i finished a new media so now it’s time for ATLA PRIDE HCs WOOOO!!!
so aang is unlabeled (and doesn’t identify as unlabeled either 💀💀) in all areas basically. he loves freely and doesn’t see gender or sex. he doesn’t see it in himself either. he mostly presents and refers to himself as a dude, but he found out he doesn’t mind being seen as a lady either. he’s crushed on katara and zuko during different points in his life, but he settled on katara. functionally, he’s pan and genderfluid.
katara is queer. she is the most unqueer queer ever though. she acts straight as a board I tell ya. she doesn’t really confine herself to labels much either, but she can tell you she was surprised at how much she enjoyed Lady Aang when that first became a thing.
sokka is bi. he probably thought men were supposed to marry women, but he quickly got over it when he got over his short lived misogyny. bi awakening wasn’t really a thing, he just sorta knew he always liked boys and girls. he’s had many crushes, but yue and suki are the ones that always stood out the most for him. obvi he dabbles in drag, that’s like sorta a canon thing. zuko’s autistic charms get to him and he ends up developing a crush on him.
toph is an aroace lesbian. she only dates the finest of women. she can tell she’ll read your heart with her feet.
zuko is gay like GAAAYYYY I don’t mean to bring accidental cheesy puns into this but he is a FLAMING homosexual, and I refuse to believe otherwise. at some point I said “I like zutara, but I just think atla is way funnier when in the back of your mind, zuko is gay.” anyways he’s gay and sex repulsed. zuko didn’t know he liked boys until he was 17, and he didn’t realize he was completely gay until a year later. he was very comphet and was always expected to produce a blood heir, and he didn’t think much of it. looking back, zuko noticed how he did find boys cute when he was younger and often avoided them because of it. he could sense that he and his sister were different, but he always thought that was because they were royalty. he only really started dating mai because they had so much in common, he thought that’s what was supposed to happen. when zuko, not long after becoming fire lord, realized he liked boys, he kept it to himself. a year later when he realized he only liked boys, he vented about it to mai, and she helped him through it. they broke up, but he still values her friendship. zuko finally gets with sokka in his 20s. yeah it took that long.
OTHER CHARACTERS THAT AREN’T GAANG THAT COME TO MIND!!
azula is a LESSSBIAAAAN that is a lesbian
I wanna say suki and ty lee are dating
smeller bee is definitely trans I don’t wanna hear it
uncle iroh doesn’t care. he loved his wife whatever happened to her, and he would also date a man.
EDIT: sorry just here to say that zukaang is endgame actually. they get together in aang’s mid to late 20s after pining for a long time. aang always had sorta an underlying unspoken crush on zuko, and zuko caught feelings when aang shot up taller than him and he realized aang got really handsome. and yknow. the fact that THEY’RE SOULMATES.

MASTERLIST • AO3 LINK A rewrite of the ball scene from averyjameson’s point of view Not proofread
Tumblr media
“You know, Heiress,” Jameson began as he tied the back of her dress. “While they all struggle with the game and rip their hair out –though Grayson already has enough bald spots-, we could just run off and get married.”
She could feel his breath on her nape, now in faster puffs speeding along with his heartbeat. Jameson couldn’t help but stare. It wasn’t just her bare back nor the familiar little mole under her right shoulder that bewitched him and made his heart race. No, it was the way her hair was laid provocatively over the front of her shoulder, displaying her back to him. The way the soft light shone on the curve of her neck in an alluring manner, taunting and waiting for him to pepper some bites and kisses along it.
“Married? But we’re dressed in dark blue,” Avery shot back, a small smile playing on her lips. Jameson could get drunk on the way she looked at him. If the twinkle in her eyes that she always had with him were the last thing he’d see, he’d die a happy man.
“Why not? As lovely as you’d look in white, you know I never did mind being a bit more,” he paused, “unconventional.” The corner of his lips curled up into his signature sly smirk. “Oren could officiate, and Tiramisu can be the witness.”
He took a step back, finally done tying her up, though he couldn’t help but imagine it was a different set of straps and laces he’d been tying. Avery turned around, handing him a silver necklace to clasp onto her neck, and he did. His knuckles brushed against the soft expanse of skin, bringing the jewelry up to the dip at the bottom of her throat where her collarbones peeked out. He made a mental note to leave a mark there later. Then, last but not least, the mask. It was adorned with black gemstones and purple around the eyes, with tendrils of black and gold weaving in spirals and swirls. It had been designed to match both her dress and Jameson’s suit, both a deep midnight purple. Avery’s dress had silvery stitching along the layered skirt to make it look like moonlight on water, while Jameson’s suit had small, embroidered pearls with silver gemstones along the sleeves and the hem to make it look as though the moon itself was dripping onto the water.
His mask was identical to hers, though instead of purple gemstones lining the eyes, he had short strands of the same pearls as on his suit dangling from the bottom of his mask.
Just as he was about to offer his arm out for her, the laptop connected to the video surveillance cameras let out a high-pitched ding, letting them know that someone had entered the library. Lyra Catalina Kane. She was a mystery to both of them, since Grayson seemed to know her prior to the game. The coincidence that they knew each other wasn’t something neither Avery nor Jameson could ignore. The Kane girl hadn’t gotten in by invitation; she’d been one of the wild cards.
Avery had done her little investigation on Lyra. Is it Lee-ra? Lie-ra? She lived with her biological mother and stepfather, and her biological father’s name was Thomas. Thomas, like when Grayson came asking for a ‘Thomas’ that might be on the List. There was.
She still had an itch in the back of her head, telling her something was off. Either Lyra had a hidden agenda, or someone on the outside messed with her game, intentionally making sure Lyra got one of the tickets. The only person she could think of was Eve, but they haven’t crossed paths ever since last year’s game.
“Maybe you should go talk to her,” Jameson suddenly said. “You know, get a taste of her personality and see if she’s hiding something.”
“With all the tension in between them, what are the chances Grayson is out there waiting for her behind a bookshelf to make out?” She retorted, raising an eyebrow. “I don’t want to walk in and have to see that.” With that, she pressed a small kiss to Jameson’s cheek as a goodbye, stepping out the door of their room.
She made her way through the dimly lit halls, feeling a pair of eyes on her. Of course Oren was still tailing her even when the island was perfectly secure, even safer than the Hawthorne House. There was no discreet way in or out of the island since it was surrounded by water.
Finally, she made it to the library. It was circular and stretched so far up you couldn’t see its ceiling. She tried her best to step as lightly as she could without making a noise. Even the slightest sound would echo through the room and ruin the element of surprise. The mystery appearance would be in her favour, she supposed.
She finally spotted her target, who was staring around in awe.
“I’m a sucker for libraries,” she spoke up from behind Lyra. “Circular ones in particular.”
Avery cringed internally. Wow, so smart. Out of all the things she could have said, really? Even after being the Hawthorne heiress for so long, she still lacked social skills and didn’t really know how to start conversations.
Lyra slightly jumped, turning around to face her. Lyra’s gown was a dark navy blue with a tulle skirt that faded into a light pastel blue like waves.
Her surprise seemed genuine. Avery didn’t know what to feel at the way Lyra was staring at her.? Nervous? Lowkey uncomfortable but still flattered? She’d been used to people staring at her for the wrong reasons, never because they were in awe of her or what she was wearing like Lyra was. Then again, the dress was a far cry from the torn dirty jeans and the loose shirt she’d wear back when she lived in her car. She could still feel the phantom laughs, snickers and sneers of her old classmates.
“It’s beautiful,” Lyra said, tearing her gaze away from Avery to look back at the shelves.
“And you don’t trust beautiful things?” Avery asked, tilting her head.
