There are audible tremors in Mike's voice and he thinks he feels tears falling down his face.

"Whatever I had with El was not love. It was coincidence and my own cowardice that brought and held us together. It was dumb luck I met her. But you know who I was looking for that day? It was you, Will. It's always been you. I chose to walk up to you on that playground 10 years ago. I chose to ask you to be my friend. I chose you. "

Even if Mike had the confidence to look towards Will, his eyes were blurred with tears and he couldn't even see the ground they were falling on.

"I'm sorry for what I said at the pizza shop. It was- I was lying. I was just saying what I thought she needed to hear again and I really don't know why cause it never works and you were right there and it fucking hurt to lie so much and you didn't deserve that, you- Will, my life didn't start the day I met El in the woods, not in the way I implied, at least. You were missing, most thought you were dead or would be soon. We were all so hurt and lost without you. Joyce seemed half hysterical, Jonathan- I'd never seen him so sad, and we, The Party, we didn't know what to do without you. I felt like death, like I'd died without you to keep me alive. But then we found El and she- if she could be lost in the woods and found, so could you. And then- then she recognized your photo and she knew who you were and she flipped the board to show you were in the Upside Down and- and meeting El wasn't my life starting. It was hope restarting it, hope that she could get you back to us."

They stood and he wasn't sure if Will was nearly as frozen as he was, but it took him several moments to regain any thoughts and then continue speaking.

"Will, I've known I was in love with you for years, now. But the love has been there far longer. You- you're amazing, Will. You're so smart, even if you suck at math. You capture beauty in ever drawing and painting you make, creating it from sheer care and adoration alone, when you have to. You consider other's thoughts and feelings before you do or say anything, no matter how angry you are. You're such a quick thinker, it's scary sometimes. Not- not really, but you get the idea. You're the most level headed person inside of a group where everyone else is about 10 seconds away from murdering each other. You're patient, gentle, honest, hilarious, and you're also, like, super handsome. I couldn't live without you, without my cleric. I almost didn't. You've saved me more times than you know. Because, Will, you are so strong and so resilient. You've survived and endured more than anyone ever should be forced to yet you remain kind. You called me the heart, in the van. And don't even try to say that's all El, you and I both know that she doesn't think that and that you're a terrible liar. But, really, Will? Me, the heart? Will, that has always been you. The weight of their matching watches is heavy on Mike's wrist, the syncronized ticks breaking the stark silence every second. And, as he finally lifted his head up, Mike once again saw that Will had already been staring.

For once, Mike doesn't look away. Rather, he takes a few hesitant steps closer.

"I love you, Will Byers. You are my best friend, my first friend, my childhood crush, my gay realization, my tether to reality, my cleric, and you have been the most important person in my life since you entered it. Maybe even before. Maybe I had carved out a space knowing one day you'd fill it."

Thinking about the period stuff now and just thinking that the boys who would be total champs should Reader/Yuu be on would be;

Jamil - He's not only seen it all with his own sister, but has probably had to help Kalim's sisters at some point or another too. He's dealt with the worst cramps and flows to the "I didn't even notice I was on" girlies.

Ortho - Baby boys a walking Medwiki, has probably known your cycle before your first conversation with him. Would be more fascinated than grossed out by period stuff than most boys in the school.

Rook - Like Ortho, probably knows when you're on before you even realised you were and has a box of your preferred method of dealing with it in hand by the bathroom stall at the ready. Don't ask why he's in the toilet with you or how he knew what size pussy you wear, just be glad that in an all boys school, you have at least one (1!) friend willing to carry spare tampons/towls/mooncups/whatever for you.

Cater - Poor guys got 4 sisters and has been an unwilling student in all the "joys" of menstration. He'll look out for his favourite underclassman and bask in the praise of being such a reliable senpai/big brother type. But if his sisters are nuts normally, he's gonna have to work through some instense war flashbacks before he's any good to you.

Kalim - Most likely has a lot of sisters who are at the age where their dealing with this stuff, does his best bless him to take care of them but c'mon, it's Kalim. As soon as he tries people are calling for Jamil instead. That plus the sheer mythic level of cat fighting should any of his 30+ siblings syncronize means that like Cater, might be too scared to approach you at first but he makes it on this list for sheer effort and desire to help.

Of the human students, these all make a lot of sense! I def think the idea that Ortho already knew about your cycle before even knowing your name is super funny.

Little man's got a storage unit in him that has those stickable heating pads, pads/tampons, and pain medicine. One day, at a time that you know of Ortho, but never really spoken to him, he floats up to you. You're looking at him all confused before he opens up a compartment, takes out the above-mentioned supplies, and just hands them to you. He chirps about you needing them and lets you know that he's always well-equipped if you need anything else!

