This fansite theme, is a single-column Tumblr theme with a left or right sidebar), and a Google font of your choosing. Full support of npf posts. to edit affiliate links you will need very basic html knowledge, but all is explained below and in the code. Everything else can be changed directly in the customization panel!

Read features and notes below the cut - please read through thoroughly before sending me a message with a question.

Basics:

Customize colours for dark and light mode

Select font-size (11-18px)

Select Post-width (350-540px)

Select photoset gutter (1-4px)

Select displayed tags or upon a toggle

Select post info displayed as text or icons

Toggle between sharp or round corners on content and/or photos

Note: Everything can be changed in the customization panel - EXCEPT for affiliates. You can toggle off/on each section of boxes

Navigation: An unlimited display of native Tumblr pages in the sidebar. Learn how they work in my FAQ here. Custom home archive + ask + submit titles in the top bar.

Sidebar Image: Choose between the sizes 100px,150px, 200px or 255px. Choose a shape between square, rounded, circle or blob.

Dark Mode:  If you decide to offer dark mode, it detects if visitor’s operating system is on dark mode, and displays that choice at the first visit - of course with the option to toggle the other mode on/off.

Change icons: in updates box / events box / social media in the footer, you can change the icons . Go to phosphoricons.com and simply copy the name of the icon like so, (into the in the corresponding text box)

Members box: Will update automatically as you add or remove members. To hide the apply-icon link, simply remove the text in the Members Apply URL text box.

Updates box: 4 updates, to hide one, simply delete the text in the field corresponding. To change the icons please see above.

Events box: 4 events, to hide one simply delete the text in the description box, ie. Event 1 Description. To change the icons please see above.

Projects box: 3 projects, with the ability to add more manually if desired. To do so, search for *PROJECT BOX TEMPLATE* in the code. To hide a project delete the text in the project title. An optional image for each project can be uploaded right at the top of the customization panel below Sidebar Image.

Affiliates box: To hide the apply-icon link, simply remove the text in the Affiliates Apply URL text box. To edit the affiliates, search for *AFFILLIATE SECTION* in the code and follow the instructions.

Quote box: the source text box is optional. and you can of course toggle off the entire quote section as well.

Site info box: the established date, founder and tracked tag is all optional.

Footer disclaimer: your disclaimer about the blog is placed in the footer of the site. alongside with the search bar, it isn't optional so please do fill out some information.

Footer social links: Upt to five links. To change the icons please see above under change icons.

Custom /submit page text: Here you can write about members/affiliate applications and such. Will only appear on /submit page. html and links allowed. Can be hidden if you simply delete the text in the corresponding fields.

Custom /ask page text: Here you can write a note for people sending asks. Will only appear on /ask page. html and links allowed. Can be hidden if you simply delete the text in the corresponding fields.

Other:

Via/source links are on permalink pages

author of who posted/reblogged the post is on permalink pages

to hide the archive link, simply delete the text in the field.

Submit-link and ask-link only shows if toggled on in your blog’s settings.

I am not reposting the art, I am reposting my own works for extra archiving, but in some cases art was embedded. Since AO3 doesn't host art, what I'm copy-pasting on Squidgeworld is the <img src="blabla.jpg"> link. The content itself is a clone of AO3, so I'm not hosting the art itself and I'm definitely keeping the artist's credits, the links to their accounts, etc in the notes. I mean, I may or may not have saved the art on my own private computer like I save lots of fannish stuff, but I am not the kind of jerk to repost it myself!! Ofc, some of those links are from private convos when the artist and I chatted on Discord/Tumblr etc, and the art link was sent there for embedding; the art was often posted on Tumblr as well but good luck finding an old public post I could source the art from, especially if the person changed url, deactivated, etc. Even those DMs can be lost.

I would have honestly thought the answer would be the opposite - beware for co-written fics, keep the embed for art since they were meant to go together - but I'm still curious to see opinions. How would y'all think if a co-creator reposted a co-created work while keeping co-credit, link etc but without asking (maybe it was years ago and you've lost means of getting in touch, and they couldn't ask)? The fics are up on AO3 under two authors' names, and I'm making a copy of my works on Squidge. I don't even know if some of these people are still in fandom, though I'll try to reach out.

