Fresh is actually this little parasite controlling a host body. (if you didn't know that why are you reading this post rn!?! but nah I love new Fresh fans, welcome!)

The main parasite is this purple one with the eyemouth and four(?) tendrils, the other colored tentacles are prrrobably Fresh's offspring (freshmageddon moment?) (I'm not actually sure, I'm just pretty sure they're not part of the main parasite but are parasite tentacles)

I know I said I'd be inactive but I gotta rant like I'm at a point of pure rage and I'm not all the way sober rn. As a black woman? I feel betrayed. What happens when the internet becomes so overruled with censorship that we can no longer share information about the causes we care about? The police are already over militarized and the oompa loompa that's been put up in office is fully ready to grant them immunity, meaning they would essentially be able to do whatever the fuck they want to us without consequence.

I mean let's be fucking real that immunity is going to affect my community at a disproportionate rate just in case you guys already forgot what those pigs like to do to us. And my community is also that main group of people that is out on the street riding for everybody when there's an issue so what's gonna happen now? Hm?

Black women have been saying for a good while that we should vote for the candidate who will let us keep doing the work we're trying to do. The one that we would be safe protesting and organizing under so that we can make change both in and outside of our community, for example, actually putting third-party candidates in STATE GOVERNMENTS so that when actual viable third parties run, they'll have some chance in the presidential election. I kinda doubt there's any toxic dudebros on Tumblr of all places but I have seen some hate on Markcest here a little too so let's go.

Cutting off for the long post but it's fine to not like Markcest or think it's strange. It's not fine to act morally superior to others or call it incest as I will explain below.

Howdy hey, it seems like the fandom rn is pretty split down the middle huh?

One of the hot topics of debate is Markcest. To make this perfectly clear for those who may not know what it is, it's Mark x his variants, or his variants x eachother.

Some people take issue with this, which is fine, we all have personal preferences. I know I myself don't like Bakudeku, for example.

However, some people try to claim it's incest with two main claims.

1: They have identical DNA, so irl they would be identical twins.

2: They have the same sets of parents.

Let's tackle the first one. So, fun fact, identical twins don't...have to necessairly have 100% of the same DNA. They can, but it's not for all identical twins.

Plus, even given that they have identical DNA, I believe it's fair to assume that all the Mark variants lived exactly the same life until a moment happened that caused them to diverge and be unique in that way. Idk though that's just an assumption on my part though.

Identical twins, of course, are not going to be necessairly raised the same exact way and it seems odd to assume they would be. Idk this just feels like a dumb argument to me.

Also, the real equivalent to Markcest irl would be kissing a mirror. I do wanna preface that by saying that selfcest ships in general can be *made* to be problematic if the creator decides to. For example, 1 person could write a fic where they exist at the same time from time travel shenanigans or portals. Another could write it as though they were brothers or twins. That doesn't reflect on everybody who ships it.

Now onto 2.

Yes, they each have their own Debbie and their own Nolan (as far as we know). However, much like the Mark variants themselves, it's different versions of their parents.

The most clear example of this is when Sinster says he killed his dad. Of course, if Mainstream and Sinster were actually identical twins, than their shared biological dad would be dead. But, they're not, because Mainstream Mark's dad is of course still alive. Same goes for Debbie.

If we combine these two arguments together, they make even less sense because if you're biologically identical twins, I would assume you would have to share the same set of parents. If your twin kills their dad, you um. Don't have a dad either. And that's not how it works for the variants, as shown through Sinster.

Sorry for the long post, it's just really dumb to me.

Remember, don't harass anybody over Markcest or anybody attacking Markcest. It's um not that deep bro, lol.

People really seem to mischaracterise his character, (even I do it) I’m going to try and explain some stuff, I’m not the best at explaining but I’ll do my best.

Present mic has the black and white mindset, leading him to believe bad is bad, good is good. No in between, It is shown throughout the anime and manga that he shows no remorse or empathy towards villains. He would do anything to be sure villains get what they deserve whether that being death or jail, the main points to where this is shown is when he didn’t trust Aoyama and believed he should go to jail and in chapter 420 when he wanted to kill kourogiri despite him being his best friend. Now I’ve noticed that mic has been getting backlash for this, so I’m going to try my hardest to explain to why he would feel this way or act this way. It’s simple really, everything is just a trauma response.. he has buried all his traumas, been trying to hide from everything, In result of doing so he bottled up all his emotions and built this persona, the present mic we all know and love, happy, bubbly, loud ect. And it seems like all his bottled up emotions has turned into anger.