You're standing there with Ace and Deuce, confused. Your period doesn't start for another week, why did he—how does he even know your cycle? (That night, you notice that you started early).

And Rook? Fucking freak of nature he is. Why does he know your exact brand and period product preferences? Cause the man, similar to Ortho, is walking up to you one day, prattling on in poetic fashion about the beauties of human biology and reproduction (fucking weirdass). He hands you a small bag with your items, all the exact ones you get from Sam, down to the exact flow size. He tells you that you should consider heading to the bathroom now. Walking off, you freeze as you feel yourself get wet. You rush to the bathroom, finding that you started your period right at that moment.

Ortho is excusable, he's a robot. Rook's on thin fucking ice and is now required to stay 6 feet away from you at all times. If he wants to give you something, he can have Epel deliver it. He wins your favor back by buying you snacks, and you let him near you again. Just stop reciting poetry about the menstrual cycle, Rook I beg—

- she was an atlantean creation made after the fall of atlantis ( which was around 9,600 bc) in the southern end of china)

- she is known as the vermillion bird of the south and is known to be a chaotic neutral entity rather than being pure malevolent

-like gamera she is also techno organic and operates similar to an evangelion unit ( in which she can interface with those she has syncronized with )

- she is one of gamera's few circle of allies when dealing with a greater threat such as zanon

- non cannonically ( for the sillies ) she is somewhat an edgy hot topic type of gal

The Different Types Of Angelic Twin Flames (+ signs you've met them)

Did you know there are many different types of "twin-like" soulmates? Not just twin flames? These days people will have an experience with one of the twin-like soulmates and ALL are classifying these experiences as twin flames. This creates confusion.

REAL twin flames are from my view are the highest twin connection you can have and are SUPER rare to be together physically. Twin flames are born from the same color flame at the same time in the highest level of creation, this is why you have different colored twin flames: “Blue flame, violet flame etc…”. Signs you are twin flames is a deep knowingness that you will be together forever and have been together since the beginning of time. Because of this incredibly strong spiritual connection you don’t run and chase each other or have confusion on who they are to you. It’s a fact, pure and simple. You would rather leave them alone and let them live their fullest life rather than have them “with you”, because you recognize you are connected forever spiritually. This connection might cause spiritual healings, where a chakra will be permanently cleared, you may only have to look at them for this to happen, this is how strong the connection is. So it’s actually NOT common for twin flames to be chasing each other or to be worried about each other, this is a lower, earthly connection where lots of past lives and karma are involved.

Signs you’ve met a twin flame: You would rather them live life to the fullest than to be with you because “their end is your end”, you “know” you are forever in union in higher planes, there is not an ounce of doubt whether or not they are your twin flame, they heal you spiritually in some way (chakra clearings), you have no expectations from the relationship, you want them to succeed, they will talk like you, act like you, look like you even, they will be the male/female version of you. You will also share the same soul groups…same star race, angelic race, elemental race which will cause even more similarity between you. It’s possible you will never actually see your twin flame in the physical, but instead will see them only in the astral realm. They may not even be incarnated with you and instead are guiding you from above.

(Note: I’m not ruling out that twin flames can also have past life trauma between them, there can still be grief and sadness for one another, but there shouldn’t be any confusion or doubt or “worry” what they think of you, ALL should be KNOWN deeply). You’ll know they’ve been with you since your creation and will continue to be with you forever, eternally.

Angelic twin souls, MOST people who are saying they are “with their twin flame” are actually with an angelic twin soul. I would say 98% of people talking about twin flames are talking about this in different iterations. Twin souls are united under the same archangel or higher being, this is what causes their freaky twin like attributes, not the fact they are “the same soul”. They will have syncronicities, telepathy, look the same, act the same etc…it’s really incredible. They will activate each other’s chakras etc…the difference is…they also may have a lot of heavy karma and past lives together, so on top of the angelic layer is a lot of pain. This is where you get the pain in your heart that won’t go away. The only way to get rid of it is to live your life with courage and dive into the desire to be with them. Avoiding and waiting won’t help. However, not ALL twin souls have heavy karma! Some are more clear and uplifting and these are the people you might have contracts with to get married, have a child or even create a business, spiritual movement or art together. A lot of famous creative duos were angelic twin souls. The goal with this pairing is to CREATE something on earth. Twin flames on the other hand have the goal of activating and clearing each other SPIRITUALLY. It’s not about creating something physical, which is why it’s far more common to be physically in union with a twin soul rather than a twin flame. and why the use of the term "twin flame" on the internet is wrong and leading people astray. Twin flame is for the spirit world. However, a twin soul can absolutely spiritually heal you as well, but will also have that physical purpose.

