main seasons:

I think Fantasy High Season 1 is a great start, Fantasy High 2 and 3 are also excellent if you like that one.

Unsleeping City season 1 is also a good one to start on, season 2 is also pretty good if you like that one

Crown of Candy is a bit more crunchy and fantasy-politically driven if that's your thing but its alright. Neverafter is one of my favorite main seasons it's really good though a lil dark. extremely funny. Starstruck Odyssey is very funny but it's the season i vibed with the least though its still good. i just watched it twice and i dont remember anything from it.

overall my favorites are the fantasy high series but unsleeping city is very good as well.

Side seasons:

Tiny heist and Pirates of Leviathan are a skip for me. Tiny Heist just wasn't great at all and Pirates of Leviathan had some like. blatant cheating that was really like. blatant and not fun. Pirates of Leviathan leans on lore from Fantasy High season 2, so watch that first if you want but its an easy skip for me.

The Ravening War was one of my favorite side seasons, building off of lore and world from Crown of Candy so watch that one first, but Matt is phenomenal as a DM and its so good. it's a lot more serious but it's very well done.

Mice and Murder is a great standalone mystery and i might get yelled at for this, but had one of the weaker casts. Genuinely, Grant and Rehka had the best chemistry of almost any cast members and they did a fantastic job and genuinely carried it on their shoulders. everyone else is kind of not very funny. I recommend it since its pretty short and beginner friendly though.

Dungeons and Drag Queens is SO FUN its so fucking FUN its really fun. i'm not into drag culture (yet) but man it's so much fun and had some genuine moments in it that made me tear up but also laugh so hard.

i didn't watch/finish:

misfits and magic, shriek week, fey and flowers, the seven, mentopolis, and burrow's end, though ive heard good things about most of those.

so my recommendation:

personal recommendation Fantasy High 1 > 2 > 3

yay ask box open! your designs are so lovely so I am very curious, how do your design choices for all three of your characters play into their lore?

AHHHH TY!! Oh man this is a bit of a dense question bc these guys' designs are very interwoven

Relé's is maybe the most straightfoward one, mostly because I haven't done his post-campaign fit yet. He's descended from a powerful fey and a minor air elemental deity, and his heritage actually caused him some major issues due to his physical body struggling to reconcile the divine power of both sides. Hence, the asymmetric crystal chunks, the tree-like branches- to represent the fey bits, and the cloudy hair, from his air genasi part. If you lookj closely, his belt and neck-piece have a shiny iridiscent crystal there. It's actually bismuth, from Urion- a bismuth earth genasi. His post campaign fit also includes some parts alluding to Yxala, like the brass gear with an orange X-shaped crystal. The X-pattern in the hanging cloth is also related to her.

Uri's design (pre-campaign on the left, during-campaign on the right) has a lot more going on. The pattern on the inside of the poncho is actually shared with the one Yxala had inside her cloak in her first design (done by @zephyrbug actually!), as well as the lil metal piece in the poncho- which Yxala also had in said design. Relent was introduced later on, but the crystals in the little hair rings are meant to be reminiscent of him. Their BBEG design has a few more allusions- Notice the gears as a necklace and earring. The X-shaped hair thingie for the ponytail also belonged to Yxala, and one of Relés branch is tied around one of the locs. Even the tail burning at the tip ties to Yxala- whose tail is on fire lol. Some of these details were actually also Zeph's idea, who designed their final boss look!!

I still need a clean ref for Yxala's post-campaign fit, but you can see a few things on the one of the right! The left was my first reference of her, and things have been adding ever since. The bismuth horn is meant to honor Uri, and she got it made after one of the BBEGs broke the original. She's also got a Relé branch tied around a braid, and another one to hold her ponytail. There are veins of bismuth and orange crystal in one of her arms and left side of the chest, referencing both Uri and Relent- (Who being an eladrin, does have an orange form!). These came up after she was resurrected after the final boss. She's also going to have one of these gear earrings when I get to her final design. Even the braids were meant to reference Urion. She ranged from braiding most of her hair at some point to just a few sparse ones, but it's still there.

Her armor design had a lot of callbacks too, including to characters outside the polycule, and a large wirey gauntlet also related to Uri's entire thing with wires.