Now imagine having to face the traumas you’ve tried to burry and get over, forced to face it. It’s obvious that present mic doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions and uses aizawa as an distraction, he uses aizawa as a way to escape since he cares so much about how he feels,he doesn’t understand his own emotions but he can read aizawas like an open book, his mission is to keep aizawa safe and so he’s done everything he could and that’s mic and hizashi that does so. When aizawa isn’t there for him he does everything he can to not get lost in his emotions, he drinks, overworks ect. And that’s hizashi, hizashi yamada and present mic are two different people. But I won’t really get into that. Because he’s built up all these emotions, made this persona, buried deep all his traumas and then being forced to face the worse trauma caused him to snap, beacuse he doesn’t want this, this isn’t how things were meant to be. He’s lost the patience to just move on, leading him to be violent and aggressive. Even aizawa was shocked when he snapped and told him to shut up and calm down in the car scene whatever. He’s buried oboro a long time ago, still not being fully over it but trying to be for aizawa, being forced to face him again clearly had an massive affect on him and he’s still trying to reject the fact that oboro could possibly be a villian cuz in his eyes villains don’t deserve to be forgiven they are horrible humans and don’t deserve second chances and he doesn’t want to believe his best friend who talked and told him about the ways and how they’re all going to be heros together, be a villain. Causing him to snap, all his built up emotions, coming out. Causing him to violent, say stuff he probably doesn’t mean and take it out on those who don’t deserve it. To him killing kurogiri seems to be only escape, only way to run from his emotions, keep aizawa safe, run away from everything because he can’t deal with it. He just wants aizawa to be safe, he just wants things how they use to be, however I still believe mic is holding back, just think about how powerful this guy is, if he fully snapped and let out all the anger he would be dangerous.. the dude obviously has some kind of trust issues and anger issues, he’s said and done some villainous stuff, examples: when he wanted to beat up the reporters. “I’ll throw a surprise karaoke party and boil their guts as their eardrums bleed” (that’s all I could think off rn)

The reporters thing shows that once mic sees you as a villian it’s over, he wanted to beat them up just for trespassing, he did also say they’re kinda like villains. (We love love him for that tho) once again the way he thinks is mostly a trauma response, like aizawa.

as for the aoyama thing, I think he had atleast the Most reasonable response, I mean I know aoyama was forced but mic was Vaild for Not trusting him, and I think it adds to his character and shows More of his black and white mindset. And besides It wouldn’t really make sense If the guy who thought/predicted there being a traitor, to trust the traitor yk? Like imagine finding out one of your students helped kidnap another student and ‘works’ for the same guy who took your best friend, I would be pretty mad to😭 he saw him and aizawa in those kids and tried to protect them from what aizawa and him have gone through. (once again I know aoyama was forced��️) I personally believe Aoyama was forgiven too fast.

He cares so much about aizawa, more than himself. He would kill and die for aizawa. He needs aizawa to cope and forget about his grief. Without him hizashi would be an absolute mess, and tbh I wouldn’t be shocked if he killed himself if he were to live without aizawa.

Do you think that when he first came to the past from the future that he had a hard time measuring his strength? Having to rely on his strength and abilities to protect himself and to do Dialga’s bidding would mean he wouldn’t have ever had any reason to practice being gentle, right?

So what if the first few months of having to play the part of the gentleman and kindly explorer, shaking hands and interacting with others (picking them up when saving them, etc), he realizes how brusquely he touches them? Enough times if someone saying his grip is a little tight or he jostled them too much and such makes him realize he can’t just go full throttle because he’s a fully evolved and experienced and powerful Pokémon, these civilians don’t know what it means to survive in a wasteland where virtually everything is out to get you

…so, to conclude, how much gentleness does he learn by dealing with the hero and partner? I’m thinking of your riding on the shoulder and him carrying them around examples specifically but does he ever catch himself being harsh and they don’t even realize why (“haha, you’re crushing me! you don’t have to hold me so tight, you know, it won’t hurt me if I fall just from here!”) and he stops in dawning horror realizing that one day he’s going to have to hurt them in the end?

then he has to learn to be gentle all over again when he and the others return from the future—even more gentle and slow and careful this time—because now they’re afraid of him, knowing just how strong he is and exactly what he’s capable of doing to them?

