sometimes it’s sad that the default fanon for McCoy is grumpy, annoyed, no fun allowed, old, and done with the world
when this guy also enjoys the life so much and to the fullest - he loves food, drinks, he loves good times (he’d go bar hopping with you if you asked), he likes sex, he loves research, he’s curious, he likes jokes, he likes to tease and “prank” others

HIIII Episode 10 (Dagger Of The Mind) time! I made it to ten! Now only… one.. seven… twenty… seventy four episodes to go!
Here’s the review:
- remember kids; when trying to beam something down to a penal colony they have to remove their shields first
- that is a whole ass man.. HOW DID YOU MISS THAT WHOLE ASS MAN
- no but seriously even airports can check for human tissue like- I forgot this was made in the 60s I’m stupid stfu t0ast
- “more like a resort colony” my ass, Kirk
- BONES!!! He just kinda stands on the bridge (for no reason) and stares at what’s happening (at Jim)
- wow two redshirts dead in five minutes
- okay Bones walks over to Spock FOR NO REASON and I’m pretty sure he just wants to bicker
- my name is WHAT my name is WHO my name CHICKACHICKA Van Gelder
- why would destroying one control panel kill the ship?!? Design flaw imo
- “that doesn’t ring true” what are you a truth detector? I thought he was a doctor
- I love Bones “going against” Kirk (he’s smiling the whole damn time) and Spock backing him up
- “oh yeah I’m sending down Dr. Noel” REVEAL SHES A WOMAN OH MY GOD
- why’d he need to bring Spock down to the transporter room? Emotional support? He’d miss his boyfriend?
- Lethe? Isn’t that the river of uhhh- ummm ugmmm… I forgor
- I like whatever was happening with the light in Lethe’s eyes
- awwwe Spock and Bones working together
- STOP CUTTING OFF DR. NOEL
- WHY WOULD YOU STAY THERE OVERNIGHT?!? Kirk would NOT survive a horror movie. He’d be first to die (comment down below)
- McCoy is like “Our boyfriend could be in danger, use your damn mind magic”
- OHHH OKAY I SEE WHY VULANS MEDITATE. The words he speaks to Van Gelder are a lot like being lead through meditation
- I LOBE THIS SCENE! The dialogue from Van Gelder, the movements and prompts from Spock, MCCOYS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Kirk catapulting into danger right after they TOLD HIM NOT TO
- “and now she’s gone” “helen” I thought he was gonna shout or smt so when he just said “helen” it got me
- you know how this would be so much more tragic? If (canonically) Kirk was dating someone else aboard the ship *cough* you know *cough cough* and then the evil doctor implanted the idea he was in love with Dr. Noel and then him having to deal with the idea of loving both her and the other… anyway
- “Kirk to enterprise.. ughhkghjkk”
- He is literally the worst.. girlfailure
- people are too good at hiding in plain sight
- KIRK NOT AFRAID TO PUNCH A BITCH
- she- she just killed a guy.. good for her
- THE FUCKIN- the sitcom ass look Spock gives Jim like “oh really dr Adams did this”
- MCCOY!!! yeah he’s around. HE’S DEAD JIM MOME- oh no “he’s dead, captain” goddamnit Bones
- “can you imagine the mind emptied by that thing. Without even a tormentor” was a line most definitely meant for Spock and Bones but Dr.Noel saying “I understand” reminds me that she is indeed there not just observing but participating
- Bones just causally leaning against the back of his chair
- does he know? Does he even know that most medical officers don’t normally lean like that against your chair?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- OMG I SAW A POST ABOUT THE “it’s hard to believe a man could die of loneliness” “not when he’s sat in that room” AND THEN KIRK LOOKS OVER TO SPOCK AND SMILES
- he’s so surrounded by loved ones bro is beaming
Anyway all in all a good tenth episode!
I made a master list of all my Star Trek tos thought posts :D

I’ve read a few fics lately with some great timey wimey premises so if that’s your jam you might also enjoy them!
If I missed your fav please share in the comments! I love this sort of thing and will always want to read more.
Tumblr media
Some Version Of You by @ncc1701ohno
Summary: Bones is stuck in a time loop and stuck in his room. With Jim. He's forced to admit how intense this thing between them has gotten, how much he feels for Jim, even as he's been falling in love with Spock.
Does what happens in a time loop stay in a time loop?
Thoughts: I’m a sucker for time loops and this is just such a great short look at it with academy era McKirk.
Highlights: the angst! The longing! THE END!
It Ends Or It Doesn’t by @muirmarie
Summary: McCoy dies, and Kirk breaks his hand on a wall. Kirk dies to save McCoy, and McCoy breaks his hand on Spock's face for not stopping him. Spock dies, and he doesn't have to see what happens next, because the day resets. The day keeps resetting. McCoy keeps dying.
Thoughts: these self sacrificing idiots just love each other so much and I love THEM!
Highlights: there’s a loop towards the end where they accept what is happening and it’s probably my favorite part of this fic.
Grief As A Four Dimensional Figure by @jennelikejennay (moreta1848)
Summary: "One might arguably say it is not fully logical to care whether I cannot return to Vulcan because it no longer exists or because it is separated from me permanently in five-dimensional space.”
“No, I think I get it,” said Jim. “Like, I haven’t gone back to the old house in Iowa in years, but I do like knowing it’s there. If my mom sold it and it got knocked down, it would make a difference to me.”
The ambassador nodded. “Likewise, even in four-dimensional space, we are separated from the things we have lost only by distance—by the fact that we cannot easily travel along the timeline.” He marked out a section of his timeline, then a dot further back in the bottom timeline—Jim’s timeline. “My marriage is here. I am here, in a different timeline and at a different time. But my marriage exists. It is a figure in four-dimensional space which will continue to exist, in that sense, eternally. So long as the timeline does not collapse, it is a permanent part of history. So although I do not have my spouse with me, I know that he existed. That somewhere, in a time and a dimension I cannot go, we are meeting for the first time. That somewhere, I am asleep in his arms.”
Thoughts: I rarely like aos as much as tos fics, but this one worked so so well for me.
Highlights: every reference to the one with the whales, all the feelings about Amanda, all of Spirk’s big feelings about each other.
Way From Within by @gunstreet and @justveeing
Summary: Jim and Spock are assigned together for a rescue mission, and in the exhilarating aftermath, their attraction to each other comes bubbling to the surface. But the next day Spock is surprisingly distant, and the rest of the morning starts to seem eerily familiar to Jim...
Written by gunstreet and illustrated by lorvee, this is a K/S timeloop story in the vein of Palm Springs or Groundhog Day.
Thoughts: pretty sure we all collectively lost our minds about this one when it came out a few months ago, but if you haven’t read it yet it is GREAT. All the fun time loop tropes I love with Kirk and Spock at the center.
Highlights: the art is so good! I love seeing these scenes illustrated!
Happy reading everyone! 🖖

