Hello everyone!

Seeing as the festive season is almost upon us, I thought I'd do a little something special for the month of december, leading up to christmas. Since I'm unfortunately pretty busy with uni and other life stuff, I wouldn't manage to post something every single day. That's why, starting either December 1st or 2nd, I'll post something every other day. That could be an edit, fanfic, etc. What exactly won't be revealed until I post it - that's why I'm calling it an advent calendar/12 days of Christmas.

On top of that, I would love to spread a little positivity in the fandom (the holidays can be a difficult time after all).

My idea: 24 days of Appreciation

Every day, I want to highlight different people who have contributed to making this fandom the great place that it is. Those contributions can be great fics, edits, gifs, fanart, memes, whatever you can think of. This can be used to highlight specific works (your fav fic or edit for example), or the entire blog and person. It can also be used to shout out people who are mainly here to support and consume - because those people are of course just as valuable and important!

And because I don't want to limit this in any way to just my little bubble on here I strongly encourage everyone to submit anyone or anything they want to show special appreciation to! (either through ask or dm, anonymous or not). You can write as much or as little as you want about who/what you're appreciating, and I'll compile any submissions I get in daily posts.

Also: this is christmas-themed because I celebrate christmas (though not really in the religious sense) and I love the festive season, but it should go without saying that this is for everyone, whether they celebrate or not. My only goal with this is to spread joy, and that joy is definitely not limited to a specific group of people. So even if you don't relate to christmas at all, I still encourage you to take part!

Obey Me! Card Planning Tips

Hello!  This game causes us all a lot of pain and suffering, but I’m MANAGING (?), so I thought I’d give what I’d consider some tips to maybe make things feel slightly more possible for you :)

I’ll split it into three parts and put it all under a read more.

Team Strength Calculation

General Tips for Resources and Daily DP

Part 1: Team Strength Calculation

Each stage has 2 sins tied to it, as you’ve probably noticed.  In chapters 1-20, the stats of these two sins are boosted for ALL cards (character and support) by 15%.*

In chapters 1-20, your team’s strength is calculated with the following formula:

Strength = 1.15(AttributeSin1Total) + 1.15(AS2Total) + Other5SinsTotal

For example, let’s look at Lesson 10-20, which is a Gluttony/Lust battle.  My team is composed of Pandas Mean Profit (Greed), A Special Ceremony (Lust), and Colorful Panic (Pride).  And I’m using zero support cards just so I only have to add up 3 numbers.

Strength = 1.15(24338) + 1.15(34921) + 122736 = 190884**

Keep in mind that the buffs only apply to the attribute sin scores.  If the battle is Gluttony/Lust, the Pride scores will stay at their base values.  This is the case for all lessons up through chapter 20, both normal and hard mode.

However, from Lesson 21 onwards, there are two changes.  One, there is a primary sin and a secondary sin for each battle, marked by which icon is bigger in the preparation screen.  (There always has been, but now it matters which is which.)  In boss battles, both are primary.  Second, the buffs have changed drastically.

Every card has its main sin, obviously, and its strength in that sin is the strongest.  However, they still have strength in the other 6 sins as well.  There are two non-main sins that a card is very strong in, two that it is average in, and two that it is terrible in.

The percent increase is now dependent on how good a card is in the battle's two attribute sins.  (Remember that these buffs still only affect that sin, not the card’s total strength.)

If a card is the same sin as the battle’s primary sin, that sin gets a 160% buff

If a card is the same sin as the battle’s secondary sin, that sin gets a 90% buff

If a card’s second or third best sin is the battle’s primary sin, that sin gets a 30% buff

If a card’s second or third best sin is the battle’s secondary sin, that sin gets a 10% buff

Any sins lower than third best no longer get a buff

I’m not going to make a formula this time because it’s too long and situational.  But let’s look at that same 3-card team again, this time with Lesson 21-5, a Lust/Gluttony stage in that order.

