You know I respect that different people can enjoy different things. But I always wonder about the people who enjoy Jack Slash. Do they think Worm would be improved if Greg Veder was a major character responsible for several major plot points while he constantly awkwardly tries to hit on Taylor (and Lisa), only for the "big reveal" being that he was exactly the cliche he looked like: a slightly weird boring guy who really wanted to fuck Taylor (or Lisa)

This mezcal-tamarind cocktail awakens your inner shaman (or at least gives you existential chills). Worm salt rim, smoky whispers, and tangy mysteries — sip and ponder life's big questions (or how to fold a sheet). Prepare for the weird and wonderful.

A few thoughts about Crosshair's and Hunter's argument on Barton-IV in "The Return" -
- I completely sympathize with Hunter reaching his breaking point and demanding answers. Unlike us, Hunter had no idea what Crosshair had been through - the last he had personally seen of Crosshair before the prodigal brother unexpectedly turned up with Omega, his brother had been acting violent and unpredictable (to say the least), and had literally said that if the rest of the squad didn't join the Empire, he considered them his enemies.
- At the same time, Hunter had no idea what Crosshair had been through that led him to Tantiss, and he pushed before Crosshair was ready to talk... With the result that Crosshair, understandably, became angry and defensive and lashed out. (Come on, Hunter, what else did you expect?)
- When first watching the episode, as Crosshair began blaming Hunter for Omega's imprisonment, I was bracing myself for the inevitability of Crosshair blaming Hunter for Tech's death... And was so relieved but also very surprised that he didn't cross that line. Now, I am convinced that the reason Crosshair didn't hold Hunter responsible for Tech's death, was because Crosshair completely blamed himself for it.
- Given the above, I'm also wondering if that's why Crosshair was so quick to find a way to change the subject when Echo mentioned Tech, yet spent a meaningful moment honoring Mayday: painful though Mayday's loss had been, Crosshair had done all he could to save him. But he hadn't been there to help the squad and try to prevent Tech's death - indeed, he was the main reason (not the only reason, but the main reason) the squad had been on Eriadu in the first place. (You know one thing that would have made this interpretation of events even clearer? One small moment (a Mayday moment, if you will) of all Tech's brothers honoring him at the end of the show, where Crosshair and the others finally get some real closure over Tech's death. And no, I'm never letting this point go. Ever. Mini-rant over.)

“What is a life? A series of yeses and noes, photographs you shove in a drawer somewhere, loves you think will save you but that cannot. Continuing to move, enduring, not stopping even when there is pain. That's all life is, he wants to tell her. It's continuing.” ― Hala Alyan, Salt Houses

Hey what if we left people the fuck alone when it comes to their ships, yeah? Let people enjoy what they want to enjoy in this bleak fucking world instead of barging in with some lame and unneeded moral grandstanding. "UMM actually here's why your ship is problematic 🤓" how about we stop being judge-y and self righteous instead? What are you a cop? Because policing someone's ship in your 30's is embarrassing
If someone wants to ship their OCs with a certain dynamic or with a specific type of character, then that's FINE. Stop being a clown and vague posting about them. Unless there is something obviously wrong (i.e. underage and so on), your opinion need not be expressed in the most bitch-coded vaguepost

