Mutants in the Now - Book
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The TNMT comic writer and artist worked o this role playing game. The TMNT franchise is one of my favourites, I love the character designs in the movies and I have played some of the video games. I love the artwork, the detail in each character is awesome. Though most of the designs are in black and white, I love the use of dark and light in the creations to give the detail. Working in black and white means you can focus on the image as a whole. The contrast is striking in theses images.
Black used in imagery evokes power, evil magic and darkness which symbolizes these mutant creatures.

usually i dont like 'fixing art' but honestly i have to make an exception for you bc alot of this shit is just that (as a hijabi seeing that sexualization burqa killed the rest of my cognitive abilities)
like yeah, this is weirdly something ive been thinking about for the last few days. so you're going to have to put up with me rambling for a bit
for some context that most of you probably just dont have bc the last time i talke about it would probably be from over a year ago at this point, when i named this blog it was obviously based on Bad-comic-art's blog. and when i chose the url for this one i didn't think about how it would read to others. because like, the word "fix" never meant "make better" to me? it just meant "change". i think this is bc i grew up around a lot of people who spoke English as their second/third/fourth language, who were all trying very hard to make sure english was my first. so a lot of words that had wierd or imprecise translations got jumbled up in that mess, and fix was just one of them. that combined with my aphasia just made for the perfect time bomb of a url.
At first i just picked at which ever ones felt especially awkward to me, and then i started noticing trends that got me grinding my teeth. especially after a lot of people came forward to talk about how they felt better about themselves after the impossibility of the og arts proportions was pointed out. Because like, a lot of western comic art is meant to look fairly realistic, stylized, but still realistic, and that means that its a lot easier for our brains to internalize the proportions and ideals of theses styles as like, correct? as something that its worth comparing real skin and bone too without really realizing your doing it.
beyond that, ive always tried to focus more on things that were sexist. pieces where making sure a ladys tits and ass were center stage was more important than not snapping her back to do so. on sorta shining a light on how Weird a lot of these male comic artists were depicting women because them being sexy was more important than telling a story where they were characters.
and later once i had more context for some of the characters, and with a lot of help from my followers, i started being able to spot which ones were being whitewashed, and did a few of those edits too.
the dust one was very obviously an Issue that i didn't need explained but that one is still like, if i had to pick one piece to define what id want this blog to be, it would be that one. because it perfectly encompasses all my issues with a lot of comic art. Her being sexy was more important to that artist than her being a character with a specific religious background that wore a specific for of modesty garb bc thats what she wanted to wear.
and like mild tangent- this is why i try so hard to match the original as closely as possible. these styles arnt Bad usually. a lot of times they're just rushed, and doing edits to show what the artist could have done if they'd had the tims to do it always just felt like giving the original a second chance to shine? but some of the ways women and minorities especially are depicted, is just gross, and shows a clear sorta mindset. I want to match the originals in these cases to prove that the og artist, within their own style, could have depicted these characters with respect, but just chose not to.
beyond the edits i do that fall in the former categories, sometimes i just want to make people laugh so i do goofy things to art they dont like very much. thats always felt like sharpying a mustache on one historical figure or a other in a friends text book. just something harmless and fun to share in the back of the class room.
like i guess my tldr on this is this: bigotry is bad and i just want to make people happy by posting little edits on the internet.

Superman’s 10 Best of the ‘10s
Tumblr media
Good Miracle Monday, folks! The first third Monday of May of a new decade for that matter, and while that means that today in the DC Universe Superman just revealed his secret identity to the world on the latest anniversary of that time he defeated the devil, in ours it puts a capstone on a solid 10 years of his adventures now in the rear view mirror, ripe for reevaluation. And given there’s a nice solid ‘10′ right there I’ll go ahead with the obvious and list my own top ten for Superman comics of the past decade, with links in the titles to those I’ve spoken on in depth before - maybe you’ll find something you overlooked, or at least be reminded of good times.
A plethora of honorable mentions: I’m disqualifying team-ups or analogue character stories, but no list of the great Superman material of the last decade would be complete without bringing up Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye #7, Avengers 34.1, Irredeemable, Sideways Annual #1, Supreme: Blue Rose, Justice League: Sixth Dimension, usage of him in Wonder Twins, (somewhat in spite of itself) Superior, from all I’ve heard New Super-Man, DCeased #5, and Batman: Super Friends. And while they couldn’t quite squeeze in, all due praise to the largely entertaining Superman: Unchained, the decades’ great Luthor epic in Superman: The Black Ring, a brilliant accompaniment to Scott Snyder’s work with Lex in Lex Luthor: Year of the Villain, the bonkers joy of the Superman/Luthor feature in Walmart’s Crisis On Infinite Earths tie-in comics, Geoff Johns and John Romita’s last-minute win in their Superman run with their final story 24 Hours, Tom Taylor’s quiet criticism of the very premise he was working with on Injustice and bitter reflection on the changing tides for the character in The Man of Yesterday, the decades’ most consistent Superman ongoing in Bryan Miller and company’s Smallville Season 11, and Superman: American Alien, which probably would have made the top ten but has been dropped like a hot potato by one and all for Reasons. In addition are several stories from Adventures of Superman, a book with enough winners to merit a class of its own: Rob Williams and Chris Weston’s thoughtful Savior, Kyle Killen and Pia Guerra’s haunting The Way These Things Begin, Marc Guggenheim and Joe Bennett’s heart-wrenching Tears For Krypton, Christos Gage and Eduardo Francisco’s melancholy Flowers For Bizarro, Josh Elder and Victor Ibanez’s deeply sappy but deeply effective Dear Superman, Ron Marz and Doc Shaner’s crowdpleasing Only Child, and Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine DeLandro’s super-sweet Mystery Box.
