Longwythe, World of Ruin. When Noctis returns from the crystal you get a glimpse of Longwythe as Talcott drives past on the way to Hammerhead, but I wanted to see more.  After arriving in Hammerhead I used the God Mode mod to travel back and explore the area.   The Crow’s Nest looks a mess from the outside with daemons prowling around,  a seemingly drunken Kenny Crow on the bench and the scattered clothes of daemonified people on the ground.  The inside, however remains untouched.  The JM5 machines are up and running (although the game crashes if you try to play them) and there is even fresh food on the counter.  You won’t get any service though, the place is completely deserted. Across the road the Triple Z Motel is also unchanged.  The front desk stands empty but you wouldn’t want to spend the night there with so many daemons around.

Read Wane on AO3 written for @promnis-week
They never broke up, not really. They just stopped.
Ignis withdrew, Prompto didn’t know how to reach out. Noctis was gone and Gladio was never good at playing mediator, couldn’t think up the soft words they both needed to start talking though Prompto knows they could have gotten a happier ending if they could just find any kind of beginning.
“I was angrier than I could admit, about what happened. To myself—to you and Noctis. You needed kindness,” Ignis whispers. “A softness I was not yet capable of offering.”
“I needed you.”
“I’ve been right here,” Ignis says.
“You sent me away,” Prompto argues.
“You asked if I thought you should go.”
Alternatively: It’s been six years since their last kiss, but Prompto’s feelings haven’t changed.

Despite Prompto's best efforts to keep it together, he’s crying. Sobbing. Curling up under the blanket like he used to when the darkness first happened. Like he has ever since Noctis disappeared. It feels like it’s been an eternity but it’s just been over a year. One year and three months. Four hundred and fifty six days. Ten thousand, nine hundred and forty four hours. Six hundred fifty six thousand, six hundred forty minutes.

Cindy was a mechanic.
Prompto was supposed to be a Magitek machine.
He bites his lip. It’s enough to taste the faint copper of blood. He treads along the edge of considering revealing more about himself than he ever intended on this brief stay at Hammerhead.
Or: When Prompto tries to give Ignis some space during the Long Night, he winds up in Hammerhead with a familiar blonde mechanic.
Story of a slice-of-life collection about the developing friendship of Argentum and Aurum, bonding over broken machines and their own broken pieces, during the World of Ruin.
WIP!! ⚠️ updates are up this week!
Chapter 4: Radiator Leaks Summary—
Radiator leaks are almost always caused by corrosion, though they can also be caused by poor maintenance, manufacturing defects, or poor-quality engine fluids. The Argentum family's love and trust have long since rusted out.
Or: Prompto ruminates about his origins and his adoptive family.
Chapter 5: Shock Absorbers Summary—
Shock absorbers are the suspension system in your car that helps stabilize it while you drive; you get a smooth ride and you’re not bouncing around every time you hit a bump or dip.
Or: Familiar faces meet once again. Aranea delivers her brand of tough love. Cindy has a realization.