Lyra’s expression shifted, recognizing her. “You’re Avery Grambs.”
She held back a laugh. Really? Had Lyra really thought she was Brady? After all, there was only one player the Kane girl had yet to meet.
“I was you once,” she smiled. “Trusting people wasn’t exactly my forte, either. But if I could give you a little advice, going into this game?” Oh, what a lie. She hadn’t ever been like Lyra. Both in life context and personality. New Avery, though, told people exactly what they wanted to hear. Every little thing and detail the media expected from her, she did and said.
Her little line of empathy must have worked, because Lyra still had that faint awe-struck look. “Like I’m going to turn down advice from the person who masterminded all of this?” the girl answered.
“Sometimes,” she answered, “in the games that matter most, the only way to really play is to live.”
When Lyra looked away, she took the chance to quickly run away, thankful for the soft slippers that didn’t thump when her feet hit the floor. She crossed her fingers, silently hoping that it had looked like a mysterious disappearance and that Lyra hadn’t actually seen her running off like a dramatic Victorian lady.
She ran as fast as she could back up to her bedroom. She hated running, especially in slippers. She flung open the door, panting like a dying dog. Jameson was waiting, laid back on the bed dramatically.
“Finally, Heiress, I thought you were going to leave me here to starve and die.” He got up languidly, still faking boredom and a yawn. “Our own ball already started.”
As if on cue, she heard slow instrumental music floating up from the Great Room through the door she’d left open.
“Which entrance would be the most dramatic?” she asked as she put on her heels.
“Dramatic? But I’d rather enter discretely so that I can have you all to myself to dance all night without anyone watching us,” he replied, taking her hand in his. The spiraling staircase only added to Avery’s dizziness that was sparked whenever Jameson touched her.
People, a sea of tuxedos, dresses, and masks, were already in the Great Room. Jameson led her through the crowd and all the way to the center, where some people had begun to dance. Before the day Grayson appeared in her school’s office, asking for her, she’d always been on guard everywhere she went. On the streets, in her car, at school… With Jameson, he could just lead her everywhere by the hand like she was a puppy. She didn’t have to look around cautiously and constantly be on the lookout. She trusted him. Though when they made public appearances, she was the one who took charge.
At the center, he let go of her hand, raising his palm up while facing her. “Shall we dance, Heiress? I’m sure dancing was one of the first things Alisa made sure you learned.”
She raised an eyebrow, pressing her palm to his as they walked slowly around each other. It’s a seductive type of dance, she’d been told. “And what if I didn’t? It can’t be that hard. We just spin around each other, barely even touching.”
“You don’t have to touch for a dance to be or look intimate,” he said, looking down at her and bringing his face closer to hers just the slightest bit. Enough to taunt her, but not close enough to kiss. Her breath caught in her throat, a small hitch that she was sure Jameson could hear.
She mustered her lips up into a smile, but really, she wanted to pull him down, dance be damned, and kiss him until she couldn’t feel her lips from his nibbles. “Oh really?” She looked around, making sure nobody was watching. After all, Jameson’s passionate eyes and red ears were only hers to see.
She slid her outstretched palm down his forearm, not breaking step, until she reached his nape, bringing his head down until his forehead was against hers.
“I think this is much more intimate, don’t you think?” she whispered, her breath warm on his lips. She glared up at him playfully when he ignored the cue to kiss her. “We still have five minutes before we need to start the game.”
His green eyes were smoldering, the usual smirk gone from his face. “Heiress, with you dressed up like that, five minutes isn’t enough.”
He cupped her cheek, careful not to smudge her makeup. As much as he loved seeing her face messy, her lipstick smudged around from kisses and her eyes screwed shut in bliss, she would probably kill him for it later. He finally lowered his lips down to hers, tilting her head slightly to the right the way she liked it. Their lips slotted together perfectly, moving in tandem, always in sync with each other. It was moments like this that Avery lived for and had longed for her entire life.
Between kisses, he rested his forehead against hers again, taking a breath. “Wait for me before you take this dress off tonight?” he said, taking in a ragged breath. “It would be a shame to waste such an opportunity.” With that, he leaned to kiss her again.

Katara made it very clear that she never ever wants to see Yon Rah again and most of the Zutara fandom supports that decision of hers.
So I guess the possible downside of Katara choosing to marry Zuko means sharing Zuko's burden of reforming and rehabilitating depraved war criminals like Yon Rha and all those who are even worse than him.
Then there's this whole thing with Aaron Ehasz imagining Zuko being Azula's Iroh and she reforms in that way along with my and a few other's ideas of Aang showing her how open and master her own chakras. Speaking of Iroh, does anyone remember his ruthless and brutal 600-day siege anymore? There's no way he'd avoid dropping bodies that whole time.
Looks like Katara will ironically be taking Aang's advice about forgiveness after all but I don't think it'll be necessary for Katara to look for Yon Rah again and say so.
What do you think?
Tw: War crimes, genocide and nazism.
Disclaimer: I don't know what actually happened post canon. I tried to look on internet forums and it seems as the topic wasn't addressed in the comics. For this answer, I'm going under this assumption.
Sorry for not getting to this sooner, life got busy and I didn't want to give some half assed answer to such a delicate topic. There's a lot to comment on so I'll break this down step by step.
"Katara choosing to marry Zuko means sharing Zuko's burden of reforming and rehabilitating depraved war criminals"...
The fire nation commited atrocious war crimes, leaving them with with many war criminals. War crimes are more than punishable. If it were real life, neither Katara or Zuko would have to reform and rehabilitate any of them.
An example of this would be the Nuremberg trials after WW2. Even recently, in 2022, Irmgard Furchner (an 98 year old women) faced a trial for being a secretary of a concentration camp (to put it lightly, she was very much a murderer). No one is getting away with their actions.
I read the relevant section from a Red Cross's document titled "Analysis of the punishments applicable to international crimes (war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide) in domestic law and practice". (The section being "States’ obligations under IHL to prosecute and punish international crimes").
I found something interesting. (ID in alt text).
Tumblr media
*Grave breaches are more serious, vile violations of humananitarian law. Everything above applies to "genocide and crimes against humanity".
If Katara were in a position of power in the Fire Nation, not only would she not have to reform anyone, she also might get to help with the trials for them.
"Then there's this whole thing with Aaron Ehasz imagining Zuko being Azula's Iroh"
I don't know about his plans for Aang's other ideas, so I can't comment on them. What I did find was a short thread of his. And after reading it, I maintain that – like most ideas – his vision can work with sensitive execution.
Azula was still very much a 14 year old victim of grooming when the series took place. Her brother can help her through her redemption under one condition – the desire to be better should come from her.
He shouldn't sit through any mistreatment whatsoever. He'll guide her through a path he already went through, but she has to walk with him. Azula needs to be safe for Zuko. Only then, redemption would be possible.
"does anyone remember [Iroh's] ruthless and brutal 600-day siege anymore?"
The difference between Iroh and Yon Rah is what they're up to now. In the present Yon Rah is just some guy living with his mother. Meanwhile Iroh took back Ba Sing Se from Fire Nation colonizers.
Yon Rah isn't out here fixing his mistakes, he just got off scot-free. On the other hand, Iroh is a changed man and took action to correct his past on the same scale.
At the end of the day redemtion isn't Aang's idea. It's one of the major themes of Atla. It wants to show that people can change and grow. So it does. Zuko changes, Mai changes, Ty Lee changes, and Iroh is their future.
He tried to conquer Ba Sing Se, and now he took it back from conquerors. He was the worst of them all, and now he's unrecognizable. He's warm, wise and sweet. There's a meaning to it.
That doesn't mean that war criminals in the current day, scums who made no affort, will get away with their crimes. That doesn't mean Katara would have to go through the mental torture of reforming her colonizers.
