Ongoing Series - Thai

Dangerous Romance (Fri YT) ep 8 of 12 - Sailom, sweetie, Kang is never sleeping alone again. It wasn't really translated, but Kang's way of speaking in that opening stinger was VERY cutsie. Also the gay sheets have made another appearance. I do have to say that "rich kid problems" is not my favorite story arc, but I still think this is a great Thai BL.

Naughty Babe (Sat YT) ep 6 of 8 - I love that they are finally talking to each other but Yi’s whole personality is shifting. Honestly, this pair is great at kissing and casual touches, but the friendships are the best thing about this franchise. Also Mr Chenne remains my fav character. But where did Diao's baby superhero team come from? And why? This show is very confusing... It’s also not very good.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) You Are My Soulmate ep 7 - This was the one of the series I was looking forward to the most, because silly, pretty, and v BL. It is, in fact all those things and nothing more. So I'm enjoying it, of course.

Absolute Zero (Thai Weds iQIYI) ep 2 of 12 - I like it, but it feels like it's gonna be so sad. I'm having Promise and Dew the movie flashbacks. Plus 12 eps seems too long for this narrative thread. I am worried.

Venus in the Sky (Tues iQIYI) 6 of 10 eps - This show is so slow it's hardly worth the bandwidth, but we attained "baby is a floppy drunk" and thus a finger bite frustration scene, which was nice.

Only Friends (Sat YT) ep 9 of 10 (not a BL but I'm watching it anyway) - Ray is so mean to Sand. The not-a-thing with Sand & Nick was cute. I’ve had several experiences like that. All my queer friendship groups tend to be incestuous, but sometimes they're just too much of a sibling and trying to sleep with them is the most unsexy thing in the universe. To be fair, I’ve also been in Ton’s position (this ep). Jojo sure makes queer shizz. But also, Ton must have a magic rod with everyone wanting a repeat. (I'm so glad they put Neo in this role, no one else at GMMTV could play him as complex or sympathetic.)

You Are Mine (Taiwan Fri Viki) eps 5 of 10 - now officially known by me as "I'm too sunshine for this seme" where our boss is being hella obvious but our cinnamon roll is just too ooey-gooey to notice. Al.though, baby boy, he takes you home, sleeps on top of you, feeds you cookies (IN HIS BED) and keeps you in his space? Surely even this sunshine is catching a few rays of truth?

Bon Appetit (Korea Weds iQIYI) 3-4 of 8 - ah gay panic, also what is Korea's obsession with 7 year separations? Is it only true love if you wait 7 years? Dohoon is SUCH a flirt, it's kinda great! Also, since it's Korea, we got us a bit of a love triangle with 2 hyung romances, so I (of course) am torn. Either way Dohoon is going down. I do love how much time we are spending with the food in this drama, finally one that lives up to its name. On an entirely different note, Korean camping is the most bizare thing to me. It's SO damn civilized. There will be NO DIRT. They pack blow torches. And full dinner sets. Every time I see it in a drama, I'm amused.

My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan Sat Gaga) ep 7 of 8 - OMG these 2 are so in love with each other, and so ridiculous about it. They're tiny idiots but I love them.

If It’s With You AKA Even If I Fall In Love With You AKA Kimi to nara Koi wo Shite Mite mo’ (Japan Gaga) ep 1 of 5 - from MBS a live action adaptation of Kubota Maru’s manga ‘君となら恋をしてみても. Amane has stopped loving people due to trauma until he meets Ryuji. At first Amane just wants to play with Ryuji but… feelings.

I like the odd Japanese mature-childishness in this one. Plus a broken sunshine who is out in a kind of aggresive way and an instinctive caring seme. What's not to love? Well, it's Japan I'm sure it will surprise me one way or another.

Mr Cinderella 2 (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 3 of ? - the cray cray step brother quazi incest is a bit much for me. Why does VBL just suddenly get so unhinged like this?

Season 2 (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - 4th installment in this series (1st series, 1 special, 1 movie prior) about a lawyer who lives with his boyfriend, a hairdresser, and cooks for him. I find thie series more fun to binge, som I'm waiting until it completes its run.

I Cannot Reach You AKA I Can't Reach You AKA Kimi ni wa Todokanai (Japan Tues Netflix-Japan & ????) - in classic JBL fashion, I Cannot Reach You could not be reached. 

