Modern AU headcanon: Jean’s Bear Hat
Tumblr media
It all started when Jean’s mom retired and finally found herself with more time on her hands. After beginning a much needed declutter of her house, she found stacks and stacks of pictures documenting her darling boy’s life and decided to join a local scrapbooking circle.
While working on a page dedicated to Jean’s first snow day, an older woman with kind eyes asked about Jean’s bear hat.
“Oh, the hat? I actually made it for him when he was a baby.” She smiles, looking at the picture and remembering how he loved the hat so much he insisted on wearing it past the winter, into the spring, and only relinquishing it in the summer when it became too hot.
“I wish I had one of those this upcoming week, it’s supposed to be freezing,” the old woman commented while bundling herself in layers preparing to face the cold.
This may have been just a passing comment to some, but to Jean’s mom this sparked another idea. She went to the craft store the next day and bought some new crochet hooks and yarn, filling her free time with even more crafting.
Tumblr media
“I’m so excited for you to open your gift!” She beamed, handing a gift bag overflowing with tissue paper to her son and pulling him in for a big hug.
“Thanks mom, you didn’t have to get me anything.”
“Of course I had to, you’re my favorite child.”
“I’m your only child.” Jean smiled, rustling through the tissue paper until he reaches the gift at the bottom of the bag.
His eyebrows quirk inwards as he feels the knit texture and pulls out his new bear hat.
“Do you like it? I made it for you, just like the one you had when you were a baby!” She says, her eyes lighting up.
“I… uh…” Jean nods his head. “I love it, thanks mom.” He pulls her in for a hug and gives her a kiss on the cheek, knowing that his friends are going to tease him relentlessly for wearing his new hat when they meet up later.
Tumblr media
“Nice hat, Jean-Bear,” Eren snickers as Jean walks over to meet his friends, everyone chuckling at his newest accessory.
“Shut up, Jeager. I have to wear it, my mom just gave it to me.”
“My mom just gave it to me,” Connie says mockingly, joining in on poking fun at his friend.
Sasha pulls out her phone and snaps a picture with the flash going off right in Jean’s face.
“Cut it out guys. I know it’s dumb, but she would be really upset if I didn’t wear it so I have to. Just pretend I’m not wearing it.”
“That’s not as easy as you think it is,” points out Armin, earning him a high five from Eren.
A gust of wind rips through the air, causing everyone to shiver. “See?” Jean points out, “I’m the only one who’s still warm, so suck it.”
They go through the rest of the day, Jean pretending to be annoyed and purely wearing the hat as an obligation. Secretly though, he loved how special it was that his mom took the time to recreate his bear hat.
He also relished in having bragging rights the next week when all of his friends got sick from the weather but he remained perfectly healthy.
Tumblr media
Thank you for reading! This is a little illustration turned headcanon. It was floating around in my mind with the weather being freezing these past few weeks.
Have a drawing suggestion? Leave an ask!

"but babe its tradition!" crossing her arms ryujin looks at you with an annoyed look. grabbing her arm you tug on it softly giving her pleading eyes. "please!! i made this, especially for you, do you remember how long it took me? all those trips to the craft store to buy yarn? the constant sore wrists? sleepless nights?" holding up the item in question you quiver your lower lip as a final straw, ryujin's shoulders slump in defeat as she takes what you're holding up.
"fine...but only for today and you're definitely on santa's naughty list this year! i mean this sweater is criminal?" grumbling the last part to herself she heads to your shared bedroom to change for the day's activities. as you finish cooking some gingerbread-shaped french toast you hear footsteps enter the kitchen, turning around you almost drop the plate in awe.
"...whatever i'll just tell them my girlfriend is color blind and knitted this in the dark surely-OW?!" rubbing her arm ryujin whines trying to escape from your grasp. "why did you pinch me?"
"hmph! you deserve it, just for that no french toast for you." letting go of her you head to the table to take her plate causing her to chase after you with a lost look.
"hmph! you deserve it, just for that no french toast for you." letting go of her you head to the table to take her plate causing her to chase after you with a lost look.
"no no i'm sorry love, my angel, my miss claus. you're the best knitter in the world and i'll wear anything you make me with pride. even if it means i have to change my name and wear sunglasses so no one-OW!!! i'm joking geeze stop with the pinching you're not the grinch!" kissing your cheek ryujin steals her food back and tries to scarf it down before you had any time to react.
eventually you both make it out of the house to begin your errands for the day. ryujin was in charge of buying the wrapping paper and decorations while you went to buy the groceries. you were supposed to meet back at the town square after dropping the things off at home to buy your gifts for your families and each other. finishing everything in light speed you see your girlfriend on her phone waiting on a bench nearby, running over you throw your arms around her neck and kiss her face multiple times.
"guess who~"
smiling she turns around and kisses your lips. “i wonder who?” turning around she smiles brightly at you. “all done with getting our dinner ready?"
"yes ma'am, and you're done looking cute in that sweater?" rolling her eyes she gets up and takes your hand.
"shut up, i got laughed at by a little kid and one lady asked me i needed money. babe i'm sorry but i'm confiscating your needles when we get home. we'll leave the knitting to your mom ok?" pouting you nod dejectedly as she strokes your cheek. "but hey let's buy everyone's gifts who knows maybe we'll find matching sweaters to take a picture together later? how does that sound?" ears perking up at the idea your small nod makes ryujin squeeze your hand in return. "perfect, nutmeg is on me today."
after window shopping in little shops and kiosks all over town, you both managed to buy everyone's gifts yet there was no sign of matching sweaters that fit up to your standards.
"jin they have to be super ugly! that's the whole point of wearing them!!" shaking her head ryujin stays quiet as you continue to rant to her.
"you know what? we'll just order them off esty or something, right now you look like you need something sweet to calm down, i'll be right back ok?" walking toward the food stalls you take a seat nearby and wait for her to return. scanning the area you spot a shop you hadn't entered and decide to browse while you wait, getting closer you see that it was a lingerie shop full of themed underwear sets on sale for the season. looking around you settle on a cute matching set for you and ryujin in hopes of this making up for the ugly sweater you made her.
walking out of the store you fail to realize ryujin watching you leave said store that she may or may not have gone to buy your lingerie before your previous birthdays. seeing you clutch the bag tightly in your hands she chuckles as you stuff it inside one of the gift bags you're holding. pretending as if nothing had happened you see ryujin holding a box of donuts and cheer as she comes closer.
"they're for after dinner missy. now carry this box and i'll handle the gifts ok?"
"yes dear~" kissing your handsome girlfriend on the cheek you lead the way back to your apartment. placing everything down ryujin gets to cooking dinner while you start wrapping everyone's presents. occasionally glancing at you she sees the mystery bag and your embarrassed look as you try to check if she's watching you.
"i-i'm going to take a shower!!" quickly standing up you 'hide' the bag from her sight and book it to your bathroom. having an idea of what you were planning ryujin decides to play it dumb and wait to see what'll happen. putting on the underwear you smile at how the red complimented your skin making you look sexier than ever for your girlfriend, ryujin was going to be in a surprise for sure. covering it up with your black pjs shorts and an oversized hoodie you finish cooking for ryujin while she heads to shower and manage to plate everything as she comes out. chatting about your purchases and the reaction everyone will have after receiving your gifts you feel time slow as you wonder when would be the right time to show her. eyeing her chest multiple times it comes to the point where she grabs your chin and makes you look her in the eye.
"um baby girl my eyes are up here unless you're thinking of something else?" smirking she waits until your flustered expression calms down and you've collected your thoughts. tugging at the end of her sweater you into her eyes challenging her silently.
"jin you know how i wanted to find us something to match for the holidays...well i found something and wanted to see what you thought." tilting her head she nods.
"sure thing let's have a fashion show in the living room." getting up she puts both of your dishes in the sink while you close your blinds and make sure the door is locked (just in case) before standing in the center of the area. sitting on the couch ryujin sits with her legs open as she lays back relaxed. "so where is the sweater?" playing with the string of your shorts you shake your head.
"a-actually jin...it's something different..." slipping your shorts off her eyes widen as you take off the hoodie and reveal what was underneath. sitting upright she scoots closer to get a better look at you. "i-i got us m-matching underwear w-well two pairs this red one and a really cute white patterned one but i felt like you would want to see this one first." hiding your hands behind your back you blush pink at the reveal. "sooo what do you think?" taking a moment to study the way the fabric barely hugged your body she feels herself get wet at the thought of all the things you could do together while wearing or rather not wearing this. moving her hands to touch your stomach trailing them down to cup your ass she pulls you close to bury her head in between your boobs. groaning she gives you a light squeeze and lets out a heavy breath.
"oh you're definitely on santa's naughty list now." mumbling against your chest ryujin pulls back and looks up at your face. "i love it babe, in fact, i love it so much that i think its time you sit on my lap and tell santa what you want for christmas this year or at least tonight." patting her lap she grabs your waist to place you against her. trailing her fingers up your bare thigh lingering near the waistband of your panty she whispers against your ear. "i'm feeling a bit chilly princess why don't we warm each other up in bed?" shivering at the nickname you nod and feel yourself swept into her arms locking lips all the way to bed.

Out in the Middle: Part 13
Tumblr media
Summary: Thanksgiving is approaching and the kids are excited as ever
Yellowstone Waldorf School
November, 2022
Ms. Jackson’s third grade classroom was as busy as ever with students tending to their class project, their fingers sticky with glue and tape residue. Some were busy cutting yarn or small squares of leather or felt while others carefully tied together little sticks and twigs they had found outside before covering their little structures with carefully cut pieces of canvas. Outside it was already snowing, the ground completely frozen and the trees bare of any leaves, but the classroom was as warm and welcoming as ever.
“Ms. Jackson?” Amy asked. “Can you help me?”
“Ok baby, what’d you do?” Ms. Jackson asked.
“I can’t tie a slipknot very well.”
“Here, let me see for a sec honey.”
Amy handed off the ball of twine to Ms. Jackson, Colby’s mother, and her absolute favorite teacher. “Ok baby,” Ms. Jackson said. “Watch my fingers now. Remember when we were doin our handwork this morning?”
Amy nodded. She watched her teacher’s nimble fingers forming and tying the knot slowly before she had Amy try it herself. It might not have been perfect, but Amy managed to get the idea pretty quickly.
“Ok, put’em together,” Tate told her. “I’ll hold it.”
Amy put the small bundle of sticks together, putting the slipknot around it before pulling it tight. “What are we gonna do when we build the longhouse?” she asked him.
“We could do what we did when we did our Veterans’ Day projects,” Tate told her.
“But what if they don’t all fit?” Amy asked.
“I dunno,” Tate shrugged. “We’ll find something.”
Amy, Tate and the other two students they were working with, began to put the canvas over the little teepee they had built before putting a little table in place. “This is gonna look so cool once it’s done,” Tate grinned.
“I wish we could show our moms and dads for tomorrow,” Dante Gonzales remarked.
“It’s ok,” Tate said. “Living Museum is on Monday in the gym so we’ll get to show them anyways.”
They all worked together as best they could, placing the little Pilgrim and Indian figures they had made wherever they chose. If it was anything they loved about being in school, it was when their Living Museum block took place, putting dioramas and displays together with materials that were found both on the school grounds and in the local craft stores.
When the sound of an old hand-bell ringing in the hallways signaled the end of the day, that was everyone’s cue to clean up. “Alright my friends,” Ms. Jackson announced. “Everybody clean up and put your chairs on your desks. If ya’ll took materials from the art shelves, please return them where they were found.”
The diorama pieces were all put in the art corner on small tables where none of the pieces would be damaged. Everyone helped clean up the floors, sweeping, brushing off their desks and wiping them down with the microfiber cloths Ms. Jackson kept in the supply closets. The wood of the chairs clunked against the wood of the desks as students put them up and went to the cubby rack for their coats and backpacks, a few of them slipping into warm winter boots, hats and mittens.
“Alright my friends,” Ms. Jackson announced. “Bus line, if ya’ll have the yellow tags on your backpacks you’re gonna follow me to the gym. Car-line is gonna go and follow the others out the front.”
Tate, Amy, Dante and four other students with yellow tags hooked to their backpacks, followed their teacher to the gymnasium where other students from the lower school and the upper school began to file in. Hannah’s second grade class came in with Evie and Joey close behind her while Tatum and Tanner each came in with Jake and the first graders. Kaya and Rosey were the last to come in with their pre-k class, sticking out from many of the others with their pink and purple coats, warm ugg boots and Disney princess backpacks.
The Dutton and Abbott kids all scrambled towards each other and took a seat against the walls, the noisy and excited chatter echoing in the gym. Everything seemed to echo in the school that had once been the old stone Presbyterian church, the footsteps in the halls, the chatter and even the crickets that sometimes found their way into the halls.
Attendance was promptly taken by the teachers for each group. The high schoolers who still took the bus went out first seeing as many of them had opted to be bus monitors. After what felt like forever, the buses of the kids were called and they could go home.
******************
“Oh c’mon where’s the friggin bus, I’m freezin my ass off,” Rhett complained, trying to keep the blood flow in his body going.
“Takes’em forever to get up the friggin hill,” Kayce remarked.
“If they say they wanna come outside and play after, we can just watch from the windows,” Rip suggested.
“I’ll fuckin do it I don’t care,” Teeter chuckled as Colby put his arm around her. “Sick o’ freezin ma bag ass off anyways.”
Much to their relief, the bus finally pulled up and let the kids off. Colby’s niece and two nephews jumped off the last step, running behind the Abbott and Dutton kids who were all screeching about how cold it was.
“Alright monkeys!” Rhett called to them. “Everybody in the truck, we’re goin in the house.”
Into the vehicles they all went, loading up their backpacks and kicking the snow off their shoes before the doors were shut. “Who had a good day at school?” Rhett asked as they turned around and went up the long stretch of driveway to the house.
“Me!!!”
“Me!!!”
“I did! I did!”
“What’d ya’ll do?”
“We’re doing our living museum,” Amy answered.
“What’s that?”
“We build dioramas and we put them up in the gym to make a museum.”
Rhett patiently listened to their chatter as the others followed him up the driveway, the big house beginning to come into view. The snow was beginning to fall even harder, the snowflakes big, fat and wet as they fell and covered the ground.
Rip was the last to pull up behind them and park it with the others. As soon as their feet hit the ground, the kids ran for the porch, opening and shutting the door behind them. Tatum blew a raspberry at Tanner before slamming the door behind him, attempting to lock his twin out.
“Hey!! Tatum Royal! Let your brother in right now,” Rhett commanded.
“Sorry daddy.”
Everyone shuffled in, tired from the day and the cold. The fire crackled away in the fireplace as the kids stamped their shoes off and hung up their backpacks. “Daddy can we watch a movie?” Hannah asked.
“Go right ahead, it’s the weekend so ya’ll get your movie time.”
Hannah let out a wild holler as she followed the others down to the basement to search the video tape rack for a movie. Rhett flopped into the couch and let out an obscene groan before he felt you sliding your way on top of him.
“Hey cowboy,” you purred.
“O darlin can it wait?” he groaned. “I’m fuckin freezin.”
“Want me to make you something?”
“Got any cider?”
“I’ll make you a hot one in a minute,” you said, placing a soft kiss on his freezing cheek. His arms snaked around you, holding you as close as he possibly could, breathing in your scent as his face reddened from the heat that rose into his cheeks.
“You and the girls takin care of business tomorrow?” he mumbled.
“As soon as we get that damn turkey,” you answered.
Rhett had almost completely forgotten about the turkey hunt he had promised to go on with the guys. “How many are we gonna need?”
“Well counting on how many people are in this house I’d say about three.”
“We’ll get what we can,” Rhett told you. “For now I wanna rest.”
You weren’t going to deny him that. The two of you lay there on the couch with the fire going, the kids out of sight and everyone else going about their business. You pulled the Indian blanket from where it had been hanging over the back of the couch and threw it over you and Rhett, his quiet snores filling your ears before you too soon drifted off into sleep.