10. Greg Pak/Aaron Kuder’s Action Comics
Tumblr media
Oh, what might’ve been. In spite of an all-timer creative team I can’t justify listing this run any higher given how profoundly and comprehensively compromised it is, from the status quo it was working with to the litany of ill-conceived crossovers to regular filler artists to its ignominious non-ending. But with the most visceral, dynamic, and truly humane take on Clark Kent perhaps of all time that still lives up to all Superman entails, and an indisputably iconic instant-classic moment to its name, I can’t justify excluding it either.
9. Action Comics #1000
Tumblr media
Arguably the climax to the decade for the character as his original title became the first superhero comic to reach a 1000th issue. While any anthology of this sort is a crapshoot by nature, everyone involved here seemed to understand the enormity of the occasion and stepped up as best they could; while the lack of a Lois Lane story is indefensible, some are inevitably bland, and one or two are more than a bit bizarre, by and large this was a thoroughly charming tribute to the character and his history with a handful of legitimate all-timer short stories.
8. Faster Than A Bullet
Tumblr media
Much as Adventures of Superman was rightfully considered an oasis amidst the New 52′s worst excesses post-Morrison and in part pre-Pak, few stories from it seem well-remembered now, and even at the time this third issue inexplicably seemed to draw little attention. Regardless, Matt Kindt and Stephen Segovia’s depiction of an hour in the life of Superman as he saves four planets first thing in the morning without anyone noticing - while clumsy in its efforts at paralleling the main events with a literal subplot of a conversation between Lois and Lex - is one of the best takes I can recall on the scope on which he operates, and ultimately the purpose of Clark Kent.
7. Man and Superman
Tumblr media
Seemingly geared on every front against me, built as it was on several ideas of how to handle Superman’s origin I legitimately hate, and by a writer whose work over the years has rarely been to my liking, Marv Wolfman and Claudio Castellini’s Man and Superman somehow came out of nowhere to be one of my favorite takes on Clark Kent’s early days. With a Metropolis and characters within it that feel not only alive but lived-in, it’s shocking that a story written and drawn over ten years before it was actually published prefigured so many future approaches to its subject, and felt so of-the-moment in its depiction of a 20-something scrambling to figure out how to squeeze into his niche in the world when it actually reached stores.
6. Brian Bendis’s run
Tumblr media
Controversial in the extreme, and indeed heir to several of Brian Bendis’s longstanding weaknesses as a writer, his work on The Man of Steel, Superman, and Action Comics has nevertheless been defined at least as much by its ambition and intuitive grasp of its lead, as well as fistfuls of some of the best artistic accompaniment in the industry. At turns bombastic space action, disaster flick, spy-fi, oddball crime serial, and family drama, its assorted diversions and legitimate attempts at shaking up the formula - or driving it into new territory altogether, as in the latest, apparently more longterm-minded unmasking of Clark Kent in Truth - have remained anchored and made palatable by an understanding of Superman’s voice, insecurities, and convictions that go virtually unmatched.
5. Strange Visitor
Tumblr media
The boldest, most out-of-left-field Superman comic of the past 10 years, Joe Keatinge took the logline of Adventures of Superman to do whatever creators wanted with the character and, rather than getting back to a classic take absent from the mainline titles at the time as most others did, used the opportunity for a wildly expansive exploration of the hero from his second year in action to his far-distant final adventure. Alongside a murderer’s row of artists, Keatinge pulled off one of the few comics purely about how great Superman is that rather than falling prey to hollow self-indulgence actually managed to capture the wonder of its subject.
4. Superman: Up In The Sky
Tumblr media
And here’s the other big “Superman’s just the best” comic the decade had to offer that actually pulled it off. Sadly if reasonably best-known for its one true misfire of a chapter, with the increasing antipathy towards Tom King among fans in general likely not helping, what ended up overlooked is that this is a stone-cold classic on moment of arrival. Andy Kubert turns in work that stands alongside the best of his career, Tom King’s style is honed to its cleanest edge by the 12-pager format and subject matter, and the quest they set their lead out on ends up a perfect vehicle to explore Superman’s drive to save others from a multitude of angles. I don’t know what its reputation will end up being in the long-term - I was struck how prosaic and subdued the back cover description was when I got this in hardcover, without any of the fanfare or critic quotes you’d expect from the writer of Mister Miracle and Vision tackling Superman - but while its one big problem prevents me from ranking it higher, this is going to remain an all-timer for me.
3. Jeff Loveness’s stories Help and Glasses
Tumblr media
Cheating shamelessly here, but Jeff Loveness’s Help with David Williams and Glasses with Tom Grummett are absolutely two halves of the same coin, a pair of theses on Superman’s enduring relevance as a figure of hope and the core of Lois and Clark’s relationship that end up covering both sides of Superman the icon and Superman the guy. While basically illustrated essays, any sense of detached lecturing is utterly forbidden by the raw emotion on display here that instantly made them some of the most acclaimed Superman stories of the last several years; they’re basically guaranteed to remain in ‘best-of’ collections from now until the end of time.