So, um, yeah, these three have a lot of little reocurring motifs between themselves!! I can't wait to get the final references done >:3 Thank you so much for the question, and sorry for the wall of text!

Too easy, too broad, I'll just drip feed you a lil, and paste some old art to boot! Rynn: 1. Is the galactic equivalent of forklift certified since she was 15. 2. Mistrusts and strongly dislikes droids.

Barley: 1. Doesn't speak any language comprehensible by humans and mostly uses sign language. Might be mute. 2. Is remarkably clever and intelligent, which might be part of why she just couldn't stand hangin' round with most fauns.

Sarissa: 1. Has terribly short memory/attention span and has long since forgotten the actual charge she was sent to Toril to accomplish. 2. Is really not all that smart, but she IS wise to the ways of the fey, and how to deal with them. She is not gullible in the slightest and guards her true name well, much to the frustration of many she meets.

Back to thinking about the TF2 squad, but in a DnD setting.

I don't remember who posted this or where it was posted (and I wished I remembered it so much orz), but Sniper being a Firbolg is amazing and I love it so much and I want to give a big smooch to whoever thought about it first. Idk why, but Demoman as a Blood Hunter (with his subclass maybe being the Order of the Ghostslayer) makes my brain go haywire. Not sure whether to have him be a Minotaur, an Elf, or a half-Elf tho'. Leaning maybe towards one of the latter two. Maybe.

Spy being a Changeling Rogue (unsure what subclass to give him smh) is pretty fitting imo. Don't really have much else to add here lol

Scout would then be half-Human half-... Changeling? Fey? Elf? I have honestly no clue how that exactly works lol. As for his class... I have no clue as well. A part of me is leaning towards Monk, while another part of me is leaning towards Bard. *shrug*

I think it would be fun if Pyro is the only one in the group that's just straight up Human, with maybe some dragon ancestry waayyy back in their family tree, which let's them use Sorcerer spells. That, or let them go nuts with Wild Magic that they got from meeting a Unicorn.

Engineer being a Dwarf Artificer with the Battle Smith subclass that let's him have his own lil' robot turret puppy following him around :)

Heavy would be a Barbarian, but I'm unsure what subclass tho'. I'm leaning towards the Path of the Totem Warrior since one of the animals that can be chosen is the bear, which got quite some perks that fits him. Also unsure whether to have him be a Half-Orc, or a Goliath, or something else.

I just really like the idea of Medic being Tiefling and a Cleric for a God in the Trickery domain (*cough* Satan being the God of Trade or Deals or something *cough*), which let's him have access to the spell Disguise Self, which he uses to look like an Elf most of the time. Just yes :]

yes, The Ball's briefcase is just the normal briefcase model with TB on it, but hey they tried! I think they wanted to make a thing for each character, and they made 2 for both Fabian (the sheet and the jacket) and Fig (the bass and the wah-wah pedal) so they went light on Riz since his gear is pretty well-represented by stuff already in HF.

I couldn't get his eyes to look as dead as they do in the announcement, but I think it's close.

this is one of the new face presets - "Strong Steady Features". I don't care for it, both in general and for Riz specifically.

now that i've finished dual destinies here is how i'd rank the aa games that i've played.

this started as a bulleted list but then as always i ended up rambling forever, so, some of it is under the cut. spoilers for AA1-5 & AAI1. anything not listed is a game i've not yet played

1. Ace Attorney (1)

can't beat the original. ok so maybe the first time i played turnabout samurai i got so bored i took a 3 year break. that's not the point. i was weak. i think this game is the tightest and as the introduction to the concept and the characters it does a surprisingly good job of balancing and developing all of them. pretty satisfying arcs and relationships for every major character. also 1-4 and 1-5 are two of The best cases ever.