That is it! I hope I didn't come off as aggressive, I didn't mean to. Thank you for the ask, sorry for taking me forever to write this, and have a lovely day!

Revised Steambabies headcanons (plus Azula Redemption)
About 3 years after getting married, Zuko and Katara had their first child, Izumi. She looked just like Ursa except with blue eyes and wavy hair like Katara’s. Izumi was clearly a waterbender, which raised concern on who would take the throne. Times were slowly getting better, but the Sages and Nobles still refused to have a waterbender on the Fire Throne. Nonetheless Zuko and Katara fought hard for their daughter to keep her birthright.
About three years later, when Katara was heavily pregnant with their second child, a coup takes place and an assassin made an attempt on Izumi's life. Zuko saved her but Izumi's eye was cut badly, leaving a permanent scar. Cruelly in the same place as Zuko’s scar; something Zuko never truly forgave himself for.
After escaping, the royal couple sought help from June and her apprentice in training Mai. Commotion happens. They retake the palace just in time for Kya's arrival. She's identical to Azula with rich brown skin like her mother.
With the recent coup and new daughter, Zuko is spurred to visit his twin sister. Upon arriving at the asylum, Zuko discovered the abuse going on there. He fired the staff, got the girls actual help, and brought Azula to her old room in the palace.
Azula was not fairing well after years of abuse in the asylum. She was malnutritioned, head shaved, and mute. Nothing the royal couple did helped. Not until Kya, now a toddler, sneaked in and showed Azula her flames. The next day, Azula was gone. No amount of searching could find her.
Life goes on. The gaang find Ursa who was thrilled to meet her granddaughters.
Tensions rose as Kya's firebending grew and formed a rivalry with Izumi. Not nearly as bad as Zuko and Azula’s but it was still there, which greatly worried Zuko. Katara oftened played mediator and ensured the girls got along for the most part. The parents taught the girls both waterbending and firebending and encouraged them to learn from each other.
Years later, when Zuko and Aang are summoned back to the Sun Warriors temple to pick up the dragon egg, they find Azula alive and well. She had been accepted into the tribe and was in a much better mental state. The siblings make up, but Azula refused to return to the Fire Nation. She asked Zuko to keep her fate secret but gave letters addressed to Mai and Ty Lee. Zuko promised to deliver them.
When the girls were 10 and 8, Katara had a surprise pregnancy. The surprise furthered when the baby turned out to be twins! No one picked up on it because their heartbeats were in sync with each other.
Iris and Iroh II both greatly resembled Katara except with purple eyes, which is a rare blue-eyed mutation. Both are nonbenders. Despite being identical, the twins' personalities couldn't be more different. While Iris was extroverted and took a liking to weapons, Iroh II was more introverted and preferred reading Ursa’s plant books.
Zuko had the hardest time connecting with his son thanks to the lingering trauma from Ozai, but they eventually bond over plays and literature.
Izumi and Kya also make up in their teens. Izumi willingly stepped down as Crown Princess and trained to take over Katara’s former job as Southern Water Tribe ambassador. Kya left train with her aunt Azula and the Sun Warriors for a while before taking over the throne. Iris moved to Kysohi Island and became captain of the warriors when Suki stepped down to start a police force in Republic City. And Iroh II studied medicine in the Northern Water Tribe.
Despite being spread all across the world, the family still made time to reunite a couple of times a year.

Miraculous Gaang
Ok so. Ideas.
Sozin Actually used to be part of the Guardian Order, but got into a fight with them over the fact that they are just sitting on these objects of power, not using them to “improve” the world. Eventually results in Sozin stealing the Peacock, then him and Roku duking it out, the Order getting destroyed, and Sozin spending the rest of his life searching for the rest of the Miraculous. Roku dies making sure other people can escape. So, total count of people who manage to flee the Order imploding:
Sozin, with a damaged Peacock Miraculous he can’t use now. He starts his company as a cover to search for the rest of the Miraculous, but he turns out to be a very good business man, so is actually successful. He eventually marries, has kids, and imparts on them the knowledge of the Miraculous, hoping one of them will succeed where he failed.
Roku’s girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time. Of course, the Order didn’t know they were dating, or that she was pregnant. Moves to another city, rebuilds a life, has her kid. Eventually tells them of the Miraculous, when explaining what happened to Dad.
A small assortment of monks, who immediately go into hiding to “preserve their knowledge”.
Gyatso, who was a child at the time. Roku entrusted the kid with the Miracle Box, under the assumption the other monks would protect him when they found him. Instead, Gyatso ended up mostly on his own, and has vowed to protect the Miracle Box as best he can.
Other idea, that Gyatso mostly uses the Turtle, which extends his lifespan, but briefly, much later, tried to use the Butterfly to help people, which resulted in it getting lost, someone dying, and Gyatso adopting baby!Aang. He is trying REAL HARD to balance “Good Parent, let kids be kids, freedom is important” with “Guilt™, Protective™, Oh God, I can’t let you get hurt like that”.
Then, so far, I think we have:
- Ladybug!Sokka
- Black Cat!Katara
- Turtle!Aang
- Dragon!Zuko
- Rabbit!Yue
- Pig!Jin
- Bee!Ty Lee
- Mouse!Mai
- Fox!Azula, or Monkey!Azula
- Tiger!Toph, or Ox!Toph
- Tiger!Suki, or Snake!Suki (for the record, I feel like the weapons could change a bit to match the wielder, so Suki could still have fans)
Also, if this isn’t Paris, we can just set it in Modern Style, Ba Sing Se?
(thoughts, feelings, opinions, ideas?)
-
Okay okay okay
So I think my main thought is that we now have an explaination of sorts for the Ursa/Ozai pairing.
Which is that ofc Sozin passed the torch of looking for the Miraculous to Azulon, and he eventually discovered Roku’s descendants. Azulon looks at that and goes ‘hey my youngest son is single and roughtly the same as that girl. Ozai you up to seduce her for information?’.
I don’t think Ursa would fall for him. Partly because she def still had her own fiance already but also like. Ozai can only do so much ‘charming’. So he probably ends up intimidating her into a relationship. Either because he’s trying to get information, or from some entitled ‘how dare you turn me down?’ thing.
I think I’m gonna lock in Tiger!Toph and Snake!Suki. And Azula with the Fox is too tempting considering Vulpyro.
Also yeah It doesn’t have to be Paris. Some modern city. Idk if i’d use Ba Sing Sae like it works but I think there could be like a name for the city itself while the different districts are named after the atla locations.
My thoughts on the Peacock:
/technically/ it’s not needed, but I can have some fun. I know it was mentioned on giving it to Azula, but I want Azula unaware of what Ozai’s doing. Mostly because she has more of an early redemption (she was still in contact with Zuko and Iroh so while she’s not fully redeemed she’s not loyal to him), so if she knew what he was doing she’d rat him out. He’s mostly using her to rile people up to be Akumatized.
So we have two options for the Peacock in my mind. One  is the OC I had made for the Avatar!Ty Lee AU because she’s /basically/ Nathalie if she was more unhinged and evil.
The second one is Zhao because tbh while we dunk on him at times, he was Book 1′s main villain and was actually good at what he was doing.

Day 2- Meet the Family
Ty Lee x Azula
A/N: I enjoyed this prompt, it kind of ended up as a crack fic
You can also read it here on archive of our own
Ty Lee was, understandably, nervous. Meeting with the Firelord and the Firelord’s family was no small thing, even more so when you’re being introduced to them as their daughter’s girlfriend. Azula noticed her nervousness.
