Focus! and the clock is ticking loudly. the time must be wrong, i've been sitting for so long and the teacher wants me to  Focus! something silly in the big picture, and i'm sure that they were  all thinking the same as me, the class, but somehow i'm the one  called out and told that i need to  Focus! put your pen between your fingers, put some thoughts in your head, sit up! your desk is not your bed. can you say that again? i'm sorry, i didn't hear what you said. too bad, you should have been listening, you need to learn how to  Focus! i'm sorry, i didn't get much sleep, your work had me up 'till half past three. what do you mean? that work was easy, it only needed 30 minutes. i'm so sorry, miss. i couldn't— Focus!

Basics

Hi!!!

My name is Kesar (or any other variant of the name Caesar is fine to call me!) and I am 14. I am neurodivergent. I am an Asian-European (India and Sweden!), Hindu, and my pronouns are he/they!

Interests and Likes

I have a hyperfixation/special interest (I don't know which to use because I'm in denial about being autistic LMAO) of the Mediterranean, mostly Italy and Spain but also France, Portugal, Egypt, Greece, etc!

Languages

Due to my interest, I have taught myself Italian all on my own and I study Spanish at school since 2020, so I can speak them both at a good level.

All of the languages I speak as well as some more info on my history with them:

Swedish, I speak it every day and a bit at home

Hindi, I speak it every day at home with my family, it's the language I have grown up with mostly.

English, I speak it here and I consume a lot of English media. Also I went to an international school for a couple of years.

Spanish, I've been learning it at school. Ever since I started learning it I've been the best in the class (this is very much a flex, I am very proud of the fact). I speak it at a very good level but I'm not close to fluent.

Italian, I am very proud of that I speak it because I learnt it all on my own using primarily music. I started learning it in 2021 but then took a LONG break for almost 2 years and in 2023 I got back on track and learnt it so well I'm almost at the same level at it as I am at Spanish hahaha

French, as I speak Spanish and Italian it wasn't that hard for me to get a grasp at French. I'm definitely not good at it and am best at written French, not spoken, but I understand enough to say I know it. Also, I can carry a conversation in French so. Yeah. I also really like Lupin.

Urdu, as I speak Hindi I understand Urdu well. Of course there are words I don't know, but since I understand so much of it and I speak it better than I speak Spanish or Italian I had to include it.

Music

My favourite song artists are Marco Mengoni and MIKA. They are my top 2. I love them so much.

I also listen to Mahmood, Måneskin, Queen, The Lonely Island, Lady Gaga, Kali Uchis, Megan Thee Stallion, Veronica Maggio, Shreya Ghoshal, and a lot more.

Apart from that I like English music from 2000 to the late 2010s. I also like Hindi music, rap (i listen to a LOT of Megan Thee Stallion, she's such a queen), Eurovision (although I am not supporting them this year due to them including Israel, Free Palestine🇵🇸), Hispanic music, Francophone music, Italian music and Swedish music. I also enjoy classical, both South Asian and European.

TV

I love TV! My favourites are dramedies. I like comedy a lot. My favourite type of show would be sitcoms because I understand them and I grew up with them and I like their humour. Here are TV shows I very, very strongly like in no particular order:

Brooklyn Nine Nine, Community, 1899, Mythic Quest, Lupin, Monk, and probably more that I just don't remember right now.

I have also watched a lot of other things, but this is all that comes to mind.

There are films that I really like, and most of them I have watched more than a few times. Like there were literally periods when I would just keep rewatching these:

The Kung Fu Panda film series, The Hotel Transylvania film series, The Lorax (specifically the Italian dub), The Shrek film series, and once again probably many more.

Other stuff I like:

Doraemon, Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse & Across The Spiderverse, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan (2020), Smiley (2022), Saiki K (TV series, I haven't been able to read the manga :/), etc.

Books

Mostly I read fact books, in middle school the librarian hated me for (metaphorically) eating up all the books on ancient Egypt, but I also have a few books I really like!

I love Rick Riordan. My favourite from him is definitely The Kane Chronicles but I also like PJO. I'm TKC all the way, though.

I also like Geronimo & Thea Stilton as well as Diary of a Wimpy Kid. They give me comfort.

