Like maybe he’s in jail and they start talking by accident and it’s a super slow process but they begin to trust each other and end up meeting/falling in love? 🌺

He was just trying to call his boy

Blow off some steam

Shoot the shit before his time ran out and he had to go back to his cell

He was scratching at the paint on the phone while he waited, hearing the line click and expecting to hear the deep voice of his friend

But instead its a much softer voice

One he's never heard before

"Hello?"

And his brows knit because who the fuck is this?

He doesn't have to wonder long though

"Uh, hi. Ray was it? Yeah uh, you have the wrong number. Sorry. I didn't want to hang up before the call connected so you wouldn't waste your time calling again and again. Not sure who you're trying to reach but...this isn't them."

Your laugh is awkward yet...endearing

Soft and light

Such a contrast to what he hears in here

Not to mention, he hasn't had a woman laugh in his ear in quite some time

Even if it's through this shitty phone

He chuckles himself and leans against the wall

"Yeah, I guess not. Tony could never sound so beautiful."

You laugh again and Ray smiles on instinct at the sound

Shocked that you haven't hung up yet

You knew he was an inmate

The collect call always tells you ahead of time

So that meant you stayed on the call and accepted anyway

Just like you said, so he wouldn't waste his call time

And the thought is so selfless that he doesn't wanna hang up

He expects you to though

So he lies

"Well, they don't really let us call another number once we dial. We only get the five minutes with one number. If they don't pick up or we get cut off, tough shit. So maybe we could talk for the next...four minutes and 20 seconds?"

It's a shot in the dark and he's 100% expecting the line to click

"Oh, well...ok. Not sure what you want to talk about, stranger."

You laugh again and so does he

"What's your name?"

The silence stretches for a bit and Ray winces, feeling like he fucked it up

"Nevermind, it's all good. I'll call you Sunshine, since that's how your voice sounds."

He knows it is ridiculous

Spitting game to a girl he doesn't know and will never speak to again, but it's enough to pass the time

Your laugh is sweet like honey when it passes through the receiver and even though he has no idea what you look like, he can almost see you roll your eyes

"Smooth talker, I see."

"I try."

The rest of the call goes by the same, him flirting gently and you laughing until the automated voice signals that the call is going to end in 30 seconds

And against his better judgment, he calls again the next day

And you pick up again

The days pass like that, his light flirting and you entertaining him

He asks what you ate today and you tell him in elaborate detail to where he can almost taste it

Asks what the weather is like and your words are so vivid, it paints the picture for him to where he feels like he can see through your eyes

He longs and yearns for your voice and talks

Soon enough, you've been talking every day, him getting your name and stopping with the flirting once he realizes that he's actually into you

And the days turn into weeks

Weeks into months

You send him a picture of yourself, praying that doing so isn't a mistake

And he sends you one back of himself

You write letters to each other

Video calls when he can

He has another inmate paint a portrait of you and sends it as a gift

And before either of you realize, his release date is coming up

He extends the offer to see if you'd be willing to meet him, and even though he wants to, he wouldn't be hurt or offended if you refused

Proud and understanding of your apprehension

So he offers to meet in a crowded public place if you're willing and you are

Both of you sporting each other under the bright sun in the local farmers market

Your eyes brighter than he ever could've imagined

Your smile enough to make his heart feel like a puddle of warm butter

He stands before you and stuffs his hands into his pockets, itching to touch you but not daring to

"Hi, Sunshine."

And the twinkle in your eye as you gaze at him is enough to convince him that punching the number in wrong that day was the best mistake he's ever made

"Hi, Stranger."

Prime Problem (and fixing it)

One thing that makes me kind of upset is that Sonic Prime is, in fact, cannon. There's nothing wrong with it, per say... don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it. But one fact alone is enough to irk me... The fact that Rouge is apparently closer to Sonic than she is to Shadow now.

For a while now, Sega has had an urge to make the main cast a group of five. It's happened for both Boom and Prime now, with the fifth character being exchangeable (either Stix or Rouge). Stix I was fine with; she fit the narrative, had great chemistry with the cast, and was just an enjoyable character to watch. Rouge on the other hand I've never been a big fan of in the first place. I know people do love her, but most of her charm from the very beginning was based on her chemistry with dark characters. Case in point, Team Dark (Sonic Heroes), where she's definitely closer to Shadow than she is to anyone on Team Sonic (including even Knuckles). While she was great in Prime and I loved all of her variants, I think there's definitely a better candidate for the fifth character. A much better one, who needed more time in the spotlight, desperately more. I'm talking about Cream the Rabbit.

No, this isn't only about the fact Cream will forever be my favorite character. It seems that Sega (along with most fans) have forgotten that Cream was designed to be the fifth main character of the cast. She was around for SO MANY GAMES, until she abruptly vanished after Heroes. She wasn't seen for years until reemerging in obscure places (like the olympics as a judge), or Generations (where everyone was). I hear excuses like "Oh, she's only six, they can't have her in something like Forces, that's a literal war." Dude. Charmy was there. He's six. And what, did Sega retcon the ages of every character EXCEPT for Cream? She's literally only two years younger than Tails, people! And if Big can be in Prime, why couldn't they just complete Team Rose? I WANT TEAM ROSE DYNAMICS!!!!!

Anyway, with that out of the way, let's address the real issue: How Prime would have affected Cream. (I'm mainly going to put her in places replacing Rouge, but I can also see her and Rouge being side-by-side in the shatter verse as well, take your pick) She'd get quite a bit of character development, like how the rest of the characters did, with her own special twist (yes, Cheese would also be here... for most things)

First up, No Place. This is the easiest one. Have her as part of the crew, not too much happens. She can have a small job and be a bit of the peacemaker among the group of pirates. When it comes down to it, she and Cheese can both throw a pretty good punch. (I wanna see Cheese in an eyepatch)

Next is Boscage Maze. This ones a bit more tricky, because it's a bit harder to replace Rouge. She could definitely be the voice of reason of the tree dwellers, helping them steal whatever food they can from the forest... or, she could be something of a mediator between them and Thorn Rose, since she could have some sort of closer relationship to the Amy variant. I think that if she does live strictly with the tree dwellers, that would be because something happened to Cheese when the Thorn turned on them, and she couldn't really forgive her. They would probably be reunited in the end.

Finally, New Yoke. There are two possible ways this one could play out. One, Cream plays the role as "little leader", an unexpected leader in a rebellion against the Chaos Council, with an army of chao behind her that she's raised in hopes of a better future. Or two, she discovered Nine a while back, and is determined to follow him everywhere (he possibly accidentally saved her from some sort of bullying, and she just attached herself to him). For the first option, she'd have a lot more cheery, positive attitude, yet would be able to snap at people who get out of line. For two, she'd be quiet and apathetic, and probably even more distrusting of Sonic than Nine was. If we go the second option, we'd see her standing by Nine even as he goes insane, and she could possibly turn on him for his own good. (I personally like the second option better) For either one, Cheese is no where in sight, probably because of some disaster that befell him.

