Jupiter's Storm - Chap 16 additional notes

Teehee! Hi guys! Chapter 16 was a bit of a lore drop. Here's a post detailing important changes and updates from the recent chapter! :3

Where does this chapter leave our characters?

As of right now, Chapter 16 leaves our Jayce, Ekko, and Heimderdinger in Duumvirate custody (implied sitting outside, everyone's curiously not resisting this). Viktor is still bluetooth (essentially) operating Blitzcrank in the intervention room. Sky is currently locked up in Viktor's childhood room (mental construct), waiting with company for the Herald.

What we know of right now...

Doomed!Svetla

So, Doomed!Svetla didn't send Jayce back to fix his timeline on honest terms... woof! It seems her thank you gift wasn't a gift. Or was it? With this reveal in mind, I just want to point out what we know to be fact with her story and what we don't yet! Everything about her story is confirmed to be true by a separate perspective (Chap 12 (Singularity), Fortune, lol Flying Lessons will confirm a specific part of her post Fortune)--OUTSIDE of the following.

Coincidentally, there are 41 corrupted listed under casualties.

"Bugging"

A concept similar to what we've been seeing with Consumption (taking sentient data and storing it in the Hexcore!Fused nervous system). By giving over a piece of herself, she now has control over the bugged individual's nervous system. Though it changes the bugged person into something they're not, Jayce got the better end of what could have happened. Jayce is now a mage.

Hexchildren

The product of a human and hexcore-fused person.

Champions (bastardizing league lore lmao)

A term for Hexcore-Fused mages who've gone through the canon event of consuming their planets (last man standing).

The Duumvirate

Name dropped back in Chapter 11 (Revelations), we are finally getting to meet the "friends" that saved Fortune during his attempt at the end of Chapter 12 (Singularity - Part I). We're finding out that those friends happen to be a community of Champions across different universes (Runes) and timelines. It seems they have a lot of procedures and rules behind them. It looks like Fortune's doing as much as he can to bend them in his daughter's favor.

The Council

The Duumvirate has a council system with variants overseeing different departments within the Duumvirate. They aren't important for now, so we won't worry too hard abt them.

Chaos

A Founding Father of the Duumvirate--the acceleration Rune variant of Viktor and considered a prime Herald. It seems time has left him calm and pleasant. We know from past chapters that his appearances and personal presence is intended to be rare.

Order

A Founding Father of the Duumvirate--and a royal looking idiot. Titled the prime Defender, his brief introduction shows he's a rather frazzled and uptight prick. Has perfect teeth, full brows, and a curious fixation with his hands.

Fortune (V-42-A/Doomed!Viktor)

Waking up in an inpatient institutional facility--Fortune spent roughly 800 years on a psych hold. Taken out of it to serve as the head investigator of Case 41--a case investigating Doomed!Svetla--he's been working under contract for the last 628 years. It seems he's maintaining that contract as a case consultant--implied to have little power over what's decided next. We find out that Fortune is 5944 years old! We also find out that Fortune has been with the Duumvirate for four millennia (end of singularity to now).

Hermit (J-36)

The Head Officer of Case 41, father-figure-like, and Fortune's husband. Confiscated and kept Svetla's knife on his nightstand. It seems him and Fortune have a family friend that he proudly displays in his cubicle as well...

Egg/Incubators

The last time this was referenced was at the start of Act 2--Chapter 6 (eggs!). The last person to be called an Egg was Viktor, by the Hexcore (to Good!Svetla).

For context, The Hexcore disguises itself as Sky to go over plans of Viktor's transformation into the Herald. The Moon/The Egg are both used in reference to Viktor. The Sun is used in reference to Jayce.

What was the point of Bad!Svetla bugging Jayce?

While Chaos and the Duumvirate have their theories--

We really have no idea what she has planned outside of an understanding that-- She's done something like this before. And she's doing it again.

A few years ago, there was a thread on r/asksciencefiction where someone was fishing for a superhero story with an inverted Omni-Man dynamic, or a setting where Homelander's initial presentation is played straight- a setting where the Superman figure actually is the paragon of morality he's initially presented as, but no other superhero is- a situation where you've got one really competent true-blue hero standing head-and-shoulders in power above what's otherwise a complete nest of vipers.

