It’s official. From Deadline:

UPDATED with AMPTP statement, 1:07 AM: Contract negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP broke off tonight, and the guild’s national board will meet Thursday morning to formally approve the launch of a strike.

It will be the first actors strike against the film and television industry since 1980 and the first time that actors and writers have been on strike at the same time since 1960, when Ronald Reagan was president of the Screen Actors Guild. Picketing is set to begin Friday morning.

How, you ask? Why, through fanfiction! Seriously, so many wonderful writers pour their hearts into fanfics for every imaginable show, movie, and ship. You will be surprised and thrilled to find wonderful works centered around your favorite characters. There are tons of places to find fanfics as well. While I’m a loyal Ao3 reader (and writer), just Google fanfics and go nuts! Find new ships! Discover talented writers creating beautiful stories based off of their favorite books, movies, tv shows, etc! My point is, if you want to continue enjoying your favorite entertainment genres while no new content is being created by the WGA & SAG-AFTRA, search out fanfiction. Writers will be absolutely thrilled to find new readers & new readers can immerse themselves in their favorite shows and movies with brand new plots and exciting headcanons. So…take a chance. Click on over to Archive of Our Own (or fanfiction.net or a dozen other sites that let fans express themselves through their stories). You will become addicted to the wonderful content you find and you will not regret exploring other fans’ interpretations of your favorite entertainment. What have you got to lose?

Tufts University Resident Assistants (RAs) authorized a strike earlier this week in response to Tufts’ failure to make any offer for compensation in the form of a stipend. RAs at Tufts are currently only compensated with housing- they need to live on campus to do their jobs- but no stipend or wages during the semester or the three weeks of unpaid training they must attend in early august before other students are on campus. They also do not receive a meal plan.

Tufts recently sent an email communication to university students about Union activity on campus, failing to mention their bad faith attempt at bargaining over the past six months, and ending with a threat against potential strikers.

This portion of the email reads, “We anticipate everyone involved will respect our community values and one another’s right to enjoy the new semester without disruption. While we support the units’ engagement with our campus, any actions or activities that create a hostile campus environment, endanger public safety, or violate our Student Code of Conduct will be addressed by the appropriate members of our staff.”

This is a clear threat of conduct proceedings and potential expulsion against student workers who have a legally protected right to strike without retaliation. OPEIU local 153 is filing an unfair labor practices suit against Tufts University as a result of this threat and others from Tufts lawyers in bargaining meetings.

No. SAG is still striking

The WGA closed deals and got what they were asking. But SAG didn't. Which means yes, if you're covering struck property because you failed to check their site, you are scabbing . Remember: there were TWO strikes. Only one has closed.

We want the creativity of humans and their work to reach us and for them to be adequately Compensated for Their Work that We Like. pretending that we are just pairs of eyes consuming blindly and evaluating Art based on this metric is unfair for every single person who worked on it and to the viewers who invested their emotions, time, and money in it. sacrificing art for the sake of efficiency and profits is inhumane..