Anyway, this has gotten really long, but it was fun to come up with possibilities! Which ones do you like, you guys? If there's ever a continuation, I hope they include my girl <3

So, I'm currently thinking of an SMG4 au that I really want to write and talk about. It would be sci-fi based on my own creative pieces of original characters I have written for fun and classes.

But let's get into the gist of this AU, shall we? (Long Rambling ahead)

The AU is set in the far future in a city with two opposing militia, and science-based forces. Each side believes they are doing the most humane thing by making super soldiers and creating ways to alter one's own body. They're both not good moral sources at all.

SMG4 and SMG3 would be raised (not really raised, but we'll get into that later) under the militia lab group RIV. They would live together, being raised and trained under SMG1 and SMG2, almost like parents, but not really. SMG4 and SMG3 are close friends, making fun of each other and constantly getting into trouble in the lab. The lab is all they've ever known, and the people who work in it are basically their only family. They are trained to fight and be ready for anything, but as they are in the show they are constantly messing around.

But as they reach adulthood in the lab, the main director (not sure if they'll be an OC or an SMG4 character) has their scientists in this lab working on a new visor, one that will completely alter the sounds and sights of the one wearing it to whatever the director makes it to be. And so... the director decides to make SMG3 try it on, promising him he'll be the best soldier ever. And well, let's just say SMG1 and 2 do not survive that night. :)

After the situation, SMG4 retreats to living in the city streets. And this city is extremely fucked up. The city pushes towards selling your own body parts and altering them to look and be a certain way. Let's just say both (4 and 3) fall into the trap of altering their bodies throughout the story. But while SMG4 is living off the streets, he's found one day by Meggy, a girl working under the other militia VIO. And Meggy being the kind person she is, drags SMG4 to her group's medical care, and ultimately SMG4 joins this other group. Yay!

SMG3 on the other hand has left the old militia group, well sorta he still does jobs for them. He's now like a mercenary that does his own shit. He is only doing jobs for RIV because he's obligated to and well he's probably being blackmailed in some way.

And well these two make their big reconnection as SMG4 is going back to the old lab to see the tapes connected to the visor. And SMG3 needs SMG4 after he found something that was implanted in his body that he suspects was also implanted in SMG4's.

These are just some broad strokes of an idea I have. I need to flesh it out more and figure out what the hell is actually happening. SMG34 is definitely happening in this story but more so as enemies to lovers as they're forced to work with each other. I also wanna do Meggy X Tari, but not sure how yet. But don't you worry they will be included!! I want to include other characters but I'm not sure where I would place them just yet. I hope you enjoy this rambling of my AU.

I don't wanna say this under my own name because I'm friends with too many Quackity fans, but god, everything about his actions just makes me think that what he cares about is just avoiding legal trouble and protecting his own public image

And maybe also about his friends to be fair

(I mean to his credit, I don't think he cares about money either)

He says he's doing all this for the viewers, but I guess that doesn't include the viewers who care about the French streamers or the French characters

And I don't see any hint of him genuinely caring about the workers. This is not how you treat someone you care about. He keeps implying that he can't talk to anyone because of "leaks" but what the fuck could be so bad about the "leaks" that it justifies this kind of disrespect? Why is this secrecy more important than the needs of the workers?

Nobody's asking him to reveal his biggest secrets to the workers, everyone is just asking for him to TALK to them at least, and hearing them out

He also says he can't talk because he doesn't want to make false promises, then just say that! Again, nobody asked him to promise them a job in the future, we just want him to be honest and respectful! Just tell them directly that you don't know yet and listen to their thoughts on the situation! Ask them how you can alleviate the inconvenience if it's within your means! Just talk to them like they're fellow adults who are capable of having a reasonable conversation! Because they are!

The union mentioned that some of the workers had basically been told by management that they should be grateful to be allowed to work for Quackity Studios and ngl, I wonder if this is not only the view of higher management but of Quackity himself too. That's the question I keep asking myself and not daring to say out loud: does he see the lower level workers as just fans who should be happy they were even allowed to participate at all?

Second I tbh don’t want to assume what Q true intentions really are because heavy speculation isn’t productive and can lead to more stress in general. However I think that we can agree that he isn’t doing it all for the money, given that we’ve always known QSMP was never and problably even supposed to be a profitable thing (just the hosting and translation costs alone point to this).

That said, I do agree that everything that has been done up to this point and since Lea started to reveal things seems to be more damage control and trying to avoid legal issues than actually trying to be fair to the workers. This isn’t even speculation if you consider the sudden firing of Twitter admins and the silent towards all the other admins.

Obviously, when you’re a company or an individual you wanna avoid a lawsuit at all cost. It is a logical business move, morally I don’t agree with that mindset ofc, and I also feel like it’s a misunderstanding of the intentions of most of the admins.

I don’t know any of them personally but none of them, so far, have publicly said they wanted to take the legal route or even sue Qstudios. In fact, most if not all of them have expressed their love of the project and wished for it to continue with better working conditions. Some admins also said they didn’t care about getting paid, that volunteer work was fine if they had done it without the stress and pressure. Side note if it ever comes out that some admins want to take the legal route to make their rights be recognised and be compensated then my full support to them.

As if he is doing all this for preserving his image (i say IF) then what a terrible job he’s doing. I hope I’m making very clear that QSMP and Q’s image with french speakers fans (and non fans, and other French Ccs) is in literal ruins.

Also I feel like there was a genuine wish to add different cultures, I’m talking specifically about the French and BRs here, but an underestimating of the work it takes to actually merge people from different backgrounds and that it goes beyond just putting CCs from all over the world on minecraft with a translator. The fact that there was no FR, PT or KR speaking upper admin at all in the team baffles me to this day.

Worst thing is that we probably only know like a fraction of the overwork, miscommunication and intimidation that went on behind the scenes. Heart aches for all of those who went through it. All the love to them ♥️

MONTLY MFIP UPDATE

8/13 | Month 1 | Next Month

Hey hey hey folks! Been a while, I know but we’re here now! If you’re wondering “what the fuck is this” basically I decided to take notes from my bestie @yosajaeofficial and do monthly updates for MFIP the way they do em for their story JMC so it doesn’t look like I’m dead :D (BTW Please go check out the Jayce Myles Comics, it’s gonna be a rise comic and hasn’t debuted yet but Jae’s been working super hard on it and I guarantee if you guys like MFIP, then you’ll love the JMC too so give em a follow to stay updated~)

Anywhizzle, I know I don’t update often but truth be told, I don’t usually have much publishable material. Most of the MFIP related artwork I do are usually things I can’t reveal till future chapters. They’re lore-significant and would be kinda spoilerish if I posted them before the chapters are ready so womp womp on me. All the other art I do are either for different stories, sketches, or just not things I really wanna publish at least as their own posts. I do, however, wanna show I’m not speaking out my ass so I’mma show a few of em here actually :3

First one’s like one of my favorite things ever even if it’s pretty simple. I just wanted to explore Salena’s dynamics with some of the villains and sketch em out for funsies but only got as far as Meatsweats and Kendra. Still one of the funniest shit to me ESPECIALLY the random ass beef Salena and Meatsweats have. It came out of fucking nowhere but both have accepted it as just their dynamic now. Funfact, it wasn’t even planned; I accidentally made Meatsweats the villain for chapters 1 and 3 and decided “fuck it, the bond is funny” so now they’re mortal enemies for no reason other than pure coincidence💀✨