I have a lot of queer books I bought for the sole reason of them being queer but I haven't read them yet hahahaha. I'm almost finished with Friday I'm In Love by Camryn Garrett!

sorry if you’ve already posted something like this but with the shitty news about duolingo I was wondering if you knew of any other resources for studying Brazilian Portuguese? thank you!

i know of a few options! first thing, if you want a pretty close replacement for duolingo, i downloaded busuu from some posts recommending it today and it's pretty similar but better structured imo, and there seems to be some social features that allow you to communicate with native speakers, which is pretty neat!

otherwise, there are various programs out there that i haven't myself used-- i know babbel exists, but i think it involves paying for most of the services. this video from languagejones covers some good things to do alongside duolingo, so you could seek those out as well. and there's various ways of doing directed self-study without an app or anything, which takes a lot of dedication to keep yourself accountable but if you're able to do so that's a really solid options-- you want to probably find some resources to help you know how to progress and maintain an amount of structure.

on that point, for more traditional resources, @/salvadorbonaparte has a megafolder of languages resources with some great stuff for portuguese, including a textbook on learning portuguese as a spanish speaker that's written in english (incredibly helpful for a few of us on here lmao) as well as a few other textbooks and guides (folder from this post), and i'm sure there are plenty of ways to find other textbooks and guides for free in various places. if you're in college or anything like that, taking a class is also a good option if you can, especially if your school has a good portuguese program.

personally i'm planning to use busuu for the time being alongside poking through textbooks above and my usual watching/listening/reading cultural stuff, which seems to be working pretty well. i think the daily prompting aspect is what's most important for me personally, and because busuu has that that'll be most helpful for me as a replacement. hope that helps!

Seeing the new PJO content has me thinking way too hard about growing up. Its crazy because it’s like…. I think that chapter of my life is over? Which is a BIZARRE feeling. It’s all pretty stupid to write out but I’m drinking coffee and staring out the window and don’t have class for another 6 hours so lemme scribble some thoughts.

I read the Percy Jackson books when I was the same age as the characters, and so whenever I look back on those stories I sort of… remember them as peers? I remember how much I related to them and looked up to them. It was the first story that ever told me my ADHD could be a gift, and that it made me just like my heroes. It was so, SO important to me. I JOINED TUMBLR for the PJO fandom! I made camp t-shirts and painted necklace beads! I learned to draw because the fanart inspired me. Those books were such an escape for a lonely kid. The characters grew up right alongside me, and eventually got older than me. So when I picture our trio I still picture people… more competent than me? People I would aspire to be. But seeing that trailer and remembering like… holy fuck they were kids. I was a kid. This is a faithful adaptation because they were TWELVE… where did the time go?

It’s just strange because if you scroll back through my tumblr you’ll find a kid who camped out for the release of HOH. Who saved her allowance for a year to get an autographed copy of the Blood of Olympus. Whose eyes would glaze over in euphoria at the idea of my favorite thing in the world coming to screen. At the idea of a new BOOK!! And from Percy’s perspective?? That girl would’ve exploded. This was HER blog! Push a few buttons and you’ll find her!

So how odd is it that… it’s simply not for me anymore. When I saw that the book was set in Percy’s senior year of high school, I had a tiny flash of disappointment. Obviously I can’t relate to an 18 year old, and I felt myself frowning. “Why isn’t Percy for ME anymore?” I wondered. And I immediately felt silly. The answer is because… I don’t need that world anymore.

They’re not making this show for me. They’re bringing it back for the next generation of kids who need those role models and those stories. When I watched the trailer I thought “oh that’s cool” instead of “oh my god I can’t wait!!” Because it just doesn’t make my brain light up like it used to. I’m never going to relate to it like I once did. Ever. And that’s okay because I’m not that kid anymore! Insane.

It’s not like the series doesn’t mean anything to me anymore. There’s a copy of The Lightning Thief on the bookshelf directly across from me. Its smooshed between The Secret History and a level 4000 Spanish textbook. It’s yellowed with age and shredded around the corners. The first sentence has been underlined repeatedly in smudgy mechanical pencil. There are about a thousand folded pages and the back cover is missing. I don’t remember the last time I opened it, but it’s moved with me for years now and I have no intention of letting it go.