Signs that you have met a twin soul: You might talk the same, act the same, look the same, have the same goals in life, live parallel lives, have telepathy, have many past lives together which come up as memories you can’t explain, clear and activate each other’s chakras, you will most likely be the same star race, as star race families are lower versions of angelic race families, this creates even more similarities. You may or may not be the same angelic race. Also, if you have a twin sister/brother that you are very similar to, or a brother or sister you do creative projects with, that’s most likely your twin angelic soulmate who you were born with, so…there you go! You will have a big mission on earth with your angelic twin soul.

Twin flame catalyst: The twin flame catalyst will usually be the first person you meet in your twin flame journey. They will be from the same angelic group as you, therefore the same star race group. They will be eerily similar to you for this reason. They are not here to create something with you like a twin soul is, they usually come in as a first high level soulmate experience and will have A LOT of karma layered on them, more so than any other angelic soulmate you will meet. You will have had 100s of past lives together and the pain you will feel with them will be so strong, it will feel like someone has died. This person may also be an older, more advanced soul within your angelic family/group and this is done on purpose. To activate you and initiate you into their level. The purpose of this connection is to rise above it and to eventually let it go. This person might feel like many things to you: your child, a father, mother, brother, lover, everything in one. This is why it will be very hard to let them go and why you are not meant to be with them in a physical, practical way, they are an "initiation". But you want to get to a place where you choose inner love 100% and are not relying on outer love AT ALL. Not from a romantic partner, not from your parents not from a child or sibling etc…NO ONE, but only God in your heart. This is what this connection will eventually lead you to. After this you may be ready to cross paths with a twin flame or twin soul.

Signs you met a twin flame catalyst: it’s the first spiritual soulmate you’ve met in your life, they remind you of a parent who abused you (mother or father), they create a physical pain in your heart, you have a fear they will die or painful memories of them from past lives you can’t explain, you will be very similar as you are the same angelic race, star race and sometimes same elemental race. You are united under one higher being just like the angelic twin souls, the only difference is the karma is INTENSE and will feel very physical and earthly, like something is physically pulling on your heart.

***The important thing to note is that ALL twin-like connections are in the same soul group as you, especially the same angel race, but it’s the twin flame who’s at the highest level with you. The love you feel for these soulmates is an example of the love angels feel for each other, but the karma and past life trauma in the catalyst is something you will need to rise above eventually and let go, replacing it with love within yourself, instead.

Humans are Space Orcs: Leopard Squad

The night was as quiet as it was still in the Great Dismal Swamp. The chirping of various hundreds of bugs brought the insectoid xenolife some semblance of comfort, being reminded of the sound of their sleeping young and mates back on their home planets. As a hive mind, the individual didn't have such feelings, but the Matriarch felt the yearn for her people to be reunited again. She had grown tired of the conquest of this overtrodden ball of dirt. Hundreds, no thousands of battalions had fallen in the conquest, and hundreds more to disease and wildlife. The company of dozens of bugs let out a collective simultaneous buzz, their equivalent of a wistful sigh, silencing the rest of the wildlife around them. The silence persisted longer than they expected it to. Seconds turned to minutes, and the minutes dragged as the forest around them went dead quiet. The prey instinct kicked in and the bugs went onto high alert, drawing their weapons and looking for the predator that was lurking in the shadows.

Belyan held a finger to his lips, active camouflage making them nearly invisible as they loaded the battery into the side of a plasma rifle, the barrel glowing white hot seconds later as their helmet picked up movement signatures ahead. They pointed behind themselves without a word and then ahead of them. Eight humans crept through the forest in the dead of night, like shadows over the roots beneath the darkness of the new moon. Leopard Squad was on the hunt, and each one of them knew just what was on the line. This company was looking for an old survival bunker the Collective had just heard of themselves. It could've had food, weapons, survivors, hell, maybe even clean water. It was enough for Earth's last special forces unit to come out of hiding to secure it.

Quanta's visor zoomed out when she saw Belyan's finger pointed at her. That was the signal, it was go time. A few dozen feet to the side and several hundred feet back, she stood up, the reactor of her power armor letting out a high pitched whine before it melted away to a low drone. The bugs immediately tuned into the noise as the panels of her armor shifted into place. She let out a low chuckle and raised her arm, pressing a button on the elbow and hoping her squadmates had her earplugs in.

An old MP3 file of Ezekiel's Horn blared from the speakers of her armor, the sound of the end of the world blasting so loud it kicked the dirt around her up into a dust cloud as she picked up her weapons, lightning arcing through the dust as the barrels spun up.

"That's right, you big ugly bastards, all eyes on me." Quanta cracked a crooked smiled beneath the tungsten helmet, watching the individual vitals ratings of their enemies spike simultaneously. Interesting... they're synced up. She'd have to think about that. Modular, syncronic design could increase the efficiency of her armor.