Someone in the thread floated My Hero Academia; while I haven't read it, my understanding is that that's not really an accurate read of what's going on with Stain's neurosis about All-Might being the only "real hero," that the point of that arc is that Stain's got an insane and unreasonable standard and that taking an endorsement deal, while bad, isn't actually grounds for execution. My own contribution to the thread was Gail Simone's Welcome to Tranquility, where a major part of the backstory involved the faux Justice-League's Superman analogue having a little accident because he's the only one who thought they were morally obligated to go public with the secret life-extending macguffin that the rest of the team is using to enforce comic-book time on themselves and their loved ones; while only a couple members of the team are directly in on it, the rest are conveniently incurious. And Jupiter's Legacy gets tantalizingly close to this- The Utopian, a well-meaning stick-in-the-mud, ultimately gets blindsided and couped by his scheming brother who creates a superhero junta staffed by a Kingdom-Come-style glut of third-gen superheroes, who are framed as fundamentally self-interested because only came onto the scene after most of the situations you legitimately need a superhero to handle have been neutralized. (The rub, of course, is that the comic is also highly critical of the Utopian's intellectually incurious self-righteously 'apolitical' approach to superheroism- if for no other reason than that it left him in a position to get blindsided by a coup!) While Jupiter's Legacy gets the closest, all three of these are only loosely orbiting around the spirit of the original idea, and there's something really interesting there- particularly if the Superman figure isn't hopelessly naive in the same way as Utopian. Because first of all, if you're Metaman or Amazingman or whatever brand-name alias the writer goes with, and you really earnestly mean it, and you put together a team of all the other most powerful heroes on earth in order to pool your resources, and then with dawning horror you gradually begin to realize that everyone in the room besides yourself is a fascist or a con artist or abuser or any other variant of a kid with a magnifying glass eyeing that anthill called Earth- What the hell is your next move?

Do you just call the whole thing off? Can you trust that they'll actually go home if you call the whole thing off? I mean you've put the idea in their heads, are you sure that they aren't going to, like, start the Crime Syndicate in your absence? Do you stick around to try and enact containment, see if getting all of these people on a team makes them easier to keep on a leash? But that's functionally going to make you their enabler pretty quickly, right? Overlooking "should you kill them-" can you kill them? You're stronger than any individual one of them- are you stronger than all of them? The first time one of them really crosses a line in a way you can't ignore- will that be a one-on-one fight? Are they the kind of people capable of putting two-and-two together and pre-emptively ganging up on you if you push back too hard? Do you just start trying to get them killed, or keep them at each other's throats so they can't coordinate anything really nasty? Can you squeeze any positive moral utility out of them, or is that just a way to justify not doing the hard work of taking them down? There've been works where the conceit is to question the default assumption that Superman in specific would be a good person, and there've been works where the conceit is to question the default assumption that superheroes in general would be good people. Something to be done, I think, with questioning the default assumption that everyone Superman becomes professionally close to would be good, and to explore how he'd handle it if they weren't.

Eddie Dear - Mercury: Curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, as Eddie is also very intrigued by what his past life was like (lore drop on god⁉️). Also with the themes of communication and expression, it really reminded me of Eddie’s role as a mailman (or in this au, S P A C E C O W B O Y)

Wally Starling - Venus: As Wally is the newest member to our set of Wish Makers, I wanted to keep him as his creative and perpetually-in-love-with-everyone kind of self, and Venus had a lot more in common with him than I thought

Poppy Partridge - the moon: Another obvious choice (also like Wally, the description for Earth’s Moon had more in common with Poppy than I thought!)

Its been twenty years.... But i did it now horrah! Sorry it took forever!!! Also ive never written for him before so sorry if its badly characterized i tried my best

So because of everything happening during the second war, you never really got to get to know him too well

He was probs helping Annabeth with battle plans and whatnot, so after the war is when you'd actually get closer

It probably started with him trying to unwind, he's traumatized and lowkey stressed so he decides to go on a walk

He ends up finding a nice place to sit....by the strawberry fields...you just so happened to have been doing your weekly chores and...BOOM! JASON JUMPSCARE!

You ended up talking a bit, and pretty quickly became decent friends.

You were kind of surprised how sweet he seemed, especially because of how almost stoic he was when planning for war (he has rbf to me)

He actually got really excited to talk about Demeter stuff, her roman variant was one he often had to work around at camp Jupiter.

So it was cool for him to get close with one of her kids.

You could talk about how you loved camp being so dependent on nature, the woods for protection, the strawberries that were always at lunch, etc

Names: Augusta & Iuno

A shoddy collection of every bit of information I remember about the meaning of their names from the years I wasted learning Latin and how they tie back to roman mythology or society because that's what Septimont is based on, all double checked through Wikipedia, Britannica and baby name websites to make sure I'm not sharing complete lies.

