✨ A Spark of Magic Book Cover Reveal ✨

It's finally here! After teasing it for so long and saying how happy I was with the book cover, I finally get to share it with you 🥺 @.catarinabookdesigns did a wonderful job with it, and I couldn't be happier with it!

I'm not kidding when I say this cover has many easter eggs. I love covers that take a new shape once you've read the book, and I wanted to do something similar with this one. A Spark of Magic is a story wrapped in mystery where each answer leads you to more questions, and I wanted that sort of vibe for the cover. Where does this connect to? Whose character is this related to? Oh, so this is what that means!

This is the ebook version of the cover. The paperback has a few other details on its spine and back and I'll show those to you at a later date once I have the physical copy with me.

tell me why it never clicked to me to search up the meaning of the name Keith 🧍🏻‍♀️

(i love google) It's a Scottish surname (also first name) that originates from the Gaelic word ceiteach // ceit which means “woodland” or “forest” and how fitting is that for him?? like the moment they go to Olkarion and he's looking at the outdoors, he says, "I like it out here. It's quiet" (s2e4). I feel like there are more instances of him expressing/showing his love for the outdoors, but I can't seem to remember any ahaha.

Keith living in the desert shack in isolation after Shiro went missing on the Kerberos mission is kinda tricky, but I gotta remind myself that canonly speaking, VLD Keith is an independent guy with a big heart (he does so much sacrificing for team Voltron, and he's constantly doing stuff for the greater good). I don't think he inherently likes being alone -- the poor guy has abandonment issues, and he's so lonely my heart breaks for him -- but I definitely think he appreciates nature. He has a hard time accepting and trusting people because of how he grew up, but he's never been let down by the outdoors. I think he finds a lot of solace in it, and I love how fitting this love is with his name :)

Mortal Sparks

Wooow writing- I've done some. Just now. A little angsty, but I think Nicolette is entitled.

Neither of them spoke. Night had fully fallen, and there was no moon yet. The pale gravel of the road was the only landmark that Nicolette could make out. She chanced a look at Alyss, still spread across the oak roots as if she did this every day, as if she was comfortable. Her outline was only a darker shadow against the dark trees. Nicolette couldn’t even feel her life force. The push push of blood pulsing through veins was strangely absent. Fear seized like ice inside Nicolette. She grabbed at Alyss, her shoulder, her hand, fumbling fingers around her wrist. As soon as she touched her, Nicolette knew she was losing her mind. Alyss was warm, living, with skin that flexed under her fingertips.  “What the hades-” Alyss batted away her hands. Nicolette burst into sobs. Grateful sobs.  “I thought- I thought-,” she covered her fance with her hands and retreated back to a curl. She cried on her own for a moment, until hands started to pull at her arms.  “What was that?” Alyss asked, “You can’t just grab a girl…” “I thought - I thought you - had died - I couldn’t feel -” Nicolette gasped out nonsense.  Alyss was stronger than her, and had gotten control of her arms.  “I’m here,” Alyss offered, clearly befuddled. “I don’t think I’m dead, at least.” “No,” Nicolette gulped in air, easier without hands over her face. “No, it’s me.”

@na-dineee: This fic can be summed up in one word: BAM !! Alex and Henry know each other casually from class, but then they meet at a college New Year’s party and their midnight kiss turns deliciously smutty. From there, everything just falls perfectly into place—in a fast-paced, clever, heartfelt, and wonderfully smutty way. An absolute joy to read. 10/10, no notes, would totally recommend!

Down By The Water, I Saw You by @myheartalivewrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Is it fate or coincidence? Who knows—but one unexpected encounter throws Alex and Henry’s lives completely off track. A decade after meeting on holiday and being torn apart, they find themselves face to face again in the Scottish Highlands. This fic is perfection—great pacing, a stunning setting, and the perfect blend of tension, fluff, and smut. Plus, it has one of the best epilogues I’ve ever read. I've revisited it multiple times and will definitely read it again.

@suseagull5914: This fic, the sequel to a flicker, a spark, has just as much heart as the original and is so beautiful! You see little moments in the lives of Alex, Henry and Nena that, while only loosely connected at first, all culminate in a beautiful conclusion. The topics this fic touches on are some of my favorites in post-canon firstprince fics too!

