Whump: The Musical Prompts!!

As stated before, this challenge will run from March 1- March 31, 2024. All fandoms are welcome to participate despite it being prompts based off of musicals. Once again, all types of media are allowed. This challenge has the standard "choose one for the day" style, but feel free to do all three prompts if that's what you want to do!! hey theater friends, I need you to pay attention to this. a friend of a friend of mine, Ahmed Tobasi from the Freedom Theatre, a community-based theatre and cultural centre in Jenin Refugee Camp in occupied Palestine was arrested by the IDF on December 13th, along with his brother and several other theater members. Tobasi was released today, but other members are still being held by the IDF. The theater is asking the international theater community to speak up about this, and let Israel know that our eyes are on this. They say, "we continue to ask people to demand the immediate release of Mustafa Sheta and Jamal Abu Joas, as with the over 100+ people taken by the Israeli Army in the last two days."

For decades, Palestinian artists have been arbitrarily detained by Israel, sometimes for years, who also target and destroy cultural buildings, a war crime under international law. In the last few weeks in Gaza, an unprecedented number of writers, poets, theatremakers and journalists have been killed, including DR. Refaat Alareer, who was deliberately targeted and murdered.

One of the (many) reasons I deeply dislike the "Annie and Finnick's wedding was only a propaganda move that meant absolutely nothing to anyone" take is that is... simply not accurate?

It is often claimed Plutarch had Finnick and Annie intentionally wear Peeta and Katniss' outfits to send some type of message, but that means to completely ignore how it was Katniss herself that offered to give Annie a dress for her wedding:

“when Plutarch has a fit over what the bride will wear — I volunteer to take Annie back to my house in 12, where Cinna left a variety of evening clothes in a big storage closet downstairs.”

How Peeta himself also made their wedding cake:

“As surely as the embroidery stitches in Annie’s gown were done by Cinna’s hand, the frosted flowers on the cake were done by Peeta’s.”

And to also disregard how everyone else felt and how happy and excited they were to be part of it:

“When it’s announced that children are wanted to sing District 4’s wedding song, practically every kid shows up. There’s no shortage of volunteers to help make decorations. In the dining hall, people chat excitedly about the event.”

All in all, it means to brush aside how everyone perceived their wedding as simply something good, genuinely so, and nothing linked to a false spectacle:

“Maybe it’s more than the festivities. Maybe it’s that we are all so starved for something good to happen that we want to be part of it.”

Musical & Theatre Reverse Bang Signups Officially Open!

It was a close call on our interest check, but after counting up all the votes, the Good Omens Musical & Theatre Bang will be running a reverse bang. In other words, authors will write based on their artist's art. We'll be looking for at least one completed piece from artists, and for a word count of at least 3k from authors.

Welcome to Whump: the Musical!!

What tf is that, I hear you ask? I'll be glad to tell you, since I've been working on this behind the scenes of my other projects for quite some time!

Whump: the Musical is a 31 day whump event where the prompts are all based on themes and lyrics from a variety of different musicals! Spanning from Wicked to Cats to Hamilton, there's something for everyone!

Although this event is brought to you by a self-proclaimed theater nerd, this event is open to all fandoms. You do not have to have a lick of prior musical theatre knowledge to participate. The theater community is welcoming and embracing, and we would love for you to use our niches as inspiration to whump your blorbos! This is also an all media inclusive event! If you would like to write a fic, provide lovely art, or make an edit, God knows, anything goes.

This event will span from March 1st to March 31st because as far as I could find, there wasn't a whump event happening then!! Plus, it's just in time for all of y'all's spring musicals!! The prompt list will be released much earlier (like in the next few days lol) because I know I personally take forever to prep, and I want everyone to have more than enough time to plan out whatever they want to do.

A character having to pee at a big event >>>

•a character is squirming on bleachers and desperate and on the verge of exploding. They lean over the edge of the gaps in the bleachers and let go because they just can’t take it anymore

•the big rush after a play/live event where during the break a character dashes to the toilet. Absolutely needy for a pee while having to wait in the break line and just making it so obvious they’re about to burst

•Someone at an event with no toilets getting so desperate they have to buy a drink at concessions just so they can pour it out and pee in it…

•having to pee in a play as the actor and getting more and more desperate, until they have to hold themselves every couple seconds and are leaking on the stage and eventually they just take a quick dash off the stage and start peeing the moment they’re behind the curtain…

BONUS: if they leave their stage mic on and everyone can hear hissing/moans or relief

Darren Criss To Headline Long Wharf Theatre's Annual Benefit Concert This May

Long Wharf Theatre has announced that award-winning stage, music, and television star Darren Criss will headline their annual benefit in A Concert for Long Wharf Theatre. The event will take place on May 13, 2024 at Southern Connecticut State University's John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts for the second year in a row. 

“This past season at Long Wharf Theatre has been awe-inspiring to witness and I could not be more thrilled to join the celebration in May,” said Darren Criss. “Long Wharf embodies artistic bravery at its finest and most exhilarating; its new model should serve as an example for the entire industry as we look to innovate and imagine new possibilities for presenting and performing work. Darren Criss: A CONCERT FOR LONG WHARF THEATRE will begin with a cocktail hour and speeches from institutional leadership. This will be followed by a paddle raise to support Long Wharf Theatre's vision to bring theatre, without barriers, to spaces and stages across the region. The festivities will include hors d'oeuvres, dinner and drinks, and an after party.
