Venti's Disney Princess Traits are Lore-Relevant

Credit to Ashikai, specifically in their YouTube livestream discussing the Genshin 3.7 preview stream

So, in the stream today, Ashikai mentioned the idea that Mondstadt is a city of fairytales - with Klee being Little Red Riding Hood, Razor being the Big "Bad" Wolf, and Lisa being a storybook witch.

Finally, my interest in the old versions of fairy tales is relevant!

I believe Venti is Snow White.

Plenty have joked about Venti having a "Disney Princess Moment" when he talked to animals (as witnessed by NPC Sage). I wanna focus on his preference for Apples.

(Venti liking eating the Christian symbol for Original Sin is a whole separate essay, that I believe others have written before)

I believe Venti represents Snow White, the 7 dwarfs the people of Mond, and the Traveler the prince. Who's the Evil Queen? Uncertain.

What Happens in Snow White Again??

Snow, a princess so-named because of her pale skin and black hair, is sentenced to death by her stepmother, the evil queen. The queen wants the hunstman to kill Snow in the woods, and bring back Snow's heart, either as proof that she's dead or so that the queen can eat it to achieve immortality. Snow begs for her life, and escapes to live with the 7 dwarfs. The queen finds out, disguises herself, and, in the original tale, makes 3 attempts to kill her:

1st, with a corset she laces so tight, Snow can't breathe. 2nd, with a poisoned comb she runs through Snow's hair. And finally, with a poisoned apple.

In the first 2 attempts, the dwarfs return, unlace the corset/remove the apple, and Snow wakes up quickly. In the 3rd, the dwarfs cannot figure out what's wrong, and believe she's dead. She is asleep until the prince happens to come by, and wakes her up (how he does this varies by version).

How Does This Relate to Venti?

To my knowledge, Venti has fallen asleep 3 times after achieving archonhood: once after the fall of Decarabian, once after the fall of the aristocracy, and once after the fight with Durin.

After the first 2 sleep periods, the people of Mond were able to wake him up with their prayers. After the 3rd sleep period, he was badly poisoned, and was only healed after the Traveler came along and purified him.

Exactly how/why Venti sleeps so long is unknown to us, but now I'm inclined to say it's involuntary, and in fact caused by Celestia, in order to keep him complacent.

The Evil Queen, Seeking Snow White's Heart

Mayhaps the Evil Queen wanting Snow's heart, and getting a false one, is representing the Tsaritsa sending La Signora to take Venti's gnosis, and (in this case) getting a fake gnosis. This supports the theory that Venti did indeed keep his real gnosis.

Or, to keep with the timeline and happen way before he goes to sleep:

Mayhaps it represents the Anemo Authority.

Maybe it represents the time powers he has thanks to Istaroth, and even Celestia doesn't know the true extent of Venti's power.

I have a concept of toxic!gaz that sadly isn't talked about enough...

I think he would be the kind of person that your friends (maybe you have friends in common) would say that he is a good guy... The nicest. Always polite and sweet. Never want to fight and you know... He even has a good job... A military one. So you talk to him, get along with him, exchange numbers with him and chat for hours.

So how could you (and even them) think that he was a creep...

How would you even dare to think that.

And so... nobody believes you. No one. There isn't a single contact close to you (even your parents) that when you talk about the things he told you and would do to you... Well nobody believed you...

This is the kind of vibe. You know...pretty smile, chilly personality he has it all

this isn't talked about enough but it's why imo he's the worst. it's almost like a fucking facade, like are you just a psychopath? wearing human skin when he's naught but a rabid wolf who's been hungry for so long that it's twisted into madness or is this just you?? oh the duality of kyle gaz garrick.

yes yes dude yes wait because say you and your friends are saved by him that one time in piccadilly and ofc you're grateful but you're more on the subdued side, or maybe you're still kinda in shock of what's happened so you're hanging back while your friends gush over him and he asks you if you're alright, if you're hurt. tell him you're fine, not physically wounded but his hands are already reaching for your waist, patting you down lightly to check and you kinda twist away, like im FUCKING FINE and he gives you this ㅤsmile that doesn't reach his eyes while he tells you that he's just worried, is all.

could've knocked your head on somethin' durin' the blast, would hate for you to have a concussion, doll.

you tell your friends that dude he was a little too much there no? but they're prattling away at how lucky you are to have such a babe touching you like that, what they wouldn't do for him to look at them like that and one of them hisses that you're being wildly ungrateful, fucking cool it and so now you're doubting yourself and when you turn around to apologize for being so difficult, he's standing by the big man with the mutton chops and while he's talking to him, his eyes are glued onto you.

In the woods of Ered Luin

Summary: Uncle Thorin is taking care of young Fili and Kili and they visit the woods in the area of Ered Luin, The Blue Mountains. Just a lot of fluff and a somewhat anxious Thorin at times, but we all know the boys, so we can't really blame him 😉

It was still early, but Fili and Kili had already been running around since their eyes had opened to a beautiful day in Ered Luin. Dis and Thorin were sitting at the kitchen table, quietly drinking their coffee and listening to the chatter and laughter of the boys. Thorin usually didn’t have a lot of time, so he valued these family moments very much.