Can I Buy Your Love From A Vending Machine? AKA Sono Koi, Jihanki de Kaemasu ka? (Japan cinema release in-country only) - This one is a movie from Japan so in customary fashion who tf knows when (or if) it will get international distribution. Salaryman Ayumu Koiwai just can't tear his eyes away from the strong, muscular man as he checks on the stocks of the vending machine in his office.

My Beautiful Man: Eternal AKA Utsukushii Kare Eternal (Japan movie Viki & Gaga) - Play it again Sam, only I'm kinda tired of this song. I was v dramatic tho. And it's always nice to be reminded JBL can kiss when it puts its mind to it. 8/10

Upcoming October BL

10/31 SHADOW (Thai VIU ????) - this is a horror BL featuring ghosts and other paranormal elements in a high school setting. I'm not wild about Thai horror (or horror at all, but if it must be done in BL let Japan do it). It features Singto (who did paranormal BL He's Coming to Me) opposite Fluke N (who's done a couple horror's before). Also Fiat. Dan suffers from sleep paralysis, and in his dreams he sees a shadow that suffocates him. It gets worse when he transfers schools.

10/? Bump Up Project AKA Bump Up Business (Korea ????) - BL staring OnlyOneOf that released(??) as a movie in July but is now being recut and reissued as a series. Stars NineMill and from Idol Romance bulled as a love story between a trainee who is about to debut and a celebrity from the same agency (based on a webtoon). OnlyOneOf have been auditioning for this since Libido IMHO. You can watch me chronicle their BL MV work in this post. Idol Romance will do sad but can do good kisses (Wish You, Nobleman Ryu, Once Again, Kissable Lips, Poongduck 304, Tasty Florida, Tinted With You) but I don't think we will get any in this. After that OmegaX Shoulder bullshizz buisness I am very wary of this show.

I think it's about time I explained Kin-Yarn to the new generation instead of jokingly brushing it off and making people do their own research.

Please note I will be spelling Kin-Yarn with the hyphen, as god (me) intended. Kinyarn is still hella valid and the more commonly used name. I also wont be going into my interpretations too much since it's complicated and long i do not actually ship it i promise.

Kin-Yarn is the greatest Kirby ship of all time. It's the ship between Yin-Yarn from Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Kine the fish from hell. There isn't anything canon for it, these characters have never and will never interact in HAL's eyes. However we, the fans, know better.

After reading my thesis I'd strongly recommend checking out all of the content the long dead kin-yarn fandom has to offer. Most of it is like, really old, since those around for Kin-Yarn's inception have either left tumblr, moved onto new and cooler fandoms, or don't think it's that funny anymore. (It isn't because it's a fandom in-joke from two years ago.) Thankfully there are many great relics of the past, of the days when new Kin-Yarn content showed up every like five posts on your dash. AO3 has most of the Kin-Yarn fanfiction that's been written, but some of it is hidden away within blog archives and dusty links to google docs. Kin-Yarn videos also exist, including some (two) AMVs and the classic Kin-Yarn ASMR made by yours truly. The Kin-yarn/Kinyarn tag on tumblr.com also has a lot of posts so just go through that.

I. HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Kin-Yarn was made at some point in October 2020. Out there on the internet there is a site called FanficMaker. It's a pretty basic website. I don't know exactly how the creators found the material to make this, but there is a okay-ish sized pool of sets.

These sets are fairly generic stories, with the program plugging in the names of characters you input into specific slots. There's a surprising amount of variation between these sets, but after you play with the site too long you start seeing the same ones over and over.

So Voiddemon a few years ago found this website, and decided to make some fanfiction and upload it to tumblr.com. On one occasion, the website generated the sentence "It was Yin-Yarns gay wedding party..." It didn't say who he was marrying, but I found it funny and uploaded it to tumblr.com. On a separate day, in a separate prompt, I put Kine in and it gave me a similar result. "Meanwhile, Susies mind was wondered back to the past. It was Kines gay wedding party..." I also found this funny because. Kine. And uploaded it to tumblr.com.

I will now introduce Ninikins (Who has since changed their username and moved on from the Kirby fandom), who suggested that the two of them were getting married to each other. Everyone in my circle online at the time found the idea hilarious because.

From here everyone went crazy and just started. Kin-yarning all over the place.

II. Fan Interpretations

Memetaknight, creator of the greatest Kin-yarn fanfiction of all time Yiracle (It's my favorite :shrug:) created a Kin-Yarn Essay. Today it is a great time capsule that brings us into the culture around Kin-yarn in the past. It's just over two years old now so happy birthday Kin-Yarn essay. It delves into the two primary interpretations around the ship. I'll just quote the most important bits of it since I'm lazy you can go check my sources ok.

