Agamemnon: I don't think I've ever seen you apologize before.

Odysseus: Diomedes completes me.
Penelope: Um…hello?
Odysseus: You’re nice too, Pen.
Penelope: I’m your wife.
Odysseus: Ah, but Diomedes is my soulmate. Huge difference.

Do you have any HCs on Achilles' piercings in a modern AU? And Pat as well? The last art you posted got me intrigued😊
Oh, I forgot to draw it in but Achilles is supposed to have one sleeve of tattoos too bc my modern AU is also a band AU lol and naturally the band is other tsoa/Iliad characters, Odysseus on the drums, Diomedes playing bass and Ajax (the greater) playing guitar. I’ll get more into in the fic I’m writing but it’s just my headcanon that in modern times, Achilles would be a musician so of course he’s gotta look the part, and in my AU he started this band when he was 16/17 ish with these older guys and that means getting fun (stupid?) tattoos and piercings to try and look cool and fit in lmao
As for the piercings, I think Achilles would have on both sides the first and second holes pierced which he got done probably when he first started his band and Thetis flipped out bc her baby ruined his ‘perfect little ears!’. And he’s got his septum pierced which he got around 17 once he left home (we’ll talk about that later too 🤫) so naturally a kid with freedom is going to do something stupid like let his band mates shove a needle through his nose. It was Odysseus who did it and the piercing is actually a little crooked but you can only tell if you really look.
I think Achilles also has an industrial (or bar) piercing in one ear too that he got when he was 19 ish, and both helix piercings but sometimes he forgets to put those in. He’s also got the stud nose piercing and he switches between that and the septum sometimes too. He tried to get a web piercing (under the tongue) but it rejected and he didn’t try it again bc the first time was painful and he’s a baby when it comes to pain.
As far as more intimate piercings, I think he’d be too scared to actually do them lmao like he’d talk a big talk about getting a nipple piercing or a more private area pierced and then when the needle comes out he’s just like ‘ACTUALLY—’ 😂
Okay now onto Pat; he’s only got his ears pierced lol just the first and second holes, which he probably got done as a teenager (Like 18 ish?) just because he thought they’d look neat, and because Briseis egged him on and said both would look cool. Sometimes he remembers to put them in, sometimes not and if he does, they’re usually just little black studs. I just don’t see him with a ton of piercings, or any tattoos. He appreciates them from a distance, and always admires the ones Achilles has but it’s not for him and that’s okay 👍🏽
Hope I’m not forgetting anything for these but yeah these are basically what I can think of right now! ❤️

15 DAYS AWAY FROM THE PERCY JACKSON TV SHOW WOOOO!!
Feeling great guys, it’s been raining cats and dogs out where I live and I just had to walk back in it.
I worked a little more on the map and I made the wonderful choice to just giggle and see how it would work if I used Octavian (with my height hc) as a ruler for the walls (if anyone asks, I imagine they tower over people, it’s very hard to free climb them just because of sheer height. They’re as tall to keep monsters out or at least slow them down- probably more on that when I talk about sentry/guard duty in Camp, since camp doesn’t get to be included in the safe bubble.)
But this is how it turned out,
Tumblr media
I include this update purely because it’s so funky looking, but if anyone would want to know I used the idea that Octavian is at least 6ft here (*insert my various ‘Octavian towers over everyone else and whenever there are camp photos where everyone’s gathered up his head is either always cut off in the pic’ I say at least 6ft because I put him on the taller side of the 6-6’11 range but for the ease of the number I chose a nice round 6ft*)
But that makes the concept wall (that I think is at least like 50 ft. No I won’t be converting that to anything more useful, feet is the only measurement that makes sense in my brain) but that makes the ‘wall’ (big purple blob) in the photo around 36ft tall. Which.. I’ll be honest I have no sense of scale but that seems very small. I think the wall is at least maybe 54-ish feet. Or 9 Octavians if anyone is wondering.
But working on that… instead of layout. I have it roughly figured out but I don’t want to draw it yet, maybe I will in a little but not right now.
Okay uhhhh. I started TSOA and it’s such a nice cool-down read, it’s really light and easy to blow through and after spending my days with they Odyssey and Iliad it’s a nice change of pace. I’ve been working on some of my PJO oc’s so I’ll probably throw them in sprinkled throughout here and there. Also I’ve decided to try and play around with a newer art style. And I might get out some more Centurion stuff, or the security of Camp Jupiter (That, that is what I will be working on) because it’s great.
Okay I gotta get ready to go to one of my friends choir concerts and I don’t want to arrive looking like I just fell out of my window and fell asleep in the rain.