Wanted to show this one because it’s cute and I love it. It’s one of my more recent sketches (hence the brush being changed) I did on a day I wasn’t really feeling too well and kinda craved Raph’s big-brother comfort. I might go in and actually finish this one ngl cuz it’s just really sweet to me

I also wanted to show a sneak peek at one of the chapter artworks that I mentioned earlier I cannot post yet. I’m not revealing any of the context or what chapter it’s from, but trust me y’all are in for a ride🤭✨✨✨

Alrighty, so that’s all I have for the art section. It’s not all though since I do wanna talk about the actual chapter progress itself in this next section

So, all y’all know the last chapter posted was chapter 9 and the one I’m working on currently is chapter 10. It’s got 19 pages so far in the docs but still kinda near the beginning. Chapter 9 was HUGE for me to write and I kinda think it’s the longest chapter I’ve written in general even including chapters from other stories I’ve written in the past so it really put me through a trip. I’m really happy and proud with how it turned out but it did burn me out a little so I’ve spent most of my summer break resting and regaining my energy. I’ve dabbled into other projects, other stories, AUs, etc. A lot of it was self-indulgent stuff which may still be posted on a separate account but it does mean I wasn’t progressing much with MFIP itself. I never abandoned it though or even properly stepped away from it tbh, it stayed in my mind and I kept having ideas that I added to my notes or just random brainrot I liked expanding on. It also gave me a chance to approach chapter 10 with a new lens cuz it had to be mentally reworked a few times to properly convey what I wanted it to. It’s still not fully figured out but it’s planned out in my head enough for me to ball it when writing the actual chapter itself as usual

I’ve also been working on some oneshots too! They’re kinda optional treats for anyone who wants to read em. They do have significance in the story but it’s not gonna leave you completely lost about the lore or anything if you choose not to read them. I’ll be posting at least the first one soon, I’m not sure yet cuz the order is indeed important for the timeline sake. But anywho, expect to see some of that as fun bonus content!

Now that the chapter update’s done, I did wanna talk more to you guys about writing and the story itself. I know I’ve become incredibly slow at updating the story but I do wanna reassure you guys that I still love MFIP and have a lot of passion for it, as well as working on it as hard as I can. The reason these chapters take longer is ironically because of that. I used to be able to pump out a chapter within a few weeks but those were the REALLY early days. My chapters grew to be much longer than I ever thought they’d be and they’re filled to the brim with important details and crucial moments that I can’t take out or rush without it feeling sloppy and lacking. The quality’s also increased thanks to my wonderful team editing the chapters for any typos or continuity errors and working on MFIP with as much passion as I am but that means they need to be given enough time to do their jobs properly. My love for MFIP is greater than it’s ever been and that’s saying something cuz I was quite obsessed since day one. But since there’s so much to do and I wanna be able to make the quality worthwhile, it takes me much longer to complete chapters. On top of that, there’s obviously life stuff going on too. I still have to focus on college and study for it, especially since I’m majoring in physics, and I have to take care of my mom a lot since she’s a breast cancer survivor (officially been a decade now🦾) so we got A LOOOOOOT of doctor appointments every month. It’s just our normal. I do wish there was a way I could work faster or increase the amount of hours in a day but hey, at least we’re all waiting together. I can promise you this much: if I ever decide to drop the story—which I believe is VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY—I’ll be sure to let y’all know. I won’t ghost or randomly delete it out of nowhere someday. As far as I’m aware, I have full intent to keep this story going and keep communication clear between us :3

But yea, all in all, I think that’s all from me for this month’s update!

I hope this was a satisfying update to read (and to know the story ain’t abandoned—) and I hope next month I’ll have some cool things to show too. Maybe I’ll consider showing a written WIP next month? I’m not too sure since I usually like keeping my chapters a surprise till they’re fully done but I’ll consider it depending on how far the chapter is. For now though, I must bid y’all farewell! I’ll still be here to answer asks or do fun tag games and maybe post here and there if I have something. If ya made it this far, thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your day everyone. 1. Magic and Machines typically dont mix well, technomancy is a section of witchcraft and paganism that is still being studied and worked on and this reflects when the whole "emoji spell" trend happened. AI has a place with magic (quantuam entanglement number generators) things like that. But older/trad forms of magic seem to struggle with machines the most.

2. I do not believe Pop Culture dieties are (usually) literally existant. There are examples in which writers write about dieties because they are revealed to them in a dream (lovecraftian paganism) I think those examples are far more interesting to learn about. Pop culture dieties beyond that are more so images ascribed with a meaning, kinda like Icons.

3. Fantasy depictions of witches in movies and books are super cool! But they are ficition and are an exaggeration of what is the reality

4. I will be honest, Im not familiar with "astral pregnency" I do believe in virgin births, and astral travel. Do I believe in astral pregnancy? No not really

5. witchcraft is a practice but its very hand and hand with most religions

Funny thing is they often flip flop back and forth? Lavender is a mens soap but younger men associate it with women now. Pink used to be a mens color also. So it kinda is loose and changes over time

Y'know, I was gonna get to the rest of those starters today, maybe do some Samus replies, try to start some things with my new followers-

Unfortunately, I ordered a new bed frame, and it came early, so I am just wiped from putting that together...

But I don't wanna have accomplished nothing else today, so I'm give a small update on some side stuff I got going on;

Archie Sonic Book Club

For anyone new here, which would be most of you, I had the idea to read through an issue of the old Archie comics each day, as I'd never actually read them before, and share my thoughts on them. Sadly after the first issue, some life stuff happened and I forgot about it for a while.

So instead of it being a daily thing, I've decided to make it a once a week thing (Currently thinking Saturdays, but nothing set in stone yet). And instead of it being a single issue, I'll go over my thoughts on however many issues I read that week. Could be only a couple, could be like two whole volumes, could be none at all because I forgor, but I think giving it more of an open schedule will help me stay consistent with it.

It's going to be a long commitment, even longer because of a poll I did on my other accounts, I'm reading literally all of Archie Sonic. But I've always wanted to read these, and my portrayal of Sonic does try to mix together elements of every iteration of the series into one cohesive universe, and Archie is a big part of that. So here's hoping I can stick with it, and finally check it off my bucket list.

Chao Garden Updates

Another project I've been slowly whittling away at over the last few years is a series of streams documenting my journey to finally 100% Sonic Adventure 2. It's been a while since I've done one of those streams, and it'll probably be a bit longer before I start it back up again, but one of the biggest parts of that that I'm allowing myself to work on off camera is the Chao Garden.

Now I'm not allowed to do the races or karate, or get any more emblems, but I can raise up my chao to hopefully make conquering those a bit easier. And I kinda just wanna show the little guys off

I do have mods for it, mostly cosmetic stuff, but I also use Chao World Extended and Enhanced Chao World just to make things a bit more interesting, so they're going to be a bit... unique. I gave 'em little hats, and I have some mods for interesting evolutions (including one that is VERY cursed) and I'm hoping that having somewhere to share my progress might help me get back into it, and motivate me to keep doing it.