Pandas Mean Profit has an average Lust score, so it gets no bonus.  Its Gluttony is its 3rd best sin, so that gets a 10% buff (10752 > 11827)

A Special Ceremony is a Lust card, so its Lust gets a 160% buff (17308 > 45000).  Its Gluttony sucks, though, so that doesn’t get a bonus.

Colorful Panic has Lust as its second best sin, so it gets a 30% buff (10423 > 13549).  Gluttony is its third best, so that gets a 10% buff too (9866 > 10852).

With the new system, the team’s Lust score has skyrocketed from 40158 to 65739.  However, its Gluttony score dropped from 27987 to 26399.

This means that the sins of your cards suddenly matter more in battle.  (And honestly I don’t think that’s a bad thing.  I know people complain that it makes it harder, but.  If my Comedy team in A3! is made entirely of Action/Drama cards with poor Comedy, I shouldn’t expect that team to do well.  Idk why people think that shouldn’t apply to Obey Me.)  Which brings us to part 2.

By the way, colored glow sticks raise the card’s total strength by 10%, and rainbow glow sticks raise it by 30%.

* It’s actually like 14.99% but it’s effectively the same.  The “slightly under but so close that I’m just rounding for significant figures” thing will be consistent for all of these buffs.

** The actual in-game strength is 190881, 3 points off due to the .99% thing.

Part 2: Team Preparation

I’m so sorry.  But someone has to say it.  Are you listening?  Great.

URs aren’t automatically better than SSRs.  Honestly, they never were.  They ESPECIALLY aren’t now.  You’re not losing the battle because you’re using SSRs.  You’re losing the battle because you’re throwing Wrath cards at a Sloth opponent.

Morning Voice is an Envy SSR card.  My copy of the card is only level 10, and in a Lesson 21+ Envy battle, its Envy score is 6866.

What is my Level 90 UR Colorful Panic’s Envy score in the same battle?

3489.

Colorful Panic is a higher rarity and 80 levels higher.  It has worse Envy.  Why?  Because Envy is its worst sin.

Obviously you aren’t going to be using a level 10 card in a battle, so for a more realistic standpoint, my copy of Resentment Runs Deep (SSR Envy) has 46108 Envy in the same battle.  That’s 13x better than the UR.

I’ll repeat it one more time before I move on.  The sin scores of a card are far more important than the rarity of the card.  A random SR card of the right sin is better than a UR with no sin bonus.  The most impressive thing about a UR is how hard it is to get one.

Anyway, what does this mean?  Is it hopeless?

Well, if you wanted to binge all three seasons within the first month of playing, yes.  But let’s assume that’s not the case.  (Side note, but the feeling that our cards are never good enough is definitely exacerbated by the aggressive speed at which they release new lessons combined with the fandom’s apparent allergy to spoiler warnings, but that’s a point for another post maybe.)

Remember that having URs isn’t actually all that important.  Now remember the sheer amount of SSRs they release since they also aggressively release events.  Also remember that with every 10-pull, you’ll get at least one SSR+.  (Also remember to never do single pulls; they're not worth it at all.)  If you’re really struggling with a lot of battles, here’s how you can improve your scores while focusing on as few cards as possible.

Open an Excel document or Google Sheets page and make a chart that looks something like this:

Now choose a card you want to use.  Doesn’t matter why you want to use it, maybe you like how it looks, maybe you worked really hard to get it, maybe you like its ability, maybe it’s just your current strongest card.  I don’t care.  For my chart I’m gonna use Pandas Mean Profit because it’s really pretty and I got it from the 100-pull pity reward.

Look at your card’s top 3 sins and put them into the chart.  For the character cards, note who the card is, because you can’t double up.  For reference later, also note whether it’s 1st, 2nd or 3rd best.  (Be sure to do this through Contacts and not a battle so there are no buffs skewing the scores.)

Once that’s in, choose another card you like for a different sin and input that card’s top 3 sins.  Envy is still completely empty, so I’ll put Resentment Runs Deep in next.  It’s an SSR, but I really love the Refresh Team ability.  Do this for one character card and one support card of each sin at first, if you can.  It doesn’t matter what level they are right now.  Then fill in whatever blanks you have with cards that specialize in that sin.