Those stories and that fandom shaped me into the person I am today. I wanted to be brave like Percy and smart like Annabeth. I believed it was possible because I saw myself in them, and it turned out to be true. So while it’s sad to know those days are behind me, I’m so SO glad that other kids will get to have that experience. I hope these stories live on for decades to come.

I don’t really know what the point of writing this was. I think I just wanted to have these thoughts written out somewhere. A sort of acceptance that time goes on and things change, ya know? And to clarify: this is NOT meant to discourage ANYBODY from watching the new series or reading the new book. People should absolutely go back to the things that bring them joy, should discover new worlds to escape to, etc. live your life baby! Hell, I’ll probably end up liking everything PJO related that floats across my dash. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. If you read this entire post I hope you have a great day lmao.

having finished watching the bear in the early hours of the morning, i have some thoughts rattling around in my head that i need to jot down because they keep distracting me from work, lmao. spoilers under the cut 

→ i had fun! it was emotional! it was stressful! i was entertained and then i had to suppress the feelings of familial relatability brought up in ep. 6!  → MARCUS!!! TINA!!! NAT!!! EBRA!!! RICHIEEEEEEE!!!!! All going through their own shit, changing, emotional, relentless, scared, nervous. I especially loved Richie this season and he had a speech in ep. 1 that broke my heart ("I'm 45, I've been here a long time, you feel me? I mean, you know what the fuck you're doing, you know. You love all this shit. It's fun for you. I don't have that. I'm afraid imma wake up and you guys are all just gonna cut—just drop this ass.")

→ Sydney, light of my life. Her fierce ambition, so obvious and strong in S1, got tempered by doubt and distrust in her partner, by the gradual recognition that she is doing so much, too much, by herself. I don’t think it bodes well that the last shots we get of her, she’s ralphing after opening night service—after an intense kitchen set-up that tests her limits and shows who she can and cannot trust. (Giving Carmy in NY, throwing up before service vibes). And honestly? I wouldn't be mad if she really, really starts doubting her partnership with Carmy and just dips. 

→ Anyway, I came back to add that Sydney, despite her doubts and not-unfounded fears, is such a positive source for those around her. We saw it in S1, when she gave Marcus a confidence boost, when Tina sought her approval after initially being very hesitant about her. And that faith in others just increased in this season, and god, to be around someone like that, who lifts others up no matter what, is so rare. I love her so much. (And her carrying around that book the whole season! Just holding onto courage and confidence, letting it shape her leadership.) 

→ I'm so happy Natalie wasn’t relegated to glimpses this time around. She's present and focused and involved in dismantling her family’s trauma and history, and I love that for her. I also love her and Syd's relationship (them almost being synchronised in saying Carmy Problem) and her interactions with Fak, lmao. 

→ Tina at culinary school! Tina with reservations about her place but thriving and finding inspiration. There's a moment where some of the people in her class all go out, and they invite her, and when she meets them at the bar, they've all got a nasty judgemental face (it's def an age thing) but then she EATS THEM UP at karaoke with a beautiful song in English & Spanish, TINA TE ADORO. 

→ I immediately re-watched Marcus's episode and I want a spin-off series where he stages at different world-renowned bakeries and lives his best patissier life. 

→ That Variety piece that said Carmy was the least interesting character in this show was RIGHT ("It’s no coincidence that these weaker points tend to involve Carmy, a character perfectly rendered by White who’s still the least interesting part of his own show.") 

→ Speaking of: the romance between Carmy and Claire (which we all unfortunately saw happening after the trailer, and is fucking annoying, and yes part of it is because I love Syd & Carmy together, but also because the showrunners pledged no romance in the show which would have been fine, too) is BORING. So boring. I know Claire is going to get a lot of hate and honestly, it's barely fair because she's just not developed as a character at all. Beyond being someone Carmy knew in his past, and who is now stealing his time and energy away from the restaurant, there's not much to her. She's written with so little dimension, and exists purely to be Carmy's lil girlfriend and it's disappointing. She could have at least been fucking interesting. 