Thorin had offered to spend the day with his little nephews. His dear sister Dis had gratefully accepted the offer and looked forward to having some time to herself. But as soon as Thorin had offered to take the boys, next to excitement a little pang of fear hit him. What mayhem would he encounter this fine day? Nothing ever did not happen, something always did.

Thorin mustered up his courage and got up to fetch the boys. When he saw a heap of pebbles, blankets, pillows and a cat on top of it, he wondered what had happened in the few minutes he had taken his eyes off of them. Shaking his head, he said, 'Come on boys, get your coats, put on your boots.’

The heap of blankets, pillows, pebbles and cat immediately came apart and two pairs of eyes looked at him questioningly. 'Where are we going uncle Thorin?' they asked. 

“You’ll see. Now come on, get ready,’ he told them.

Not long after, they entered the forest near the Blue Mountains. It was a beautiful day so far, but the big furry clouds in the distance promised some well deserved rain for the plants and wildlife in the forest. The leaves were softly rustling in the breeze, birds were chirping and singing, insects buzzing. The forest was so full of life, yet so peaceful. 

Kili was jumping and running around. There was so much to see. Flowers, plants, little rocks, insects. Thorin smiled. That boy never seemed to run out of energy. Fili was usually much more reserved and quiet. He was walking alongside Thorin, observing the woods, asking him all kinds of questions and Thorin was answering them patiently.

‘What animals will we see today uncle Thorin?’ Fili asked. ‘Will there be moose? And wolves? What about bunnies? Oh look, uncle Thorin, what kind of bird is that?’ his little fingers pointing at a bird with a bright red chest, singing its morning song on one the branches of a big oak tree.

Thorin cringed at the idea of encountering a wolf and the pebbles being in danger, but he didn’t have a lot of time to think about it, for Kili came running up to him. 

‘Look uncle Thorin, look what I have!’ he exclaimed enthusiastically. He was holding something in his tiny hands, careful not to drop it. Thorin crouched down. ‘What have you got there little man?’ 

Kili opened his little hands and a black spider crawled out. ‘You can have it uncle Thorin,’ he said proudly and with a big grin on his face. ‘I fetched it for you.’

Oh dear, how to get himself out of that situation.

‘I think the spider is …,’ he started

‘Ciaran’,  Kili said.

‘What?’ Thorin looked at Kili, confused.

‘It’s name is Ciaran,’ Kili explained.

Thorin raised his eyebrows at that and scratched his beard. Wow, he had only just found the spider and it already had a name as if it were part of the family and needed to be taken up in the Durin family tree.

The new addition to the line of Durin was quickly forgotten though, when a rustle of leaves alerted Thorin and he looked in the direction of the sound. The word ‘wolves’ still fresh in his mind, he grabbed Kili and told him to be quiet. He checked on Fili, who was crouching down beside Thorin, imitating his uncle and all three of them looked in the direction of the moving bushes nearby.

A little spooked by Fili’s question about wolves, Thorin wished that he had brought his sword. He held his breath, but he sighed with relief when a deer and a fawn appeared and not a big bad wolf. 

‘Oh look uncle Thorin,’ Kili pointed at the fawn, ‘A baby deer! Can we go pet it?’ he asked excitedly.

‘No, Kili,’ Thorin said, ‘They are erm … having breakfast. It’s best to leave them be.’ 

Kili sighed disappointedly and Thorin chuckled.

‘Come on boys, let’s go about our way. There is a stream not far from here.’ 

That also got Fili excited and both pebbles ran ahead, their chatter and laughter echoing between the trees. It warmed Thorin 's heart to see them so excited and happy. With a smile on his face, he followed his nephews in the direction of the stream. 

The clouds, which had seemed so far away at the start of their walk, now gathered above them, hiding the sun and making the forest a little darker. Drops of rain started to fall and the calming sound of the raindrops falling on the foliage and the fresh smell of wet earth had a calming effect on Thorin. All anxiety about wolves forgotten. 

He loved the woods, the sounds, the smells. He filled his lungs with a deep breath of fresh air and for a moment closed his eyes and held his face up to the sky, the fresh rain drops gently falling on his face, his beard and his long, dark hair, which was held back with a beautiful handcrafted clip in the form of a raven. 

He stood there, enjoying the moment, but then, at once, snapped back to reality. It had gone quiet. Even though shouting and noise usually didn’t mean anything good when the boys were concerned, neither did absolute silence. He quickened his pace and almost tripped over a boot and another one and another. He followed the trail of boots, picking them up. Apparently, the boys had decided that they no longer needed those. 