My #1 post of 2022

With the rumors about Fanfiction.net potentially being abandoned, I decided to start grabbing fanfiction from the Thunderbirds fandom, which has 5.7k fanfics. I don't think I can save it all by myself, unfortunately.

This is a google spreadsheet I started, with very basic information on what I've grabbed and turned into PDFs. I've been doing the Print -> Save to PDF method.

If anyone decides to help, make a comment with the name of the fic, the author, the fanfic id number (can be pulled from the URL or the final detail listed after publish date), # of chapters, what format it's saved to and how you would want to be credited and I'll add to the sheet as I can.

I was writing one of those “let’s react to our show” stories and in watching the movie again I noticed the people who edited it fucked up the order of scenes. They went from Monday to Tuesday to Thursday then back to Monday and then finally to Friday. And I’m the only one who caught this. Or at least I’m the only one who’s bugged by it.

The thing is it’s not a hard thing to miss. There’s a script out there to an early draft of the movie where it was longer. They had to cut a lot of stuff out to slim it down to make the movie we ended up with in the end, and the scenes are all in order in the draft. Not many people know of it I don’t think, but it’s free and readily available to anyone who wants to look it up.

Character in my fic is going to mention it because they’ve seen it a lot (more than me actually), and also because I can’t unsee it. The fic is going to be anonymous. The problem is I kind of want to post my find on tumblr too (on a sideblog I have specially for that fandom) because that’s where everyone is, but I don’t want to be connected as the author of the fic. If if two people point out the exact same thing on two different platforms, don’t you assume it’s the same person? That defeats the point of anonymity.

My blog I have for fandom meta (and a very niche au) has been inactive for a bit but it’s where I was going to post my find initially since those who follow me there are also very into the fandom (problem is I have a friend who, if he sniffs out any activity, will see that as an invitation to DM me daily and obligate me to talk to him, despite my telling him literally last week I’m taking a goddamn break... he’s been DMing me daily on our chat app ever since)

and another blog I have to voice my unpopular opinions for that fandom (I swear I blocked half the fandom bc they’re raging child antis) won’t reach that many people. I know for a fact plenty of them will see the URL and think “oh a pedo! Blocked!” so that’s a bust.

These two blogs are vaguely “friends” as far as anyone knows (meta reblogs unpop’s opinions, unpop tags meta in a bunch of shit) so it’s like two characters already, but then there’s the issue of being accused of “stealing” from myself. That’s a huge reason I refuse to post my art anywhere because my style is recognizable to people I’m trying to avoid and if it’s on anon I don’t want to be accused of “stealing” my own art, but I can’t “properly” credit without outing myself.

What should I do?

I've been on this website for over 10 years and don't really understand your issue with the gif. It's not a repost, which would be stealing, it's a writer using a gif through Tumblr with a direct link (and credit) to you. I'm not that blog but I'm also a writer and have always done things this way, never had any issues with anyone.

To Narvin's credit, he only expresses his revolt to one of Romana's most loyal allies. “Her integrity will be the death of us.”

“I don't think I've ever heard that word used with quite so much derision.”

“We both know this war can't be won with merely the moral high ground.”

“And I hope you realise that it can't be won without morale.” Braxiatel speaks quietly but not without force. “If we lose faith in who we are, in what we do, in why we're doing it, we will have no fight with which to win the war.” He takes one step closer so that Narvin and only Narvin can hear him. “Listen to me, Narvin. Romana's integrity and her strength are all that is holding us together. She is our hope. And while our enemies may have hate to drive them, we need hope. No one fights for a future they can't believe in.”

It's a shame Narvin is too clever and too quick to let the truth slip by. “And what do you think will happen to morale if her methods fail?”

Braxiatel smiles. “It isn't a possibility you need worry about. Get to your investigation of Polymnos, Coordinator.”

