I was a kid, it was my favorite time of the year. School was out long before Alice Cooper could write a song about it. Long days, short nights, miles and miles of bike riding, and sandlot baseball games that went on all day. Life was good, and I hadn’t a care in the world.

Of course, things are different as adults. There are lawns to mow (I came home to a 10-acre jungle from my early-summer travels this year, thanks to record rains while I was gone). Bugs to repel. Skin cancer to worry about. Air conditioning units to fret over (said the man who just shelled out $500 yesterday for a repair call). Yeah, it’s not as much fun as it once was. Responsibilities, yo. I’m not a grumpy old man, though. Promise.

But summer has been, is, and will continue to be the time when marketers have fun releasing all manner of seasonal promotions. From blockbuster movies to new soda flavors, collectible Dr. Pepper cans featuring the latest Spiderman movie, tasty menu variants, and more, marketers pull out the stops and have fun.

Like Heinz and their new 50-state series of collectible condiment packages. Say whaaaat?

Now before I continue, please know that I am a lifelong collector. I got that gene from my father, who saved coins and stamps for years, sold them, and then started collecting a wide variety of ephemera. I started with beer cans in the 70s, branched out to include soda cans, then took on signs and bottles, followed by Pez, old coffee cans, and more recently, Starbucks mugs. My kids are going to hate me when I die.

For the life of me, though, I cannot imagine why someone would want to save condiment packages, because…well..what are you going to do with them? Build a special display case? And then worry that rodents might find them worthy of a nibble?

That hasn’t stopped Heinz, though, from creating a unique package for each of the 50 states. While Heinz is wise to position themselves as a condiment company rather than just the ketchup people, these 50 packages will only feature seven different condiments. It is the little foil pouch that will differ. Oh, and they will be available everywhere, so you don’t have to fly to Anchorage to get the Alaska one.

This is an interesting development given the saber rattling of Heinz last spring when the company announced it wanted restaurant patrons to rat out any diner or cafe in which they saw workers filling Heinz bottles with cheaper store-brand alternatives. I wrote about it for my students then, and while we all felt it was important for Heinz to protect its brand, it was a little over the top to consider taking people to task.

The current promo, though, is good clean fun, as it should be for a company that has a 60% share of the ketchup market, and a strong market position in mustard, mayo, relish, BBQ sauce, and others. There’s little point in being the aggressor when you’ve got it good already. Protect your brand, but don’t be a bully about it.

I suspect that if I wind up with any of these, the unused ones will wind up in the center console of my van. You know. In case I need some ketchup or mustard far down the road. And I promise I won’t fret about getting all 50, or yelling, “STOP! That’s my only Maryland!”

It’s all good fun, and I give an A+ to Heinz for stepping down from its bully pulpit and enjoying the warm, long, sunny, days of summer. Gimme a handful of those packets, and I’m calling it good.

Alright Rindo, we’re just diving into this so you’d better have a good plan. Right? You have some idea of how to convince a man who wants to kill you all that you all need to be on the same side, right? You’re not just gonna tell him to not do it and hope for the best. Right?

What in the ever-loving flaming fiddlesticks was that!?

Imagine being Shiba. You’re standing dramatically in the middle of the Scramble Crossing like the drama queen that you are, waiting for the ultimate showdown that you’ve been hyping up for all week. As far as you know, you’re the top dog AND cat around here: nobody ever undermines you, nobody is using you and there’s definitely nobody more powerful than you, not even this plucky band of teenagers who have been proving themselves to be pretty strong and have both two ex-Reapers and a living legend in their ranks (but between you and yourself, you think he’s pretty overrated). Nonetheless, while you’re hoping for a challenge, you’re confident that this epic little showdown is in the bag and once it is, job done. This is all there is and while it’s an odd form of Saturday evening entertainment, you’ve been looking forward to it since you first came to this soon-to-be-a-sandlot city three years ago. It’s the big day. Your big day!

And then the young leader of the group, one of, if not the youngest of them all, cuts you off mid-monologue (that you’d been rehearsing all day!) and says “Hey, we kinda need you to call this whole thing off. We already beat you and it turns out we have better things to do.”