Star Trek (TOS)
so I was making bracelets the other day and I thought of these. They’re just some little headcanons for how some of my favourite TOS characters would react if you made them a bracelet (when you guys are dating and not public) SFW
James T. Kirk
You 100% stole an Enterprise emblem pin off of something to use as a charm on it.
The beads are arranged in a pattern of one plain yellow bead and then one yellow bead with glitter in it (rinse and repeat pattern)
when he sees it he’s kinda surprised, but only for a moment before absolutely melting 🫠.
he can’t believe you thought of him while doing crafts because he knows you do crafts to unwind after a long day.
is not nearly as concerned as he should be about where exactly the pin came from
Will get very upset and hide away until he finds it again if he ever loses it
Tumblr media
“This is for me?” He sounds a bit floored, “umm, yeah, it’s okay if you don’t like it, I could-“ he doesn’t let you finish your sentence. “No, no, no! I love it!” He quickly slipped it onto his wrist before you could even think to take it back.
Tumblr media
A couple of weeks later you assume that he probably took it off and left it somewhere in his quarters to be forgotten
but he would NEVER dare take it off
you honestly almost cry when you see him still wearing it
When you bring it up he’s a little insulted no he’s not that you would even think that it would leave him ever
Tumblr media
Jim is riled up about something as he’s talking to Spock and you were listening, but then he put his hands down on the table in front of him and you noticed something. He was still wearing the bracelet you made him! Of course, McCoy being McCoy, he has also noticed this and has to put something in about. “I get that you love the Enterprise, but isn’t that a bit much?” Leonard shouts across from across the bridge. Kirk turns a slight shade of pink at the jest, but does a surprisingly good job of ignoring it. Later when he leaves the bridge you run up to him and give him the biggest hug you can manage. “I know I’m irresistible, but this a little unusual, even for you, sweetheart” Jim jokes, “You’re still wearing it” you say softly into his shoulder. It takes him a moment to catch onto what you’re talking about, but when he does, he lets out a soft chuckle that you can feel rumble through his chest. “Of course I am” he whispered into your hair as he gave you a kiss on the head.
Tumblr media
Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy
You have a bit of a harder time trying to figure out what charm to put on his bracelet
you definitely spend a long while overthinking because you want it to be perfect
one night as you’re about to go to bed though the perfect idea hits you
its so brilliant and yet so simple
you decide on a little femur 🦴 charm, actually two, so it’s plural just like his nickname
You’d use black and blue beads and put one of each colour between the two charms to separate them a little.
At first he doesn’t even look up at you because he’s going through some medical records.
so in a small fit of anxiety you toss it on his desk and literally run away before he can look and see how stupid cutesy it is
When he does see it though he makes heart eyes at it😍
His, no backsies
Pretends to go back to work after slipping it on is secretly kicking his feet and bubbling up inside
He will track you down after his shift to thank you for it because he LOVES it
Tumblr media
“I brought you something” you softly announced, “just a second, darlin’ I’ve some forms to finish” he really didn’t mean to dismiss you, he just couldn’t afford to loose his train of thought just then. There was a clatter on the desk in front of him and before he could properly process the event you had disappeared. He looked up from his padd to see a little bracelet with two bone charms on it, on his desk. For a brief second he smiled ear to ear, it was so quick that any nurse passing by would have sworn it was a hallucination. He quickly put his padd down to put the bracelet on and then quickly pretended to go back to his work. Later, after his shift, he finally found you in your quarters. Your door swooshed open and you looked up. “Oh, hi” you blushed as you saw McCoy. He sat down next to you and kissed you on one cheek, then the other, and finally gave a quick peck to your lips before thanking you. “I love it so much, darlin’, thank you” he declares as he gives you another kiss.
Tumblr media
You’re entirely certain that he only wore it for a little while to humour you and it was probably sitting in the drawer of his nightstand now
he just doesn’t strike you as the kind to wear jewellery.
boy are you wrong though, he’s an absolute sap sentimental
Would eat a tricorder rather than willingly take it off
Tumblr media
You scraped your knee up when the Enterprise hit some unexpected turbulence. It seriously barely even bled, but Leonard still RAN to you. He had you sit down on a biobed while he inspected your knee. When he reached up with some disinfectant you noticed he was wearing the bracelet. Your heart leapt as you reached for his wrist. “I know that disinfectant stings, darlin’, but you still have to let me clean it for you” he insisted. You pulled his wrist up to your lips and placed a kiss right on his pulse point, “You’re still wearing the bracelet!” You softly exclaimed. Leonard looked at his wrist before looking lovingly into your eyes. “Of course I am, it’s amazing, thoughtful, and reminds me of the girl I love” he cooed, “but I still have to disinfect your scrape” he raised an eyebrow at you as he slowly pulled his wrist away from your face.
Tumblr media
Spock
This gives you soo much anxiety to do
what if he doesn’t like it? Or doesn’t understand? Or doesn’t like it because it’s “highly illogical”?
Sure he’s half Vulcan, but he’s also half human
in the end you decide on a charm of the Vulcan salute 🖖, which you picked up on a shore leave awhile back
unlike with the other two, you had decided on some very nice glass beads instead of the big plastic ones, they’re sort of marbled various shades of blue
Tumblr media
(Maybe like these) I put a link in the picture to them on Amazon in case anyone decides they actually want them
You definitely hold onto this bracelet for what feels like way too long before you muster the courage to give it to him
You probably give it to him when he’s looking a bit down, or as down as he would ever allow himself to look
he probably turns a light shade of green when you give it to him
not that he’s actually sure why you’ve given it to him or what it means, but you gave it to him and for about 30 seconds that’s all he actually cares about
which might be a record amount of time for him to go without following a logical thought process to its exhaustion
internally warms him, he finds it endearing, feels the need to gift you something in return
Tumblr media
As you hand it to Spock he slowly raises an eyebrow before turning the slightest shade of green and putting it on with so much care, as if one breath might shatter every bead now resting on his wrist. He clears his throat slightly before starting, “It’s very nice, why are you giving it to me?” He doesn’t mean it as an insult he just assumes he must have done something to deserve it. “Oh, it’s okay if you don’t like it or want it” you wilt a bit at the idea that you were entirely wrong in thinking that it would cheer him up. “Oh no it’s quite lovely, really” he insists, you smile a little still not sure of his words “okay”
Tumblr media
You’re pretty sure he took it off as soon as you turned around and had probably been haphazardly tossed somewhere in his quarters, if not directly in the trash 🗑️
you just don’t think he even likes the concept of it, let alone your tacky one
entirely incorrect in that thought process
logically explains it to anyone who asks about it: “My wearing it, assures the person who gave it to me of my affections for them” sounds cold, but he came up with an explanation, basically as good as married now.
would cut off his own ear before he would part with it
Tumblr media
As you walk by you can hear things getting shoved around in Spock’s quarters. You run in assuming that some kind fight is going on. You’re both relieved and confused to find him alone, but still in an odd state of disarray. “Umm, are you alright?” You ask “It’s nothing, Y/N. I’ve just misplaced something” Spock informs you. Nothing my ass, you think to yourself “Are you sure? It’s kind of a mess in here” You point out “What have you lost?” You inquire. He turns green from his cheeks to his ears. “I seem to have.. erm… misplaced my bracelet” he murmurs the last part and your heart flutters at the thought that he cared enough to not only notice it was gone, but then also to tear apart his quarters looking for it. “Well when was the last time you had it?” You asked, knowing full well that he had probably already been through that thought process. “I was wearing it when I went to sleep last night” he admits sheepishly, “did you shake out your bedding?” You look over to see his bed stripped down “Yes, that was the first thing I did”. “What about under the bed?” You look back to him and he’s turned an even brighter green, “No, I hadn’t thought to do that yet” he reveals, “would you mind looking for me? You would fit better than I would” he requested. “Of course” you complied as you got down on the floor to look under the bed. “Bingo!” you exclaimed before sliding under the bed to reach it. When you stand up again he snatches it away and puts it back on before going to reorganise his room. You smile to yourself. He’d never be caught dead admitting it, but he nearly had a heart attack this morning when he realised it was missing.
Tumblr media
sorry it might not be any good, hope you kinda like it anyway, thanks!

"Perry's Planet" review
Tumblr media
Star Trek meets "A Clockwork Orange".
A novel from 1980 by Jack C. Haldeman (brother of Joe Haldeman, who wrote two TOS novels, both pretty good by the way). I liked this one more than I should have. I explain. The plot is nothing original: a rehash of those episodes about apparent paradises, ultimately run by computers, like The Return of the Archons or The Apple. And pretty much as happened in those episodes, Kirk ends up forgetting about the Prime Directive and changing everything about that society he doesn't like. There are also Klingons involved, once again. The central theme of violence being essential to humanity (even if just as self-defense) is also pretty counter to what the show usually stood up for, specially in episodes like Errand of Mercy or Day of the Dove. The series certainly took a more unambiguous position in this subject.
Nonetheless, I found the story pretty engaging, and it raises some interesting questions. Even if one doesn't personally agree with the novel's conclusions (or just doesn't find them very Trek-like), the fact that the story raises such questions is worthwhile in itself.
I'm not going to dissect the plot as in other reviews, but spoiler warning just in case:
My comparison of this novel to "A Clockwork Orange" comes from the conditioning against violence, that's been achieved by the colonists of the titular planet. They're so conditioned against it, that not only they're incapable of hurting each other, they're also totally blind to acts of violence committed by normal people. Such programming is achieved by a virus, which at first makes subjects faint every time they try to act violently, and later makes them totally incapable of it.
When discussing the virus, Kirk, Spock and McCoy stand strongly against this perceived violation of free will. The problem is, the colonists are actually pretty normal people. Unlike the zombified citizens ruled by Landru, or the people from The Apple, who didn't even know love, it doesn't seem that something essential to their humanity has been taken away. They just can't hurt each other. And one has to wonder: would that be such a bad thing? Wayne Perry, the half human, half computer construct that rules the planet, actually makes good points when defending his use of the virus.
Of course, the narrative ultimately sides with Kirk's views. The Enterprise crew is infected by the virus, and rendered totally defenseless against a Klingon attack. Unable to take any offensive measure, they can just sit there with shields raised, while being slowly destroyed. There are also signs that Perry's human side is slowly corrupting the whole system, and behaving more and more erratically. But in the end, these are just narrative choices made to strengthen Kirk's position. Perry's initial points still stand. In fact, the major problem of the virus is precisely that it's not effective 100%. Some people are immune to it, and they're left free to commit all sorts of crimes against a population that can't defend themselves, not even be aware of what's going around. To make things even darker, this violence isn't limited to stealing for survival (as the immunes are ostracized from society), but also includes beating and sexually abusing people. So this violence-free society can't subsist, as long as there are still those willing to use violence. And I wonder if there's some underlying reference here to the debate about nuclear escalation...
Leaving the thematic elements aside, the characters are alright, though Kirk is very on edge (almost angsty) through the whole novel. That's in part because the Klingon captain who's after him, has a very personal vendetta against Kirk. And he's attacking the rest of the crew as a means to hurt him. That means, it's trauma time for Jim. The scenes aboard the Klingon ship, where the captain and his priest bicker like an old married couple, reminded me a lot to "World Without End", a novel by this author's brother. There's also an odd introduction of an original character: Dr. Kelly Davis. She doesn't do anything significant in the novel, other than helping McCoy to find a cure for the virus. I don't understand why this role couldn't be assigned to an established character like Chapel. It almost seems as if the author knew someone named Kelly Davis in real life, and wanted to make a homage to this person.
Spirk Meter: 0/10*. Kirk seems more irritated by Spock than anything else. Spock ends up risking his life to save everyone, but his apparent death doesn't seem to perturb Kirk more than usual. No, Kirk's affections in this novel go rather in another direction...
Right, this is McKirk territory. First we have Kirk confessing his trauma to McCoy in his cabin, and the doctor's solution to this is both of them getting drunk. Dr. Davis enters then, and she must have felt the sexual tension, since she steps out and asks if she's "interrupting something". Later on, Kirk tells McCoy that he looks dashing in his dress uniform, and that he'll help improve their image when acting as ambassadors in the planet. He jokes about McCoy's uniform being so tight because he's gaining weight (who? that skinny little guy? I doubt it, but whatever). And all this joking is just Kirk's method to ease McCoy's mind before beaming down, as the transporter makes the doctor so nervous. In the end, once everyone has recovered from the no-violence virus, Kirk can happily resume his BDSM routine with McCoy. He calls him a "dirty old man". And both of them start hitting each other in the arm, playfully and giggling like idiots. This creates a wave of love in the bridge, as Sulu and Chekov also hit each other and roll on the floor while playing (true!), and Uhura hugs Dr. Davis. Spock, that nobody loves in this novel, comments that such behavior is fascinating but childish.
*A 10 in this scale is the most obvious spirk moments in TOS. Think of the back massage, "You make me believe in miracles", or "Amok Time" for example.