→ Carmy's so angry around the time of the opening, and he projects it onto everyone else, and it's really his own fault that he's not aware of what's happening in the restaurant.  → Okay so another thing—Sydney talks about how much she wants a Michelin star, how it’ll make The Bear a true destination spot. And rudely, Carmy goes, “you really want one of these bullshit stars?” to which Syd says yes, I really do, and this fucking dickhead tells her: “you’re gonna to have to care about everything, more than anything” AND HE STILL LET HER DOWN!!!!!!!! The more I think about it, the more upset I get. 

→ Also, Michael doesn't haunt the narrative the way he did last season—his presence is so faint. There's moments, of course, but it just feels like something is missing or off. I had expected some sort of sentiment to come to the surface towards the end of the season at least, some sense of acknowledgement that maybe he would have loved The Bear, or hated it, or something, from literally anyone—Carmy, Nat, Richie, someone��but nope, nothing besides the cannoli.

→ Episode 6, man. Episode fucking six. Natalie Berzatto, you deserve peace. 

→ Anyway, overall there’s a sort of bite missing in this season. The looming threat of Cicero has been softened a lot and yes, obviously internal workings at The Bear are the new obstacles but it doesn’t feel quite the same. Maybe it's a lack of tension, or a lack of anxiety? I don't know how else to explain it.

my first language is spanish so my english especially written can be a bit iffy. my dialect is usually in spanglish, which i’ve become conscious about lately. but spanish is great for the enhancement of ✨drama✨

it kinda sucks that school kinda shoved away your spoken spanish skills though. but im glad you still understand it and are able to write it! my cousins moved from PR to NC and lost their spanish (both written and spoken) in its entirety and are just getting back to relearning it.

If you ever want to rant in Spanish you are so welcome to do so we welcome any and all languages on here 👼🫶💕💓 I’m so bummed I didn’t grow up speaking more Spanish but I’m glad at least I fully understand & can write it AND it helps that Spanish class in high school was easy as hell LMAO

my parents are definitely an interesting mix !! They met at a night club and they couldn’t speak each other’s languages but my dad did everything in his power to learn Spanish just enough to be able to date my mom and then they slowly improved their English skills ✨together✨ before having kids so they were already between Spanish/Farsi AND English by the time my siblings and I came along. And since we all grew up in the states we were fully westernized and English speaking only which kinda sucks having that cultural divide but I still learn about their cultures where I can!

So i imagine you're comfortable with spoken Mandarin by now? But how about written?

Here’s the funny thing with my Mandarin! First of all important to know is that I’ve never actually taken a class or anything for it.

Listening: Day to day I understand what people are saying. Some vocabulary is stronger for me than others. Like when a Chinese teacher is talking to a student at school I can understand all of that. But at the doctor I need English still. And I’m far less comfortable having a social conversation in Mandarin. So basically my ability/comfort level here comes down to what I’ve been exposed to.

Speaking: I hit a block here for a while. Funny enough, I was very good at speaking Mandarin when I lived in China and nobody around me knew any English, and it got worse when I got to Taiwan. Also, and this happened for the first several years with Spanish for me too, I have like… irrational anxiety about speaking? Like I’m SO nonverbal as much as I can be but then when I do speak people say it sounds practically native. What still stops me a lot is because of my lack of formal education, I’m still missing a lot of sentence structures. When I finish my masters I’m gonna do an intensive course to just get all that down and I bet I can get to a good level of fluency in a few months. Like all the words are there, I just gotta put them together

Reading: Also enough to get around. I first learned pinyin, but I have an okay enough understanding of zhuyin/bopomofo that just reading kids books helps me learn a lot. So like I can follow signs and read a menu, and if I’m looking at like a random shop sign I probably know 25-30% of the characters, though not always their meanings haha

Writing: It’s bad lmao but not a priority right now. My stroke order is kind of bad and anything I write looks like a kid did it but I really only ever have to write my name and address which I can do okay. Everything else is typing which is much easier. I still type with pinyin on my phone so when I’m at a computer and need to use Zhuyin I’m kind of screwed but eh

So yeah basically I’m a lot worse than I should be and my Chinese has probably gotten worse since moving to Taiwan actually because my work is all in English here and I’ve been so busy with school and personal issues to really focus on studying but I do learn more every day and plan to keep at it.