@suseagull5914: Want a happy ending, but not in the mood for pure fluff? Look no further. Not only is this verse so creative, containing sci-fi vibes that you don't see in a lot of fics, but the tone of it is so beautifully written.

@suseagull5914: The author's imagination and world building really shine in this fic that'll have you grinning from ear to ear! Alex meets the Tooth Fairy the very first time he loses a tooth and through him, Henry, years later. While firstprince is adorable in this fic, it's Alex's relationship with the Tooth Fairy he met as a kid that's really the highlight of the fic, which is a nice change of pace from firstprince-centric fics!

Treehouses, Emails and Making It Right by @itsmaybitheway (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: This fic explores what would've happened if Alex and Henry became friends before Rio, and it's absolutely adorable! All of the relationships in it are so well developed, especially between the White House Trio!

@dot524: This is one of my all-time favorite comfort-read fics. I love the way it’s told, with flashbacks and hints as the story unfolds, along with lyrics and snatches of social media conversation. It has the feel of a masterpiece and you can tell the author was really thoughtful with how to share this story. In it, Alex is a songwriter/songwriter and Henry is an actor, and they struggle with understanding themselves and keeping their relationship a secret. I love their process of getting to know each other and their fight against the world and for each other. Alex’s songs are so unique and fitting, and they tell the story too. Just a wonderful journey of a fic.

It's so suspenseful, and the author clearly put so much thought into the world-building aspect of it because it shows. A must-read for book and magic lovers alike!

@suseagull5914: I'm really picky about friends to lovers, but I absolutely loved watching the boys become friends and then something more in this fic! How much the boys care about each other, especially Alex for Henry, is so pronounced in this fic, and I loved it!

@na-dineee: This hit me right in the feels! Single dad Alex is figuring out life after his daughter heads off to college, when Nora plays matchmaker with Henry — 12 years his junior. Out of practice and less than thrilled, he’s soon swept into something unexpectedly beautiful. This fic is packed with emotion, a pinch of vulnerability, and in the end, pure domestic bliss.

they say ‘you're a little much for me, you're a liability’ by @henrysfox (book-verse)

@taylor-27: This is such an angsty yet comforting fic. I had a real good cry. Basically, Alex and the super six are close friends and Henry is his roommate. It's all about Alex and his old insecurities being dredged up and how it sends him into a spiral and he has a breakdown about it. It's all about picking up those sharp pieces and putting it back together. Alex's state of mind is described beautifully! A must read!

Prof. A. Fox, Matchmaker by @smc-27 (book-verse)

@na-dineee: This fic may be short, but it’s three times as sweet. I was grinning the whole way through. Fics where Arthur is alive always feel special to me, and this one does it so well��Arthur is just the right amount of unhinged and deranged in his matchmaking attempts, leaving Henry slightly flustered and annoyed… and yet Alex still falls for him in no time. Because of course he does !!

Bright Blue Sky by @absoluteaudacitywrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Here comes the ultimate FirstPrince post-canon established-relationship fluff—packed with domesticity and pure marital bliss. Alex and Henry as twin dads, going all out to make their boys’ birthday perfect? This is a chef’s kiss masterpiece: sweet, wholesome, and utterly heart-melting.

End of the Year WIP ask game, "send me a 👀 and i’ll post a snippet of art/writing that i never got around to finishing this year (r.i.p)"

This is an Az one shot inspired by the song Holding Out for a Hero:

A shadow lingered outside the doorway of Nyx’s room, watching you and the Night Court’s heir with an intensity that could only belong to one person.

Azriel.

His eyes were fixed on you as you told Nyx one of your enchanting tales. Nyx loved when you babysat him, knowing he was in for a nice bedtime treat every time. You were a devoted nanny to him and, on the side, delved into the world of writing novels for children. You often used your magic to create vivid illusions in the air, bringing your stories to life with every word. Captivating not only the adorable child in the bed beside you but also the one lingering outside the doorway.

Azriel stood there for a moment, under the pretense of saying goodbye to his nephew. 

Cassian had seen through him and now stood at the bottom of the stairs, rolling his eyes with a knowing smirk while Nesta shoved him –a warning to not say a word. The Night Court’s spymaster was not as slick as he thought. Cassian had caught his lingering stares and flushed cheeks whenever you’d smile at him one too many times. 

It was obvious to him–and anyone, really–that Azriel had a crush on you.