Just like with Archie Sonic, this would be a once a week thing (currently thinking Wednesdays, starting next week because it's too late to start now), so you're not gonna get spammed with this stuff. And both these will have their own tags so that you can ignore them entirely if they don't interest you.

I do also wanna do something Metroid related in the same vein as these, but I have no idea what (maybe checking out some romhacks? There's a ton I haven't tried out yet that are insanely popular), so I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any

Lastly, both of these things, and anything like them in the future are meant to be a community thing. I'm trying to socialize more, step out of my comfort zone (and just have more of a schedule in general but that's neither here nor there), and I find it easier to do that if people reach out first and if we have something to talk about.

So if you see those, I encourage you to leave comments, repost, engage in whatever way you want to if the topic interests you. You got thoughts on the bit of Archie I'm reading? I wanna hear them. You got memories of the chao garden and raising your lil guys, go ahead and share them! I promise, I don't bite, and I'm more scared of you than you are of me.

And... I think that's it for now. Promise I'll try to get those last three starters done tomorrow before work, and I'll definitely be trying to stick with these ideas, because I wanna talk about this stuff, and get to know this community better.

Transformers MTMTE (2012) read

I finished it. I still have more but I finished...I thought I'd have another break but I was already at Issue #50 and 6 hours later I was not as emotional compared to Issue #47 while in the car to Kings Hawaiian but it was close.

I loved it. I have the Lost Light left but I've been switching back and forth from different series. It's been a whirlwind getting into comics like this.

My only gripe is that this series is out of print and I guess I'm going to go on a long search to hunt this series down without it being expensive in the process.

More thoughts below. And spoilers. A lot of them.

I think I liked the series a lot more after Dark Cybertron. Not because of my horrific miss of story beats, but it got funnier??? I dunno I guess I was laughing more. Maybe it's the Cheers reference that sent me.

And apologies to Swerve. Each chapter to a point he had been doing recaps with the same illustration of him. Because said recap and I was reading issues back to back I tended to skip it. Course the author puts one in the middle of the damn comic to show it was a character thing...course he would.

Cyclonus and Tailgate :(((

They love each other so much ♡♡♡

I was okay on Whirl for a while. I think he has a sick design but I think personally for me to get attached to a character out of the 50 or so they have to balance they gotta have that sweet sweet moment that gets you to their side and it's the frienemy relationship he has with Cyclonus. And so fucking smart. Using his Avatar to warn Cyclonus. I wish I had a physical copy of that issue. Most of them actually. Please...these comics need to be reprinted. Lend the rights to let these damn comics to be printed. It's fucking criminal that it isn't.

I understand the flowers now. Wow. I saw them before and the tweet Alex Milne saying Optimus Prime should have the same amount. Imagine the convo between him and Megs about it. Is there? Idk I haven't read Lost Light yet.

The character exploration continues to facinate me. And surprisingly a very fun one for other characters to bounce off of. A cat dad, Rodimus' bbsitter, on the same wavelength of Ultra Magnus. Like its fun. Yeah okay a mass galactic murderer going on a Space cruise is not a punishment. However, we have other characters that point this out throughout the rest of the series. And the biggest however being you can't have a series without Megatron being in it with some capactiy. So what do you do? Chuck him in with the hooligans and see what he does sitcom style. And it's great. It's fun and I loved it. As well as the mental punishments he gets from it, too, due to sitcom hooligans.

I think its a popular moment but I have seen the panels with Megatron talking to Optimus out of context. Before reading the series I genuinely thought this was a Flashback to the past since...ya know it's all casual. I guess I was half right. The comfortability. The pleasure to talk to someone who could have been your friend without the shitty history. It's scenes like this that make the series so great. The ability to make genuine moments like these in a story.

The last interaction with Megatron I really like is Rachet. Rachet knowing Megatron is a paranoid freak yet can still talk to him? It's a fun dynamic.

I want to name my future pet "Ravage"

Yo man. Adam texted me last night. He's working through his outburst in the car on the way up. He's so sweet and emotional. I am sharing my response to him with you. It feels like I should include you. I wanna hear any input you have for me.

Yeah. Everybody has triggers. In couples counseling for example one learns how to "fight fairly". Making sure you are aware of your partners triggers so your argument doesn't get out of hand emotionally. That is when it gets unproductive. You both triggered each other. A lot of it is just inexperience. You don't have a lot of experience with close personal relationships and conflict resolution yet. You will get better at it. That experience usually comes through dating and/or living with a partner and the experiences you have resolving conflicts in interpersonal relationships. You are having to do it under the magnifying lense or your mom's death. We can't expect it to go too smoothly.

You are both navigating these experiences for the first time. Neither of you really knows what the fuck just hit you. Everything has to be taken with ultra forgiveness on everyone's part because you both are going to continue to make a lot of mistakes. You gotta find a way to treat your father with love and kindness and forgiveness. Not that you don't - you just have to keep constantly doing it over and over. You are all each other really has right now. You have to cherish each other. And you have to forgive each other. None of this is his or your fault. You guys are going through one of the hardest things people have to deal with. It is messy. You'll have to find forgiveness in your heart too for your mom. Not for her's but for your own peace. No one ever fully understands the actions of anyone else - neither yer mom nor your dad nor anyone. You'd have to be them and live every second as them to be able to use logic to grasp the actions of another. We simply don't have the data set. You haven't really been in relationships yet. You won't believe how insanely irrationally people can act. We have to believe in their intentions. What was someone trying to do. If their intentions are good then we have to work to forgive them when they fail.

When one loses control of themselves emotionally we aren't thinking carefully about what we say before we say it. That's where you were in the car that day. It is easy to say hurtful or triggering things in that state, and you did. You said a bunch of stuff and don't get me wrong - it was all valid. I don't want to stifle you at all. I guess maybe don't be surprised when we lose control and put a bunch of emotion out into the world if some comes back at us. It is all about doing better next time. It is the job of a caring partner to investigate and learn what is hurtful to avoid using hurtful language. You might need to deconstruct some arguments with your dad to understand how to be more sensitive in the future. That's the kinda stuff they are talking about when they say a relationship takes work.

For example you said some things that triggered me and if I had inserted myself I might have said something unproductive or even hurtful. I have trouble hearing you or anyone I care about saying words like never and can't. I believe our language influences our actions and indicates our intention. It is easy for me to focus on that and not really hear the other things said. I work to be aware of how distracting that is to me. It provokes an emotional response in me that is unproductive in conflict resolution.

Lastly.

I can't imagine how distressing it is for a caring parent to hear their child in so much pain. I'm amazed he can hold it together as well as he does. It would break a lesser man. I can't imagine how awful it is to lose your mom the way you did. You as well are stronger than you realize. You both are doing so very well under these awful circumstances - even though you may not be able to see it. Forgiveness is key. All of you had and have the best intentions. Forgive your dad. Forgive your mom. Forgive yourself.