"Q, you could at least act like you feel bad. We're supposed to be professionals." Even as Belyan's voice crackled in her ear, she could hear them trying not to smile as they loaded a magazine into their plasma sniper rifle.

"Just because I have a sense of humor doesn't mean I'm not good at my job." Three shots bounced off her armor, the impenetrable wall not even flinching as she continued walking forward, thunder cracking every time she fired her weapon into the horde ahead. One got too close and almost slipped past the sensor. As she wound her hand back for a punch it fell over, bursting into flames from a plasma round in the back of the head. She heard Belyan breathe in from the lungs emptied to steady their hand as she shook her head.

"I just had the most fucked up thought."

"What's that?" Quanta loosed a salvo of rockets, stripping a passing dropship out of the sky in a burst of purple fire as the compressed potassium burned everything carbon-based inside.

"We are definitely getting discharged if we win."

"Oh, no fucking doubt. No chance I'm passing a psyche eval after this one."

Rivetra 86 AU Headcannons

Note: This AU is very loosely based on the LN/anime due to my limited knowledge of it so far but the idea wouldn't leave me alone so i had to write some things down. If you don't know 86 i definitely recomment you check out the anime or LN.

-Petra is taken back from the battlefield due to her outstanding skills in observation and leadership and overall fighting skills and she's secretly assigned to a special team of 86s stationed inside the Republic's Military Base of operations.

- The Special Handler Unit consists of mostly 86s and a few old guard skilled commanders who didn't accept the Republic's unfair treatment of the people who weren't Albas and were deemed deceased, seen their existence erased and were assigned to the Special Unit.

- The existence of this unit has not been made public as 86s aren't considered humans and should have no place Alba territory.

- This Unit came to existence so that Alba Commanders didn't have to deal with the harsh job of monitoring the Colorata in the frontline squadrons and remained safe from the danger of Para RAID syncronizations and not having to work too much.

- Some of the Unit members consisted of Erwin and Nile and they each were tasked with frontlines squadrons on the same battlefront.

- Levi had been a part of the military for around 4 years, which by their standards was much longer than most soldiers dispatched to District 86 and his discharge was coming soon. He was well known thorughout the military, be it stationed on District 86 or the Handlers inside the walls of the Republic.

- Levi's Juggernaut's symbol is a blade crossed with a white wing representing his willingness to fight and carry the souls and wills of his fallen comrades.

- The Squadron Petra would be assigned as a Handler to consisted mostly of veterans and a few young recruits whose squads had been destroyed. It was named WINGS due to the way they seemed to swifly fly through the battlefield like a flock of birds.

- Their first Para-RAID contact was in the middle of a battle against the Legion's advanced scouting unit and their communications didn't go that well.

- Petra's inexperience with the radar-like system getting her frustrated as she couldn't keep up with the battlefield despite her on site experience.

- A few hours later on the same day she tried to contact them again but none of the squadron members responded. She wasn't able to fall asleep that night.

- In truth, Levi and Petra had already met in the battlefield before quite a few years prior. It had been Levi's first month in the military and one of their villages was being raided. During that fight he had been the one saving Petra's life from being taken along with her father's.

- She joined only 3 years after and quickly made a name for herself on the Squadron she had been assigned to. Her own Juggernaut had a Fox head sprayed onto it's side. Her symbol had been given to her by Nanaba, an older soldier who saw the way Petra ran thourgh the battlefield reminiscent of the small animal.

- Petra joined them for the battles every day at the designated time and eventually she started to understand how the system worked and was able to coordinate and help the squadron during the fights.

- After one of those battles and after giving them time to rest she tried to connect to them and finally got to have a much needed conversation with the members, getting to know them a bit more.

- She had already been aware of Levi as he was the Squadron's captain but that night she also got to know Eld, Gunther, Oluo, Nifa, Hange, Jean, Ymir and Reiner.

okay so a lot of this is probably going to be echoing what other people have already said, but here’s my thoughts on the ep.

spoilers for 5x06 under the cut! read at your own risk.

okay so i kinda knew where we were heading with the new episode before i got the chance to watch it, and i was actually really pleasantly surprised with it.

jumping a chunk into the episode, that scene with buck and eddie stood on the side of the road with the prisoners, they’re discussing things in hushed voices between them because they’re partners, they puzzle everything out together and they’ll get out of this too. one of the prisoners interrupts them by holding up a picture of christopher, and in my opinion you can see the exact moment that buck’s blood runs cold. buck loves chris fiercely, and knowing that these two (very dangerous) men have information about him terrifies him, because he’s already almost lost chris once. so he steps forward, once again putting himself between those he loves and the danger. i think its pretty obvious to everyone that buck loves family and values family above everything else in every sense of the word. eddie just looks angry and frustrated throughout the entire thing, but you can definitely see both fury and fear battling behind his eyes in that moment.