I’ve already send this exact same ask to someone else before ((It was @//lopsidedghoul and It broke Its Inbox)), but have this anyways because I wanna gush about these things more but already basically wrote everything I could think of about It.

Anyways, behold me Info-dumping about this one random ass thing of Na’vi culture for way too long.

The Waytelem

Called Songcord In english.

There are, to my knowledge, two different types of Waytelem. The personal ones, as well as the communal ones.

Like the english name says, these cords are sung. Basically, different parts of the woven cord are different parts of the song.

These cords are the main source of record-keeping, similar to how we use writing ((because Na’vi don’t traditionally use writing)). This goes a lot more for a communal Waytelem than a more personal one, since those get buried together with the Na’vi they belong to after death.

The cords are made with all kinds of things, such as pieces of bones, wood, stones, feathers, fur, hair, and various other materials. These materials are then strung into a long twine or thread, making the Waytelem. These cords are expanded continuously, with every Important life even a new pice gets added to the cord. Every bead, pice of bone, and feather how some kind of meaning to the one the cord belongs to.

It’s not really known who constructs the larger communal cords, or how the process of making them goes.

When exactly one starts keeping their Waytelem Is also never mentioned, though they do start very young and their caretakers likely help the younger Na’vi with constructing them. The caretakers never make a Waytelem for their children, only ever help ((or at least I’m assuming that’s how It works, It’s never actually fully explained anywhere. I could be wrong, and the parents likely do make the beginnings but they’re child chooses what goes onto the cord)).

We know that Tuk, who Is 7, already has a Songcord, so personally think that a Na’vi child starts working on their Waytelem once they are old enough ((or ready enough, which might depend a bit on the child, but I don’t think they’re Is like a set age where It’s said “you are old enough for your Waytelem now”)) but the caretakers majorly help with the construction until the child can take over completely.

The exact significance of each piece on the Waytelem Is only known by the Na’vi It belongs to and the close ones they choose to share It with.

When a Na’vi dies their close ones sing the dead Na’vis Songcord at their funeral, after which the Individual gets buried with their cord.

Even though a Na’vi child’s Waytelem Is often short In length, when they ask someone to sing It to them the song Is often surprisingly long and filled with tales of adventures. A child’s parents may sing a bit of different version closer to the truth.

I just want to lead by saying ultimately I'm not the one writing so I don't truly care, you can and should do what you want. I just wanted to share some input because I have experience with poly relationships and also ask a question.

Why doesn't the V/Zero/MC triad poly work? If its jealousy the V-poly won't work either and if it's just V won't value or care about the MC very much a V-poly also isn't going to work long term unless the two of them never interact. V-polys in my experience only really work when everyone does love (platonic sense) and care about each other but maybe they just aren't all attracted romantically to each other or the ends of the V either just don't interact all that much or both have a large amount of emotionally maturity. Hence I don't see how a V-poly would work?

On the other hand a triad did make sense when it was framed as the MC being the one to help them open up and communicate with each other and is the one who makes that relationship work. Yes maybe V and Zero do love each other but that isn't enough to make a relationship work, they both seem to struggle with their emotions and communicating and equally they are both incredibly inexperienced with relationships. So, the MC who is presumably not emotionally stunted bringing them together and helping them communicate and handle their emotions both when getting out their feelings out initially, but also just in the relationship because none of the above is going to just change once their feelings for each are out there makes sense. Without the MC they would and should struggle a lot with a relationship because neither of them currently has the EQ or experience to handle the problems or tensions that might occur especially in what is no doubt going to be a stressful situation. Hence why having the MC be the one who helps ensure everyone's feelings, needs, and desires are heard, respected, and valued makes their role in that relationship clear and the value they bring to it clear and means that while yes V and Zero's relationship is different from the MC and Zero's or the MC and V's the relationship as a whole works in a way it fundamentally couldn't without the MC. And yes maybe eventually when they are older and more mature V and Zero would've gotten together on their own but as they are it doesn't make sense for them without someone there to help them through it because again neither of them has the experience or EQ to handle that if they did they probably would've been in a relationship by now.

Honesty boils down to Veronica/Vincent not being able to romantically love MC.

I’ve played around with different dynamics that keep V in character and it wasn’t working.