"A common Kin-Yarn characterization is to ship either both brothers with Kine (as a V shape relationship), or just one of the brothers with Kine... This interpretation has many specific tropes... but it has one extremely interesting idea that is unique to it. In the spirit of Kirby’s Epic Yarn’s final battle... it has been theorized that something similar could apply to Kin-Yarn, in which the brothers would catfish Kine .. Kine, either on purpose or on accident."

"The other interpretation sees the yarn body previously mentioned as a third entity... which is referred as Yin-Yarn separate from the needle brothers. This characterization idea arises from the fact Yin-Yarn is referred as a singular character"

There is a third interpretation that stems from the two of these, which is that both the Yarn Body or puppet is in love with Kine and so is at least one of the knitting needles.

Often in Kin-Yarn works, it is unclear which one of these the creator interprets the ship as, since artwork and fics include all three characters (The puppet and the two needles) with no clear distinction between them. A distinction being drawn is more commonly in artwork, due to the nature of the medium.

III. Love and Marriage

For the most part, Kin-Yarn is portrayed as a perfect relationship. With Kine and Yin-Yarn being madly in love. The nature of one being a hero and another being a villain is not often explored, but when it is explored the most common interpretation is Kine accepts Yin-Yarn despite his past wrongdoings. Oftentimes Yin-Yarn will reform and become good for Kine.

III A. Who are Prince Fluff's Parents?

Prince Fluff (Also from Kirby's Epic Yarn) has no stated or seen parents within the series. Originally KEY was called "Keito no Fluff", and featured Prince Fluff himself as the protagonist. He was supposed to be searching for his mother, but this was removed from KEY so he has. No parents.

A semi-common headcanon within the Kirby fandom is that Prince Fluff was created by Yin-Yarn, which is what originally spawned this interpretation. A few perceptive Kin-Yarnians noticed that Kine and Prince Fluff have the same exact color scheme. Like it's kind of uncanny actually Kine is just a little desaturated.

This caused the creation of the Yamily Tree, an. absurdly large family tree but it's kinda bloated and not that funny anymore. Here's the condensed version

Usually Prince Fluff is not actually biologically related to Kine. Since that has horrifying implications. Instead it implies that after Kine and Yin-Yarn are married, they adopt Prince Fluff (Which he usually isn't happy with).

III B. KINE'S DIVORCES

Ok so Kine Kirby is married to Mine canonically. However we haven't seen her in a very long time, and in Kirby Clash Kine is sleeping on a bench. Leading to the idea that he and Mine got a divorce. This is accepted by everyone who ships Kin-Yarn because Kine cheating on his wife isn't a laughing matter, but Kine leaving his wife for Yin-Yarn is. (Usually the interpretation is Mine leaving Kine)

Even though Kin-Yarn is interpreted as perfect most times, other interpretations are that after they get married the relationship becomes volatile. At the core the two still love each other, but due to one reason or another they've grown apart. This is best shown in the Kin-Yarn Fanfiction named after the ships national anthem, "The One That Got Away" on AO3 by HeavyLobster77.

This is very popular both for the drama and because it's very funny.

IV. Historical Kin-Yarn Events & Holidays

-The Great Kin-Yarn Porn Scare of 1969 Someone uploaded an explicit Kin-Yarn fic on AO3 tagged as explicit with very SUS tags. It wasn't real though and the fic is just among us.

-Kin-Yarn Discord There's a Kin-Yarn discord out there that's dead as hellll and I'm. Not sharing a link good luck finding it

-Kin-Yarn WORLD TOUR I blazed a Kin-Yarn post when tumblr Blaze first came out. Spending real money to force people to look upon Kin-Yarn was a powerful move.

No quirks AU where the bakusquad is a very popular cosplay group who gets at least 1 mil views on their panels/group vlogs

Everything's chill until Denki makes a comment about having a boyfriend in one particular video when they did a panel and he became uncomfortable when somebody dared him to kiss another panelist for fanservice.

Denki doesn't address it after that. He and his bf were new then, and the bf is a very private person who doesn't want anybody in their business.

He still mentions he's in a relationship from time to time, just casually letting it slip in vlogs or in the streams they do.