Watching Star Trek TOS and loving it! Sex pollen!!
The Return of the Archons
Jim Spock shenanigans shenanigans it was ok enough.
Gotta say I'm all for criticism of organized religion
.
Space Seed
So I met Khan (not the Benedict Cumberbatch whitewashed version)! The episode was good, lots of good dialogue, a solid plot and an uncertain ending (kofkof uncertain for them).
The toxic masculinity vibes were off the charts though:
First, I'm not commenting on McGivers instantly falling for the hyper masculine guy, accepting his abusive behaviour and choosing to stay with him; because if I do, I'll get mad. But you know, it's terrible and I hate it.
Then the admiration for Khan, "the best and most dangerous of the tyrants" expressed by Scotty, Bones and Jim. Sigh. Of course it's all three of them, the only one out being Spock ("Illogical"). We're supposed to take away that it's because he doesn't feel the human/manly appeal of courage, ambition, greatness or whatever. Honestly not even IC? (sorry but I don't want to picture Jim and Bones as real life fans of Napoleon lmao they are the worst)
SPOCK: Gentlemen, this romanticism about a ruthless dictator is KIRK: Mister Spock, we humans have a streak of barbarism in us. Appalling, but there, nevertheless. SCOTT: There were no massacres under his rule. SPOCK: And as little freedom. MCCOY: No wars until he was attacked. SPOCK: Gentlemen.
You tell them Spock!
MCCOY: Well, either choke me or cut my throat. Make up your mind.
Instant classic
MCCOY: Well, there aren't any regulations against romance, Jim.
Duly noted!
Jim thinking he and the bridge crew were dying and recommending commendations in his log? Him being in the decompression chamber being murdered? I was on the verge of tears then
Tumblr media
jsbfjhe i'm sorry i can't take it seriously this shot is so funny
SPOCK: Surprised to see you Captain, though pleased. JIM: I'm a little pleased myself
they're so dumb (lovingly)
SPOCK: It would be interesting, Captain, to return to that world in a hundred years and to learn what crop has sprung from the seed you planted today. KIRK: Yes, Mister Spock, it would indeed.
Tumblr media
.
A Taste of Armageddon
Wow the plot's heavy but powerful. The whole episode is dark but hopeful ending! (plus pissed off Jim is v sexy)
Tumblr media
Death, destruction, disease, horror. That's what war is all about, Anan. That's what makes it a thing to be avoided. You've made it neat and painless. So neat and painless, you've had no reason to stop it. And you've had it for five hundred years.
I've given you back the horrors of war.
Ending a 500-year war is just one of many things Captain Kirk does!
And of course:
SPOCK: Captain, you almost make me believe in luck. KIRK: Why, Mister Spock, you almost make me believe in miracles.
I love them ._.
.
This Side of Paradise
OMG OMG IT'S HAPPENING THIS IS NOT A DRILL!! SEX POLLEN!!!
The perfect mix of fun and tension in this episode! Loved it!
Jim's confusion at Spock is everything. When he says "Spock" - clears his throat - "Mr Spock"
Jim being his dramaqueen self "In effect, I am marooned here."
Jim's immunity is his sense of duty what a goody two-shoes (affectionate)
The idea that anger/strong emotion is necessary ties up nicely to The Enemy within
Then the scene... You know which one... Did I have to pause because Jim was being so mean to Spock it was a bit much to watch? maybe!!
SPOCK: You did that to me deliberately. KIRK: Believe me, Mister Spock, it was painful in more ways than one.
My heart!
SPOCK: Captain. Striking a fellow officer is a court martial offence. KIRK: Well, if we're both in the Brig, who's going to build the subsonic transmitter? SPOCK: That is quite logical, Captain.
Sooo dumb <3
The scene between Layla and Spock was lovely too!
Tumblr media
MCCOY: Well, that's the second time man's been thrown out of paradise. KIRK: No, no, Bones. This time we walked out on our own. Maybe we weren't meant for paradise. Maybe we were meant to fight our way through. Struggle, claw our way up, scratch for every inch of the way.
This after the reference to Milton two eps ago! Yes! Yes to all of this!!!

star trek fic recs:
(i've never done this before so bear with me)
TOS:
- Spoctoria series by @waldorph and @screamlet
WC: 78k / Rating: Explicit / Status: Complete / Relationship: Spirk, Spock & Sybok, Spock & T'pring / Genre: Longform Plot, Falling in Love, Royalty AU
Summary: "Spock is heir to the Federation throne, Jim is Prince of America because his fucking brother abdicated, and the Klingons are on the verge of blowing shit up--a love story."
(listen. listen. literally anything by these two authors will be the best thing you've ever read. but this series? blew my fucking mind with how good it was. something about the the way jim and spock are written, combined with the setting they're in and various bits about the universe is just so delightful. it's been three months and i still think about this series every day)
- The Longest Year series by A_Noone and Hinya_O_Elena
WC: 140k / Rating: Explicit / Status: WIP / Relationship: McSpirk / Genre: Longform Plot, TOS Structure, Self-discovery
Summary: "Leonard McCoy has been through some shit. A terrible divorce, losing his kid, and terrifying life-long spooky weirdness due to having his psionic potential catalyzed by God-Knows-What in high school. When his best friend, James Kirk, finally took command of the Enterprise, things seemed to be looking up -- right up until that damnable green blooded hobgoblin got involved.
This is the Second Year of the Five Year Mission as it could have gone, with angsty romance, harrowing adventures, metaphysical revelations, and McCoy discovering that James Kirk and Spock care more about him that he'll ever know."
(this is one of my favorite hidden gems. it manages to pull of first person pov so excellently, it's dry and witty and funny, the plot is constructed really well)
- To Catch a Fish by Darksknight
WC: 15k / Rating: Mature / Status: Complete / Relationship: Spirk / Genre: Crack, Humor, Fluff
Summary: "Spock’s realized that while he treasures his deep friendship with Jim, he’s come to desire more. He sets out to tell Jim of his feelings, but finds the task... considerably more difficult than he'd first imagined it to be."
(spock is in love with jim. all that's left is to tell him. unfortunately, jim's having a little bit of trouble getting that through his head, so spock has to figure out how to say it in human terms. it's. it's great, go read it. spock catches him two fish and literally sweeps him off his feet, sarek quotes spice girls, and. just read it, please. i promise you won't regret it)
- love is an affliction by WerewolvesAreReal
WC: 5k / Rating: Teen / Status: Complete / Relationship: Spirk, McSpirk / Genre: Crack, Humor
Summary: "“A condition – you're sick? With spontaneous flowers? How do I get rid of them?”
“You do not."
(Or: Hanahaki disease is not fatal, but it is exclusive to Vulcans. Honestly, death would be more dignified.)"
(DROP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND GO READ THIS RIGHT NOW. it's the funniest fucking fic on the entire internet, and i love it with a passion. all of the author's stuff is excellent, especially their fic Ni'Var, but this one lives rent free in my head and i love it beyond words)
- Compromises (The Bridge Between) by purpleeyesandbowties
WC: 30k / Rating: Teen / Status: Complete / Relationship: Spock & OC, Spirk / Genre: Character Study, Coming of Age, Self-discovery
Summary: "There were only three Vulcans at Starfleet Academy. One was a professor. The other was a third year science student, finishing up two credits before a mid-year graduation. The last was T'rin. There had been other Vulcans in the past, but all had graduated before T'rin enrolled. They were all Science track. T'rin was Command track. Her advisor, S'chn T’gai Spock, recommended she enroll in Introduction to Vulcan: Language, History, and Culture, co-taught by himself and a Professor James Kirk.
In which there are cats, classes, compromises, and an unacceptable number of highly emotional conversations.
(i have a fuckin huge soft spot for old married spirk, but that aside, t'rin is the best y'all. i love her so much. she's so cool)
AOS:
- Graduate Vulcan For Fun And Profit by @lazulisong
WC: 15k / Rating: Teen / Status: Complete / Relationship: Jim & and OC, Spirk / Genre: Humor, Character Study
Summary: "It really does take a village to raise a Jim.
The members of the Kelvin's crew watch over Jim as much as he lets them."
(hhhhh this fic made me feel so many things. the characters are written so well and the structure of the writing is so cool. everything by lazulisong is excellent but this fic in particular is my favorite)
- Sacra Familiae series by Joules Mer
WC: 22k / Rating: Teen / Status: Complete / Relationship: McKirk, Pike/Boyce / Genre: Character Study, Relationship Study, Slice of Life, Recovery
Summary: "It makes the skin on the back of his neck prickle— the strangeness of it. There’s a lassitude in his limbs and a tightness in his chest and as a confused shock of jumbled memories and pain come back Chris hears a heart monitor give a little blip of alarm and can’t help but wonder, Am I dead?"
(this series contains some of my favorite pile fics ever. it manages to capture his character so well and the relationships in it feel so fleshed out despite the fact that it's fairly short as a series. it's sweet and a little sad and it made me cry a bit)
- hexagons impromptu trek week 2k21 series by @hexagon
WC: 23k / Rating: Teen / Status: Complete / Relationship: Pike & Kirk, QPL McKirk / Genre: Character Study, Slice of Life
Summary: “"You’ve been so brave, James,” he whispers, and Jim lets out the slightest exhale of shock, his mouth falling open.
or: captaincies and self-doubts and chris finally getting to tell jim he's proud of him"
(this is, hands down, my favorite st slice of life fic. no contest. the dynamic between pike and jim is. indescribable, but it did make me cry quite a bit. the relationship between mccoy and kirk is happy dance worthy, and i don't say that lightly)
- Everything That Disappears by @sagesiren
WC: 20k / Rating: M / Status: Complete / Relationship: McSpirk / Genre: Character Study, Relationship Study, Slice of Life, Falling in Love
Summary: "Jim dropped his duffel and grinned at him. “You’re still calling me ‘kid,’ even though you have a kid now? I love the hair, by the way,” he said, coming over and running a hand through it before turning, smiling down at Jo in the high chair. “This her?”
“No, she’s the decoy kid. I’m hiding the other toddler somewhere else,” Leonard said, rolling his eyes at him.
Or, the one where Leonard is fresh out of gender affirmation surgery, given custody of the daughter he didn't know he had, and in an open relationship with Jim where they don't tell each other anything about their partners."
(ahhhh!!! this fic. just. all of it. jo is such a realistic baby, which is a weird holdup, but i hate when kids are talking dolls instead of the tiny little dumpster fires they are in real life. bones is written delightfully well, the twist at the end is so good and all around an excellent fic)
- VaYehi series by @trekkele
WC: 10k / Rating: Gen / Status: Complete / Relationship: Jim & the bridge crew, Jim & Spock / Genre: Character Study, Slice of Life
Summary: "Every starship Captain has their quirks.
This is less about Kirks, and more about what lies at the heart of it.
In which Jim has his secrets, McCoy is overprotective, the crew learns something new, and Spock is curious. Of course he is."
(these are my absolute favorite jewish trek fics ever. the bridge scene in the first one lives rent free in my head and i actually spent all of wednesday afternoon drawing it instead of studying for midterms. i love the examination of jim's relationship with his judiasm–how he's proud of it but scared of people knowing. it really touched a thread in my heart)