Augusta means venerable one and comes from the title "Augustae", a feminine variant of the name or title "Augustus" given to Roman emperrors.

It was an honorific title given to empresses and women of the imperial families. The first woman to receive this title was Livia Drusilla, who received it after her husbands death in 14 AD. She was known as Julia Augusta until her own death in 29 AD. Several years later in 42 AD she was elevated to the status of goddess by her grandson and named Diva Augusta.

The first woman to receive the title as empress while her husband was still alive and ruling alongside her was Julia Agrippina (later named Agrippina Augusta), fourth wife (and niece) of Emperor Claudius, the mother of Nero, the final Emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty.

It was an indicator of power and influence, and was not given automatically to every empress or only to empresses. Sometimes family members of the emperror, like a sister, daughter or his mother, received the title instead.

The name Juno (Latin Iuno) is often believed to be derived from the Latin words iunior (adolecent) and iuvenitas (youth).

Juno is also the name of the goddess of marriage and childbirth in ancient Rome, equated to Hera, the queen of the gods in Greek mythology.

She's the daughter of Saturn and Ops, sister of Neptune, Ceres, Vesta, Pluto, and Jupiter. She was also Jupiter's wife.

She was the patron goddess of Rome and the Roman empire, a protector and champion of women, and a member of the Capitoline triad alongside Jupiter and Minerva, but she has also gained many other roles and names over the years.

As Juno Moneta she was also seen as a protector of funds, which led to money being coined in her temple on the Arx.

As Juno Lucina she was seen as the goddess of childbirth. The title Lucina links Juno to the moon, which was used to track female fertility and pregnancies.

As Juno Iugalis she was a goddess of marriage and wedding rituals.

As Juno Sospita, she was the protector of warriors, goddess of protection and salvation, especially during times of war.

She was celebrated on Matronalia on March 1st, and the Nonae Caprotinae on July 7th.

She's often depicted alongside peacocks like Hera, but it is also said that geese are sacred to her. According to legend Junos sacred geese once saved Rome from being invaded by the Gauls.

Hey! I love your blogs and I am also interested in astrology as a sacred spiritual art.

I was wondering how common it is to have a concentration of placements in Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius. My placements in these constellations include Sun, Ascendant, Neptune (Capricorn) Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus (Aquarius) Mercury & Pluto (Sagittarius). How might this affect my soul path in this incarnation, as these signs are often said to be opposing each other in some ways

Add to that, the only two placements I have that are not within those constellations are Aries Saturn and Libra Moon, which I feel are also opposites and can clash since Aries is about asserting dominance within power structures and Libra yearns for balanced diplomacy. I have definitely felt their effects and struggle to balance their energies (I have a Natal Moon opposition Saturn).

What are some of the challenges associated with having these placements? I personally perceive my placements as a net positive as I have so many variants of energy within me and I can perceive the layers of reality from a detached observer perspective, often exploring different points of view constantly.

Do you often come across people with placements like mine?

There are a lot of charts which have most placements in three signs. My own chart is heavily loaded into Virgo, with some Libra and the Pisces / Aries cusp. There are loads of complexities in Astrology and I’m enjoying the discoveries. Thanks for writing and allowing me the opportunity to possibly help and to practice my student skills.

First, for some clarity, I do Tropical Astrology. Vedic Astrology uses constellations, and so that may or may not be what you’re referring to? Regardless, many of the principals remain the same.

The signs you mentioned, and their signs which are always opposite in everyones chart, are briefly characterized in the screenshots from my Facebook page below.

This reading will be basic, as there is no data on aspects or houses involved, aside from how those might all be stelliums (in other words, groupings of 3 or more conjunctions only a few degrees apart). It may be info. that you already know.

Also, as with all information of Astrology, it can be either energy which is directed by you, or towards you by others. Everyone has a mix of these two functions through their charts.

For soul path, it’s a good idea to know your Moons Nodes. The South Node will show info. about past difficulties of other lifetimes, while the North Node (sometimes a different calculation is used and that one is called True Node), gives details of where we’re karmically headed in this life. The Nodes help us resolve past life karma and relearn skills and talents from those other times. Also, the placement of White Moon Selena can give more direction of souls path, through highly spiritual and protective guidance, as it is isolated from difficult factors in the chart, at least almost entirely.