He approached the stream and saw Fili crouched down, his blue cape over his head and his chin resting in the palm of his hand.  Kili was perched on his hands and knees on a flat stone in the stream.  They were studying a black bird which was hopping from stone to stone in the stream. The bird paused, sat on a stone and curiously turned its head from side to side, seemingly as curious as the boys. It was altogether a peaceful sight, the dripping sound of the raindrops making little circles in the water, the gently flowing stream, and the boys watching the bird, watching the boys.

Thorin crouched down next to Fili and put his big hand on Fili’s tiny shoulder. So that’s why the little rascals had gone quiet, he thought and smiled.

‘Can we keep him uncle?' Kili asked, breaking the silence. ‘Can we take him home so that we can show him to amad?’

‘No my dear boy, your mother wouldn’t be very happy if you took a bird home. It lives here, in the forest, you know. This is its home.  Everyone and everything has its own place in this world and the woods is where the bird belongs. It would be sad if it had to leave his home. You don’t want it to be sad, do you?’

Thorin heard himself say the words and for a moment sadness hit him. His thoughts went to Erebor, his home, where he belonged and which he had been forced to leave and for which he longed with all his heart. One day, he would return to the Lonely Mountain. He was sure of it.

He didn’t have long to think about it, because a frog hopped out of the water, onto the stone chasing off the bird. 

Kili giggled and reached for the frog. ‘Can we take …’ he started.

‘No, Kili, we can’t take the frog home either,’ Thorin said sternly, but he had a hard time keeping a straight face. Kili seemed to want to take home every animal and insect he encountered. Thorin was sure that Dis wouldn’t appreciate a zoo in her home. 

After a moment, Thorin got up and said, ‘Come on boys, put your boots back on. Let’s go see if amad has something nice to fill your bellies ok? You must be hungry after all these adventures.’ 

With that, the frog was all about forgotten, the boys hurried to put their boots on and off they went with Thorin in tow. Thorin was quietly enjoying the walk back home, while Kili and Fili chased after butterflies, found treasures - read 'stones' - along the way, chased each other and left Thorin wondering if he, Frerin and Dis had ever had the same amount of energy as these two boys. 

The rain had stopped, the sun had broken through the clouds, its rays illuminating the way home and he couldn’t have been more relaxed.

By the time they got home, Thorin was quite proud of himself that so far, the day had passed without any incidents and mayhem under his supervision. He was grateful for the family time, but also, deep down, grateful to be handing them back over to their mother, his dear sister, whom he admired more and more, every time he looked after the boys.  But also deep down, he longed for another day with his nephews, whom he loved as if they were his own sons.

You were walking in the spider HQ planning to deliver recent reports to Miguel when you noticed Hobie,Gwen,Pavitr and Miles talking to what seems to be Miguel, well ignoring the fact Miguel is talking talking to the people he seemed to hate,atleast you don't need to web all the way to his office.

"Miguel! perfect timing I was gonna deliver this to yo-" You called from afar but as you walk closer you notice big differences.

First of all, his spidersuit seemed darker,more rough and seemed as if he hanged around Hobie too much.

Second, they were talking normally, no stuttering from fear,no snarky retort from Hobie and Miles was even smiling with Miguel considering..well...its Miguel we're talking about.

Third, talking about smiling, HE'S SMILING

You must have been staring for too long since Miguel 0.2 started to chuckle and held his hand out for you to shake

"Oi Y/N! guess who we foun' durin a mission and all dat!" Hobie exclaimed as you shake his hand.

"So Y/N huh? Well I'm Miguel, but I'm sure you already know that sweetcakes" Miguel 0.2 introduced himself.

You gather yourself and shake his hand in return

"Well, Miguel nice to meet you, I take it you're from another another dimension?"

You then faced the group "I take it that your mission went well then?"

"Yup"

"Ye "

"Sure did"

"Yuh uh"

"Well then! thats nice to hear, I'm seeing you all later gotta deliver this to Miguel"

As you were able to walk away, Hobie called out to you.

"Oi Y/N! how bout dis, we go wit you so can big bad wulf 'imself can mee da cooluh version of 'im" Hobie suggested and you hesitated.

As much as you wanted to see Miguel 0.1 reaction to this whole fiasco, you were afraid of him getting all tempermental, Before you could reject his proposal Miguel 0.2 intervened.

"Meetin the other me huh? don't sound too bad aint it? well go on lead the way sweetcakes"

And with that you sigh and finally relented.

"For the last time, It wasn't my Idea Miguel, plus isn't it fascinating meeting the other you that isn't a cat or a car or a ice cream popsicle? And another plus is that kids love him, and I think his skills match yours so maybe he could jo-"

"And for the last time Y/N, No, he's everything I don't trust...Like Hobie...he's everything like Hobie which I don't trust" Miguel stated firmly

You sighed and watched as the group conversed with Miggy which you decided to call him to clear any confusion for your own good

After a few seconds of silence and grimacing for Miguel's part you open your watch and after tapping on the hologram you turned to Miguel.