2. Ace Attorney 3/Trials and Tribulations

this one coasts on the strength of the dahlia throughline. all three of her cases are great. the fey lore develops so well and so interestingly, i loved getting a chance to play mia, dahlia is the best AA villain, bridge to turnabout has so many great things going on, edgeworth v franziska rules, phoenix investigating with franziska rules. it had some of my favourite puzzles and puzzle solving. the weak points that lose it top spot for me are that i didn't like how edgeworth and franziska evaporate from 3-5 in the second half, i wish maya had a bigger role in 3-5, and i don't enjoy anything about godot. also the two middle cases bored me to tears

3. Ace Attorney 2/Justice for All

this is a messier game than the above two for sure and i also thought it had the worst puzzle writing of the original trilogy. the magatama's use here is a bit clunky. i also think the way edgeworth's disappearance and return is handled is not quite as satisfying as it could've been for such a big emotional thing. the execution of the start of 2-4 with maya's kidnapping and engarde hiring phoenix could've been done much smoother.

BUT: i love the expansion of the fey lore, introduction of morgan and pearl and kurain, and franziska is my specialest little girl and i love that she's here. and 2-4, especially as it goes on, is such a good interesting case and some of the BEST character stuff for phoenix and edgeworth and truly made me unwell about the ship indefinitely. edgeworth hunched over his desk with bugged out eyes through gritted teeth "the prosecution... rests..." ??? peak romance

4. Ace Attorney 4/Apollo Justice

this is a really fun game that has the difficult task of introducing a lot of new characters and it pulls that off fairly well. apollo, trucy and klavier are all really fun. it's super interesting to see phoenix as an NPC and see what a mysterious galaxybrain he is when you're not given a front-row ticket to his scattered thoughts. i think the mystery writing here was coherent and pretty tight and i had fun solving the puzzles. 4-1 is one of the best tutorial cases for sure.

downside is that it's underbaked and you can tell. the new characters, while likable, barely get a chance to shine or really develop. apollo is not really much more than an avatar, the story is still about phoenix. and even when i'm enjoying the game, it just does honestly feel kind of... mean... the way the game drops every character from the trilogy and does what it does with phoenix.

5. Ace Attorney Investigations 1

fun pixel sprites, some fun new characters, it's cool to be able to walk my lil dude around and click on stuff. some of it is pretty funny. there's a surprisingly large variety of new female characters in different kinds of roles and personalities and designs and i always appreciate that.

the mysteries are not very good and the puzzles are frequently frustrating. the lack of trial day structure means the pacing feels wonky in many places. the returning characters are not written very well, franziska in particular is a flanderized shadow of herself, and most damning of all: edgeworth, the main character, is not written particularly well. the bratworth flashback in particular shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the character established by the trilogy imo.

6. Ace Attorney 5/Dual Destinies

this game had most of the same flaws as AAI and it didn't even have nice art or fun investigation banter to save it. i like athena a lot, i love aura and canon lesbians, it's nice to see phoenix as a lawyer again and get some confirmation edgeworth and the feys didn't fuckin die off screen. aa5 klavier is fucking hilarious. some of the new NPCs are funny s/o to the orca and plonco and robin.

the non-chronological plot was unnecessarily convoluted, the dark age of the law was emphasized so much only to be totally underdeveloped, the phantom plot twist was cool for three seconds and then pretty stupid in retrospect. apollo's storyline is a disaster. trucy has been replaced by an automaton that talks about panties. the lack of being able to investigate scenery makes the investigation days short, hurts character development and contributes the pacing that makes every final trial day feel interminably long and infuriating. too many plot twists rely on the game simply not providing evidence until the last second, at which point the twist becomes obvious. the nicest thing i can say for dual destinies is that it didn't irreparably break anything i loved in the previous games.

Sooooo they're a half drow, possibly going with the name Izz (which apparently means hidden/masked) monk (undecided yet on which monastic tradition to go for 🤔). They were a Hidden Blade but after refusing to complete a job, they rebelled against the order and fled, shattering the bonds of friendship (and maybe more) between their brothers and sisters of the order. They're now basically on the run from an order of hidden assassin's, and they want to bring down the Order if they can.

A little assassin's creed, a lil John Wick, a lil batman 😂 like, they were GOOD at what they did and aren't opposed to using their training, but realised the Order was corrupt and need to be stopped. The scope for background and extra character story stuff is insane!

I'm thinking the first feat is gonna be fey touched? Relates to being half elf and you get Misty Step (fine it's only once but its still cool 😅) or shadow touched for invisibility, unless I go for Way of the Shadow...

Not related to any characters I've made before, I've always made magic wielders so this would be like, the first martial character I would ever play 😊 but monks kick ass when they roll well!