To answer your question, I do indeed have some headcanons to share! ;> AGAIN, these are all written for my AU so keep that in mind while reading,,

Headcanons for Cesar Torres:

-While Mark is more of an introvert, Cesar is the complete opposite. From his fancy appearance, you wouldn't really think that he was a chaotic extrovert, now would you? While he may be a little all over the place, he makes up with his friendly attitude towards others. He prefers being around people rather than alone by himself. (I got inspired by the irl face portraying Cesar in the series, Andrew Long. From the few livestream clips I saw, he's so goofy lmao,,)

-Theater kid, no doubt about it. Don't know why but he gives off the vibes to me. Some of my fanfic readers might have noticed that Cesar goes to an after-school drama club. It's pretty much the only thing he looks forward to after classes. He likes to be expressive as possible whenever he's on stage, intentionally over-dramatic with his acting. The club loves him for that. Naturally, like probably most theater kids, he's got a singing voice and he uses that to annoy the fuck out of Mark by bursting out into song at the most random times. Hit em' when they least expect it.

-Cesar is Hispanic. His family being of Latin American descent, living in the US. He can speak fluent Spanish while American English is his second language. To add, he's bilingual. If I were to list a quick quirk, sometimes he forgets a word in English and you might hear him curse out under his breath in Spanish due to frustration. (I've seen a few people give a similar headcanon and I'm joining in,,)

-A great cook, whenever he has the time you'll find him in the kitchen whipping up some tasty meals. Has a fairly refined palette as well, he hates processed and frozen foods. However, he's a terrible baker. Cesar finds little enjoyment in the more precise measurements when it comes to baking. Don't be surprised if his pastries are messy or that his cookies are burnt.

-There's barely any info on Cesar's parents in the canon series but I'm revealing this anyway. In the AU, Cesar's parents work in the airline industry. His father is an airline pilot while his mother, a flight attendant. While they make good money, they're not as present in their son's life. Because of the round-the-clock nature of the industry, they often have to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Cesar has grown accustomed to taking care of himself, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he likes it.

-You've seen him in his iconic black suit but that isn't the only tuxedo he's got in his wardrobe. Some of the suits in his collection are fashionable, ranging in colors from white to darker shades of brown and red, but he's also got, less than respectable, multicolored suits. Ones that hurt your eyes just by looking.

PERSONAL $ Financial: wealthy / moderate / poor / in poverty ✚ Medical: fit / moderate / sickly / disabled / disadvantaged / non-applicable ✪ Class/Caste: upper / middle / working / unsure / other ✔ Education: qualified / unqualified / studying / other ✖ Criminal Record: yes, for major crimes / yes, for minor crimes / no / has committed crimes, but not caught yet / yes, but charges were dismissed ( The four of them aren't nessiciarily impoverished, or living in poverty, but it's hard to expand when you're either living in a small city or traveling in a small trailer, life isn't the worst, nobody's strugling to make ends meet (not that anyones charging them rent, though.) but at the same time, they arent living in some kind of mansion. Jolt mostly manages money in the group, and all together they do pretty well.

Jolt is muscular, but he tends to over do it with training and fighting, occasionally skipping meals, definitly fit though. there isn't much of a caste system within the story, you've either got someplace to stay or you dont.

Jolt, like the rest of them, hasnt had a "proper formal education", but he's the most well written of the group, able to read and write in both spanish and english, as well as being fluent in both. His mathmatical skills are enough to get by with, simple maths. He's also read a lot of history books in his free time, so he knows a suprising amount of US history, not that most of it matters anymore.

Most of the time, the crimes he's commited have been done in places where it doesnt really matter- around other raiders, killing people in arena style fights, ect. He's not got the stickiest hands, but he's swiped a few things in his life. Over all, he's intimidating and skilled enough to swipe stuff without gettign caught.)

FAMILY ◒ Children: had a child or children / has no children / wants children ◑ Relationship with Family: close with sibling(s) / not close with sibling(s) / has no siblings / sibling(s) is deceased/?????? ◔ Affiliation: orphaned / abandoned / adopted / found family / disowned / raised by birth parent(s) / not applicable (Jolt is worried about the idea of raising children in the wasteland without a solid comunity or stable way of life, and he's also concerned about his own addiction and behavior affecting them, but he enjoy the idea of being a parent and raising kids.