"Well I sent you the mission report you asked for the other, I already sorted it out by colors so you don't have to struggle"

Miguel turned back to you and huff a 'thank you'

"Oh wow, first a sidekick and now a secretary? must be boring to be with this man, right ¿cariño?"

You turned around and notice the group left and that leaves Miggy walking towards you,hands on his pocket and a smirk on his face.

"Boring?oh no no no I'm actually fi-"

"How bout you mind your business?" Miguel interfened

"What? can't handle being called boring? must cus it's true then"

"Wai-"

"How about you go back to your punk band, back to your own little universe?"

"Miguel come o-"

"Oooo big bad wolf acting out, you know Y/N you could always crash in my universe instead of hanging out with bloke with no sense of humor"

"No I-"

"She's not going anywhere, as far as I remember I told you to mind your business"

"Well that aint for you to decide, ain't it?"

You were starting to panic, looking back and forth to both Miguels in front of you, You then decided that maybe this isn't your fight and with both Miguels interrupting your every word you finalize that it's a fight you technically can't win.

With that thought in mind you decide to slip out of sight by walking towards the door while the Miguels are busy, but curse their heightened senses.

"Where are you going?" You freeze as both noticed you slipping out.

"Well... I... uh... cafeteria?" You curse yourself for making such a bad excuse.Both Miguels stared at you not believing a single word.

Miggy chuckled at your actions, Miguel just sighed.

"Well if she ain't coming me,nor did she say anything about leaving you, why don't we let her choose?"

Before you could say anything you got interrupted....again

"Let her choose?.....What are you implying"

Miggy chuckled and walked towards you putting his hands on your waist, dangerously close to your ass and if you weren't panicking before then you sure as hell you're panicking now.

"Oh you know hell what I'm implying"

Genshin Character Names' Meanings

Hello there! So, I remember I once saw a post about meanings of some characters' names in another fandom, and while some of those names probably were given to those characters just because they fit, some of them certainly were chosen for their meaning, and well, it was just interesting to read! And yeah, here I am, in today's series of "I have freaking nothing else to do" I brought you a list of meanings for Genshin characters' names (today only Travelers and Mondstadt).

Kong (Chinese Aether) | «Heavenly», «Air» or «Sky» - Chinese Name

Ying (Chinese Lumine) | Literally «Glimmer», «Twinkling» or «Light» in Chinese and a Chinese Name

Sora (Japanese Aether) | Literally «Sky» in Japanese and a Japanese Name

Hotaru (Japanese Lumine) | Literally «Firefly» in Japanese and a Japanese Name

Paimon | Comes from King Paimon, the 9th of Goetia Demons 

Amber | Well, in her case it obviously references her eyes that carry that color, and it is also similar to the word «ember», which underlines her being a Pyro wielder; Also «Fierce» as an originally Arabic or Celtic Name

Jean | «God is Gracious» - Originally French Name

Barbara | Although in our world it is believed to come from barbarians, in context of Genshin she might've been named so after Barbatos, the Archon rulling over her nation. It also makes sense considering how her father also serves at the church; Also «Foreign», «Strange» as an originally Greek Name

Diluc | Comes from «diluculum» - Latin for «Dawn»

Noelle | «Christmas» - Originally French Name

Klee | Literally «Clover» in German

Albedo | Term for the fraction of sunlight that is diffusely reflected by a body; also a Latinicized alchemical term meaning «Whiteness» and «Purification»

Sucrose | A chemical element, also known as C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁, or just sugar

Mona | «Solitary», «Adviser» or «Wish» - German Name

And I have to admit that those are not names of my homeland, and I may not know all their variations or significance, yet I'm still interested, and I'll be happy if you're willling to correct me. And maybe I will even dig in deeper into the topic next time!

I’m a sucker for abo dynamics so that last post was right up my alley! Could you do headcannons for each guy in the pack and what being their mate specifically is like?

Absolutely!!! I wasn't sure if you wanted it to just be the social abo dynamics I was doing for that post or sexual abo dynamics (like omegas going into heat and getting pregnant), so if you want it to be the second one just send another ask and I'll gladly do that too~

Also this is more general "being their mate" headcanons, but I can definitely write spicier ones too >;3c

Jack:

Jack is a dedicated and loving mate

When you're with him, it's impossible to question his love for you

He's always curled up around you or bringing you gifts or making sure your little section of the den is nice

He gets protective over you, of course! You're his mate, it only makes sense that he would

But he's not aggressive about it. He's not going to raise his hackles and growl, he's not going to put up a physical fight if one of the others tries to take you from him

No, no. He's got other ways of making them back off. From bringing up his polite concerns to Joseph that whoever's trying to take you from him is stirring up trouble in the pack, to making sure they're kept too busy with other tasks to talk to you

Whatever it takes, he'll do it, to keep the others away from you. You're his mate, and he's not about to give you up

You should expect to spend your nights curled up in his arms. He won't stand for you sleeping anywhere but right beside him

He may not be an overly violent werewolf, but he does like to show off for you! He'll carry you on his back with ease, he'll lift heavy things, he'll catch plenty of prey to cook up for dinner

All he asks of you as his mate is to be his

He's very aware of his position as one of the two omegas of the pack

He's the smallest and weakest one there, which means if one of them wants to steal his mate, well... he wouldn't be able to do much about it

So he gets very paranoid and possessive. If he sees you so much as talking with one of the others, he'll need lots of reassurance that you still want to be his mate

He often gets left behind when the others go out hunting, which suits him just fine. It means he gets to spend more time with you!