A lot of the difficulties here are only present if they are in hard aspect with ones other placements or within the charts of other people. Those difficult aspects will be squares, inconjuncts (also called quincunxes) and oppositions. Squares are more likely, from what little I know of your chart, and those can be the most difficult and yet when resolved, the most rewarding. It’s also possible you have trines, which are the most harmonious, so it could be a good balance.

Another tip before I get into it: It’s always a great idea to look up the planetary cycles by ones age, because then you will find more specific information on different stages of your life. Saturn & Uranus’ cycles are particularly important for that. As an Aries Saturn you could benefit from following the patterns of Aries ruling planet, Mars, as well.

Your traditional overall chart ruling planet is Saturn, which has natural affinity with Capricorn; meaning that it rules Capricorn in everyones chart because it is very similar to Capricorn. The Pullen method of chart rulership, which can be found free on astro.com, is of equal importance if you’re curious to pop in your birth data to get that. Your White Moon Selena can also be found at that site.

The Capricorn placements: Driven to persevere in achievement of all ambitions. Difficult areas involve pessimistic tunnel vision, themes involving responsibility, discipline and “strict fatherly or masculine authority figure energy”. Can feel quite restricted by regimented , and stuck in a “held back by authority figures” way, or can be that type of way towards others. The self identity is deeply interwoven with interactions within oneself and with others, in what can seem to be a confusing and contradictory fashion. Do people really need nurturing or are they begging for coddling? Are people (sometimes am I?) just being passive-aggressive to avoid personal responsibility? Questions which a less evolved or younger Capricorn with these placements might ask. Dharma is a common factor. It’s difficult to pinpoint where to focus, to really know with the mind, while also accurately intuiting situations, so that truth is separated from falsehood. An older and more experienced Capricorn who puts in the effort though, can become a pro at a balanced and grounded, responsible practice of developing the psyche and intuitive abilities.

The Aquarius placements: The non-conformist of the zodiac, here Aquarian energy is highly driven to confront social and political structures and find creative and innovative ways to remove and rebuild them. Can often shock others and even oneself, with sudden and seemingly strange theories and unusual behaviours. “The odd one out”, this Aquarian can often feel as if other people are far more fickle or self-indulgent about anything and everything than they are - and often, they’re right. Other times, these traits are present within. Grandiose statements, overspending and overindulgence's in luxuries, food, etc., can be common themes. (If the Capricorn placements have a lot of trine and / or sextile aspects, the last sentence is not an issue). Uranus is the planetary ruler for everyones Aquarius, and so the Aquarius traits are pronounced here. To others, at least early in life, such an individual will be accused of being immature, irresponsible, arrogant and insensitive. Sometimes these accusations are true. Usually, this Aquarius energy is far more pronounced than the Capricorn / Saturn energy. You described this when you mentioned all of your variant layers of energy; Uranus rules electricity. A highly Uranian individual like you is certainly well known for a unique and yet detached perspective. Aquarius is known as the water bearer. This means that in the hands of an Aquarian, all of the secrets of the cosmos are waiting to be discovered, without the more psychological and interpersonal functions which the other signs are more specifically meant for. The Aquarian doesn’t pour the held water over ones own head. The arm is held out, and the individual stands back, to observe and attain lightning-speed, intellectually-sharp data sets for the mass awakening of human consciousness. The heightened electricity in the physical body of this air sign causes one to not become as distracted by impulses for sex, food and other worldly distractions, as, for three other examples, the fire signs.

The Sagittarius Placements: Transformative thoughts and experiences through communicating with others abound in this fire sign. When this energy is lit up over and over throughout a life by the same or similar aspects the planets keep forming, the difficulties are in periods of black and white thought and mind trickery (again, of the self, directed towards others, or directed by others towards the self). Themes include fear vs. Fearlessness, crime, sex, mysticism. The expression can tend to run towards impulsive overreaction which leads to unfinished business, or simple laid back joy, as the Sagittarian wants to move on to something more low-key and entertaining.

Aries and Libra are always across from each other in everyones chart, and yet depending on how perfectly aligned their placements are across the wheel, those planets may or may not be forming an opposition aspect. Here, we see that issues of highly changeable and often passive aggressive intellectualism can clash with the desire to let emotions run wild and fight impulsively for a cause. Diplomacy, judgement, and justice are common themes. Friction is inevitable, yet it is designed for one to seek integration. If the other placements in the chart lack aspects between the planets, here could be a somewhat rare chart where the semi-sextile aspect can gain strength. This means that bits of extra ease are added into life here and there with little effort, through responsible conservation of internal stability.