Cyan’s WoR Story
Act 4, Chapter 2 - Part 2 of Opera Omnia is rather intense with the Clerra hints.
Terra says something peculiar, and since she says it with Vincent and Eiko in the scene I feel like I have to post the translation.
Terra: “But I want to believe in inevitability. My esper father and my human mother met beyond the boundaries of their world. Maybe I was born to connect the two races with this power I was struggling with...I'm ready to move forward.”
This scene is all about finding someone to love (the whole chapter is about loving someone, tbh), so in essence, that’s what Terra’s talking about here. It’s not really clear with just this line alone, so I’ll put the line that she’s responding to below (which comes before a line by Vincent, who always portends Clerra-related storylines in DFFOO):
Chelinka: “Hmm, maybe it hasn't clicked for me yet, but someday I'll meet someone like my mom and dad, and just "know"!   But...isn't that an incredible miracle? My mom was a priestess, so she could see it, but for normal people, depending on the world's situation and position, there are times when you can't fall in love, right?”
A few scenes later Cyan will recall his World of Ruin story...
Cyan: Yes...I once encouraged a girl who had lost the will to live after losing her lover. She looked so haggard...but when she talked about her memories of love, she looked lively and I felt relieved.
The FF6 Opera was more informative, so I just kinda ignored Cyan’s story, but it’s now time to mention it. Here’s Cyan’s letter:
Dear Lola,
I’m writing to beg for your forgiveness. I am guilty of perpetuating a terrible lie. I have only now realized the error of my ways, and taken up this quill in hopes of correcting a great wrong. Your boyfriend, who you believed to be in Mobliz, passed away some time ago. I have been writing to you in his stead. We humans have a tendency to become trapped in the past and refuse to move on. I implore you not to let this happen. Now is a time for you to look forward, and rediscover love and all of the other joys of life...
Cyan
The hint that this is “secretly” about Terra and the cut main character are the flowers surrounding the letter, since it’s clear that the “filling the world with flowers” dream was a original story element from FF6 involving Terra and the cut main character. It’s very easy to see, and I’m sure a lot of stuff in FF6 has this "missing main character storyline” rhetoric. It’s interesting that Cyan mentions the guy as being in Mobliz, since that’s where Terra’s World of Ruin story takes place and where you get the Fenrir esper, which I know was always supposed to be for Cloud (thanks to the similarities with Squall’s Griever).
At this point when FF6 was released, I don’t think they had any plans to “reunite” the main character and Terra (Square was struggling when they made FF7)...Nomura decided on that during FF7′s production as they were almost going to give Cloud a different love interest (it was an early form of Aerith). Nomura’s decision to instead put the original FF6 main character in the game as Cloud gave birth to Zack. The FF6 Opera does hint of the possibility of a reunion at the end of its translations, but the FF7 Remake makes it apparent that Terra’s not the one going to wait (”Hollow” lyrics are a good example).
Tumblr media
This line Cyan says gives me “Loveless” vibes, and on that note, Crisis Core devs decided to specifically include the last line from Loveless’ ending (originally said by Cid at the end of OG FF7):
Went to see LOVELESS From: Kunsel
Contents:
Genesis, K.I.A? Yeah, right. Who do they think they're trying to fool? Just got back from seeing the stage production of LOVELESS in Midgar. Genesis was a big fan, wasn't he? I usually don't care for classic drama, but it was pretty damned good. The guy is the hero in the original, but the play was more from the viewpoint of the girl who helps the guy. When I heard that last line: "Of course... I'll come back to you. Even if you don't promise to wait. I'll return knowing that you'll be here." Aw, man, that's when I lost it and just started bawling. Received: After being promoted to 1st.
It’s surprising how many Final Fantasy games have this rhetoric, but it is in essence about Cloud and Terra or a product of what happened to them. Yet, despite all their hinting in a bucket-load of games, no one seems to “get the hint”.
By the way, when I put the bold over “The guy is the hero in the original”, I realized that many people take these story elements too literally. Sure, you can assume that Square-Enix is creating “new intriguing stories”, but this isn’t what’s happening. Why would they say “The guy is the hero in the original”? The original line literally came from the end of FF7 and had nothing to do with Genesis’ gibberish. It’s about Cloud and Terra, no joking, period.

So I was just busy typing in tags for my FFXV Fic when I accidentally added a tag called ‘Falling in Love at the end of the World’ and just instantly went yes.
Imagine a world where the long Night still approaches, but the prophecy was never made. A world where the Lucis Caelums never ruled with as much power as they do in canon and the Amicitia’s became Hunters instead of Shields for the royal family. A world where Ignis is an Altissian Noble and Prompto was never allowed into Insomnia.
Thus the Chocobros never met or became a royal retinue. Until the apocalypse begins to descend upon the world that is.
Then as four lonely survivors they meet each other. Each struggling to face the looming darkness, as the sunlight slowly begins to disappear. Slowly their bonds become unbreakable as they find solace in one another and learn how to not only survive but thrive in this new world of ruin. They gave each other a purpose, a reason to go on. They found the will to continue fighting in a world that seemed destined to end.
They grew to love each other.