The Skateboarder
Female reader x Female orc (Morn)
Citrus rating: Lemon
Content: brief alcohol, stupid memes
Words: 9k
Morn reached between the legs of some intertwined partygoers, retrieved a beer from the strategically placed cooler, then opened it on the strike plate of the living room door. Some of it foamed out and fell on the carpet with the bottle cap but she didn't seem to care. The owners of the sorority house didn't care either.
"...so yeah, she said I stank and got up and left." Morn finished her tale of an attempted one-night stand.
"She didn't even touch you yet?" You asked, leaning in close so she could hear you over the thumping music. As was usual for parties like these, you and Morn had carved out a corner where you could be ignored by everyone else and gossip.
"Well, yeah, but not below the belt. That's what pissed me off. She was all over me all night and as soon as I say I want her to go down on me, she insults me and leaves."
"I mean..." you grinned, unable to resist, "did you stink down there, though?"
Morn punched your shoulder and chuckled.
"Fuck off, it's not like roses and daffodils are the norm. You know, it's like I always say..." It was Morn's turn to grin mischievously.
"Don't fucking say it. I swear to God, Morn. I'm going to laugh really hard and everyone's going to look at me weird. " You pleaded. You knew what would come next; Morn's favorite turn of phrase that she managed to use more often than one would think.
"—like I always say, good pussy smells like the heat coming out of the PS4."
You were true to your word. As you caught your breath between peals of laughter, a few partygoers did in fact stare at you. Despite your prior protests, the stares didn't bother you that much. Here in Morn's gossip corner, all that mattered was whiling the time away until the other half of your group was ready to leave. Dera's whereabouts were unknown but Lash was visible in the corner of the room.
"Looks like Lash's plan is all coming together." You noted. Morn turned to look as well; she was aggressively making out with an Elf boy. He licked her tusks. You grimaced.
"Goddamn. When Lash wants something she gets it."
"She mentioned that guy... what, like, yesterday?" You asked. "From staring at him across the classroom to heavy petting in less than twenty-four hours. That's a new record."
"Makes me feel like I'm not even the same species," Morn complained, finally turning away from Lash's public display of affection. "I know Orc boldness is a stereotype but it's not one I'd mind living up to."
"That's not Orc boldness, that's Lash boldness," you chortled. "Don't be down on yourself for not having it. Besides, she's not looking for a one-night deal; if that Elf doesn't call her back tomorrow she's gonna have her week ruined."
"I guess that's true..." Morn sighed.
"Morn." You firmly squeezed her shoulder and stared at her. "I love Lash to death, but you've never called me at three in the morning crying over the end of a week-and-a-half-long relationship. It's okay to not be dating a new person all the time."
"Yeah, I know." She finished her beer and smiled a bit.
"Besides, if you were hunting down an object of desire every time we were at a party, I'd have no one to chill with. Morn's Gossip Corner is the only thing getting me out of the dorm on Friday nights."
"I'm glad to be of service." She dramatically saluted. "You're right, though. I guess it's just the party atmosphere that makes me forget sleeping around and dating have drawbacks."
"Definitely the party vibe getting to you," you affirmed. "Speaking of sleeping around, though... where's Dera?"
"If I had to guess, upstairs. Text her." Morn suggested.
You pulled out your phone and opened the group chat, aptly titled "THA HOOLIGANZ 👩‍💻👩‍✈️👩‍⚕️🕵️‍♀️" and sent a message:
You: dera where tf are u, its almost been an hour
Almost immediately the indicator that Dera was typing popped up, followed by her reply:
Dera: upstairs. firbolg football player. huge 🍆
"Oh, god." You gagged. Morn pulled out her phone in response to see the cause, then had a similar reaction. She started tapping away at her phone's keyboard.
Morn: damn, dera, chill. we just wanted to make sure you were ok.
The typing indicator preceded yet another reply from Dera.
Dera: lol ok mom
"She's got an attitude tonight, sheesh." Morn shook her head and put her phone away.
"I think tonight an early exit might be a good idea. Dera and Lash seem pretty occupied," you said. You couldn't find Lash or her Elven paramour in the room anymore.
"I think you're right. Text the group and tell 'em we're leaving."
You nodded and did so, receiving 👍 responses from both Dera and Lash after a short pause.
"Let's go." You got up from your place on the sunken-in couch and helped Morn up. The two of you navigated through the fire code-violating sorority house to the front door, where you met the cool night air and the odor of cigarettes. Morn's skateboard was next to yours, propped against the thick trunk of a long-dead tree.
"I don't wanna go back to the dorms yet. It's not that late," Morn said, checking her watch.
"Pizza?" You suggested.
"Pizza."
Before long you were both skating into the night. The entire university town was built into the side of a mountain with the greek life houses at the top, making it a breeze to fashionably exit parties like this one. There were a few drunken revelers to dodge on the way down, but once you cleared the sororities and fraternities it was smooth skating. The incandescent streetlights flew past as century-old houses gave way to newer corner stores and parks. Before long, you and Morn were skating through the thick of the city on a course set for Main Street.
The pleasant sound of plastic wheels on stamped concrete was soon married with the aroma of cheap, indulgent pizza. You wouldn't have needed any senses other than smell to know you arrived at your destination: "Get Stuffed," the type of place where a slice was a dollar and you could write on the walls. As was usual for the time when Friday became Saturday, it was packed with the university crowd; too packed to even sit inside.
You and Morn shimmied to the counter and ordered your usuals. Fortunately, Get Stuffed had nailed speedy service and it was only a few short moments before you were on your way out with greasy pizza on flimsy paper plates. You set your skateboards on the curb and sat on them, side-by-side.
"Thanks for fleeing with me," Morn said, folding her slice of pizza and tucking her loose black curls behind her ear.
"Anytime, Morn." You mimicked her pizza fold before noticing something about the beanie she wore. It was oddly familiar, so you delayed your first bite. "Hey, where's that beanie from?" Morn looked at you, chewing.
"This thing?" She tugged at the chunky burgundy yarn. "You should know."
"I should know?" You mused, finally chewing on your first bite of pizza. It was just as greasy and gratifying as you expected it to be. Then, as realization dawned on you, it almost fell out of your mouth. "You kept that thing for this long?!"
"Of course. It's a good beanie. It's lasted... what, since second grade?" She smirked. "It's one of the best birthday gifts I've gotten. Thanks, by the way."
"Thank you for holding onto it," you countered. "The memories... wow."
"That was the birthday party where we had a sleepover afterward. We played tag, and—"
"Oh, no," you moaned, remembering.
"...you ran so hard that you threw up." Morn giggled. Your cheeks still burned at the vivid memory. You almost forgot crocheting Morn's beanie, but you never forget throwing up at someone's birthday party.
"It's crazy we've been friends for so long." You gracefully changed the subject and started working on your pizza slice in earnest.
"It's not that crazy. You've always been there for me."
"I mean... I try..." you were hiding your blush, feeling warm as Morn readied to shower you with compliments.
"Like the time Chrissie Becker rejected my invitation to prom. You started crying when I started crying, and I hadn't even told you what happened yet." Morn giggled warmly. "Or when our families went camping together and you let me share your sleeping bag when I forgot mine."
"I couldn't just let you sleep on the ground!" you sheepishly defended yourself against the flattery.
"Even though you knew I kicked in my sleep." Morn looked up from her plate and smiled at you, her tusks glinting under the streetlights.
"You're more important to me than my shins," you said quietly.
"Hah!" Morn laughed heartily, bumping her skateboard into yours and wrapping an arm around you. "You're more important to me than my shins."
In Morn's embrace there on the sidewalk, you melted. She had such a way of effortlessly making you feel safe and loved. She had been there for you as well several times and was damn good at it. You enjoyed the feeling so much that you just sat there quietly until she got a little worried.
"Hey, did I tease you too much?" Her wry grin had been replaced with a slight frown and sympathetic brow.
"No, no..." you reassured her, savoring the dreamy feeling. "It's all good. I'm glad you're here with me. I'm glad we're... friends," you stumbled a bit over the last word.
"Me too," she gave your shoulder a little squeeze.
You both finished your pizza in silence, enjoying each others' side and the ambiance of the city street. After a moment you both tossed the greasy plates into a trash can and skateboarded back to the dorms. The courtyard was where your paths diverged, and after bidding one another goodnight and farewell, you parted. You shared your bed that night with a familiar feeling. Embarrassment, shame, and maybe even guilt. All for the way your heart skipped a beat when she put an arm around you, or the unstoppable smile when she recounted her memories of you. You weren't super familiar with love, at least not in the way Lash and Dera were, but the way Morn made you feel in recent months was more than simple friendship. You agonized over the thought that she wouldn't return those feelings. It was a miracle you managed to sleep at all.
Saturday morning arrived, and with it, a text. You groggily pulled your phone into bed with you to read it after rubbing the sleep from your eyes. It was from THA HOOLIGANZ.
Dera: hey sorry about my sass last nite. i figured y'all left early and that's cool, i was kinda doing my own thing anyway
Lash: LOL sameeee. anyway, does anyone want to meet up for coffee or something? i’d rather be hungover around you guys than my parents 😭
You considered the offer; it would be nice to actually see Lash and Dera after missing them last night. Your moment on the curb with Morn still bothered you, and a distraction from that would be nice.
You: im down, where u wanna go
Dera: u know that cute little cafe on that corner? main street i think?? the one thats literally 100% pink???
Morn: you're thinking of tokidoki cafe! i'm down to go, that’s my spot!
You sighed. This outing wouldn't be very good for distracting you from Morn if Morn was seated across from you.
Dera: thats the one. lets gooooooo
Lash: yes. literally right now. start running
Morn: thanks, but I think I'll skate there. see y'all in a bit
You: same
The morning air was crisp and cool in the way spring mornings always were. It was a shame Lash and Dera were too busy downing aspirin and chugging water to truly enjoy it. Your skateboard served you well as a means of transport on mornings like this; you and your friends were the rare few students who didn't usually sleep in on Saturdays, so you enjoyed the empty sidewalks. The soft plastic wheels gripped the concrete well enough to accommodate any street corners.
The cafe was 100% pink, as promised. The sweet, pillowy smell of crepes mingled with the robust aroma of coffee and met you as you hopped off your skateboard. The tiny size of the place made it easy to tell you were the first to arrive. You ordered the latte-crepe combo that took up the most space on the menu and sat while you waited. You were idly scrolling through your phone when you heard the rhythmic thumping of a skateboard wheels on slabs of sidewalk.
She looked painfully good as she stepped through the cafe's front door. The morning sun made her long black hair golden around the edges and she still wore that damn beanie. Her tusks poked out from her smiling lips when her eyes met yours. Illuminated by sunbeams, her well-toned arm showed every muscle and vein as she gripped her skateboard by the trucks to carry it in.
"Good morning!" she beamed at you. The employee behind the counter smiled at her knowingly.
"The usual, Morn?" he asked.
"Yep!" She quickly answered before sitting across from you, the pins on her denim jacket jingling. "You got here quickly."
"Yeah..." you answered weakly, your conversational skills still recovering from the way Morn held you last night.
"You weren't drinking last night, were you? You alright?" Of course, Morn immediately picked up that something was the matter. It would be stranger if she didn't.
"I'm fine. Where are Lash and Dera?" You deflected. As if on cue, your phone buzzed. THA HOOLIGANZ chimed in.
Lash: lol srry, throwing up. cant make it
Dera: yeah same.
"Unbelievable. Those girls can't seem to show up anywhere lately." Morn had a slightly disapproving tone. She tapped away on her phone.
Morn: this is going on your attendance sheet
Lash: see u in detention, dera
Dera: enjoy your crepes you two!
You chuckled at the exchange.
"That's more like it. I like when you smile." Morn chimed in. "Do more of that."
The waiter saved you from needing to respond by stopping at your table with your orders. A steaming, folded crepe landed before you covered in a sauce just as pink as the rest of the cafe. A warm latte arrived with it and you wrapped your hands around the warm mug. It soothed you a little.
"Morn..." you began, not quite sure what you were going to say. Was this it? Were you going to lay your feelings on the table right here, right now?
"What is it? You can tell me anything." Morn leaned in over the table. "I can tell something's been bothering you lately."
You opened your mouth to speak, but nothing came out. You didn't even know how to begin; should you preface it with an apology? Some sort of explanation or disclaimer?
"I don't even know if I can tell you. Like, if I can get the words out," you said before sipping your latte. You savored the taste, hoping the espresso would ground you somehow. At the very least you wouldn't be expected to talk with your mouth full.
"There's no rush. I just... I want to help. I've known you long enough that I'm sure there's something I can do." Morn hadn't even touched her crepe yet.
"Let's just, um, eat." You answered.
"Good idea. I'm sure you'll feel like yourself once you've eaten and the coffee starts kicking in." Morn nodded to herself, cutting open her fruit-filled crepe. You similarly started to work on yours. The two of you ate in silence and, for a moment, you did feel better. Fully focusing on the aromas, flavors, and textures of your breakfast stilled your trembling hands. The slightest bit of confidence grew within you halfway through the meal.
"I... um..." the words slowly formed in your mouth. Morn paused, setting down her fork and knife and looking at you intently. "I fell in love. With someone I don't think I should be in love with."
Morn listened but said nothing. She was thinking.
"How do you know it's love?"
"What?" you asked.
"How do you know it's not just a crush? Or, you know, lust?" Morn inquired. You considered the question carefully. Memories of platonic cuddles, impromptu sleepovers, and late-night conversations with Morn came to mind.
"It's love because it's lasted way longer than any crush. I trust this person, and they trust me. I'm not like Lash, pining for the new guy from across the classroom; I know this person really well."
"I see." She paused again. "Why would it be bad to love them? Wouldn't a good history make a romantic relationship easier?"
"Only if they felt the same way..." you sighed and nestled your head in your elbows.
"Ah, right..." Morn looked sheepish. "Well, personally—and I do mean personally, so it might not apply to them—if I had a long-time friend that I had feelings for, I would just tell them."
"Really?" Your eyes widened.
"I mean, yeah. If I and this person had such a long history of trust, then I would trust them to still be friends with me afterward if they didn't feel the same way. I'm sure it would be awkward for a while, but I really don't think it would be, you know... destructive or anything."
More memories came to you. More times where you felt completely open and vulnerable with Morn, and when she did with you. Times when you comforted each other and shared secrets under blanket forts and playground swings and gymnasium bleachers. Words formed inside your mouth, desperate to make themselves known to the world. Perhaps now would become another one of these memories. You'd look back on it in the future and remember the smell of pink crepes in the pink cafe.
"Morn... I have these feelings for you. I'm talking about you."
You fought the urge to cover your mouth, and you didn't stutter or stammer in the slightest. Though working up the courage was difficult, letting the words go was one of the easiest things you had ever done. Morn didn't react much; an eyebrow rose slowly as she finished chewing. The silence was agonizing.
"I'm happy you trust me enough to share that with me," Morn said calmly. You wanted to shout that's all?! but held your tongue. She took a sip of her latte, clearly in no rush to say more.
"So..." you began, well and truly lost. All your effort had gone into mustering courage and now you had nothing left. Even your anxiety and worry had gone, and you were strangely content, though eager, to hear Morn speak.
"So..." Morn parroted, "does that mean you want to... you know, date me? Like, romantic dates, not besties dates. Kissing dates."
Again, your impulses screamed duh!
"Um, yeah..." you said sheepishly, rubbing the back of your neck. "I'd like that, but... only if you'd like that too."
She sipped her latte again, still calm.
"You know, over the years, I've imagined what we would be like if we were romantic with each other. Like, girlfriend-girlfriends. How could I not? We've known each other for so long."
You nodded, bidding her speak more.
"I never knew you wanted that. I can't imagine how you felt; I could tell something was wrong but I couldn't figure out what." Morn set the mug and her cutlery down, intentionally and warmly looking you in the eye. "I think...
You didn't even breathe.
"I think we should give it a shot." Morn smiled widely. "Does that sound good to you?"
"Yes, yes it does," you finally drew breath. If Morn was feeling a similar tumult of emotions that you were, she was hiding it considerably well. Morn wiped her lips and tusks with a napkin and got up from the table.
"Well, I've got to visit mom and pops tonight, but we've still got Sunday tomorrow. How about we have our first real date then?"
"Uh, sure!" You sat there, dumbfounded. Was it really going to be this easy?
"Cool. I'll let you pick where we go, just like most of our... non-date hangouts," she said, turning to the cashier. She gestured widely to the table. "Put it all on my tab."
"You have a crepe tab?"
Morn chuckled. Making her way to the door, the sunlight caught her hair and skin deliciously.
"I'm a regular. Anyway," she grabbed her skateboard, "see you tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow." You answered. She gave you one last toothy grin and stepped out before gliding out of sight, disappearing past the edge of the window. You rested your chin in your hands and sighed like a lovestruck teenager in a coming-of-age movie. Before long, your window-gazing session was interrupted by an employee.
"All done, ma'am?" he asked politely.
"Uh, yes. Sorry, I was spacing out."
"No, it's all good. Thanks for coming by, and if you don't mind me saying..." he looked somewhat pensive.
"What?"
"Don't tell Morn I said this since she's proven that she could snap me in half like a twig, but... speaking as the crepe guy she visits several times a week, I think she's a good match for you."
"But you've never met me before. Maybe once or twice, but—"
"She's told me all about you. All good things, don't worry. It's less about you and more about how Morn talks about you. She gushes when she mentions you, seriously." He paused awkwardly then started to clean up the table. "I've said too much."
"No, thank you," you said. "It's good to know."
"Glad I could help. Anyway... um, thanks for coming in." He waved at you as you got up and left. You nodded and made your exit.
Back at your dorm, you couldn't decide if you wanted to pace or lay in bed and kick your legs. You had so much energy inside you, trapped. It was equally nervous and thrilling. You wondered how Morn kept herself so well composed; something in the back of your mind nagged at you, wondering if it was because she didn't really feel that strongly for you. Enough, you thought to yourself. Morn was your best friend for almost as long as you could remember. She wouldn't toy with you like that. Hell, she explained her entire thought process on the topic before you even confessed to her.
You decided to pace to distract yourself. Those thoughts weren't helpful. Right now you had to choose a place for your first officially non-platonic date. It was never this hard to pick a place to hang out with Morn before...
Then, an idea. It sprung into your mind out of nowhere, and it just felt right. You made sure that the place was open on Sunday, checked the ticket prices... it was perfect. You readied your phone to text Morn the details... but Lash had already sent you a private message. You opened the notification.
Lash: yo how did crepes go?? sorry i no-showed
Your brow furrowed a bit. Lash's random interest was a bit strange, even more so since she was hungover. A dehydrated, vomiting Lash was bedridden for a good half-day in your experience.
You: the cafe was cool! the crepes were good
Unsure if you should be forthcoming about your new development with Morn, you figured they could find out tomorrow once your first "real date" was underway. A change like that would likely be a big deal in your friend group, so a text message wouldn't do the announcement justice anyway.
Lash: how's Morn?
You: shes fine? did something happen??
Lash: no lol, just wondering lol
Two "lol" in one text? You wanted to indulge your suspicions and investigate further, but you decided to leave it at that. You had a date to arrange.
You: still at your parents' place?
Morn: yeah, I'll be back in town tomorrow though
You: k, cool. does meeting at the aviary at 2pm work?
Morn: yeah definitely! what made you pick the aviary?
You: idk if you remember, it was so long ago, but it was the first school field trip we went on as friends
There was a pause as Morn's typing bubble hovered on your screen.
Morn: 😭OMG YOURE SO CUTE IM GONNA CRY😭
Morn: i cant wait to see you tomorrow!!!
You: me too 💕
Your phone landed on your bed with a thump and that nervous energy returned with a vengeance. More pacing, more leg-kicking, even some giggles. This situation felt both extremely real and like a scene from a movie; you never imagined this sort of thing happened in real life, especially in yours. Against all previous expectations, things were going fine. It was thrilling, scary, and made your heart race, but it was going fine. The homework you had to do took a back seat to your excited daydreaming and scheming about tomorrow. You thought about how you would greet her, how you would hug, if and how you would go for a kiss, walking while holding her hand... predictably, sleeping that night was incredibly difficult.
In the morning, you finally executed the plans you fantasized about prior. You decided to err on the side of being overdressed, picking an outfit that wasn't formal but still a little more special than what you would usually wear. You showered, brushed your teeth, swished some mouthwash, and even flossed! Breath mints, a small assortment of Morn's favorite snacks, and an extra water bottle found their way into your bag. If you were going to overthink, then you would take advantage and be overprepared as well. Squeaky clean, dressed to impress, and with a heftier bag than usual, you skateboarded down to the aviary intent on arriving ten minutes early.
The journey was uneventful save for your steadily increasing heart rate. By the time you were waiting for her by the entrance gate, you were fully flustered. You stood still with a kind smile on your face, but anything more complex would have been asking too much of you. The mental rehearsal in your mind's eye ran over and over again: smile, say hi, hug. Smile, say hi, hug. These were all things you had done with Morn before, but with platonic intent instead of this newfound "why not?" intimacy. With how calm and composed Morn had appeared throughout this whole process, you felt as if you were at a disadvantage somehow. You worried in a juvenile sort of way that she was too cool for you.
The way she pulled up to the aviary in her car didn't help that worry at all. Her ride, an old, angular, black thing that roared like a beast, was her pride and joy. She had practically built the thing herself with the number of parts she swapped out of it. It was fully manual and she had the skills to maneuver it gracefully into the parking space. Out from it stepped your actual, honest-to-god, bonafide date.
She smiled at you and your brain melted. You held up a hand in a sort of mellow wave, offering a faint grin. By the time she closed the distance, your simple three-step plan was gone with the wind. Luckily she also decided that greeting with a hug was the correct choice and you were in her embrace quickly. You paused before realizing you should probably return the gesture and wrap your arms around her as well.
"It's so good to see you! You look great," she said, pulling away and looking you over.
"You too..." you breathed, taking your own chance to get a proper look. Her outfit was just as sleek and dark as her car: a pair of black jeans with accompanying boots, a matching leather jacket, and of course, that classic burgundy beanie to top it off.
"Shall we?" She extended a green, competent hand to you. She wasn't wearing her driving gloves today, which was good for your composure; otherwise, you would have well and truly swooned. You accepted her grasp and she gave your hand a firm squeeze before strolling with you to the ticket booth. Thanks to your student IDs, you got in with discounted admission.
The aviary itself was fairly large, and on this particular Sunday, you and Morn practically had the place to yourselves. Other than the idle chatter of a few other scattered visitors, there was only the sound of wind in the leaves and bird calls. The two of you meandered between the exhibits, chatting but not about much in particular. Instead, you were simply content to enjoy each other's company and look at the birds. The birds liked looking at you, too; at one point a pair of free-roaming peacocks followed you and Morn around the aviary.
"Looks like it's a double date," Morn quipped, gesturing to the two plumy birds. They were both mostly brown and lacking the massive, fan-shaped tails.
"They're a pair of girls too. Male peacocks are the ones with the crazy feathers," you noted.
"It's almost like having Lash and Dera tagging along." Morn chuckled. "In fact, if they keep failing to show up these birds would make good replacements."
You looked at the two peacocks, who had started preening each other's feathers.
"Do you think they're besties or girlfriends?" You playfully asked. "That's some pretty intense preening."
"Maybe they're both, like us." Morn wrapped an arm around you and offered you her shoulder. You melted again. "If you had feathers, I'd be preening you right now."
"If I knew how to return that compliment, I would." You said, deliciously rattled by her closeness and warmth.
"I have an idea... if you're cool with it." Morn kept holding you close, turning to make eye contact with you. You faced her and realized how close you were. Trapped in her gaze, you couldn't speak. You gave a faint nod.
The first thing you felt was her tusks on your cheeks. They met the corners of your mouth, pressing gently just before her lips met yours. In reality, the kiss was a quick peck. In your mind, time froze. You could no longer hear the birds calling or wind blowing, only the sound of your heart beating like a drum and a feeling like fire in your chest. Morn pulled away from the kiss with a sheepish smile.
"Sorry if my tusks poked you. I'm still getting the hang of that."
"Hey, practice makes perfect, right?" you let slip with a suaveness that surprised even you. Morn's eyes widened in surprise before she let out a hearty laugh.
"That's the spirit!" She cheered, squeezing you hard. "I'm gonna hold you to it, so be aware: I'm gonna kiss you a bunch more before we're out of here."
"That's fine by me." You couldn't do anything else but giggle. Morn gave you another peck immediately after, angling her head a bit so her tusks didn't have such a lead on her lips. Your first kiss with Morn was perfect as far as you were concerned, but this second one was a bit more graceful.
"Better?" she asked.
"Better."
Your stroll through the aviary continued in this fashion: chatting about this and that, generally gushing about each other and punctuated by more quick kisses. It was strange to have a first date with someone that you knew so well, but you weren't complaining in the slightest. Each kiss felt natural and fun, not nerve-wracking and awkward as in the dates of your past. Before all this, you scoffed at yourself for wishing that there was a switch you could toggle to go from best friends to girlfriends, but so far it seemed to work precisely like that.
To the sound of your giggling, the sun was poised to set soon. The aviary closed early because it was Sunday, and you found yourself with Morn leaning against the gleaming hood of her car. You saw your reflection in it, the two of you framed by the orange sky. She came to your side, attaching to you like a magnet.
"It's probably time we headed home, huh?" she suggested.
"Yeah, probably," you replied reluctantly. "I almost don't want it to end."
"It doesn't have to." Morn smiled. "Did you really think I'd kiss you goodnight and leave you on the curb?"
You giggled. That would certainly be the plan for a first date with a stranger, but this was Morn.
"You could come by and hang out with me in my dorm for a bit?" she asked.
"I'd love to." You answered. Her dorm building and yours were right next to each other, after all. She stood up from the hood of her car and opened the passenger side door, offering the seat to you. Not long after stowing your skateboard in the trunk, you were cruising through the city streets bound for the university. Morn's focus made the ride a smooth one, her hands expertly gripping the steering wheel and gear shifter. She wore a focused but pleased expression as she deftly maneuvered the growling vehicle.
"Oh!" Her concentration broke. "We should get food! We haven't eaten at all."
Tires squealed as she veered right, making a turn she wasn't expecting to make. You gripped your armrest and giggled. The engine roared and, within moments, delivered you to a drive-through whose location Morn seemed to know by heart. She was so familiar with it that she blew past the lit-up menu and instead went directly to order.
"Don't worry, I'll get you something you'll like." She reassured you before making it out of the drive-through, takeout bag in hand, in record time. The bag landed in your lap and delicious smells wafted from it. You were tempted to peek inside and sample its contents, but even while entranced with Morn's driving skills you knew eating in her car was a no-no. Untoasted Pop-Tarts during a late-night study session on her bed were okay but her car was like a temple. You folded the top of the bag to make it easier to resist the temptation.
After she had parked and gotten out of the car, you followed her with takeout bag in one hand and skateboard in the other. This late on a Sunday night, the sky was a deep navy. Stark white light from the lamp posts illuminated the web of pathways that connected the dorms, parking lots, student union, and myriad other places you'd typically skateboard solo to.
A few beeping locks later, you made it to Morn's dorm room. Like yours, it was spartan and tiny, but it belonged to her and her alone. You set the bag down on the solitary table and determined to chow down, but Morn caught your attention. She sat on the twin-sized bed that you had shared with her many times before; platonically, of course. She had an expression that you couldn't quite decipher.
"You okay?" You asked, not sure where to begin.
"I'm great, actually," she said, brushing her hair out of the way so she could look at you. "Sorry if I overdid it with the kisses earlier—"
"You didn't," you interjected.
"I just... It felt great to kiss you. I don't know if it's just my nerves, or the newness of it all, or something else, but... I'm kicking myself for not making the first move on you sooner." She looked away, blushing a forest green on her cheeks. You sat next to her on the bed before she could say anything more.
"Hey, don't feel bad just because I was moping for a bit. The fact I was so worried is proof that you can't really know how someone feels about you until you ask. Even if you were friends since forever ago." You reversed the usual arrangement by wrapping your arm around her. She chuckled softly.
"I can't believe I was stressing myself out over random sorority chicks at parties rejecting me. Being with you just feels so much better than the dating apps and the parties and shit like that," Morn sighed. "I know it's technically only our first date but I really think we're something special."
"We are special," you held her tighter, "we went on our first date after... what, a decade and a half of knowing each other? That kind of history sure beats cheesy Tinder pick-up lines."
"Sure does," Morn punctuated her sentence with a kiss. Instead of giving you a quick peck, she pressed her lips into yours even harder. Within the privacy of her dorm room, your heart fluttered at the notion of Morn being able to do whatever she wanted to you. You felt the beginnings of her tongue at your lips, then she pulled away and took a deep breath. Her face was inches from yours as you caught your breath.
"I really like kissing you," Morn uttered. "Now that we're alone... are you okay if I really kiss you?"
"Really kiss me?" you teased. She got even closer.
"Please?" She played along with her best begging tone.
"Go ham." She kissed you again, giggling at your choice of words with her lips pressed against yours once more. She immediately cradled your head in her strong hands, gently placing you into a reclining position. There wasn't much room, but she managed to fit alongside you in the twin-sized bed all without breaking the kiss. You opened your eyes after pulling away to breathe, and all you could see were her dandelion-colored irises.
"I'm gonna go again," She said, smiling. "I just had to get a good look at you first."
"You can do whatever you want, Morn." You grabbed her arm and placed her hand on you. "Just don't keep me waiting."
Morn kissed you hard for the third time, the hand you held now caressing your body ravenously. As her tongue gently played at your lips, her hand found its way to your chest and played with your breasts. She hardly gave you time to gasp, coming back to your mouth with fervor. Her tongue met yours in earnest now, both of you closing the space on the bed between you. Her body flush with yours, you could feel every muscle as she held you close.
You felt one of her legs settle in between your thighs, and you whined into her mouth as she teasingly rubbed you against it. Even fully clothed the sensation was electric, no doubt due to the person giving it to you. Many nights alone had involved fantasies just like this. Now they were coming true.
Desperately, you began grinding yourself against her leg. You chased the sensation as far as you could, moaning into Morn's kiss. Just as you felt yourself approaching the edge, she removed herself from you. Her leg pulled away and the kiss stopped. You opened your eyes, bewildered. Morn had gotten off the bed and kneeled just next to it, her eyes level with your aching need. She grabbed the waistband of your bottoms before looking you in the eyes again.
"You said you didn't want me to keep you waiting," she grinned, tusks glistening. "This okay?"
"It's more than okay... stop teasing me!" You whined. She nodded, pulling your bottoms off entirely before hovering in between your legs. You could feel her breathe on you through your underwear. God, she was so close; you twitched with each puff of warm breath. Her tusks brushed against the inside of your thighs. With a tentative finger she eased your underwear out of the way, gently planting kisses all around your bare mound. She held your legs in place as they twitched and reacted to her electric touch. She deliberately avoided your tender nub with her warm lips. She was playing with you.
"Morn, please," you begged. She paused to look up at you and give a toothy grin.
"You're so cute when you're frustrated," she teased, quickly going back for more. She felt unimaginably warm against your already hot entrance. It wasn't unlike all those other times you melted at Morn's touch, only now it was so intense you couldn't help but let out gasps and squeaks. She held nothing back this time. Hungrily, she lapped at your slit, each lick finishing with a flourish on your sensitive little nub. You mewled in time with her curling tongue.
"Oh! That's— ah! So good!" You moaned, your back beginning to arch as you squirmed around on the mattress.
"You flatter me," Morn uttered between licks, looking proud. You saw something in her eye before she let go of one of your thighs and brought her hand to your entrance. Her tongue didn't let up at all as she slowly introduced one of her substantial fingers. It fit comfortably inside you at first, but you gasped hard when it started moving. Morn added another soon after, stretching you deliciously.
"I'm gonna come if you keep that up," you panted, your face burning red and lungs desperate for air.
"My pleasure," Morn said before redoubling her efforts. Her fingers curled inside you, making a "come hither" motion that made your hips rock. By this point, Morn's tongue had trouble staying on you as you writhed. You gasped with every finger curl, well and truly lost in the heat of the moment.
"Ah! Morn!" You cried, rocking yourself against her fingers desperate for more. She gave up on trying to lick your nub, instead palming one of your breasts with her other hand and pinning you to the bed. With the new leverage, she worked your insides with her fingers, pumping them in and out of you with her muscular arm. You could see sweat beading on her taut green skin.
"Come for me. I wanna see you come," Morn urged. You could do little else but cry out and oblige her. Your body spasmed hard as you cried out gibberish interspersed with her lovely name. Her fingers didn't stop rubbing against your inner walls, leaving you breathless and faint and tightly wound around her. The coiling pleasure within you finally snapped. Your back arched, completely leaving the bed as Morn pressed her lips into yours. She kissed you hungrily as you wailed into her mouth. There was nothing in your mind but the feeling of her fingers coaxing you through the height of your bliss and holding you there for as long as possible. When the pleasure finally started to subside and your breath returned to you, Morn finally withdrew her fingers and lips and wiped her forehead. She smiled at you wordlessly.
"I love you, Morn," you said, panting. There was nothing else to say, nothing else on your mind. If you had given yourself that sort of bliss on a lonely night, you would be drowsy and lethargic. Instead, with Morn turning her love for you into pleasure that made you cry out and curl, you had never felt more alive. She gave you a moment to catch your breath. Leaving your lips unkissed, she sat by your side and stroked your hair.
"I love you too," she planted a quick kiss on your forehead. "Are you tired?"
You shook your head enthusiastically. Sure, you would likely be sore in a few hours, but you wouldn't dream of denying Morn more of you.
"Good, because I wanna get off too." She chuckled and pecked your lips. Undressing herself completely, she helped you out of what clothes remained until you were both completely bare. You were completely flush against her on the bed once more, your skin perfectly complimenting her green form. Her body was toned and full, muscled yet smooth. Even after all you had just been through, the sight of her still made your heart skip.
"I've always wanted to try this. Spread your legs," she commanded, gently grasping your ankles. You complied and she lifted one of your legs aloft just in front of her as if about to hug it. Still holding your leg pointed toward the ceiling, she straddled your dripping warmth with her own. She eased herself onto you and those lovely electric feelings returned. She moaned for the first time, her pleasured sounds like music to your ears.
The position was a little awkward and bent your back in a strange way, but the feeling of her slick sex pressed against yours was delicious.
"I'm gonna start moving," Morn said. She initiated a gentle rocking motion that made you both gasp. The friction between the two of you felt gorgeous and you soon found yourself reciprocating with your hips. Interlocked and sharing the same squeaks and mewls, you wanted desperately to kiss her but couldn't. You had to lay there at her mercy as Morn clung to your leg and ground herself into you. She doubled up on her pace.
"Oh, shit," Morn groaned, both with pleasure and with effort. She had the same expression as when she was driving; when her head wasn't thrown back with a sigh, she was looking at you with love but also intent. Her grinding made you moan and her glare made you shiver delightfully. You had never felt anything like this before, nor had you even fantasized about Morn pressed up against you like this.
"This feels amazing... ah! Morn..." you sighed between yelps when the friction between you peaked.
"I—I..." Morn gasped, her entire face contorted and flushed. She had brought you to your peak once already, and now you wanted nothing more than to see her reach her own ecstasy.
"Please, Morn, come," you pleaded, mirroring her own urgency when she had brought you to orgasm earlier.
"No, I... Shit, I've got a cramp." She sighed, this time tinged with disappointment as she stopped her grinding. "Ouch." She gently disentangled herself from you, rubbing her thigh. The realization that her creased brow had come from pain and not pleasure embarrassed you a bit, an emotion that Morn echoed.
"Hey, it's okay." You sat up and held her shoulder. Her eyes were downcast as she massaged the cramp out of her muscled thigh. "Just so you know, I'm having a great time."
"You were having a great time." She winced as she shifted her kneeling weight on the bed. "Serves me right for thinking I could fuck like a pornstar on the first date, huh?"
"I already came once, Morn," you reminded her. Sitting alongside her, equally naked and sweaty, there was a clarity in the air that made it effortless to speak your mind. You felt bold, yet comfortable. You felt like you wanted more of Morn's body. "Let me take care of you. I think I can make this work."
"Take the lead, babe," Morn relented. The way she said babe made you giddy inside, but you were focused on her now. "Just mind the leg, it still freakin' hurts."
"Morn, when I say I'm gonna take care of you, I mean it. Just lie down," you said, easing her onto her back. With the positions reversed, you had a moment to look her up and down. Laid bare before you and anticipating your next move, the sight of her awoke something within you. Something that told you not to hold back.
You practically pounced atop her, squarely laying yourself on her body. She met you with a kiss that you eagerly returned. You channeled all your built-up desire to please her into that kiss, at the same time aligning your mound with hers. It took a few tries, but eventually, you found the angle where your clit could meet hers without requiring pornstar-style flexibility. Pleasure jolted through both of you and she broke the kiss to gasp.
"Told you I could make it work," you grinned, focusing now on the movement of your hips. You started slowly at first as to not tire yourself out but quickly increased the pace as the coiling warmth inside you grew. Instead of kissing her, you buried your face in her shoulder so you could hear her sing. With every roll of your hips she moaned, louder and louder as you humped her harder and harder.
"Oh, god, babe," Morn panted. You could feel her frenzied breath on your neck as she cried out. You could feel your own orgasm building but all you cared about was her.
"Tell me how you feel," you commanded, maintaining your hips' pace. "I want you to come so bad."
"Keep going," Morn grunted. "I'm close, I'm so fucking close!"
You furthered your efforts, grinding your desperate nub into hers with vigor. You panted as you began to feel tingles in your extremities and your breath became impossibly tight. Morn matched your desperation, her hips weakly pushing upwards so that her mound would meet yours sooner. Just a little more! More! You shouted to yourself mentally as Morn's hands squeezed your waist to signal her impending orgasm.
You frantically let go of her body with one hand, giving up precious leverage in order to make sure Morn couldn't escape the pleasure you were giving her. There was nothing you wanted more than to reach the peak together. You gently caught her pearl between your fingers and rolled it as you ground into her, drawing out deep moans from her. She spasmed in your grasp, gasping in time with your own pleased sighs.
"Oh god!" She cried out, throwing her head back into the piled-up blankets. Her whole body tensed and you could feel each of her rippling muscles press against you in a desperate bid to ride out her orgasm. You followed soon after, the air forced from your lungs as an explosion of tingling warmth knocked the wind out of you. All you could do was cry out with her and press your nub into hers where your hand was still at work. You rubbed and rolled, trying your best to prolong the mutual climax before finally catching your breath and collapsing into Morn's tired embrace.
With your body limp and your face buried in her neck, you could feel her breasts rise and fall with each breath. You held each other loosely for a moment, just listening to her breathe. After only a few heartbeats, she started giggling.
"What's so funny?" you asked, lifting your heavy head to look at her.
"Nothing," she stifled her giggles, a tear rolling down her cheek. "That was just really, really good."
"Are you crying?" You asked, concerned but secretly proud of your handiwork.
"No, I'm not crying. I'm tearing up, there's a difference," she chuckled. "Thank you."
"Thank you. You're the one that started it," you cooed, stroking her hair. "plus, you ate me out first so I think I owe you."
"It's on the house," Morn sighed contently. "But you're still on me... could you roll over, please?"
"Oh, sorry!" you quickly shifted your weight off of her and onto the mattress.
"Don't worry about it, I just figured the bed was softer than me." She chuckled again.
You said nothing, instead opting to resume your embrace with her from the side. She reciprocated, rolling over so she could be the big spoon. She wrapped her arms around you snugly.
"Ah, shit," Morn cursed under her breath.
"What? What's wrong?" You craned your neck a bit to see her golden eyes in your periphery.
"Our food is definitely cold by now," she grumbled, "and I don't have a microwave."
“I’ve got snacks in my bag.” You replied.
Morn readied a compliment, but delayed when both your phones buzzed. THA HOOLIGANZ had something to say.
“What is it now?” Morn rolled over and grabbed her phone, reading the messages as they rolled in. You did the same.
“What the…?”
Lash: did you two kiss yet???
Dera: they did more than that 😳😳😳
Morn shot you a look of disbelief before tapping away frantically.
Morn: wtf are you guys talking about?
You: ^
Lash: the crepe date! u two are dating now right?
You: what do u mean crepe date? the breakfast u failed to show up to u mean??
Lash: lol, relax. we just thought you two needed some time alone. for the record, i was actually hung over. me and dera just agreed you two needed to talk it out
Dera: seriously, u look at Morn the way she looks at crepes, and she looks at u the way Lash looks at literally anyone
Lash: or the way u look at dudes bulges
Dera: shut up
“I…” Morn began, jaw agape. “I don’t know if I should be mad or amazed. I’m both.”
“They set us up like lonely freshmen.” You shook your head, chuckling.
Lash: u two are dating now right???
Morn: yes dumbass
You: can confirm
Lash: CUTEEEEE
Dera: morn fucks on the first date. respect.
You: wait how- what?
Dera: ur in Morn’s dorm right
Your texting was interrupted by three solid thumps coming through the wall.
Dera: i’m right next door and these dorms are made of fucking paper
Morn: hey, i’ve dealt with hearing every single time you slept with some guy. fair is fair
Dera: no judgment from me!
Lash: suddenly i’m glad i still live with my parents…
You put your phone down as you really didn’t have much to say. Morn gave up on it as well, your phones resting together on the floor. She resumed spooning you and a moment later, you felt her chest start to heave with laughter; a hearty laugh loud enough for Dera to hear through the walls. You joined her, laughing until your diaphragm ached. The whole situation, the realization that Dera and Lash knew before either of you did and that they had a master plan… utterly ridiculous. It was like something out of a movie, yet with your arms wrapped around one of Morn’s, completely real. You feared this was all a dream, and as soon as you succumbed to sleep in Morn’s cozy twin bed, it would dissolve.
Morn could tell sleep started to take you.
“I love you,” she whispered into your ear. She squeezed you tight. You had never been more sure of anything in your life that Morn would still be cuddling you when you woke up.