Zero doesn’t know that V has romantic feelings for them. They’ve been friends for 8 years; both of them think the other only sees them as a friend. Neither wants to “ruin” what they have by shaking that table.

What drives them getting together isn’t MC’s arrival, it’s the overarching plot that happens in those 15ish chapters (MC can help speed it along though).

V can have platonic affection for MC. It takes longer to get there than the others, but it is possible.

Is it the healthiest? No, I wouldn’t use it as an example of a healthily formed relationship. But it’s what we’ve got.

I didn’t like writing MC as the only reason V and Z are able to function as a couple/romantically. Some people like to be the mediator, but that sounds exhausting for a MC who has a main goal of staying alive rn.

Zero in particular is much more emotionally mature than I think you’re giving them credit for; they’re quite open and communicative. But again, they value their friendship too much with V to risk it (before the events of the plot)

In a triad, MC would always come second and it wouldn’t be genuine to call it a triad knowing that V doesn’t have the emotional capacity to romantically love MC.

In the v-poly, regardless of MC and V’s friendship of rivalry, both will compromise and find some level of common ground.

They don’t have to like each other, but they will come to respect the other’s relationship with Zero. It’s not a perfect V-type relationship, but unless there’s another terminology close to it, that’s the best way I can describe it.

Z and V will figure out their relationship problems, or they won’t. It’s their romantic journey, they don’t need anyone, MC included, to really fix things between them. Part of growing up is fucking up, you know?

They’re adults that, V in particular, have to either suck it up and address their issues or let it destroy something they care about.

So in a debate as to whether to keep the v type poly or eliminate both Z and V as ROs, I chose the v poly.

a general guide on how to research things online beyond just looking at a few tweets (this doesn't apply for every single thing you search but i hope it's helpful for anyone researching current events, history, science, or anything that's complex enough to warrant something more than a quick google search):

have inspiration for what you wanna research. doesnt matter where it came from it could be that random tweet you just saw! now, find a source that relates to what that inspiration said

find at least two more sources that are directly related to your first source. i like to use the "two is a coincidence, three is a pattern" rule.

examine the people who created your sources! who wrote them? are there any other prominent figures included? what are their credentials? what is their expertise? do they have enough experience in this topic to be discussing it? you can use these questions as a guideline but please please feel free to diverge. the main thing you wanna see is: is there anyone involved in this source who knows enough about this topic to be talking about it.

examine the places in which your sources are published! what are their biases? are those biases present in these sources? what type of information do they usually release? one question i like to ask is "how badly would they be fucked if they got a major fact wrong" this can range from a blogger who may get a few angry comments, to a writer of a huge news source who could be fired and not hired again for a similar position ever. this can help judge how important fact-accuracy is to that specific source.

☆ 3-4 are good steps to use google a lot, which you can honestly do in any of these steps but these particular ones lend themselves nicely to googling the fuck out of things.

5. analysis time! this is my favorite i love it but it can be a fucking pain especially when you're still figuring it out. basically what you want to know is what are these sources trying to do, what are they actually doing, and how do they tie together. sometimes this is really easy! sometimes all of your sources have the same overarching story, the same fact included, etc. however that's not always the case and sometimes you've gotta dig a little deeper to find those strong connections. and other times you'll have a source you thought was good but it just doesnt fit in, so it's time to scrap it and find a new one. this is your time to be super fucking nitpicky about details in the spirit of high school english classes.

6. now put all that together! you have your sources, you have overarching information you learnt, and possibly some specific information too! now you can share that if you wish or not share it.

"my guinea pig loving friend", you may be asking, "doesn't that mean I'll have less information to share"

abso-fucking-lutely it does, yet the information you do share will be a lot more carefully thought out and most likely better. every piece of information you share has the capacity to affect someone and being mindful about sharing proper info can reduce negative impacts. you will fuck up sometimes and that's super normal however you can avoid fuck ups by being careful about the information you believe and share.

