"Understanding Mental Illness and Addiction During Awareness Week"

Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) is an annual event that is held in October to help raise public awareness of mental health and illness. Each year, the MIAW focuses on promoting awareness by providing information about services and support available to the public. Amidst the pandemic and economic downturn, the need for mental health awareness has become increasingly important. This year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness has chosen the theme of “Tools2Thrive”, which focuses on coping strategies that individuals and families can use to help manage their mental health. MIAW encourages those struggling with mental health or substance use disorders to seek help by citing the numerous resources available. For those struggling with addiction, there are several addiction treatment centers available, and for those seeking care for mental illnesses, there are many resources listed on the NAMI website. Furthermore, NAMI promotes self-care and speaks to destigmatizing “negative” feelings and behavior. Another important theme perpetuated by MIAW is that of “connectivity”. This emphasizes the importance of social connections when it comes to managing mental health. To promote this, MIAW often encourages individuals to engage in social activities or reach out for help from family, friends, or healthcare professionals. Below are three key takeaways of Mental Illness Awareness Week 2020:
The theme of Mental Illness Awareness Week 2020 is “Tools2Thrive”, focusing on coping strategies and self-care for managing mental health.
MIAW emphasizes the importance of seeking help and provides resources such as drug rehabilitation centers.
Social connections are important for mental health and MIAW encourages individuals to engage with friends, family, and professionals.
At its core, Mental Illness Awareness Week is the perfect tool to educate the public about mental health and the available resources and support systems. To learn more about Mental Illness Awareness Week, visit Banyan Mental Health, a mental health resource center for connecting people with the help they need for their individual journeys.

By this post, I would like to participate to celebrate World Mental Health 2021 in the theme of #Tools2Thrive by telling my experiences how to thrive my depression. . Back to when I was diagnosed with mental illness, I could say that it’s not easy to thrive and adapt on what has traumatized which caused me a panic attack. I felt the day was went off, I felt bluec anxiety all the time, and thinking that I wasn’t that valued to live. . By the time, I visited a psychiatrist and getting better. But as the time went, I felt like my depression was went up and down, and I could say it’s still happened until I told my story here. . About how to thrive and maintain my mental health better, I started to wake up earlier than I used to. I workout as much as I could to relieve the stress. Also, I’ve journaling my activity and do some meditation in order to release the stress out. . Afterwards, I have a mantra that I always be my guidince, and my mantra is: . “Control what I can control and focus on what I can control. By that means, I will always stay on my goals to pursue my dreams to be come true.” . . . . . #worldmentalhealthday #worldmentalhealthday2021 #tools2thrive #selfreminder #selfcare #mentalhealth #reminder #narrative #story #grateful #quote #quotes #qotd #thriving #awareness #selflove #copingmechanism #copingskills #copingwithanxiety #coping #2021 https://www.instagram.com/p/CU2iiNXhWVi/?utm_medium=tumblr

It's BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month everyone. Join us as we bring to the table discussions, activities activities events about how Mental Health effects those of us within intersecting communities. For so long the stigma of admitting that one battles Mental Health challenges has been a stain on our communities for far too long. Mental Health is serious and as communities of color and communities of LGBTQ+ often we are left out of the conversations of how, why, what and where we can access help. Catch us throughout the month . . . #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #bipoc #bipocmentalhealthawarenessmonth #MindSetGo #MindSetGoals #storiesallaroundus #ourstoriesmatter #youarenotalone #tools2thrive #blackmentalhealth #indigenousmentalhealth #pocmentalhealth https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ_zZVYrtMq/?utm_medium=tumblr

While 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. The good news is there are practical tools that everyone can use to improve their mental health and increase resiliency – and there are ways that everyone can be supportive of friends, family, and co-workers who are struggling with life’s challenges or their mental health. This May is Mental Health Month and Up Your Geek is highlighting #Tools2Thrive – what individuals can do daily to prioritize their mental health, build resiliency in the face of trauma and obstacles, support those who are struggling, and work towards a path of recovery. We would like to help in the effort to educate and promote mental health for all! Click the link in the bio to get your own T-Shirt and support the Up Your Geek for Mental Health campaign! I thought about today how it took me so long to get where I am. The struggles, the questioning, the why am I here? When will a time come that I don't feel THIS way? The drowning in my own chatterbox of the mind . . . Then when I got to a place where there was peace even if only for a moment I was upset that it took so long . . . Why couldn't I be like so and so, they made it when they were 34, came out of college got a good job, or started a company was a millionaire at 30, it that person they've found their soul mate and they are married and have a home . . . The human mind is never satisfied, but the soul knows different. Today I looked around at all the different people, different cultures, styles, languages, music preferences and realized I made it to 44, so what it took so long to get to some semblance of peace. So what initially I thought I took too long. Sometime else didn't get the chance to even travel through the journey of making it this far. I have scores of friends who didn't make it, they didn't make it to the next breath of 22, or 30 their breath was stolen. So the next time you think about why am I here, or damn it took so long pinch yourself and just say I made it here no matter how long, I made it and congratulate yourself, that is an accomplishment. Be BRAVE, you're already AMAZING!!! #LegacyMakers #MakeArt #BRANDED #onenationonemovementonethread #blackandwhite #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #cornerstorenation #thecornerstorenyc #custommade #Tools2Thrive #SayHello #lifestylechoices https://www.instagram.com/p/CO_E1KzlnwT/?igshid=hm0la8dvoyr
