wei wuxian is the most dangerous kind of person. he's always like yes obviously i understand this information needs to be kept secret for strategic reasons. and then he immediately tells everyone he meets without seeming to realize this is at all in contradiction with what it means for something to be secret. like he does not seem to see the two things as related. i am keeping this secret, and i am also telling it to all my friends and enemies. see, i still have the secret! some other people also have it but that's completely beside the point.

About Eddie... I think we can have conversations about how the character's journey has been dealt with this season and overall (like what's been shown vs what's happened offscreen), or criticize how this trait of his was portrayed in this particular instance/episode,

but anyone who still doesn't see it as an established trend/personality trait, and/or is even wondering what Buck might have done offscreen to 'warrant' it (or instigate it, or provoke it, or...) really needs to put fanfic down for a bit and make an attempt at watching the show without fandom goggles on.

(Because Fanon!Eddie and Fanon!Buck&Eddie friendship are vastly different from Canon!Eddie and Canon!Buck&Eddie, and if we're discussing the show the former has no place in the conversation).

"If you want well-written women/queer representation/nuanced character arcs/less wish fulfillment/etc. just consume something other than shounen" completely misses the point of the original complaint. Like no, I don't just want representation. I want representation in shounen, the genre that I otherwise love but that never seems to respect people like me. And shounen can have representation. The idea that there's somehow a contradiction between those two things may come from a different place when it's shared by underrepresented people themselves, but it ultimately arrives at the exact same conclusion as anti-woke dudebros who think trans people and women existing is an assault. I have had too many other marginalized folks recite anti-representation, anti-diversification, pro-identity-based-gatekeeping arguments to me word-for-word without seeming to realize the logical end of what they're saying.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the new anime content they put into the training arc. We get to know the hashira's outside of life threatening situations, and we get personalities for some of the background corps members. I do think ufotable is extremely evil for that, because I just know they're going to make SURE that we recognize them once we get to this point:

I think it's a mistake to assume that computer generation (so-called AI) is the only manifestation of the exploitation that workers (especially in artistic fields that are already considered lesser) experience. The problems that they experience are, I think, exasperated by computer generation, but it isn't like there were no problems with compensation, theft, or other forms of exploitation.

The problem is the exploitation, and I think sometimes, people lose sight of that in these conversations.
