I don’t know if this is common knowledge now and this post is redundant or not, but I’ve seen it enough to where I want to say something. Do writers know what star-crossed actually means?

It’s doesn’t mean like- soulmates or whatever everyone thinks it means. It means bad luck; you aren’t approved by the stars and so bad things will happen to you. Comes from the belief from way back when people thought the stars had some sort of power and would dictate outcomes.

I think most just assume it has to do with love because the original line in Romeo and Juliet have it relate to love, but you can slap most anything at the end of star-crossed and it would still make sense.

Star-crossed lovers: two lovers fated to fall out of love or die or something.

Star-crossed enemies: two rivals fated to die by each others hands most likely or they stop being enemies and become friends instead (their rivalry doomed to fail?)

Star-crossed moths: “ooo what’s that pretty green light Timmy?” “I dunno Patrick, let’s go look at it.” *Flies into a bug zapper*

i would read a fanfic in which harry actually died in the forbidden forest, and draco would have to change the course of history with the help of a time-turner (or some other magical device). draco would come to realize that he can't live in a world without harry. he would witness with his own eyes what would happen to the magical world if voldemort were to win. he would truly come to despise the idea of dividing people based on blood purity. perhaps, this would have molded him. draco would stop being afraid and start taking action (when in reality he would feel like he has nothing to lose anyway).

and here, he would team up with hermione and ron to embark on a time-traveling journey. or he could act with former friends from slytherin who have also changed their views. i would like him to see how harry was forced to wander through the forest in search of horcruxes, how he lived with constant anxiety and the burden of responsibility for the fate of many people.

overall, it's a story of draco's redemption and how draco only falls more deeply in love with harry.

Okay, so you know what really upsets me when I read fanfiction about HTTYD? (Don’t act me why, I’ve been getting back into it)

• When either Hiccup has magical, dragon powers to communicate with the other dragons, or he’s able to communicate with Toothless.

Reason: because that is just taking all the power of Hiccup. His own talent is to make dragons show that he means no harm, he doesn’t have MaGiCal connection to the dragons. He trusts the dragons, and that so makes them trust him.

• when the storyline doesn’t make sense. This upsets me on personal level. What I mean is when it shows they obviously haven’t seen the rise of Berk, Race to the edge, or any of the movies after the first. OR when they make the story really complicated. Like there was fic of when Hiccup already meeting his mother.

Reason: it just complicates things, and it can ruin the magic in those moments. Ex: Hiccup’s connection with his father, his team, his mother, EVERYONE. Or even moments that had hugely impacted Hiccup’s life.

• making characters get out of character. I don’t blame a lot of people for not exactly getting the character’s attention exactly right. But there was really weird-ass moments when they make the characters nothing like they were in the movies. Like, they made Stoick SUPER abusive (which he wasn’t), they they make the team really fucked up (which they weren’t). Making Hiccup practically emo, like full on dead teenager with no morals or even character.

Reason: because this absolutely ruin the characters development, or make the scenes be really weird.

What I wish there were more of;

•MORE HICCUP BEING A BAD ASS! I love Hiccup, and and I love him even more when he’s a still a beloved cool character. I don’t mind him being almost cold, but him being a badass is totally amazing.

•hiccup being a beloved goofball/sarcastic little shit. If anyone watches HtTyD, they’ve seen Hiccuo being a little shit by having SO much sass it almost hurts.

•GET A GOD DAMN REFERENCE TO THE SHOWS!! I’ve never even seen a reference to the TV series of Race to the edge, or rise of Berk. Like does it kill writers to have a reference of Dagur? Viggo? Heather? Like anyone??

You know what I wish I saw more in post-apocalyptic movies/books? People actually living off the land. Not just fighting over food and resources. Because let’s face it: it’s not the people who live in the middle of cities that are going to survive, but the farmers, the hunters, the foragers. People who actually have skill where they can keep themselves alive with minimal contact with humans.

I want to see people using animal pelts for blankets and clothes, I want to see people making their own moccasins and gloves, and making jerky for the winter

I want to see people healing infected wounds with a plantain weed poultice, eating the inner bark out of pine trees, and curing their colds with yarrow.

Native Americans were surviving fine for thousands of years living off the land in that manner. I know people who could disappear into the woods and never be seen again, yet live perfectly good lives roughing it.