And while he doesn't have many wolf skills to show off with, he does like to prove himself as a good domestic partner by helping keep the den clean

He's very clingy, especially when the others are around. When it's just the two of you in the den, he'll give you space, but when they're back he's all over you

He's gotten into more than one scrap with Bo because he growls a bit when anyone gets close to you, and Bo can't turn down a challenge

The fights never go well for him. Literally any of the others can and will kick his ass if they feel it's necessary

Be prepared to have to tend to his wounds quite often. Between his fights with Bo, his difficulties with hunting, and his general clumsiness, he gets injured a lot

He's a very loving mate, as long as you're okay with reaffirming your love for him very frequently

Shaun:

Shaun is the most catlike werewolf you can imagine

Seriously, werewolves aren't meant to be able to purr, but whenever he's with you he sounds like a motor

Sometimes the others will tease you or him for it, but they know not to push it too far. He may be sweet and funny, but he can fight if he wants to

He doesn't get too outwardly jealous. The others can talk to you without a problem, so long as they're respectful

He feels bad about how often he's out of the den and away from you. He's one of the better hunters in the group, so if they want meat for dinners then he's gotta be out

But he always makes it up to you when he gets back! He'll kiss you and snuggle you and tell you all about what he got up to during the hunt! Usually with plenty of embellishment to make it sound more interesting and dangerous than it actually was...

Generally being his mate is a lot chiller than being anyone else's mate. He's good about trusting you and giving you space, as long as you always come back to him at the end of the day

He's much more concerned about keeping you safe from the outside world than from his packmates. He knows what it's like out there, he doesn't want you getting hurt

As long as you're safe in his arms at the end of the night, he's happy

Nick:

He's by far the best fighter in the pack

He's not the biggest or the strongest, but he's lean and quick

This means he doesn't have to worry about the others trying to steal you from him. They're not about to take that risk. He's usually pretty calm and no one wants to make him mad

He's a pretty lazy wolf, all things considered. Mostly because he spends so much energy on hunts. He spends the rest of the time sort of lounging around the den with you

His favourite way to relax is with you curled up against him. Whether he's in wolf form or human form, he likes to have you on top of him

He's a very affectionate mate with no concern for pda. If he wants to kiss you, he'll kiss you. If he wants to hold you, he'll hold you. If he wants to whisper teasingly in your ear... well, you get the idea

He may not be up for helping with chores, but any chores you do he'll praise you plenty for! He does genuinely appreciate the work you do to keep the den nice for everyone

He'll often bring back feathers or flowers or pretty rocks for you to decorate your shared little area of the den with

He gets very agitated whenever someone new comes near the den. His top priority in life is protecting you, so he's constantly looking out for threats

Being Nick's mate means lifelong love and protection

Joseph:

Being the Alpha's mate is complicated

On the one hand, you get the best of everything. The best cuts of meat, the best area of the den to sleep in, the best blankets and everything

On the other hand, when one of the others is angling to make another bid for Alpha, you have to deal with them threatening to take you as their prize as well

But Joseph never sees you as a prize. He doesn't take you for granted or assume you're with him because he's the Alpha

He loves you, he cares about you, and ever since the day you arrived he's made the effort to get to know you. To learn about who you are deep down

But he will use his status as Alpha to pamper and spoil you. He can't help himself! He wants you to have all the best things, and if he needs to throw his authority around to get that for you then he will

He's away from the den the most often. He wants to earn his position and make sure he's not slacking just because he's in charge. So when he is around, he just wants to spend all his time with you

He'll just follow you around while you do chores, like he's a lost puppy. He'll rest his chin on your shoulder if you're standing still, or gaze lovingly at you if you're moving around. He's so soft for you, and the others all see it

If anyone does try to take you from him, he'll fight immediately. He won't hesitate. He's not about to let anyone take you away from him

Your Alpha loves you more than anything

Jean:

Jean might be an omega, but he does not act like one

He carries himself with all the confidence of an Alpha

This also means that he treats you like the mate of an Alpha, not an omega. He pampers and spoils you rotten, both to prove that he can and because you deserve it

He likes to show you off. He wants you on his arm or in his lap or just generally with him at all times, so none of the others can possibly forget who you're mated with