“You’ll be fine. They love you already.” she reassured Ty Lee,
“Yes, but that was back when I was your friend. That doesn’t mean they would be happy that you want to settle down with me.” she bit on her lip until it bled,
“Are you suggesting you want to get married?” Azula asked, cool as ever,
“You are not helping.”
“I promise, they’ll all love you. Didn’t my mom always say that she wished we would stay friends forever? We’re just fulfilling her dreams, so don’t worry.” she says with a wink,
“I’m more worried about your dad.” Azula squeezes her hand reassuringly,
“I’ll be right here with you the entire time, it’ll be fine.” Ty Lee gave her an unconvinced glance but took a deep breath, and stepped through the doos,
“Mom! Dad! Zuzu! I gotta tell you something!” Azula called,
“Why did you have to summon us to the garden in the middle of the day?” Zuko asked,
“Is your hearing impaired Zuko? I just said I had something to tell you all.” Azula sniped back,
“Kids, not the time. Azula, what do you want to tell us?” Ursa interrupts just as Zuko opens his mouth to protest,
“She’s pregnant.” Ozai said solemnly, Azula rolled her eyes.
“What? No- Dad I’m not pregnant. Will you let me finish my sentence?” Ty Lee had to cough into her hand to stifle a giggle.
“So you guys know Ty Lee and I are friends right?” Azula finally starts,
“She’s pregnant.” Ozai declares confidently,
“Ozai! Nobody is pregnant!” Ursa chastises, punching his shoulder
“You are.” he says sulkily,
“No I’m- wait what?” Ty Lee watched this exchange with a renewed interest. This was sure to be an interesting story to tell her and Azula’s kids. Her face temporarily reddened at the thought of her and Azula, and the future, and the prospect of having kids.
“Can we worry about this later? I still need to tell you guys something.” Azula’s voice interrupts her train of thoughts,
“Then just tell us Lala, we literally found out that we’re having a new sibling before we found out about your cryptic message.”
“I told you to stop calling me that, anyways will you all please be quiet.” Now it was Ty Lee’s turn to put a reassuring hand on her shoulder Azula took a deep breath before continuing,
“What I’ve been trying to tell you is that Ty Lee and I are dating.” there was no response. Ty Lee stiffened, stepping back. She waited for the yelling to start, for either Ursa or Ozai to start blaming each other for the way Azula turned out-
None of that happened.
What did happen was that Ozai took off his glasses and sighed,
“Dad?” Azula asked tentatively and Ursa came to rest her hand on her daughter’s shoulder,
“Don’t pay him any mind dear, he’s just bitter that he owes me thirty gold.” Azula furrowed,
“Wait- why does he owe you 30 gold-” Ty Lee started, before realizing,
“You had a bet going on whether Ty Lee and I got together?” Azula all but shrieked,
“Not whether, but when. If you had confessed a week later I would’ve lost, so thank you sweetheart.” Ursa put her other hand on Ty Lee’s shoulder, “But sincerely I want to give my congratulations, I’m so happy you have found each other, and wish you many years of happiness.”
“Thank you.” Ty Lee replies just as sincere and Ursa patted her shoulder,
Zuko stepped forward and put a tentative hand on her shoulder,
“I think this is the part where I threaten you and tell you if you ever hurt my sister I’ll make your life hell etc.” he said with uncertainty, Ty Lee immediately tenses,
“You don’t have to!” she added helpfully,
“Oh good, it didn’t feel right.” Ty Lee let out a sigh of relief, “Anyways, I owe Mai twenty dollars, so if you’ll excuse me.” and Zuko exits without another word,
Azula squeezed her hand and leaned over, kissing her cheek
“I told you they’d love you.” she whispered into her ear,
“You were right.” Ty Lee laughed, and Azula smiled back at her, which never failed to make her stomach do acrobatics.
“Now then, Ozai, what the hell do you mean I’m pregnant? I mean, I feel I would know before you did.” Ursa asked,
“Well when you had your physical check up last week, the physician’s noticed something abnormal, and when I checked in with them yesterday they said it was most likely a pregnancy. I didn’t have the time to tell you until right now.” he stated matter-of-factly,
“Don’t think of the implications.” Ty Lee whispered into Azula’s ear,
“What do you mean- Spirits! Ty Lee, I wasn't even thinking of that.” Azula lets go of Ty Lee’s hand to cover her face. Ty Lee laughed, wrapping her arms around Azula’s shoulder. She leaned against her shoulder content to live in this moment forever.
A/N: Ozai? Ursa? Being good parents? It’s more likely then you think.

Deadpool Anon here!
Could I get #1 Soulmates AU for Zutara please?!
Hello, deadpool anon!! Of course you can!!
This is in the regular universe but in this universe I'm going with a classic tattoo AU where everyone has a tattoo describing their soulmate
Every since Zuko could remember he had this annoying blue ribbon with a light blue pendant tattoo on his neck. It was there the day he was born and it would be there the day he died as well. Zuko would often step in front of the mirror to see if it had changed at all, maybe into something more closely associated with the Fire Nation, but it never did.
"An even greater shame on the Royal Family." His father grumbled.
"You don't know it's someone from the Water Tribe." His mother argued back.
"It's a blue ribbon!" Ozai yelled.
"The color blue doesn't mean it's guaranteed to be a tribeswoman! Think of Fire Lady Ilah!" Zuko shuttered at the mention of his grandmother. She was the only reason he was alive. When he was born, his father was sure that his soulmate would be someone from the Water Tribe and wanted him killed for it. Azulon, who hadn't said a word, spoke up for the first time.
"Your mother had blue in her hair as her mark. A rare mutation of a soulmate mark, but one that led me to her. It was blue not because she would marry someone from the Water Tribe but because she would marry me: someone with blue fire." Ozai never said a word about Zuko's mark after that in front of Azulon.
This wasn't to say Zuko could flaunt his tattoo as he wished. His teacher, schoolmates and even family, including his mother and grandfather, still looked at it with disdain whenever they saw it. Which is why Zuko had taken to covering it up as best he could at every possible opportunity.
"Do you really think your soulmate could be a tribeswoman, Zuzu? Would that mean you have to move to the North or South Pole?" Azula asked, jumping on his bed.
"Go away, Azula." Zuko mumbled.
"I'm just asking questions. Oh! What if your soulmate is a prisoner in the Fire Nation?" Azula asked, "I wonder if you'll be able to marry-"
"At least I'm not a confirmed disgrace to our grandfather's law!" Zuko snapped.
When he saw Azula's face, he instantly felt bad. Maybe that was too far. Azula, same as Zuko, had also received her mark at birth. The only problem was that her mark were ribbons for circus performers. Ribbons that only female performers used. Azula’s soulmate was a girl.
Zuko didn’t hear the first half of what Azula said but he did hear her mumble something along the lines of, “Not my fault.”
“We both got soulmarks we don’t like.” Zuko said.
“I guess so.” Azula agreed, “What will you do if you soulmate is from the Water Tribe?”
“I don’t know.” Zuko shrugged, “But I can’t be with someone from the Water Tribe. You heard what the tutor said. They’re violent and dangerous. I can’t date someone like that.” Azula nodded, agreeing with her brother’s statement, “If it is someone from the Water Tribe then I guess…I’ll just ignore it.”
It wasn’t unheard of for someone to ignore their soulmate mark but it was incredibly uncommon, “Good idea.” Azula said, “I think I’ll do the same.”
“Even though your soulmate is Ty-“
“Don’t! I-…we don’t know it’s her. It could be anyone. Besides, I don’t even like Ty Lee like that.” Zuko, knowing better, hugged Azula close to him, “We won’t say a word about our soulmates?” Azula asked, holding out her pinkie.
“Not a word.” Zuko agreed, wrapping his pinkie around his sister’s in solidarity.