2. Superman Smashes The Klan
Tumblr media
A bitter race for the top spot, but #2 is no shame here; while not quite my favorite Superman story of the past ten years, it’s probably the most perfectly executed. While I don’t think anyone could have quite expected just *how* relevant this would be at the top of the decade, Gene Yang and Gurihiru put together an adventure in the best tradition of the Fleischer shorts and the occasional bystander-centered episodes of Batman: The Animated Series to explore racism’s both overt and subtle infections of society’s norms and institutions, the immigrant experience, and both of its leads’ senses of alienation and justice. Exciting, stirring, and insightful, it’s debuted to largely universal acknowledgement as being the best Superman story in years, and hopefully it’ll be continued to be marketed as such long-term.
1. Grant Morrison’s Action Comics
Tumblr media
When it came time to make the hard choice, it came in no small part down to that I don’t think we would have ever seen a major Golden Age Superman revival project like Smashes The Klan in the first place if not for this. Even hampering by that godawful Jim Lee armor, inconsistent (if still generally very good) art, and a fandom that largely misunderstood it on arrival can’t detract from that this is Grant Morrison’s run on a Superman ongoing, a journey through Superman’s development as a character reframed as a coherent arc that takes him from Metropolis’s most beaten-down neighborhoods to the edge of the fifth dimension and the monstrous outermost limits of ‘Superman’ as a concept. It launched discussions of Superman as a corporate icon and his place relative to authority structures that have never entirely vanished, introduced multiple all-time great new villains, and made ‘t-shirt Superman’ a distinct era and mode of operation for the character that I’m skeptical will ever entirely go away. No other work on the character this decade had the bombast, scope, complexity, or ambition of this run, with few able to match its charm or heart. And once again, it was, cannot stress this enough, Grant Morrison on an ongoing Superman book.

Ten things you most likely don’t know about comic book characters.
Sinestro became a monster as soon as he got the Green Lantern ring.
Tumblr media
Hell, he wasn’t even selected by the ring, it was given to him. Shows us that he was probably never meant to be a GL.
Before he became a GL, Sinestro was an anthropologist who found a wounded and dying Green Lantern named Prohl Gosgotha who gave Sinestro his ring so he could defend himself against the one who was trying to kill Gosgotha. Afterwards, Gosgotha asked for his ring back to keep him alive long enough to get help. But Sinestro knew that it would mean that he would not become a Green Lantern himself, so he watched as Gosgotha died so could keep the ring.
Power corrupts.
Deadshot started out as a fraud hero.
Tumblr media
Believe it or not but the most well-known member of the Suicide Squad’s first costume was a tuxedo and a tophat as he made his debut as Gotham’s new crimefighter, only so he could take over the city’s racket in secret. He was exposed by Batman and swore revenge, becoming the famous hit-man we know today.
Chameleon is in love with Peter Parker.
Tumblr media
Chameleon once found out who Spidy really was and took on the appearance of Peter Parker as a way of ruining his enemy's life. But after walking in Pete's shoes, experiencing his life, Chameleon grew more and more obsessed, NOT with Spider-Man, but the man under the mask.
In the end, Chameleon realized that he was madly in love with Peter.
Joker sold his soul to Neron.
Tumblr media
In case you do not know, Neron is to DC what Mephisto is to Marvel. He makes deals in exchange for souls, usually villains who gets a powerboost or something else they need.
Joker sold his soul to Neron in exchange for a box of Cuban cigars.
SURE! WHY NOT?!
Doctor Sivana could break out of jail thanks to math.
Tumblr media
And I don't mean it as in he could calculate the best way to somehow escape, I mean that he knows a mathematical formula which, when recited, allowed him to walk through walls and solid objects, making himself almost impossible to imprison or even catch. Long-term use of this technique takes a life-endangering physical toll on the user.
Luke Cage’s first costume belonged to an escape artist.
Tumblr media
When Luke decided to become a hero for hire, he needed a costume and bought a used costume he could afford. The one he found was one that had belonged to an escape artist with an unsuccessful career. Luke liked the idea of the costume, especially the broken chain, so he bought it. It also inspired him to change his name from Carl Lucas to Luke Cage.
Peter and Gwen were married in Mexican comics.
Tumblr media
Mexican publisher La Prensa didn’t believe their readers would stick with the book if Gwen died. The result? 45 issues of Silver Age Spidey with Gwen Stacy playing a prominent role and even marrying Peter Parker.
Theses alternate history comics took place after Spider-Man #119. So, Gwen never died in Mexico and a big part of Spidey’s legacy never happened. After the 44 story run, La Prensa lost the license and Marvel went with another publisher who solely reprinted translated versions of Marvel’s own Spidey books.
Starfire has a better credit score than Dick Grayson.
Tumblr media
That's right, Dick used to be kinda helpless when it came to money since stuff like electricity bills and rents was something Alfred took care of, and then Kory after they moved in together.
So the alien princess from another planet is better at Earth finances than Nightwing :P
Guy Gardner has a bachelor's degree in education and psychology from the University of Michigan.
Tumblr media
Guy is honestly not as dumb as most would assume, he just has a temper that more than often gets the better of him. He used to love working with kids, just doesn't have the time for his passion for teaching children.
Supergirl is a Mary Marvel ripoff.