However, a whole damn year later, his patience breaks when a group of people on twitter started a lil discourse about the bakusquad being Problematic™ and that Denki only says he has a bf to pander to the gays, discrediting his claim of being bi (since in the bakusquad's early days, Denki had a v obvious crush on jirou)

So one friday evening, he uploads a video in their group channel with the title "Turning my BOYFRIEND into an e-girl while addressing some very BAD takes"

And the bf: it's Hitoshi.

He's the only one in their friend group who doesn't cosplay -- he isn't even part of the "bakusquad", only appearing in a total of 6 times in their videos bc he's camera shy and, for a lack of a better term, not much of a weeb.

Denki starts the video by saying, without any editing and fanfare, "My life is not a convention panel where you can ask me anything and I'll do it. I'm not a commodity; don't treat me like one. To everybody who doesn't listen: fuck you and your mom."

Hitoshi snorts beside him, and Denki smiles. The video becomes fun and lighter in mood after that.

It's like, what do they call it, ASMR.

That's what Edward tells himself. Some people find it relaxing to watch strangers pop plastic wrap or flick dry paint brushes or whatever. He happens to find it relaxing to watch Tom Jopson talk about the intricacies of making candles.

He doesn't know how he first landed on “Brighten Your Day With Candles.” Some winding path of Youtube “recommended videos” he wouldn't be able to retrace if he tried, but the moment he found it, Edward was entranced. He watched every one of Tom's ten-to-twenty minute long videos immediately.

Nine months and thirty-four new videos later—Tom took off the weeks of Christmas and New Year's, leaving Edward bereft over the holidays—Edward understands no more about candle making than he did before. Tom, however, is endlessly fascinating.

Edward can't say exactly what it is he finds so alluring. Tom is handsome, with his flopping dark hair and his five o'clock shadow, but Edward sees handsome men all the time. He's clearly very intelligent, but Edward works with some of the biggest minds, not to mention egos, in the country.

There is something else, something which leaves Edward unable to look away. When Tom says, “Adding too much fragrance can, unfortunately, lead to curdling in soy candles” with a look of heart-wrenching empathy in his big eyes, Edward wants to gather him in his arms and give the man a good, solid hug. When he says, “I had news from viewer Jamie in Nova Scotia that they've solved their ongoing issue with wet spots!” Edward wants to kiss him in celebration. And when Tom leans forward, the V-neck of his shirt revealing a patch of dark chest hair, to confide, “Today, we're going to talk about the length of your wick,” Edward offers up a mental apology and reaches for his fly.

Edward thinks his obsession is secret, until one evening his flatmate George says, “Thanks for staying out when I had Emily over the other night.”

“It's fine.” It is in Edward's best interests not to be about when George and his girlfriend get together. There is only so much saccharine sweetness and over-the-top pet names he can handle.

“I really appreciate it. So does she. We wanted to get you a gift.” It's only then Edward notices the bag, printed with pink flowers and the words “It's a Girl!”, in George's hand. “Sorry about the bag,” he adds. “It was the only one I could find.”

Where? Is the question Edward doesn't ask. “That's not necessary, George. Really.”

“Open it!”

Edward tries not to sigh as he opens the gift bag. George's gift-giving history, while admirable in its efforts, is remarkably poor in its execution. The last thing Edward needs is another “Purrrrrfect Friend” mug with a cat’s tail as a handle, or a T-shirt with a Sasquatch on it. It's the thought that counts, he reminds himself, even if that thought is, when it comes to George, quite often incomprehensible.

This gift is just as strange. Edward stares at what appear to be squares of white wax, a roll of string, and several tiny bottles, until George, still smiling, explains, “It was Emily's idea. I told her how you're always watching that candle making channel on Youtube, and she said you're probably dying to give it a go yourself.” He looks at Edward, his expression expectant. “It's great, right?”

“Right.” Edward smiles. “It is. Great. Thanks, mate.”

The next day, Edward buys a pair of headphones.

One Wednesday nearly a year after Edward first found him, Tom finishes a talk about gel wax, then leans back on his stool. All of his videos are filmed in the same kitchen, with several little cactus pots on the windowsill and a gleaming sink, spotlessly clean, in the background. Edward wonders if it's Tom's own kitchen. If the rest of the room, or the house or flat, is as tidy as what he shows. If he lives with anybody. No one else is ever on the videos, although that doesn't mean Tom doesn't have a friend or a flatmate or a partner behind the camera.