He's another one who gets into fights with Bo over you. Partially because Bo just loves to antagonise people and partially because Jean is so aggressively possessive over you

He doesn't mind that he doesn't go out hunting as often as some of the others. It just gives him more time to enjoy being with you

He's also kind of a lazy bastard, but unlike Nick he doesn't have a good excuse for it. He just likes to nap with you in his arms, curled protectively around you

He's a biter. He wants to mark you as his, so he'll leave bitemarks all over you. Being his mate means being his chew toy as well

He's more territorial than the rest, so once you start staying in his part of the den with him, he refuses to let anyone else in

Jean is a very loyal and possessive mate

Bo:

Bo is by far one of the strongest in the pack. His raw strength is unrivalled

That is... when he's in his wolf form. In his human form, he's much smaller than a lot of the others in the pack

He's got a bit of a complex about it, so he'll go to you for comfort and reassurance that he's a very big, scary, strong wolf!

He can get very handsy when he's feeling threatened. When he thinks one of the others is trying to take you from him, he's all over you. He wants to prove to everyone that you're his mate

He's also very fighty. He'll challenge anyone who tries to get too close to you or tries to take you from him. This includes Nick, he's the only one stupid enough to challenge Nick, but only for you

He really likes hearing stories of your life before you joined them. He'll rest his head in your lap and ask you to tell him stories while you brush your fingers through his hair

He's always sort of considered going off solo for a while. Especially now that he has you, he'd love to run off with you. But at heart, he knows he wouldn't do well without his pack

At the end of the day, your safety is more important to him than anything. He'll swallow his pride and ask someone else to watch over you for him if he has to be gone for a long while

Whenever he comes back to the den, you're the first thing he checks on. He goes straight to you before anything else

Be prepared for a very hotheaded and intense mate

Projekt Red: Desire for connection and her relationship with Kal'tsit and Grandma.

So originally this was going to just be about Red's relationship with Kal'tsit but thinking about it, I decided I wanted to discuss many other facets of Red when it comes to her connections with other people.

But without further ado:

Setting the scene.

Firstly I want to discuss the possible themes of family and accompanying themes for Siracusa and particularly Lupos.

Nothing illustrates it better than the founding story of Siracusa: the story of the She-Wolf, which takes inspiration from Rome's founding story of Romulus and Remus. A story that ends with Romulus killing his brother Remus, which I say for a reason.

From Rewinding Breeze's Stories from the Sky, it goes as such:

I want to specifically point out the final line of this cropped version: "From then on, Lupos stopped separating themselves into tribes, and called each other family instead."

The story of the She-Wolf and founding of Siracusa is specifically connected to family and Lupos and I think that the state of the She-Wolf's family is echoed in other Lupo's families. Maybe not purposefully but the inversion of wolves, known for their packs is what I imagine they're going for.

But to call attention to Lupos with strained families or connected to lonliness:

Texas's Father killed her Grandfather, leading to the destruction of the Texas family which she herself just watched, tired of it all and before meeting Emperor was alone thereafter.

Lappland hates her Father more than anything else but Siracusa, with her cutting ties with him entirely after Il Siracusano and him vowing to kill her if they meet again. Also due to her exile she's described as a Lone Wolf.

The Bellone family falls apart in Il Siracusano, with several betrayals and rifts caused throughout the event.

Capone and Gambino, once sworn brothers, become enemies in Code of Brawl.

Gertrude suffered abuse from her father and killed her brother, living and dying alone thereafter.

Pozyomka's whole family was murdered right in front of her, leading to her distrusting the surface and fleeing alone till finding a home with the Durin, though with undeniable differences between them.

Horn is implied to dislike her Father's action but her story following Episode 9, wherein she loses her whole squad but Bagpipe, became Dublinn's prisoner and survived alone in Londinium's sewers with only Metal Crabs as company hones in more on the loneliness.

Crownslayer's parents dying in the Chernobog sarcophagus purge. Reunion falling and then Red killing her mentor, leaving her with no one.

But there's one I left out in this for the sake of focusing on it.

Kinship.

This is Red's Trust 1 and 2 voicelines, Both portray her loneliness and call to two different things. I'll get onto her Trust 2 in a bit but for Red's Trust 1, it shows that whereas where other Lupos or Siracusans have turmoil with their families, either having them be strained, broken or dead, Red doesn't have a family.

Now, it is mentioned in Red's file 4 the existence of someone called Grandma who is responsible for why Red is the way she is, having been the one to raise her, uh, "raise her" before Kal'tsit.

Il Siracusano reveals the existence of beings known as the Signore dei Lupi who are Lupine Beast Lords like Emperor or Gawain and revealing that Grandma is one of them as well as what she expects from Red. Basically, the Signore dei Lupi each have a Fang that they train to kill the other Signore dei Lupi's Fangs. Red is Grandma's Fang.