Feyre and Rhysand had already bid their son farewell, as had Cassian and Nesta a couple of minutes ago. Rhysand had important business to attend to in Hewn City that required all of their presences. It would only be for a couple of hours.

Your voice filled the nursery as you continued your bedtime tale. Tonight, it was about a damsel in distress and a brave warrior.  With the movement of your hands, your illusions danced in the air, creating vibrant images of a princess in a tower.

"And so, the princess looked out from her tower with a heart full of longing," you narrated, your tone soft yet enthralling. "There was a labyrinth of evil creatures below her, content to keep her trapped in that tower forever…[insert rest of story here, how she waits for a knight in shining armor…]”

Nyx's eyes widened in awe, completely entranced by your storytelling and the magical images floating before him. He leaned forward, eager to hear more. “He’s gotta be stwong and fast!”

Azriel stepped into the room, and though his presence was usually quiet, Nyx’s head turned toward him. “Uncle Az!” Nyx exclaimed, eyes lighting up. “Like Uncle Az!”

Azriel’s heart swelled at the boy’s excitement, but his eyes remained on you. He gave you a polite nod in greeting, lips turning upwards into a small smile. He stepped forward, kneeling before Nyx’s bed on the side opposite of you.  “Couldn’t leave without saying goodbye to my favorite nephew, could I?”

Nyx lets out a delighted squeal and you resist the urge to laugh. He’s Azriel’s only nephew. Nyx then looks at you and then back at Azriel and then finally at you. “Can we make Uncle Az the hero? Pwetty please!”

“Of course,” you smile, heart fluttering as the silhouette of the knight turns into something more akin to Azriel’s. Nyx clapped his hands, delighted by his uncle’s addition to the story.

When your eyes met Azriel, you felt a spark and quickly turned your attention back to your magic.

23 Tomarrymort Recs for 2023 (Longfic Edition)

Happy New Year! 🤍 Here is a round-up of some of the most engaging multi-chaptered works/longfics that I came across in this ship in 2023.

I found each of these fics, in their depiction of the ship, to be a fresh or surprising take on our familiar beloved characters of Harry and Tom|Voldemort, truly groundbreaking in some way in their approach to the ship. It's amazing to me that even after 20+ years of this ship existing, there's still new themes / tropes / dynamics to explore, and the authors are all so talented in making me think about the ship in some new way — just incredible examples of what it means to be a transformative work of fanfiction.

Criteria for this list: multi-chaptered, Tomarrymort-centric, with at least 1 update published in 2023. As with a previous longfic rec list, I tried to find longer fics that were relatively under-rated (which is hard to define, but below 2K kudos for the most part).

Blood and spittle rush to follow Riddle’s words that are dragged out through a wrecked throat. “I will consume you.” Harry felt a thrill run up his spine, along with the usual fear and anger that accompanied Voldemort's threats. “Be gentle, I can feel your soul ripping its stitches.”

When Harry looks at Tom, he feels overwhelmed. There is a spark that makes him hopeful, the fear that nothing he does will save Tom from himself, and the horror at what his lies might lead to. When Tom looks at Harry, he feels nothing. Until he does, and then Harry’s world starts drowning in blood.

Banished to his cupboard at age 4, Harry learns to listen only to the Voice in his head. Its teachings wrap all around Harry until no more than dark magic and devotion remains, along with visions of a wraith with red eyes.

Harry Potter’s life ran along very different lines than Tom Riddle’s. He knew nothing more of the man than he read in the Daily Prophet. Then they get stuck in a lift together.

In exchange for peace, Voldemort asks for Harry Potter. And so, there is a new legacy that forms — of The-Boy-Who-Was-Sold, and his childhood spent in a castle, with a man who has killed his parents. In a Voldemort Wins AU, Harry Potter was spared, and enters his seventh year at Hogwarts wanting to do Arithmancy research and keep his head down. However, after a chance encounter, it looks like it may not be so simple. Marvolo Gaunt seems to have his eye on Harry. The trouble is, Harry has no idea why. 

Tender Reigns Our Night by @noumena-writes (M, 93k, WIP)

Sent on a Ministry mission to fight for magic's survival, Harry goes back in time with two simple objectives: find and destroy any existing Horcruxes, and stop Tom Riddle ever evolving into Voldemort — using any means necessary. Harry thus finds himself working alongside Riddle at Borgin and Burke's, examining dark artefacts and desperately trying to fulfil his orders.