One issue I have with the whole 'Wildbow said Aura Theory isn't True' is that the whole theory comes from, or at least got big, because of a comment he made in reply to a fan comment.
Now, I have read a reddit thread where he said something to the effect of 'I was tired, not paying attention and didn't give the right answer' or something to that effect. And like...
Okay, fine. He made a mistake. Took him three years to notice and correct it, or something like that, but fine.
But that calls into question literally any other Word of God statement he's ever provided, at least in answer to a question or comment. Because he could have bene tired and not paying attention and given a wrong answer then.
And since so much of the wormverse is understood through WoG because of the tight confines of much of both Worm and Ward in terms of POV, that means... a lot of what we think we know about the Wormverse could be 100% wrong.
Like, how many landmines are littered around in his WoG that he's never caught because they never caught on, never became popular fic trends or correcting them never became central to a sequel or later part of the work?
At that point, should we care about his WoG at all, when he could just reveal he was wrong?
Like, to be clear, I don't think Aura Theory is a necessary explanation for Amy's obsession with Victoria. Nor do I think, even if it was true, it would actually mean Amy didn't still actively choose (albeit while in the midst of a psychological break after the sort of shit that would break most people under the sort of stress she was under).
I do think Aura theory is interesting, and it's worth exploring in a fanfic (because fanfics can be 'hey, what if X that isn't true in canon was'), and I wish there wasn't a contingent of fans quite so rabid about constantly screeching 'it's not canon' anytime it comes up in discussion, but...
Really. Either Wildbow just up and retconned the Aura or he doesn't police his WoG properly and it calls everything else he's ever said into doubt, unless it's specifically backed up by material in the text that can be taken as 100% unbiased/reliable.
Or we can just not care about WoG at all, which is really the best way to do things in almost every fandom, because ultimately:
If It's Necessary To Understand The Work, A Character In Said Work Or To Understand the Intent Of A Scene, It Should Be In The Work Itself.

every time i see someone claim the ancients were a magical indigenous utopia to aspire to (with 'a few little problems'), and any criticism of them as a society is apologia for native genocide, i clutch my head in agony. never change, twitter
#FF tag#ffxivtag#racism cw#anti-indigenous racism cw#there's just. there's so much. there's So Much#there's so much here that is just utterly balls out offensive in just. every direction and is in fact! incredibly anti-indigenous!#every time i start trying to summarize even one of them it turns into a massive tag rant!#tl;dr of about half of it is that if they *were* meant to be interpreted as indigenous; in the sense that it is applied to irl cultures#that's not heartwarming poignant representation; or even a depiction the narrative should be criticized for drawing its conclusions about#that's 'hey what the fuck are these parameters you've built into this world/magic system/society/etc re: the victims'#'the premise this setup is based on is already fucked; no matter what statement you have to make about it'#spoiler alert: 'indigenous genocide victims did it to themselves with no outside involvement'#and 'indigenous people want to reclaim land; culture; and government from colonizers by violently wiping out Our Way of Life'#'and that is in fact the *only* way for them to do so. it's flat out impossible for things to go otherwise. it's us or them'#would be INCREDIBLY offensive tropes even before you get into everything else being implied by this metaphor#which again there is SO MUCH don't get me started. i keep having to restrain myself because i know there is not enough room in the tags#but oh my god. anyway i keep getting jumpscared by this take on other sites and i phase out of my body every time#It's Bad#the salt files#the crit files#warning: worm grass

Do the other Beloveds & Flavor Four end up having kids like Sweetheart & Bitterbat do? (I guess in Honey's case, since she already has Bee, does she decide to have any kids w/ Halite?)
Honey is the only other Beloved interested in having kids.
Dear ain't about that parent life and Baby is creeped out by pregnancy and everything that comes with something growing in your body. She also doesn't want kids because of all the stress.
Redhot is neutral on kids and Sourpuss doesn't even think about parenting. They don't even consider the fact they can have kids, they got candy to worry about.
Halite has an interest in being a parent and is responsible enough for it (he practically parents the Flavor Four) so he and Honey do have a potential future with having their own little monster.
But that's all I'mma say about that for now 👀

Bastard Son has to be among my favorite Parahumans characters that never actually appear.
He has the same sort of powerset as Teacher, being a power granter. Specifically granting combat Thinker abilities that allow his puppets to use random garbage with lethal efficiency (table legs, fingernails, glass shards, and such). His puppets, as well, are barely even people after he's done with them, being little more than rabid dogs at his command.
Combined with the fact that he's also able to grant these abilities to Parahumans, allowing him to turn any opposition he faces into more forces for himself.
No wonder Bastard Son is considered on the level of the Slaughterhouse 9 in terms of fear factor. He's the dog the Elite let off the leash whenever they have a problem. I wonder if they sent their own problem Capes to him for "fixing," removing an issue while keeping them as an asset.
Among the Elite's membership him and Upperhand are certainly the ones I hope survived Gold Morning. I'll need to figure out a good design for him one of these days.