Tumblr media
Believe it or not, but Mary was actually one of the first female counterparts to a male superhero. She entered comics seventeen years before Supergirl did. Also, Supergirl was created by Otto Binder who made Mary as well.
Coincidence? I think not.

Eclipso #7
Tumblr media
Eclip clippity clip clippity clip clip clipso. Black Diamond dust will rub off when I eat your soul.
As soon as I saw this cover, I realized DC had made a huge mistake. If Ted McKeever had been doing the art since the first issue, this series would have been a huge hit! I mean a huge hit to me. I think less comic book lovers at the time would have expressed a fondness for Ted McKeever's art. They were all jerking themselves off over the wild young artists at Image Comics, many who maybe never took an art class where they had to draw a nude model but also seemed to realize that what comic book fans had been waiting for were faces drawn with lots and lots of lines added in. For years, I thought all the characters in WildC.A.T.S. were either really, really old or really, really dirty.
Tumblr media
I grabbed this image off the Internet as an example of that guy's face but I can't stop staring at Titties McSuper Crotch on his right.
A few comic book fans who are real fans (and I won't be replying to comments that suggest I'm gatekeeping because we all know who the real fans of comic books are, don't we, my virginal nerds in dark basements without any friends or family whose most proud possession is an Alpha Time Vault and whose biggest accomplishment is leveling up their magic user enough to cast Level 9 spells) have instantly become disgusted with my suggestion that Ted McKeever's art is somehow superior to Rob Liefeld or early Jim Lee's work. And I'm sure they'll be writing angry and scathing comments after they get done jerking off to Titties McSuper Crotch. For those who aren't real comic book fans and only believe they're comic book fans so they can fervently scream at anybody on the Internet who might suggest otherwise simply because they don't actually read comic books but you haven't heard how many times they've watched Blade: Trinity, let me scan an example of a Ted McKeever face (minus his version of Titties McSuper Crotch. If you need his version of that, just take a look at my Extremist reviews):
Tumblr media
You don't think I know that my theses that McKeever's art is better than early Image art is now on shaky ground?!
I suppose my only defense would be a passionate plea to the jury to keep in mind artistic style and an artist's unique vision while also considering that art isn't necessarily better just because you want to fuck it. I suppose I have to give the crew at Image kudos for producing raw and imperfect images that managed to provoke some kind of reaction in the brain that was akin to blood coursing to one's genitals. Even when I criticize Liefeld or Lee or McFarland, I realize that their art contained a kind of wild exuberance that a lot of younger fans at the time had never seen. A lot of comic art had fallen into a stale and mediocre sameness that made one think comic book arts had become bored and jaded. The guys who would eventually found Image Comics seemed excited to be doing their dream job and that excitement jumped from the page and enthused a whole generation of comic book readers. The reason I didn't give a shit about it was that my aesthetic preferences lay in a different direction. I wasn't upset that more traditional art was being supplanted since I found a lot of it stodgy and devoid of life. I just wasn't into more grit, more muscles, and more "realism" (in quotes because I'm not going all-in with my intellectual bankroll on suggesting that the Image guys could draw realistically); I was into a bit more cartoony style, maybe a little closer to animation, with thicker lines and more expressive faces (more expressive in other ways than just gritting teeth), with Chris Bachalo and Kevin Maguire two of my favorites. And even though this will completely destroy my defense of Ted McKeever's art but I can't help but be as transparent as possible (unless it comes to saying when I lost my virginity because nobody wants to hear stories about somebody losing it that young!), I wasn't always thrilled with McKeever's art back in the 90s. I think it's like drinking coffee black. When you're young, you just don't appreciate bitterness like you do when you're older and worn out and life's zest lies crumpled on the floor covered in drying jizz. You just can't appreciate some things until life has taken you by the back of the head and screamed, "Oh? You love wonder? You love the excitement of experiencing new things and discovering more of the human mystery of existence? Well have as much as you like!" and then it smashes your face into the puddle of wonder you've made on the floor and rubs until you're choking on it. You're never quite the same after that. It's as if cute and amazing and wonderful don't quite flip the switch in your brain anymore so you need bitterness and pain and the kind of sex where you're not entirely sure you're going to live to see orgasm. The sad part about the loss of innocence and the death of wonder is how fast it happens in the Internet age. I guarantee there are teenagers who probably have an outlook as bleak as the one it took me forty-five years to develop. Here's to you, my young brothers and sisters drowning in existence!
Tumblr media
There wasn't a full moon on February 12th, 1891.
I looked up the full moon fact. I just didn't happen to know it as I was reading this comic book. I didn't spit out my bitter coffee and exclaim "Insolence!" after I read it. The phase of the moon was closer to what is seen on the cover than what is seen on this page. Also, why is the full moon so prominent in all of these issues of Eclipso? I would think the new moon would be more important since that's when an actual eclipse can occur. Or is Eclipso more powerful during a lunar eclipse because that's when things get super dark? Although isn't a lunar eclipse less dark than a night just before the new moon because the moon is hanging out with the sun and there's nothing but stars in the sky for light? Maybe I just don't understand Eclipso and his stupid moon powers. Maybe the writers don't either since they're the assholes who decided Eclipso's palace, where he'd be safe from the sun, should be located on the dark side of the moon which is anything but safe from sunlight. I hate Eclipso. I'm glad this is the last issue of the series I purchased!
Tumblr media
Oh yeah! This is how Eclipso works. The moon is just set dressing!