mckirk rec list
Some of my favourites from this pairing, in order of increasing word count. All of the fics listed here are aos inspired (i’m a total spirk shipper when it comes to tos but mckirk has my heart for the aos).
where i lay my hat
Rating: G
Word Count: 5k
“If Bones wants to spend a ridiculous amount of his own salary keeping an empty apartment, then by all means.”
Jim accidentally moves in with Bones over the course of several shore leaves. The relationship progression is lovely.
and i can lend you all my broken parts that might fit (like this)
Rating: E
Word Count: 17k
“Academy Era. First they fall into bed. Then they fall in love”
A study in intimacy.
blueshift
Rating: E
Word Count: 22k
“When Leonard shows up at Starfleet Academy, he wonders just how drunk he was when he met with the recruiter. He has no friends, misses his kid, and if drowning his sorrows doesn't kill him, PT will. Then he meets Jim Kirk again.”
This is probably one of my favourite depictions of a character with depression. A little rushed towards the end, but very well written overall.
Better Strangers
Rating: E
Word Count: 23k
“When Leonard McCoy moves to San Francisco it's to start a new life. Something different from his old life. That means putting up with Starfleet policies, combat classes, idiot hospital employees and Jim Kirk.”
Major focus on Bones working as a doctor, which I love, and the characterizations feel spot on! The ending is a little abrupt.
Denial
Raring: E (teen until the last chapter)
Word Count: 26k
“Denial or, 5 times Bones touched Jim when he wouldn't know, and one time he did. When Leo bumped into the kid at the bar, he never knew that he'd met the one who would save him from his loneliness.”
This is written in a stream of consciousness style which plays out very well. A very sensual piece.
Old Man and the Enterprise
Rating: M
Word Count: not listed but probably ~30k
“The life and times of James T. Kirk and Leonard H. McCoy; a series of short scenes which start on shore leave and end in the indefinable future.”
This is not a sad fic by any means, but it feels mournful and yearning and lovely. gorgeous allusions to literature throughout.
This Business of Art
Rating: M (maybe T+)
Word Count: 46k
“Art culture modern AU mystery --- “Listen, Jim, I don’t know what you’re trying to do. Whether it’s taking the skeletons out of your closet or resurrecting some lost essence your father possessed…it’s not going to work.” He leveled his gaze upon Jim’s own, “It will only bring about more pain and upset everyone you love while you’re at it.” – the problem was, Jim thought, in this world of art and business who did he love, friend or foe?”
It’s a murder mystery and and art AU all in in one! I adore how this author adapted canon tidbits to their AU. Great use of foreshadowing.
Touch and Go (Right in Front is You)
Rating: M
Word Count: 48k
“Four days. That's now long Leonard had known Jim. Four days and eight train rides, during which they'd shared three thermoses of tea, several pints of beer, a handful of snacks and texts, and a red and white tin of mints that started the whole fucking thing.”
This is a great story— the author lived in the area where the story is set, which contributes to the gorgeous world building. It also has a nice focus on friendship and an ensemble cast!
the violence of comets
Rating: T
Word Count: 57k
“Jim has never once, in his life, believed in love. He wears his bare skin with only his own tattoo circling his ankle as a badge of honor. He meets a man named Leonard McCoy on a shuttle in Riverside, Iowa who believes exactly the opposite.”
A very cute AU with a nice focus on building trust.
Love, Like Ghosts
Rating: E
Word Count: 64k
“This is several stories, not just the story of Jim & Bones' epic romance.
Jim's story. "Most would think defeating the Narada was my greatest triumph, but those closest to me know the truth. The Narada was a distant third. My last Kobayashi Maru comes in second-- and not for the reasons you'd think. The first, well..."
Chris's story. "I reached a certain age and thought I knew exactly who I was and what I wanted out of life. Then I walked into an Iowa bar and realized I wasn't the person I thought I knew. Not even close..."
Leonard's story. "You know that story? the one where Pike meets Kirk and there's mentoring and bonding and they tiptoe through the tulips into happily ever? Well, this ain't it. Dipshit."”
The characters are so wonderfully flawed in this fic, it feels like a psychological piece in the best way.
visions
Rating: M
Word Count: 65k
“Jim and Bones met in high school. music was something they shared from the start. Over the years after they parted ways, they find each other again and again, and wonder if there will ever be some version of the future where the two of them can be together”
This is tagged as a high school au, but is primarily set during adulthood. A great example of non-linear storytelling, and a happy ending guaranteed!
Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe
Rating: E
Word Count: 70k
“From Variety, June 2008:
Pavel Chekov ("Charlie X") and Gaila ("Bread and Circuses") have joined the cast of small budget drama "That Which Survives," funded by Fleet's indie arm Academy and supervised by Nyota Uhura. The debut feature from longtime script doctor Leonard McCoy, former show runner on sitcom "Three to Tango," centers on a college student coping with his father's terminal cancer. Chekov plays the son, Gaila the nurse. The father is yet to be cast. Also attached are director James T. Kirk and producer Spock, the team behind the blockbuster spy-girl franchise starring Carol Marcus, the latest of which, "A Taste of Armageddon," opened last month. (A modern-day Hollywood AU.)”
The romance definitely takes the back burner here, which suits the realistic vibe of the fic. the storytelling is really well done.
En Promenade
Rating: E
Word Count: 73k
“After three months of weekend bar-hopping and a slow process of elimination -- with finding the right bar, that was, and tragically not discovering who Bones was into -- Jim was starting to narrow it down. Bones was actively scowling less, which seemed like a good sign, but Jim still didn’t quite have it right, and lo, he was determined.”
It’s the dancing fic. One of my all-time favourites, this is an excellent academy-era fic with a plot that manages to be both absolutely insane but incredibly compelling.
Friends with all my Demons
Rating: E
Word Count: 93k
“Someone has to teach Jim Kirk how to take care of himself, ‘cause he sure as hell isn’t picking it up on his own.”
A gorgeous academy-era slow burn, strong focus on medicine and how bones balances being jim’s doctor and his friend which was really nice to read.
Catching Fire (The Firehouse AU)
Rating: E
Word Count: 137k
“21st Century fire department AU. Paramedic Leonard McCoy flees a disastrous break-up in Savannah and ends up working at a fire department in Iowa.”
The character development in this fic is exquisite, and Bones makes for a great unreliable narrator which allows for some great set ups.
Two Men and a Motorbike
Rating: E
Word Count: 150k
Alternate Link AO3 Link
“One of the few constants in James Kirk's life the last three years has been his best friend, Leonard McCoy. After saving Earth from a bunch of crazy time-traveling Romulans, Jim & Bones find out what happens when best friends cross the line between friendship and something more after a late night ride on Jim's motorbike. There are good times and bad times, and times that are just plain complicated.”
A post-Narada academy fic that’s simultaneously a total romp and wonderfully endearing. Also has a 60k sequel with an emotionally mature depiction of two (admittedly fucked up) individuals navigating a romantic relationship.
Switch
Rating: E
Word Count: 230k
“The life and times of Leonard H. McCoy MD/PhD … If Leonard McCoy's life could get any fucking weirder, it would be … Jesus, he didn't even want to think what that could possibly mean, because it's already been too fucking weird to make any kind of rational sense. A Starfleet Academy story, set in the ST:XI universe.”
For me this is THE mckirk fic. The storytelling is so seductive. It’s beautifully written and the characters are deeply compelling.