Add your URLs! A lot of writers go by different usernames on tumblr or other social media, where they still talk about their fanfiction. I’d love to follow you and hear about your process outside of the finished fanfic you post.

This is how you can add a direct link on AO3: <a href="URL" >blog title</a>.

Can I message you?

If you’ve added your URL, it would be awesome if you state whether you actually welcome asks or direct messages. People are shy! They need that extra encouragment to actually go ahead and interact.

Podfics and translations

The Blanket Permission tag is great but many people either don’t use it, think it’s too broad or don’t know what it means and thus don’t add it to their works. Firstly, what does “blanket permission” mean?

Basically, it refers to the fact that the author gives anyone the permission to go ahead and create podfics, remixes, translations, fanart, or even fanfiction of a given work. So if you just give “blanket permission” for that, people might go ahead and create any of the given examples.

More relevant, and something I’d love to see on AO3 profiles, would be whether people allow translations, podfics, and fanart. It can be something as simple as:

Blanket permission for fanart, podfic, and translate as long as you credit and tell me afterwards :D

Or you can also put up:

I do not allow any podfics or translations to be created of my fanfiction.

It’s good for people to know where you stand so they either know not to ask or what precisely to ask for.

Collections

AO3 Collections are amazing! People can just decide “Hey, I want to create a collection of Star Wars time travel fanfics” and you can go ahead and browse what is basically a mini library in a way that’s a bit more concrete than tag surfing at times.

It would be great if people stated on their profiles “I allow my fanfiction in collections” or “I will check out a collection before I allow my work to be added so it may take time”

On to the third list. Once again there’s a lot however most of the people in the list I can’t tag/ they’re url isn’t attached to them anymore. And then lastly is a user that was in my last post that still has their story up with a bunch of stolen work too. 

I’m sure there’s more out there, but that’s what I’ve found for now at least in the marvel fandom. This isn’t including the like four others I found for other fandoms. Please do not take our work and post it some place else unless we specifically state it’s alright. 

*this is also only stuff I’ve found where they’ve blatantly stated they took it from Tumblr and that they didn’t write it. The only way you can tell if your work has been posted some places else is to look it up on a plagiarism site like Quetext.

Another short fic bound pamphlet style! 

I knew before I even started reading that this fic was going to be fun -- the first thing that caught my eye while scrolling down AO3 was the tag ‘Dark Rataouille show me the forbidden rat cultivation’. I was not disappointed! It was great! I also had a lot of fun typesetting and designing the cover for this fic.

I really wanted to incorporate the author’s picture of Lan Wangji landing on the Pizza hut and found that it worked well as a silhouette. The red coulour was inspired by the roof of the Pizza Hut from that picture. And of course the swarm of rats from the story. To fill up some empty space I added a fake sticker (a sin, I know. I’m not sorry despite myself) to the back cover with some of the fic’s tags. I chose the swirling pattern seen on the background of the cover because it reminded me of clouds. And at the end of the Author’s Note I added pictures of the of model of motorcycle Wei Wuxian drives. All of the images I used are credited in the colophon at the back, and I added QR codes alongside the links for easy access. The story itself has a QR code on the page with all of the info from AO3. (I just really hate typing out the full URLs. Scanning a QR code is so much easier!)

I had a hard time choosing a font for the title (nothing new there) but in the end settled with a Agreement Signature (link to Fontspace) for the title and headings, and Spartan (link to Google Fonts) for sub-headings and other non-body text. Spartan is a thin font, and it might just be my printer, but it did not print well at regular weight. Especially at a small font size. In the future I’ll try it out as medium or semi-bold. The main body of the fic is in the font Lora (link to Google Fonts) size 10. I like this one a lot, it’s up there with Crimson Text on my shortlist for serif body fonts.

ALSO! I figured out how to avoid the issue of disappearing Blank Pages when I exported to PDF from LibreOffice Writer! Instead of doing page breaks with the Right Page style, I inserted the empty pages using a break with a page style without headers, followed by one with Right Page style. (And there was much rejoicing.)