If a sin comes up more than 3 times, keep whichever ones are strongest in that sin without overlapping characters.  Play around with it until you get something that works for you.  Keep note of the sins you’re lacking cards for.

Mine looks like this.  This chart isn’t perfect (if you look, none of my cards had Envy as a good non-main sin, and Pandas and Bunny have too much overlap for the same character), but it works as a rushed example.  I used the cell colors to mark the characters.

Are these the teams you should be using for each battle?  No, obviously not.  First off there’s no single-sin battle, and second off the game will still build the teams for you.

BUT, this greatly lowers the amount of cards you need to pour resources into.  Instead of 42 cards, with this chart I only have to focus on 18 cards in order to be guaranteed that all my cards get at least a SLIGHT boost in each battle.  The best-case scenario would drop it down to 14 cards.

Later on, once you’ve managed the cards on your chart, the next thing to do would be to find main sin cards to replace those that are only third best in their sin.  On mine I’d definitely focus on a Gluttony character card next, but in general Sloth is the one you want to be the most proactive about.

That should help you get through at least Season 2.  Season 3 is admittedly where the difficulty actually IS ridiculous, but Season 2 really isn’t as hard as we’ve been saying.  It just requires more planning than “the first three URs I ever got.”

I do still apologize for the resources and Grimm it’ll take, though :’)

Part 3: General Tips for Resources and Daily DP

This section is just some extra tidbits to help you have the resources to get cards and upgrade them.

However, events ARE good for farming Grimm, so it’s not the end of the world if you want every SSR.  The only issue will come up when you need hard mode items and never have any AP, but it’s manageable.

If you’re going to log in more than once throughout the day, you can do the 2-1 job distribution.  If not, do three jobs with one character each so you get the daily task done

To save money for leveling up your good cards, complete the devil tree daily mission with N-rank cards.

Use vouchers over DP whenever you can (and use Raven to get vouchers).  The 99 DP level-up sale IS worth it if you can afford it, because that’s like 50% off a 10-pull once you do two.

I’m not certain, but I THINK skill level also influences how often an ability activates?  I feel like my Lv 10 SSR cards activate often but my Lv 1 URs never do.  So if you’re relying on an ability, the permanent SSRs might be worth looking at over limited time cards.

Anyway, I hope this helps at all in our mutual suffering.

thoughts on penelope/dastardly for the ship meme?

I don't know if you speak about the OG or reboot versions (and Scoob!) but I have similar ideas for both anyway

My rating of the ship, 1-10, 10 being OTP and 1 being NOTP

3.5/10. Not a NOTP either and I see why people can ship it but yeah I don't ship it anyway

Whether or not I ship it:

I don't. Just Dick the 3rd using to crush on Penelope the 2nd and Penelope the 1st secretly loving Dick the 2nd. When it comes to Scoob! I maaay have Dick using to want to marry her but it was more out of lust and obsession mixed with ego, unsure yet if she was into him or not but in any case she told him no either because she was not interested or out of ego herself

Why do/don’t I ship it:

I was ready to maybe ship it but then not only I found about about Pandora which got me HOOKED even if I still HC Dick the 3rd used to crush on Penelope the 2nd and I do find reboot Petelope very cute, I then learnt about the lore and what kind of person Dick the 2nd is who cares only about himself (and it wouldn't be Dolores whom he seems to still regret to this day) and it would be fit and be toxic (even if Penelope the 1st apparently does secretly love him, she acts like a bitch to him as if she were petty it's not mutual). As for Scoob! it's just because she doesn't appear and if she did she would have been likely too young (I HC the one we see in concept is basically Penelope the 2nd and the one I talked about earlier would have been Penelope the 1st)

What made me start shipping it: (or if I don’t what could’ve gotten me to ship it.)