I was wondering how you usually go about outlining? I’ve always been so terrible at it so if you had any advice or even just explaining the process a bit that would be lovely.

i'm actually probably a bad person to ask about this because i'm usually kind of awful at "outlining" fics in any definite way. however.... i do kind of have a process, it's just not usually a formal outline.

my USUAL process is to kind of just dump every thought i have related to a fic in a bullet point list that gets added to and subtracted from as the fic develops. if i have pm's with a mutual that inspired a fic, i'll copy paste those into the list to start. if i have ideas for scenes, i'll add those to the list. if there are irl quotes or events that are relevant, those also go in the list. from there, i'll kind of rearrange things in the order that makes sense (either chronologically or by "type" of thing - i.e. for the hollow hereafter, i had a section of quotes with sub-bullets that were just transcripts from each segment of media, then i had a section of "vibes" that were like "lando just wants it all to end, can't imagine ever feeling right again after how dramatically everything inside of him has shifted", etc). once they're in an order that makes my brain feel good, i put them below a page break and start typing actual sentences at the top of the fic in a blank page. then as i'm typing a fic, if i have thoughts about things i want to do down the line NOT in the scene i'm currently typing, i'll add those to the list too as not to disrupt the actual "proper" text i'm building. once i use a thought off the list, it gets deleted so i can see what's left in the bank more clearly. basically everything that is ACTUAL COPY I INTEND ON PUBLISHING gets written from the top of the doc down, then every stray thought i want to preserve gets added onto the bottom of the doc until i use it. there are usually like sections and sub-bullets on that list to keep things semi-organized.

when i DO outline more formally, such as dad lando, it's honestly kind of stream of consciousness. i started with rough, one-line summaries of what i thought each chapter might be (i.e. one was "first meeting", two was "start texting" etc etc until we get to "epilogue"). then i filled in in sub-bullets what i wanted to include in each chapter. some, such as "oscar meets emma" are like SUPER SUPER vague rn. like three sentences. some, such as "lando goes golfing with max" had really clear inspo in my head and are like two pages of rambling. because i felt strongly about how i wanted it to go, i just started typing in half-coherent sentences (honestly how i answer asks here sometimes? this is a good example of the flow i'm talking about). however, half of that extremely rushed, just-trying-to-get-it-down-on-paper musing about this golf outing is probably word-for-word going to end up in the fic because i just let my brain work. and that's how it works a lot of the time for me. i start typing thinking it's just going to be the gist of plot points, and it ends up prose i really, really like because i'm letting my brain work freely.

my MAIN advice for outlining based on my own learning curve:

write down LITERALLY every thought you have related to a fic. whether it's half a sentence, a guiding vibe, a real event that inspires you in ways related to the fic... literally anything. you obviously don't have to use it all, but sometimes those stray thoughts help re-center me when i get kind of lost in the sauce of a fic. when i'm stuck, i just scroll the list and see if anything sticks out to me to use or draw from to get me out of the block.

don't FORCE yourself to outline every moment or plot point. like i said, some of my dad lando chapters are really thoroughly outlined, some are suuuper vague. i didn't force myself to try and plan out any of chapter three bc i wasn't feeling particularly strongly about how i wanted it to go, and it just worked itself out in time as i typed instead. i've outlined what i've figured out, and i'm going with the flow with the rest. the outline mainly motivates me and reminds me what i'm building towards, ultimately, instead of dictating every little thing i want to include. i'm never afraid to say "and then ????? but they end up kissing" and revisit once the vibes have built around a moment.

may seem obvious, but outlines are not final. i've pushed sooooo much shit i meant to include in chapters one and two of dad lando to chapter four bc it didn't hit right when i thought it would. my outline for thh was like six times as long as the actual fic bc i cut out so much stuff i thought i wanted to use. outlines are literally just to keep track of thoughts, imo, and like i said, to guide you. doesn't have to be fully formed to be useful.

hope that was helpful!!! a lot of this is very very similar to how i used to process my research papers in college, so i've had upwards of like eight years now to refine my process and find what works for my brain specifically. so i guess last tip is just try different things and use what works and throw out what doesn't in terms of methodology. everybody's different!

I might be cheating a little bit but oMaM is feeling pretty good to me right now, granted Skyrim already has an existing world but I like to add in my own interpretation of the lore and certain areas and events so I'm counting that LOL

Probably the KNY Idol Au (although I still haven't published the fic LOL... it's only two chapters,,, so rn its still just a collection of ramblings and a few drawings)

34. What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life?

Uhh I'm not sure if this counts but I tend to project onto the main/POV character in what I'm writing, especially if its a fic of a character that I really like. So little random stuff will be actually stuff that I do. The most tangible example I can list off right now is in Liebesfreud:

"'You were just staring at your phone like you got some huge news or something. Did you win a Words with Friends game?' 'No,' Zenitsu said. He never won those. He was convinced Susan was a huge cheater."