tsoa!
"he is half of my soul" is abt vidow bc of course it is
"i am made of memories" is that hc we posted abt legend and fable, its basically legend processing that everything he done, everything he fought for, is forgotten
"i would recognise him by touch alone" is about dink pretending to be shadow and four calling it out bc they can, well, recognise shadow by just touching him
"light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun" is a new fic where sky is legends dad. finally. he teaches legend how to ride a loftwing :D

hcs when you saw you wondered how it happened. not necessarily you don't like it you just don't understand the origin of it
This is a really specific ask anon lol But well...
Starting with jealous Achilles (with Patroclus, especifically). It's consensus in the fandom that he's jealous, which is funny because Iphis is only sleeping in the tent with Patroclus precisely because Achilles brought her to him from Skyros. It wasn't even Patroclus who captured her or asked for her as a reward (which was what happened with the other cases in the army), one day Achilles simply arrived and said "here she is, her name is Iphis" and that was it. Besides Iphis, Patroclus had NO other women associated with him in a sexual context. If it weren't for Achilles, perhaps his character wouldn't even have anyone.
I thought it could be Hades or TSOA, but Hades doesn't give any hints and the Briseis-Patroclus thing in TSOA is so…Idk she's there and that's it? It doesn't really generate any strong conflict, Achilles doesn't really seem THAT jealous. In fact, in TSOA Patroclus had much more convincing scenes of jealousy than Achilles with the whole Deidamia thing.
I can understand him being jealous of Patroclus in a modern setting because it would be different social contexts and he could very well be jealous in modern times. But in the Bronze Age? Nah. I don't even remember Achilles being jealous of his female interests (Deidamia, Briseis, Diomeda, Polyxena, Penthesilea…I genuinely don't remember jealousy). Even in the most brutal case of all, Troilus, there was no rival as a motivator of Achilles' attitudes as far as I can remember. It's always his own anger/violence or the prophecy or both.
I don't mind this hc, I even read stories like this and I even like it, I just wanted to understand where this consensus came from. It's really curious.
---------------------
This one is about the erasure of Antilochus and Ajax! There is one hc that unfortunately I can't say what it is because I saw very few people having this headcanon, so it would be very obvious where I saw it. Suffice it to say that the hc is basically taking Antilochus and Achilles' relationship, removing Antilochus and adding another character with whom Achilles would DEFINITELY not have this type of relationship. But like, VERY randomly. It's precisely because it's so random that I wondered when this hc came into existence. And why? Antilochus is right there. If not Antilochus, then Ajax. You don't need to think about who was the closest person to Achilles after Patroclus, the myths already answer that! Why ignore them? They're nice! Really curious.
This is definitely not a hc I have because Antilochus and Ajax already exist, but it's not a really bother either. It's just very random. Maybe people who like this hc just don't like Antilochus or Ajax? Idk
---------------------
There are others hcs leaving me ???, but I understand why they exist, so they don't fit this list. And some I don't understand, but they' re not hcs but interpretations, so they don't fit into this list. Most fall into these two categories, actually.