Daughter of the Sea - Chapter 1
Series Masterlist
Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
(Y/n) stands in the kitchen of her mother and step-father's apartment, making the bean dip Smelly Gabe liked so much.
(Y/n) fixes her gaze on the counter but then she lets out a yelp as something hits her in between her shoulder blades.
"Hurry it up, girl!" Smelly Gabe snarls.
"Yes sir," (Y/n) murmurs.
A few minutes later, Gabe stalks into the kitchen, takes the dip without so much of a thank you.
(Y/n) fixes her gaze on the shoe on the ground before she moves to her room. She climbs into her bed, getting under her covers. (Y/n) turns, facing the wall.
She closes her eyes, falling to an uneasy sleep.
(Y/n) watches, disconnected from the others in the dream, as one of her brother's teachers turns into something that reminded her of a demon, or something similar that she'd read books about. The woman had bat wings, claws, and a mouth of yellow fangs.
Then (Y/n) looks around, her eyes widening in shock as she sees her brother holding a bronze sword.
Percy swings the sword, the demon exploding into yellow powder, vaporizing on the spot.
A hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder has (Y/n) jolting awake. "Honey? Are you okay?" Sally Jackson asks.
Catching the wide-eyed look of horror on (Y/n)'s face, Sally wraps her daughter in a hug.
(Y/n)'s breathing steadies, and she breathes in her mother's familiar scent - chocolate, licorice, and all the other things she sold at the candy shop in Grand Central Station.
"Did you get all your work done?" Sally asks softly, her thumb brushing over a slightly visible bruise that had appeared at the base of the back of her neck.
(Y/n) hums in reply.
. . .
The next day, (Y/n) is once again lying in her bed, not wanting to have to deal with Gabe throwing more shoes or glass bottles at / near her.
. . .
Percy walks into the apartment, dragging his suitcase behind him, hoping his mom would be home from work. Instead, Smelly Gabe is in the living room, playing poker with his buddies. The television blares ESPN; chips and beer cans are strewn all over the carpet.
Hardly looking up, he says around his cigar, "So, you're home."
"Where's my mom? (Y/n)?"
"Mom's working," Gabe says. "The girl's in her room. You got any cash?"
"That's it. No Welcome back. Good to see you. How has your life been the last six months?
Gabe had put on weight since the last time Percy had seen him. Gabe looked like a tuskless walrus in thrift-store clothes. He has about three hairs on his head, all combed over his bald scalp.
"I don't have any cash," Percy replies.
Gabe raises a greasy eyebrow. Gabe could sniff out money like a bloodhound, which is surprising, since his own smell should've covered up everything else.
"You took a taxi from the bus station," he says. "Probably paid with a twenty. Got six, seven bucks in change. Somebody expects to live under this roof, he ought to carry his own weight. Am I right, Eddie?"
Eddie, the super of the apartment building, looks at Percy with a twinge of sympathy. "Come on, Gabe," he says. The guy just got here."
"Am I right?" Gabe repeats.
Eddie scowls into his bowl of pretzels. The two other guys pass gas in harmony.
"Fine," Percy says. He digs a wad of dollars out of his pocket and throws the money on the table. "I hope you lose."
"Your report card came, brain boy!" He shouts back at Percy. "I wouldn't act so snooty!"
Percy slams the door to his room, which isn't really his room. During school months, it is Gabe's 'study.' He doesn't study anything in there except old car magazines, but he loves shoving his stuff in Percy's closet, leaving his muddy boots on the windowsill, and doing his best to make the place smell like his nasty cologne, cigars, and stale beer.
Percy drops his suitcase on the bed. Home sweet home he thinks.
Gabe's smell is almost worse than the nightmares about Mrs. Dodds, or the sound of that old fruit lady's shears snipping the yarn.
Percy sits, lost in his thoughts.
Then he hears his mom's voice, "Percy?" She opens the bedroom door, and his fears melt. "Oh, Percy," she hugs him tight. "I can't believe it. You've grown since Christmas."
Sally had brought Percy a bag of 'free samples' the way she always did whenever he'd come home.
The two sit together on the bed. While Percy attacks the blueberry sour strings, she runs her hands through his hair, demanding to know everything that he hadn't put in his letters. She doesn't mention his getting expelled. She doesn't seem to care about that.
Percy tells his mother that she is smothering him, but secretly, Percy is really, really glad to see her.
From the other room, Gabe yells, "Hey, Sally - how about some bean dip, huh?"
Percy grits his teeth. My mom is the nicest lady in the world. She should be married to a millionaire, not to some jerk like Gabe.
(Y/n) pads into Percy's room, and the dark haired boy brightens at the sight of his younger twin.
"I've got the dip, Mom," (Y/n) says softly. Sally gazes at her daughter for a moment, her gaze sad.
"Wait, (Y/n)," Sally says, and (Y/n) turns back to face her mother. "I've got a surprise for the two of you," she says. "We're going to the beach."
Percy's eyes widen. "Montauk?"
"Three nights - same cabin," Sally replies.
"When?" (Y/n) asks, looking excited.
She smiles, "As soon as I get changed."
(Y/n) can't believe it. Mom, Percy, and I hadn't been to Montauk in the last two summers because Gabe had said that there wasn't enough money.
Gabe appears in the doorway behind (Y/n) and growls, "Bean dip, Sally? Didn't you hear me?"
Percy wants to punch him, but he meets his mother's eyes, and understands that she is offering him a deal: Be nice to Gabe for a little while; just until she's ready to leave for Montauk.
"I've got it, Gabe," (Y/n) says.
"Sorry, honey," Sally says, looking at her husband. "We were just talking about the trip."
Gabe's eyes get small. "The trip? You mean you were serious about that?"
"I knew it," Percy mutters. "He won't let us go."
"Of course he will," Sally says evenly. "Your stepfather is just worried about money."
(Y/n) turns to face Gabe, smiling as kindly as she could. "What if I make a seven-layer dip that'll last the whole weekend?" she asks. "Guacamole. Sour cream. The works."
Gabe softens a bit, then turns back to face Sally. "So, this money for your trip . . . it comes out of your clothes budget, right?"
"Yes, honey," Sally replies.
"And you won't take my car anywhere but there and back."
"We'll be very careful."
Gabe scratches his double chin. "Maybe if the girl hurries up with the seven-layer dip . . . and if the boy apologizes for interrupting my poker game."
Maybe if I kick you in your soft spot, Percy thinks. And make you sing soprano for a week.
"I'm sorry," Percy mutters. "I'm really sorry I interrupted your incredibly important power game. Please go back to it right now."
Gabe's eyes narrow. His tiny brain is probably trying to detect the sarcasm in my statement, Percy thinks.
"Yeah, whatever," Gabe decides; he goes back to his game.
"Thank you, Percy," Sally says. "Once we get to Montauk, we'll talk more about...whatever you've forgotten to tell me, okay?"
For a moment, (Y/n) can see anxiety in her mother's eyes, but then her smile returns, and (Y/n) figures that she must've been mistaken.
. . .
An hour later, the three are ready to leave.
Gabe takes a break from his poker game long enough to watch (Y/n) and Percy lug the bags to his car. He keeps griping and groaning about losing her and (Y/n)'s cooking - and more important, his '78 Camaro - for the whole weekend.
"Not a scratch on this car, brain boy," Gabe warns Percy as he loads the last bag into the car. "Not one little scratch."
Like I'd be the one driving. I'm fourteen, Percy thinks.
Watching Gabe lumbers back towards the apartment building, Percy gets so mad that he does something he can't explain. As Gabe reaches the door, Percy makes the hand gesture he'd seen Grover made on the bus, a soft of warding-off-evil gesture, a clawed hand over his heart, then a shoving movement towards Gabe. The screen door slams so hard it whacks him the the butt and sends him flying up the staircase as if he'd been shot from a cannon.
. . .
(Y/n)'s POV
Our rental cabin is on the south shore, way out at the tip of Long Island. It is a little pastel box with faded curtains, half sunken into the dunes. There's always sand in the sheets, spiders in the cabinets, and most of the time the sea is too cold to swim in.
I loved the place.
Mom, Percy, and I had been going ever since Percy and I'd been a baby. Mom had been coming even longer. She'd never exactly said, but I know why the beach was special to her.
It's the place where she'd met my Dad.
As we get closer to Montauk, Mom seems to grow younger, years of worry and work disappearing from her face. Her eyes turn the color of the sea.
We get there around sunset, open all the cabin's windows, and go through the usual cleaning routine.
Mom, Percy, and I walk on the beach, feed blue corn-chips to the seagulls, and munch on blue jelly beans, blue saltwater taffy, and all the other free samples Mom had brought home from work.
I guess maybe I should explain all the blue food.
Gabe had once told Mom that there was no such thing. They had had this fight, which had seemed like a really small think at the time, but ever since, Mom went out of her way to eat blue. She baked blue birthday cakes, mixed blueberry smoothies, bought blue-corn tortilla chips, and brought home blue candy from the shop. This - along with keeping her maiden name, Jackson, rather than calling herself Mrs. Ugliano - is proof that she isn't totally suckered by Gabe. She did have a rebellious streak, just like Percy.
When it gets dark, we make a fire. We roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Mom tells Percy and me stories about when she was a kid, back before her parents had died in the plane crash. She tells us about the books she wanted to write someday, when she had enough money to quit the candy shop.
Eventually, it seems that Percy gets the nerve to ask about what is always on our minds whenever we come to Montauk - our father. Mom's eyes go all misty. I figure she would tell us the same things she always did, but neither Percy or I ever got tired of hearing them.
"He was kind, Percy," Mom replies. "Tall, handsome, and powerful. But gentle too, like you, (Y/n)." Mom says and I soften. "You have his black hair, Percy, and you both share his green eyes.
Mom fishes a blue jelly bean out of her candy bag. "I wish he could see you two. He would be so proud."
I wonder how she could say that when I'm the girl who cowers from her stepfather. The girl who hides in her room to get away from said stepfather.
"How old were we?" Percy asks, pulling me from my thoughts. "I mean . . . when he left?"
Mom watches the flames. "He was only with me for one summer, Percy. Right here at this beach. This cabin."
"But . . . he knew us as babies."
"No, honey," Mom replies. "He knew I was expecting twins, but he never met you. He had to leave before you were born."
I try to square that with the fact that I seem to remember . . . something about my father. A warm glow, maybe a smile.
Percy and I had always assumed that our father had known us as babies. Mom had never said it outright, but still, I'd felt that it must be true. Now, to be told that he'd never even seen us . . .
I feel angry at my father. Maybe it is stupid, but I resent him for going on that ocean voyage, for not having the guts to marry Mom.
"Are you going to send me away again?" Percy asks. "To another boarding school?"
Mom pulls a marshmallow from the fire.
"I don't know, honey," her voice is heavy. "I think . . . I think we'll have to do something."
"Because you don't want me around?" Percy says and I flinch, avoiding both his and Mom's gazes.
I glance up to see that Mom's eyes had welled up with tears. "Oh, Percy, no. I - I have to, honey. For your own good. I have to send you away."
"But you never send her away," Percy says and I look up, eyes wide with surprise.
Mom looks at Percy, eyes wide with shock.
Finally she says, "I have to keep both of you away from each other as much as possible. I thought you'd finally be safe."
"I tried to keep you as close to me as I could," Mom says. "They told me it was a mistake. But there's only one other option, Percy, (Y/n) - the place your father wanted to send you two. And I just . . . I just can't stand to do it."
"Our father wanted us to go to a special school?" I ask.
"Not a school," Mom replies. "A summer camp."
My head spins. Why would my dad - who hadn't even stayed around to see me and Percy be born - talk to Mom about a summer camp?
"I'm sorry, (Y/n)," Mom says, seeing the look in my eyes. "But I can't talk about it. I - I couldn't send you two to that place. It might mean saying goodbye to you for good."
"For good?" Percy asks. "But if it's only a summer camp . . ."
Mom turns towards the fire, and I know from her expression, that if we asked any more questions, she would start to cry.