This is why I was happy to see McKeever doing an issue of Eclipso. His art works quite nicely for a horror comic. Also, that earlier scan of his goofy looking people? I shouldn't have been too harsh on it because that's exactly what British people look like. This is Eclipso's first time back in the world of men since the gigantic Black Diamond he was encased in was taken back to London and cut into thousands of smaller diamonds. He is only now discovering the extent and limits of his returned powers. Eclipso goes on a rampage as the judge, discovering that he must first fulfill the vengeful wishes of the person he's possessed before he can move on to his own plots. He also discovers that the sun evicts him from the body and he is returned to the dark side of the moon. He also learns that if he hides from the sun, he can remain in possession of the body. He learns this because he's also possessed Irene Adler. She's a fictional character form the Sherlock Holmes stories but since she's also a character in this Eclipso comic book, she's still fictional. I think it's okay to pretend she's real in a fictional story. I'm certainly not complaining or else I wouldn't constantly rave about Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Eclipso #7 Rating: B. Ted McKeever's art does most of the work since this issue is basically just a primer for readers unfamiliar with Eclipso's powers and limitations. The moon doesn't come into play at all so I don't know why every issue insists on a full one. Maybe it's because the same writers that think the dark side of the moon is actually dark also think that the only way an eclipse can happen is during a full moon. Because how can a crescent moon block out the entire sun, right?! Ridiculous!

32 years old and wanting to fuck a horse from a children’s show. Do you realize how sad you are or are you somehow unaware of it? You should change.
hmmm, honestly Anon (hornetstabber) I do think about this quite often in fact.
It’s not “Normal” at all to even have an interest in a cartoon character let alone a cartoon pony. So I can understand your disgust at someone who enjoys that type of content, really I do and there’re times when I truly wish I didn’t think or feel that way and that I could be “normal” like all the other casuals out there.
You know just how I’m sure gay, tran’s, poc’s sometimes feel and wish they were “normal” too so they didn’t have to worry about getting killed by some random fucknut like you!
But this is also very funny when you consider that I made this name as a joke just because I knew it would make people mad and upset! And when I first watched the show I had no interest in the character in that way at all, even tho I way always attracted to female anthro characters. It wasn’t until very later that I even felt that way towards the mlp ponies.
But in that same vein do you also feel the same way about people that want to fuck famous actors from the shows that they love, or characters from the comics, books, anime, tv shows, etc. that they enjoy because that’s pretty fucking gross and creepy too ya know and yet that is wildly accepted and encourage by the masses?
Artist’s drawing irl people without their consent getting raped killed etc. etc. and the like yet you feel that a random dude liking a CARTOON from a children’s show is cause enough to send me this?
Where were you when Arby’s told the public that they wanted NSFW art of their mascot (who is drawn and show underage) so that spawned TONS of artist’s to draw a little girl a child in a sexual way, and yet you take the time to come to my blog and try and call me out and call me a retard????
But taking a look at your blog it’s kinda funny that you are calling me out when you’re a piece of shit and such! LMAO!!
I’m 100% sure you are a bigot and/or a racist piece of shit, so I’m not willing to waste time on what you think or say to me.
Why don’t you use that free time that you clearly have in spades to go fight and argue and get pissed at Nazi’s or rapist’s but ooh wait you prob are one....lol
So I think you should take your own advice and have a few of theses and kindly fuck off!

Into the Spider Verse!!!
Aside from Black Panther, which seems like a millennia ago somehow. How did that come out this year?! This was hands down my favorite comic book movie of the year. I know. This year has been....for fucking ever.  Black Panther, Avengers Infinity Wars, Incredibles 2. There was a lot. A lot, a lot.
It’s my favorite spider man movie, my favorite animated movie of the year. Just...far and away the best in no small part because they took a lot of risks.
So Some Thoughts...Part 1: The Animation.
Let’s face it, Since Toy Story came out, CGI has looked pretty much the same. Which makes sense in a lot of ways. When movies first began coming together, they all looked the same. People fought sound and color pictures for years when those advances were first introduced. Pixar paved the way. They were the first and they have done so much in the last...almost 30 years now? But what has always made me more partial to hand drawn animation was seemingly that there was so much more potential for insanely different styles. From Snow White to Sleeping Beauty, from Cowboy Bebop to Miyazaki. The styles were so different, so controlled and so focused on a singular vision. CGI...not so much. If it wasn’t the Pixar style...it was the Brad Bird Pixar Style aka the 1950′s style. You saw it in *shivers* the Minions...*shivers even more* franchise and...aside from that there really wasn’t a lot of deviation. But Spiderverse has taken it in a completely new direction that feels long overdue and will likely still somehow go under appreciated. It felt modern in the way that Steven Universe feels modern. The colors, the textures, the speed. The character design.
I’ve seen it twice now (cause that’s me) and the second time I noticed so much more. It obvious what the pitch was: a comic book in movie form. But they take that idea and they try everything. Every time a light shines you can see those infamous little pop-art comic book dots. Facial expressions take on cartoony waves (much like anime, it was definitely an inspiration). The way they interpreted the “spidey-sense” in not one way but multiple, interesting ways. Aside from Fisk (whose design was, let’s face it, a little (a lot) too big, the character designs were all controlled, still within keeping to their respective ‘universe’ but also cohesive. (I lie...I wish they had employed some actually manga/anime artists to do the work on Peni, because she did look very much like...the bastardized American version of the anime style, but it wasn’t as distracting as the Fisk design was). The Prowler design was so good, the way he moved, the little touches to make him both cool as fuck and scary as hell were just...Batman level good. Then you have the city backgrounds...the forest. the other villains. It was all done at such a high caliber, you can really tell they thought about each of theses characters and how they could be translated into this telling and style without just looking at some page in the comic and slapping that design down.