T, gen, Action/Adventure, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, chapter 1 of... probably a lot, BUCKLE UP.
This is always how it was going to end. His friends are doing their best to sleep on the floor of the hold in Aranea's airship, but Noct gave up on rest hours ago. Instead, he's propped up to lean against the cold steel wall of the hold, letting that inevitability resonate inside him, like he's a bell that's been rung. He can feel the muted vibrations of the Magitek engine, too, as it brings them ever closer to Lestallum. They’d picked the city as their destination immediately as they'd fled from Gralea; it’s got the most lights, the most people, makes the most sense. (Hopefully, Iris is back there, too. Gladio’s not sure where she and Talcott went after they’d parted at Cape Caem.) Aranea and Wedge are in the front cabin’s more comfortable quarters. One or two of them could have fit there comfortably, too, but like hell were any of them gonna be apart. That had gone without saying. Read more >>

Description: Back then Ignis wouldn't have called Ravus a friend, let alone a lover. Now he did.
All things have a starting point.
Ignis simply wished for his travels to stop starting with the world in peril and a broken car.

Flowers don't bloom in the dark
Originally written December 19, 2021
He’s not dead, I’ll promise to myself, just gone for a while.
If only I could shake this ache hollowing out my bones.
The worst of days, in the beginning at least, it simply consumes me.
Rage brewed within me and took him from me, not long before everyone else too.
A Shield protects at any and all cost, what happens when no one’s behind it?
It’s only the memory of him powering these weak bones when everyone leaves.
More and more the darkness brews closer to my heart, my home.
I’ll fight it, inch by inch by inch until there’s enough room in this world for him again.
I was too much, he did it alone because of me.
The ache he left behind is a void like any other, and in such dire times it needs filled.
Eos needs a shield. My dearest Iris grows day by day but teaching her to fight reminds me too much of the old days, when he was young and petulant.
I cannot look anyone we knew in the eyes, so I found myself a refuge in strangers.
More often than not in their beds as well. The sheets too soft, the ceiling too close.
All alone in the cold of night, I’ll imagine him alone in the crystal.
This rage that hurt him, that hurts everyone who gets close has some semblance of a use.
I will shield them, I will maw those who would kill the one hope of his return.
I was not expecting the return of the dawn to be so literal.

Prompto doesn’t really like beer — he’s ever only drunk it once before and that was with sweet enough company to mask the bitter taste. It’s even worse now, too old to really think about, the label on the bottle barely orange anymore, though the brand’s signature sun is still apparent.
Not just worse company this time, but no company at all. The past few years they made sure to be together but maybe that’s harder than this. Maybe Ignis and Gladio are together without him.
Prompto shakes his head, dragging his nail over the edge of the label. He spoke to Ignis just this morning — there’s no way. He needs to stop letting himself thinking this way.
A fire burns warmly before him, embers glowing in the murky gloom of a world always at night. The end of August but the weather’s been the same for six years now — a world so different from six years ago but each day feels like the same now, over and over again with no end in sight.
Twenty-seven.
What would they be doing for Noct’s twenty-seventh birthday if things were different?
Sleeping, probably, if Noct had his way. A late start, a morning game with maybe something gross for breakfast. Definitely a nap after. Noct always said that his favourite time to sleep is when he’s supposed to be awake.
Except — there’s no way of knowing what Noctis would be like today if he hadn’t disappeared. No way to know what he’ll be like if — when, when, when — he returns.
Prompto will love him. Wholeheartedly with no qualifiers, unconditional and eternal no matter what may or may not come. That’s never going to change, has been a thing since he was eighteen years old — maybe earlier, except he never said it aloud. It’s an almost desperate kind of devotion, sometimes, with no means for outlet while Noct is gone. Everything Prompto wants to say or do burns and festers in his chest until he’s sick and heavy with the pain of missing him.
They only shared one of Noct’s birthdays as a couple, right after Prompto started sleeping over — again. There had been a temporary halt to sleepovers while they got their footing in the new tilt to their relationship. They shared bedrooms and even beds when they were friends, keeping an awkward arm’s width between them and pretending to be asleep as they stared at opposite walls.
On Noctis’ twentieth birthday, Prompto wiggled out of Noct’s octopus grip to heat up an ungodly number of pop tarts, all fanned out on a plate and delivered to Noctis with a glass of the cheap, mostly artificial orange juice he preferred.
Prompto kind of hates pop tarts, but he’d give anything to eat one now — to share one during this night.
With a sigh, Prompto pours some of the beer onto the smooth stone at his side. It’s mostly gone flat by now, but it still manages to fizz slightly as it hits the ground.
“Happy birthday, Noct,” Prompto says into the quiet air.