Heya :D for a request could I ask for something like Wanda and yn out shopping for food or stuff for their room and a little girl comes up to them excited because their her favourite superheroes, especially Wanda (which of course makes her super happy since she's used to being called a monster) and like asks for their autographs/picture? Maybe Wanda does something cute like use her powers to take something off a top shelf to show them to the girl? please and thank you :3
mwah mwah thank u for this request @xxxtwilightaxelxxx !!!! <3 hope you like it
Tumblr media
You and Wanda loved crafts. A nice hobby on the side for avengers like you two. Yeah she was also a witch and yeah you had super strength and night vision but you guys liked normal stuff just as much as the next person.
So, you decided it would be a cool idea to go on a “Michael’s craft store” date. Well, maybe not a date considering both of you were too afraid to admit feelings for one another, but you had just a tiny bit of hope Wanda might think of it like one. She of course agreed, so Tony let you borrow his normal looking-ish cars and drove there that following Thursday.
Getting out of the car, you two couldn’t wait to get inside, giggling as both of you tried not running to get in faster. Once you got a cart, you two started hunting for everything. Fabric, pens, yarn, wall frames, etc. Wanda was mostly in front of you the whole time while you slowly pushed the cart. She would just ramble about a new book she was reading or a sitcom show she found really funny. Honestly, you could never get tired of her talking. You two were stopped however, by a little girl.
“M-Miss?” A tiny little voice came from the small girl and Wanda looked down.
“Yes?” Wanda asked, her voice soft a delicate, making sure not to scare away the innocent child.
“Are you W-Wanda Maximoff?” The witch slowly crouched down, giving the girl a warm smile.
“That would be me, yes.”
The girl jumped for joy and in her victory, did a cute little spin. She looked very excited, which made your chest feel warm and gave you a smile.
“You’re my favorite Ms.Maximoff!” The girl exclaimed in delight. “M-May I please have your autograph?” She held out a crinkled picture of what looked like a drawing of Wanda made by her.
The red head grinned further and reached for her small purse and pulled out a pen.
“Of course I can. What would I do if I didn’t have fans like you.” She took the paper, smoothed it out and wrote in the corner:
“Thank you for making my day
~ Love Wanda Maximoff”
The girl’s eyes looked like they were gonna bulge out of her head when the witch handed the paper back. She looked at Wanda again with puppy dog eyes.
“Can I hug you?” Wanda laughed, and you swear it made your heart skip a beat.
“Of course you can.” She held out her arms and the little girl rushed in, wrapping her arms around her neck and giving her a big hug. Wanda laughed again, hugging the child and patting her on the back.
“Thank you for being my hero,” the little girl whispered.
After the hug, the little girl went to leave but accidentally dropped the paper Wanda had signed without realizing it.
“Hey wait you forgot the paper!” Wanda called out and used a little bit of her magic to let it float in the air and back to the little girl. The girl with her jaw practically on the floor, looked at the piece of art like it was pure solid gold. She hugged it close to her and giggled as she ran back to her mom.
You couldn’t help but grin the whole time. That was the cutest shit you have ever seen.
“Didn’t realize you were good with kids,” you quipped and she chuckled, but it didn’t go unnoticed that she also got flustered by that comment.
“Come on we still gotta shop for materials.”
“Yeah but you are so cute with kids!”
“Don’t push it (Y/N)...”
You both laughed.

Changbin was naturally curious. Whether it be about his cousin's current class, what his bandmate ate for yesterday’s dinner or the weather of a country on the opposite side of the globe. He was curious about anything and everything. So, naturally, after dating Y/N for about two months, he would get curious about the lime bracelet that wrapped itself around his boyfriend’s hand. The said trinket was held together by a single thread of yarn, decorated with miniature glass beads and a tiny, fluffy frog in the middle. If he was being honest with himself, it did not look aesthetically pleasing. In fact, it wasn't. The beads were uneven and scuffed up, the color choice was horrible and overall it just looked like it hadn’t been washed in a while. He was afraid to call his partner out on this, being the shy bear he was, but after seven weeks with his boyfriend, both his curiosity and hygiene-oholic self got the better of him.
“You know,” Changbin mumbled in a sing-song tone, staring at the unattractive accessory, “you never told me about that…” he pauses, rethinks his words and continues again as his boyfriend locks eyes with him, “bracelet around your wrist.” Y/N freezes, resulting in both of them halting, and with them, their stroll at the park.
“You okay?” Changbin asks, half confused, half worried, “I’m talking about the—”
“Yeah, I know what you’re talking about.” Y/N cuts him off, lips quivering as he tightens his grip on the paper bags he holds, almost ripping the fragile sheets, “Let’s just drop these off at Nicky’s first.” Nicky’s is the name of the local bread shop they deliver to and for. In fact, both men had met each other there as delivery boys. To the owner’s surprise, both hit it off pretty well. Too well to the point that they started dating.
The walk out of the park and into the autumn street was quiet, way quieter than it was supposed to be. The street was bustling, there were cars honking their horns and bicycles ringing their bells, but it was all ear-splitting silence with Y/N. After dating him for seven weeks, and knowing him for even more, he was sure his boyfriend was always bubbly and upbeat. But in this moment, something about his actions, or the lack thereof, said the exact opposite. And to be really honest, it made Changbin uneasy. He knew what he said had upset his partner. He wanted to apologize but was too afraid—to sound dumb and repetitive or to hurt his feelings even more. Which of the two was it? That he was unsure of.
“Good morning Mrs. Park!” Changbin greets, showing his dimples off as both boys enter the shop.
“Good morning!” Mrs. Park chirps back, raising her head towards both men, retracting the knife from the loaf she held. “Oh! Those must be the bread I ordered! Thank you for getting them, you know me, too old to walk all the way to the supplier. Too old to remember to do so too.” She laughs, putting the bread knife flat on the wooden cutting board as she shifts her gaze from Changbin to Y/N. “Oh! You can put that in the back.” Y/N nods as he drags his feet towards the back of the shop, slowly disappearing into its retro-ness.
The store’s aroma was always the same, the smell of lavender and the chilly air slapping them in the face whenever they went in. But Y/N’s aura wasn't. And Mrs. Park could tell.
“What’s up with him?” She asked, raising a brow, not really expecting the answer she would get.
“I asked him about that lime bracelet he has on all the time.” Changbin replies, sighing, “It’s… kinda dirty don't you think?”
“Oh.” is all she replies. She stays silent for an uncomfortable amount of time until Changbin realizes.
“I… didn’t do anything wrong, right?” He says, hoping for the best, “What is it any—”
“I think it would be better if you ask him yourself.”
“Well…” Changbin doubles back, “if it’s anything uncomfortable for him to share, then I won’t bug about it anymore. I don’t want to sacrifice his feelings for my curiosity.” He replies, unsure of what to think.
Mrs. Park nods and as if on queue, Y/N reappears and steps out the pantry, paper bags that were previously held by his hands gone. He smiles at the lady in her 40’s and heads straight to the door, leaving the scent of lavender and bread behind. Changbin follows suit, looking at Mrs. Park as she nods back, sending him a reassuring smile.
Changbin steps out into the breezy autumn eventide, hues of marigold and tangerine painting the afternoon skies like a canvas. Y/N trudged and crossed the street, entering back into the park, the aura much different from before. What was bright and warm this afternoon became darker and colder as the moon began its daily process: replacing the sun. What was once a yellow orb glowing high up in the sky was now just a small orange blob on the horizon, and on the opposite side of the colored canvas, a glimmering white crescent, slowly rising through the blue hues. Changbin found the indigo, azure, tangerine and marigold ombré charming, a sight he would never forget. Y/N spotted a nearby bench and sat down, his boyfriend taking the empty space beside him. They sat there for a while, staring at the moms telling their children to get off the swings so they can go home, and the hotdog vendor packing up and calling it a day. In a way, both the swings and the hotdogs reminded him of someone… special.
“I—” Y/N pauses, trying to rephrase his words once again, “I haven’t really told you about this,” he says, brushing his fingers ever so slightly over the lime fabric on his wrist, “gift.”
Changbin is confused, visually confused at that, but keeps quiet and lets him continue. “A friend of mine… gave this to me.” Y/N says, looking up towards the darkening skies, holding a tear back, “At first I thought it sucked, you know, the beads don’t look that nice. I didn’t see its value.” He said, face scrunching as he tries his hardest not to let a tear out. “So I didn’t wear it.” Changbin nods, unsure of what to say.
“He passed away a month later.” He fails to keep the cap on his bottled feelings on, a tear or two slipping out, “I found him in the bathtub, blood everywhere, and his face… oh his face,” Changbin wraps him in warmth, “it looked lifeless and yet so… sorrowful.” He says, clenching the left side of his shirt, more tears dripping down the side of his face, only to be dried up by the fabric of his boyfriend’s shirt, “I didn’t know that was possible.”
Changbin hugged and patted his back for a while until he calmed down, until he could finally form a proper sentence. “He helped me figure out and accept who I am.” Y/N says, the left side of his lip pulling up as his face forms a melancholic smile, “I didn’t realize it back then, but I wouldn’t have been so open with my sexuality now if it wasn’t for him.” Both stared up at the young night sky, the elegant stars beginning to show themselves. “I’ve worn this,” he says, fiddling with the dirty cotton frog in the center of the trinket, “since the day we buried him.”
Y/N lets a tear fall once again as he leans his head on Changbin’s shoulder, finding the closure he thought he’d already found months ago. “I loved him. Still do. I just wish he would've told me about his problems. Just wish he would’ve stuck around for a little longer.” Changbin nods once again, still unsure of what to say.
“But that was all in the past. There’s nothing I can do about it now.” Y/N says, ripping his eyes away from the lime bracelet, staring up at the midnight blue sky, the bijou stars twinkling in the distance, “Nothing but remember him with this ugly ass ornament.” Changbin looks into his eyes, confused.
“This ugly ass ornament that means the world to me.”
End.

Captive - 9
Hi Readers - I hate to be like this, but if you love this story, please go here to subscribe.  I’m not intentionally neglecting the free content, it’s just getting overlooked right now.  My next book deadline in Nov15 (2020).  Normally, it’s just me writing for me and you get the benefit from that.  This time Podium Audiobooks has me under contract for second book in the Mistaken Universe.
Also - if you have the time - the occasional gentle reminder is appreciated.  Today’s post is brought to you by @dizzy-poncho who sent me some love and made my brain realized I hadn’t posted in a while.
The sound of someone pounding on the door was less than an ideal way to be awoken. As was the kitten, who had up to that point had been curled up behind her knees, screeching and bolting. Elly glanced at her watch, she had managed maybe four hours of sleep. The person on the other side of the door pounded again. Groaning, Ellly got to her feet, stomped over to the shop door and wrenched it open.
“What?!”
The church ladies were clearly taken aback by her tone. They stared at her in stunned horror.
“The sign says we’re closed for the day.” Elly announced.
“I just need-” Posy started to say, but Elly interrupted.
“You need to come back tomorrow.”
Posy narrowed her eyes, “I could just as easily order my yarn off the internet instead, you know!”
“I’m sorry you feel that way,” Elly replied sadly.  “Good day then.” She then closed the door on the women’s shocked faces. She leaned against the door for a minute and groaned before rallying the strength to head upstairs. On her way she nearly tripped over the reappeared kitten.
“Jesus, cat! Learn some self preservation!” Elly scolded as she scooped up the tiny thing. The kitten clamored up her arm to her shoulder and settled in for the trek upstairs. Elly tried to remember where she had stored Mitten’s cat stuff. In all likelihood she probably gave it away when she figured her cat had been eaten...Well she’d need to take the kitten for vaccinations anyways. She could pick up whatever she needed then. First thing on the list, a bell collar.
Well, that could be second. The first thing she needed was a name. Elly wondered for a moment if George would want any say in that. The thought could wait. First she needed a nap, or possibly a whole lot of coffee. Likely both.
Ben was just staggering out of the spare room when Elly got back to her apartment.  “Shit, boss, I am late getting started this morning.”
Elly sighed, “We are closed today.  How are you feeling?”
Ben shrugged, then rubbed his bleary eyes, “Slightly hung over, possible still a little drunk, and baffled that you have a dragon living in your basement.”  He looked at her face and frowned, “Did you sleep last night?”
Elly shook her head again, “Not really.  I napped.”
Ben winced, “Was that my fault?”
Elly shook her head again, “I was up too late and started getting creeped out by the sounds of the house settling.”  Ben really did look awful.  “Right!” she announced, making him wince again.  “Big glass of water, a couple of aspirin and back to bed.”
Bean groaned, “I would roll my eyes at you except that they feel like they might fall out of my head if I tried.”
Elly snickered under her breath and went to the kitchen for a glass.
“So tell me about George.”
She froze.  This was awkward.  “I think you should ask him about him.  Carefully. I don’t want to offend the dragon in my basement and neither do you.”  She filled the glass with water and handed it to him.  As Ben drank the water she pulled the aspirin out of the spice drawer.
“Does he breath fire?” he asked, lightly, trying to make a joke.
Elly pursed her lips as she considered that.  “More like belches fire, but he can adjust his body temperature to heat the building.”
“You are fucking kidding me!”  His eyes went wide as Elly shook her head.  “Holy shit.”  It was said reverentially, whispered almost like a prayer.  Ben took two steps to the left and sat heavily in one of the kitchen chairs.
Elly gave him a sympathetic look.  “I am honestly unsure if this conversation would be better once you are sober.  It could turn out to be worse.”  She hesitated for a moment before adding, “Are you planning on quitting?”
“Why would I quit?” Ben asked with a frown.
Elly frowned right back at him.  “Because there is a dragon in the basement.  And if you tell anyone, they will just think you’re delusional.”
Ben considered this.  “You won’t.  Think I’m insane, I mean.”
“I’m not really the best judge of sane, Ben.” She sounded sad when she said it.
There was a long moment of tension before the kitten stropped up against Ben’s leg, causing him to curse and stand up fast enough to knock over his chair.  It hit the ground with a clatter and the kitten bolted.
“Was that Muffin?” he mumbled, looking sheepish as he picked up the chair.
Elly frowned, “You mean Mittens?  No.  George brought it home last night.”
“Like a present?  That’s sweet.”  After a moment, Ben added “And a little weird. Where did George get a kitten?”
“He said someone killed its mom and littermates.  He was vague on the details and I didn’t push.  He would have told me if he wanted me to know.”
Ben shivered, “Yeah.  I was picking up my spice delivery at the post office last week and overheard the Debbie from the pound saying it was less killing cats and more a plaque of cat mutilations.”
Elly went very still.  When Ben finally looked up and met her eyes, she whispered, “Are we talking disemboweling here?”
Ben blinked and stared at her in horror before nodding.  “How did you know that?”
Elly spun on her heels and fussed at the sink, giving it a wipe before putting the kettle on the hob.  “George was unusually circumspect about what had happened. I couldn’t figure out why, he isn’t usually shy.”
Ben snorted, “I can see that about him.”  He watched her face, it was easy to see the wheels turning, but he couldn’t figure out what she was thinking.  “If someone is hunting cats, it might be safer to take … um. . . her?  Or him?  Whatever, take the kitten to a vet a couple of towns over.  If you are keeping it, I mean.”
Elly gave him a puzzled look, “Of course I’m keeping it.”
Ben fought a smirk, “You sure?  Have you named it yet?”
Elly considered this.  “Nyx, goddess of night.”
Ben snicked, “Really?  What if its a boy?”
Elly rolled her eyes, “Ben, I’m not going to enforce gender roles on a kitten.”
Ben just shook his head.  “Fine, but when we go to the vet, you get to drive.”
----
The vet proclaimed Nyx to seem perfectly healthy and old enough for vaccination and FIV testing.    They booked her in for a spay in two weeks.  Next stop was the pet store.
Ben picked out an adjustable purple collar and neoprene cat harness.  Elly gave him a look.  “What?  You can harness train cats it you get them young enough.  I follow Suki Cat on instagram!”
Elly blinked, “Huh.  I never would have picked you for a cat person.”
He smirked, “Stupid cat videos is what the internet is for.”
“Really?  Because I suspect most people would say porn,” Elly teased, then was surprised when he blushed.  She managed to fight the urge to comment on that, and while she was wrestling with her morals, Ben left to go look at cat carriers.  Nyx meowed and tightened her tiny claws into Elly’s shoulder where she was sitting.
“I’m sorry!” she blurted out.  “That was rude.”
Ben just waved her away.  “More unexpected. I haven’t seen that side of you. You are very, um, professional.”  He didn’t make it sound like a compliment.  When he realized she was frowning slightly, Ben flashed her a smile.  “You are a great boss, Elly.”
Elly coughed, “I’m not actually your boss, you know.”
Ben blushed again.  That was new.  “Any preference on cat food?”
Realizing he was trying to change the subject, Elly turned to face with wall of food.  “Wet food for cats.  I’ve never had one do well on kibble.”
“Did, um, your other cats sit on your shoulder like that?”
“Nope, this is a first, but she seems to like it up there.”
They watched each other awkwardly for a moment.  Elly broke first.  “Ben?  Are you OK?”
Ben quickly turned his head to the right and scoped out the litter boxes.  “Ina wasn’t that fun to work with,” he admitted.  “Most of the time you are.  Weird, but fun.  I’m starting to understand where the weird comes from.  And now I know that too.  How do you go through your day knowing something like that?”
Elly sighed.  “Ben -  Look, tell me about yeast.”
“What?”
Elly rubbed her eyes, making Nyx meow and dig her little claws into Elly’s sweater.  “You told me that yeast for bread used to come from beer, then the beer yeast changed and there was a shortage, right?”
Ben frowned, “Yeah, brewers switched from top fermenting to bottom fermenting and that process didn’t make the byproduct that bakers use.  But what does that have to do with George?”
“How many people do you think know that?”
“Elly!  It doesn’t matter!  People knowing or not knowing about yeast doesn’t actually matter!”
Elly just raised an eyebrow, “How does knowing about George matter?  Yeast is way more practical on a day to day basis.”  Ben stared at her like she was insane.  Elly kept talking, “Most people, including me, would consider baking bread or spinning wool or knitting a weird and slightly esoteric hobby.  George is just one more weird bit of trivia that you now know.”