“I'm really going to miss you,” Tom says, putting the gel candles aside. Edward's heart seizes. “But I won't be making any new videos for the next little while, because I'm going on a book tour!” He holds up the book, also entitled “Brighten Your Day With Candles”, he's been showing for the last few weeks. Edward ordered it the first time he saw it. He feels like he owes Tom at least that much. “I am so excited,” Tom says. He looks it, but Edward has never seen him be anything but sincere. “Unfortunately, it's just in south east England at the moment—sorry Jen in San Luis Obispo, I can't make it out to California this time, although I would love to someday—but I would really like to meet as many of you as possible. My complete schedule is below. See you soon!” He waves. Edward is about to scroll down to the comments, then hesitates.

What would he say if he met Tom in person? That he thinks Tom is the most incredible man he's ever seen? That he's watched every one of Tom's videos multiple times, and still knows nothing about making candles? That he often pictures Tom talking authoritatively about long burn times and multiple layers while Edward blows him? It's disgusting, inappropriate, probably illegal.

With a shake of his head, Edward puts the thought of meeting Tom Jopson entirely out of his mind.

At one time, Edward loved his career. That was before the company president died suddenly and his role was taken over by two co-presidents, promoted from within, who have a long history of conflict and have used Edward as a go-between, the miserable child of an unfriendly divorce, for months now.

It saps Edward's energy to the point that he doesn't have the will to look for another job. He just goes to work every day, suffers, and comes home to brighten his day with candles. Until one night, when George meets him at the door.

“Don't take your coat off,” he tells Edward. “We're going out.”

“I really don't feel like...”

“You will. Trust me.” Edward doesn't. They're great friends, but Edward doesn't trust him a bit. The feeling is vindicated when they arrive at the local Waterstone's, and George pushes him inside.

Tom is even more beautiful in person. His stubble looks like it's deliberate rather than the result of a long day, although Edward has always found that very charming in itself. He's wearing a smart white button-up shirt, and the smile he directs at the woman in front of him is so brilliant, Edward feels weak.

“No.” Edward turns to go.

George stops him. “Why not? It's the guy you like, isn't it?”

“It's...I don't...What am I going to say?”

“That you're a big fan? Even though you still haven't used that candle stuff Emily and I got you?” George looks at him pointedly. “Get him to sign your book.”

“I don't have it with...”

George reaches into his satchel and presses “Brighten Your Day With Candles” on him. “Get in the queue,” he says, in that imperious tone he sometimes has. “I'll wait in the café.”

Edward's stomach churns, but he follows George's direction, joining the queue behind a middle-aged woman and her teenage daughter. There are two other people ahead of them. It’s long enough for Edward to regret his entire life up to this point, not long enough to gather the wherewithal to walk away.

When Edward reaches the table, Tom's smile becomes even more brilliant. “You're Edward, right?”

Edward's carefully thought out opening words—“Good work”—disappear. “How did you...”

“Your friend George sent me a message.” Of course he fucking did. Edward is going to kill him. Is actually going to put his hands around his throat and...“He told me you'd be here.”

“Hm.” Edward has no idea what to say. His mind is entirely blank. He searches desperately, a quest which eventually arrives at, “Yes.”

“You like my videos?” Tom holds out his hand. Edward shakes it, then, face burning, realizes Tom was reaching for the book. Edward drops it onto the table. It thunks loudly.

“Yes,” Edward repeats.

“Do you have a favourite type of candle?” Tom opens the book and turns to the title page.  

“Wax ,” Edward replies, because his brain has apparently given up on this situation as entirely unsalvageable.

Tom laughs, as if that was a joke. He scrawls something in the book, then closes it and hands it back to Edward. “Thanks for watching, Edward. I really appreciate a loyal viewer like you.” He holds Edward's gaze as he says it.

Edward swallows around the lump in his throat. Edward has never done well in front of others. If he and Tom were alone, Edward might be able to come up something halfway coherent. Maybe. They're not.

“Thanks,” he says. He could swear Tom throws him a wink as he walks away.

It's that, along with the general humiliation, that leads Edward to duck out of view between Interior Design and Gardening. He opens the book to see what Tom wrote.

The words “For Edward” and a scribble that could be Tom's signature lie across the title page. Beneath that is a series of numbers. It takes Edward a moment longer than he wants to admit to realize it’s a phone number. He's not that lucky, usually. But he's also not this stupid.

His heart still hammering, Edward takes out his phone. I'm not really an idiot, Edward types, then sends the text before he can think twice. He glances at Tom, deep in conversation with a young woman in denim overalls, and goes to murder George.