Only at the climax for me was it a little overwhelming with the colors and the frame rate and the speed but hey, that’s fine. We need Hollywood to look at this and learn. Better to take the risk now, than playing it safe forever.
Part two...The Story & Characters.

【Research and Enquiry: Annotated Bibliography】
Birkenkrahe, M., 2014. Using storytelling methods to improve emotion, motivation and attitude of students writing scientific papers and theses. Presented at the Proceedings of 2014 IEEE 13th International Conference on Cognitive Informatics and Cognitive Computing, ICCI*CC 2014. https://doi.org/10.1109/ICCI-CC.2014.6921453 This article written by  Marcus Birkenkrahe is his debate on how storytelling tecnniques can also be used in other areas like in thesis for students who are in Bachelors degree or in Master. Storytelling can be adapted to new uses instead of just telling stories to people. Marcus explain that the concept and the logic behind Storytelling methods can cover more areas of academic studies. Student can use methods that were create for storytelling on their personal thesis essays. While doing so they learn to organize their ideas better in their work. Storytelling structure follows a logic path that allows people to understand what’s happening and foresee where it will lead them using hints, just like what is used to tell a story. These types of methods can be used for thesis. - Phan, H.Q., Fu, H., Chan, A.B., 2018. Color Orchestra: Ordering Color Palettes for Interpolation and Prediction. IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics 24, 1942–1955. https://doi.org/10.1109/TVCG.2017.2697948 This article explains the approach in the color extraction from an art collection to a form of aesthetic. How the theme of the colors or the color pallete can deeply influence the artwork, giving it different meanings and also change the message that the artist wants to share. Colors are one of the most appealing parts of paintings, it can tell one artist apart from the other just by the way they use color. I find this source useful, because learning how to use colors for my own artistic advance is important. Colors can tell stories and those stories can be used in animation. We realize that the use of colors can create a connection between the audience and the painting, something in the choice of colors can bring an emotion out of someone who is seeing it. Therefore knowing how to use colors is important to communicate with our art.  Smith, V., Hamlyn, N., 2018. Experimental and Expanded Animation: New Perspectives and Practices. Springer International Publishing AG, Cham, SWITZERLAND. -This ebook talks about a new way of creating art, the experimental way. It’s a less conventional form of animation and expressing our ideas. It goes against mainstream cinema and culture and explores new forms of creating art in the animation.  This can take a new form of animation into the world, the experimental. The book says that it’s interesting to experience different experinces of art from different cultures and people. I find this book useful because it’s important to extend our mind further than we think, open it and try to think of new alternatives to our creative work. This book talks about that.  Roseboro, B., n.d. The Vocaloid Phenomenon: A Glimpse into the Future of Songwriting, Community-Created Content, Art, and Humanity 86. This document explains the process of making a music video and more specifically in Vocaloid videos. A lot of thought is put into it, from the lyrics that could have metaphors for the audience and how the music has to align with the lyrics and follow the rhytme without breaking the message.  Lyrics come in a poetry composition, with verses and timings, the lyrics are considered the bones structure of the music video. Everything else like the creative art directing, or the melody would be the mind or the heart of the product. They continue to explain by detailed how the lyrics are thought out and the music behind it, how everything needs to be organized and also creative at the same time to capture the audience attention. I bellieve I can learn a lot with this thesis because it’s something I’m very interested in learning since it explain the process of music video, as well, the order of segments and what softwares are used to achieve the final product. It’s important to know all of this so that I can do it on my own. The main focus is on voicaloids but I can use what I learned from this to put on my own music videos made differently. - Cao, Y., Lau, R.W.H., Chan, A.B., 2014. Look over here: attention-directing composition of manga elements. ACM Trans. Graph. 33, 94:1–94:11. https://doi.org/10.1145/2601097.2601183 This thesis talk about how a japanese is made and what components it has. The visual elements of manga, the different mediuns and programs that people can use to make manga, the composition and the balloon placement. How manga artists have to control the viewers attention, and the direction they read the story, or where to pay longer attention to or lesser attention. They manipulate how the viewer will understand the story, the way they want the view to understand, leading them into plot twists or giving them foreshadowing of events. I believe reading this thesis will help me understand better what is necessary to apply in a manga comic, to have a well structure story, because eventhough the art might be good, without a good composition and a clear reading of the story, viewer won’t stick around to the end. So it’s important to know what key elements to do in the comic while working on it. I quite liked this thesis, it really has everyone someone needs to know about creating a comic, even the shape and size of the characters in the panels and how that influences the viewer reading experience. - Morisawa, T., 2015. Managing the unmanageable: Emotional labour and creative hierarchy in the Japanese animation industry. Ethnography 16, 262–284. https://doi.org/10.1177/1466138114547624 This  articles, explain how life in Japan is. More particulary in the job industry of animators. It explain the ranks of the industry, and how to reach for the higher rank which is being the Director. To become that, they can either start the career by being a  a production operator  or an animator, but one is horrible work, and the other requires abilities and doesn’t pay well. Young animators in Japan  struggle with excessively long hours with little compensation. This articles explains a point of view that the  companies can be compared to a vampire, because they suck the life out of the workers. The articles also explain the thought process between management and creativity in the projects.