Frankly, I’m impressed Shiba actually bothered to hear Rindo out. I half expected him to just spontaneously combust (which would have been very on-brand for him) the moment he was told to “stop the game”. Gives me hope that he’s not totally beyond reason. Still, he’s practically an award-winning narcissist so while I admire Rindo’s gumption, I think our boy needs an advisor. For all his team-therapist strengths, he’s definitely no strategist.

I like that the moment where Rindo clearly completely lost Shiba was when he said they’d won. The guy just straight up clocked out right there and then.

Gonna start by saying I’m super grateful for everyone who’s followed me and enjoyed my blog, I didn’t think I’d make much of this when I started Tumblr but it’s been really fun so far <3 I skipped my 200 celebration, so I’d like to start it today for my birthday and to maybe make up for that.

(even though I’m still working on requests and such I’m hoping this can get me back into a writers mood)

Born locally, Emil had what he would consider a mostly fairly middle of the road childhood. He often felt a bit detached from his parents, but he wanted for very little outside of perhaps a more socially stimulating environment. His uncle who was deemed by his ma as the ‘wild’ one of her family is very close to him.

A lot of times it was his uncle that took him to tee-ball, and sat in the stands all through his schooling years on the field.

Just as he was about to pack his bags and get out of dodge on a baseball scholarship, he experienced one of his first real upsets in life. His ma was in a bad car crash, and had to go through physical therapy. With medical bills and her needing help around the house, Emil put off college.

A semester turned into a year plus, but eventually with luck on his side and some help from his high school sweetheart’s family - Emil left town for his belated start out in San Diego on scholarship and studying physical therapy.

Everything was going pretty swimmingly, even his long distance relationship and he was so close to making the draft that he could practically hear the stadium crowds cheering for him. but alas life had one more curve ball for him & he was given the news that Maya was pregnant and Emil immediately dropped everything to go back home.

Things went downhill from there in the years to follow. Between his own emotional distress of giving up his dream, there was a lot of tension between him and Maya that he thought getting married could somehow fix. When it didn’t, the pair had a really ugly divorce and a custody battle you’d expect to be run by Judge Judy. Maya was successful in painting Emil poorly and in the end, though he’d get visitations, he lost the custody battle for Isabel.

Having followed in his father’s footsteps upon coming back home, Emil nowadays has a very steady career. Though none of it is what he imagined he would be doing growing up he’s far from miserable, he’s adapted pretty well. Being able to turn his welding experience into his own thing by getting all his diving certifications definitely helped him settle in. Coaching tee-ball and being a sub for a local softball team certainly helps as well. The main stress in his life currently is dealing with his ex-wife and having to sometimes fight tooth and nail to get his owed visitations etc. with Isa. It doesn’t help that she’s old enough to ask questions Emil doesn’t always have an answer to, like why she has to stay with her mother. He’s stable enough that he’d like to go back to court, but he’s a little nervous it’d be hard on Isa and that he has less of a leg to stand on when Maya has had her for as long as she has.

Fun facts:

he has a husky named Hercules after the dog in The Sandlot.

can be a bit of a thrill seeker. Likes roller coasters, dancing, spontaneous road trips.

technically has enough diving certifications he could be a diving instructor but has little interest.  

owns way too many jerseys kind of sports fan, has seasonal tickets. supports a lot of local teams.

has a serious shellfish allergy, which is slightly amusing given the local cuisine.

likes #DadJokes and always has a snack on him because of either Isa or the kids he coaches for tee-ball.

Female best friend - I'd like them to be a local similar in age if possible, so they could know his ex-wife and have gone to school together.

as of right now in 2024, i have been writing for about ten years now! i started out writing silly little fantasy stories with my friend before eventually beginning to post some of them on wattpad. then, after awhile, i began writing fanfiction! (fun fact, my first fanfiction was a benny rodriguez from the sandlot fic on wattpad lol you can imagine how old i was at that point) i slowly began to grow out of wattpad and ventured over here to tumblr as well as ao3, and i even had an instagram where i used to post lots of my fanfiction! now i solely focus on tumblr and ao3 for fanfiction :)

here’s another fun fact, my birthday is on may the 4th :)