Before everythign happened, his family was a very close unit, definitly closer to his mother than his father, though. His father rough around the edges, but overall a good man. His mother wanted to make sure her kids were intelligent and capable, and enjoyed passing on information from her life, and her family, history, to them. His siblings and him were also quite close, often depeneding on him when his mother passed away.

Jolt's mother died when he was around 14-15, and his father passed away a few weeks before he turned 19, after which he left his siblings. Over time he eventually found himself tangled with a few people and groups but never really found a home until he was tangled with Bux, Keres, and Rikki. The four of them make up a somewhat weird but very close family.)

There a few things he forgets how to spell, and occasionally forgets words in english/spanish, but nothing outside the normal relm of someone who's bilingul. He's decently literate though, and enjoys reading and writting.

Jolt paints fequently and paints things like aniamls and plants to catolauge them, writing down information as he learns about them, either for saftey, hunting, or foraging, sometimes even receipes. He's not super skilled at it, and struggles to draw people, but it's still a hobby of his.

He's skilled with things like cooking, construction, and he's pretty good at taking care of weapons/ maintaining them. he's not great with machinery, things like cars and what not, he is decent at wiring though, and can hot wire cars in case of emergency. )

Jolt smokes pretty regularly, often smelling like it too. Nicotine is one of the only things that helps his hands from trembling, but also makes it worse in the long run.

He's got pretty hardcore psycho addiction. while using he's either highly aggressive and manic, but often is subject to bad trips becoming emotional and mostly inconsolable. He also uses day tripper and marijuana, but less recreational and more medicinal, using them to manage his psycho addiction and mental health issues.

stimpacks, med x, rad away, rad x for all of them, jolt also uses buffout but like a pre-workout/training situation, often only taking half a dose. He also uses Calmex but as directed.

Jolt dies most of the cooking, cooking a lot of mexican and native dishes (or as close as he can get) so mostly things fluctiate from extremely healthy to very deep fried. He really enjoys spicy food more then sweet food, and his favorite foods are often served over rice, or fried. Some of his favorites are Pemmican (my mom made this a lot as a kid and its like a larabar with meat. highly reccomend), Tamales, and menudo (personally, i hate tripe, it makes me want to crawl in a hole and die, but my mom loves and says its very good for you.)

He's pretty stingy with money, budgeting everything, drugs, drinks, cigarettes, food, everything is included. Every so often he'll splurge on new spices or food, paint suplies, or on something as a surprise for Keres (which is usually new herbs or candles.) He also enjoys buying and trying unique cuts of food or veggies or meats he's never tried before.

Keres is mostly blind, having severe cataracts in both eyes. they could read previously, and with some aid still can. Jolt and Rikki often sit down and rewrite books using extra pressure so that keres can read the indents (like braille but none of them know it.) have several books they can use. Other wise, they are literate. they also know some spanish, not enough to be considered fluent, but enough to hold private conversations with Jolt right in fron to rikki and Bux.

Keres isnt the most technically skilled, they can sew decently well, can crochet and knit at alarming speed for someone with little to no vision, and again, despite being blind, makes a decent medic.)

Keres smokes a lot of weed, but also has a decently high tolerance to it, rarely actually getting high. They dont have a lot of anxiety but they seem to be a bit inattentive without it. They also use Jet, a lot, it helps again from being disassociated, or over stimulated, using it to regulate themselves.

Most medicinal medicines keres uses are once they've made themselves, and are usually tinctures, teas or topical ointments. Keres loves anything Jolt cooks, being unable to cook themselves, rikki being unable to handle spices very well and Bux incinerating everything he "cooks". His style of cooking is nearly identical to their families' and Jolt's curiosity for trying new receipies is exciting to keres, as it mean flavor and textural variety. They enjoy savory and bitter foods, and also fermented dishes. Keres doesn't really have any particularly favorite dishes, but anything with seafood, jerky, or fried is likely to be enjoyed. All that being said, they won't eat anythign pre-war. Probably for the best.