Two hours later, Edward is sitting on the sofa at home when his phone trills. You don't seem like one. It's too kind. Just like he expected Tom would be. Can I buy you a coffee? Or better yet a drink?

“Who's that?” George asks, without looking up from his laptop. He doesn't need to. His entire body exudes smugness.

“Mind your own business,” Edward says. But, he adds silently, thank God you never do.

The rest of Tom's flat is as tidy as the kitchen he shows on his videos. It's also, amazingly, less than half an hour's drive from Edward's place. In addition to that, Tom has a day job at a shop Edward has passed hundreds of times, which he's always derogatorily classified as “candles, crystals and shit” and avoided.

“So if you hadn't been such a snob, darling,” Tom tells him, with a smile and a kiss, “we might have met a long time ago.”

Edward can't deny that. He can, however, deny that it's a good idea for him to join Tom on screen.

“Don't worry.” Tom sets up his phone on its tripod and comes back around the counter. “Just pretend it's not even there.” He kisses Edward again, on the cheek, then turns to the camera. “Welcome back, everyone! We have a very special guest today. This is my gorgeous boyfriend Edward, and we're going to help him make his very first candle!”

Tom posts the video later that evening. Not long afterwards, the comments start appearing. Normally, Edward would avoid them—he knows what Youtube commenters are like, and he never wants to see any criticism of Tom—but this time, he looks. To his surprise, there are several remarks about him. “Edward's so cute!” “OMG ur bf is the sweetest!” And, “That Edward guy really is great. I think you should have him on every episode.” The username beside that one is “PianoMan86” and the picture is the same one George uses on Instagram.

Bloody George. Fortunately, Edward thinks, looking at the slightly lumpy candle he produced with his own two hands, he has the perfect gift for him.

“Edward!” Tom calls, from his room down the hall. “Are you coming?”

Before they met, Edward assumed Tom would be the kind of guy who lights a million candles in the bedroom. In fact, he only ever lights one, but it never fails to have the perfect luminosity and fragrance for the mood.

“Yes.” Edward puts down his phone and hurries to join him. As amazing as he is on Youtube, Tom is unspeakably better offline.

The last person you kissed hates you. Why? I have no idea why he would feel that strongly towards me. We haven’t interacted in any way in 5 years, for one. Second, he’s the one who hurt me. I don’t hate him, never have, and I’ve long since moved on entirely, but if anyone had an issue with the other I think it would be me.

Who were you with the last time you went to the movie theater? My mom and brother. I miss going to the movies. The theaters have finally started to open up in my area, but I don’t feel safe going. I’m honestly scared because I don’t know when I’ll feel safe to go anywhere. I literally only go to my doctor appointment once a month and that’s because I have to in order to get my medication. It makes me super anxious just doing that, so I’ve had no interest in going anywhere else. Like how long will it be this way? I was a homebody pre-covid for the past few years, but I at least went on grocery shopping trips with my mom, went to the movies and other random shopping trips now and then, and beach trips during the summer in addition to my doctor appointments (which were 2 appointments a month before this). Now I’m totally cooped up inside apart from aforementioned doctor appointment once a month.

Honestly, have you ever eaten raw cookie dough? Yeah, many times as a kid. I also licked the brownie batter off the spoon. And guess what? I never once got sick. I haven’t done either of those things ever since the salmonella news spread many years ago, but it does make me wonder.

Is there a difference between the word ‘best friend’ and ‘friend’? Well, yeah.

Would you stay with your bf/gf if they did drugs? I’d have an issue if it was anything other than weed. I wouldn’t just end things right then and there, but I would definitely say something about it and encourage them to stop. If they had no desire to stop and didn’t even try then I think I would end things.

I’m very particular about how my mugs, glasses, and plates are organized on the draining rack. Please, don’t do the dishes in my house if I have to later put them in the right order.

I wouldn’t say I’m shy. It takes me some time to warm up but once I’m comfortable, I’m quite the opposite of shy. If anything I kinda lose my filter which has sometimes created some awkward situations.

“She/her” but I’m not that particular. “They/them” is fine if people aren’t sure. I also accept queen, angst queen, sis, dude, bitch/bish.

Depends on a lot of variables, but I guess the average would be somewhere around 4-5. Ugh, let’s not talk about concrete numbers like this!