a little bit further on in the episode, eddie and the prisoner are obviously talking in the back of the ambulance. there’s a parallel to be drawn in the giving of the heart to the prisoners’ son so that he can live on, despite all the bad his father may have done. again, eddie loves christopher so deeply and with everything he has. eddie has been through so much trauma in his life, from what he saw in afghanistan, to shannon leaving, to shannon dying when he thought their family unit was coming back together, to getting shot out in the streets of la, the city he came to call home. despite all of that, in the metaphorical sense, he gives everything he has to chris, every ounce of love and positivity and hope that he can muster. he wants chris to have the best life possible, and by extension, the happiest life possible, despite everything that eddie himself has seen and done.

one other thing i did notice, and i know i won’t be the only one, is the physical distance that’s always present between buck and eddie this season. sure, when they’re working it’s buisness as usual, and they work in tandem and syncronicity as well as they always have! however, when it’s their ‘personal time’, or they’re not on duty per se, there’s always some form of distance between them. even in the hospital towards the end of the episode, they’re sat almost as far away as they could possibly get from eachother. it’s a physical manifestation of the barrier between them and everything that’s going unsaid (ie. the shooting in 4x14). it’s like an elastic band being stretched - the more you stretch it, the more you actually feel the tension. something is going to happen, some triggering event, that is going to force them to address the elephant(s) in the room and i for one, can’t wait. i like that they haven’t made it something to be addressed in the first episode or two of the season and then being brushed off, because a lot of times trauma does look like this. it’s words unsaid and words unspoken until everything comes bubbling up.

Humans are weird: trust

So this is different from my usual humans are weird stories but after seeing a post about a person teaching a robot trust that kinda got me thinking... this was the result lol)

In recent years humanity has come upon a previously shunned alien race. Though they are not of blood and bone like the others that humans have run into. They were of metal and wires, how they were created were unknown. The Syncrons, or simply Syns seem eerily similar to biological life both in design and programing. Special modules within their bodies allow them to emulate emotion to a varied degree, only thing is though whoever created them left behind no way for them to reproduce. Searching the galaxy for their old masters and acquiring knowledge henceforth has become their top priority. One such syn is named (or designated) IOTA-TAU-2639 or colloquially named IOTA by the rest of the crew. He was meeting with the captain of the ship after his assignment to oversee research and continued production of his kind through specialized factories.

“It’s amazing…” Captain Richard Shaw says as he overlooked the assembly. He was a young captain, probably barely in his late 20s, he never thought he would set his eyes on something such as this. A technophiles dream to put together robots that actually seemed… alive. There of course are advanced drones and combat units within the empire’s military but nothing on such an unprecedented scale. Iota saw this and chose to remark on his astonishment “I suppose it is impressive how you humans are so quick to work with ones such as us. Building us, learning our blueprints such as that” They were both standing in his quarters overlooking the engineering deck, while the ship itself is technically a military ship, it still specializes in R&D specifically on a mechanical scale.

“It’s not just that Iota… we seem lucky to run into your kind. An entirely robotic race that act and think on their own, created by some bigone empire that you barely remember. Hell the mere fact that you are able to show emotion is amazing in and of itself.”

“Well… I wouldn’t say we necessarily show emotion captain” The synthesized voice sounded off… distraught

“What do you mean?”

“I find myself marvelling at you organics sometimes. Able to show such a wide range of emotions, making decisions on it and such but all we can ever do is copy it. I personally have heard of stories about well humans specifically gaining exponential amounts of strength from anger, or worry. Things such as that but my programming to show emotion even now is just that… emotion… something to put organics at ease but even then the rest of the galaxy shuns us because we are cold and logical… hell even such things as body language is programmed in for communication’s sake. How we would love to show such things as love, and happiness… and sorrow… regret, and pain an-” Richard put up his hand to interrupt him “im going to have to stop you right there… those… last three are not something people usually enjoy feeling…”

“Well… why not? Does it not feel… warm and alive to be able to feel such things?”

“No… not at all. Sorrow, loss of trust, and just general sadness is something humans and by extension other biologicals tend to stay away from... “ he says looking around the deck “curious…” Iota mutters “could you possibly give me an example for me to log?”

“... well you know how from the blueprints you gave us we started prototyping more of your kind… programming them with your help and teaching them such things as following commands you know stuff like that?”

“Of course captain…”

“Well one such test to gauge their understanding is putting them on a platform perhaps… and tell them to walk forward… of course at first they would disagree telling them they would otherwise fall off but the programmer and assistant assures the unit that they would be caught… building trust. And of course we catch them”

“Which is of course what you should do yes?”