It was definitely risky to make a trip to the Material Plane so close to the Bloom when Grandfather was already on her ass, but Chirp wasn’t regretting it then. In fact, the trip to see Esmé and Peep was even more needed with what was expected of her there. 

She found her escape from worrying about love matches and being on her best behavior as she sat on the floor of Peep’s bedroom, watching her daughter pour her a cup of “tea”. The plastic teacup was too small for her hands, with a little peacock design on the side, but she took a sip from it like it was the most precious china from Grandfather’s collection. 

“Ooh, this is delicious,” Chirp said, grinning. It was merely apple juice, but Peep lit up.

“Thank you, Mama,” Peep said. It couldn’t have been that long since her last visit, surely, but mortals grew up so fast. She looked much more like Esmé than her, but she’d taken after her in one aspect - her magic. Thankfully, she was far too young to start slinging spells, but it only made hiding her and her mother from the other fey in her family much harder. 

The door opened as Esmé joined them, a plate of cookies in hand. “I hope you didn’t get started without me!” 

“The tea was starting to get cold,” Chirp told her as she sat on the ground, setting down the cookies. 

“Be careful, they’re hot,” she warned as Peep started to grab one. She leaned over to Chirp and whispered, “Thank God for frozen cookie dough.”

“You mortals are so clever,” she joked.

“We gotta have something for when someone decides to come over from an impromptu tea party.”

“I just knew I’d be busy for a while and had to make time to see my two favorite girls.”

Esmé snorted as that, picking up a cup. “Lil’ Peep, may I please have some tea?”

“Here you go, Mommy.” Peep filled her cup as Chirp nibbled on a cookie. 

Many Fey would call anyone who tried to tell them that the infamous Lady Chirp Featherfowl snuck off to the mortal realm to drink apple juice from plastic china. Yet she enjoyed her time here immensely, even if the carpet chafed her feathers and she couldn’t break out her flask in front of Peep.

“Mama, is it true you used to fly around with Mommy?” Peep asked, breaking her out of her train of thought. 

“Oh, yes. The first time, I didn’t know that she had a little bit of a thing against heights and she shook so hard I almost dropped her,” Chirp recalled with glee. Esmé pouted, but she pressed a kiss to her cheek. “But she got used to it.”

Peep lit up, nearly spilling her juice in her excitement. “Can you take me flying?”

It was hard to disappoint her little girl, but she didn’t want to lie to her. “Maybe someday,” she said. “I had to give that up when you came around.”

“Why?”

“I had to choose between flying and you two. And I chose you and your mommy.” She certainly missed flying, but the exhilaration of having a secret was almost as good as soaring through the sky. “When you’re old enough, I can teach you how to fly.” And well, maybe Peep wouldn’t inherit that particular power. But there were spells.

That was the thing about children, they overcame their disappointment quickly. At the prospect of being able to fly just like her mama had used to, she became excited again.

Esmé scooped her up and said, “Don’t forget your other mommy can help you fly too!” She stood up and lifted Peep above her head, albeit with a little struggle. “Let’s go!”

Chirp leaned back as she watched the two of them. Definitely worth the risk to get a few moments of this.

Hob reads a bunch of romance novels to try to learn how to woo Rue ahead of their arranged marriage, but it just gives him those "no means yes or at least try again" "be an ornery asshat, fey will swoon" ideas, and is SO focused on complimenting Rue's physical beauty. So the first attempts. go bad.

Then he's like "well. Lord Airavis has a reputation for having a lot of lovers. Maybe i should seek his counsel."

His advice makes things Worse until Squak realizes it's Rue that Hob is trying to romance and Squak is like "okay my guy you are gonna throw out everything you have learned Rue is a tough nut to crack but they enjoy stuffy decorum and genteel manners. Plus a lil nasty flirting if you have it in you" and Hob is like but wait stuffy decorum and genteel manners is what i'm all about??

They get on well, Georgie explaining the finer points of survival in the wild, and comforting Sosiel as he discovers the horrors of war

Daeran - Friendly rivals is a better term. They both find joy in irritating the nobles around them, and while Georgie is the bare minimum of respectful to their faces, he shows his storytelling skills aren't just for bringing joy- or well they can bring joy of another kind, as Daeran delights in his new friends witticisms and ability to match him story for story and mocking epithet for mocking epithet.