————————————
Katara always hated her tattoo. It was the mark of the enemy. Orange, yellow and red flames on her wrists mocked her whenever she took her wrist cuffs off to wash or for bed. The told her that she was a traitor to her people, a traitor to her family, a monster for having a soulmate from the Fire Nation.
Her mother had been the only one who was kind to her about who her soulmate was.
“It doesn’t matter what mark you have. The spirit’s never make a mistake. Your soulmate will love you and they will be as kind and as caring as you.” Kya promised, offering her a soft smile.
“How do you know, mom? What if they’re evil? Like in the stories?” Katara asked.
“Honey. Remember a few weeks ago how Ulu’s dad was attacked by a wolf? You were pretty mad at that wolf, huh?” Katara nodded, “Does that mean every single wolf in existence is as bad as that one?”
“No.” Katara answered.
“Exactly. Maybe this Fire National isn’t as bad as the soldiers. Maybe he wants to escape and join us.” Katara allowed herself some hope for her mother’s words.
The hope vanished the moment she ran into her house and saw her mother burned alive. Her mother, the one person who had tried to encourage her to believe that her soulmate was a good person, was dead.
Hakoda found her later that day because Sokka ran to find him, “Dad! Something’s wrong with Katara!” Hakoda was by his eight year old’s side in a second.
“Katara?”
“I don’t want it!” She sobbed, “I don’t want my tattoo! Get rid of it!” Hakoda looked at her wrists, noticing quickly that they were bright red and Katara’s nails had broken the skin.
“Katara, baby, you have to stop-“
“I DON’T WANT MY MARK!” Katara screamed, “They killed mom! They’re monsters! They should all die! They’re evil! Mom-…I want mom.” Katara couldn’t keep up her yelling by the end. She collapsed into her father’s arms as he stroked her hair.
“Shhh. Shh. It’s okay. It’ll be okay.” Hakoda promised.
“Want mom.” Katara sobbed.
“I know. I know.” Hakoda felt Sokka wrap himself around them so he used one of his arms to bring his son into the hug, “We’ll be okay.”
“But…but I’m still a traitor.” Katara whimpered.
“You’re not a traitor. You didn’t choose that tattoo. The spirits did. Katara, look at me,” Hakoda gently cupped Katara’s chin so he had to look up at him, “your mother never cared about the mark on your skin. She loved you. She loved you so much. Never forget that. Never forget that she didn’t care about your tattoo, she just wanted you to be happy. That’s all she ever wanted: both of you happy.”
Sokka took a look at his own wrists which had small fans on them. The fans themselves didn’t indicate much until Kanna claimed that she had seen them before. She took out a book and showed them Avatar Kyoshi’s fans. They matched perfectly.
“My soulmate is a dead Avatar?” Sokka had asked, earning a laugh from the adults.
“I think her wife might have a problem with that.” Kya told him, “But it means your soulmate will probably be from the Earth Kingdom and they might be a nonbender too.” Sokka practically glowed at that realization.
“Or an earthbender.” Kanna added, “Avatar Kyoshi used her fans to compensate for her inability to bend small objects in earthbending. Your soulmate might use the fans for that.”
“I wanna meet them!” Sokka said, jumping up and down.
“You will. When you’re older, you’ll meet them at just the right time.” Kya told him.
“I don’t want my soulmate, dad.” Sokka was brought back to reality by Katara’s words.
“You don’t have to make a decision now, Tara. Take some time and think it over.”
So, she did. She thought over her tattoo and what it meant while she buried her mother, while she mourned her, while she assumed responsibility in the tribe, while she watched her father go to war when she was only 11, and came to a conclusion. She put on wrist cuffs to cover her mark and hide it away from the world.
Never to be seen again.
—————————————
The Western Air Temple was certainly a new hideout for Team Avatar. They’d been in temples before, as had Zuko, but it was different to stay and life in one as opposed to just visiting it for a few days.
The first few days in their new makeshift home were…uncomfortable to say the least. It was clear that no one trusted Zuko, no one more so than Katara, and they acted like it. It was subtle but visible how the Gaang would sit in front of Haru, the Duke and Teo to protect them from Zuko or how Sokka always had a weapon with him when Zuko was around or Aang always having a hand on his staff.
Even if they said nothing, their minor actions were more than clear: they didn’t trust Zuko.
Then, slowly but surely, that distrust melted away. The more time Zuko spent with them and proved himself, the more the Gaang slowly grew to trust him.
“To Zuko. Who knew after all those times he tried to snuff us out today he’d be our hero!”
“Hear hear!” Everyone, minus Katara, cheered to Sokka’s toast.
“I’m touched. I don’t deserve this.” Zuko said.
“Yeah, no kidding.” Katara grumbled, getting up and walking away.
“What’s with her?” Katara heard Sokka say.
“I wish I knew.” Sensing that Zuko was following her, she went into her tent. To most people this was a sign that she wanted privacy.
In her isolation, Katara removed her wrist cuffs just as Zuko pushed the flaps of her tent open. Their eyes connected for a moment before Zuko’s eyes landed on her wrists.
“Your tattoo.” He whispered.
“What is wrong with you?!” Katara snapped, “Who charges into someone’s tent?!”
"Sorry. Sorry. I just...your tattoo is fire."
"What about it?" Katara snapped, putting her wrist bands back over her.
"Is your soulmate a firebender?"
"I wouldn't know. I've never met my soulmate. I never really had any want to after their people murdered my mother." Katara's voice cut through Zuko like a knife to his heart.
He had known for some time now that Katara was his soulmate. While there were thousands of firebenders, there was only one person Zuko had ever met with the same blue necklace around his neck. For the longest time, he ignored his feelings because she was the enemy but to know she had a tattoo that symbolized him was incredibly. To hear that she wanted nothing to do with her soulmate was more heartbreaking than anything else.
"Maybe you should give your soulmate a chance. He or she could surprise you and-"
"I don't want them! With my luck they're probably some firebending soldier working for Ozai. The last thing I need right now is to go looking for someone like that." Katara grumbled, "Now, if you have nothing more to say, can you leave my tent?"
Zuko's hand grabbed at his collar that kept his tattoo covered, "I...ummm..." He took one final look at her wrists before sighing, "I want to talk about why you don't trust me." He went with.
Zuko and Katara never spoke about soulmates after that. It just wasn't really a topic that ever came up. However, it never left Zuko's mind that Katara was his soulmate. Whenever he could, he sat next to her at dinners, laughed at her really bad jokes, helped with chores. But the biggest moment would always be the lightning strike. Zuko didn't even think during that moment. His legs acted before he did and he jumped in front of the bolt.
His vision going dark.
-----------------------------
The next time Zuko woke up, he was still in the arena and the sky was still painted red with Sozin's Comet. Was he dead? Is he a ghost now? No, no he felt very much alive, in incredible pain, but alive. Suddenly, Katara's smiling face was looking at him.
"Your tattoo." She whispered.
"Surprise." He tried to smile at her even though everything in his body hurt.
"How long have you known?" She asked.
"Since the earthbending prison when I found the necklace. It matched perfectly with my tattoo." Zuko explained, "I should have told you but I-"
"It's okay. I understand why you didn't. You didn't know how I'd react." Katara took her hands away from Zuko's injury and undid her wrist cuffs, "I started wearing these when I thought no good could come from the Fire Nation. I wore them as a reminder everyday of what I was fighting for. Now...now the war might be over and I don't think I need them anymore."
"If the war is over...do you think you'd want to try going on a date?" Asking his soulmate out on a date while she was healing a life threatening lightning injury was not how he imagined asking out Katara would go but he had a feeling that taking after taking a lightning bolt for her was probably as good a time as any to ask.