Ristola, J., 2017. Blood, Sweat, Ink, and Tears: Exploitation of Labour in the Japanese Animation Industry. This text talks about the  labour conditions of Japanese animators in Japan. They have done research on this topic in different ways, with industry data, and many articles. Which mean they are well informed of this topic in hand. To work in the anime industry it’s important to know about the current trends and what people are more interested in, and it’s important to know the history in anime animation in the television. The first appearance was in the early 1960′s and it evolved from there. I find this article useful for me to learn more about the process of the animation industry and how the workers are treated, it’s a revelant information to have in order to know what to expect. They talk about getting an apprenticeship in Disney and how that can help your career but also know how to face the difficulties that it comes with.   - Full details and actions for Identity in animation: a journey into self, difference, culture and the body [WWW Document], n.d. URL https://www.vlebooks.com/Vleweb/Product/Index/2018732?page=0 (accessed 12.14.20). This book illustrates the importance of an animator’s work and how Animators need to approache an animation in political terms. It’s important to have knowledge of culture as well as knowing about the time and space animation happens. The book explain how animation changes their approach to politics to fit with the mindset of people at the time. They need to know what’s happening in the world and not create sensitive debates in their animations. Politics doesn’t end on just culture, it also involves how people see gender and other topics like that. I believe I can learn a lot with this book, since it explain where animation started and why certain changes were made and the thoughts behind it, it also shows how much thought is put into an animation. Not just story wise but also regardling how the world is and what are the mainstream news. It’s important to keep up with the evolution of human being and know what’s relatable to people or not. Or know how to approach topic and not be blunt, as people can take offense from it. - van Rooij, M., 2019. Carefully Constructed Yet Curiously Real: How Major American Animation Studios Generate Empathy Through a Shared Style of Character Design. Animation 14, 191–206. https://doi.org/10.1177/1746847719875071 This article start by talking about the success of Pixar animation ever since their first featured movie “Toy story”. The article further explains how pixar experimented with a new form of animation, the three dimentional, and the main difference between the two dimentional and the three, was that instead of drawing of a flat image, they must create the whole 3D 360º degree of the character so that they can then rig it and animate it.  Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is which creates the 3D characters into the programs. This article doesn’t only speak about Pixar but also Dreamworks and it compared so on more of Disney companies. This articles can help me have a better understanding of the studios of Disney and how they have evolved their movies or how the industry works. It’s important to know how the big studios work so that we know how to start small, and have knowledge how to do better, following their footsteps and what they did the best and the worse. How their decisions impacts the out come of the animation. - Salim, E., Pooja, K., 2019. Architectural character in conservation design projects [WWW Document]. SHS Web of Conferences. https://doi.org/10.1051/shsconf/20196403008 This text explain the deph into creating a character in a specific enviroment. How the character has to be build from the ground up and possess the content that it was build on. The theme has to be consistent so that the character makes sense in their enviroment, therefore , giving them more sense of space and morals leaving people believe more in that character as they approache a more sense of realism. I find this topic important as my main goal is creating stories and within them character that follow them, I need to learn more the topic of character building. It cannot be random and has to be well thought out as the character has to be build in a foundation to make sense, and keep it consistent in their develpment, changes may occur but the character still needs to come from the same root they were born in. - Skjold, E., 2018. Making sense of dress: On sensory perspectives of wardrobe research [WWW Document]. Artifact. https://doi.org/10.1386/art.5.1.4.1_1 This article explains how the dress code changed along the years, and how people see the dresses and how they are wore. The writer of the article believes that the way of designing a dress gives people different sensations towards it, and depending of the year, different details of the dresses are focused on. For example in the 80′s the dresses were more focused on the patterns and the aesthetic looks and later on 90′s it the focus swifted to the silhoutte that the dress gives the person who wears it. This could say a lot how it’s the society who changes how dresses are seen rather than the dresses themlseves. I find this article useful in many ways, one of them is that knowing the different eras of times, and how differently dresses were wore, it’s important to know the culture of different times in the human history, so that when we create a story in that timestamp we need to know this details to be accurate. It wouldn’t make sense to put a dress that people wear in 2020 in the 80′s. This article also helps me understand the pespective on clothing, and the fashion sense of different times and mentalities.

Looking for Markers? MUST READ. I'll tell you which are worth the price.
COPIC ORIGINAL MARKERS:
The classic Copic markers are also termed as Copic original markers. It is available in 214 different colors and is specially designed for artists and illustrators. It is the most expensive markers out of other Copic markers, such as Sketch and Ciao markers, as it holds the maximum amount of ink. The ink can be refilled 9 times from distinct ink bottles and has 9 distinct nibs selection. Classic Copic markers contain a medium broad/brush tip and a fine nib/bullet tip that can be used for various kinds of results. These kits contain seventy-two original Copic marker colors, come in diverse sets and are imported. These markers have been used by the illustrators and designers worldwide for decades. They are used for various kinds of piece of arts. Art like the step by step drawing tutorials I have on my site here. These markers are the good investment as you have to buy it only once as they are refillable. These are also termed as alcohol based markers. It allows you to replace the nibs and is a complete flexible marker. They are one of the most favored markers and they even have been hand tested before sending it out to assure that it performs well. Copic inks do not absorb toner as Copic markers are alcohol based; their ink dries rapidly and blends fluently. They are termed as fast-drying, long lasting and reliable. They work great with watercolors and can be surely enhanced with color pencils. This means that this piece of art, when blended with other fine art media such as watercolors and color pencils, increases the adaptability of this product. A medium broad nip much gives the finer line in contrast of the fine nib. The bullet tip is best suited for light hands whereas brush tip can provide much better results and control on the blending. The colors of Copic markers can also be mixed to create an infinite hue range. By intermixing with the colorless blender solutions, a diluted tone value is created which looks stunning when applied to coloring or sketching.