O and I have an other question how do you think Achilles will react once he finds out about the fact that Patroclus had slept Deidameia. Because I do believe Patroclus haven’t to Achilles about it .
<3 <3 <3
Ah, the single plot point in TSoA I disagree with.
🎵How do you solve a problem like Pyrrhus🎶
So if we’re all gonna suck Homer’s dick, then let’s all get on the same page that Deidamia isn’t in the Iliad. Or the Odyssey. You also gotta be careful with any source material mentioning Deidamia as most of this content was part of a smear campaign by the Italians coughDantecough.
Pyrrhus is such a random character if you think about it. Achilles was not married, otherwise Agamemnon wouldn’t keep trying to get him to marry his seemingly endless supply of daughters. Pyrrhus isn’t labeled as a bastard, but what else could he be? Achilles would’ve had to have knocked up some chick.
And isn’t it strange that Achilles would do this? I don’t want to say it’s not in character, but it seems strange compared to his prophecy-focused life. (Also, Patroclus and Achilles don’t have little bastards running around the camp, so do we really believe they’re fucking the slaves? If they’re fucking the slaves, where are the babies? Birth control and abortions were not that good in 1250 BCE. But I’m getting super off topic now.)
This is why I personally believe Achilles found a random baby, adopted it, and had Mother feed him ambrosia.
I’m very passionate about ^this headcanon of mine.
Now back to TSoA…
First off, remember that Patroclus is a LIAR. He is not just full of bologna, he’s made out of bologna. He wants us to believe he’s a feminist? Anti-war? A doctor? Achilles is perfect? Patroclus PLEASE!
But you have to respect the lies because TSoA is essentially an autobiography and lying is like the first law of autobiography writing.
I’d also like to point out the clever literary trick at the end of TSoA. The book ends with Patroclus and Thetis chatting about Achilles. She says “Speak, then” to get Patroclus to share his memories. Thus, the book is not so much an account of his life, but essentially all the memories he had to share with her. He wants to show her how glorious her son was, the side she never got to see, the human nature she shunned, Achilles’ mortality. So of course he’s going to highlight the good, even enhance it as well as downplay or even lie about the bad.
But back to your question…
What happened at Skyros? Patroclus wants us to believe a lot of non-con was going on. I low-key have a very messed up theory about what actually happened and why it happened, but I don’t want to get into it rn a blogger on here might be unhappy bcs of a related ask I coincidentally just sent them. So for simplicity's sake, let’s assume that the non-con did indeed happen. I think he told Achilles a half-truth. Something to the effect of mentioning having comforted Deidamia and given her an official farewell (of the husbandly kind) on his behalf. He used a lot of double-meaning words to allow Achilles to interpret as he pleased.
And how did he interpret what Patroclus told him? First he was relieved that he would not have to deal with her again. Then he was his usual dumb blonde self (Patroclus calls this 'trusting', Pat pls) and took the words at face value. And I wouldn't blame him for it. When traumatic things happen to you, you do what you can to cope.
And please don’t take this as victim blaming or non-con denial, but the last lines of Chapter 13 never sat quite right with me.
Tumblr media
Sorry to keep harping on the lying. Part of me thinks the scene with Deidamia was either a hallucination-false memory sequence to reinforce that patrochilles is 2-bodies-1-soul -what happens to Achilles happens to Pat; and part of me thinks this was Pat’s sly way of showing Thetis how she hurt Achilles by enabling the non-con. Sadly, we'll never know the truth, so it's up to you what you want to believe.
I hope this rambling rant answered your question. Thank you for the ask! I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Song of Achilles and am capable of ranting and raving about it for hours at a time 😘

Short Patroclus/achillies fic based on my laurals HC
The Lethe rolled lazily behind him, the misty weightless river near silent. Elysium was a paradise. It was meant to be a reward for a life well lived.
Patroclus knew he wasn't meant to be here. He had killed a child and was shown to the burning plains of Asphodel when he first arrived. It wasn't long before he was escorted to Elysium with no explanation.
Holding the circlet of laurals in his hands, patroclus could guess why he had been shown this supposed kindness.
What kind of afterlife is a paradise without him though? He has been waiting and waiting and waiting, and yet there has been no sign, no talk of Achillies.
Hector was dead. He knew this. He watched his death at the hands of his beloved. He saw hector enter his chamber and flee soon after, though he's sure hector doesn't know he was aware of his presence. Hector is dead, which means Achillies should have died soon after.
But there is no Achillies here. No sweet laughter to listen to, no golden hair to shine brighter than the sun, no soft skin to worship under his calloused fingers.
Patroclus stares at the laurals in his hand. What was once lush lively green leaves we're now a blue so light and strong in colour they reminded patroclus of the summer skies above the beach in phthia. Although the colour was different there was no mistaking the laurals of Prince Achillies. How often had Patroclus seen his filtatos wearing them, how often had he removed them himself with care, or knocked them from the princes crown with his rushed and desperate fingers?
He was not deserving of the princely symbol. Yet he could not bare to be rid of them.
He will never forget watching as his love screamed and howled and pleaded over his own still body. Watching as achillies cried and clung to his cold corpse for days, as he cried himself into an exhausted sleep and awoke sobbing. Watching all the light and life drain from his Achillies' eyes until the tears stopped and his soul numbed.
Achillies had then taken his laurals and placed them around patroclus' head. The symbol unmistakable. The Prince had never been shy about their relationship, even going as far as to call Patroclus his husband one time. But this was an announcement. Patroclus would be royalty. He would be Achillies' other half for the whole of Greece to see. No one would be able to excuse what they saw as some childish bodily wants.
The laurals resting in his hands were a sign of achillies' love and devotion for him. They had followed him into the afterlife, the only thing patroclus had left of his Achillies. Those and his memories.
The Lethe rolled lazily behind him, almost silent, but in the stillness of the chamber Patroclus could hear the faint whispers of its waters. It's temptation to drink, its promise to soothe his heart by making his mind forget.
Patroclus looked at the laurals in his hands. The leaves the wrong colour and belonging to the wrong person. He could not bare to be rid of them. He took a breath, placing the leaves back into his hair and started to speak out loud. Talking to his missing love so as to drown out the whispers of temptation once more.