Whenever her articulation is concerned, Pearl is well known for her rather precise but sometimes long-winded dialogue. She is prone to ramble whenever given the chance & hardly replies to a question or comment with a single sentence. Usually one to articulate herself almost flawlessly, Pearl can come off as haughty or patronizing from time to time -- this, however, has not always been the case.

Pearl’s change of speech is inevitably linked to her shift in status & occupation; beginning with her role as a servant on Homeworld, & altering drastically throughout growing more & more independent, with most of her alterations becoming evident during the GEM WAR. -- to Pearl, these changes made out of her own volition [alongside becoming a “knight”] hold immense importance. After all, they embody a break with the diamond authority & a step towards personal freedom.

DISCLAIMER: The following includes my own headcanons & ideas & should, by no means, to be perceived as canon. While my headcanons are usually rooted in canon lore & use analysis of aforesaid material, the very ideas are my own.

1) HOMEWORLD. as a default pearl in White Diamond’s service, Pearl possessed a high-pitched equally default voice, very clear but also extremely monotone & robotic, lacking any signs or traces of individuality. She usually articulated herself by using specific sentence components alongside ending or beginning aforesaid sentences with “MY DIAMOND”. As a default [lacking common configurations] her vocabulary as such was fairly limited. She rarely used pronouns to refer to herself. Instead, she spoke in allegories by using her superiors as a means to convey whatever she was supposed to convey [”My Diamond would like to see you now” instead of “I am here to pick you up” or “My Diamond enjoys dance performances” instead of “I like to dance”]. Needless to say, Pearl never truly expressed her own wishes or thoughts but indirectly stated her concerns through, again, using “her diamond” as a reference. While other pearls sometimes spoke more freely in private, Pearl never felt the wish to do so. In addition to her linguistic limitations, she also yielded to behavioural rules & regulations. -- pearls were only allowed to talk whenever spoken to, were supposed to listen to verbal & gestural commands [an example for a keyphrase being “that will be all” followed by clapping twice]. -- this usually led to Pearl developing the habit to silently stand in the background, waiting for a command or anything similar.

The first alteration to her common manner of articulation was made after being handed to Pink Diamond, approximately 1500 years after her emergence. Pink often asked Pearl questions & encouraged her to speak up whenever she felt the need. It took Pearl several years to actually do so. -- eventually, in an attempt to “make Pink happy” she unsolicitedly, on her own volition, suggested interstellar travel; Pink Diamond rejoiced & believed she had finally gotten through to her silent & dull “companion”. Things did not progress much further from there, however, even if Pearl started adapting by learning how to use the pronouns “I” & “me” instead of constantly expressing herself through referring to Pink as “her diamond”.

2) LIFE ON EARTH / THE GEM WAR. partially in an attempt to further adjust to her NEW lifestyle, Pearl started speaking more freely, allowing emotions to influence her pronunciation, developing her own, personal sentence structure & melody. Whenever Rose & her travelled to Earth together, Pearl grew more confident; instead of reverting to her head-voice, Pearl focused on speaking in a lower pitch, in addition to shortening words [i.e. negations]. Still, she hardly initiated conversations, waited for commands or questions, sometimes fell back into old habits or apologized for “speaking out of turn”. However, shortly after the outbreak of the rebellion, Pearl started to ramble more frequently, laughed & learned eagerly. -- it was difficult at first & required a lot of concentration & new-found strenuousness but she managed, at least in a certain scope, eventually.

Upon meeting other Gems, things grew more complicated & complex. At first, Pearl was usually assumed to be Rose Quartz’ personal servant & thus addressed as such. This proved to be an issue that triggered Pearl’s programming & basically erased what progress she had made so far. While she could speak more freely with Rose, the stress that other gems evoked caused her to go back into servant mode, forcing her to silence herself to prohibit any personal “slip-ups” that could have led to her revealing Rose’s & her status. -- she had never learned how to talk to any Gem aside from other pearls or diamonds, leaving her with no other choice than to relearn how to properly react & respond to people in specific social scenarios. To overcome her conditioning’s interference & personal inability to muster up the nerves to actually converse, Pearl spoke in a strictly monosyllabic manner at first. “Yes”, “No”, “Okay”, “So?” “What?”, “Go there”, “Negative”, “Positive”, etc were commonly the only words others would come to hear. -- either that or she did not say anything at all.

-- --. Needless to say, part of Pearl’s status as “Terrifying Renegade” came from her being perceived as mute, usually glaring at whoever happened to be in her proximity, rather letting her deeds “do the talking”. While people never truly expected a pearl to speak, it was the way she carried herself, the way she poofed / shattered enemies seemingly out of nowhere before disappearing again that struck fellow rebels & Homeworld soldiers with fear. -- instead of a soft-spoken, demure “yes, my quartz” other gems would hear gruff retorts or receive nought but a long, direct stare. -- needless to say, many perceived that as quite unnerving.

In truth, however, Pearl had troubles rearranging her sentences, ever afraid of "messing up”. Speaking had suddenly become a fight of its own; on the one hand, she fought her programming by not only speaking out of turn but also by using words & phrases she was not supposed to use, addressing Rose not as DIAMOND but by her NAME or as LEADER OF THE REBELLION while on the other concentrating on using the right pronunciation, taking the pitch of her voice, sentence melody & social etiquette into consideration. Most of her attempts came out languidly spoken & overcautiously phrased; Pearl had to completely remodel EVERYTHING she knew whilst constantly biting her tongue whenever the urge to be “just a pearl” arose. -- most of her learning process consisted out of observing other Gems & listening to their conversations, through reading, or having Rose teach her specific vocabulary during sword-fighting practice. Due to this, it took her quite a while overcome her emotional limitations, her fear of failure, & the ongoing inner conflict which the very situation had inevitably set free.

3) POST WAR / SHOW-CANON. at this point in time, after approximately 1000 years, Pearl had come a long way. Her affinity to pay close attention to every spoken word led to her developing quite the pristine grammar & a low-pitched voice alongside quite a lively tone. Nowadays, she usually speaks rather formally, using little to no abbreviations unless she interacts with people she knows [such as Steven, Garnet, Rose & Amethyst]. Additionally, she has a hard time keeping her sentences brief; she rambles, & joyously so.

Yet despite all of her improvements & pride, most of her “lofty” & eloquent talk is deeply rooted in a certain hyper-awareness & a terrible fear of “messing up” or falling back into old patterns. Even if she has long moved past the servant phase of her life she still feels like she has to prove that she is as smart as anyone, that she is not “just a pearl” but in fact as good as any other gem. Her urge to earn validation makes itself known in various situations, often subconsciously coercing her to “show off”. -- her desire to constantly share what she knows, her patronizing manner of addressing / calling out mistakes or correcting “grammatical flaws”, her seemingly neverending ramblings; it all ties back to her past & having been confronted with her status throughout her entire life.