Desperation - chapter 11
Tumblr media
25: “I’ll trade you”
[AO3]
x
Making the cupcakes was fun. Bae managed to find aprons for them both and helped to measure out the ingredients and beat the eggs as Belle mixed the butter and sugar together. Bae had suggested that they make a carrot cake mix, and Belle thought this was a good idea; grated carrot would at least get a little nutrition into Gold if he ate some. She added chopped walnuts and spices to the mix, and after making up the cake batter they spooned it into paper cases packed into a tray. Bae sat down on one of the kitchen chairs, licking cake batter from the wooden spoon they had used to mix it. Belle had run a finger around the bowl herself, and had to admit that it tasted pretty good.
“What frosting do you want?” she asked, as she slid the tray into the oven.
“I don’t think we have any cream cheese, so buttercream, I guess.”
“Ooh, yum!” Belle began washing the mixing bowl, ready to make the frosting. “You think your dad will like these?”
“Course he will, because we made them,” said Bae, with certainty. “He likes chocolate cake, too. And oatmeal raisin cookies. Can we make cookies?”
“Let’s see how the cupcakes turn out first,” said Belle, smiling at his enthusiasm. “How was Neal? Did you get to see the kittens?”
“They were sleeping with their mom,” said Bae. “He showed me on the phone. They’re so cute! His mom says I can go get them when the Mayor lets us out. I want the little black one with the white feet, and the stripey one.”
“They sound adorable,” she said, scrubbing the bowl clean. “Kittens like playing and getting into stuff. Your dad’s yarn could be in trouble.”
“Oh, yeah.” Bae looked thoughtful. “We’ll have to keep an eye on them if they’re in the lounge, I guess.”
“Will he mind if they mess things up?”
“He wouldn’t yell at them,” said Bae. “Papa never yells. I don’t want them to wreck his stuff though, even if they’re just playing. Maybe we can make them some toys.”
Belle thought for a moment.
“Do you know how to make pom-poms?” she asked. “If your Papa has some spare wool, we could make some and put them on strings for the kittens to chase.”
Bae looked excited.
“Yeah! I think I remember,” he said. “Papa showed me how. We cut circles out of card and wind wool through, right?”
“Right.” Belle dried the mixing bowl. “We’ll need to ask your dad if we can use some of his wool. Maybe this afternoon, when we’ve finished all the baking you want to do.”
“Okay. Cool.”
“In that case, why don’t you get the powdered sugar, and we’ll make the buttercream?” suggested Belle.
x
The cupcakes were soon sitting on a rack, filling the kitchen with the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg and covered with craggy crowns of buttercream. They had also made two batches of cookies (oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip), and they were cooling on wire racks, ready to go in the cookie jar. Belle finished the load of laundry, and folded the clothes, packing them into the laundry basket to be taken upstairs. Bae helped to fold the sheets, but that seemed to drain him of all energy, and Belle surmised that he had still not fully recovered from the virus. He was unusually subdued, his natural energy having disappeared, and so she sent him to the lounge with a glass of milk and a cupcake and told him to rest.
She peeked in on Gold when she took the clean laundry upstairs, but he was sleeping soundly, so she left him to it, setting the clean clothes down on his dresser and tiptoeing out. Bae had put the TV on, but when she put her head around the lounge door he was also asleep. Smiling to herself, she put the crochet blanket over him and went to clean up in the kitchen.
By the time the sun was setting, Belle felt as though her feet were ready to fall off. Bae came shuffling through just as she was preparing dinner, rubbing his eyes and yawning.
“Hey!” she said, smiling as she slid the mac and cheese into the oven. “How are you feeling?”
“Okay.” He wrinkled his nose. “I fell asleep.”
“You sure did,” she said. “I was going to take your dad a cup of tea and one of these cupcakes. You want to help?”
“Can I take him a cookie too?”
“I’m sure he’d love that.” Belle went to pour out the tea. “You did a great job on mixing that dough. Quite the chef.”
“Papa lets me help him bake.”
“Well, you’re both very talented,” she said. “It’s lucky I’m staying with you, or I’d never get to make anything this delicious.”
Bae beamed at her as he put one of the cakes and a cookie on a small plate.
“Where’s your house, Belle?” he asked.
“Oh, I just have an apartment above the library,” she said. “It’s small, only one bedroom, but I guess It’s enough for now.”
“But if it’s above the library, you don’t have a garden,” he said. “Where do you grow vegetables?”
Belle gave him a rueful smile.
“I’m afraid I never quite got around to growing my own food,” she said. “I have to rely on the store.”
“We can’t grow everything we want,” Bae conceded. “There’s no fruit trees and we don’t have a pumpkin patch. But it’s okay because we forage in the woods and we swap stuff with Neal’s dad and with Anton. He has a farm too.”
“Oh, so you swap for things you don’t have?” Belle added milk to the cups and stirred. “That makes sense.”
“Yeah, like maybe Anton has too many pumpkins, and Papa has too many carrots, so they say “I’ll trade you” and then everyone gets to eat good things.”
“Sounds perfect,” said Belle, smiling at his enthusiasm. “Come on, let’s take your dad his tea.”
Gold was awake when they entered the room, and had propped himself up on the pillows a little. His breathing was still uneven, and he looked hollow-eyed and exhausted, but he smiled warmly at Bae and hugged him tight.
“We made cupcakes!” Bae announced, his voice a little muffled by Gold’s T-shirt. “And cookies! Your favourite.”
“Well, you have been busy.” Gold kissed the top of his head. “Let’s have a taste.”
“We made a carrot cake mix,” said Belle, as Gold took a bite. “We thought it would do you good, get some nutrition inside you.”
“They have nuts in, too!” put in Bae.
Gold made noises of enjoyment, nodding his head as he chewed. There was a blob of frosting on the edge of his lip, and Belle watched as he swiped at it with a long finger and sucked it off. His eyes flicked to hers, and she looked away.
“Delicious,” he said.
“Try the cookies!” said Bae excitedly. “We put the big raisins in.”
Belle bit her lip in amusement as Gold dutifully ate the cookie.
“I can see Granny has competition on her hands,” he said, his voice lower and rougher with coughing. You two could open up a bakery together.”
Bae wriggled with delight, and Belle set the cup of tea down on the nightstand.
“How are you feeling?” she asked, and he lay back against the pillows with a sigh.
“I’m okay,” he said. “I’m sure I’ll be better soon.”
He held her gaze steadily, and Belle picked up on the silent message.
“Bae, your dad didn’t try the chocolate chip cookies yet,” she said. “You want to go get him one?”
“Yeah!”
Bae trotted off happily, and Belle turned back to Gold, folding her arms.
“How are you really feeling?” she asked, and he screwed up his face.
“Feels like there’s a ton of weight on my chest,” he said. “It’s exhausting, honestly.”
“Well, you just stay in bed,” she said firmly. “Bae and I have everything under control.”
“So I see.” He gave her a slanted grin. “How is he?”
“He took a nap this afternoon,” she said. “I think he’d overdone things a little. But he’s a lot better this evening. He’s on the mend.”
“Good.” He ran a hand through his hair with a sigh, and reached for his tea. “Sorry about earlier. I wasn’t expecting to find you in my bedroom.”
“Oh, it’s fine, really,” she said hurriedly, feeling her cheeks start to heat. “Just - bad timing, that’s all.”
“Yes.” He took a drink. “Well. I’ll be sure to be more careful while you’re here. No more unexpected nudity.”
“In that case I promise I’ll do likewise,” she said primly, and he chuckled.
“If you could. In my delicate state I don’t think my heart could take it.”
Belle giggled, still blushing, and he grinned and took another drink of tea.
“At least I know Bae’s in good hands while I’m lying here like a useless lump,” he said. “He seems to have taken a shine to you. It’s nice to see.”
“He’s a great kid,” she said honestly. “You must be very proud of him.”
“Yeah.” He smiled, setting down his cup. “Best thing I ever did with my life.”
“And he’s worried about you,” she added. “To be honest, so am I. I know we really only just met, but I - I kind of feel like we’re friends. Are we friends?”
His smile grew a little.
“Of course,” he said. “You’ve been a true friend to us this past week. I won’t forget it.”
She smiled, and he looked hesitant, glancing across at her.
“When all this is over,” he said. “When you go back to your own life and - and you get busy with running the library, I hope you’ll come and visit us. Maybe - maybe for dinner, or something.”
“Now that I know how good you both are at cooking?” she teased. “I’ll be over here so often you’ll get sick of the sight of me.”
Gold’s smile grew soft, dark eyes gleaming in the light of the lamps.
“I don’t think that would be possible,” he said quietly.

有缘再见
(If Fate Allows We'll Meet Again)
Liu Yang Yang
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
" What was the most impulsive thing you did before coming to SM ? "
It was another session of soju and wine among the wayv members on a typical Friday night.
All of them exchanged stories of their lives before wayv during these times, and now the question is directed at Yang Yang.
" I had a girlfriend for 4 hours and she's the only girl I dated. "
The mall was crowded as usual, both tourists and locals shop here in Germany.
All of Yang Yang's friends left him to hang out with their girlfriends.
' So much for the bro code ' , he thought.
He walked towards the entrance of the indoor amusement park in the mall.
' Nah it's ridiculous coming here on my own. ' , so he halted his tracks and prepared to leave.
That is until someone tapped him on the shoulder.
He turned his head to see a girl who's significantly shorter than himself, what surprised him was that she was Asian.
" Hi, I'm Y/N, and I'm here alone because my parents are in the concert hall next door. Their concert is going to end at 12, so I have nothing to do and I'm unfamiliar with this country. So I was just wondering if you wanted to be my boyfriend for the next 4 hours ? Show me around, stuff like that. This seems like a huge mall with lots of nice dating spots. "
" Sure. "
Next thing Yang Yang knew was that Y/N bolted towards the ticketing counter and bought back two entry tickets to the indoor amusement park.
" Come on ! We only have 4 hours. "
She took his hand and dragged him to the nearest ride.
" Don't worry, this is really safe. " Yang Yang said as they got into the roller coaster.
" Who says I'm scared ? "
And true to her words, she wasn't.
Yang Yang was surprised to see that she enjoyed every moment of the thrill of the exhilarating ride.
She even laughed aloud after they finished the ride. She truly was a girl Yang Yang had never encountered.
Yang Yang and Y/N got on all the rides that girls usually never go for, the ones that make your hair all messed up, the ones that get you a little wet, even the scary ones that his homies' girlfriends avoided like the plague.
When Yang Yang asked her why she said, " because the more scary they are, the more complicated the mechanism is, the more complicated the mechanism is, the more expensive the cost of the ride is. In conclusion, I'm making my money's worth instead of wasting it on the plastic ponies. "
She pointed at the carrousel which was filled with girls their age with full fledged make up, taking selfies in front of the magical lights.
That was when Yang Yang noticed that she wasn't wearing any make up, unlike all the German girls he's seen. The only thing she's wearing is probably coloured lip balm, a bright shade of orange red adorned on her lips.
Even her clothes were different, more eastern style he suspects.
Instead of the gym tights girls like to wear, she's wearing black skinny jeans and a silk button up. A tiny jade replica of a dragon dangles from a yarn necklace, similar to the one his mom has. Y/N's Chinese, just like him.
' That would explain her opinion on rides that are worth her money. ' Yang Yang lets out a smile at that thought.
" What are you laughing about ? Is it about my hair being messed up ? "
She reached her hand up to tame her messy hair.
" No I was just thinking about your theory on rides that are worth your money. "
" I should be eligible for Harvard for that. "
Yang Yang realised how much he truly enjoyed Y/N's presence, the way she jokes and the way she sees things differently.
Yang Yang shook his head of these thoughts.
' You only get to be her for a few hours, don't overthink this, just enjoy it while it lasts. '
" How about we grab something to eat ? My treat. "
" I'd love to. "
They arrived at a classic German cuisine restaurant.
" Are you sure about this, Yang Yang ? This place looks kinda pricey. "
" Don't worry, I bought extra money thinking my friends wouldn't bail me out on this. "
" You were with friends? "
" Yeah, they ditched me for their girlfriends. "
" My girls do that to me too, I'm always jealous of them, running off like that. They always say I'm too shy to date anyone. Y/N, the one who's never impulsive when it comes to dating. "
" How about we take a photo together ? You can brag about our little rendezvous here. "
" Your ideas are always appealing, Yang Yang. "
She scooted over her chair to Yang Yang whilst he asks for a waiter's aid in taking the photo.
After they finished their meal, they went to the clawing machines.
" You didn't seem like the type to like these. "
" I used to get them for my mom when I was young. I want you to have one too, something to remember me by or this moment. "
Yang Yang got it on his 5th try, which probably costs the same as if you bought one at a store.
' But it's the sentimental meaning that counts. ' Y/N thought to herself.
Yang Yang placed the plushie in her hands. It was a Stitch.
" Why the Stitch ? "
" You don't like it ? "
" I do. But I want to know the reason behind your choice of plushie for me. "
" In Hawaiian, Lilo and Stitch means lost and found. You were sort of lost tonight, but you found me. Now that I've given you a Stitch, I'll always be beside you wherever you are. Whenever you feel lost in life, give it a hug, think of it as me being there for you. "
Y/N enveloped Yang Yang into her tiny, but warm embrace.
" Thank you so much Yang Yang, I'll remember you forever and this moment we're having. "
Both Yang Yang and Y/N are tearing up now, both of them have never encountered such a special person in their lives, and the thought of separating after tonight seems to hollow out their hearts.
Yang Yang checked his watch, 11.30 p.m. .
" We only have thirty minutes left before your parents come back to fetch you and the mall closes. How about we break your rule about rides that are complicated only and take a ride on the ferris wheel ? "
" Sure. "
Yang Yang took Y/N's hand into his and led her to the queue of the ferris wheel, they didn't let go all the way throughout the waiting, even as they boarded the compartment.
The ride was silent, the both of them leaned into each other's embrace. Y/N's head on Yang Yang shoulder. Yang Yang's hand around her waist.
As they reached the top of the ride, Yang Yang broke the silence.
" This is going to be the most cliché thing you ever heard. But can I kiss you? "
Y/N had the biggest smile on her face as she put her hands behind his nape to lean in and connect their lips.
The happy couple was inseparable as they wandered through the flee market in the mall, Yang Yang's arm slung over Y/N's shoulder, keeping her by his side.
Y/N stopped her tracks at a jewelry stall. She picked up a pair of earrings that were placed on the table.
" How much is this ? "
" 8. "
She paid for the earrings and took off one of her own, and slipped it into her wallet
It was a star, the other was a crescent moon.
She handed the moon to Yang Yang.
" Wear this as long as you still like me, and take it off when you no longer like me. So when the next time if we ever meet again I'll know if we still share the same feelings. Deal ? "
" Deal. "
Yang Yang removed his earring to put on the one you have him.
" Dear shoppers, closing time is in two minutes. Please finish your shopping and proceed to the exits. We're opening at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, we welcome you again then. And remember to drive home safely. "
" My parents should be waiting for me at the main exit about now. "
" I'll walk you there. "
Yang Yang wished this mall was when bigger than it is now, just so that he could spend more time with Y/N.
Y/N stopped her tracks at the side of the escalators at the first floor.
" Those are my parents. It's best that they don't see me with someone they don't know, they're rather protective. "
" So this is goodbye ? We could keep in touch, Instagram or Twitter or Snapchat ? "
" I live on the other side of the world, Yang Yang. But there's still a chance we'll meet again, let fate decide for us. "
She gave him one last kiss on the lips.
“ 有缘再见。”
“ 有缘再见。 ”
Yang Yang was starting to let her hand go, but he suddenly thought of something he hasn't asked.
" Wait. I still have one more thing I need to know. Why the moon and the star? Out of all the other ones. "
" Because in the vast night sky, the moon and the stars will always belong together, no matter where they are. "
She squeeze his hand for the last time, and let go.
Yang Yang watched her until she reached her family, he could see her smile from here.
Y/N turned back to look at Yang Yang one last time.
' I'll never forget you and I'll probably never move on. ' She thought to herself.
After Yang Yang finished the story, he grabbed the nearest soju bottle and downed the remaining of its contents.
" Thank goodness we don't have any schedules tomorrow. " Kun muttered to himself.
" So that's why you never take off this earring unless the stylists tell you to. " Ten said to the others.
" You never found this girl? Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat ? " Xiao Jun asked.
" No, she's like a ghost. "
" Get some sleep soon, Yang Yang. " Kun told him.
Yang Yang only nodded, too far down the memory lane to heed Kun's words.
One by one all of them retired back into their own rooms to rest for the day.
' Will I ever meet her again ? " Yang Yang asked himself.
A week has passed since Yang Yang retold his story. All the members avoided triggering his mood. He was still smiley Yang Yang in front of the fans, but he shut himself in his room more often than usual.
Yang Yang and Hendery were messing around in the dance studio while the rest of the members were doing their own things, Kun and Xiao Jun practicing a song, Ten and Winwin choreographing.
Suddenly, their manager popped his head in.
" Guys, I'd like you all to meet the members of SM's girl group that are going to promote in China along side wayv. Lee Soo Man said that you guys have to get to know each other in order to work alongside each other. "
He ushered in a group of girls and shut the door behind him.
Kun, being the dutiful leader he is started introducing the wayv members to the girls as they stood in a line.
Yang Yang was typing away on his phone to tell Jaemin when Kun told him to turn it off.
He slipped his phone into his pocket and looked up.
It's her, Y/N.
The both of them had shocked expressions on their face. Y/N's leader was telling her to introduce herself, but she couldn't hear or see anything else other than Yang Yang.
Yang Yang shifted his gaze to her ears, there it was, his star. Y/N did the same to him, seeing the moon made her breath a sigh of relief.
" Hi Stitch. Lilo's back. "
Yang Yang pulled her into himself, holding her close.
" Don't ever leave me again. "
" Never again. "
The rests of the people in the room carried on with their intros, letting the couple have some time to themselves.
Y/N pulled away slightly and looked into Yang Yang's eyes.
" I still have the Stitch you gave me. "
" I'd like to see it again. "
" Deal. "

Curiosity and Confidence
For @drakgoprompts #10.  Baby time!