I don’t have side blogs. I once made one for my BL manga recs (notthatiwilleverreadit) but then I wanted to delete it and accidentally ended up deleting my main blog, too, that I had spent building for a long time. That was enough trauma to keep me from wanting side blogs for good.

I’m bad at comforting. If we’re friends, there’s a good chance I do care about your problems and issues but I suck at comforting or cheering you up. Expect awkward silence, uncomfortable squirming, and clumsy pats on the shoulder from me.

It was actually Roman and Virgil who weren’t on board with it at first

Patton thought it sounded super fun, and Logan was genuinely interested in giving it a try, since learning about the physiology behind it was so fascinating, even if he was a bit reluctant about the roleplaying part.

Roman, when the idea was brought up, immediately said no. 

”What if people hate it?” he said defensively when he got surprised looks.Logan just blinked at him, sharing a confused look with his husband before asking slowly, “Roman, out of every single video we have done in the history of this group, this is the one you’re unsure of?” “Well, it- it’s a very niche interest!”“...we did an entire video at a chiropractor’s office.”

But then Virgil cut in: “I don’t really wanna do it, either.” 

Roman got a triumphant look on his face, arms raised in victory, but V wasn’t done. 

“Not for whatever reason Prince Smarming over here has, I just don’t like the noises.” Roman scowled, and Logan heaved a sigh. “What? They’re weird. I’ll still do it, but I’m not gonna do the boring stuff like makeup brushes on the mic or whatever.”

“Well, that’s three out of four,” Patton said, giving Roman a pleading look. “Come on, Ro, it’s just like acting! Quiet acting!” 

It wasn’t until Virgil gave him a lil nudge with his elbow and a ‘what’s actually wrong, you walnut’ look that Roman relented. 

“I’ll mess it up,” he said quietly, arms crossed over his chest. “I always mess stuff up. I know I’m the awkward one and it’s a different kind of funny or whatever, but it gets frustrating when all the comments are about it.”

“Oh, kiddo, the comments aren’t-”

“So what if you mess stuff up?” 

Patton scrunched his nose up, squeezed his eyes shut, and Logan just sighed again, but Virgil didn’t seem perturbed, even as Roman gave him a look that could only be described as betrayed.

“We’ve all messed up in the videos,” Virgil continues with a shrug. “Our whole channel is about trying stuff, Ro. People expect us to fail right off the bat.”

“Yeah, but all the time-?”

“I think you’re viewing it wrong.”

Roman’s face went deadpan. “How so, oh wise one?”

“I think,” Virgil started slowly, leaning an elbow on Roman’s shoulder and squinting, like he was deep in thought, “you’re less of the awkward one, and more of the... the lovable dork. All our grandma viewers just wanna pinch your cheeks,” he finishes with a cheeky smile, and pokes a blinking Roman’s face. 

There’s a beat of silence (mostly Logan and Patton watching like they’re at the movie theatre). 

“You think I’m lovable?”

Virgil’s face goes pink. “I think you’re a dork,” he says quickly, clearing his throat. “So are you gonna do the ASMR or not?”

Roman watches him for a second, but ultimately sighs, giving a resigned nod. 

“I suppose.”

They get all their miscellaneous supplies and start to come up with their lil scenarios

Patton and Lo are chillin with Emile when Em jokes that Patton should do something about being a dad, since it’s basically his crowning achievement

It’s just a joke, but Patton basically does the :0 face times ten. Emile faceplants into a pillow, because what has he done-

They all brainstorm a scenario for Logan - Pat suggests a teacher, since Lo’s his “nerdy moonbeam,” to which Emile groans into said pillow as his dads are sickly sweet 

(Honestly Logan only agrees because he gets to wear a bowtie)

Roman has a whole list of possible roles, but when he asks Logan, Pat, and Virgil what to do, Logan jokingly snarks, “How about something you can talk about for hours, like those camera angles you’re always nitpicking?”

Roman looks him in the eye, says, “I’m gonna be a doctor.” And flips him off.

Logan is not amused.

Virgil and Patton are very, very amused.

When they ask Virgil what he wants to do, he just whispers, “It’s a secret” in increasingly aggravated yet, somehow, mysterious tones until they stop asking

He comes in on filming day dressed as Ash and carrying a Pikachu pop figure. 

Logan is, again, not amused.

Patton and Roman are unimaginably amused.

In the end, Patton has an absolute blast, mostly because he spends most of the recording process trying to make Emile and Logan laugh from where they’re watching behind the camera

Logan also - surprisingly - has a blast. Patton theorizes it’s mostly because of the bowtie. 