While she is quite GOOD at covering up her insecurities through partially “faked” bravado, her inferiority complex often shows whenever she is agitated or emotions get the best of her. In the worst cases, her nervousness & emotional instability makes her speak faster than she thinks, lets her stumble over her own words, has her trail off, swallow vocals & consonants or have her at a loss of words. It makes it harder for her to express what she means, pushing her into this unbearable situation of not knowing how to continue or what to say; she loses her red thread & tries to save face by fleeing the premise. -- it is something she hates but cannot really control.

Do you think you can write a fic where Neteyam's mate is a really good cook, and that she's really shy and gentle and especially likes to knit after learning about it from the humans? In this case, a few Na'vi woman (likely the parents) talk about how they can't believe the future Olo'eyktan just chose a mere cook to be his mate. (For some reason, I believe that discrimination against one another is common around Na'vi if they feel that person is unworthy of another) reader happened to hear it so she's been tired and distracted by it to the point she directly burn her hands with boiling, piping hot water that got Kiri worried but she quickly assure that it's nothing before proceeding to cool off her hands in the woods. This ain't the worst yet, the worst part happened when she witnessed Neteyam's presence with one of the Na'vi girl who's happened to be talent in everything, and that they look really great together. Reader at this point is depressed, she locks herself in with her human friends, ignoring everyone else. Neteyam's been worried about her, his heart broken entirely when he learnt from Trudy that his mate could only sleep if she feels accomplished of something she did in a day, so that Trudy, Norm, Max and the other scientists been trying to cheer her up. Neteyam asks to see his mate for a while, but Trudy push him back saying, "Kid, I know, this is not your fault. But it still happens because of you, so now, you're gonna be the one fix this up. It's not up to you, it's just have to." Leading Neteyam to head back to the tribe to figure out what's wrong, and when he learnt out that others been discriminating his mate (including the one his mate witnessed him standing with while they're actually just exchanging plans), he directly went straight to them and question and shut them down. After that, he continues to stay close around his mate, but never appears in front as she's still healing, and that he doesn't wanna ruin it. One day, just one day, while Neteyam stands around a bit faraway from his mate, she calls her out, and says she wishes to see him. Neteyam hesitates, so his mate slowly approaches him, he didn't back away as she lays her hands on his face, whispering, "I'm sorry, Ma Teyam. " At this point, Neteyam's the one break down and he keeps apologizing to her and he finally realize how worse one's depression could be

Now this is getting too long and detailed, but it would really mean the world to me if you could do this🙏🙏🙏 You can decide if u want to make it a series or just one shot where Neteyam & his mate confessing and apologizing to each others. I just want some angst -> fluff happiness. Tq!

it wasn't anything unusual. the sly articulation in their voice as they subtly comforted you for being ordinary when you announced an accomplishment, rather than celebrating with you. it was why you stopped making an effort at making friends.

you weren't particularly dependent on others to provide you happiness but at times it got slightly irritating.

"this does not look right, trudy" you pouted while looking down at the gooey, buttery mess you had concocted in the mixing bowl.

trudy was your only friend really. she was the only one that made the effort to connect with you and was the only one honest. she introduced you to max and norm who welcomed you with open arms, unlike others.

she tsked and looked up at you, "why are you questioning it? just keep mixing" she chuckled and you rolled your eyes, an action you caught from trudy's body language that you had assumed was to express annoyance.

she would constantly visit you in the forest whenever she was assigned a "mission" and would subtly drag you back to the base to teach you new things.

once you had entered her room unannounced and you caught her sitting on norm's crotch. Not understanding the peculiarity of it, you continued your rant about how you had tried baking banana bread for the 6th time and could still not get it.

"Jesus, close the door!" she yelled before falling face flat on norm's chest, you was very obviously embarrassed.

later on she went to explain that knocking is a very important gesture, a gesture of respect. and you surely took note of that as you did it on every closed door.

"it's open!" trudy yelled from behind the door and confused, you knocked again as you were sure the door was still closed. she kept yelling commands from the other side of the door but you answered with a knock on every single one.

she finally appeared in front of you, opening the door with force.

"I told you to come in,"

"you also told me to knock," you answered and her face fell on to her hands in helplessness.

trudy helped you carry some knitting equipments piled up in a wooden basket into your hut in the middle of pandora as you had picked up knitting as a hobby.

"thank you trudy! will you come back to see what I made?" you excitedly clapped your hands as she set the basket of stuff onto the floor.

she laughed and comfortably placed her hands in her pockets, "I assure you ill be there, bro" she said and you quirked your head to the side in confusion. bro? "never mind," she shrugged off your confusion and at that exact moment the flap of the hut was lifted and the room suddenly got brighter.

"hey trudy," neteyam's voice projected towards where you two were and his hand wrapped around your waist instinctively.

she lifted her head up and announced that she had to head home. when she left neteyam bent down slightly to place a kiss on your lips. his scent was filling your space very quickly. you put a hand on his chest, nudging him to back up.

"go," you pouted and he sent you a confused glare, his one eyebrow forming a funny looking line.

"thought you would be excited to see me," he looked away dramatically and you reached up to pull his lips back down to yours. pulling away you smiled at him.

"I have to plan a surprise, you can't see it," you chuckled and he nodded his head in acknowledgement.

"I see, well i'll be on my way then" he squeezed your hand once more and let go of you, exiting the hut. you hurried to open the bags up, pulling out knitting needles and some fabric. you made yourself comfortable on the carpet and relied on your muscle memory to guide you.

hopefully the lessons with trudy paid off...

you weren't even halfway done when you showed up at trudy's door, demanding for her assistance. she gladly took the needles in her hand, demonstrating for you.

you were sat in front of a window, chatting about various things, anything you should and shouldn't say. the needles were back in your hands and you smiled proudly at the piece.

staring back into the green, you played a game with yourself to spot neteyam. obviously, in the back of your mind you knew it would be impossible as all you could see was splotches of blue. but surprisingly, he was spending time closer to the facility so his silhouette was easy to spot from afar.

he was sitting next to a woman, who had her hand on his knee. she was laughing obnoxiously at something, probably not even that funny. neteyam didn't have a distinct expression, he was just sitting there listening to whatever she had to say.

were you jealous? yes. she was an attractive woman and if memory serves she is a very skilled huntress, unlike you who didn't have a particular skill.

"trudy open the sound system," you asked her calmly. the sound system was something she had put in place a couple of years back in order to be able to hear any unrecognizable sounds, perhaps from new species in the pandora forest. she could turn it on from her bedroom and could hear through a speaker every sound in the outdoors.

"kid, I dont think-" she tried to object but I quickly cut her off.

"please trudy," she reluctantly walked towards the switch and turned it on. a high pitched noise was projected across the room before a loud voice was heard from the sound system.

xura.

"my father would definitely be very satisfied," she rubbed his chest and batted her eyelashes. he stuttered as he tried to come up with the right words. she made him nervous? you wondered as trudy stood beside you, cautiously watching over your facial expressions.

"I can't do that xura, im with y/n." he whispered to her.

the woman tsked, "does she really strike you as someone that would go to a festival? all she does is stay at home and bake. she doesn't even make time for you. but I can, and I need you tonight" she said while twisting one of his braids.

you turned to look at trudy, pointing at them through the window "why is he sitting there? letting her do this?" she shook her head silently, unable to give you a good answer.