--------------------------------
A/N: For the Tumblr prompt #10, Shego having Drakken's baby.
Curiosity and Confidence
Abigail Joy Lipsky studied the unfamiliar objects at eye-level in the store her father had called a gift shop. Most were animals, but there were also trucks, cradles, toy blocks, cartoon characters, and houses. All were made of some kind of painted glass and contained flowers.
"Which one should we buy, Abby Joy?" her father asked as she eyed the objects. When she looked up at him, she saw there were more on shelves higher.
"Um...the kitten," she said, looking at one object styled like a brown, woven basket with a pink ball of yarn on the front and with a white kitten laying on top.
Her father chuckled. "But the new baby is a boy. Maybe he'd like something blue?"
Abby looked at the objects that were blue until one caught her eye. "How about the train?" The stubby finger of the three and a half year old pointed at a blue and white train with green trim. "Aren't those Mama's favorite flowers?"
When she peered up at her father again his ever-bright smile seemed even brighter.
"Yes they are. Can you hand it to me, so I can buy it?"
Abby carefully picked up the heavy painted glass train with hydrangeas planted inside and turned toward her father. He took it from her and her eyes drifted back to the glass kitten on the pink yarn while he made the purchase.
Minutes later they were walking barren halls, the linoleum floor and bumpy walls the same dingy, dirty white color. Her father had entrusted her with the train again, and her eyes moved between it and his long strides as they walked through the unfamiliar place.
"When can I see Mama?" she asked after a minute, a yawn suddenly escaping her throat.
"When we get upstairs," her father answered softly.
The next minutes were a blur even more new and confusing than the gift shop as they stepped into a small room like a closet but with railings on the walls. The doors that had slid open similar to those in the lairs had cooled behind them, and her father pushed one of many numbered buttons on a metal panel.
'Elevator' was the word she was turning over in her mind but couldn't quite grasp amid her father trying to explain it while the floor seemed to move. Her father's cell phone suddenly ringing didn't help matters either.
"Hello, Mother? Right now? Okay, we're in the elevator."
The cell phone was flipped closed, pocketed, and then suddenly the train in Abby's hands was taken away and before she could process it she was being held under her father's arm.
"You'll have to wait with Grandma for a little while, sweetie. Mama is having the baby now."
"But you said when we got upstairs..." Abby protested quietly, unable to remember the last time she had seen her mother.
"I know, but the hospital won't let you in while the baby is being born."
The elevator doors slid open and revealed a new hallway with lots of sounds and people moving through it. Abby watched all of it in her distraction, taking in the new environment until the familiar red hair of her grandmother caught her eye.
"Oh, Drew! She's at ten, and the doctor is in such a hurry, you might miss it!"
"Take Abby," the toddler felt her father's voice above her as her grandmother took her in her arms. She watched the train being placed in the chair next to her grandmother, and then with the sound of a door opening and closing, her father was gone.
"What did you buy for your new baby brother Abigail?"
The familiar voice of her grandmother calmed the small girl's nerves, and she picked up the heavy object with hydrangeas planted in it to show off.
"A train. These are Mama's favorite flowers."
Her grandmother smiled, the corners of her eyes crinkling behind her green-tinted glasses.
"That's wonderful! You're so smart, my Abigail!"
Her black curls were ruffled, and she peered past her grandmother at the door she guessed her father had vanished through.
"When do I get to see the baby?"
"He isn't born yet. And we might still have to wait awhile after that." Abby found herself tucked against the softness of her grandmother and encouraged to lay her head against her chest. "You should try to take a nap, sweetie."
A nap was the last thing that Abby wanted, but she let her questions still as there were too many and she didn't quite have the words for them. She didn't understand why she hadn't seen her mother in so long, and why she couldn't now when it had been promised.
A sudden scream in a familiar voice startled Abby in her grandmother's lap. She found herself being placed on her feet, her grandmother taking her hand and standing up, and beginning to pull her away from the door and the chair where her baby brother's train still sat.
"Let's go for a walk," her grandmother said. Abby watched anxiously as the door and the train grew further away in her sight.
"You did this to me! I hate you!"
Drakken only smiled as his wife's sharp fingernails dug into the back of his hand. It was a familiar picture, except the first time there had been no angry declarations. Only anxious tears, when even to the last minute they hadn't been certain everything would be okay. But they had been, and this time Shego had been more willing to undergo tests to make sure nothing went wrong along the way. They expected a healthy baby boy to make his entrance into the world...very soon, given the doctor's apparent hurry.
His free hand brushed Shego's hair off of her sweaty brow as she continued to scream. He would probably have bleeding nail marks in his other like the last time, but it was a small price to pay. With the demands of the doctor that she push, and his own softer encouragements earning only enraged glares and demands he shut up, he knew it wouldn't be long before he met his son.
Finally, with a long ear-piercing scream that gave way to gasps, the familiar cries of an infant rang through the room as Shego collapsed back into the hospital bed. Drakken placed a lingering kiss on Shego's temple, not moving until the wrapped baby was placed on her chest. She finally released her death grip on his hand to cradle the small bundle and he looked between her almost delirious face and the small, crying one of their son.
Her happy gasps brought tears of joy, and when their eyes met he couldn't stop his own from flowing as well. She gave him a knowing look, and their smiling lips met in a kiss as his hand covered hers at the back of the baby's head.
Abby woke up to her father gently shaking her shoulder and calling her name.
"Abby Joy? Come meet your baby brother," he said softly, a huge happy smile on his face.
She stretched in grandmother's arms and found herself in her father's a moment later, and she relaxed tiredly into his embrace.
"Do I get to see Mama?"
"Yes, she's here too."
They walked the halls back to where the door and the train were, and Abby was glad to see her grandmother pick up the object with flowers planted inside. And then the mysterious door was opened.
Abby ignored the other people wearing blue, the large machines, and the sounds that came from them for the familiar sight of her mother smiling.
"Mama!" she called, lifting her head from her father's shoulder.
"Hi AJ," her mother said. Her voice sounded tired. "I missed you."
Abby looked briefly at the unfamiliar shirt her mother wore, but her eyes were drawn to the bundle that she held.
"Is that the baby?" she asked as her father walked her around the bed.
"Yes. This is your brother, Drew Jr.," her mother said.
Abby peered down from her father's arms and saw a reddish-pink wrinkled face. At least she thought it was a face. It definitely had a nose, and the eyes were closed and didn't seem to have lashes. But there were dark eyebrows and some small, dark hairs on the head under the blanket.
She wasn't quite sure what to make of her baby brother.
"Can I play with him?"
"Not yet," her father said above her.
"He's beautiful, Shego!" Abby's grandmother said.
"Thanks, Mom."
"Mama," Abby said, suddenly remembering, "we bought a present for the baby."
Her small arms reached for the train, but her grandmother moved closer to present the object.
"It's a blue train, because he's a boy, and it has your favorite flowers!"
"I love it AJ," her mother said with a yawn.
"Mother." Abby turned her gaze up to her father's chin at hearing his familiar tone. "I think you and Abby should get some sleep."
"I wanna stay with Mama!" Abby cried.
"I know sweetie," her father addressed her, "but Mama is very tired and has to stay in the hospital tonight. You and Grandma get some sleep, and when you wake up, Mama and me and your baby brother will be there."
"Drew Jr.," her mother corrected. Abby watched her father blush.
She whimpered in protest as she was handed off to her grandmother, the train left on the large windowsill of the hospital room. But a yawn left her mouth seconds after she saw another one leave her mother's. Her head sank to her grandmother's shoulder, and she watched the smiles of her parents until the door closed.
"He's perfect!" Drakken said in a gleeful hush, his index finger lightly rubbing the tiny ones of the baby in Shego's arms. Suddenly, Shego's hand grabbed his and she stared at the small row of cuts on the back.
"Oh...I'm so sorry!" she said, looking up at him anxiously.
The cuts stung, but nothing could wipe the smile from his face. "It's all right."
He pulled one of the visitor chairs up next to the bed and sat, leaning on his elbow on the mattress and moving nearer the small, sleeping form on Shego's chest. His eyes moved up to his wife's face as she yawned again.
"It's almost midnight. Go ahead and sleep."
"I want to look at him..." Shego protested softly.
Drakken's smile grew. "Me too."
He folded his arm and lay his head down atop it on the mattress, one hand lain across the baby while Shego held his other with the cuts. He watched her eyes begin to slip closed, and then she suddenly startled and looked down at him.
"Oh... I don't hate you," she said, her cheeks coloring.
He grinned. "I know."
"I actually...wouldn't mind you 'doing this to me' again," she said shyly, a question in her eyes as a small smirk reached her lips.
Drakken's eyes sparkled as he gazed back at her and his grin broadened further. A yawn of his own escaped his lips after the long day at the hospital, and he set his eyes back on the sleeping newborn on Shego's chest. He listened as Shego's breathing evened, signaling her slipping away into sleep. And as he stared at their infant child and thought of their daughter headed home with his mother, he couldn't imagine life being any more perfect.

