Among the best advice I’ve ever got for improving my social relationships and reducing beating myself up, was replacing apologies with thanks.
Instead of “Sorry I’m late.” -> “Thanks for waiting.”
Instead of “Sorry I’m rambling.” -> “Thanks for listening.”
This de-emphasizes “I’ve dome something wrong” and emphasizes your appreciation for the other person. That instead of you doing something requiring an apology, they did something nice.
It’s actually fairly subtle? But it adds up. And the more you do it, the more automatic it becomes.
Thanks for listening.
Thanks for being there.
Thanks for waiting.
Thanks for your time.
Thanks for showing up.
Here’s something I just said to a friend on Discord:
Haaa, thanks for letting me bounce my thoughts off you btw
Lemme know if it's ever too much
I was rambling on about my Colony AU fanfic and an idea I had for it.
And I started to feel bad.
I was talking and talking and they were barely responding.
I was starting to feel like I was being boring or annoying.
So I stopped and said... thank you.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for letting me talk to you about this thing I’m so passionate about.
And I opened room for setting a boundary in the future.
Let me know if it’s too much.
Let’s imagine an alternative phrasing that might be very familiar to some of you:
Sorry for talking so much
Feel free to tell me to shut up
Compare the two version for a few moments. How much different is that energy?
Which would you rather see from a friend you love who’s very anxious?
Which do you think your friends would rather hear from you?
They probably love hearing you talk. They don’t want you to feel like you’re some annoying trash who should just shut up.
I’m working on it.
If you find yourself saying “sorry” all the time over minor things just in case you’re upsetting someone?
Consider saying “thanks”, instead.

Of Godsons, Fruitloops, and Lois 'I will drag all secrets out into the sun' Lane
Danny loses his parents due to their own lack of safety in the lab (death? Coma? People finally putting their foot down about the Fenton's endangering their kids? Idk pick). Jazz can't take him in due to being in college and living on its campus (and he didnt want to force her into an apartment just to keep him, he saw the prices and knows she'll have to work to make rent) and Danny fears the only place he can go to is... Vlad. (Sam's parents would never let him live with her and Tucker's place doesn't have the room)
Vlad's been lording it over Danny, smug about it all, after all he IS Danny's godfather and he has the space and money to provide for the boy in his time of need.
Only, when digging into Danny's files, his social worker discovers Vlad isn't Danny's godfather, he was meant to be but the Fenton's forgot to send/sign in the final paperwork (even if those documents were the only contact they had with Vlad over the years before the reunion)
No Danny's godparent, the person to take him should anything happen to the Fenton's is....
Lois Lane.
His mom's childhood friend.

We're currently switch my cat's food and litter to try to figure out what's causing this weird mystery allergy she's had for the last like 5 years and I was kinda worried she wouldn't like the new food bcs you never know, but actually she likes it so much it's actually ridiculous. Cuz like when you switch a cat(or dog's) food you have to taper it like a medication, you keep giving them the old food but slowly mix in more and more of the new food while mixing in less of the old, cuz if you don't you can make them sick, and she is SO SO SO mad that I keep giving her ANY of the old food.
Whenever I go to fill up her bowl I first add in the old food and then mix in the new, and while she used to just immediately start eating when I'd pour her food now she just watches me do the first one, sniffs the bowl, and then sits back and stares at me like "uh mother it appears there's been an error" and then when I reach for the other food she looses her MIND and starts shoving her face in my way and meowing and getting all excited and she only starts eating once it's mixed in.
So like, glad she enjoys the new stuff at least!

ALRIGHT after some technological mishaps (laptop charger needed fixed), the first round of check in commission updates should be heading to the relevant email inboxes over the weekend! there are still some emails I need to reply to, and I’m aiming to get those done over the next couple of days as well, but at long last it should be smooth sailing from here on out :)

The whole "Claudia is now his sister"/Louis' sibling comparisons are never gonna sit right with me because that's never going to erase the fact that Claudia exists as a vampire partly because of him. Their relationship will never have this clearly defined role of siblings in the same manner Louis had with Grace or Paul, even if he was their older brother and was implicitly given the role of providing for them as the successor and manager of his family's estate. Because Louis was never responsible in part for their creation, the reason why they existed the way that they do in terms of behavior and life itself.
It also makes his betrayal of her all the more heartbreaking in ways that him and Grace drifting apart never will. He was her father, and didn't provide emotional support for her. She had to turn the tables and try to assume the role of being on an equal level because of this failure but this doesn't make him not choosing her any less painful than it did the first time. Even as they shift roles, take or give emotional responsibility one has towards the other, the fact that Claudia exists the way she does because of him and Lestat will always be there.
