Sun Kissed

Apollo appears in the cabin randomly, scaring the fuck out of Will, and grins. “Hey son!”

Will glares at the god, throwing a pencil at him. “Man I was just about finish up for the night. What do you want now?”

Ignoring the obvious annoyance, Apollo walks over the remainder of the way and cups Will’s face, kissing his cheeks and nose. Pulling back, keeping his hands on Will, Apollo grins widely. “I felt your skills grow this week. I’m very proud.”

Will flushes a deep red but softens in his father’s grip. “Ya well, Percy came through. Always something new to learn with him.”

Again, Apollo leans in and kisses his face a few times - obnoxiously overly dramatic and wet, causing Will to scrunch his nose in disgust. “Ew, stop it.”

Dodging the gabs, Apollo again pulls away. “How are your siblings? I also felt a few of them hitting a few of the new marks at the range.” His thumbs rub along Will’s cheeks.

Staring at Apollo, Will narrows his eyes. Yes, Apollo has been affectionate after the Lester incident, but this was a different level. “Are you alright?”

“Hm? Oh I’m wonderful. Tell me, are you doing well?”

It takes twenty minutes to get his father to go back to Olympus, and the only reason he does it because Nico comes to collect his boyfriend for the night.

“Hey babe.” Will sighs tiredly as he loops their arms together.

Nico doesn’t answer, grinning at Will.

“What?”

Tapping his face, Nico snorts. “Look in the mirror.”

Frowning, Will lets go of Nico and wonders over to the sink and stares in the mirror.

“That mother fucker-“

His face is covered in new freckles.

I absolutely LOVE the sun and the star because it’s JUST-

THE SUN AND THE STAR SPOILERS AHEAD

We finally get a darker side of Will, seeing as they have to make a descent to Tartarus. I think it’s really important that we get to see Will’s struggles and insecurities as well. His struggles with not being able to save people as a healer, his guilt about Octavian’s death, and him feeling as though if he can’t help other people, he’s worthless. His dreams when they were being sent terrible nightmares cut deep.

Will’s interaction with Persephone is so good. He was so stunned by her because she was STUNNING and Nico had to remind him that that’s his STEPMOTHER. But jokes aside, it was a really nice interaction that I feel really helped Will. “Give him your darkness.” For a child of Apollo, it might seem like you don’t have darkness. Obviously, that’s not true. If you have an “opposites attract” thing going on, and you’re just so different, I feel like this is perfect advice.

After so many times where people would make head cannons about how they first met, first kissed, etc. Rick Riordan FINALLY gave us the answers!! I think they’re all so fitting. Nico’s realization that he liked Will being him taking Nico out in the woods to yell and get his anger out, their first date AND coming out being an accident, and their first kiss being an impulsive need by Will to calm Nico down about Jason’s death. It’s all so perfect!

We finally really see the sheer difference in these two. Before, it was like, “oh, son of Apollo, son of Hades, that’s weird!” But now, you really see how different they really are. Will’s difficulty in the underworld and how he was repeatedly saying, “how could anyone live down here?” really annoyed Nico. To Nico, the Underworld was home. To Will, it was a depressing place that nobody should want to live in. His energy gets drained faster there, he’s pretty much unable to heal, and he basically is clueless about it. But Nico is pretty much an expert on it. It’s good we finally see just how different they are.

AND ALSO THEY ARE JUST AN AMAZING COUPLE SO YEAH THE BOOK’S GREAT (tell me if I forgot anything or got anything wrong 😅)

will & nico are jegulus in another life. i think this has been said before but i’m gonna say it anyway. will & nico are james & regulus if they could’ve been together. they’re jegulus if fate didn’t fight against them at every moment. will is james, the sunshine boy with the tanned skin and bright smile. nico is regulus, the boy who doesn’t believe that anyone will love him, but there’s sunshine to shower him in affection. jegulus in canon, the two boys nobody excepted to fall in love. yet here they were, head over heels. will & nico are jegulus without death and despair. without old men who curse them, and on the same side of the war.

there’s no way will solace got on a motorcycle with percy fucking jackson who was probably driving a million miles per hour forcing him to grab onto percy for dear life and didn’t come off of it with a little crush on him ain’t no way

i stand on the fact that maybe percy was wills gay awakening too not as bad at nico but he definitely came off the cycle a little confused

and i would like this to be information casually dropped into convo between nico and will at some point in the future like maybe someone’s talking to them and is like “who was your gay awakening” and will answers before nico and is like “oh this celebrity but if i think reallll far back it was definitely the one time percy threw me on the back of a motercycle he hot wired so i could save annabeths life lol”