I used to play Words With Friends a lot and I think it's funny to imagine Zenitsu playing it so that's like a direct nod to my real life/habits I suppose.

hmmmm i'm on ep 5 so far, but i can def see why some people didn't really like the season that much

it was... i think i have the same problem w/ it as with kinnporsche, namely that in theory it has all the good bits, but in practice, it just doesn't land. the pacing is kind of all over the place, some events are given way too much screentime, and overall the show is 6 episodes long but i often felt it was drawn out. like the nazi zombies. haha funny, but... what for, exactly? it felt like a bunch of loose ideas tied together with a string and a prayer.

we're also getting lots of flashbacks, and they're fun and nice to look at i guess, and you can't say that two beings older than the world should only be shown in present times now, but iiiii sort of feel that way anyway? it might be because i watched without subs or earphones so there were some parts i didn't exactly understand, but for example, what was the job story for? what was the edinburgh story for? they didn't feel like natural elements of the story but rather something that someone Came Up With To Connect The Dots And Fill The Gaps, and i don't really like when stories feel like they've been Written, you feel me?

and also. relationships. i just don't... really... feel... much... again, the Has Been Written problem. based on what i've seen, i thought ziracro, nina/maggie and gabriel jim/beelzebub moments would be peppered throughout all the episodes, that i'd see them gradually getting closer to their romantic conclusions, but apparently jimzebub is an episode 6 surprise, and the rest is just... there. nina and maggie have zero chemistry, there's nothing, really, in their interactions, and i've already seen metas about how it's to show that you can't make people love each other, and i mean, yes, correct, maybe it will appear so in the final episode, but so far it just looks like they didn't think it through. why is maggie crushing on nina? what does nina think about maggie, or her girlfriend, and if she's so controlling then why doesn't she just break up? sure, sure, "it's not easy to leave a controlling partner" but i don't want to Assume/Know that's the case, i want to see it! we could've had the girlfriend appearing in person, so that we could see how loving and caring she is, and then... oops, yeah, too loving and too caring, that's too much! but we'd have seen how happy nina was with her, and that it's not just a case of "she's just bad, dump her ass". now nina has been dumped instead, and i think i'm supposed to feel something about it? i'm not quite sure, but i don't. it just happened.

ziracro is similar in that yyeah, crowley's worried about aziraphale's safety, threatens jimbriel and it's very cool, but again, it doesn't land! their current times interactions are too scattered. if two guys who've lived for thousands of years are supposed to be figuring themselves out romantically now, then we should be seeing more of them in this now! continuing from where we left off in s1, having it acknowledged nice and thick so i could get my teeth into it properly! but instead i feel like i barely got a taste. if episode six is supposed to feature the kiss and crowley "preparing to confess his feelings to aziraphale", thanks wikipedia, i should be feeling it's a natural conclusion of the events! and i don't. i often need time to process what really happened in a show, or a rewatch, so maybe my brain's just overwhelmed rn, but what exactly did happen over the course of those 5 episodes that has crowley wanting to confess? too much side dishes, not enough of a substantial main dish, is what i'm saying.

and again maybe there's something wrong with me and not the show, maybe i've lost the ability to engage in new shows emotionally! (though i'm out there crying about atz fanfiction, so i don't know) but like. i can see the fanservice, i can enjoy it, i would've said it was fun -- not revolutionary, but then i don't think the show wanted to be revolutionary -- but it's also frustrating, in that i am cheap and yet it doesn't work on me. idk, man.

Ok, so I was working on the game design doc for the Protocreed game and rn I'm working on Prototype (since it comes first in the timeline of events) and while I was putting together the buttons for powers and how they work, I know that I want Alex to have more powers (Especially for stealth and consuming--being able to turn into objects while in bases so he can act like a mimic) but I didn't really wanna do anything to his original powers save for two things (since I was already going to add more powers):

1. make his attacks faster. while Alex can move in the air and on ground very fast, his attacks and devastators don't always keep up with his speed

2. expand what he can do with his attacks. The claws are a good example of a weapon that's really good early game and never again later on bc its not able to cut into infected armor or tank armor, the whip is also the same way bc while the streetsweeper attack does massive damage you can't just press "y" to do streetsweeper, you have to press "x" first then hold down "y" for maximum damage

Like. The first time someone plays the game, they only get access to the original powers and movesets bc its Alex's first permutation and therefore he isn't used to his abilities. But if you do new game+ this triggers the next permutation.