"That sounds great."

Considering we've got Azula and Ty Lee "sorted", so to say, have you any ideas for: Mai, Suki, Toph or maybe even Katara?
Only ask, cause I can't find a definite no for them, unless I've missed that post.
Okay, so Mai is with Zuko, I don't care what anyone says, I don't care about the comics, Zuko is with Mai and Mai is with Zuko. As far as I'm concerned when she got fed up with him talking to his dad she tied the new the new firelord up and showed him why she mattered more then his secrets.
I refuse to believe that the same person who betrayed Azula for Zuko and was ready to die left him for keeping a secret that wasn't a affair or murder.
Hell, I'm not a huge fan of NTR but if in the next Avatar series it's revealed Mai or Zuko married someone else then as far as I'm concerned they still ended up together behind closed doors and she merely became Zuko's most important secret and whoever dared to marry him or her suffered a life of cucking for trying to get between the Firelord and his emo true love.
As for Suki, there is no way in hell she didn't end up with Sokka, I am 100% sure she beat the asses of anyone and everyone who tried to flirt with lord boomerang.
Also a hundred percent when he died I am convinced his spirit ended up with Yue and maybe even took in Suki too.
Finally Katara, we saw her and Aang's kids, while I love Zuko, Sokka and Iroh more then the avatar himself I still Love Aang, there are simply four good boys in Avatar, I would say there are no bad/ crap boys... But Jet.
So yeah I see aang with Katara, and lowkey I can't remember if we ever see a image of older milf Katara but lowkey Older Aang is one handsome fucker (Sokka too)
Lowkey after RWBY's boys, I might try and make Zuko, Sokka and Aang models and then their respective ships.
Toph... Hmm? Short Awnser, I don't really know? Maybe? I genuinely never thought about it before

YAY YOU LIKED MY IDEA ☺️☺️☺️ you’re so right about Zuko too I can totally see it. Azula slipping back into her scary persona when Zuko arrives because he’s from her old life and everyone in the tribe going ??? Azula what’s wrong 🥺 and Zuko being madhappy that Azula got to get away (and he didn’t). I think Sokka and Azula would have become friends (maybe he reminds her of Ty Lee) and when Zuko comes to visit he gets super protective of Azula and it’s a Zuko/Sokka standoff while Azula’s in the middle trying to convince both of them that she’s the mastermind in control (she’s not and her ocean kumquats are burning). Eventually Sokka and Zuko realize they want the same thing and then zukka obviously because of course.
Also I go feral for the hair symbolism in Atla and it’s canon that Azula doesn’t know how to tie her topknot and the water tribe doesn’t wear their hair like that so she would Have to wear it another way. Perhaps a symbolism for forced vulnerability. Maybe Hakoda walks in on her trying to tie her topknot and he offers to help her. She begrudgingly says yes and he ends up tying her hair like his because it’s closest to what Azula is trying to do. His hair is sort of half down half up which I think symbolizes how he’s offering to her an out from vulnerability but it like only half works because he’s so kind to his children and children in general and she’s so disoriented by the new customs and kindness that she does let her guard down a little bit. (Also I think Azula would refer to hakoda as “my husband” when she feels threatened because he’s the chief and being his wife implies protection even though they don’t act (or think) married at all. And maybe eventually this turns into just a joke when Azula realizes she’s not actually being threatened in the SWT). Cue Sokka seeing Azula’s wolf tail for the first time:
Sokka: hey! You’re stealing my hairstyle! Get your own!
Azula: MY HUSBAND DID THIS >:/
(Also because I love when Zuko says “the fatherlord” so much I think Azula absolutely has to refer to hakoda as hakodad or my husdad at least once.)
So late responding to this but i genuinely couldn’t think of a good enough thing to say or add so I’m just gonna leave it here for the people to enjoy x

What are your thoughts on Azula redemption. Like if it was done properly and she got all the help she needed. Because honestly it's hard to find good Azula redemption takes without them being stans or something
I've talked about this before (here for instance), but I don't really think Azula needs the kind of redemption people seem to want for her. I think a transformative arc would fit her better. Like, yeah, she changes, but she's not necessarily redeemed through it. First of all, I don't think she'd ever be completely sorry about what she did, and I think that's a baseline requirement for a redemption arc.
Second, in my opinion, too many of these "redemption" arcs for Azula focus on her reconciling with everyone, and I just don't think that's realistic. I see her reconciling with Zuko and maybe Iroh, but beyond that, I don't see Ty Lee coming back (I actually like to think that she found her happiness far, far away from Caldera and the messiness of court). I could see Azula not wanting Mai back. Zuko's friends don't owe Azula anything either, so it bothers me a bit when I see stories that start with Azula being best friends with everyone with no explanation or acknowledgement of how odd it is. Especially when the stories are within a year or two after the war ends. The problem here is focusing so much on the trauma Azula went through, there's no focus on the trauma she caused. And she caused a lot.
Like, A LOT.
She contributed to Zuko's years long abuse, she controls Ty Lee through intimidation and forces her into service, she pimps Mai out to get Zuko in line (although, it seemed like Mai was into it, so this might be iffy?). Then there's everything she did to the Gaang. All of this before you dig into what she was like before she joined the hunt for Aang. This is my own personal theory, and not one I necessarily expect to see in fics, but I'm 100% sure Azula did a lot of damage even before she left the Fire Nation. Intentionally or not (and tbh, it probably wasn't intentional), it's pretty heavily implied in the show that Azula has a body count off screen, and those bodies were friendly fire (i.e. Azula has killed and injured people from the Fire Nation). Beyond that, Azula seemed to enjoy what she did. I know she was victim of abuse, but she was also an abuser. Just like a bully being abused at home doesn't automatically absolve them of being a bully, Azula has a lot to answer for. None of the people she harmed are required to welcome her in with open arms.
How I would approach a transformative arc for Azula would be to tell the story over a span of years- well into her adulthood, and probably into middle age. The only one from the original show she would have a firm relationship with is Zuko, and mostly because he insists on seeing her every so often. Katara, who is obviously married to him, would tolerate Azula for Zuko's sake, but things would be cold between them, and Katara would understandably want to keep her children at a distance. Iroh would forgive her, but wouldn't be super inclined to force a connection between him and his niece. He would support Zuko's efforts, though. Azula wouldn't live in Caldera. If she doesn't end up imprisoned after the war, I think she would end up semi-exiled to one of the outer islands of the Fire Nation. There she would build a new life for herself, and rediscover her humanity. She might come to regret more of her actions, but I think ultimately she'd end up absolving herself and not really care about making amends to anyone outside of Zuko (and maybe Iroh. Maybe).
Personally, I'm not super interested in punishing Azula, but I want there to be heavy consequences for her actions. I want the validity of people not wanting her in their lives to be acknowledged. I want to see how she navigates her life post war after losing everyone and everything. I want to see her carving out a place for herself that doesn't have much, if anything, to do with her life in Caldera. If she can make amends to one or two people from her past, that's fine, but it needs to take into consideration that she hurt them, and not just be them accepting her back because she "wasn't herself", because she was herself when she hurt them. I want Azula's redemption arc to be messy and imperfect and incomplete.
Well, either that, or I want to see her go full power trip and try to take power from her brother in an epic and tragic final battle between the siblings, because who doesn't like Shakespearean drama with elemental magic, amirite?

[fic] Fire Lady Melon Lord (1/1) [COMPLETE]
Link: AO3
Pairing: Taang (Aang x Toph), Zukka (Sokka x Zuko), implied other pairings including: Ty Lee x Mai, Katara x Haru; Past Katara x Aang, Past Suki x Sokka
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Genre: Romance/Comedy/Fake Dating with a Twist
Word Count: 25,824
Summary: It starts out as a joke. Toph’s got an opening on her calendar and political arrangements happen all the time. No harm, no foul. Unless overdramatic, big-eared, passionate Twinkle Toes Aang has something to say about it.