I think Journey to Babel is an interesting episode for a lot of reasons, though a big part of that is that it explores Spock's relationships with not just the people around him, but also with rules.
If this was someone's first episode of TOS, but they were familiar with more recent material, this iteration of Spock's character would be familiar. He's sticking by rules, to the detriment of both himself and others. And all other characters in this episode, as well as most fans, accept that as Spock's motivations throughout the episode.
But looking at Spock's stated rationale closer, it's clear that that's not what's going on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two gifs from Star Trek: The Original Series. The first gif shows Spock in a blue Starfleet uniform. He is standing in a green room in front of a red-lit glass cupboard that has a vase inside. Spock is captioned saying "My first responsibility is to the ship." The second gif continues Spock's speech, but he is no longer visible, with the shot instead panning to the ship's Doctor (Dr. McCoy) and then to Spock's mom (Amanda). Spock's words are captioned as, "[Our passenger safety is by Starfleet order]". End ID]
Here, Spock's first defense of not going into surgery to save his father's life is over regulations. However, in previous episodes, it's clear that Spock is comfortable disobeying rules for his benefit. In The Menagerie, he commits mutiny to bring Captain Pike to Talos IV, and risks the death penalty by doing so. In The Devil in the Dark, he openly overrides Jim's orders, initially to protect an unknown species, then later to protect Jim. If Spock and Jim weren't so close, both of these instances could likely lead to criminal charges.
And yet, he gets cold feet here. Even if a regulation existed that prevented Spock from temporarily stepping down (which I highly doubt), he's not one to shy away from breaking regulations when he sees fit.
(Also, does the verbiage in that first gif sound familiar to anyone? That's almost word-for-word what he said to Leila when he was letting her down in This Side of Paradise; I half-expected him to finish with "to that man on the bridge". Perhaps that's a subtle indication of where Spock really feels his responsibility lies.)
He then gets a bit more specific, in saying he doesn't want to hand over command in such a stressful situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two gifs of Spock in his room, in front of an intersection between a white and green wall. He is making eye contact with and speaking to Amanda offscreen. Over the two gifs, his words are captioned: "Any competent officer can command the ship under normal circumstances. / The circumstances are NOT normal." The word "normal" in the first gif is underlined. End ID]
Oddly, that's a completely different defense. And not a logical one, since Scotty has been at the helm in equally stressful situations, like in A Taste of Armageddon, or The Apple, for example. It would even be a reasonable argument that Scotty is better in command than Spock, considering how stressed Spock got in The Galileo Seven. Also, because Spock is in his room here, someone else who's capable of command must be at the helm already, so why don't they just stay there? As much as I hate to admit it, Amanda was right-- before she went on her racist and manipulative tirade-- in that Spock should be able to hand over command to someone else.
He also talks to his mom about Vulcan philosophies, but given how it doesn't benefit anyone to have an acting captain who's so keenly distracted, it's not a logical argument to stick with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: A set of three gifs from the same scene as above, where Spock is talking to his mother. They are standing in front of a white wall with red lighting. He paces around her such that his face is only visible in the second and third gif. Amanda's expressions are never shown to camera. He is captioned saying, "It means to adopt a philosophy, a way of life, / Which is logical and beneficial / We cannot disregard that philosophy merely for personal gain." End ID]
So, what's making Spock behave like this? I don't think his sudden inflexibility here is because he cares for Sarek less than Jim and Captain Pike. That may be true, but Spock was the one who suggested the experimental procedure, and already volunteered as a donor before Kirk got injured. It's also not to impress his dad with Vulcan stoicism, since Sarek wouldn't live to see that play out.
In answer to that question, the episode posits that Spock's distress over his dad's critical condition makes him unable to think clearly. Though, Spock wasn't contradicting himself like this until Kirk got hurt. Before Jim's injury, he was following a coherent thought and behavior pattern (as in: dad is injured -> research ways to help -> talk to the doctor about it). But afterwards, his level-headedness went out the window, to the extent that when he went into the surgery (only after being led to believe Kirk was okay), he was restless and asking for Jim, despite the fact that he should have been unconscious from medication.
Tumblr media
[ID: A gif of an operation from the same episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. In it, Dr. McCoy and Nurse Chapel are standing over an unconscious Sarek. He is wearing a green surgical blanket and his chest is underneath an angular grey medical device. Spock is laying in a different bed, and between them is a wall mount that connects four tubes; the two coming from Spock's side have a light green liquid, and the two going to Sarek have dark green liquid, to indicate the filtering of Vulcan blood. Spock is awake, sat up in bed, when Bones asks, "Where do you think you're going?" and Spock replies, "I must see the captain." Nurse Chapel reaches for a syringe. End ID]
I'd be willing to buy that both his dad and Jim's injuries causes Spock to be stressed out of his mind. However, the pacing of the episode shows that it's Jim's less severe stab wound that pushes him over the edge, to the point where he's forgetting things and not able to justify himself. I even believe Spock thought his actions were logical, he just lacked the self-awareness to realize he was incapacitated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: A set of two gifs, where Spock is lying upright in a sick patient bed. He's wearing an outpatient robe, and behind him is a red pillow and grey metallic headboard. Spock is staring at the floor until partway through the second gif, until he looks up to make eye contact with Kirk offscreen. Over the two gifs, his words are captioned: "The thing I don't understand / Is why I didn't think of it earlier." End ID]
I don't have a good conclusion here, other than that his actions make no sense unless he was worried sick (about Jim, specifically), which destroyed his rationality, objectiveness, and reverted him to Vulcan emotional barriers in a situation where it's illogical to have them. It's baffling to me that no one in the episode questioned Spock's logic, since his sudden adherence to rules is inconsistent with how he behaves normally, but it does fit in with his tendency to get agitated when Jim is injured.

I’ll Be Right There
I have ten million things to work on. Have some TOS Spirk.
Angst with a happy ending.
---
It was hard enough to sleep alone, but the nightmares made it damn near impossible. Kirk woke with a gasp, cold sweat beading on his forehead, grasping at wounds he didn’t even have.
His middle throbbed, and as he sat up he ran a hand over the ridged bandage, wincing. Remembering, even as the last dregs of dream faded away.
Why did shore leave always have to go so wrong? He could still feel the impact of phaser bolt to flesh, the collision of head to stone. The pool of warm blood spread out beneath him. A stomach wound with no major organ damage was easy enough to fix, according to Bones. A couple of days and he was out of the medbay with orders not to make any sudden movements.
It didn’t hurt damn near as bad as watching Spock take three phaser shots to the chest, plasma sizzling through favric and skin, his eyes widening almost comically, as if he were enduring one of McCoy’s illogical insults.
And he’d felt it, through their bond. Kirk’s chest still burned even now. He clenched his fists, biting the nails deep into the palms to try to quell the shaking.
Th’y’la. Spock’s voice unfurled in his mind, quiet and weak. His presence was barely there, but it was, and that brought relief so intense Kirk could’ve cried. Why aren’t you resting?
Kirk took a deep breath that hitched, tried to compose himself before answering. I could ask you the same thing.
I felt your distress.
There was a touch of concern there, some emotion peeking through the shield of Vulcan indifference; Spock probably didn’t have the strength to maintain it. Kirk suppressed a watery smile, well aware there was no one in his quarters to give it to. There’s no need to worry about me, Spock. How do you feel?
A pause, lasting so long that he would’ve thought Spock had fallen asleep if not for his quiet presence hovering at the edge of Kirk’s mind. I will recover.
There was an edge of pain to his voice, though it would embarrass Spock to point it out. Instead, Kirk stood up, ignoring the stab of pain from his middle. I’ll be right there.
He threw on a gold shirt before leaving his quarters.
The medbay was dark and only Nurse Chapel sat at the desk when he entered, her pretty face illuminated by the light of her tablet.
“You’re in a rush,” she said. “Are you feeling alright, Captain?”
“Yes, yes, of course,” Kirk reassured her, even though it was a bald-faced lie: he felt like he’d been stabbed all over again, and in his hurry to reach the medbay he was almost certain the wound had started bleeding again. “I am here to see Mister Spock.”
Nurse Chapel shook her head. “I’m afraid the last time I checked on him he was still asleep.”
“That’s quite alright. I’ll see him anyway.” Kirk went to brush by her but she caught his arm.
“I understand you have-“ she started, but seemed to think better of it. She let go of his arm and took a step back, her eyes soft. “I’ll bring you a chair, Captain.”
Kirk was already nodding, already turning away. “Yes, thank you, Nurse.”
Spock was in rough shape; his face was bruised green and dark, tired circles ringed his eyes. Heavy bandages plastered his bare chest and he was hooked up to what seemed like a dozen machines, all of which beeped and booped, monitoring his vitals and administering fluids as needed.
“Jim,” Spock croaked, struggling to raise a hand, to extend two fingers for a Vulcan kiss.
Instead of meeting it, Kirk took his hand tightly in his own and bent over to kiss him properly. He tasted like the plastic tube he’d been intubated with.
Behind them, Nurse Chapel cleared her throat. “Uh, Captain?”
Kirk stood up quickly in some attempt to regain his dignity, a flush creeping up his neck. He noted with satisfaction that, for once, he’d left Spock breathless. “Yes, Nurse Chapel?”
She set down the chair she’d been carrying. Ever the professional, if she was caught off guard by stumbling upon the Captain and First Officer engaged in unprofessional activity, she refused to show it. “Your chair.”
“Thank you.” Kirk waited for her to retreat before repositioning the chair close to the bed. He settled with a soft sigh and took Spock’s hand once more, pressing soft kisses to his fingers.
“Such public displays of affection are inappropriate,” Spock admonished, but didn’t withdraw his hand or the amusement in the arch of one delicate eyebrow.
With his free hand Kirk gestured to the machines, to his own wound. “I think today we can make an exception.” He hesitated. Looked down at their clasped hands. Felt something inside him give. “You look like hell, Spock.”
“And you yourself appear unwell.”
Kirk chuckled. “I can’t sleep. Not without nightmares.”
Spock pulled his hand free, and before Kirk could protest too loudly he pressed his fingers to the side of the captain’s face and closed his eyes, initiating a mind-meld.
Immediately Kirk was engulfed in emotion. Pain. Fear. Everything Spock had felt when they were attacked. He watched through Spock’s eyes as he was shot, sunlight glinting harshly off the phaser bolt, and he watched through Spock’s eyes as he fell, blood spattering the sand of that nice M-class planet. He floundered, struggling against the mind-meld, but was completely unable to break free of it.
And then it all went away. Waves of calm washed over him. He was dimly aware of being touched, of a world outside of his consciousness, of Spock speaking in a low voice. He couldn’t quite make out what he was saying, but he felt comforted nonetheless.
He slumped in the chair, the pain in his stomach fading to a dull ache, his head lolling. He felt Spock end the mind-meld– felt the absence like a hole in his heart– but he was already asleep, far too tired to protest.
Bones was none too surprised to find Kirk in the medbay when he arrived to relieve Nurse Chapel. The love-stricken bastard seemed to be glued to Spock’s side nowadays.
He held his tablet with both hands and eyed Spock, who was doing a decent job of appearing to be asleep. But he knew better; you didn’t become CMO of a starship by not being able to read a simple vital machine. “I know you’re awake,” he said gruffly. “Stop pretending so I can take a look at you.”
Spock opened his eyes, fixing him with a look that was a little too bold for someone at his mercy. “Merely meditating, Doctor,” he said. “It is beneficial to the body.”
“Yes, yes.” Bones waved a hand. “I’m well aware of your Vulcan mind-tricks. Meditation won’t return you to your duties any faster.”
Spock opened his mouth to reply but Bones cut him off by jabbing his stylus in Kirk’s direction. The captain was fast asleep, and didn’t look like he’d be moving anytime soon. “I couldn't even get him to sleep. How’d you manage it?”
Spock arched an eyebrow in a way that made Bones want to smack him. “Only my Vulcan mind-tricks, Doctor.”