“Well… what if I told you metaphorically speaking that… there are some people that would not catch you” a low whirring noise could be heard from Iota’s chassis as he looked over at the captain, the LED “eye” lens in the center of his faceplate making a squinting motion as he thought “That would be a logical fallacy… why would you let someone fall even when told you would catch them without any hindrance?”

“That is something we humans call a lie… say you will do one thing when you are really going to do something else… mostly the opposite. I have read up on syncrons before. They do not lie because it is against their programming. But humans do not follow they same way of thinking.”

“So… these… lies… speaking again metaphorically why would someone let me fall…”

“You said it yourself… your kind have been shunned by the rest of the galaxy for centuries. Such lies could be done out of hate, jealousy, things like that. Using it to trick your programming and then… let you fall. Some people even… are just evil…” another noise could be heard from Iota, this time though almost seeming sad or depressed though Richard cannot determine whether this was genuine emotion or just… part of his programming… “Captain” Iota said finally speaking up…”you should tell me more of this trust sometime. It would be interesting for the archive.”

“Of course Iota” he says moving to leave the room and head for the bridge “and captain…” Iota said, sounding nervous”

“Whats up?”

“When I fall… can I trust you to catch me captain?”

“Of course” Richard says without hesitation “I’ve spent too much of my life dedicated to engineering just to screw up my trust with someone like you”

“Thank you captain”

“Of course”

I just beat Assassin’s Creed Revelations

I just finished Assassin's Creed: Revelations. I played the Xbox 360 version on the Xbox One X, I rebuilt Constantinople 100%. I got all of the memory fragments. I went through all 5 parts of Desmond's journey, and I collected all of the Ishak Pages. I didn't find every treasure or buy every book, and I definitely did not get 100% syncronization on everything. This is the weakest of the Ezio trilogy. It's a smaller and shorter game than the previous two. It's still fairly lengthy, but the other two took me between 30 and 40 hours to finish. This took me about 10 hours less than them. That has a lot to do with the city being smaller, as is evident by the fact that you get just about everywhere on foot. There are no horses. This game has some problems and weird design choices,m though. It has this weird tower defense mini game that I had to do 3 or 4 times, and it was frustrating and annoying every single time I had to do it. It was not fun. IT felt forced into the game because tower defense was popular at the time. It felt completely out of place, and I spent a fair amount of time going "Why the fuck can't I place units here, exactly?!" I hope they got rid of this bullshit in future games, because it sucked. The animus segments are strange, too. It's this weird first person puzzle platformer where you place long blocks and ramps to walk on while trying to avoid things like lasers that destroy the blocks. What the fuck even were these? There seemed to be no definite way to solve them. It did not feel like using brain power so much as it did trial and error. Just keep trying until you win and minimal actually figuring things out. Again, these were not fun, Learning more about Demond was cool, but you could have picked a better way of doing it. This game, also, has enemies that are piss annoying. The riflemen are the biggest offenders. This game puts guys with guns fucking everywhere, and it does not make many adjustments to deal with these fuckers. It has them in boxes where you cannot climb into them. You have to shoot them from a distance while getting shot at. Just...fuck theses guys. Every time I found one. I tried to kill him before he noticed me because I did not want to deal with their bullshit. Countering is less effective in this game. I realize that the counter button was the win button in the previous three games, but I am not sure that it is even possible to counter the guys with pole axes. The game has you fight them in groups, and you will have to do something like kick them in order to get them down on the ground to kill them. This would work out alright if it weren't for you being surrounded by a bunch of other guys that will take a swing at you pretty much every time you try to deliver the killing blow. The end result is that fighitng these guys is more of a chore than anything else. The other solution to this seems to be to have enemies just shoot you. I had so many deaths and near deaths because I thought the enemy was going to swing at me, and I was ready to counter, only to have them pull out a gun and shoot me. This was, also annoying at times. It's less annoying than the pole axe fuckers but still annoying. Toward the end of the game, guards got to the point where they would just see me and attack me on sight. Even paying off heralds to lower my awareness to the templars didn't seem to help with this. I wound up spending a lot of time just fucking running from enemies, and it was more annoying than anything else because it made getting anywhere I needed to go something of a chore, Are you sure this isn't the really bad one? Is three really somehow WORSE than all these problems? There are good things about it. On a technical level, it does look good for the time. The city is gorgeous and fun to explore. The story is interesting, and you get to play as Altair in Masyaf, which was awesome. It was cool to get more of his story and to add depth to his character. He actually had an accent in this game, which is nice. The hookshot thing is a lot of fun, too. Using the ziplines and assassinating enemies from them never got old. In practice, I suppose it just means you can jump higher while wall climbing, but I still enjoyed it. I would have liked to have seen it more integrated into combat, though. Use it to pull enemies toward you right into your hidden blade and stuff like that The parachute was, also, a fun addition for the very few times that I actually used it. Anyway, yeah. This game is no where near as good as the previous ones. I was constantly going back and forth between fun when I was climbing and exploring ot furstration and annoyance when I actually had to fight anything. Some of the new additions are like "why is this here?" and it just does not feel as well thought out as previous games...especially 1 and 2.

