(I also got tired of seeing internet news pop up every time I pulled up my INTERNAL search bar just to look for things on my computer, so I googled how to fix that, too. That one was harder, but a comment on a forum post from years ago saved me, so... you CAN force this Windows Malware to operate how you like, and go back to how it used to be and stop being so invasive with internet searches when you don't want them, and AI where you don't want it... with some effort.)

I had to go find an obscure tech forum to teach me how to turn off the Windows 11 thing where, when you search internally...it also did an internet search??? Why, if I'm looking for a specific file or folder on MY computer, would I want to also simultaneously search the WEB for that? Thankfully, there's always an answer out there on the internet, if you look hard enough. Thank you for making THIS answer on how to turn off YET ANOTHER facet of Win11 easier to find. Don't 'upgrade' to Windows 11. Don't do it. I did it early on thinking 'I don't want to pay for this shit later when they force us to move to it'... I wish I'd stayed on Windows 10 so badly, now. While you're there in Privacy & Security, hit up the Activity History section too!

No, I do not want my activity tracked - Firefox already remembers what tabs I had open last time I closed it, thank you very much. You may also wish to check out Diagnostics & Feedback, also in that Privacy & Security section! It similarly tracks you!

There is also Search Permission in this Privacy & Security section that also tracks and saves and utilizes your search history! Microsoft is desperate to track you, and has a thousand different ways you have to say 'I said no already'.

Do you use Logitech peripherals? Do you have Windows 11? Do you use a dynamic lighting set-up you made in Ghub, and now the new Windows 11 dynamic lighting 'feature' has broken that? This is the reddit thread for you! My initial quickfix was to toggle the dynamic lighting in Win 11 off and on a few times before Ghub would recognize it was off, but the longterm fix seems to be in this comment -

Hey everyone, something a little different from the usual stuff I post, but last week my project group at university finished our semester project, which also means that (aside our thesis and exam) we're almost finished with our bachelor's degree.

Over the last ~3 months we've been working on a small video game and it would mean the world to us if more people would check it out and maybe even give feedback. It's available for Windows and Mac, also it's free :)

I was mainly responsible for everything graphics-related and worked on concept art, 2D and 3D assets (models, textures etc.) and some VFX, but since we were a team of just 6 people everyone helped out where they could, so I also contributed to the coding and audio in parts. It was a lot of work, but it's also been a very fun experience and we're proud of our achievements. In the coming week we're going to present our project at an exhibition at our university, but we already wanted to make it available for playing before :3

Honestly I'm reblogging because I had no idea that OpenOffice had died! I'll clutch my copy closely, indeed.

i have always used MS Word for writing, but my laptop wheezed and went into a coma last fall and took my MS 2007 with it.

i carefully switched some projects to Google Docs, but now it's promoting its "AI" software to me.

so i just downloaded LibreOffice and moved my GDocs over to that.

anyway, if anyone has bad news for me about LibreOffice, tell me now, please, thx

Windows is amazing (/s)

Windows 11, and Windows in general, is so annoying, but it's the only thing that'll be supported by Microsoft and get security updates starting in October. Why do I need to login to a Microsoft account to even USE my computer? Like, Not even APPLE forces you to log into an account to use a Mac. The only advantage that Windows has over Linux (for me, a moderately technically inclined user) is support for gaming. Another slight advantage is that Windows is the only OS besides macOS that supports the malware known as Respondus lockdown browser, which I need for some exams (ugh). That's it. And even that is waning, as it's mainly anticheats in multiplayer games that don't like Valve's proton. And the operating system itself is basically adware, a PUP. I am getting ADS in my OS. Not by some shady adware, but by MICROSOFT. Nagging me to get gamepass (even though I already have it). Nags to upgrade onedrive storage. Nags to buy M365 on my personal account even though I have office through my school. There's something I want to make eventually, and it's a Linux distro that is more accessible to Autistic people and other disabled people in general, with many modes making using the OS simpler if needed depending on support needs and even a "helper mode" when someone needs it.