The Signore dei Lupi claim territory in the wastes of Siracusa. Red's module confirms that this is where Red was trained in the least but as Il Siracusano introduces Lunacub, another Fang who only knows the wilderness and has no family like Red, it can be inferred that Red too was raised away from society, in the wilderness only knowing Grandma.

But even with Lunacub sharing almost the same upbringing that Red did there's a profound difference in how they were raised by their respective Signore dei Lupi. One that results in Lunacub being more capable and sociable than Red.

As said, Red has many problems. She's stated to have both educational as well as social problems. She cuts anything that gets close to her. I believe that her speech is broken (more evident in CN text if I'm right). And has limited empathy.

And as illustrated by her Trust 2:

She has a yearning to bond with other Lupos specifically it appears from this and her module which includes a ball made of fur specifically mentioned to be for when there's no Lupo tails to touch. Which, her wanting to bond with others would make sense.

There's a theme with Red's Trust lines where each line she doesn't take a hard stance on, moreso questioning or confused by something whether it's the importance of family, why she's being avoided or what her life could've been if she wasn't a Wolf Hunter i.e. met Grandma.

The final line of her Trust 3 is the Doctor asking Red to answer the question herself, which I think calls back to her module that really hammers in that Red struggles thinking for herself:

Something that Kal'tsit recognizes and points out herself:

So I see Red's Trust lines as her not being able to understand what she's feeling, the best she can do is to question things that she has feelings about deep down or have deeper meaning to her that she's not aware of.

Being that if she wasn't a Wolf Hunter she could have lived a happier life. She maybe would've had a family of her own. Could approach and befriend other Lupos. Have a bond with others, something that she can't at the moment.

I feel that Red's targeting of Lupos in her Trust 2 is for sure because of Siracusa's emphasis on Lupos and between the She-Wolf & her children and the Signore dei Lupi there is an emphasis on Wolves sticking together.

There's also something specifically with Red, cause the Signore dei Lupi as far as we've seen only have Lupos as their Fangs which on top of the emphasis on Lupos and wolf packs actually goes a level deeper due to two points:

I made a whole post about this but basically: Zaaro demonstrates the same or near identical ability as Red scaring Lupos and Vigil describes it as "kinship" and in the second and third images through Ho'olheyak we learn that Kukulkans and likely all Ancients were originally actual creatures.

So Lupos likely were originally actual Wolves, with the Signore dei Lupi or rather Lupine Beast Lords were kin with in some way or another and able to exert power over them through kinship, like Zaaro demonstrates in that image.

But also likely what Red is doing to scare Lupos, which is tragic. She wants kinship with her fellow Lupos but if I'm correct with this, then unbeknownst to her she has stronger kinship with them than any other Lupo and it's exactly why they're terrified of her.

Also a side note, I do wonder if in IS-ST-4 Red sees Crownslayer as someone she's somewhat fine with and if it's a result of Crownslayer being a Lupo by her account.

Cause there's "Is she your Kal'tsit?" which I'll delve into, but her expression is a happy one as opposed to her resting one for the rest of the conversation and in general she feels too casual.

But that's just a thought. Now, onto the next part:

Grandma and Kal'tsit.

"I do as Grandma/Kal'tsit says"

It's the exact same thing for both of them and by all means it should be. Grandma and Kal'tsit are the people who raised Red, albeit one better than the other.

With the minimal knowledge that Kal'tsit has about Grandma she suspects her to be responsible for the problems Red has that Rhodes has laid out in her files:

As I showed before, Grandma only taught Red what Grandma deemed Red would need to know to accomplish what Grandma wanted before throwing her into a traumatic experience and then doing it again:

And as the end of that paragraph, the way that Grandma raised Red, what she threw her into again and again would have killed her in some way if it wasn't for Kal'tsit.

Now, this is where our information about Grandma dries up as she's not mentioned in Il Siracusano outside of that one screenshot and we don't yet know how Kal'tsit met Red but what we do know is what Kal'tsit did upon meeting her:

Kal'tsit saw the problems that Red has and like Rosmontis, probably recognized how severe they were and decided to provide her with shelter in exchange for Red aiding Rhodes Island through her combat skills.

We also know that Rhodes Island put Red through several tests, likely headed by Kal'tsit herself who we also know tried coming up with several contingencies before scrapping them, destroying test data and classifying a lot of information regarding Red because of the severity and delicate nature of her situation.

But while there's nothing that she can do and by extension Rhodes, she still tries to help Red, whether by teaching her outright like the homework she gets her to do or by teaching her moral lessons which I believe she does in 6-11 after Crownslayer leaves.

Kal'tsit puts in a lot of effort to help Red which really contrasts Grandma's lack of care or affection or help. If Grandma had done much of anything then Red wouldn't have the problems she does, she like Lunacub could've known care and affection and end up better because of it.

But Red, the awful experiences she's gone through, how even now she struggles and doesn't know how to do a lot of things and yearns for affection from other Lupos, is because of how Grandma raised her.