Preview:
“We could get married,” Toph jests—and she cackles when Zuko makes another face. “No—really—you don’t want a wife, and I don’t want to be some nameless housewife pumping out babies. The Fire Sages will get off your ass and my parents can flex that I’m getting married to the goddamn Fire Lord.”

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💗
Hi!!! Thanks for the ask!
This was kind of hard because I tend to be a bit self-critical about my writing, but I think these are my favorites (in no particular order).
Black Sun, in which Ty Lee reflects on her relationship with Azula during and after the invasion on the Day of Black Sun. I really enjoyed working on this one because I got to play with my interpretation of Ty Lee's character (I always took her as incredibly politically/socially savvy) and explore Azula's perspective on Zuko's actions on the Day of Black Sun.
The Matriarch, in which someone tries to assassinate Kuvira and Suyin goes into Dark Matriarch mode. In this fic, I got to explore some of my darker headcanons about Suyin's character and I think it came out pretty well. I also really enjoyed getting to write some tender moments between Su and Kuvira without downplaying the tensions and complexities in their relationship.
Her Favorite Mistake, in which a rookie cop and an up and coming mobster walk into Kwong's Cuisine, and they're definitely NOT on a date (except they totally are). I get really nostalgic about this fic because it was the first ever Linzolt work on Ao3. I think I'll always love it for being the start of this rarepair that I've come to adore.
The Successor, in which the matriarch of Zaofu has a nonbender daughter and a metalbending protege, and each of them grew up feeling as though she had been cast aside in favor of the other. I think I did a pretty good job with the characterization and complex dynamics of Kuvira, Opal, and Suyin in this fic. I also tried my hardest with description and figurative language (which don't always come easily to me) in this story and I think I came up with some pretty good lines and scenes.
A Strategic Alliance, in which Kuvira got adopted by Queen Hou Ting instead of Suyin and she and Baatar Jr. decide to get married for political reasons. The idea of Princess Kuvira is not mine (credit for that goes to the wonderful @the-hopefulpenguin) but I had a lot of fun running with the concept in this fic. The mother and daughter dynamic between Kuvira and Hou Ting basically wrote itself and I would definitely write about them again if the opportunity presented itself.

BIOGRAPHY
since day one, life didn’t want eden lin. born at midnight and abandoned the very same day under the shimmering night sky, she’d not even remember one beautiful thing on the day of her birth. whenever someone would ask her about her childhood, she’d say she doesn’t remember much, not the way that she was moved from one family to another, always desperately trying to fit in, alter herself to make herself more lovable.
as soon as she was old enough ( pretending that it was her own choice and not the fact that no one would take care of her anymore ), she decided to move to san francisco. not that the city mattered anyway.  all she ever wanted was to get out, far away from the place that left so many scars. and although they’d never completely fade, she could deal with a festering heart. eden had always been smart, yet having no means forced her to work several jobs while trying to get her meteorology degree. loneliness was something eden had known for her whole life, yet it was the way fatigue had infected her whole body that made it so difficult. it was just another day, and she was working one of too many jobs when she met the person who’d alter her life forever. for better ( at the beginning ) or worse ( for the rest of her life). her future husband, was a charming man and if he wasn’t, she so desperately wanted to believe it. broken and devoid of love for so long, eden allowed herself to fall in love quickly and it didn’t take long until she agreed to marry him. slowly, she grew more dependent on him. he’d pay for everything and for the first time in her life eden didn’t feel tired. she had never given anything ( not that she could afford to do so ) but also she hadn’t taken anything either but it felt good. easy. she could finally focus on her degree, make something of herself and maybe become her true self, now that she was freed from all the burden.  however, the man she used to know had changed or simply taken off his mask. he wanted to control everything in her life and if she didn’t listen, he’d turn to cruelty. this time it wasn’t poverty that trapped her but what a man decided to call love. it wasn’t of course and eden was aware that she’d never get out if she allowed him to exist in her life. it was an act of desperation ( and the fear of what wealth and influence could do ) when eden lin decided she needed to kill her husband. it would be easy, she could be as cruel to him as he was to her. but the moment she looked for him struggling to hold onto life, she couldn’t do it and it wasn’t her who got away. of course, she tried to escape but it was already too late and she was found and sentenced to prison. again, she was alone but this time with no hope for anything. never had she thought that in a funny twist of fate, it’d be an outbreak that would save her. but with everyone abandoning the prison, she found a way to escape and landed in the crescent apartments with no one knowing who she really was.
MISC
she’s pretending to be a sweet and naive girl, knowing that appearing harmless is the best weapon. hence, she’s pretending to be a tailor ( she did run an etsy store for clothing once ). truth be told, she isn’t the best at it but it somehow works. she’s a skilled climber, a skill that was born out of many sneaking out attempts and later developed into a hobby.  she lies about her past and everything about it, like the place she was born in, that she used to be married and that she grew up poor. in fact, she’s even pretending that she came from a rich family, which plays into her facade of being a delicate and clueless person.  she’d always been a little vain, always wanting to appear perfect and put together. especially, since her time in prison, she’d grown to be even more vain, as she entirely lost control about her appearance. although, makeup and beauty are the last thing she’s supposed to care about, she still does her hair and makeup every morning. ( and if she’s feeling particularly sneaky, she will even waste electricity by using a curling iron ).

By Your Side: Sokkla Saturdays 2023
Day 2: Summer
AO3 & FF.Net
SOKKA
She didn't remember when exactly these five letters touched her heart for the first time. She couldn't say when his presence started making her heart beat faster than she ever remembered.
All she knew was that she might be in love with him. But she couldn’t accept and embrace the way she felt about Sokka.
Azula and Sokka saw each other seldom. When they did, it was either a council meeting or a gathering between their friends. And every time it was the same: She became nervous, became awkward and feared people around them could sense it. Toph already smirked every time, though she never said a thing.
Azula. The Princess Azula. Known for her confidence, became a mess around Sokka from the Water Tribe.
She was sure he thought the worse of her.
Their conversations were limited. Sokka would smile friendly and greet her. Azula would try to greet back like it was nothing, barely holding eye contacr and Sokka would get confused and she got frustrated with herself.
Mai and Ty Lee were the only people who knew about Azula’s feelings.
“Come on Azula, you got to tell him! What if you’re too late and some other girl approaches him first?” Ty Lee said, “What if you end up with someone else and still think of him?”
“Ugh! Never knew this would get so complicated.” Azula replied.
“Go tell your feelings and kiss him!” Ty Lee said cheerfully.
“Thanks for your advice.” Azula rolled her eyes and Ty Lee giggled at that.
“Just imagine he likes you back.” Mai interfered catching the girls’ attention.
“Azula, it’s been what, two years?”
She nodded in answer.
“I know feelings and romance is difficult, but people often regret what they haven’t done. Imagine he gets married someday and you get married with someone else. How can you know that by then, you don’t carry him in your heart anymore? Do you want to wake up in someone else's arms thinking of Sokka every day?”
Mai’s words were heavy, true and straightforward.
Sunset was near when she went to her room after her meeting with her friends were over. Days were longer since it was summer. She sighed and sat on the edge of her bed. Sokka’s smiles and blue eyes didn’t stop haunting her. Azula was sick of feeling weak for him. Struggling about her feeling for him on her own without him even having a clue was tiring. Maybe he had an idea? No, it didn’t matter he surely thought the worst of her.