He was in school for a bit before his parents divorced, he father then pulling him out of school to work on the farm. Bux has probably the stickiest fingers of the group, he could steal an entire cart of stuff and not only would you not see him do it, youd have no idea where any of it went. )

He's got a complex relationship with most family members. He doesnt resent his mother, but he's upset with her for not taking him with her when she and walter divorced. Then she married Perry. Perry's great, super nice, and seems like he actually enjoy's Bux's enjoyment of machines and tattoos. But he still had two kids with his mom and didnt think to invite him over even once.

His two sisters adore him, having an older brother who got in trouble for sneeking out and hanging out with a bunch of raiders seems cool to them. He however, does not want to spend time with them. He doesnt hate them, but he feels a twang of envy and sometimes guilt everytime he sees them.)

Mostly melee, and using his terain to his benefit, prefering to ambush or corner people.

Bux can read, just not well or quickly; on top of needing to focus to read, he has no ability to focus, so he often seems illierate, but he's just a little stupid. He (and Rikki) only speak english, so hearing jolt constant swearing in spanish, or jolt and keres talking "serect older adult stuff" right in front of them is frustrating. Rikki's tried to pick up spanish, but picking it up from two affulent people (who aren't trying to teaching you) is harder then it looks (sounds?); Bux on the other hand, has chosen to ignore it.

Jolt is normally the one considered the artist of the group, and sure, when it comes to drawing plants and animals, he's better than Bux, but when drawing people Bux is usually better. Bux likes making more abstract desgins, anyways. He's maybe not the best with paint and paper, but he can tattoo something else.

On a technically level (on all levels except physical) Bux is pretty impressive. with machines, anyways. He seems to speak to the hardware, and know where it goes. software is a little trickier for him, which isnt saying much cause you could probably hand him a peice of technology he's never seen or heard of and be able to fix it after about five minutes of inspecting. ✧˖°. He's so constantly high or drunk that the few times Jolt has seen him sober he's been genuinely worried. If he's able to come down from it all gracefully, he hits a major low pretty easily. Often mopey, quiet, avoidant, and typically irratable. If not, He's more likely to have a shakey, screaming meltdown. Keres and Rikki cant handle the meltdowns, and Jolt is freaked out by the mellow (even if his highs can be annoying) so the group does not prevent him from indulging in his habits. He'll pretty much drink whatever, smoke whatever, but in general, Jet is his drug of choice. Jet, weed, and maybe a little calmex (generously spared by Jolt at the request of Keres when they travel.) other than the occaisonally calmex, he's taking mostly uppers.

Bux enjoys a good bit of Jolt's cooking, but he's not a fan of the more 'explorative' dishes, and isn't quite accustomed to other culture's foods, so he can be rather picky. While not quite as bad as Keres, Bux is also not allowed to spend his own money. He gets an allowance though. He enjoys gambling, too, so that adds on to the "List of Reasons Why." posted on the fridge by Jolt. He mostly spends on drugs or food, but will also spend on tattoo and pericing supplies, or bust it all gambling. He likes dice games, and betting games. He's not great at it. )

(fun fact about the various drugs of fallout; they're inspired by real world drugs/medications, and when writing stories you can apply the real world affects and repercussions :D I've seen a few different interpretations, but here are mine personally (having worked in (and currently working for) various biomedical pharmaceutical distributions or management companies, and while not being a doctor, I know more than the average person about these drugs. (I've mostly included the ones that are important story wise.) Psycho: Methamphetamine Jet: Jenkem (I've seen some people say its an amphetamine, and i think the effects of jet are pretty similar canonically, but it's definetly jekem.) Med-x: Morphine Buffout: roids. Calmex: Ketamine. Daddy-o: Xanax or adderall. (Or something similar.) Day Tripper: LSD or shrooms but bottled for your conveinence. (some people say that day tripper is weed, going off the effects it could be, but i'd rather just have my characters smoking weed. )

face in hands. build up. i have the main scenes down on lock but then i have to build the suspense and tension and do all the thingymajigs and doodads before that and i collapse on my face and decompose

i mean if it’s in spanish or mandarin? sure. i’m confident enough in my ability to make those sound natural enough, but any other languages. well. haha. [walks into the ocean never to return]

a hunting dog’s lullaby, by a long shot. it’s the one i worked the hardest on. it’s got some janky spots but i’ve got a net positive outlook on how it turned out. versus the craigslist fic which i made in under two days 😭

Hi!!! I am here with the promised etymology fact! I have a few smaller tidbit ones soo yeah

Helicopter! Most people think it divides into heli+copter (think heli-pad) but actually it's helico+pter!

