Iruma-kun, the Six Fingers and Humanity
I have been mulling over this idea for days as I devoured the Iruma-kun anime then manga and am still struggling to articulate it. The best I can boil down to is the whole goal of the Six Fingers and the return to origins is, unbeknownst to them, a desire to become more human.
I can understand, in a way, their frustration. Demons used to be merciless killers, where the strong surpassed the weak and magic, aggression and power won the day. Now we see they have idol concerts and theme parks and silly games to help demons safely purge their “wickedness” which is, in reality just another part of their nature. The majority of modern day demons deny a large part of themselves. The whole idea of a wicked cycle is endlessly fascinating to me, like this species has compartmentalized themselves so much that their pent up darker impulses periodically spring out and require them to be handled gently or hidden away. I can see how this practice is insulting and incredibly restrictive of what a demon is.
Now, right from the start, Iruma has stood out in the demon world for a few reasons. First and most obviously, he lacks any practical or cultural knowledge of demonic society. We see Iruma ignorantly stride past social norms and boundaries he didn’t even know existed. If it weren’t for his upbeat, people pleasing attitude he’d be written off as a delinquent but instead he helps foster an environment of change in a bunch of slackers and misguided students. And change is a radical concept in a society that hasn’t replaced the demon king in centuries since the old one disappeared. The effect of Iruma’s very presence, his enthusiasm and attitude and cooperative abilities can be seen so strongly on the Misfit class that its no wonder he’s become such a stand out student.
So I had heard of Irumean when I first started the series and had high expectations of him being a full on bastard. And he simply wasn’t. He was arrogant, reckless, rude at the worst but even those around him commented that his innate, unnatural kindness was still there. I argue because Irumean was never a true wicked cycle. It was Ali-san’s attempt to induce a demonic ritual onto him. But humans aren’t like demons, Iruma is a good, kind, patient boy due to his trauma and strength of character. At any point he could lash out in the most horrific fashion and leave everyone stunned because he is not bound such such strict rules of personality and conduct. His humanity is as much a strength as it is a weakness.
So according to recent chapters, Iruma has traces of Delkira’s energy. My first thought was that it was emanating from Ali-san, which is a distinct possibility but why was the ring attracted to Iruma in the first place? My next theory is that Delkira had some connection to humans as well. Either he’s a hafling or a demonized human or spent a significant amount of time in the human world. Either way, this human perspective is what made him so powerful, such an irreplaceable leader that his throne has remained empty for so long. One could even argue that the energy that the Six Fingers identify as ‘Delkira’ is actually just ‘human’ since the King’s energy is familiar while a human’s is not.
My whole round about point I’m doing a very poor job of explaining essentially boils down to, demons want to return to their origins to have more control over their baser instincts. Instincts and free will that humans, such as Iruma, possess naturally. But while Iruma has the capability for great evil, unrestrained by a set cycle, he also has such an overflowing well of love in him. Delkira, what little we’ve seen of him comes across as brash, fickle and cruel. You may note those are human traits as well. But Iruma also leads with kindness, dedication and teamwork. He will make a marvelous King because the humanity he brings to the table will help all of demonkind.
I do believe as the manga progresses we will see Iruma’s humanity become a game changer in the battle against the Six Fingers. How he sees the world (both human and demon), how he interacts and inspires others, how he fights. Reaching a point where not only does Iruma stand up for himself but he is forced to cause harm (and by consequence addressing his people pleasing trauma) and behave in a manner not seen by demons outside of their wicked cycle. When he does, years down the road, become King, I believe he will address the concerns of factions like the Six Fingers. Demons are not meant to be fully contained but cannot be allowed to run rampant. With his feet in both worlds, I believe he will be able to balance both opposing views and ‘heal’ the underworld as the prophecy states. Not just from the instability of the Six Fingers but from this bizarre evolutionary cycle demons have fallen into over the centuries.

Okay, I’m re-listening to the Murderous Mask and Peter’s “run away with me” monologue is recontextualized SO MUCH in light of recent events!
When Juno asks if Sasha/Dark Matters were in on the heist, Peter says no—“it pays to have powerful friends”. That struck me as odd up until recently, because we quickly learn that Peter…doesn’t have friends or allies or, well, anything, really. He works solo and burns through identities too quickly to make or maintain those kinds of connections. But now we know he’s in deep debt to a pharma corp, which are some of the most powerful forces in the solar system, even rivaling Dark Matters.
All well and good, except Peter also says “You can leave Hyperion City behind, I’ll leave my powerful friends behind. We’ll sell the mask and live a life of thrills and decadence across the galaxy, always running, never looking back.” And that…we know that’s wrong. We know Peter can’t leave Slip behind. So what gives?
I don’t think Peter ever actually thought Juno would leave Mars with him in the Murderous Mask. It’s why he left his name on a note in Juno’s couch (before he even makes the proposition) instead of just saying it. He knew Juno would say no. He was always planning on coming back, of course, but if Juno runs away with Peter, he could be used as more leverage against him. Another person for the corporation to balance Peter’s debts against.