Reboot wise, if there had been not Pandora in the way who was THE obvious ship to pick, I was maybe considering it since I like their contrasting and fun dynamic. OG show wise, if they were less bastards to each other and could maybe have a dynamic like in the reboot. Scoob! wise, what I said already (age abd appearance at all)

How I would want them to ideally get together:

In AUs if those points were fixed maybe, though I will forever prefer Pandick

What I like about it:

Even if I don't ship it, again I love the contrasting dynamic between them in the reboot, she trying her best brcause despite it all she wants to be nice and does like it and no matter how much he denies he is ready to sacrifice himself for her and Muttley in an episode which proves he does feel friendship deep down, again Pandick is in the way but it might have helped me consider if I had not known about Pandora yet. Scoob! wise, it would have been hotness lol but we can't know how old she would have been (I do have age gap ships but that Scoob!Dick doesn't strike me as into younger people in my HC) and how they would have interacted. OG show wise, no idea, I just find it super ironic and funny the bitch was into him the whole time but I don't know what I would have liked contrast and irony (the modt loved X the most hated racer) aside

What I don’t like about it:

The remaining. As said for the reboot I prefer Pandick and Petelope, for the OG show it would have ended up toxic at one point or another because they are assholes, and for Scoob! we don't know more. WE DON'T TALK ABOUT WACKY RACELAND WHERE DICK STRAIGHT UP TRIES TO SEXUALLY ASSAULT HER

What I like about the fandom/fancontent for it:

Most art is cute I can't hide it, it's for it I was actually considering it and made my Scoob! HCs (and for the fact he had a cop disguise looking like her lol)

My pet-peeves when it comes to the fandom/fancontent for it:

Not their fault since it's not very known and if they do use the AU card it's perfectly alright, but usually people who ship the OG ones don't know for the reboot lore where Dick the 3rd is the OG one's son he had with someone else and thus Penelope there is probably the 2nd too, nor lore in general like Dick the 2nd only loving his ex Dolores but granted it is not a canon source just something I keep personally in mind. As for those who ship the reboot ones, nothing much but there is ONE Instagram account in particular that grinds my nerves for how much they keep trying to push their RP-type comments talking to themselves or to the one starring in the picture and shippy headcanons under a lot of Dick or Penelope-related pictures

I don't think the ship is popular enough to have popular counter arguments, but I guess most people agree "Dick would be an asshole" which is right, but forget OG Penelope would be since we do see she is incredibly toxic to her suitors in general, by being an asshole to her dude is escaping a potential red flag

Just curious: what was your trail of thought to add Anthropology to BehindHeaven? Not complaining, I legit cheered when I heard it, but it's a really... niche song to use, and it stands out when surrounded by all the mainstream memes.

Well, I used it first in Behindtale, which was put out a year ago, so I’ll discuss the reason for that one.

1st thing is that Dummy! is in swing time, which limits the number of songs I can use since swings aren’t very common compared to straight eights (that is NOT the official musical term, nor is it my description of the Jonas Brothers). So that in itself narrowed the pool

2nd thing is my usual criteria for mashup albums, especially character themes. I try to get a good balance of A) Does this song sound good as a mashup? B) Does the song chosen reflect the character well?

So I was working on Behindtale when my half-annual “yo remember how much brony music slaps ass and how there was so much good music?” kick happened, and I remembered Anthropology. It’s a song that’s in swing, has an almost ragtime piano line in the background that wouldn’t be obstructive if placed in a mashup (I didn’t have PhonicMind to isolate vocals at the time), and is about a pony who wants to be a human. The comparison wasn’t 1 to 1, but hey, Mad Dummy is a dummy that wants to be corporeal. It tracks well enough.

Also as an aside, Anthropology is probably the best song to come from the fandom. Fun fact is that it’s the only song that I can play confidently on the piano.

1. Garak/Bashir (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) - A recently discovered ship

When I say ‘recently discovered’, I mean until last night I’d literally watched like 2 episodes of DS9 in my life and had no idea who these characters were. Yesterday evening I just happened to see a post about the What We Left Behind documentary that prompted me pull up DS9 on Netflix and look into things for myself. According to the post I saw, the crew and actors of DS9 had toyed with the idea of making the couple of Garak/Bashir canon but weren’t willing to “push the envelope” back in the 90′s.