The alcohol inks used in these markers are permanent on many surfaces such as paper, leather, wood, fabrics, plastic, faux fur etc. they also work well on glossy surfaces such as glazed ceramic and glass. However, the ink might scratch off from such glossy surfaces so use a sealant to protect the surface. Make sure that the sealant does NOT contain alcohol, ethanol, or any other form of alcohol as these will ruin your coloring and drawing ideas for beginners. Copic Original markers have a very low odor so you don’t have to worry about getting overwhelmed with the smell when working in a closed or small room. Due to the low-odor, replaceable tips and refillability, these markers are completely environment-friendly. They have tight fitting caps which will never let the markers dry out. You can even swamp theses markers with water or left them in your car in sun or snow and they will not be damaged or dry out as long as the cap is placed properly.
Copic original markers have a minor issue that they feel huge and uneasy in the hands of artists, illustrators or the person who have a keen interest in the artwork which is hardly a downside if you compare it with all the great benefits it provides you and step by step drawing videos. The Copic markers tight-fitting caps have the classification of the color code stamped which means that the writing and coding on the color cap will never come off. The entire cost of this Copic original marker and the refilling of ink (6 times) is $1.54 that is an incredible value for a product of this quality. The color codes of the diverse ink refills are similar to Copic Sketch markers for apparent classification. There are certain types of Copic markers, but the most frequent are the Copic Classic/Original, the Copic Sketch, and the Copic Ciao. The Copic Sketch markers come in a vast range of colors i.e. 358 colors whereas Copic Ciao markers hold 180 color options. The comparison between these three markers is that Copic original markers hold the maximum amount of ink whereas the Copic sketch marker is in between the Copic original and Copic Ciao. Ultimately the Copic Ciao markers are used for beginners, cheaper and have the least amount of color options so we can conclude that Copic original marker is considered a premium product among both of them. These superb and high-quality inks are checked at least four times for accuracy in accomplishment. The customers of these Copic markers enjoy their artwork and are convinced by using these markers. The users rapidly feel the quality difference of these excellent markers. And easy stuff to draw  for sure.  In a nutshell, it is a premium product at a premium price.

REVIEWS:
The different color configuration sets contain a variety of rich colors that can be utilized on different artworks. For instance, a beautiful and innovative dress has been made by blending colored markers and the colorless brush. They worked great together and was quite appreciative. The dots pattern on the dress was done by the colorless marker to lighter the ink and make it looks impressive. Look for drawing ideas for beginners on the main site 😀
It looked stunning when applied on the rubber surface.  A fine tip brush marker gave spectacular result than a brush marker and gave a natural look by the coloring the chops as depending on the surface. The chisel tip didn’t look great on the rubber surface. The ink of brush markers dries swiftly so plan it accordingly. It worked like super classy.
It looked clean when applied to wire hooks. The markers used to color the wire in diverse colors. The blending is done by the clean colors so that it works magnificently and look versatile. This also worked well on plain metal staples.
Here are plain cloth flowers. Lets took a part of flowers and choose the yellow color to paint the center of petals and hold until it dries. Then move forward for wetting the outer surface of the petals each at a time with the colorless blend color by flaunting it. The color fluid by inking the surface with the orange marker.
This brightens up the color of markers and the colored flowers are much cuter and glorious than the original one. So you can design some fantastic clothes by these markers for your kid’s toys and honestly, it looks elegant.
Next one is a reused soda tab earrings that have been made by using the markers to color the metals. This looks fashionable as it can be gifted to the people who are related. The coloring is done by both fine tip and chisel tip. The few small beats are placed at the bottom of the earrings and color them by the light shade mexpy marker to enhance the beauty of the earrings. The interior part is colored by distinct mexpy markers with a variety of colors.
The other one is a cut up piece of aluminum soda that is colored by various colors of mexpy markers. Use a toothpick to hold a metal during the painting process so that the ink doesn’t spoil until it dries. Then sink the heated metal to ensure that the color would remain everlasting on the metal. The color combination of the metal looks innovative and pretty. This demonstrates that the innovative things can be made by the help of mexpy markers.
This is just the tip of the iceberg as many innovative things can be made like fun hanging wall, sketch work, necklace and much more. These markers offer you versatility and intensity in its ink. Its ink dries pretty quickly which is such a great pro, as waiting for the ink to dry so you can move on to the next phase, is kind of irritating and annoying. They are really easy to work with and their colors are always vibrant as the finished result. So go along and make your perfect piece of artwork whether it is your school science project or your very own masterpiece to show off to the world what easy things to draw is all about. Everyone should use these markers to get the spectacular results as the results are far beyond the expectations. I loved them because of the smooth flow of ink and the double ended tip.