(he would be correct)

Virgil has the time of his life making Logan contemplate his entire career as V refers to his pop figure as “best friend pikachu” completely seriously 

Roman is...very anxious going in for recording. But even as he gets a little overwhelmed with the flood of supplies, he catches Virgil’s eye off camera, and V gives him a thumbs up, and Ro laughs it off. 

(it helps that V also keeps suggesting Logan is a grandma friend through extensively complex miming)

((and that Logan is blatantly aware of it. Roman thinks he sees Lo throw a butterscotch candy at Virgil near the end of his filming))

It also helps that, after filming wraps up and they’re all changed back into some good ol’ casual clothing (even though Logan is still wearing the bowtie), V comes up to Ro. 

“You did great,” he says, quietly enough that Pat, Lo, and Emile can’t hear him. 

“Yeah?” Roman smiles. “Was it quality lovable-dork content?”

Virgil gives a tiny, crooked smile back. “Yeah, I’d say so.”

“Well, thank you, Virgil.” 

(and roman is pretty okay with being the lovable dork, in the end.)

thoughts on fandom (aka let’s see how many angry parx stans i can get to come yell at me again). disclaimer that this is just my opinion and no awsten knights were harmed in the making of this post:

1. Cherry Red-i really like this. v. good. wish it would’ve been longer. but maybe it’s short as a nod to the fact that awsten only had red hair for like a week

2. wwhn-amazing. show stopping. i love this song so much i don’t even care that aws is being overdramatic and ridiculous. 10/10. 

3. dream boy- i enjoy this song fine but i don’t adore it. strikes me as a less good sequel to stupid for you.

4. easy to hate- real drums! real guitar! automatically gets points! but other than that i’m honestly kind of ambivalent on it.

5. high definition- sad. gets me in my feelings. i’m into it. my only beef is the lack of geoff and otto which wouldn’t be a beef if it wasn’t a recurring problem on this album.

6. telephone- fun. reminds me of take her to the moon but like updated and more in line with awsten’s new style. this is a great blend of old parx and new parx. if there was more of this on the album i would have no complaint about the new sound.

7. group chat- wat. well i did want more geoff and otto so. 

8. turbulent- i know a lot of people don’t like turbulent but i really do. probably my third fave after wwhn and imhsbalidwda (maybe tied with telephone). it helps that it came out when i was going through a thing in my life that made me relate to it a lot. also i’m hype to hear it live cause it’s even better live.

9. never bloom again- different sound from high definition but the same vibe. i like high definition better though. see? liz can like new things. cause this sounds like lucky people and high def sounds like nothing they’ve ever done before and i like high def better. take that haters.

10. imhsbalidwda- so this is what the snippet at slam dunk was. i’m so mad cause i actually really like this song but the title makes me wanna cringe my skin off. there’s a deeper meta analysis there but that’s for another post or not one at all.

11. war crimes- did he write group chat when he realized he forgot to mention geoff and otto in this song and he wanted to make it clear that they were also his friends? aside from that it’s fine. my general thoughts pretty much apply to this.

13. worst- i was so hopeful that he would get geoff and otto on this track and clean it up before it was put on the album. instead he just cleaned it up. which i guess is better than nothing

15. ifywwm- also a good mix of old sound and new sound. good shit. i like the title.

general thoughts: i guess i understand how we got 15 tracks this time when so many of them so short/repeats. not a complaint, it’s still more content than a 10 track album, but i do wish some of them had been longer (cough cherry red cough). needs more geoff and otto, the number of songs with real drums and guitars are outnumbered by the ones that are just awsten on his own. and on that note the fact that awsten said geoff and otto have parts on the new album in a tweet in response to someone asking if they sang on it and he clearly just meant group chat is just...more of the same bs to be honest. also that whole “i deleted a whole album so that i didn’t make an album that was just about my ex” is officially confirmed as a whole ass lie more than half these songs are clearly about ciara. i wish glitter times and lemonade had survived somehow. the lyrics aren’t at awsten’s usual quality imo. is there a pixar song title on here that i missed somehow or are we just not doing that anymore? since it came out on national coming out day should have been more gay.

tl;dr: i stand by what i’ve been saying. i like the new sound but not as much as the old sound. i wish geoff and otto played on it more. awsten is a lying liar who lies. i still love all of them, even awsten. hype to see this live cause parx is one of the few bands who is way better live than recorded imo.