So after watching some key episodes featuring the pair, I gotta say I’m honestly surprised how much “subtext” still got through back then. Scare quotes around subtext because uh...the sexual tension and romantic overtones in their conversations and interactions are pretty blatant to me. And although they’re never technically enemies at any point, I do like there’s some (justified) suspicion from Bashir toward Garak in the beginning that gives their relationship room to develop over time.

Honestly, as much as I love Star Trek TOS & TNG I’ve never really given DS9 a chance until now, but between these guys and and other characters like Quark, Odo, Kira, and Sisko, I think I’m hooked and will be binging the whole series here soon!

2. Zuko/Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - Ship from a fandom I’ve been active-ish in recently

So I recently rewatched ATLA and fell in love with its universe and characters all over again. My favorite ship has always been Zutara since I first saw the show several years ago. They both get a lot of personal and interpersonal development over the course of the show and have a great dynamic between them by the end -- and again, I admit I’m always a sucker for ‘enemies to friends to lovers’ ships so there’s that lol.

No hate for the canon ships in ATLA, even if I don’t think those were always handled the best, but Zutara is just my personal fave. My fave canon ship is probably Sokka/Suki :)

3. Bones/Spock (Star Trek: TOS) - Longstanding OTP

Like most folks, my first TOS ship was Kirk/Spock (and I still love them), but Bones/Spock is probably my favorite ship across all the fandoms I’ve been in. I can’t nail down a precise reason -- I like their bickering, the fact their conversations range from petty snarking to legitimate philosophical debates, the ‘we’re not friends but I’d totally die for you’ attitudes from both of them, & their juxtaposition as the id and superego of the TOS triad among other things. 

Of the 3 ships on this list, this is the only one I’ve actually ever written fanfic for, though I never posted any of it online back when I was active in the fandom. I dunno if any of my Star Trek content will ever see the light of day tbh lol.

I think the reason Spones is ultimately my OTP over K/S is a) I’m partial to rival ships, and b) I’m partial to Bones as a character -- love me that sassy Southern doctor with a heart of gold, man.

i saw a few people that i followed reblog some art of season 5 (which im glad i did not remember at all because i technically didnt get spoiled because i didnt remember what i saw) and because the art made it SEEM like it was a series finale so i was like “oh fuck better start now it looks interesting” even though all of the months before that when i saw tma art i was always like “ugh cool but looks stupid” but guess who’s the stupid one now??  🤡 🤡

The Lonely: What is your favorite TMA episode?

does it cheat if i count season finales?? whatevs im counting them: season 2/3/4 finales, mag 81, mag 101, mag 154 (everyone would know why because im pretty sure that’s when all of my tma mutuals saw the best of my tma breakdowns over that :^) ), pretty much all of season 5 so far tbh (mag 170 and mag 171 hold a special place in my heart however)

i know that this is really common in the fandom but i headcanon jon as autistic and as a result he’s hyper empathetic, and so being able to feel the terror and fear of people is made a lot more worse for him

honestly i know that this is a horror podcast BUT i actually feel like this finale is going to be a happy one and that jon or martin won’t die, i can already hear the crowd groaning and booing at me and being like “jonny sims won’t do that that’s too happy for a cosmic and psychological horror podcast!!” but i actually really think this finale at LEAST will be joyous, even a bittersweet ending i look forward too!

Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure Countdown S3

It's that time again! A new season is approaching us! And not just any season, this is our last season!

Just like last year I will be hosting a countdown for the fandom to participate in! If you aren't familiar with this event that the fandom did last year, here are the rules! Starting September 17th we will go through and recap all the episodes of the previous season(season 2) one episode a day at a time! You can make fanart, fanvideos, fanfictions, memes, gifs, or absolutely anything that is related to the episode of the day! You can even just post your thoughts or opinions about the episodes or your favorite things about them! And it all leads up to the premier of Season 3!