…but it’s a nice idea, right? Being able to finally leave behind the pressure of ever-growing debt and run off with the detective who he’s fallen for so quickly. Running away was a dream, and there’s no harm in keeping the fantasy alive because he knows Juno won’t leave Mars.
I don’t think that ever really changed until the aftermath of Miasma—when he thought Juno had died and he lost everything again, only to miraculously recover it. Anything seems possible after that. But reality would’ve sunk in eventually, even if Juno hadn’t left that night.
Let’s say they had run away together back then. It would be the same situation that made Peter leave in season 3: he’s still in ever-growing debt and Juno would be just new collateral for Peter’s creditors. It’s too dangerous, and Peter can’t bear to lose him again.
All this to say that I firmly believe that if Juno hadn’t left that night, Peter would’ve. Better to throw away something precious yourself than watch someone else shatter it because of you.
They were both always going to leave. Juno just reached his conclusion faster than Peter, is all.

Happy Holidays & Have Fun Decorating! For Your OP In Colours, Can I Please Have Izou + Purple? Thank You Cee ♡~.
thank youu! i finished decorating yesterday and i'm so happy with how everything turned out (can you tell christmas is my favourite holiday lol)
persian indigo.
luxurious silk. porcelain complexions. naked touches. blushing cheeks. timid advances. shy smiles. a line that could be crossed any day now.
"izou, could you- oh!"
you burst into izou's room and regret it as soon as you do. izou stands in the middle of the room, a towel tied around his waist and his hair dripping water onto his bare shoulders.
"trying to sneak a peek?" he teases.
you flush, "oh my god, no. i should've knocked- i'm so sorry, i-"
you're fully aware of your babble but the part of your brain that stops you from doing embarrassing things is apparently non-existent. it's unfortunate that you're too busy stuttering over your words that you don't notice the tender way izou watches you.
you're cute enough to begin with but when you're flustered, izou thinks you're downright adorable.
"-anyway, i'll, um, come back later."
you start backing out of the door but izou calls out to you.
"it's fine. just stay," he motions for you to come in. "what'd you need?"
you take a deep breath, calming yourself. "i was going to ask if you could help me with my kimono."
izou smiles, and you can't help but smile back. he is ridiculously good at easing your nerves, which are currently running wild given the fact that he's barely clothed at the moment.
"of course."
you pass him the silk garment, "i tried asking jozu but all he did was put me in a strait jacket."
izou chuckles, a low and melodic sound, and your heart flutters.
"well," he winks. "you've definitely come to the right person."
you shake your head, "i don't know why i didn't come to you first."
"you should've," his fingers hover yours for a beat longer than they need to. "i'm always here for you."
there's a sincerity in his voice that makes you look up, and you stand there, enchanted by the way he looks at you.
on a regular day, izou's dark eyes are enough to leave you breathless, especially when he meets your gaze from across the room. but up close, it's a whole different story.
maybe it's the fact that this is your first time seeing him in his natural beauty. his long hair loose on his shoulders, falling over his eyes; his skin silky white, still dewy from his shower; and his lips — oh god, his lips.
even without his usual lipstick, his lips are a rosy pink and positively kissable. you wonder if they'd feel as soft as they look before you catch yourself — the errant thought leaves you blushing.
you hope he doesn't notice (he does).
"can you turn around for me?"
oh, thank god.
"sure."
you're relieved for the chance to avoid eye contact for izou, but for him, this is an entirely different test of self-control.
for all his flirting and teasing, izou tries very hard to still be a gentleman around you. you don't realize it but if he had it his way, he would've made you his a long, long time ago.
he slips the kimono around you, enchanted by the way it hangs off your frame. truth be told, he's barely listening to your story about jozu. when he moves your hair aside, he catches a whiff of your shampoo — a fruity, subtle scent. it smells divine, and he wonders if you'd taste even more delightfully so.
he works around you, taking his time, and your story starts to taper off as you lose focus. you've never realized how slender his fingers are, and — as they ghost your skin — you take notice of how gentle his touch is. even through your juban, your skin burns everywhere that izou touches you. it's electrifying and it leaves you craving more.
when you walked into his room, you hadn't anticipated how intimate this experience would be but standing in front of him now, you're painfully aware of it.
"almost done," izou speaks in a low whisper, his breath tickling your neck.
"already?"
izou spins you around until you're face-to-face with him again, and his hands stay on your waist.
"i could undress you again if that was too quick for you," his fingers tug at your kimono.
maybe it's the way he's gripping you that makes you more confident than you've ever been, or it could be your new carnal desire that makes you so bold but you place your hands on his bare chest in response. izou flinches at the contact and it only spurs you on.
"i just think" — you trace his abs and he sucks in a breath — "it's unfair for you to be so naked while i'm" — you bite your lip — "not."
and right there, izou snaps.
"i can change that," he growls.
he kisses you, as hot, passionate and hungry as you'd hoped for, pushing you back until your legs bump into the bed. the two of you fall onto his mattress in a mess of limbs and fabric as you race to undress.
needless to say, it's a long while later that you both emerge from his room with sheepish smiles and swollen lips.
as the two of you join up with the rest of the crew, izou smiles to himself; you're beautiful in your kimono but now he knows how much more beautiful you are out of it too.
thank you for reading!