And now Kal'tsit is doing her best to help Red, despite likely knowing that Red will one day leave and that Kal'tsit can't do much to help her and that it's up to Red to help herself at the end of the day. She put in a lot of effort for her.

How Red feels about Kal'tsit on the other hand I feel is quite complicated.

A lot of the time when Red talks or thinks about Kal'tsit it's what Kal'tsit has done for her or their agreement. There's not anything so much resembling the worry Kal'tsit puts in for her. Which I think isn't for lack of care for Kal'tsit.

Going back to how Red says she does what Grandma says and Kal'tsit says in the same way, right?

Red struggles to think for herself. It's what her Trust lines are about. It's what Kal'tsit sees that Red needs to do in her File 4. It's what her module is about. But Red can't and it's the basis of her relationship with Grandma, which is the only one that she knew for ages.

Grandma would teach her something, expecting her to accomplish it and then Red would be thrown out to do it. Likely this repeated and Red came to rely on Grandma to know what to do and not yet having learnt to be autonomous, Red now leans on Kal'tsit in a similar way.

Red doesn't know what it's like to have a parent or a friend, she only knows a master and while I'm sure Kal'tsit tries to not have their relationship be that, Red is the one who sees it as such.

But I think like the Trust lines being Red's attempt of touching upon deeper feelings, I think Red holds that care for Kal'tsit but she knows no different than how she acted with Grandma but it comes through. In it's own way.

And here is where I leave this off because sadly the state Red is in right now isn't the most happy state but I hope you enjoyed reading. Red's got a lot of developing to do for her eventual event and I cannot wait to see what happens between her and Grandma and hopefully Kal'tsit.

I just deem their relationship as really really important and while I'm sure Red will get closer to others in her event, Kal'tsit is so important I hope it's shone some light on in the event itself or an oprec or module.

I full heartedly believe there COULD be a chance she started her research with good intentions. Whether that be just to learn, or to help khaneri'ah as a whole I have no clue, but. But at this state; you CANNNOT tell me she's redeemable anymore.

She has not only fed multiple of her children she deemed failures to another one, but she has very clearly traumatized every single one of them in ways that probably aren't something family therapy will do much good for. And even though for the most part a lot of her creations still look up to her (I.E; durin, elynas, wolf lord, and albedo (??) ) it's obviously a very toxic sense of idolization since. no hate. but listening to the way durin and elynas describe her make me very iffy on if shes the greatest mother out there LMAO I know the forbidden knowledge & fontaine story quest are obviously setting up for Rhine's character. She probably acquired or even acted as the catalyst to forbidden knowledge in teyvat; and the idea of a human being made immortal while having none of the bandwith to handle it. But dear god if they actually try making her like. forgivable by moral standards. I will cry. Tears will stream down my face and I will leave my life as it is to become a bee keeper somewhere in the south to cope.

Even if Hoyo wants her to be playable; it'd be far smarter for them to have it in the same sense of her and the traveler coming to some mutual benefit of each other. It makes me very happy that a few of you were actually interested in the music I posted yesterday, @quintalon since IRL i don't have any metalhead friends, but I do love to talk about it, so here's a quick rec list :)

Spoiler. It wasn't quick.

Fair warning, lots of non-english speaking bands here, and also probably a lot of overlap in the artists in the bands, because them promoting their side projects would have been how I found out about them in the first place. Also, god help me, I just absolutely love weird music.

Feuerschwanz. Same singer as in d'Artagnan, probably equal amounts of serious music as absolutely absurd stuff, but stupid talented all the same. On a related note, I'll save you the trouble of translating. It means fire dick.

Pirate metal, does what it says on the tin, generally very silly, kinda like the Pirates of the Caribbean music with electric guitar and A LOT of swearing. Some cool sea shanty vibes. Lots of generally good times.

Paddy and the Rats. Also vaguely piratey, I like the sound though.

Dark Side of the Moon (band, not Pink Floyd album). First Light

Russkaja. More Polka/ ska vibes than traditional folky sound, but some of the most gloriously weird music i've ever heard. Before anyone says anything, they use Soviet imagery and some Russian language, but they are and have always been hardcore anti-war, and the band members are from all over Europe.

These will both have you saying 'wtf am i putting in my ears right now?' hopefully in a good way. Shapka and Energia.

Wind Rose. Dwarf metal. Someone said that the song i posted earlier sounded like a metal band in middle earth, well these guys literally sing about Erebor and Durin and whatnot. Nerdy AF, obviously.

Saltatio Mortis. My Mother Told Me

The HU. Mongolian folk metal. Incredibly atmospheric.

it would also be so epic to have mutations like having a piebald pup!! aionguedbhklwsuv i have SOOO MANY IDEAS like a 'rp mode' in multiplayer servers where ur able to play as a puppy or special rp-only emotes like stretching, shaking or play fighting/roughhousing! and maybe even splitting players into diff packs (maybe being able to attack the other players- if in a diff pack XD)