Her eyes drifted to her desk, and she pulled the drawer open.
To see it was gone. The letter was gone. She searched for it but couldn't find it. One night she wrote about her feelings, trying to lift some weight from her heart. Just for herself. She  never truly meant to give it to Sokka. Well, truth to be told, she thought about it, but hadn’t done it any way.
A knock on the door startled her. Before she could react Toph went inside.
“What are you doing Toph? You know you are supposed to knock on my door!” Azula said said clearly displeased.
“Well Princess, I thought I help you finding you love letters.” Toph said mockingly.
Time seemed to stand still for Azula.
“Ty Lee told me you wrote a letter. So, we decided to be nice and give it to your Loverboy Sokka.”
“You did what? How dare you, are you out of your mind?” Azula yelled at her.
“It lays on his desk in his room.”
Azula ran out of the room, setting her destination to Sokka and Katara’s home. Though she slowed down halfway. Had he read it? What would she do if he did.
She was just turning right when she bumped into a strong chest only a few blocks away from Sokka’s place.
A warm hand held her arm to keep her from falling.
“Azula?”
She looked up at him, panicking. And here he was. All handsome. Looking at her again with his piercing blue eyes.
“Sokka… I…” before she could say more, her eyes caught his other hand. The letter he held with it.
Noticing it, Sokka finally asked: “Azula, is this… is this truly for me?” his voice was unexpectedly kind. Positive even.
She reached to grab the letter, but he pulled it away.
“Give it Sokka!” she said angrily. How she hated that her voice shook.
“No, let’s...”
“Give me the letter now!” rage filled her eyes.
“Azula, please let’s…”
Azula stormed off before Sokka could finish his sentences.
Sokka immediately reached for her, but she blocked his way with fire bending and was gone.
Half an hour later he found her on the cliffs with Toph’s help.
She was watching the purple sky, the sun was almost fully set.
He walked carefully towards her, her back facing him.
“Hey, I’m glad I found you.” He said slightly panting.
Azula turned around swiftly. Did he run all the way up here?
“How are you?” Sokka said approaching her.
“Why are you asking?”
“I was worried when you ran away.”
“You took my letter.”
“It lay on my desk and was addressed to me Azula.” he said, “Did you not send it?” He looked sadly now.
“Just forget about it. It was …”
Yes?”
When Azula didn’t say anything, Sokka sighed and sat down next to her, careful not to touch her shoulder, to avoid making her even more uncomfortoable.
“Okay.” he said.
“Okay?”
“Well, I always found you beautiful.” Sokka said.
Hope glimmered in Azula’s eyes.
“And I always wanted to spend more time with you, but you would always ignore me.”
Azula looked down. She thought her feelings came off differently. And she was spot on.
“It was when I read the letter that relieve washed over me. Azula, I feel the same way about you.” he added.
“You… do?” Azula asked shocked “But you never…”
“I do. But you are so perfect and I… yes, I am just me.” he told her sadly. But his eyes lit up right afterwards, a playful smile appearing on his handsome face, “Though, if what the letters says is true, then I am one special guy!”
Azula smiled at that and turned her head away almost shyly. Sokka chuckled.
“You shouldn’t let this get over your head. It wasn’t me it was the letter stating it.” she said.
“Ahhh. But who wrote the letter?” he asked smiling.
Azula smiled. After a brief moment of silence, Sokka continued.
“So, will you accept me?”
With that he stood up and reached a hand down to her.
She looked at it first and then took it. The way her hand slid smoothly into his send pleasant jolts through both of their bodies. They didn’t let go when Azula stood up.
“I want to be with you. I… I love you too Azula!”
Azula couldn’t believe it. All her doubts from years were not necessary. Why didn’t she send the letter much earlier? From now on they wouldn’t waste any more time.
Azula let go of his hand and hugged her. His arms immediately went around her waist.
Their foreheads touched and the sun was setting in the horizon. Shining the reds over the new lovers. Their love would grow over time and last forever.

How’s it going @juniperhillpatient ?
I just read chapter VII of “The devil You Know”. The chapter was a roller coster and the story is really heating up. Poor Yue…
Was it truly a mere accident that Sokka’s coffin laid on top of Yue’s and Fy Lee”. He is very suspiciously close to many deaths. Toph was killed soon after she found out he and Suki were implicated in (I think it was Chan’s?) death. Speaking of Suki, it’s quite interesting when she protested how her phone wasn’t working, only for Azula to notice that it suddenly began to work again when it came time for Yue’s video to appear. Yue of course being an idvidyal that Suki has a grudge against. Via Sokka. Speaking of Yue, her POV this chapter was a gut punch. As was Katara’s in the beginning.
Also Jets’s POV drew several points about Ty Lee from his perspective. That she was smarter than she initially appeared. And that she six identical sisters. In appearance and voice.
What if Ty Lee hadn’t died at all. What if merely faked her death (by sacrificing one of her sisters) and engineered the call to Azula. Blaming Zuko for something he hadn’t actually done. From Jet’s PoV we know that Ty Lee’s parents wouldn’t actually notice if one of their daughters disappeared. Which may make it easy for Ty Lee to fake her death and switch with one of her sisters. If indeed she is one of the killers. I could just be reading into something that is’t there after all.
One of the killers expressed heartbreak over Azula. And we know that something happened between her and Ty Lee. Maybe enough to push Ty Lee into being a killer? Their’s also Mai, who may have been acting the fool this whole time. Her anger at Azula is readily apparent. My distrust of the two stems from canon. Though their actions are understandable I’ve got a thing about people betraying their friends. So their deeds at the Boiling Rock still leave a bad tastes in my mouth. Minus saving Zuko/Sokka/Suki’s lives of course.
So I like Suki and Sokka for Ghostface. With Mai coming in as a secondary suspicion. And If my theory about Ty Lee faking her death is right, she immediately jumps to #I suspect
In the end scene, where Katara is perving on Azula. Is Azula blacking out like in the first chapter? In which Zuko is taking of Azula in that moment?
And a message for Azula. “Tell your girlfriend important shit! Your brother being accused (supposedly at least) in being a killer definitely qualifies. Also don’t cheat on her”. That’s a bit fucked up. Unless you blacked out for it. Which makes Zuko’s action monumentally more fucked up. But then, every character in this story is a bit screwed in the head. But then, that’s one (though by no means the only) of the reasons we love all the ATLA main crew (Gaang+Dangerous ladies+Yue).
Also, I’m pretty sure Kiyi is Hakoda’s and Ursa’s bastard child. Does Sokka suspect which married women that Hakoda slept with (Ursa?). He’s been a big brother figure to her thus far, so maybe. Out of all the characters, I’m hoping Kiyi lives. Even more so than Azula or Katara (I know, It me saying that!). Also hopeful she doesn’t end up as one of the killers…
I enjoyed the chapter, and am greatly looking forward to next! I want to see this mystery unraveled!
Bestie I wish you could like.....watch my face journey as I read through your speculations because I had a BALL reading this!
I seriously LOVE all the theorizing & I feel like I'm interacting less than usual with readers when it comes to this story because I'm always just like -
"love the theories :))))" but also I literally CANNOT respond with anything to theories without giving away if you're close or way off LMAO
But just know. I feel so validated in putting as much thought as I do into this story (trust me it's a lot lol) & I just get SO excited about seeing the different possibilities when I get messages such as this. Just - AHH !! :)
As for Kiyi - I can go ahead & confirm that she is indeed Ursa & Hakoda's child. I don't consider this a spoiler given it is pretty much confirmed in the latest update. More on how much Sokka knows about this very soon!
Anyway - THANK YOU. Whenever I see notifications from you I get so happy because you are so thoughtful & insightful & so supportive <3
