They are all obviously really big fans of Ash and Ash's music influenced their groups style over time.

Airi is the leader of the group and main vocalist.

Mai is the lead vocalist and sort of a second in command.

Rubi is the sub vocalist and goes on to also be the main rapper.

Kanna is the lead dancer and a frequent face of the group.

Umika is the main dancer and is the youngest.

When we see them in the movies, they are waiting to debut, and do so right after the Majestic run starts. They come to one of the first shows to say goodbye to Ash and wish her luck performing the rest of the shows.

Airi and Mai are best friends and have been really close since they were little.

Rubi is actually named after Clay Calloway's wife as her parents were huge fans.

Kanna is actually Umika's older cousin and the two have a sister like bond.

They went to America before debuting to quickly learn English, as immersion is one of the best ways to learn languages, and they all are pretty near fluent by the time of Sing 2 since they knew some basics beforehand.

In terms of group style, it's very cutesy (as we see in the movies) but also has pastel grunge aspects thrown in (again, thanks to Ash). Over time, it eventually transitions to full pastel grunge.

They do a few collabs with Ash after debuting, something that all six of them were super thrilled about.

Airi is the leader of the group but not the most parental, a title that falls onto Kanna due to her already taking care of her baby cousin. Airi does act the second most mature out of the group though.

Umika is the baby of the group and is unsurprisingly babied by the others a lot.

Rubi is the scary one of the group and is very protective of her friends, especially at shows.

Mai is often a guest on radio or news programs due to her being very bubbly and cheerful.

Ash became like a big sister or older cousin to the group after them being some of her biggest fans as she got her career of the ground and is pretty close with them (chats with them on insta after they go back to Japan).

finally, finally finished the ~definitive~ designs for my main Motley girls :’)

Extensive design notes under the cut (mostly for documentation purposes, but also because i like talking about my ocs lol)

In my last post, I introduced the idea of giving each character multiple colors, rather than being one uniform color throughout the design. The idea is that the characters can earn up to 3 new colors as they age+experience new things.

For each color they earn, they’ll wear a new ‘evolved’ version of their previous outfit.

For comparisons sake, here’s the initial pass I took at trying to give my characters more colors:

Fact: it’s actually incredibly difficult to design monochrome outfits for characters without the designs looking extremely unfinished (to me, anyways lol). In an attempt to break up the monotony of the monochrome outfit designs, I found myself over relying on the outline colors to fill in their outfit pieces (cherrys pants, limes turtleneck, etc). This hypothetically works, but it ended up causing a lot of confusion as to how many colors the characters had actually earned, especially when the outline color was vastly different from the intended color. Basically, the tl;dr is that over relying on the outline colors felt like cheating, looked bad, and caused a lot of issues.

All of this explanation is to set up the 2 design rules I gave myself for the New Definitive Designs:

1. Outline colors MUST NOT be over relied on, and should be used as sparingly as possible

2. Nothing is sacred. If it looks bad, throw it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also decided to shift around their body types slightly, since I realized that practically every character had the same build with a different height (with the exception of Banana). Marshmallow is a bit curvier, Watermelon is slightly more muscular, etc. And, while you cant really tell because of their baggy outfits, Lime is much boxier and Blueberry is lankier and has wider shoulders than the others.

Finally, here’s some specific design notes for each character, how they changed, and why:

Cherry Pit - Cherry may not have had the most drastic changes, but hers were definitely the most important. She’s had the same hairstyle ever since the first time I drew her (back in ....... middle school lol), and as attached as I was to it, it caused a LOT of problems. It gave her an ugly silhouette, the sharp edges kind of ruined her circle motif, etc. So it had to change. I decided to give her a fluffier hair style to incorporate more round edges into her design, and I truly cannot tell you how many hairstyles I cycled through before I landed on that one. It was major development hell. But I think the new style is much much cuter! Due to story reasons, I also decided to give her 2 outfit colors instead of just one, and she seriously looks so much better because of it. Big fan of Cherrys new design lol

Blueberry Cobbler - Ohhhh where to start with this one. Blueberrys design has always been a headache to me. I found it difficult to draw consistently, and even when I got it to look how I wanted, it still didn’t look very good. So, my goal for her redesign was to overhaul her design while keeping the general idea behind it; most importantly, she needed to be Fun To Draw. So, I changed the silhouette of her sweatshirt by giving her a more exaggerated hood, replaced her bulky zipper with the hanging ties (idk what theyre called lol), and Changed Her Ugly Ass Tights into baggier pants. I also crimped her hair to make it more angular. In the context of this universe, cold colors have naturally colder body temperatures, so they have to wear insulated clothing to stay chilly; the overall baggier clothes really just fixed all of my issues with her design honestly. Better for her personality type, prettier silhouette, in-universe reasoning, etc. Scrumptious.