Perbedaan (Lanjutan) dari MVC, MVP, MVVM dan MVI

Artikel kali ini ingin melajutkan tulisan saya sebelumnya “Perbedaan Sederhana dari MVC, MVP, MVVM dan MVI”. Pada artikel itu, saya memberikan gambaran dengan bahasa sehari hari agar mudah dipahami. Namun tentu saja hanya sebatas kulitnya. Pada kesempatan kali ini saya ingin menjawab beberapa pertanyaan lanjutan yang diberikan oleh teman yang memiliki pengalaman lebih jauh dalam dunia pemograman. Jika kamu belum pernah membaca artikel sebelumnya, sebaiknya lowongkan waktu membaca artikel itu sebelum melanjukan membaca.

1. Karena masalahnya Callback Hell, apakah MVC kembali relevan jika menggunakan aync await?

Callback hell hanya salah satu kelemahan yang ada. Saya memilih menunjukkan hal tersebut karena menurut saya hal itu adalah kelemahan yang paling “terlihat”. MVC sendiri merupakan pattern yang muncul paling awal, dimana pemograman masih bermindset syncronous. Paradigma seperti coroutine, events loop dan sejenisnya belum ada atau belum populer. Async-await sendiri muncul dengan lahirnya paradigma asyncronous programming (selanjutnya saya sebut async progam).

Menurut laman di wikipedia, async progam pertama kali muncul pada tahun 2007 di bahasa F#. Diadopsi C# pada tahun 2012, lalu python dan Typescript pada tahun 2015. Jadi, masih bisa dibilang lumayan baru.

Lalu, kembali ke pertanyaan apakah async prog bisa menghidupkan lagi MVC?

Singkatnya, menurut saya, tidak.

Salah satu tujuan penerapan design pattern arsitektural, seperti MVC, adalah untuk memiliki kode yang menerapkan SRP (Single Responsibility Principle, dari SOLID principle). Kita melakukan SoC (Separation of Concern) kepada kode kita. Hal ini (diharapkan) dapat mempermudah kita untuk memelihara dan mengembangkan kode tersebut dikemudian hari. Salah satu kalimat jargon terkait hal ini ialah “akan lebih mudah di unit-test”.

Tapi, sebenarnya apa yang dipisah?

Controller, Presenter, ViewModel, dan Intent sesungguhnya adalah bagian yang berusaha memisahkan business logic. Perbedaan scope (batasan masalah) yang mana saja disebut business logic itulah yang memunculkan berbagai pattern yang ada. Sebagai contoh silahkan lihat potongan kode dibawah mengenai MVC.

Kita bisa lihat ada sebuah scheduler (coffeEmptyCheckScheduler) yang dibuat dan running setiap 10 menit. Ketika waktunya tiba akan mengecek apakah kopi kosong, jika iya maka akan melakukan refill. Bagian kode yang ini, bagi sebagian orang, adalah sebuah business logic yang tidak seharusnya berada di dalam sebuah view. Pemisahan akan lebih baik ketika menggunakan MVP. Seperti contoh dibawah.

Bisa kita lihat view kini lebih bebas dari business logic. Oleh karena itu menurut saya jika masih ada yang menggunakan MVC sebaiknya segera hijrah.

Kalau kamu masih bingung bedanya MVC dan MVP kalimat sederhananya ialah “Controller tidak memiliki reference ke view sedangkan presenter memiliki reference ke view”.

2. Masalah MVP hanya kalau lupa unregister si presenter? Kalau gitu misal udah yakin sudah unregister aman dong?

Itulah alasan kenapa MVP masih exist di pemograman modern. Selain alasan tersebut (yakin ga akan lupa unregister presenter), masih banyak yang menggunakan MVP dikarenakan ia lebih sederhana dibandingkan MVVM dan MVI. Misalnya saja di MVP kita tidak perlu mengenal beberapa konsep baru seperti Observable dan Observer, Emiter dan Subscriber, Reducer dan Dispatcher. Untuk lebih jelasnya silahkan baca mengenai paradigma Reactive Programming.