"my father says I need to find a strong warrior as my mate, he would be so proud of me if I brought you. please neteyam, you are respectful and noble. can't you help me just this once?" her eyes softened as she attempted to convince him to go with her.

the festival happened once every two months and xura's dad was the one that planned it. her family was known amongst the clan due to her father's military prowess and leadership. therefore, you were certain between you and her that neteyam would not even think twice...

she was a lot more talented than you, making her an ideal mate. like she said, all you can do is bake. why wouldn't he choose her?

you walked away from the window, sitting down on trudy's bed. she took that as a sign to turn off the sound system and suddenly silence filled the room.

she cleared her throat "kid, ignore all of that. its just her jealousy peeking through, you know what she said is not the truth,"

she sat beside you and you turned your head to the side, not wanting her to see the tears building up in your eyes.

"name another talent trudy," you chuckled sarcastically.

"oh cmon kid, you have an incredible voice and your dancing skills are fire. you would steal the show at the festival, trust me" she chuckled and nudged your shoulder.

you finally turned towards her, eyes red. "I wanna stay here tonight,"

you fell into her lap and she held you close, "oh kid, whatever you need"

I am proposing another Rise Separated AU that I wanna call the uncommon swaps. Here’s a little about my (probably not going anywhere) separated AU.

Starting with Donatello:

-raised by Splinter as an only child. Splinter doesn’t tell him anything about his brothers or his previous life as Lou Jitsu or Yoshi Hamato. The kid does not need to be burdened with problems he cannot fix.

-uses his full name. Doesn’t have brothers to give him any sort of nickname. Still meets April when he’s about 9, who nicknames him Don. They are BFFs.

-feels alone a lot despite always having his dad and April (who’s often at school). Builds himself little robots to keep him company and absolutely unhinged projects because he has no one to stop him. He keeps them for himself and has not had a reason to use them yet.

-still trains in ninjutsu. He uses a wooden staff until he makes his techbo.

-has this belief (after performing an at home DNA test from an ancestry kit) that he was once human like Splinter (he knows Splints was once human but not who he was) and was mutated somehow, but he doesn’t get any answers. Wants to be human.

-when he’s about 11, he creates some kind of machine, excuse, or disguise allowing him to go to school with April.

-Splinter, using his plentiful stealth powers, is still keeping a watch out for the other turtle boys, hoping they are not in the hands of Draxum and his evil plans.

Now Leo has been scattered around the most in these AUs, so this is just my favorite option-Leonardo, now named Prince:

-raised by Big Mama. She sent Gus after the two gargoyles who stole her champion (and love of her life), who followed them back to Draxum’s lair. Gus brought back Leo, who was a tiny, very scared little turtle. After a report from Gus, Big Mama put two and two together and realized this turtle had been- mutated from her champions DNA.

-At first, Big Mama had no feelings for the turtle and kept it to teach Draxum a lesson about stealing from her, leaving the turtle in a tank on her desk while he was still tiny and small. Eventually she put him in training, where he showed great talent. And after Leo started talking his way out of training and up to see Big Mama, she really started taking an interest.

-Prince is an excellent manipulator and blackmailer. He used to sit in meetings with Big Mama where he was asked to put on his baby charm and it would get people to make deals with them.

-Prince dual wields Katanas

-Prince becomes her child. And she starts to see Prince as the potential future she could’ve had with Lou Jitsu if her commitment issues hadn’t caused her to make him fight in the Battle nexus. She tells Prince about his father, the champion, and some stories about their time together.

-Prince becomes a hidden city celebrity, making ads for the Battle Nexus and doing various deals for hidden city company’s including Huesos pizza joint. And eventually, when he’s deemed old enough and talented enough to not get mangled, Big Mama allows Prince into the Battle Nexus as her next Champion.

Next up is Mikey:

-Mikey and Raph were taken by Draxum, until Raph decided to take a bite of Draxums hand and he dropped the Box turtle on his shell and down a drain pipe that led back to the surface.

-Mikey was found by a little girl with a spicy attitude who was about 3-5 years old, who decided to keep the weird looking turtle.

-When the girl was 7, she signed up for every clan in New York and was accepted into all of them, choosing to join the foot clan. She took her turtle, who was now like human baby sized and starting to talk, with her.

-In the foot clan, they were only known as foot recruits. But Casey and Mikey (not short for Michelangelo) gave each other nicknames.

-Mikey isn’t a known Hamato, but his potential was present in every bit of training they did. He stood out amongst the recruits as a special case, but he’s not treated like anything special.

-Mikey prefers Nunchucks, with the little blades attached to them. He knows the foot clan portalling ability just like Casey

Now it’s Raph’s turn:

-Raph was taken by Draxum. He cursed the loss of the Box Turtle and the others, but he was glad he had gained at least one, and the one he expected to be the strongest.

-the experiment had been interrupted half way through, and he had not expected them to still be baby turtles. Still he thought it for the best to be able to train and grow the turtles he wanted.

-Draxum isn’t good with names, so he put that task on Hunnin and Muggin who wanted to name him something cool. They thought Blaze or Jax. But though Spike seemed fitting.

-Spike grew up with a soft heart and mild anger issues. Draxum used his soft heart to tell him about the threat humans posses to Yokai kind. Spike got to know a lot of hidden city Yokai.

-Spike is very protective of Yokai and really does believe the humans are a threat. Known as the Hidden City protector. He’s a bit of a vigilante in the Hidden City.

-Spike is a little spoiled. Draxum gives him whatever he wants especially when he’s a good boy. He hasn’t had many bad experiences.

-Spike thinks of Draxum as his father, but Draxum prefers he doesn’t call him that, having Spike call him Master, and address him as sir. Draxum does feel fatherly toward Spike, and is very proud of the warrior he’s made. Despite his plans coming to a halt those 13 years ago, he’s built up quite nicely and believes he may have a chance at beholding the support he needs to eradicate the humans.

-Spike uses the mystic Tonfas

Some extras:

-Spike knows about Prince and vise versa, but they’ve never met. Draxum and Big Mama do not allow it. They have beef.

-The brothers do not think they are brothers. Except Prince thinks Don is his twin when he discovers who his dad is.

-Splinter has a box that is filled with the other boys weapons.

My mind is actually running with ideas for this. I can already imagine how they all meet, and what there interactions are like. So let me know if you want to hear more about my uncommon swap au.

So… has this been shared here yet? Or it's the kind of thing all the Alma haters who plague this fandom don't wanna see? :)

If you like Jared Bush's tweets, take this one: Alma wasn't as stern before Mirabel's failed ceremony, what happened that night scared the hell out of her and she changed after that. Also: before that, she was probably starting to put more pressure on the family. She was starting to, when she was on her sixties. And that's probably because she was getting old and anxious towards the survival of the town and the miracle after her death. So no, I'm sorry, she wasn't a horrible monster who abused her family and destroyed their lives since her children were five years old. Big surprise, people grow and develop and change all over each stage of their lives. The 25yo Alma wasn't the same than the 40yo Alma, and that wasn't the same as the 65yo, as well as none of them was the same as 75yo movie-Alma. All of them were traumatized, but that trauma manifested in different ways throughout her life, with different kinds of attitudes, responses and reactions.