Lime Pie - I decided to swap out her cargo pants for a long skirt, and let her hair down. This was mostly because, with the monochrome outfit she needed to wear, the turtleneck+cargo pants combo just wouldnt work without looking Pretty Bad. It also helps her outfit stand out a bit more, as she’s now the only character in the main cast that is wearing a skirt. She’s meant to be an inversion of the “nerdy girl lets her hair down and puts on a dress and Now She Is Popular” trope, so the idea is that when she earns her 2nd color, she will start wearing her hair up again, and the cargo pants can come back. Maybe.

Marshmallow Fluff - I honestly hit the nail on the head with this one in the initial batch of concepts I did, so I didnt change much lol. The biggest change is that I made her hair light again. This was because shes obviously meant to have a cloud motif, but her sister (who I rarely post about lol) has a thundercloud motif-- basically, I’m just saying that the darker hair is gonna go to her sister instead.

Banana Pudding - Again, she looks almost exactly the same. I just changed the red outline of her original dress to be less contrasting, since I got a lot of people asking if she’d earned two colors or not. Hopefully, its more clear now that she’s only earned one.

Watermelon Sorbet - As much as I liked her original design, many many people told me she looked like a ‘cool yoga instructor’ character. Which, while not terrible, wasn't exactly what I was going for; she’s meant to be more of an ‘edm dancer’ kind of character. So, I decided to change out her pants for bigger legwarmers that I’m hoping make her look a bit more hyper active.

Thats all my notes lol. I have no idea if anyone is gonna read this far, but if you do, thanks :’) I fully realize that making so many notes about this looks silly, considering theyre OCs and not like ..... widely known characters. So Im sure a lot of what Ive said just sounds like gibberish. But its fun to ME!!!!!!!!

-he'll buy you cute clothing and cute pokemon onesies for you to wear on stream! he'll have you pose with him and take a picture of and post it online with the caption of; "My partner is live right now! go check them out!" and you automatically get a lot of nice people and comments on your streams!

-he'll happily play games with you on stream. but it will take a lot of convincing for him to put on a Pokemon onesie and sit down with you as you chat with the viewers, he of course gives in because he cant say no to you forever. soon he fully embraces it and takes a photo of the two of you in matching Pokemon onesie and posts it. and sometimes the two of you dress up your own Pokemon in cute things and have them join in on the stream! the viewers really enjoy that.

-he defiantly supports your goal of being one of the best streamers. hes always there to take care of you when youre in need while streamin, need water? hes on it. youre humgry? he makes you a 5 course meal so you could enjoy, he doesnt mind you watibg or drinking on stream but sometimes he makes you take a break so you could actually enjoy yourself and not strain yourself. he makes sure streaming doesnt stress you out and that its something that you should enjoy and not feel like a chore.

-as i said before, he loves to play games with you while streaming. thet two of you would be playing a horror game and people would expect you to be the one screaming and holding onto Raihan, but its actually the opposite. hes screaming at the horrific visuals holding onto you as you concentrate(youre carrying the whole game, he died and just let you go on without him), trying to beat the game so you guys could play a happy two player game.

brozone and the bunker part 1

im sorry but i have to break this up into more than one part bc tumblr only allows 30 images on a post. so i tried my best to get good screenshots of everything and ill tell you a little about my thought process 😁i tried to make all of them good looking bc they were pop sensations so theyre are still gonna be good looking (aged like a fine wine) bc majority of celebs do

so first up, as the oldest, is john dory. i tried to recreate his jacket but there were no vests like that, theres no option for glasses/goggles on the head so theyre on his face. i also tried to do the fingerless gloves but again no option :(

you got the close up of his face with and without goggles. i picture him as kinda scruffy. you cant tell bc of the clothes but hes fit and toned. he has body hair, arms legs and chest. i also gave him a little tattoo. i didnt have many colors to work with for hair so i felt the green fit him the best.

next is bruce. same as john, didnt have many colors to work with for hair but it works. like john he has facial hair and body hair, especially chest hair. i choose a tied back style bc 1 there was no hair as big and beautiful as his hair and 2 he works in food as his hair is supposed to be tied back. i gave him his dad bod but still kind of toned? hes still strong. i went through every outfit and added his wedding ring

onto the middle child, clay. i tried to do the wild hair but none of the styles suited him. i headcanon that clay often ties his hair back when hes working so i choose that style. i didnt see any shirt choices with the pattern he wears but i did kind of incorporate with his pants. clay and floyd both lean towards thinner body types so thats what i did. idk if itll show up once i post this but i wanted clay to still have some of that 'fun boy' charm so i gave him freckles bc whats more boyish than freckles

time for the sensitive one, now bc i didnt think anyone would want to see these, i did use cc for some of them. i remember floyd for sure. i couldnt do one earring like i wanted so he has two. i tried to give him more piercing but they didnt work. i gave him heavy eye makeup and a beauty mark. it just seemed to fit in my opinion. i leaned into soft boy image, the 2000s emos, and the fact that his body was probably not the same after dying. so he looks soft and cozy and comfy.