You know this has got me in a pretty deep (Obsession) which is the name of S2 episode 13 of Star Trek tos.
Better luck next time on that opening:
- Kirk’s on edge…
- Star Trek horror episode when?
- is this inspiration for when Doctor Crusher fucks a ghost
- god I love Chapel
- Hot new redshirt is probably the shapeshifter (edit: this is just wrong)
- The fucking gas is sneaking up on ‘em. Of all the things to die to it’s the vampire gas
- Kirk’s boyfriends both think that they should leave and deliver the supplies. Two versus one AND it’s the two that always fight against their favourite idiot
- Kirk ignoring both McCoy AND Spock is not a good sign
- The chief security guy dramatically flopping on his bed is so relatable bbygirl
- Kirk getting paranoid about his bridge crew “conspiring” is like. haven’t you learned trust? Haven’t you learned love? I guess he’s still a soldier at heart or smt
- “I hope I’m not disturbing you, Doctor.” “Interrupting another autopsy report is no disturbance, Mr. Spock. It’s a relief” I just remembered that they’re married and in love
- Spock outright asking McCoy for his advice/opinion is like. YEAH he respects you, he has his own beliefs and ideals but he wants to hear from you! And when he’s worried about your (boy)friend he wants you to be on the same page as him. He wants you to validate his thoughts.
- whatever the fuck this is
Tumblr media
- “Mind if I come in?” McCoy you shouldn’t be able to just enter people’s quarters like that. Can’t you see he’s writing his diary and listening to Mitski in bed?
- Oh my Bones pulling out the big guns.. AND SPOCK. Oh they really were conspiring. You know if they worked together like this more often, they could literally do anything. Like kiss.
- Genuinely unsure if the gas is intelligent or not. I like the mystery of this one.
- “Jim, we’re not trying to gang up on you.” They are though and it’s probably for the best
- Love how the entire bridge crew is just like “this isn’t healthy. Kirk, this is concerning behaviour.”
- OH WOW Kirk came so close to blowing up his own ship
- “Self pity’s a terrible first course, how about you try the soup.” Christine Chapel is literally the best. She also knows how to make threats, not even McCoy knows about (I love how terrifying the medical department is)
- I want a pair of those slutty boots
- McCoy is fucking furious
- “I’m sorry, Jim. I was wrong.” McCoy in short sleeves <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Spock genuinely trying to comfort Kirk cause he has an unhealthy obsession with the creature and Kirk dismissing it
- Spock then trying to comfort the ensign
- He breaks the vent controls with his strength then tries to COVER IT WITH HIS HANDS. Spock, babygirl, that is not logical
Tumblr media
- “Don’t misunderstand my next question. Mr. Spock, why aren’t you dead?” Happy to see you too, Jim
- “Bet he left a bad taste in the creatures mouth.” “Colloquially expressed, but essentially correct.” That is a fucking banger line
- KIRK HEALING ARC
- Spock and Bones at odds once again
- Of course Kirk is gonna be self sacrificial and Spock is going to try and self sacrifice himself.. admittedly Spock had the more logical thought process
- HE FUCKIN KARATE CHOPPED HIS NECK . WHAT THE HECK NEW GUY?!?
- I’d love if I lived on the enterprise and got little updates through the comms by Chekov “stand by for shockwaves.” Of course thank you :))
- Spock is like “I’m to thank, not god, thank me Jim.”
- Kirk healing <3
Better episode than I thought it would be :)

Based off of the drabble prompts here!
Break Me—Write an angsty drabble. [Kirk/Spock, TOS—pre relationship, City on the Edge of Forever]
——
The furnace burned out hours ago, and Spock was shivering in their apartment—the flop, as Jim had called it— as he sat and worked with a surgical precision on the transistor panels of the crude motherboard that was laying across the second bed.
Spock’s eyes didn’t raise to the door as he heard it open, Full footsteps entered the room, along with the cloying smell of feminine perfume mingled with pine and musk.  He didn’t need to ask to know where Kirk had been.
Kirk froze in the doorway.  “I didn’t think you’d be awake.”
“We have an unknown deadline that draws closer the longer we remain in this century.  If we do not find the singularity—“ he tried to keep his shuddering to a minimum.
“If you’re going to try and burn the midnight oil, you might actually want to burn something.”  Kirk’s footfalls grew closer as he made his way to the furnace, grabbing a log and tossing it into their wood-stove “It’s chilly in here.”
“We must conserve resources.”
He huffed as he lit the furnace, his face in a raptures, golden glow that glinted off his eyes as they turned to look at him.  “Spock, if I have to drag you half-frozen to a hospital in the middle of Earth’s 20th century, I think we’d be looking at bigger problems than resource conservation.  Besides, I’m sure Edith would be more than willing to lend us some supplies if it meant not freezing for the night.”  His features softened in the fire.  Spock had never recalled a time he’d seen him so relaxed.  A Vulcan should have felt nothing.  A friend should have been grateful.  Neither described the twist in his abdomen as he moved on to the next coupling of wires on his board.  “I’d make it up to her.”
“What if Doctor McCoy arrives tomorrow?”
“I’ll deal with that tomorrow, then.”
“She cannot take precedence over the ship, Jim.”
“I don’t need you to remind me of my priorities!”
“I would not if I saw no reason—“  A shudder ripped through him in violent waves against his spine, and by the wide eyed shock in Kirk’s face, he hadn’t succeeded in concealing this one.
Warm hands that smelled like her brushed against his cheek.   “You’re freezing.”
There were a dozen things Spock should have said as Kirk pulled him away from his work and led him towards the bed.  A hundred more when Kirk began pulling off their clothes, bundling them together beneath the blankets as any man trained in survival would.  A thousand as he felt skin, heat, and a heart that didn’t beat for him radiating against his back.  And against all logic, he sank against arms that weren’t meant to hold him and felt that voice he’d follow anywhere drone against him as the room filled with idle chatter about survival tactics and 20th century economics and Edith Keeler—
And for the first time since they had arrived in this archaic century, Spock could understand why Kirk wanted to hold onto an illusion a little longer.

✨2022 Writing Year In Review✨
I was tagged by @birdkeeperklink! Thank you! It was fun!
1. Number of stories posted to AO3: 13 + 1 wip started in 2021
2. Word count posted for the year: 23 277 👀
3. Fandoms I wrote for: Star Trek TOS (dsc, snw), MCU
4. Pairings: Kirk/McCoy, Spock/McCoy, Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
5. Story with the most:
(for all of these it would be Caught in the Storm (190, 15, 42) but it’s a wip that I first posted in 2021 so...)
- Kudos: For This Space Would Be Hollow If You Were Gone (93)
- Bookmarks: For This Space Would Be Hollow If You Were Gone (18)
- Comments: Silence (9)
6. Work I’m most proud of (and why):
"Silence” because I actually wrote about Tarsus IV, and I kept being strong and only used my own headcanon/interpretation~
7. Work I’m least proud of (and why):
“Letter” because I don’t like when I’m writing fluff, I just never think it comes off the way I want and also feels immature (even though people seem to like it 😂)
8. Share or describe a favorite review you received:
I get a lot of lovely reviews and many people say nice things, especially about my characterization, but I think this one is among my faves:
This was very well done! It made my chest ache and made me tear up a couple of times. TOS McKirk really deserves more love, and I enjoy how you've built up this trust between them to work with what we get on screen. Even if you don't do a sequel to this, I think you should write more TOS McKirk in general! You captured them very well.
because it was left on my very first mckirk fic that I still love dearly. And it’s just so “I made someone feel something?” 👀👀👀
9. A time when writing was really, really hard:
I feel like I’m going through times when it’s easy then it’s hard then it’s easy again and it all blends together. (You can usually tell whenever I “complain” on tumblr lol) The last time, it was just before Christmas because I was so stressed from not having everything done, but the moment I actually bought presents I felt better lol
10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:
It feels weird to say now, but And All I Ask..., the first mckirk fic. Like, I literally woke up one day and was like let’s write a tos!mckirk fic. And romantic one even. I’d never expected that to happen. And in that fic in particular, there’s a scene where Kirk and McCoy both kiss the same woman, and that whole scene was also very surprising when I came up with it.
11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:
A loud thunder sounded, and McCoy startled, his shoulder brushing Jim’s. Jim pressed closer, hoping to convey he was there and McCoy wasn’t alone. Sitting in the dark could sometimes feel as if there was no one else, as if you were the only person in the universe. All alone.
Jim let out a breath and stretched out his leg, letting the side rest against McCoy’s thigh. Maybe it wasn't McCoy Jim wanted to reassure. Maybe it was he who needed to know he wasn't alone. Who needed to feel another person's presence in this dark place.
"Do you ever regret joining?" Jim asked, breaking the silence.
McCoy scoffed. "Sure. Right now."
"McCoy."
"My..." McCoy cleared his throat. "My daughter's fourteenth birthday is next week."
Marriage. Daughter. Jim dug his fingers into the soft ground. Did he even know anything about McCoy?
from And All I Ask...
12. How did you grow as a writer this year:
I don’t think I did? idk I always feel like I’m just getting worse, instead of moving forward, I’m going back... I would reread fics I wrote in 2016 and feel like they’re more creative and more fun, and I start to feel like I’m stagnating.
13. How do you hope to grow next year:
I wish I could let go of “people expect to see established fanon” way of thinking, I wish I could stop caring what other people think, I wish I could write a fic where I won’t need to include anything that I know the fandom expects. I just hope that I’ll be able to write a fic the way I want without making compromises... I also want to work on structure of my one-shots.
14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):
Jim Kirk lol
15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:
I don’t think so.
16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:
If you’re stuck, retype your fic again. Or chapter/scene if your fic is too long. You might not change anything (but you most likely will, even if it’s just your wording or a word choice), but you will also get back into the flow and it’s easier to continue. And it’s better than staring at a screen with no result.
17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:
At the moment, I’m working on a fic with a pair of characters I’ve never thought I would want to write about (I mean the dynamic, one of them is Kirk because of course it is lol), but here I am, wanting to tell a short moment in time with the two of them. I’m being vague and don’t want to say too much, because I’m afraid that if I mention it, I will lose the drive to write it.
18. Tag some writers whose answers you’d like to read.
@swimmingwolf59, @dahyeltal, @markcampbells. No pressure!

