just rewatched catching fire and I couldn't help but think of how Finnick delivered his love poem to Annie in that Quarter Quell interview. It's canon that he intentionally said it's for his one true love but surely there are speculations to whom it was for, especially people who didn't know he's together with Annie.
Like if i'm a capitol citizen I would be FERAL on finding out who he was referring to. Just imagine the gossip running about with peeta's pregnancy announcement after it ended. Did you watched the interviews?? finnick is taken! Is it for a someone back in district four? is it another victor? oh maybe it's a capitolite! is it with a fan he encountered with at one time at that one party? or is it really just an act of some last fan service before the quell????
Imagine die hard fans analyzing every word he recited and coming to tiktok making fan theory videos "easter eggs found in Finnick Odair's Quell interview" lol

if you're wondering what the big deal is about the louis-philippe sentence in les misérables, it is, in the original french, 760 words long. the subject of the sentence doesn't appear until 95% of the way through, at word #711; the main verb is word #712. the sentence contains 91 commas and 49 semicolons and is almost entirely a list of laudatory adjectival phrases describing the erstwhile king of france. this is perhaps especially notable because les mis is, shall we say, not known for being particularly gung-ho about the monarchy.
this sentence copied and pasted into Word takes up more than one page single-spaced. in the 1800-page folio classique edition, it is fully two and a half of those 1800 pages. that means that les mis is 0.14% this single sentence. more of les mis is made up of this sentence than earth's atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide (0.04%). if the page count of les mis stayed the same but every sentence was the length of this one, les mis would consist of only 720 sentences total.
incidentally, guess who named hugo a peer of france 17 years before the publication of les mis?

Since OFMD let us down, sometimes I imagine this is Izzy instead of Cliff.
Just think how much conflict could have been avoided if Izzy had just been getting laid on the reg during season 1. 😔

When i was around thirteen, my dad got into this fit about how we (the kids) used too much toilet paper and cost him too much money. Of course, no one took the blame. So he came up with a fool-proof scheme where he divided a pack of toilet paper evenly between him, my mom, my sister, and me. Whoever ran out first would either have to pay something like ten dollars for another roll, or use newspaper until everyone else ran out. A totally reasonable and, might I say, non-abusive method of parenting in a household where everyone but you has a uterus that just shits out blood every month but totally reasonable.
Anyway, he ran out first. While me and my sister still had around half of ours left, each. He ran out during his morning poo and was furiously shouting. Accused us of stealing it. And when I tried to make him pay me for a new roll, I got in trouble and had to give some over, and that whole way of living never happened again. But imagine how he must have felt when he realized it was him. He was the problem.
happy fucking sunday

Fucks me up to think about how Legato's legacy in-universe after his death in Trimax (and presumably Tristamp) is probably gonna be how much he sucked and nothing else....
Like, nobody will like Knives but Vash will be long-lived enough to be able to eventually talk about his good qualities from when he was a child and his quasi-redemption in his last days. But who remembers Legato? Livio and Vash are the only living people with any extended memory of him and neither of them would have anything nice to say (and rightfully so). Neither of them probably knew he was a slave, either—as far as Vash can tell this dude showed up one day and hated his guts, for all he knows he's just another survivor from July! Outside of Knives, Elendira, Legato, and maybe Conrad, I don't think any other character knows his actual life story.
And to add on to that, there's no way of looking up that past either—he had no name or personhood before he was effectively rescued, so who could investigators or reporters or archivists track down for information? The human being that was Legato only existed for as long as he knew Knives, before that he was something to be kept and abused as an object. There's presumably no surviving family they can reliably contact, nobody to really say "yes I knew him, here's what his life was like, here's how we can prevent something like this from happening again".
His entire existence will be reduced down to "a human weapon that was freakishly loyal to public enemy #1" without any reflection on the mechanisms that made him the way he was because there's just no actual knowledge of his life.