Deck the Aisles
A/N This is a very late Christmas gift for @watchoutforthefanfics, she is a gift that has let me take an extra month to finish this labor of love
Word Count: 6700 words
Warnings: Swearing, Deceit( as Emerson), Remus, a couple of alcohol mentions as well (feel free to let me know if I need to add any)
Relationships: Prinxiety, Logicality, Moceit, Remile(background)
It was 5 in the morning and Virgil Poe was in a Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Who knew how he came to this point in his life, but it kind of sucked. It was Black Friday and Virgil had decided maybe he can get a good deal on a new Crock-Pot for his mother, hers had broken. As he walked through the crowded aisles, he found it, the last crockpot. Speed walking towards it, Virgil realized that someone else was also reaching for it. Virgil grabbed it just before the other man did. As the other man began to reach for the box, Virgil yanked it out of his reach. The two spent a bit of time reaching and grabbing for the crockpot when Virgil realized it really wasn’t worth it. So after deciding this, he handed the man the crockpot and left the store hoping to find one at another store. After going to two other department stores, he found one and went home, wondering about the man he had almost fought for a crockpot. I will probably never see him again and if I do, he most likely won’t remember me.
A week and a half later, Roman Darcy was walking through the mall. He had some more Christmas shopping to do for his mom and his two roommates. He knew Logan wanted a new Rubix’s cube since his old one had been lost by Roman, but Logan doesn’t need to know that. He knew he wanted to get Patton some new fabric and yarn for his side business of selling clothes he made. He got his mom a crockpot already, fought a man for it, but knew she might like some nice chocolates from the candy shop, so he walked over to buy some. As he walked out, Roman noticed a flash of purple and looked up surprised to see the man from Bed Bath and Beyond. The purple clothed man had apparently sensed someone staring at him as he looked up from his phone and looked around. Turning his eyes and head, he finally noticed Roman.
The thoughts of both men were along the lines of “FUCK!!! Does he recognize me? Shit, I think he does.”
Both were having a mental breakdown, but Virgil is quite used to them so he was able to be done quicker than Roman and began to profusely apologize for his immature behavior while Roman kept trying to reassure him that it was fine. Eventually, Virgil heard Roman and began to breathe a little bit deeper.
Then Roman opened his mouth, “How about if I buy you lunch since I got the crockpot?”
And all hell broke loose as Virgil began to argue. “Hell no. I am buying your lunch since I started the “fight”.”
Well, Roman was passionate and couldn’t back down if he tried and said, “You gave me the crockpot, I am returning the favor!”
This continued for a few minutes and while there wasn’t any yelling, people around could tell they were irritated with each other. Eventually, Virgil’s anxiety kicked in because people were taking notice of him, which is not good, and said, “Fine you can pay for lunch, let’s just go now.”
So, Roman took Virgil to Wendy’s in the mall food court and told Virgil to order whatever. Once he had ordered, Virgil decided to send a text to his roommate that he would be out later than expected and that he would see him later.
After the two obtained their food, they found a table and sat down. The conversation began with Virgil thanking Roman and Roman brushed it off, it was not a problem for him. After they began to eat, Roman finally sparked a conversation, “So what do you do for a living?”
Virgil swallowed his food and responded, “I am a therapist at Dr. Picani’s office. I also will do art and writing commissions for people for a bit of extra cash. You?”
Roman smiled and answered “I run a children’s theater, direct the plays, and offer art classes, often in painting. I also act a little bit myself.”
“Cool. I used to do tech for that theater a few years ago. I had to stop after I picked up commissioning and Dr. Picani’s business expanded,” Virgil said as he remembered the fun he had doing lights and sound. He also remembered the cute assistant director who also had to help backstage and help with the writing.
“Oh, that’s really cool. Yeah, I have been working at that theater for close to a decade now. I had apprenticed as an assistant director so that when the previous owner and director retired, I would have experience and could take over,” Roman shared.
At that moment, his words sunk in and were comprehended as Virgil realized, “Holy Shit this is the guy I thought was cute when I did tech.”
As Virgil quietly continued his meltdown, he really looked at Roman and if he was blatantly honest with himself, he would say he wasn’t disappointed but Virgil also knew that this “attraction” was purely an appearance-based one so he didn’t feel flustered as he said, “Yeah, we worked together. You did backstage while I ran sound and lights.”
The realization seemed to dawn on Roman as he said, “Oh that’s cool. I believe that I remember our shows running smoothly when you were in the tech tower. I hope you can eventually find time to help us again as we could really use the help.”
All Virgil responded with was an almost optimistic, “We shall see.”
The two finished their lunch with very little conversation and bid their farewells, Virgil heading to a store and Roman to his cousin’s coffee shop.
Roman walked into the coffee shop and greeted his cousin who was working behind the counter and said, “Remy, holy heckerino you will not believe what just happened. Do you remember that techie that I had a small crush on?”
“I remember a techie that you had stated ‘He is the light of my life, the night and his dark clothes have hidden him from me. I have gazed upon the face of an angel’ and some other romantic shit. So if we are talking about the same techie, that was no small crush,” Remy responded with, sarcasm soaking his tone.
“Did I really say that?” Roman questioned.
“Yes. I have the whole speech recorded on my phone if you wish to hear it all.”
“Not preferably, why do you have a recording?” Roman asked curiously, expecting a zinger.
“Two reasons, to laugh at you and if you get married, for that techie to hear you gushing about him,” Remy replied, chuckling as Roman started to pout, “Anyway, so what does he have to do with anything? I thought he stopped doing tech work for some reason.”
“He did, but I recently bumped into him and had lunch with him,” Roman said, attempting to be nonchalant.
“Oh, okay. Did you get contact information for him at least?” Remy questioned, already knowing the answer ready to exit from his disaster cousin’s mouth.
“No, I did not get his phone number or address or Tumblr or Snapchat or anything,” Roman wailed out, sounding like he was 4 and denied a second cookie.
Remy just mumbled something about a disaster and shooed Roman out before any customers came in.
Virgil arrived at his apartment complex and walked into his apartment and in an instant, Virgil was bombarded with questions and accusations. His roommate, Emerson, was apparently curious about where Virgil had been, that or worried. They had just moved a week before Thanksgiving and Emerson was definitely a mom friend who wanted to make sure his friend was okay and able to not get lost, which is commendable but annoying. So, after explaining what had happened, Virgil volunteered to go down and get the mail, since he had forgotten to.
Roman pulled his car into his parking spot and got his mailbox key out. As he walked to the mailboxes, he swore he saw that dark-clad angel of a human that vaguely looked like Virgil. As the dark cloud got closer, Roman realized it was Virgil. So he decides to strike up a conversation, “Hey,”
“Hey yourself,” Virgil replied, snickering.
“Stop laughing at me. I am trying here. I swear everyone is mean to the hot person in the area,” Roman said jokingly.
“Well, I mean, I could help you get better at it, the whole talking to people. We could exchange contact information,” Virgil said.
“I mean, sure. Give me your phone,” Roman said, taking his out and opening the contacts app.
“Man someone is pushy,” Virgil stated, doing the same thing.
“So, I didn’t know you lived here,” Roman said while entering his number.
“I would certainly hope, I don’t just give my address out and I would hope you weren’t stalking me,” Virgil said sarcastically, “But in all honesty, I moved here about a week before Thanksgiving, So I haven’t lived here long.”
After the two exchanged phones again, Virgil got his mail and left.
Roman watched him go before grabbing his own mail and heading to his apartment. Once he had walked in, Roman's roommate, Patton, bombarded him with questions on where he was and what he had been doing. So he began to explain what had happened.
“So, you worried me because you were making a new friend,” Patton said cooly despite the obvious frustration in his features, “You said you would be home by 1:30 at the latest, it is 3:30. I was concerned and stressed.”
“I’m sorry Pat, I had meant to send a text and must have forgotten. I didn't mean to make you worry,” Roman said, very obviously upset from his mistake.
“It is fine, I keep forgetting we aren’t college students and that you can take care of yourself. I am sorry I got upset, I had no right,” Patton said, realizing his mistake. It was sometimes hard for him to let go since he lived through college with Roman and his occasional dumb decision and saw him live through the pain because of how easy he loves. But he knew he needed to let go.
Patton walked into the kitchen, where his boyfriend Logan was, looking at options for dinner. As soon as Patton had entered the small kitchen area, his boyfriend looked up at him and smiled. The two hugged, both knew Patton was trying to work on his “smothering” tendencies.
“Go ask him how his lunch went. I know you don’t want to be overbearing but I think he will want to talk about it,” Logan said, attempting to comfort his partner. When he saw Patton attempting to protest, he cut him off, saying, “No buts, he knows you didn’t mean any harm and I know how curious you are. I may not be good at emotions but I am good at reading body language, he wanted to tell you. Go talk to him.”
Patton nodded and went to find Roman in their small apartment.
Roman heard a knock on his door and looked to see Patton in the doorway, so Roman let him in.
“So, how was your lunch date?” Patton queried.
Seeing the opportunity to mend things, Roman told Patton everything, including the almost fight on Black Friday.
When he was done, his friend said, “Well we have a game night in a couple of days and you should invite him.”
“What if he says no?” Roman asked, obviously anxious.
“I doubt he will, and if he has a roommate then invite said roommate as well. You said he was new here right? Say it is a welcome to the building event,” Patton said, giving Roman not only an excuse but a cookiecutter way to deal with his nerves about asking him over.
“Alright Patton, thank you,” Roman said, gracious he had such an intelligent friend.
After Patton had left to help Logan with dinner, Roman pulled his phone out to text Virgil.
Me: Hey, this is Roman, so my roommates and I are having a game night and since you are new, Patton thought of inviting you and your roommate(s)
Emo Knightmare: I know who you are, dingus. When is it?
Me: friday @ 8
Emo Knightmare: I will ask my roommate and get back to you
Virgil got up off the couch and went to the kitchen to start making dinner, deciding that spaghetti was a good option. As Virgil began boiling the water and getting out the sauce ingredients, his roommate Emerson walked in. Once he saw what Virgil was doing, he joined by helping with prepping the vegetables. As Emerson was cutting the tomatoes, Virgil cleared his throat and said, “So remember the person I was eating lunch with today?”
“Oh, you mean the one that totally didn’t cause me to worry?” Emerson asked, obviously remembering who he was.
“Yeah, well, he lives here and invited us to a game night on Friday at 8 at his apartment with his roommates,” Virgil said, “I was going to go, but the invitation was open to you as well so… up to you.”
“As long as I am not busy. Besides, I want to give this boy a piece of my mind,” Emerson responded.
“You are such a dad, Em,” Virgil responded.
“Shut up. At least I can take care of myself beyond basic skills,” Emerson said.
“Do not even speak of self-care to me, Mr. I only eat when I am forced,” Virgil snapped, enjoying the banter.
“That’s you, dumbass,” Emerson stated, correct of course.
“Shut up and cut the vegetables,” Virgil said, ending the banter.
After the two made and ate dinner, Virgil went to his room and texted Roman that they should be able to make it Friday. While Virgil’s intent was to simply send that text, it didn’t end there, he failed miserably. He failed because he ended up texting Roman until midnight.
On Friday night, Virgil and Emerson walked over to Roman's apartment with brownies and some chips. When the door opened, Virgil didn't see Roman, but a man with freckles, glasses,  dark curly hair, and pale skin. The said man began to introduce himself, "Hi, my name is Patton Campbell," then he opened the door and introduced the other two near the door, "And this is Logan and Roman Darcy."
"Hi, I am Virgil Poe and this is my roommate Emerson Croft," Virgil responded, gesturing towards his friend as he introduced him.
Then the tall man with glasses, presumably Logan, spoke up and said, "Are you by some chance related to Edgar Allen Poe's cousin since the man himself didn't have his own children?"
"Sadly, it's not very likely but you definitely know your stuff," Virgil replied, impressed.
After that comment, Patton opened the door wider to let in his guests. As they walked in, Patton studied them. Virgil was lanky, of Asian descent, with dark hair that was dyed purple. Emerson was tall with light brown hair and what appeared to be scars on the left side of his face and neck. As he stared, Emerson asked with a flirty smile, "Like what you see?"
Patton looked at his feet, feeling the blood rush to his face as he fumbled to say, "Sorry I was, uh, I was curious about your scars. I apologize for being rude."
Emerson chuckled and said, "I was just messing with you. If you're really curious, when I was a kid there was a fire in our kitchen and I ended up getting burned. It left more than these scars on my face and neck, I had lots of therapy but I'm good now. If anything, the scars remind me not to be dumb."
Emerson watched Patton look at him with pity? No, more like empathy. It confused him but he didn't question it. Emerson walked into the apartment and looked at the roommates of Patton. Logan was tall and fairly thin, he wore dark square-framed glasses that were similar to the common nerd glasses. Roman was only about an inch shorter than Logan, likely Hispanic due to his darker skin and accent, and had a more organized curl to his dark hair.
Emerson walked in and deposited the pan of brownies and bag of chips on the counter where Logan had gestured for him to put them.
After the five shared a dinner of pizza, they moved to the living room with snack food and board games. After going through several games including Fluxx, Uno, Sorry, and a very long game of Life, Emerson shared that he had brought his own game to share with the group called "Coup". He pulled the game out from under the brownie pan and took it out to the laundry room.
After he finished explaining how the game was played, Patton spoke up and queried, "So, you're supposed to lie?"
"Well, it makes the game more fun if I'm truly honest," Emerson responded.
"Ok, but how are you fine with that morally?" Patton challenged.
"Simple, I don't necessarily see a problem with small lies. Honesty can be nice for some things, but to be fully honest is a delusion set by society," Emerson said, cool as an ice cube.
"But how will people know if you're being honest about something? If you're known to consistently lie, people can't trust you," Patton challenged.
"If you truly know someone, you know when they lie about it and I know plenty of people who trust me, I mean look at Virgil," Emerson stated, continuing the discussion.
" I see your point. Can we agree to disagree and maybe discuss this later?" Patton requested.
Emerson smiled and responded, "Sure, get some good points ready. Alright, let's play Coup."
As Patton played Coup and got the hang of it and lying, he sensed feelings forming for Emerson and very readily decided to bury them, him being polyamorous has only caused the problem in the past.
Later that night, after Virgil and Emerson had gone home, Logan approached his boyfriend to talk to him about their guests. He cleared his throat and said, "So, I'm a figurative fan of our guests. Also, I think Roman might be falling for Virgil."
Patton chuckled as he said, "Yeah, you're not alone in either of those thoughts. I liked them, Virgil was fun and Emerson was interesting. If we do the Christmas party I'd like to invite them."
"That would be enjoyable," at that moment Logan looked at Patton and queried, "Hey are you alright?"
"Yeah, just a little drained," Patton lied, knowing he had no right to judge Emerson for lying.
Logan was aware that Patton was lying, but also knew that he wouldn't push, and stated, " Then let's get to bed dear."
That night both had a troubled night's sleep.
Virgil did not, that's because he was up late texting Roman. He went to bed around 2 which is not abnormal for him and he didn't have to work until 1 so it was fine. He had fun at the game night and would have definitely wanted Patton and Em together if it wasn't obvious that Patton was with Logan, so not likely. But then again what did he know. Virgil was truly grateful that Picani had hired him and didn't always have him come to work early since their office was still smaller but it was nice. As he walked in, he waved to their receptionist Elliot and he walked back to his office to look at his scheduled patients.
After a long day of back to back sessions, Virgil finally closed the office for the day at 9 pm. As he walked out to his car, he saw that Emerson had texted him saying that he had ordered pizza and needed Virgil to pick it up. Since Virgil had eaten a late lunch and no dinner yet, he was very grateful his roommate had a similar schedule.
Virgil arrived at his apartment and carried the pizza in, calling for Emerson. He walked in as Virgil sat the pizza on the dining room table. As the two sat down to eat, Emerson decided to spark a conversation, "So, how was the office?"
"It was nice, good steady stream and I got to meet a couple of new clients that I hope to continue seeing us," Virgil answered, it was pretty obvious how much he cared about these patients, "How was managing today? Any new Karens?"
"Thankfully no. Only interacted with two today and they weren't the worst," Emerson responded.
The rest of the pizza was eaten in a quiet space with little small talk made, it was comfortable and they were okay with it.
After Virgil finished his share of the pizza, he loaded his dishes and went to his room to work on a couple of commissions, he had to pay off his loans somehow. While he was working on one, he received a text from Roman. Virgil checked it and told Roman he was working on a commission so texting would be scarce. A few minutes later Roman responded and said he could Facetime if Virgil agreed. Virgil figured it couldn’t cause any harm, so he called Roman.
Roman answered Virgil's call, not knowing what to expect but was still definitely thrown off guard. Virgil was in slacks and a purple dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and his hair wasn't falling over his eyes, the only makeup that Roman could see him wearing was the foundation. Roman was surprised and definitely swooning.
"Hello, Sir Roman, like what ya see?" Virgil teased when he saw Roman was starting to stare.
Roman snapped into reality and fumbled to say, "I'm just surprised to see you looking so professional."
"Oh I take offense to that Princey, better watch out or I may start crying. Wouldn't want to be the cause of gay hate crime now, would we? " Virgil teased.
"First off, I'm not straight so take notes. Secondly, aw pobrecito. Go cry me a river, build yourself a bridge, and get over it," Roman countered.
Virgil was a little bit impressed but Roman didn't need to know, it would go straight to his ego. As he turned back to his tablet as he said, "we can keep talking but I want to get this commission finished, so I'm not ignoring you, just working."
Roman chuckled as he countered, "Now who is a homophobe?"
Virgil very lightly blushed but his it well and responded with a simple 'touché'.
To say they had a productive phone call would be lying so hard that Emerson would even call bullshit. Roman mostly stared at the cute Virgil and occasionally made small talk while Virgil mostly paid attention to his tablet. Roman definitely wasn't complaining, that just meant he could watch and slowly fall in love like he was living in a fucking fanfiction.
After a while, Roman decided to say good night so he could sleep since he had to be at the theater earlier because they had a performance tomorrow. When Virgil heard this, he asked, “When is it? I’ll come to see it if Dr. Picani is cool with it.”
“Oh, we are doing two performances. The first is at 4:00 and the second is at 8:00,” Roman answered.
“Aren’t you kind of overworking them? I mean, these are passionate theatre kids, they put everything into their performances and you are making them do two performances on the same day and a mere ten days before Christmas. I may have never acted, but I also did tech and I have a feeling these kids are going to crash,” Virgil said, clearly passionate about these kids and their health.
“I get that, however, we couldn’t find two days in a row that worked for everyone and they were all cool with it. On top of that, I am providing them with dinner at about 7:00 and also have the backroom set up for them to nap. I am going to take care of these kids, I promise,” Roman said, trying to assure Virgil.
“Well, on Sundays I work until about 5:00, so I can come help with feeding those kids and maybe go back to the tech tower,” Virgil responded.
Soon after that point, Roman hung up then went to get ready for bed. As he stared at himself in the mirror, Roman began to realize that he was starting to feel romantic feelings for Virgil.  Not that Roman was necessarily complaining, but it was unexpected. Then again, Roman was always the romantic one. Roman went bed, contemplating what he was going to do new feelings.
Virgil was walking out to his car after work and got in as he received a text from Roman. It was telling Virgil where to get the pizza from.
Virgil walked into the theater with the pizzas and was met with a slightly frantic Roman. Virgil walked in, set the pizzas down and decided to calm Roman down. "What the fuck is wrong, Roman?" Virgil questioned, slightly concerned.
"Our mic guy got sick like 20 minutes ago so I need someone to work mics and by golly, I can't get anyone to help," Roman responded, starting to breathe like a french bulldog that has been walking for more than 10 minutes or hyperventilating.
"I can run mice so if you don't start breathing normally in the next ten seconds, you're bloodline will end," Virgil threatened.
"My bloodline is going to end because my twin and I are both gay so you made an empty threat," Roman countered, breathing deeply.
"Ok, that's fair. So tech tower still the same?" Virgil questioned.
"Wait, you're actually going to help me?" Roman asked, dumbfounded.
"Yes, you idiot. Now, what do I need to know?" Virgil asked, itching to be in his place.
"We don't need music, just mics. I'll send a backstage person up to help with mic checks. You are literally a lifesaver," Roman answered gratefully.
Virgil ran to the staircase that led to the tech tower, ready to be back in his element. Virgil always knew if being a therapist didn't work out, he would've done tech for theaters.
Mic checks happened and cast lists were given and before he knew it, Roman was on stage and introducing the play. And Virgil would deny it to his grave, but he definitely thought Roman was pretty cute with the light shining on his face and Roman's passionate tone introducing the play.
After the play, Roman profusely thanked Virgil who shrugged it off. The two decided they were both tired and Virgil helped Roman clean up and they headed home.
Roman walked into his apartment and was bombarded with questions on how the play went, if someone showed up to help with sound, and who did. Roman answered them with ease. Despite it being close to midnight, Logan and Patton decided to plan their Christmas eve party. Patton started with invites, “So who do we want to come?”
Roman started, “Well, I think we should invite Virgil and Emerson, along with Remus, since we haven’t seen him in a while.”
Logan nodded in agreement and said, “I also want to invite my cousin, Remy and his fiance Emile.”
Patton nodded as he wrote them down and asked, “What about Thomas? Also, do Virgil or Emerson have partners they would like to bring?”
“Virgil is single,” Roman chimed in.
“So is Emerson,” Logan added.
“Cool, quick question, Logan is your information on Emerson accurate, I just want to make sure,” Patton added.
“Yes, I saw him at work dealing with, what I believe Roman would call, ‘a Karen’. Afterward, we struck up a conversation about life and I happened to ask him,” Logan replied, confident in the information given to him. Logan also pretended not to see the light in Patton’s eyes when said information was supported.
“Ok, so what about Thomas?” Patton questioned since he had never gotten a direct answer.
Roman looked offended as he said, “Of course, why would we not invite him?”
“I didn’t want to assume. So we are at nine people, are there any others that we want to invite?” Patton questioned.
“I think that Thomas can bring a couple of people if he wants, he is your brother Patton, you talk to him. I don’t care who comes, I trust you guys,” Logan said, hoping that Patton saw the deeper meaning in the statement about trust. Logan thinks he did, as realization dawned on Patton soon after Logan said it.
The three finished planning quickly and afterward, Logan dragged Patton down next to him so they could cuddle. After a bit, Logan finally decided to bring up the figurative elephant in the room, he cleared his throat as a warning and started with a question, “Patton are you okay?”
“Of course, why would you ask that?” Patton asked, defensively.
Logan sighed at the lie and said, “Because I know you are lying. I am not going to force you to tell me but I really wish you would.”
Patton got really quiet as he realized he had been caught doing what he had criticized Emerson for. After a bit, he finally said, “I am polyamorous and I am pretty sure that I am falling for Emerson.”
Logan breathed a sigh of relief and said, “I am glad you told me. Now, we need to talk about this. Do you want to pursue a relationship with him?”
Patton nervously chuckled as he asked, “You are okay with this part of me?”
“Of course, I love all of you, even what society thinks is unconventional. Now can we talk about this?” Logan asked.
“Sure and to answer your previous question, yes I do, if he wants to,” Patton admitted.
“Can we discuss boundaries then?” Logan asked.
“Absolutely, I am willing to listen and discuss,” Patton answered.
Logan smiled at how excited Patton was for the obvious support that he had never been given, then he got a little mad about Patton’s previous partners. He brushed that off and said, “It’s obviously not a lot and I think if Emerson agrees, we still need to talk to him. For me, all I ask is, if you guys ever do it, use protection, please don’t make fun of me or gossip, and if you feel that one of us isn’t working, don’t be afraid to talk or end a relationship, even if you’re guilty because it is with me.”
Patton nodded and said, “I can definitely handle those. Two questions, Do you want this to be a 3-way relationship? And do you care if I talk about him?”
“For now and this is subject to change, no. Secondly, I don’t care and if it makes you feel better, I will let you know if I get uncomfortable,” Logan answered.
December 22, 2019, will be forever ingrained into Virgil’s brain, to be specific, 11:32 pm on December 22, 2019. That is because it is the Virgil realized that he was falling in love with Roman Darcy. It was a normal night of texting and suddenly the man decides he can just sleepily Facetime Virgil. Naturally, Virgil answered and was met with a freaking cute, sleepy Roman and it was over for Virgil. Roman had called to invite Virgil to a Christmas eve party and Virgil agreed. Afterward, Roman proceeded to ramble about Beetlejuice the Musical and how it really fits Virgil’s aesthetic for about fifteen minutes until Virgil says he needs to sleep because he has work early in the morning. After Roman said goodbye and ended the call, Virgil did not sleep, he wrestled his emotions.
It was Christmas eve and Emerson and Virgil were knocking on the door. The door was opened by Logan and when he questioned why they were here so early, Emerson answered, “Patton texted me to come a bit early and I decided to bring Virgil along because I can. You can send him home if necessary.” Virgil smacked Emerson’s arm with that statement and Logan chuckled.
“Patton is in the kitchen Emerson, Virgil, we could get to know each other better,” Logan offered.
“Well Mr. Darcy, you drive a hard bargain but I shall accept,” Virgil drawled.
The two moved to the living room while Emerson walked to the kitchen only to be met by an obviously nervous Patton. Patton dragged Emerson to the hall and back by a bathroom, took a deep breath, and started, “There are two things I need to tell you. Firstly, I am polyamorous. Secondly, I am starting to care about you in a romantic sense.”
“I like you too, but what about Logan?” Emerson questioned.
“Logan and I have already had a basic conversation about this and if you want to do this, he wants to talk to both of us,” Patton answered.
“Ok, let’s talk about this first,” Emerson said.
While those two were talking, Logan and Virgil were discussing the party and who would be there.
“Well, Roman’s twin, Remus will be there, Patton’s brother Thomas, my cousin Remy, along with Remy’s fiance, and possibly a couple of other people,”  Logan said.
“Wait. Is Remy not Roman’s cousin too? I assumed you two were related,” Virgil responded, confused.
“Well, Roman and I are stepbrothers, my father married their mother when I was younger and adopted Roman and Remus. They took the Darcy last name. Roman claims Remy as an honorary cousin though,” Logan answered.
“Oh, that’s fun. Has Roman always been this extra or stubborn?” Virgil asked.
“Sadly,” Logan sighed, “Although, some would say that I am the same as him.”
“I guess it’s definitely possible. But I have only seriously talked to you like twice,” Virgil said.
“Yeah, that’s fair,” Logan admitted, “Anyways, this party is more like a get-together. We get pizza and snack food, some alcohol, unspiked punch, and other beverages. We occasionally play party games and such. It is pretty laid back.”
“That’s good. Did we need to bring a contribution?” Virgil asked.
“No. We are good,” Logan answered.
Right after Logan said that Roman emerged from his room. He was obviously unaware that Virgil was there and Roman was not at his finest. Logan chuckled and when this happened, Roman exclaimed, “What are you laughing at, Jester?”
“Well, Virgil is here and you are quite obviously unaware. I just find that amusing,” Logan said bluntly.
“Alright, Microsoft Nerd. I will have you know that even if Virgil were here, which he isn’t, I wouldn’t care,” Roman exclaimed, still not looking in the living room.
“Hey Princey,” Virgil said, teasing Roman.
Logan would treasure the look on Roman’s face forever and hoped he never forgot it because it was a figurative gift.
Soon after Roman’s cruel jumpscare, he noticed that Patton and Emerson walked into the living room and whispered to Logan about something. Roman decided to grab Virgil, not literally of course, however, he called, “Hey Virgil, I need to show you something in the hallway.” Virgil got up and followed Roman, obviously reading the situation.
The two went to Roman’s room, looked around at Roman’s stuff, bonded, pined hopelessly, and shared memes until the party.
At the Christmas Eve party, Virgil mingled with the people at the party. He met Remus, who was interesting, Patton’s brother Thomas, and a few of Thomas’ friends. He also found out that his boss, Dr. Picani, was engaged to Logan’s cousin Remy; not that Virgil didn’t know that the doctor was engaged or the name of said fiance, but Virgil just never connected the dots. Turns out that Remy works in a coffee shop where Virgil tends to get coffee. He also enjoyed some food and by later in the evening, Virgil was a bit tipsy but still in control of his mind and body, just a less anxious and inhibited. So when Virgil ended up under the mistletoe with Roman on accident near the end of the party, he didn’t resist as much as he might have if sober when Roman said they should keep the tradition of kissing. So they did and as soon as Virgil realized what he had done, he calmly moved on and went to tell his roommate he was leaving early. So after interrupting Patton and Emerson and alerting his roommate where he was going, he left, calmly and quietly.
Once he was in the safety of his own apartment, Virgil broke down. He started to hyperventilate and cry. He felt like he was dying. Somewhere in his brain, he thought of his grounding techniques, and by think of them, he means he saw the paper on the wall that Emerson had made him tape there in case Virgil had a panic attack alone. While he would never admit that his roommate was right, Virgil was grateful that it was there. After Virgil calmed down, he decided to shower and get some sleep that he desperately needs.
Roman was majorly confused. Not just the normal amount of confusion that he dealt with, that most people experience, but majorly confused. He figured that Virgil wasn’t more than a little tipsy since he had only drunk a little bit of champagne. Maybe Virgil was more inebriated than originally thought or maybe Roman was wrong about Virgil liking him. He would never truly know unless he approached Virgil. However, he couldn’t do that since he couldn’t find Virgil. Roman had planned this the night of the play. His plan had backfired and he needed to do damage control. Roman looked around, asked Emerson, and found out that Virgil had left and gone back to his apartment. Roman decided to listen to the logical voice in his brain and wait until the next day to talk to Virgil, so he mingled until everyone was home and went to bed, troubled.
Emerson was very happy, he’d even go as far as ecstatic. The guy he likes is attracted to him too. They are going together. Things were looking up for him. Everything except Virgil, and in turn, Roman. The thing is, Emerson knows that Virgil likes Roman, he has known for a while because Virgil is not really inconspicuous. Emerson also saw what happened last night under the mistletoe and figured that Roman felt the same. So Emerson sat at the table, awaiting Virgil.
When Virgil emerged from his bedroom, ragged and tired, Emerson knew his friend had a rough night dealing with everything. Pushing coffee towards him, Emerson said, “You look like you need it.” He knew Virgil would talk about it when he was ready.
Virgil sipped some coffee, cleared his throat and said, “I made a major mistake as you probably saw.”
“Well, Patton just texted me sharing Roman’s state. Not great, fix that,” Emerson aggressively shared.
“Why do I have to do that now? It’s still raw and how do you know it’s my fault?” Virgil asked defensively.
“It isn’t just your fault but some of the fault is on you. You are an adult, you need to communicate with him and fix this. At least before the new year,” Emerson parented.
“Fiiiiiiiiiiinnnneeeeeeee,” Virgil groaned. Virgil did intend on talking to Roman, just not today. He would tomorrow since Roman likely wanted to spend Christmas with his friends and family. So tomorrow would work for him.
Little did Virgil know, that tomorrow would turn into the next day, and the day after that, and the day after that, until almost a week later he saw Roman getting mail and decided that he needed to say something. Clearing his throat, Virgil spoke up, “Hey Roman.”
Roman turned around and saw the man who had captured his heart and ripped it to pieces. Close to tears, he responded with a simple hey.
Virgil could tell that Roman was upset and said, “We definitely need to talk. Are you free now?”
“Not sure I want to talk to you honestly. However, I figured it would happen eventually so let me text my friends and let them know so they don’t worry,” Roman agreed reluctantly.
“Ok, I need to do the same,” Virgil replied.
They both sent their texts then decided to walk through the walkway in their apartment complex. Roman didn’t want to be the first to say something but in the time that Roman had gotten to know Virgil, he knew Virgil wouldn’t start.
“So about Christmas Eve,” Virgil started.
Ok so Roman was wrong, he could accept that. In fact, more than happy to accept it right now. So Roman continued with a simple reply of Christmas eve.
“I shouldn’t have taken advantage of you, I felt and still do feel really bad about it,” Virgil blurted.
“What? Why do you think you were taking advantage of me?” Roman yelled, questioning what the heck had gotten into his emo nightmare.
“I had seen you with alcohol and assumed. Plus, who would want to be with me,” Virgil reasoned.
“Firstly, you also drank alcohol. Secondly, I want to be with you,” Roman confessed.
“You barely know me,” Virgil countered.
“I know enough, we can get to know each other when dating,” Roman argued.
“I am not sure you would want to stay with me if you knew me and I don’t need to get hurt,” Virgil admitted.
“So, you don’t know that, you obviously like me a lot and don’t know enough about me. No one wants to hurt but it is part of life, once we can accept that, life gets easier. And to paraphrase the 11th Doctor, happiness is important because it can help with sadness later. I would prefer to have happy memories even if we don’t work out,” Roman said, wanting to reach this boy that he had grown to love.
“Can I think about this and let you know on New Year’s?” Virgil questioned.
“Of course, you can even let me know at the New Year’s  Eve party,” Roman offered.
Virgil gave a simple alright as he walked back with Roman. Roman was happy he had talked with Virgil and figured some stuff out.
Roman walked into his apartment, lighter and happier than he had originally been. Patton could tell that something good had happened. As he sat in the living room with his boyfriend who had ended up falling asleep during their movie session, Patton smiled and texted his other boyfriend that things may have worked out.
As Virgil walked into his apartment Emerson decided to speak up with a comment, “Maybe I should stop sending you to get the mail. You take a long time.”
Virgil jumped a bit then looked and saw it was his idiotic roommate. “Dude, I hate you. I finally talked to Roman, like you suggested. So there you go,” Virgil said.
“Good for you on listening to me, also I knew because Patton texted me thinking some progress was made,” Emerson replied flippantly, “You two finally together because I am sick of watching you two pine for each other.”
“No, we aren’t, I need to think about some stuff first. Also, stop gossiping about me with your boyfriend,” Virgil whined like a teenager.
Virgil left the living room and went to his room to work on commissions and think about his feelings towards Roman and a relationship.
An hour and a half later, Virgil had finished a project and decided what he wanted to do about Roman.
It was New Year’s Eve and Logan was sick of watching his stepbrother try to perfect the arrangement of their alcohol and decorations. He could tell Roman was nervous to hear about Virgil’s decision about a relationship. Of course, Logan knew what Virgil had decided, he had received a text asking for details about the party and Logan had asked. After swearing to secrecy, Virgil had told him. If Logan was honest, he found it quite humorous watching the mini freakout that Roman was watching. Eventually, Patton tapped Roman on the shoulder and told him to go relax and breathe.
Virgil knew that the party had started at 10 pm, but Virgil knew he wouldn’t be able to avoid Roman for two hours so, he was showing up at 11:30. Virgil knocked on the door and saw that Emerson had answered it. Virgil asked a quick question, “Roman’s location?”
“Kitchen,” was the only reply that Virgil needed. So he walked into the living room and began talking with his coworker and friend, Dr. Picani for a few minutes and proceeded to move on. He followed this cycle until about five minutes to midnight when Roman found Virgil. Virgil finished his statement and excused himself, very aware that Roman was anxious for an answer. They were barely in the hallway when Roman asked, “So, what’s your decision?”
“Wow Princey, no ‘Hi, how are you’ just straight to what I can do for you,” Virgil teased.
“Hi Virgil, how are you?” Roman asked flippantly.
“I am great, how are you, Roman?” Virgil said, continuing to tease.
“Very nervous,” Roman said, clearly irritated.
“Oh, why is that?” Virgil said, feigning innocence.
“Well the boy I love is refusing to tell me his decision,” Roman stated. Right as Roman had said that, the countdown to midnight started.
“Well here is the answer you so desperately want,” Virgil said, and when the countdown hit zero, Virgil kissed Roman, when he was done, Virgil asked, “Did that answer your question?”
“Yes, it did,” Roman said and kissed Virgil again, “Want to go out next Saturday night?”
“I should be free,” Virgil teased as he grabbed the hand of the boy he had fallen for.
“All of this over a crockpot too,” Roman commented.
Virgil smacked him and said, “Are you complaining, cause like give me the crockpot and I will go.”
“Just kidding,” Roman teased and kissed the very happy emo.