on to the baby, bitty b, baby branch. i leaned into the greens in his canon outfit. i wanted him be wearing woodsy, hand made, patched up looking clothes. again did my best with the hair. hes got a sturdy build like john but hes slimmer than john. i wish i would have put some kind of scar on his face, that fits him.

for the actual bunker i tried to base it off branch's drawing and what we see in the canon of the movies and show. i was mainly trying to set it up like the drawing. there are on elevators in the sims so i just made a basic room to act as an entry way or foyer with a staircase. i feel like branch would have a bunch of clutter and junk. so when his brothers "moved in" hed have to move stuff around and i imagine that hed have some of their grandmas stuff and some of his brothers old stuff. i also wanted to incorporate the fact that he probably started building this when he was still really young so some design choices were made by a little kid

hiya there sorry if this seems like a big thing to ask of but do you know which sonic characters do have like, official halloween outfits? Like, have been officially published/endorsed by sega.

I know Metal has the Reaper, Shadow has the phantom-vampire hybrid looking costume, Rouge has the witch, Knux has the mummy and Omega is just a big ol' cute pumpkin.

hmm well it depends on what youd count as official by sega i guess, like if youre only counting stuff from games or if other official artwork counts too.. but ill just assume that anything from official media counts. so firstly theres a decent amount of halloween themed sonic channel art that has the characters dressed up:

i think theres at least one more sonic channel wallpaper of reaper metal sonic but im too lazy to track it down.. anyway theres also halloween skins in sonic forces speed battle and theyre all based on existing halloween looks but most of them are a little different from the original, heres the ones that are different:

and sonic usually wears a black cape for halloween art or events, sometimes he has a hat sometimes he doesnt

the outfit amy is wearing is actually based on an outfit from sonic runners but i dont know if it was intended as a halloween thing before so i didnt show it .. also big and froggy are from an early version of the cover the final version replaced them with silver which is why amy and cream are on there twice

and theres also an upcoming idw sonic halloween special, since its not out yet there could be stuff im missing but we do get to see vector espio and charmys costumes in the preview

YESYEYS i tried not to turn my last hcs ask into all jedtavius but oooh boy

- they have "movie dates" watching stuff on larrys computer, but they only ever watch the same 10 movies so it usually just dissolves into them yelling at the screen. how romantic

- they both literally have no idea what theyre doing in their relationship. octavius is always way overly formal and makes every date announcement like theyre going to war or something. jed doesnt even try, he just drags octy to random places like "yep, were on a date now"

- teddy and larry are usually the ones that jed and octy go to for advice in their relationship. teddy because hes actually good at advice, and larry because his advice is usually terrible and they can laugh at him (larry tries to give good advice but he has literally never been in a lasting long term relationship. he has no idea what hes doing)

- if they ever get married, octy is wearing a skirt. not like a long one, probably a suit-skirt that goes down to his knees. i need to draw this at some point but ehh im too lazy

- larry got the suits by going through a bunch of different websites and scouring the entire internet. larry is in charge of planning food and outfits for the minis, akh plans the decorations and seating, and teddy is there to make sure the entire project does not go down in flames (need to write a lil fic about this sometime but im too lazy)

advice for avoiding the oppressive institution that is school dress codes? /hj

hey ey!!

i gotta start this off by saying my school doesnt have a dresscode, but i have one at work so ill share my tricks from there.

to start off its important you know the rules, and know where to find them, if a teacher scolds you for something thats technically allowed make sure you can prove em wrong. malicous compliance is key here.

some things you may be able to change in ur uniform/clothing:

(ill work my way up from shoes to hair to make it somewhat comprehensible.)

-shoes: at work we gotta wear black and/or white shoes. so i changed out the laces on my sniper boots to colored ones, and attached small carabiners to the laces them, on my vans i also have colored laces and shoe wings. you can also add beads, chains or other stuff. if the rules are very lax you can even paint them or add small patches to them. also wear fun socks with fun colors and patterns

-pants: cuff them, wear (wallet) chains, slightly worn, discolored jeans also give an alternative look. cargos are in but i advise widelegged ones, if youre able to get your hands on them, vintage, they are more comfortable, better quality and have more pockets. pants with patterns from cow to camouflage. also belts!! studded or if those are not allowed you can wear multiple at the same time. you can add patches with safety pins or add buttons.