Another iconic Beyond moment.
The fact that they are talking about Bones without having to name him. They just know each other well enough. They know him.
The fact that Spock is like, fuck it I spent the last several hours (days???) with him. His presence isn't so bad. I can handle it a bit longer. I already thought we were going to die together once. I can do it again.
Kirk being like, here we go again. Another southern gentlemanly rant about how he's a doctor not something else. These two idiots better know how much I love them because I am so fucking tired.
Bones screaming inside and trying to be marginally calm on the surface. You know he is cussing Spock and Jim up one side and down the other. You know it. We almost got to see it.

not the way Kirk says, "Spock, it seems only fair to warn you that I have absolutely no intention of obeying Admiral Diegaro's order to abandon an entire planet of innocent beings to horrible deaths. Since this makes me unequivocally guilty of insubordination, I'll understand if you need to relieve me of command and put me in the brig."
And Spock responding with an arched eyebrow, "And who will put me in the brig with you?"

silly little headcanon time
since we get to see Spock basically quote Sherlock Holmes, it is now my belief that he's read the books.
Sherlock was Spock's first crush. He found his logic and demeanor interesting and flattering, appreciated the way he never had time for people that weren't willing to listen to him and/or some sort of asset to him. Appreciated that Sherlock plays violin, especially when he needs time to just sit and ponder some big mystery. Found his chemical dependency illogical but could over look it because he was amazing to read about. There wasn't anything Sherlock couldn't achieve with his logic and higher level of thinking. And then Spock grew a bit older and realized that wasn't a crush at all, it was more along the lines of representation. He related to Sherlock, he wasn't crushing on the man. With that knowledge he decided to spend his spare time rereading his mother's old books.
Only on his reread the only character he could seem to pay attention to was Dr. John Watson. The way he acted without thinking, how angry he would get with Sherlock for being so apathetic towards everyone and everything that wasn't the case he was actively involved with. The way Watson seemed to balance out the parts of Sherlock that were disliked by the vast majority of characters in the story. The head strong soldier who was willing to risk it all to help someone in need. He found his infatuation with John Watson fascinating. Eventually he finishes his reread of the old stories and gets caught up in growing up.
He recalls Sherlock Holmes from time to time, typically in passing, often when he looks at a fellow Starfleet officer and says, "Once you eliminate the impossible whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
And then he meets the hard headed, fiery, strong willed cadet who already - in his first two weeks in the academy - made a reputation for himself being quick to act, James Tiberius Kirk.

When the events of Star Trek 2009 take place Chekov is 17.
He is seventeen when he witnesses the death of almost six billion people.
Seventeen when he saves Sulu and Kirk from slamming to their deaths but minutes later loses Amanda as the surface of Vulcan gives way & he is unable to lock onto her signal. He's a child, the death of someone else's mother is on his hands.
Chekov watched as a few elders and Spock appeared in the transporter, saw the look of devastation on his face as Spock realized his mother was now gone. They returned to the bridge and watched as a planet died, knowing there was nothing to be done about it.
Chekov's calculations were correct and it must have been the worst feeling in the universe. He had to hope - even if it was just in the back of his head - that he was wrong. He had most likely never wished for anything more in his young life.
All of this... only to then be present when Kirk forced Spock into showing that he was emotionally compromised. Hearing Kirk goad Spock with, "It must not even compute for you. You never loved her!" only to see someone he most likely admires lose his mind. No one on the bridge, except his father, could have imagined Spock in such a state.
You can't convince me that Chekov didn't internalize that. He had to have been feeling poorly as it was - to run through the halls shouting, "I can do that I can do that!" and save two men only to lose someone a few moments later in a similar situation. I know I'm repeating myself here but I remember being 17 and internalizing all kinds of things.
The one break Chekov probably had was taken from him when Spock snapped. To see Spock react logically must have been a level of comfort, even if on some level Chekov knew it was probably a lie.
And then to be the one that came up with the plan to hide the entirety of the Enterprise??? To go through all of that and still be mentally present is a kind of strength that is unimaginable for me.
I like to think that after the events of that day McCoy is making his rounds, checking in on everyone. When he gets to Chekov the kid smiles and says, "Everything is fine with me, sir."
McCoy gives him a look before responding, "Ever eager, huh? You didn't even let me ask my question."
"What question is that?"
"How are you?"
Three simple words. And Chekov's illusion he built for himself shatters.
Seeing Vulcan destroyed was bad enough. But he hasn't been able to sleep without seeing Amanda disappear from the screen, seeing Spock hit Kirk over and over with displaced rage, hearing Spock's voice shake as he says, "Doctor, I am no longer fit for duty. I here by relinquish my command based on the fact that I have been emotionally compromised. Please note the time and date in the ship's log.", or waking up scared that Spock will blame him, because why wouldn't he?

The look Spock gives him 🙃 he knows in that moment he can't leave Jim, despite what logic might say is best for New Vulcan.

Dear Shaw,
how is it humanly possible for one company to be this many ways of incompetent?
Signed I already sent you the PoA that’s how I made changes to my Mom’s account in the first place if you’ve managed to lose the PoA in the last two weeks while fixing the accounts you royally fucked up thereby locking me AND you out that’s a you problem.
P.S. When you sort  yourself out feel free to call me and tell me what you wanted to talk about this morning but couldn’t because I’m no longer authorized on the account you created on my instructions before you lost the PoA.
Fuck.

Hmmm. When asked about filming Star Trek 4, Karl said he knows nothing but he’s filming The Boys S4 at the end of the year (which is when Paramount claimed ST4 would shoot). :(

Shipping Experiment– Spock
Pairing: Spock x reader (gender neutral)
Warnings: involuntary drunkenness
Words: 3686
A/N: I got this idea when I stumbled upon a BTS picture of the AOS movie productions. Then I discussed it with @cleversturmhond and decided it had to be written. I know the pic is for AOS but can be read for TOS as well.