As Time Goes By (1/2)
Pairing: Arthur Fleck x Co-worker!Reader Word Count: 1803
Author’s Note: Lmao so I’m deadass 3 days late with this, but I got inspired for it literally on New Years Eve, and it’s been running away from me ever since (mostly ‘cause I actually came down with a pretty bad infection, and now I’m apparently allergic to the antibiotic the doctors gave me for it. It’s not been fun the last few days). Here it is now in its final form (split into 2 parts for my own sanity and yours), and with it, I thank you all for coming in at the butt end of 2019 and playing a big part in saving my ass. All your fanfic, all your art and acceptance of mass mutual love for this boy, and whether you’ve reblogged and liked or commented on my art or what little writing I’ve done or even my dumbass tag meta, I’m incredibly humbled and screaming about it literally all the time, and I love you all. Hope to talk to more of you in 2020 to keep the clown love going strong, and I’ll see you all very soon for part 2 ;)
Tumblr media
Arthur hadn’t really believed it when he’d been invited.
In his 33 years of life he had hardly ever been invited to anything. Birthdays, Christmas parties, dinners, drinks. If he had been offered any of these occasions, he’d often be forced to turn them down. He could justify to himself that he’d hate to leave his mother alone on any given holiday (let alone any day, with how poor her health was), but deep down, he felt the gesture empty. If he went, he’d be no more than he already was- an invisible man. Nobody to talk to, nobody to really celebrate with despite festivity cascading all around him. All because nobody really wanted the freak there anyway. Why go to all the trouble when he could be far more comfortable at home alone instead?
But when Gary had approached him one sunny Gotham winter morning as he was buttoning his golden vest, and said that the rest of the guys were planning to go to a bar on Nolan and 3rd to celebrate the New Year, he actually thought about going.
He was sweet to do so. Always nice to him. He’s sure the other guys wouldn’t think to extend such a courtesy to him, let alone want to. He knew what they thought of him, and frankly he didn’t think too highly of spending more time with them either. He was ready to make his usual excuse- that meds needed to be picked up, that his mother needed tending.
But it was four little words that Gary had said- soft enough and potent enough to make him reconsider.
“She’ll be there too.”
His eyes find her almost immediately, and Gary’s eyes follow- by the vanity, where she tugs down her wig to cover her hair- bright red spun yarn, dressed in a pair of braids. Her fluffy underskirt poking out a brilliant white under her blue polka-dot dress as she leans closer to the mirror.
She’s lovely. Always has been. In and out of makeup. Always wishing him a good day, laughing at his jokes. She even asks for them- on days when she drags her feet up that long staircase, tired eyes hoping all the more that whatever he has for her will do the trick that he loves best- a smile, no matter how soft, and a chuckle, whether it leaves her chest or not. Anything is enough for him.
He knows he’s going, deep down. He knows it surely as his heart starts thudding against his fragile ribs just a little harder as she smoothes her hands down her plush skirt.
“I-... I’ll think about it.” he concludes softly.
“All right. I hope you will. It’d be good to see you there, mate.”
They share smiles- genuine ones, before Gary gets back to his locker, dragging out his own jacket and wig. Just then, he sees a flash of pastel blue flutter past him, and his eyes flit up to her face, full of warmth as she waves a gentle goodbye to him.
“Have a good day, Artie.”
Chills shoot up his spine in a rush. A hit of joy. An impossible wish, but one spoken true all the same. He wonders if there’s invisible cherubs behind him, stabbing him with arrows.
Arthur lifts his hand, wiggling his fingers weakly as he smiles back at her.
“Have a good day…” he repeats.
Her smile gets wider before she turns her attention to the dwarf next to him.
“You too Gary.”
“And you!” he shouts after her, as she finally picks up her bag and trots down the stairs. He knows his eyes aren’t the only ones on her when she leaves, but he hopes that his eyes are more important than most.
“How come she never tells me to have a good day?” Randall quips with a shrug. Gary rolls his eyes as he turns to him in reply.
“Maybe because you’re an arse-hole.”
He laughs at that. Neither the laugh he pushes out of himself for courtesy, or the ones that force themselves out and choke him. He laughs for real, and he knows he’s going.
He has to.
His mom is nodding off, thank God.
She’s been fed, and they’ve watched a bit of the Live Gotham New Years Celebration coverage on TV- Murray Franklin, hosting- from her bed. The lights are out, save for the soft blue glow of her TV, and it’s just enough of a sleeping potion to start putting her under. She always gets like this, in truth. Out cold long before the night really has a chance to even begin. It’s a blessing, really. Especially tonight.
Because it gives him plenty of time to get ready.
Sure, he doesn’t have much of a choice in what suit he wears- the only one he owns being a deep maroon, a hand-me-down from the last decade. He can’t decide how to style his hair (though he’s bathed, he’s at least managed that much, for her), whether to slick it back or keep it casual, all he has in the way of cologne is something cheap he got from the drug store on his way home from work the day Gary invited him, but he’s got the spirit. For Her. And it seems that today, it’s enough.
He gathers the necessaries from the closet before he leaves his mother to sleep, switching the tv in the living room onto the special while he prepares, dabbing the cologne to his wrists and neck, wiggling his spindly legs into his suit pants on the couch.
Just then, as he’s buttoning up his fly, the brief commercial break ends with a quick jazz sting from the band- moved all the way downtown just for this occasion. He watches as the comedian approaches a couple. Arm in arm in the snow and smiling like they’ve won the lottery. Murray quips of how happy they are, about his own relatively new wife and how it won’t last- all in good humor. But he can’t register any of it.
All he registers is the way the woman’s hands move around that man’s waist. He feels it himself. On him. Faint. A warm hand wrapping around him, just under his jacket, grazing over the deep blue sweater he’d dragged on this morning to go to therapy, fitting so neatly in the space between his hips and his ribs. It’s uncanny. It feels just like her.
And for just a moment the couple on the screen is gone. Replaced by another, far more handsome than the last.
Him and her. Together. Happier than the thousands of handmade smiles they paint on themselves with rich pigments in cheap grease. Hers is particularly divine. Her cheeks rosy as they lift fully to accommodate her joy. It makes his heart want to break his bones, leap right out of his chest, into the palm of her hand of its own accord.
And they remained that way. For hours. Gotham’s imposing buildings shrinking beneath the way they look at each other, hold each other close and not just for the inevitable warmth her body brings to his. And at the stroke of midnight, he pulls her impossibly close, cupping her face when he kisses her, the cold air melting away under their shared warmth as confetti falls around them with the snow. They even get on the kiss cam.
Gotham sweethearts. And everyone knows it.
He smiles, as the saxophone slowly pulls him out of reverie. The chilling blue light of the tv washes over him, and his hand pulls itself agonizingly from the spot it found across his abdomen, feeling his rib sticking out in his laid-back position. Murray, bundled up in scarf and woolen coat, speaks loud and clear into his microphone over a cheering crowd, ever the professional.
“Well folks, this is it! Not much more than an hour left until the New Year! Pour some Champagne, and get your sweethearts close, and we’ll be right back after these messages.”
Panic washes over him so fast he almost tumbles over the coffee table trying to get up off the couch.
He’s late.
Quicker and more lithe than a cat high on their nip, he tugs his sweater off, buttoning up his clean white dress shirt as fast as he can- praying he didn’t skip any buttons, or that he improperly tied his tie.
“Happy? Where are you going?” a sleepy lilt calls from behind him.
He almost yelps, but before he can he turns to see his mother, leaning against the hallway, looking like she could pass out again right then and there. Leaving his waistcoat not fully buttoned, pulling his suit jacket on, he strides over to her and supports her sleepy form, starting to try and lead her back to bed.
“I’m meeting some guys from work for a drink.” A half-lie, as they reach the bedroom door. Enough to not make her question why he’s dressed to the nines and the strong and heady scent coming off of him - discount eros from a bottle. She hums a little “oh”, mulling over what she should say in response. He doesn’t give her the chance.
“I’m sorry Mom, I forgot to tell you.” Another half-lie, but it completes a full truth for her, letting him keep the solitary thought of her all to himself, even for a little while longer.
A look of unnecessary worry strikes across Penny’s face.
“You shouldn’t drink, Happy. It could mess with your pills. And you know I don’t like you being out this late.”
He winces at that. Guilt hitting him like needles prodding his veins. It isn’t much, but it’s enough to hurt. That she doesn’t trust him to leave and make it back in one piece. That she doesn’t trust him to know himself.
That she doesn’t trust him.
But she can’t dissuade him now.
They reach the door to her room, and they both slink in. He lets go of her once he’s sure she can make it the rest of the way to her side of the bed by herself, and swipes up his old hoodie draped over the corner that isn’t hers.
“I’ll be home by next year, I promise.” He purses his lips with a playfully disarming smile for her. She gives him a breathy chuckle of acceptance, and sits back on her bed again, pulling up the covers as she does.
“All right, Happy. Be careful.”
He nods, tugging the hoodie over his suit- trying not to wrinkle the sleeves as best he can.
“I will, Ma.”
He blows a kiss, and before she even has the chance to give him one back, he’s picked up his wallet and keys, and he’s out the door, locking it behind him.

Let’s talk about why my Mom did not bond with me and why my Maternal Grandma did.
I think the best thing to do is start at the beginning. I was born one month after my parents first child had died. This sister is my older sister but she was not really a part of our lives. (She will be called from now on DS = Dead Sister in this blog if she is ever brought up.) I think in our entire house there was only one picture of DS and maybe one at my paternal grandmother. I know my mother did have a baby book for DS but she kept it put away out of sight. So was the picture. The picture was shoved to the top of a book shelf in the living room. This death did make it hard if not impossible for my parents to bond with me. Well I should say for my Mom to bond with me. My Dad has made it clear several times that he ever wanted kids and only had me and my siblings because he liked having sex with my Mom. (The next post will go into my details on this point.) But my Mom never let that death go. And this death seemed to have warped my Mom’s mind where my early years are concerned. Whenever I have brought this up to her she always points out that she made me two baby books and will blame my MGM (Maternal Grandmother) for interfering with any bonding we could have done. I want to break down these two excuses one at a time as they both irritate me and upset me. The Baby Books my mother made for me are creepy to tell you all. Not in that way you get when seeing your baby pictures. They seem to document every day of my life until around the time I was two years old. My DS died when she was two years old. As if she was expecting me to die at the same age. My baby book even has a section of my umbilical cord in a little sealed baggy (yes it’s as gross as it sounds). Neither of my sisters’ or brother’s baby books have their cords in it. Also my sisters who are twins only have one shared book and my brother has half a book. It’s almost like once I didn’t die she stopped caring for me. She focused on my sisters and then my brother. She bonded with them but stayed distant with me. Her complaints that my MGM interfered with any bonding we could have had are all lies. My MGM had explained to me (when I was around 18 I think) that my Mom never bounded with me. She took care of me (feeding, changing, and bathing…etc). But once my needs where met that she would set me down or hand me off to another family member. My MGM stepped up and took a major interest in my life as a baby and that carried threw as a kind. She bonded with me and provided me the love and attention that all babies need to grow and thrive. My MGM loved my siblings but our bound was stronger than her bound with them. Partly due to them not needing a mother figure in their lives, partly due to the interference of my Mom, and partly due to how my MGM actually parented when we were in her care.
The distant and lack of bonding with me made my life and relationship with my siblings hard and very abusive. They would bully and beat me up a lot. They would steal my stuff and keep it for themselves. Give my bike to their friends to use so I could not fallow them. Take my diaries and share them with my Mom to get me in trouble for the feelings I had written there. They would break or destroy their stuff and then try and blame me for the breaking of the stuff. Or just try to break my stuff.  My parents did not care nor punish my siblings for doing these things. Or even punish me for defending myself or standing up for myself. Saying the line “You’re the oldest and as such need to set an example for them” or some variation of that. This worked to build their bond between my parents and my siblings.
My MGM on the other hand would punish my siblings for doing them same thin. This would also keep my siblings from wanting to from a relationship with our MGM (cause they where spoiled brats not wanting to get punished). One example of her standing up for me was when we were kids me and my two sisters had been given these lovely cloth merry go round horses. They were kept at my MG house as most of our toys where due to how bad and disgusting our living conditions (to be explained in a latter post.) They each had tails made of color yarn and ribbons. My siblings one day when we were dropped off at my MGM’s house to be watched went back to the room that my Sisters’ merry go round horses were stored. I had joined my MGM in watching TV as we liked to do. Then my siblings came running out and lied that I had cut off the tail of S1’s horse tail. My MGM called them out as she had been in that room and seen the Horse and its tail had been intact before we had arrived and as I had just sat down with my grandmother on my arrival and not moved since. My Mom always blamed my MGM for why I never bonded with my siblings. She also would say that my MG could only bond with the first born grandchildren of each of her children. She always explains it as because my MGM mother died shortly after I think my MGM’s sister was born. My MGM’s father remarried and her stepmother was kind and caring till her stepmother and her father had their own child. Then my MGM and he sister where pushed aside. I have always felt this was just bull shit and excuses. My Mom would take glee in always telling me that had DS lived my MGM would have focused and bonded with DS and I would not have been the favored child. This has gone on ever since my MGM died. My Mom would never have told me that while my MGM was alive cause she figured that I would tell my MGM about what she said. My Mom has since poisoned my siblings with these thoughts and they went with it. It’s made it hard to talk with my sisters about this as they always mimic my Mom’s words back to me.
Saddest part is that my MGM didn’t feel this way at all. She loved all her grandchildren. But did not agree with how my parents (latter just my Mom) where raising us(the continued abuse and bullying I was receiving from my siblings, the lack of punishment and stopping of the behaviors by my parents, and the allowing of my siblings to do dangerous and illegal activities). After my parents divorced and my Mom moved us to a new state my MGM would send $20 a week to be split between the four of us. Then as first my B and S1 started to smoke she had the money to be split between me and S2. Then when S2 started to smoke I was to get the whole amount of the $20. My Mom was upset and angered by this and often said that my siblings were upset by this (and maybe they where I have no idea) but my MGM had hoped and explained this to us and my mother that she would not pay for my siblings to smoke. This didn’t stop my mother from trying by “borrowing” the $20 from me to help with groceries till I found out that she was using the $20 to help pay for my siblings cigarettes  I stopped giving my Mom the $20’s and told her that I would tell my MGM what was she was doing. This stopped my Mom asking me for the $20’s. (Note my mother has never once paid me back for any money borrowed.)
My Mom was not above using the fact I was close to my MGM. She used me almost all the time to ask my MGM for money. Mainly because she felt and knew my MGM would be hard pressed to turn me down. It got so bad that when I would call my MGM I had to make it known to my MGM that no I was not calling for my Mom to ask for money.
She was deeply saddened by the distance that my siblings put between her and them. They stopped calling her on holidays and never wished her a happy birthday. As such she decided to stop sending them gifts. She would still send my siblings cards for holidays and for their birthdays. She just stopped giving them money. She did make it clear to them and my Mom that they just needed to reach out. But it was too late to repair much of the relationship. I do have some memories of my mother half halfheartedly bonding with me in my latter years that where clearly after thoughts and more meant to prove my growing feelings wrong. Or where just either forced on her to deal with my learning disability or cause it made her look bad. These bonding attempts where also always pushed aside quickly either to focus on my siblings or because I was not that receptive to them. These only hurt any relationship we could have had. Now I’m not saying if what my MGM did with her relationship with my siblings was right or wrong but I do understand why she did it. I’m not saying that she did everything right with our relationship. But I will say that without it my already very turmeric childhood would have been truly nightmarish. And I would not be the person I am today. For that I will always be grateful to my MGM and all she did for me. As for my Mom I don’t blame her for not boding with me. It’s impossible and would be monstrous of me to want that. After all her first child had died a month before her second was born. But what I do blame my Mom for is for lying about the fact that we did bond and trying to use the baby books she made for me as proof when they just more seem like they are epitaphs for me for when I was suppose to have died, blaming my MGM for us not bonding, for the issues between me and my sibling, and finally for the continued attacks on the one person who ever cared and stood up for me and protected me. Those are what I blame my mother for. Sorry for the rambling manner of this post. I think I’ve pretty much covered the bonding issue between me and my Mom I think this Friday I’ll post about my bonding issue and relationship with my Dad and his parents (how I did not bond with my PGM(Paternal Grandmother) and how I did bond with my PGF (Paternal Grandfather).
TL;DR My Mom and I did not bond cause I was born a month after my DS died. And my Mom has two excused for the bonding issue that contradict each other of first we did bond using creepy baby books as proofs and second to blame my MGM for interfering with our bonding. My Mom rather than accept the truth tried to gaslight me. Tear apart my relationship with my now dead MGM and poisoning my siblings to any relationship they could have had and had with our MGM. My mother tried half hardheartedly to bond with me in my latter years but always made it very clear my sisters and brother where her preferred children. I don’t blame my Mom for not bonding with me but more for her lies and her trying to destroy the only happy safe place I ever had during my childhood.
Update I recently talked with my S2 about our childhood. She actually confirmed some of what I said here. My Mom had all through our childhood drilled into the heads of my Siblings head that’s my MG loved me more then them. She would make them jealous of me by telling them my MG would buy stuff for me not them. She also said that my Mom and Dad would all but encourage my parents to beat me up or take my stuff to avoid fights. Now I’m not so foolish to fully believe what she said in this call. But it was interesting to see she backed up my beliefs without me saying what those beliefs where.

Making Snowflakes
Snowflakes. This is a real thing. My mom made a bunch of these a few years ago and linked them together to make a scarf. Anyway, have a crafty Yoongi.
Y/n was curled up trying to follow a crochet pattern online to make snowflake ornaments to hang on their Christmas tree when Yoongi came in from the studio.
“What are you making, Pumpkin?” he asked as he leaned down to press a soft kiss to her forehead.
“I saw this picture of snowflake Christmas ornaments that someone online crocheted, so I’m trying to follow this pattern, but I’m having a difficult time.”
Yoongi curled up beside her, reading over the pattern. “I would offer to help, but I can make no sense of these instructions. Those aren’t even real words.”
“They’re abbreviations,” Y/n giggled. “Crochet patterns have their own language almost. Dc means double chain, which is a type of stitch; sl means slip stitch. You get the idea.”
“Interesting.”
Yoongi had been accused of being a cat by ARMY for years, and he couldn’t help but admit that he felt like a cat by the way he was totally fascinated by the way Y/n was able to understand the pattern and move her crochet hook around. After about 10 minutes, she had finished the first snowflake.
“Wow! That didn’t take too long at all. Once I get them all made, we can starch them so they will stay flat on the tree.”
Y/n held the completed snowflake out to Yoongi to examine. He turned it all around in his hand, noticing all the little details of the stitches. As he moved it, the light hit tiny strands of silver that was interwoven into the white yarn. He had to admit that it would look really pretty on the trees near the colored lights.
While Yoongi was looking over the snowflake, Y/n rose and headed toward the kitchen to make dinner, leaving her phone unattended. Yoongi knew that she’d have to make a lot more snowflakes. He wanted to help make them, but he was too shy to admit it, so he did the next best thing. He forwarded a link of the pattern to himself then deleted that text from her phone. Taehyung had taught himself to crochet the previous year, and hopefully he’d be willing to help Yoongi learn so he could surprise Y/n with snowflakes he’d made too.
The next morning, Yoongi kissed Y/n goodbye and headed off to meet Taehyung at a local craft shop that he frequented. He had been so excited to share his knowledge with Yoongi after he’d seen the pattern. Taehyung helped him buy the right needle sizes to make snowflakes of a few sizes and he helped Yoongi choose a couple of different types of yarn. They picked up breakfast and holed up in Yoongi’s studio for a while. Yoongi was surprised how quickly he caught on to the basic stitches that Taehyung taught him to begin with. After an hour or so, Yoongi was able to successfully crochet his first snowflake. Taehyung made one too, just so he’d understand the pattern in case Yoongi had questions. After that, Taehyung curled up on the couch and worked on his own project, a sweater that Jimin had found on Pinterest and begged him to make, so that he’d be nearby in case Yoongi got stuck.
Yoongi found that once he got the hang of it, something about it was soothing. It gave his hands something to do and his brain was able to just go on autopilot. He spent a while pondering over what gifts to buy for his parents and brother, the members, and for Y/n. He took a few notes as ideas for lyrics floated through his mind as well.
“I think I understand why you like this so much, Tae. It’s kind of cathartic,” Yoongi said after a while.
“Yeah, it is. Plus, I have the satisfaction of holding a finished project in my hands that I can keep or give away to someone I love. It’s also kind of like a puzzle sometimes trying to decipher a new pattern.”
They worked on their individual projects for most of the day. By the time they were ready to leave for the day, Yoongi had successfully made 7 snowflakes. He wrapped them up in some tissue paper and tied them with a ribbon so he could give them to Y/n when she was finished with work. He got to their shared flat a bit before she was due to be home, so he turned some music on and began making dinner. She opened the door just as he was pulling their dinner out of the oven.
“Mmm…It smells amazing in here, Yoongi.” Y/n wrapped her arms around his waist and snuggled her head in between his shoulder blades. “You’ve been busy, Baby.”
“I have been. I hope you’re hungry. But before we eat, I have something for you.”
He wiped his hands on the apron tied around his waist before pulling the small tissue paper package out of his bag and handing it to her. She looked a little confused but untied the ribbon gently and unfolded the paper.
“Snowflakes?” she asked.
He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “Yeah. Last night while you were making dinner, I sent myself a link to the pattern. Taehyungie went with me to a craft store to get supplies and taught me the basic stitches to make the snowflakes. I’ve been making snowflakes nearly all day because I wanted to help.”
“Oh, Yoongi,” she whispered. “I love them.”
Y/n pulled him into a tight hug. “Thank you so much for making these. It means a lot that you wanted to make something to put on our tree too.”
Yoongi smiled the biggest smile. “I found that I kind of like it. I might get Tae to teach me some other patterns that I can work on. It was really soothing, and I was able to just let my brain go while my hands just moved.”
Y/n kissed him gently to help alleviate his shyness about his newfound hobby. “I love that. I might be able to teach you a few patterns too if you’d like. You can look through my pattern notebook later. But for now, I want to sit down with you and eat the gorgeous dinner you made.”
As they chatted about their days and other random things, Yoongi couldn’t help but feel accomplished. He had only made a few snowflakes, but in the end, it brought him closer to both Y/n and Taehyung, and he was thankful for that. Who knew that snowflakes made of yarn would have given him such joy and satisfaction?