Not only that, but certain events in the game trigger the split of the timeline, not many in Alex's Prototype (since it's all about him coming to terms with himself and what he is) but the main divergence point is whether or not he ever manages to consume Dr. Mercer's brain (only available of you complete the entire web of intrigue) and what the player does with Cross (save him from BlackWatch captivity, leave him, or kill him) as this is what leads to Alex being able to get close to McMullen and Dr. Mercer's brain.

But anyways, I started thinking about this bc I was (again) thinking about the rules of Redlight, Blacklight, and the strains of Blacklight that Alex is. Especially after watching this video vs Elizabeth Greene

(deathcrow is amazing if you're looking for tips and tricks to properly be able to utilize Alex's powers to the fullest and move at damn near sonic speed, they're amazing)

Alex has full control over his virus, and is able to manipulate it in any way he so pleases, but the devastators take time as he is basically spreading himself all over. The thing is that it doesn't look like he's infecting anything even if he uses them, and Elizabeth Greene seems to infect everything she touches, like she literally oozes her strain of virus.

Elizabeth Greene on the other hand, is able to not only control those infected with the virus, but she's able to use infected flesh as an armor and then later...whatever that vagina-penis looking thing is that she's in control of. What's interesting is that she's able to generate massive tentacles that support the spinal cord, which isn't killed even after Elizabeth is consumed. Elizabeth is definitely dead after Alex consumes her but whatever that thing was that was the spine is absolutely still alive because it goes back underground.

Is that Redlight? Like the actual strain?

Elizabeth Greene seems to have retained her memories and possibly her personality as well, but she never claims to *be* Redlight, which makes me think the infection was working with her at her command until she was killed. Does that mean Alex has to consume the Redlight that's still alive in order ro get rid of it? Is that why even in end game, taking down the hives is only a temporary fix?

music theory rant, I talk about linnell in they might be giants:

anyway ive done a decent amount of music theory (western arts specifically bc I'm annoying, BRING BACK FUGUES!!!!!!) meaning one of lifes greatest joys is doing overcomplicated chordal analysis, and when most musicians use something cool from a theory perspective my mum always says its interesting how they wrote those songs without knowing "all that stuff", classic example is the beatles being very open in their hatred of music theory (minus george with indian music) and then coincidentally using modes (types of scales, specifically they used mixolydian and dorian most notably) which was initially a thing in mediaeval europe and predates knowledge of standard (diatonic) scales used today including the existence of sharps and flats. basically imagine a keyboard with no black notes because they literally havnt been invented yet. also it's an organ because pianos havnt been invented either

however ive been listening to a lot of they might be giants again and while linnell has said he hasnt studied theory outside a bit in highschool, he is clearly incredibly competent and has EXPLICITLY STATED his main passion for composing is melodies with a strong focus on USE OF SCALES, CHORDAL PROGRESSIONS & HARMONIES, AND MODULATIONS. like. in those words. that's my whole thing. you can find interviews where they ask about birdhouse in your soul and he just describes the modulations and their overall affect as part of the structure with the chords. it's a beautiful thing.

probably my favourite example of a song where he clearly utilises this stuff is purple toupee for reasons you can probably guess from this quote:

"it has a sort of fugue element where the bass part is doing the vocal melody in a... you'd have to ask a music major to explain this a little better, but it's doing a sort of canonic thing with the vocal where the bass comes in playing the vocal melody, down a perfect fourth but also two beats earlier"

if you're not familiar with fugues at all, toccata and fugue is the most famous and you've probably heard it (GO LISTEN TO IT!!)

the melody of the chorus also uses my all time favourite compositional device sequencing, which is how it uses a short tune (motif/idea) and repeats it moving down the scale (can also be done upwards) which I eat up every time I adore sequencing

using theory in a western art setting is super interesting hence why I studied it, and it's fun noticing things in different contemporary pieces, but there's something really special to me about having people compose using these ideas in such a loving and detailed and purposeful way that combines something as old (think 1700s) and insanely cool as baroque fugues with all the centuries of music and culture that followed and eventually lead to the prince songs that inspired him. isn't that crazy to think about ?? it's so incredible getting to look at music I grew up with after learning this stuff and being able to and realise and identity all the reasons I love it so much