Double Trouble for every time Dae mocks someone, at least half of the time hes mocking Dae back so thats something??

A one off quest will be triggered by walking in on him summoning his creatures just to hang out, noting that he calls them by the same names, and talking with him about how they are friends of his that he summons to his sides in battle

Hes a lil Fey<3 as a treat<3 dont ask how he made friends with a cheetah, or any of the larger and rarer creatures, as you will be subject to along story about them where your not quite sure if hes pulling your leg or not. still his summons are smarter than average, and clearly all fond of him

He will tap his hands on his thighs, in a musical pattern, or mock conduct in the air. If a lot of time has passed he will pick something of the ground and fiddle with it [he carves it with his knife] If lots and lots of time has passed, he will sit down and a green glow will appear, which he starts talking to. It's one of his summons.

Georgie is just a farm boy who's good with his fiddle. If he can help people, he's happy to, although he would like to make it home in time for the harvest. He likes to say he is enchanted by the story like aspect of it all, and wants to be able to speak the truth of the commanders story, but he's far from home in an area that dislikes his kind, and as quick as he is with a bow, and as friendly as the Fae are with him, its a long journey alone, and caravans willing to take him are few. Still he is speaking the truth, even if not the whole one.

We want to see our dear Georgie every year” Georgie stands up, turning towards the commander with a fond but sad smile, as the scenario fades.  “I guess I won't be making it back in time this year, the kiddos will have to pitch in my share. Still I hope everyone is doing well in my absence, I will have to explain that im having the adventure of a lifetime [if Georgie is friendly or approves of the commander, he will continue] with you, maybe i can bring you back as proof so i don't end up with all the horrible chores, after all of this is over i think you need a break.”

its when everyone comes together to get him to pursue his dream of being a traveling bard. he doesn't need the commander to snap him out of the dream.

I particularly enjoy the fairy and gardener dmc fics. I have two requests. First, tell me which flower would perfectly describe you. Second, there’s this strange dmc prompts that has been brewing in my head for some time and I felt you’re just the person to ask. So let’s say that fae exist in dmc universe just like demons. The reader have been kidnapped by a fairies as a baby and it took them some years to get back to human world with some considerable changes to their appearance, personiality (making them a bit goofy and weird) and a small set of magical powers of their own. They dedicated their life in guarding crossroads between human and fey world, being sort of a mediator as well as fairy hunter. Basically same as Dante but with Fae.

Hello, Al! Sorry it took awhile for me to get to this, but I am indeed having a good right now. And it makes me so happy to hear that my writing and lil flowery nook of the net is still enjoyed 🌹🥰🌹

A flower that would describe me perfectly…the first one that popped into my head were sweetbriar roses. I love all types of roses, but sweetbriar is very dear to my heart. I used to pick them from the woods near my house, make pretty bouquets and wear them in my hair along with the honeysuckles and daffodils. They were my favorite though, and I love their meaning: sympathy and comfort. So many memories behind that small pink flower…and pricked fingers getting them off the brambles. But it was worth it. 

And yaaaas I love bringing the Fae into the DMC universe! And your idea of the changling is absolutely marvelous! I actually had similar ideas and daydreams about bringing all manner of Fae in my DMC fics. There’s just so many possibilities and creative things you can do with two worlds colliding like that. I found it very enjoyable while writing Fairies May Cry and maybe one day writing more in other flowery fics, and I’d read the hell out of a fic about a changling fae hunter any day! The powers, the weapons, the pure and utter chaos…sign me up! 😂

I did this in like, maybe ten-ish minutes today? Might have been faster, I didn’t time myself. But regardless, it came out so fricking cute I couldn’t keep it to myself.

So, have an Anetta inspired by the session from like, two? weeks ago where our team bullied the crap out of a very depressed widower arch-fey, who seemed especially uncomfortable when my lil technomancer warlock was around. She COULD have stayed in the van, but her curiosity got the better of her and well, much anxious squeaking was had. (One of our players was actually trying to measure the pitch of the squeaks I was making and it was honestly hilarious.)