Are you going to take this as canon or are you going to ignore it?

Ok, good, let's discuss this further under the cut.

Look, I love Bruno, but all the Bruno-groupies out there idolizing his character and demonizing the rest of the family to defend him are getting on my nerves.

I wish you could understand something: Alma is a woman traumatized by a forced displacement, which means she and the rest of the town fled their home and were chased, hunted, by their attackers, some of them (like Pedro) hunted to death. And that kind of experience generates PARANOIA. When Bruno says "everyone always assumes the worst", he means everyone (his mother included) who asked him for a prophecy always ended up focusing on the bad side of whatever he saw. Why? Because that's what paranoid people tend to do, and the whole Encanto is full of paranoid people.

Visions are things that must be interpreted, not a detailed thesis of you future. If you're already expecting disasters, you're gonna see disasters, and that was the reason Bruno was so wore out. Because gifts were supposed to help the Encanto, and at some point his gift started fueling the town's paranoia instead of soothing it. "My gift wasn't helping the family", come on, he said it himself! Of course it wasn't helping, because everyone was spiraling over their own fears, and he wasn't managing to help them. He isolated himself (literal words of Jared in another tweet, btw) because he was feeling like a failure, not just because the town folks were shunning him. And Bruno is a victim of the same trauma and the same paranoia, so he started spiraling over his own fears too, thinking he was bringing actual bad luck to their loved ones, to the point his mother had to beg him to look into Mirabel's future after her ceremony.

I've said this before, but I'll repeat it again: Alma asked him for a vision because she trusted him and his powers. She still trusted her son, she knew his gift was "useful", though not in the way Bruno wished it to be. Does that mean everything was fun and games yadda yadda in Casa Madrigal? NO, IT DOESN'T. Things were complicated and difficult, all of them had their own problems and worries, but it doesn't mean either every second of their fucking life was miserable and all of them hate each other. Alma failed to notice how conflicted her son was feeling, as she failed to notice how exhausted Luisa was and how repressed Isa was, because she had her focus on keep going keep going keep going keep going without looking behind.

Bruno left because he knew how Alma was going to react towards that vision of the miracle dying, because he knew his mother was paranoid, and that was going to hurt the family deeply. When Mirabel says "Bruno left because you only saw the worst in him" she's talking about this, about the use Alma did of Bruno's power without realizing he was breaking under the pressure of being the messenger of bad news. But that doesn't mean she hates her fucking son. Stop with the "everybody hates poor Bruno" thing, you're exhausting.

Let me tell you, as a woman with eight brothers, that relationships between siblings are a complex thing. You can love you siblings deeply and choose them over everything else, and STILL be aware that sometimes they can be assholes towards some things, and you can get frustrated with them, and you can argue, sometimes for real, sometimes just as banter, and two minutes later you both are laughing over some stupid family running gag you've been laughing at for 20 years, and that's it. It's not a black&white thing. So yes, of course the Madrigals would have a lot of happy moments in the forty years they spent together, and that doesn't erase in the slightest their pain, their struggles and their problems. That's just how real life is, goddamnit. And I'm saying this very aware of the fact that actual toxic families where everyone lives actively hurting each other exist, BUT that's not the case of the Madrigals, please, assume it and stop projecting your issues into them, because it's fucking obvious how much Alma, Pepa and Julieta love and miss Bruno in the movie.

Ok, my opinions about We don't talk about Bruno are too long, I'll reserve them for another post. But long story short: if you can't see that Pepa is telling you the greatest hit of her brother's gaffes, Dolores is defending him, Camilo is just joking, town people are being ridiculous and Isa is remembering his good omens, you're the one who's shitting on someone else without reason. I'll elaborate another day.

Also, THEY DON'T TALK ABOUT BRUNO BECAUSE BRUNO ABANDONED THEM AND THEY'RE HURT AF. "But Bruno didn't—" OK, BUT THE FAMILY DOESN’T KNOW IT. Probably, the reason because no one talks about Bruno is Alma; for her, remembering his absence must be like sticking a fork in her eye. She doesn't talk about her dead husband and she doesn't talk about her missing son. Period.

I hate typing on my phone but I'm thinking about Reginald again and wanna yell about him,,

The general fanon notions for his motives are either a) he cares about the Toppat Clan's safety first and foremost, or b) his motives are entirely selfish and he just wants power. I think that his true motives are actually somewhere in between, and something else entirely.

It's not just concern for the Toppat Clan, because when he betrays Henry, he doesn't mention anything about the Toppat Clan being better off, instead only focusing on his own gain, and because he's willing to surrender his own leadership to an intruder with unknown motives to avoid his own arrest.

At the same time, he isn't just greedy for power, because he's willing to accept Henry as leader if he proves himself worthy, even when Henry is entirely at his mercy and he could take back leadership with one simple hand movement.

So, what does Reginald actually care about?

I'd argue that the answer is security and agency, for a couple of reasons (included what I just stated above).

These two motives would explain why he's so desperate to take over and yet still allows Henry to take charge after proving himself. When Henry proves that he's capable of warding off a government raid, that gives Reginald his need for a sense of security, but being second in command means he still has some agency.

Take his Right Hand Man, for instance, who checks off both boxes. He's a loyal and dependable bodyguard who can easily take down most opponents (security) and will obey any order without question, assuming there's a reason behind it (agency).

Reginald is convinced he's unstoppable as long as RHM is with him, keeping a level head even in certain danger. Take RHM away, and Reginald immediately breaks.

I don't think it's even just cowardice, either. I'd argue that Reginald genuinely doesn't know how to take matters into his own hands instead of getting someone else to do things for him.

We know from Revenged that Reginald has two guns in his possession, possibly more, at least at the time of CtM.

But his only successful shot is when Henry has his back turned and is walking slowly. In other routes, he doesn't even try to use them, instead taking cover and telling Henry to do something in Toppat King.

Speaking of Toppat King, why did I say he keeps a sense of security by being second in command when Ellie is the Right Hand Lady instead?

I think he straight up didn't expect Ellie to be given the title of Right Hand Lady so soon after being recruited--she's just a new person that Henry decided to bring along. And I don't think he adjusted well to start.

It's important to note that the Toppat King ending narration takes place after a time skip--likely a lengthy one at that. He talks about everything in the past tense, and speaks of Ellie's promotion with a sense of warmth. He's even seen firing a rifle when he brings up his future with his Right Hand Man, without a hint of fear in his eyes.

And, holy shit, I suddenly understand why this ending ends on a time skip, and why this ending has narration when no other ending does, and why Reginald is the one doing the narration here.

Toppat King isn't just about Henry defending the Toppat Clan and gaining Reginald's loyalty. It's a prelude to Reginald discovering his own capabilities, learning to find his own agency and security without relying on other people or grasping for a rank to give him that illusion.

Could RHM being in the driver's seat of the car instead of Reginald be symbolic of that, perhaps?