Namun muncul lagi sebuah perdebatan bahwa view belum cukup terpisah. Bisa dilihat pada contoh sebelumnya, ada proses di view yang mengubah field coffeRefilloading (sebuah model atau state milik view). Bagi sebagian orang ini adalah business logic. Karena business logic seharusnya berada di presenter maka sering kali terjadi “lupa” atau “miss” mengubah state ataupun menjalankann fungsi di view ketika melakukan perubahan. Tentu saja sebagai programmer yang handal jika sebuah masalah sering terjadi kita ingin mencari solusinya.

Pada pattern yang baru, View dirancang agar otomatis react terhadap perubahan view-state dan me-reflect hasil perubahannya. Untuk sementara mari kita namakan “objek” baru yang mengendalikan semua state sebagai NeoController. Karena semua state dikendalikan oleh NeoController bisa kita katakan hanya ada satu sumber kebenaran (Single Source of Truth, SSoT), yaitu state milik NeoController. Selain itu, karena kini state hanya dapat diubah oleh NeoController maka alur data dari view hanya ada satu arah (Unidirectional Data Flow, UDF). Bisa dilihat di diagram diatas, pada MVP terdapat 2 panah keluar namun di new pattern hanya 1. Kedua konsep baru yaitu "Single Source of Truth" dan "Unidirectional Data Flow" dapat ditemukan baik pada MVVM maupun MVI. NeoController kemudian dinamakan sebagai ViewModel pada MVVM dan Intent-Reducer pada MVI.

Perbedaan utama dari MVP dan MVVM ataupun MVI terletak pada kedua konsep baru ini.

3. Apa bedanya MVVM dan MVI? Kalau dari contoh (di artikel sebelumnya) cuma dari jumlah state?

Sebenarnya di contoh pada artikel sebelumnya saya menyederhanakan MVI sehingga terlihat sama dengan MVVM jika MVVM hanya memiliki 1 state. Ada konsep User dan Reducer yang sengaja saya hilangkan. Secara singkat perbedaan MVVM dengan MVI terletak pada seberapa ketat konsep SSoT dan UDF diterapkan dimana MVI lebih ketat. Perhatikan diagram berikut.

Bisa dilihat MVVM bisa memiliki beberapa state, yaitu view state dan business state. View pada MVVM hanya otomatis reflect kepada view state. Hal inilah yang sempat saya sebutkan diartikel sebelumnya. Bisa saja ada sebuah view state yang sebenarnya depend ke business state tapi miss ketika business state diubah.

Pada MVI diterapkan SSoT yang lebih ketat, semua state digabung menjadi satu dan pasti di-observe oleh view. Walaupun tentu saja akan ada perubahan state yang seharusnya dan tidak perlu render view namun menyebabkan render terjadi. Tentu saja hal ini memunculkan perdebatan mengenai performa aplikasi.

Selain itu, kalau kamu memerhatikan diagram diatas, saya baru menggunakan istilah Almost-MVI. Karena selain SSoT MVI juga lebih ketat mengenai UDF. Di diagram diatas kamu bisa lihat masih adanya panah yang berputar ditempat, Action-State. Hal ini memungkinkan adanya proses yang tiba tiba mengubah state (unpredictable change). Sebagai contoh pada kasus coffeEmptyCheckScheduler sebelumnya. Action memiliki kemungkinan untuk mengubah tanpa adanya aksi dari view.

Lah, kalau emang business logicnya gitu?

Untuk “mengakali” proses yang tiba-tiba ada ini, kita harus membayangkan “sebenarnya apa sih yg berhak untuk memulai sebuah aksi?”. Jawabannya ialah User. “Tapi user kan diluar sistem”. Menariknya, ternyata kita bisa ngemock user 😅. Seperti ketika kita melakukan mock terhadap dependecy lainnya yang kita perlu tau ialah apa output yang diharapkan dari objeck tersebut.

Lalu, apa output dari user? tentu saja, As you can guess, Intent.

Jadi, pada MVI action tidak mengetahui juga apa kondisi terkini dari state, dan tidak bisa tiba melakukan modifikasi tanpa adanya Intent. Imaginary Friend User menghasilkan Intent. Action menerima data yang dia butuhkan dari Intent. Lalu, melakukan aksi dan memberikan hasilnya kepada Reducer. Reducer sendiri adalah objek yang berupa pure function yang menerima input current state, dan new data. Kurang lebih untuk kasus kopi diatas bisa kita tulis menjadi kode berikut.

Menjadi jauh lebih panjang? Ya, setuju. Tapi kini harapannya kodenya lebih predictable.

Kesimpulan

Selain MVC, Semua pattern ada kelebihan dan kekurangan nya. Seringkali dalam real world implementasinya disesuikan dengan kebutuhan. Jadi tidak murni MVP, ataupun tidak murni MVVM ataupun tidak murni MVI. Bahkan bisa berbeda total dari contoh diatas.