-tops/shirts/blouses: if you have to wear a uniform with a blouse, cuff the sleeves, open a few top buttons and flip up the collar. to the collar you can also add collar pins and/or put a chain between them. see if youre allowed to add pins buttons or safety pins to your clothes. maybe you can layer a fishnet under them. wear t-shirt with big prints, bandnames or vagely political statements few ppl will understand. i like to cut the sleeves off of my shirts. leather jackets or vests always add a lot to your outfit. flannels with bright colors or instead earth tones.

-necklaces/chokers: bigger chains with big charms can add a lot, i have two big bone shaped dogtags, and a big one in the shape of a clover (the playing card symbol) also military dogtags with instead of ur info, bands or political statements on them are rlly cool. you can also make necklaces out of safety pins, but be careful that they wont open by themselves. you can permanently close the opening with pliers if needed. if chokers are allowed there are often rules against ones with sharp spikes, so bare ones or piramid/cone studs can be worn instead.

-bracelets/cuffs: for the cuffs its the same as the chokers. to beaded bracelets you can also add political statements or band names. chain bracelets or ones that connect to rings always look cool. see if you can wear rings and if yes try chunkier ones with a cool shape. try fingerless gloves or armwarmers.

-tattoos/hairstyles/piercings: dresscodes are opressive bullshit but i carry a perticular hatred for ones that ban piercings tattoos or hairstyles. if theres a ban on piercings you can get ones that you can hide (horseshoe septum) or ones that can be camouflaged with flesh colored jewellry. tattoos can be hidden with the right clothing. if bright unnatural haircolors are not alowed combine regular ones, black and blonde, red and blonde, brown and black, etc. you can split dye, dye the points or roots or dye particular sections. not allowed to shave your sides? thightly braid them like those viking braids to give the effect theyre shaven. also once youve shaven your head theres nothing they can do about it. also paint ur nails.

other stuff:

you can always hide certain accesoires in your bag or under your clothes during class and wear em during breaks or free periods. also dont hestitate to try out how much the rules are actually policed.

Art tips for thinking of outfits/poses for fanart illustrations

I saw someone on reddit a while ago say they struggled to think up new poses/outfits for when they're drawing their favourite characters, and I gave them a whole bunch of tips to help. I thought maybe more people would like to hear my thoughts, so here you go! I hope this post helps!

My secret to thinking of new poses/outfits is one word: Pinterest (and google images, tho i'd recommend that one a bit less bcuz google's being finicky rn).

Just searching through certain aesthetics/moodboards for outfits ideas helps for when i genuinely just don't know what to make a character wear. And searching up swimsuit/underwear models, who may be modelling their clothes in a really dramatic and dynamic pose, helps too. (the models being specifically swimsuit/underwear models is a very important detail. it ensures that you can actually look at the human body without clothes blocking your view and understanding of the basic forms)

facial expressions are also important! it looks weird when the pose doesn't match up with the face, like with for example, a character pointing at something in the ace attorney 'objection!' style all dramatic and stuff, while their face is a completely blank smile. Of course, the best way to fix that would be to open their mouth and frown, while also scrunching up their eyebrows and nose. This is very important to remember when posing a character, because poses can only tell you so much, but the facial expression can completely change the mood and presentation of the character.

let's use my art as an example:

Now, imagine that, instead of the drawing above having just a normal smile, it was instead haru looking sad/disappointed while looking down at the floor. picture this sprite

the face, combined with the pose, could make it look like she was trying to say something important, but got cut off before she could speak (probably by her dad). It gives the drawing a completely different vibe! I could list many more examples but you get it.

Of course, poses, outifts, and faces are just one fraction of the process; you also have to take into consideration the character's personality. like take Haru for example. Haru is very kind-hearted, shy, reserved, and soft spoken. so for illustrations (original comics/animations follow different rules, this advice just applies to single standalone illustrations) you would want to pick a pose/outfit that best conveys those aspects of her personality. You wouldn't put Haru in like, a giant fursuit with a slouching pose, giving the camera the middle finger with a standoffish expression on her face (or maybe you would, idk how u roll ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). But you could put Haru in a sundress, with her hands clasped at her midsection, and giving the camera a shy smile with her middle finger up.

ALSO! you can break these rules! you don't always have to put Haru in only outfits that suit her, a good exception to this is all the DLC costumes. some of those are... hilariously absurd, and something that Haru would never normally wear, BUT they're funny, and aren't meant to be taken as a serious outfit that conveys the character's personality, they're just meant to be for fun, so it's totally okay to draw original outfits with that idea behind them.

The same applies to poses/expressions. there's many scenes in the mangas/anime where Haru makes poses/expressions that she would never normally make. that's fine too! those scenes out of context aren't meant to capture the true essence of the character--- theyre just meant to be one-off drawing that you'll see for only a second before moving on (that's why i said they were an exception, it's because thered be so much you'd restrict yourself off from if you followed the rules to a T).