Being an Ensign usually meant that you couldn’t go on many away missions. So it was always something very special for you to get chosen. You only hoped that your husband had no saying in it because you wanted to be chosen because of your skills and not the fact that you were married to the Chief Science Officer and First Officer of the ship. On the other hand, if it had been Spock’s idea to take you on the mission, it probably had a logical reason, after all he always claimed that he did not make emotional decisions while on duty. Maybe you could ask him later on who had had the idea to allow you to come to the mission.
For a reason you were surprised to learn that the aliens that lived on the planet were very friendly because so far you had usually only heard stories of how the landing party had been almost killed or abducted by the inhabitants of the planet. The natives even invited you for dinner and the Captain immediately agreed. You on the other hand didn’t know if it was such a good idea to just eat foreign food, what if it was poisonous for you? Sure, Kirk claimed that the alien’s physiology was not that different from your own but it still was no guarantee that the food would not hold and unpleasant surprises.
Unfortunately, the meal tasted a bit bland but otherwise it was very good and you ate a lot, probably more than usual. They even served some kind of ‘dessert’, just that it consisted of a bitter drink. After the meal, you were allowed to watch some kind of welcome dance the natives did for you and also encouraged all of you to dance as well. To your surprise, even Spock joined them a bit later, but probably only because four of your hosts were pulling on his arms and trying to get him up and on the dance floor. With determined steps he came over to you, offering you his hand
“Do you mind?”
“I’d love to” you said, taking his hand and placing the other hand on his shoulder. When you had first seen what a skillful dancer he was, you almost couldn’t believe it. Even less that he had never taken dance lessons in secret and just seemed to be a whiz kid, like at everything else. Not that you minded though, it was something you loved about him, how good he was at everything or how quickly he learned if something was indeed new for him. You amused yourself very much and also Spock seemed to do so. But then you saw him smile at you and in shock you let go of him “What’s wrong’” you asked.
“What are you referring to?”
“Your smile, you just smiled”
“I do not believe I did. You must have imagined it”
“Yeah sure, let’s just deny it all as if it was a shame” you said, gently taking hold of him again to continue your dance. Probably you would have just forgotten about it, if his smile had not etched itself into your memory and made it hard to be forgotten. And it wasn’t just his smile, suddenly, he also leaned his forehead against yours and pulled you closer, letting out a small sigh. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Your definition of ‘okay’ is unclear” he muttered
“I want to know if you’re feeling as usual. Or if you think that something’s off”
“Nothing is ‘off’. I simply enjoy having you close”
“Well I take that as a compliment” you pecked his cheek. While some of the other crewmembers seemed to have had enough, Spock was still twirling you around, even more energetic than before. And at times you could have sworn to see a big smile on his face. Finally, the Captain approached you
“I didn’t know dancing made you that happy”
“What are you trying to say?”
“That you’re grinning like a Cheshire cat” Spock raised an eyebrow
“You are referring to the animal from Alice in Wonderland”
“Yeah. You have something of him right now”
“Is it true?’” he asked looking at you
“Yeah you have been smiling at times But that’s okay. As long as it means you’re feeling happy that’s perfect”
“I would not call it ‘perfect’. I do not like not being in control of my emotions” you had stopped dancing by now
“So what are we gonna do? Do you want to go back to the ship?”
“Perhaps that would be a good solution. Then I can extend my meditation period”
“And leave poor (Y/N) all alone down here?” Kirk said, patting your back.
“Or I can just leave with him” you said “I kinda am getting tired from all the dancing”
“I apologize” Spock said “If you wish to accompany me back to the ship you are welcome to do so”
“Perfect” also Jim gave a nod and so your husband and you left the place after bidding your hosts goodbye and requested to be transported back to the ship. On the way to your shared quarters, Spock took your hand and squeezed it. You checked the time “It’s only 2014 hours. Would you like to do something?”
“If you do not mind I would like to engage in meditation for some time”
“Right, you said that you’d do that. I’ll just be reading something then”
-
Two hours later, Spock was still in the bathroom for meditation. But unless most times he was talking to himself. With a sigh you got up and stopped in front of the door. Of course you knew he didn’t like to be disturbed and that meditation was private to Vulcans. Yet you gently knocked at the locked door.
“Are you okay?” you asked with a quiet voice but got now answer “Spock?”
“Yes”
“Sorry for disturbing you but you were talking and I wanted to see if you’re alright”
“I am” he said “Test Object Leonard... Time: 1.28 seconds”
“What are you doing?” you asked, entering the code to open the door. You didn’t know what to say when you saw what he was doing. He had rid himself of his meditation robes and was standing at the sink in underwear, a dozen or more of origami swans or folded boats, made from toilet paper were sitting on top of the sink. In his hand, he held your lip balm, which he obviously had used to write something on the mirror “Oh Spock” you said, not sure if it was a good idea to laugh “What’s this?”
“I want to find out how long it takes until the figures are soaked with water and unfold”
“Oh well… uh” you only knew one thing. This was not normal behavior for your husband “What about your robes?” he looked at the pile of clothes, something else atypical because usually he carefully folded and put his clothes away unless he put it in the laundry box (and even for in there he did fold them a little).
“I took them off so they will not get wet”
“Well okay” you moved closer and watched, how he launched a swan called Sulu and noted that it was soaked within 1.31 seconds before noting name and the time on the mirror “Come on, you can drown more toilet paper tomorrow”
“I do not drown it. It is an experiment”
“You still can continue it tomorrow”
“Then the conditions might be different”
“Shouldn’t something be tested under different conditions?” he looked at you then turned back to his ‘experiment’, putting the next thing into the water, this time a boat called Sulu. You had the impression that he had each a swan and a boat that were named after someone of the crew. When you checked the list, you saw that also your name was at the top of the list, making you smile. “Come” you said “You can finish tomorrow. I think you have enough data for today” you pointed at the mirror
“I am not done yet”
“We continue tomorrow. I’ll help you” he looked at you
“Then I can get started with the report now”
“Or we go to bed. It’s late”
“I usually write my reports at around that time”
“Yeah but usually don’t soak toilet paper figures in the sink either. Let’s go” he looked at you
“No!” he said, rather fiercely, making you wince
“Spock!” you insisted “I don’t know what’s wrong with you but you are not alright right now. So let me get you to bed or I’ll call McCoy”
“He will be off duty by now” he grabbed the next swan but you took hold of his wrist.
“I can just call med bay. I bet you’d hate someone else looking at you even more”
“I do not need a doctor, I am fine”
“Don’t you usually not use the word fine because it has no logical definition just like ‘okay’?”
“It does, I only tried to make it clear to you by using your vernacular” still he started a lecture of the different meanings of the two words, depending on the context. You sighed and gently tried to lead him away from the sink and to your surprise and relief he complied. As long as he was talking, you could get him back to your bed room and hand him his sleeping shirt which he put on without further ado. But then he was done with his explanation and the started behaving like a kid again, refusing to but on his pajama trousers and insisted he had to continue his experiment.
“No you don’t. If you go back into the bathroom, I’ll throw all your boats and swans into the toilet and flush them” he stared at you and his mouth fell open slightly. You couldn’t hide a grin
“I will make new ones” he said and left for the bathroom
“No!” you shouted and wrapped your hands around his waist, trying to stop him. But since he was stronger than you, due to his Vulcan heritage, he managed to walk to the bathroom anyways. So you let go of him and went to the intercom instead, contacting Med bay that they came to have a look. After all it was possible that his state could be dangerous. You were quite certain it had to do with something that happened on the planet, probably something he ate or drank. When you ended the communication, you saw that Spock wasn’t in the bathroom anymore. He also wasn’t in the bedroom either “Spock?” you called but you got no answer. His figures were still standing on the sink but you noticed that his lute was gone. With a sigh you started the computer on the desk “Computer, where is Commander Spock?” you asked, not wanting to search him. Besides, he could be everywhere.
“Commander Spock currently is in recreation room 3 on deck 5”
“Oh” you said and left your quarters hurrying there as fast as you could. The scene you saw did shock you but you still had to pull back to not start laughing. It was even worse than what you had seen in the bathroom in your quarters. Spock was still only wearing his nightshirts, boxers and was sitting on one of the tables, seeming to be tuning his lute. And of course he was not alone in the rec room and almost everyone was staring at him or you “Spock!” you hissed as you slowly approached him “What are you doing, honey?” you placed a hand on his arm
“I am not making honey” you rolled your eyes
“I can see that. It wasn’t a question. I meant you by honey”
“Why?”
“You’re not in a state to discuss this. Come, let’s go back. You still have your experiment to finish”
“I am off duty” he said trying out his lute again.
“Well then we just go to bed. Or are you hungry again? Just let’s get you out of here. People are watching” you said quietly. At that, his head shot up and he glared at the people in question and they were quick to look away or pretend to focus on something else. You sighed “Come on. We can come back when you put pants on” he looked down his legs “Yes, you’re only wearing underwear”
“That is not underwear” he gestured at his shirt
“Yeah. But this” you pointed at his boxers. Come” you offered him your hand but he slapped it away, putting a foot on his table and started to play on the lute.
“I would like to play you a song”
“You can do this when I’m in bed. Because I’m very tired” you faked a yawn “Then you can help me fall asleep. How does that sound?”
“As if you think my song is boring” he pouted and you shook your head.
“That’s not what I meant. But it is very calming. And it’s been a long day. Are you not tired?”
“I am Vulcan”
“That doesn’t answer the question” he didn’t say anything and you sighed “Fine” you pulled your hand back and gave a nod, walking over to the intercom to contact Med Bay again because the doctor had to come here and not your quarters. You probably didn’t’ have the strength (or will) to bring your husband back to his quarters. When you were done, you also contacted the Captain to tell him what was going on and to let him know that maybe Spock wouldn’t come to work tomorrow
“What do you mean by ‘behaving odd’? Is it a Spocksih odd we’re used of him or odd odd?”
“Odd odd. Unless he’s sitting on the tables in rec room just wearing his boxers and playing his lute each day”
“No, you’re right that is odd. When did he start behaving like that?”
“I don’t know. He went mediating when we returned. But maybe his smiles on the planet already had to do with his situation”
“Did you let McCoy know?”
“He’s got off, so I contacted Med Bay”
“Very well. Do you need help?”
“Are you already back?”
“Yeah, we all are by now”
“Oh okay. But no, I called for a doctor he’ll help me to bring Spock back home”
“Perfect” you turned around to your husband
“Oh fuck”
“What? What is he doing now?”
“No idea”
“How do you mean that?”
“Because he’s gone. He’s not here anymore”
“Do you need help searching him?”
“Only if you don’t mind”
“My friend and First Officer is running around the ship drunk and half naked. Of course I can make time to search him”
“Good” you quickly discussed where you would go looking (respectively that you’d ask the computer for his location again) before contacting Med Bay yet another time to let them know that you had lost your husband again. Then you went to the next computer to hear his location. As it seemed he currently wasn’t in a room but was still underway to wherever he was heading. That was if he had a place he wanted to go. As you followed his path, you stopped to ask a computer again and when you heard where Spock was, you sped up even more. He had gone to the Pharmacology lab and in his state you had no idea what he’d do and he could get himself killed if he did something wrong. When you arrived at the lab, two people of sickbay were already there, talking to your husband. “What’s going on?” you asked, taking your husband’s hand.
“Your explanations made me realized that something is indeed wrong with me. I was trying to find something against it” he gestured at two small vials in front of
“Did he take anything?”
“No, luckily not” the nurse said while the doctor ran a scanner over Spock
“Is he okay?”
“No” Spock replied, making you squeeze his hand. To your surprise he pulled you closer until your head was resting against his chest. Suddenly he let out a yelp and when you looked up you saw how the doctor had injected a hypo into Spock’s neck. At the same time as your husband you asked what it was and were told that it something that would help him calm down a bit. The nurse then continued explaining that everything was alright so far and he just seemed drunk. So you should just take him back to your quarters and let them know in case something happened. With a grin you shook your head.
“What did you do huh?” you nudged his arm, making him glance down at you
“I did not take anything”
“On the planet. But you couldn’t know. We all didn’t. Now let’s get you to bed and tomorrow everything will be better” also Kirk now arrived in the lab and was asking what was going on, whereupon he received a briefing from the doctor.
“And he’s fine now?”
“He’s always been fine. But (Y/N) should keep an eye on him, just in case. But I don’t think something will happen. I’d take some blood but I have the impression that in his state he will not allow it”
“What if you wait until the sedative you gave him works?”
“Of course we could but as far as I can see he’s fine. Just not used to being drunk. I only thought we could find out what put him in that state. Maybe we’ll have to take some blood if he gets worse which he shouldn’t”
“Okay, that’s great to hear” you said with a nod and when you saw, how your husband slightly slackened you took hold of his arm
“It’s starting wo work” the nurse commented and you tried to lead him back to your shared quarters which you only could when also Kirk took hold of him and helped you. Together you more or less dragged Spock back to your quarters and after asking if you could manage, the Captain left you.  Spock pulled you to the bed, sat down on its edge and after you were in his lap, he embraced you tightly.
“Careful” you muttered “Don’t forget how strong you are and your thousand lectures about how you could snap all my bones just like that” he didn’t reply but nuzzled the side of your neck. “How about you let me get ready for bed and then we can lie down and cuddle until we fall asleep?” again he did nothing so you let out a sigh “Aren’t you tired?”
“Not very much. However, I wish to hold you longer”
“You can also do that when we’re trying to fall asleep?” now his arms disappeared and you got up, getting out of your clothes, when you heard the bathroom door close. “Please just don’t continue your experiment” you muttered as you put on a top for in the bed. You sat down on the bed, taking out a PADD to read an article before Spock returned but again he stayed in the bathroom. After fifteen minutes you put your device aside and knocked at the door but got no answer, so you opened it. You had to cover your mouth to not burst out laughing. He was cuddling his robes he had discarded earlier against his chest and was fast asleep on the bathroom floor. Of course you knew that you wouldn’t be able to bring him back to bed so you returned to your bedroom, got your blanket and spread it over him. For a while you stood there, looking down at him and considering if you should join him or spend the night in bed before you sighed and grabbed your pillow to lie down beside him as well.

It was one of the first times in your marriage that you woke up before Spock. But knowing he’d probably be awake any time, you waited for him with breakfast. When he appeared in the door frame you had to bite back a chuckle because you had never seen him so disheveled.
“Morning” you greeted, putting your PADD aside
“Morning, (Y/N)” he replied with a nod. “I cannot find a logical explanation why I have woken up in the bathroom”
“Because you fell asleep there. Bam, logic” you got up and walked to the replicator “Water or tea?”
“Then I cannot recall why I would have chosen the bathroom floor as suitable place to spend the night”
“Oh well I can’t answer that either. But I might have an idea”
“That is?” he asked, walking to the bed to put the blanket on it, of course folding it neatly before taking a new uniform from his wardrobe.
“You don’t remember?”
“I am not certain I understand what you are referring to”
“Well” you grinned, getting your own breakfast, “I guess I’d better tell you before Kirk surprises you with made up stories about your half-naked adventures in the rec room. Come to think of it, you might want to make sure he doesn’t find the video”
“Which video?” if he hadn’t been shocked before he definitely was now. The intercom beeped and Spock answered it
“How’re you doing, druggie?”
“I do not understand your reference”
“You don’t remember? Pity, I’d love to see your face. I could tell you everything but I guess that (Y/N) knows a few more details. In fact I’d love to hear the whole story. Anyways, I just called to let you know I pulled a few strings to let you take off this morning, Spock”
“I do not see…”
“And I don’t care. I won’t let you come to the bridge. Oh and Bone’s awaiting you in Med Bay he said” the call ended and Spock looked at you as if he was lost.
“It seems there something you should tell me”
“Yeah” you gestured at his chair “I know Vulcan got nerves of steel, not anatomically, but you might better sit before I start”