Helico meaning spiral (as in helix) and pter meaning fly/flight! The same as in pterodactyl which, btw, is ptero+dactyl

Dactyl means fingers so pterodactyl litrly means flying fingers or finger flier! It's also the same dactyl that appears in polydactyly which is poly (many) plus dactyl!

Another one i really like is the difference bw and Elegy and a Eulogy! They're both poem kinda things that you say when someone dies like in memory of them, but an Elegy is about mourning the one who died while a Eulogy is about celebrating and appreciating the life they lived, it has a more happy vibe! Which makes a lot of sense when you see that the prefix 'eu-' is usually used to denote happiness and good feelings. Think euphoria!

The seeming exception to that is euthanasia, but it ends up making sense when you see that euthanasia originally meant 'a good death' which is a nice way of thinking about it if you ask me!

Another cool one is how the Fruit that adam and eve ate in the Bible came to be an apple. In the Bible it's never actually mentioned the the fruit is an apple, we don't know what fruit it is! The thing is though, that in Latin, the word for general Fruits was also often used as the word for apple (malum), not only that, the Latin word for 'Bad' is written and pronounced in a very similar way, so the theory is that somehwere in all the translation, 'Bad Fruit' got condenswd down to just. Apple. Cuz it all sounded similar!

Speaking of Latin 'bad', the word is Malum (there are some accent marks but i forget them rn) which is where we get the suffix 'mal-' for bad things! Like maleficent, malnourished, malcontent.

Another kinda funny one is Rhinoceros! Rhino means Nose. Think rhinoplasty, rhinitis(inflammation in the nose), rhinovirus (the common cold).

Ceros comes froma root word that basically means like. Stone? Thorn? I am not 100% sure rn but something like that. So rhinoceros litrly just means Nose-Stone lmao

Soeaking of Ceros, it's also where we get the word Keratin! The stuff out hair and nails r made of. So that's cool

Last one, u know the words 'human' and 'man'?? U ever wonder why they don't have the same plural endings when they're so similar?? Well the thing is they sound very similar but they're actually from completely different roots! Like. Not even the same root language. Human comes from the latin 'humanus' which has prety much the same meaning.

But 'man' comes from Germanic roots! Think german and the slavic languages, which is a completely seperate language system with its own grammar rules to latin and the Romance languages (french italian spanish etc. Languages that descended from the language of Rome hence the name)

Which is why their modern day remnants human and man also follow different grammar rules, the rules of their root languages!

1. tendinitis has been on-and-off killing me lately which is deeply depressing as someone who: spends a fuckton of time online on a phone; prefers to communicate via written language. can’t always hold a pen + typing with any speed on a phone depends on autocorrect listening to me (it doesn’t always, & since I installed a Spanish keyboard for language-learning purposes it often incorrectly forcefully insists I obviously meant to type in Spanish and not in English) and is a balancing act between “say things now” and “lasting pain for the rest of the day” :/ it also means i can’t rly write even if i were in a mood too. (also yes i did type this whole long post despite already being in pain, bc i make good choices lol)

2. due to ongoing paperwork / certification nonsense, work has apparently busted me back down to “normie” from “supervisor” at the one place i was a supervisor. which i noticed when i went to check my schedule & saw that they want me to show up at the “regular people” time instead of early with the other supervisors… i didn’t get a mean email or anything, just “oh, hmm” on the corporate website. (i am unconcerned about this, bc i am currently in the process of doing all the training they make supervisors do & once that’s done… well this specific position has had a new person in it every single year since i was hired, i think they might be willing to take me back lmao.) today i am tired and worn-down and it’s freezing out, so my reaction to seeing this was “thank fuck, someone else is the responsible adult tonight”.

3. work invited me to attend a small function next weekend immediately after i will have spent all god damn weekend in training classes, and less than a week after my surgery. lol. it starts the minute my last class ends so im a solid “maybe”, and they get me for fifteen minutes or until i have to “go home and take my medication”, aka the minute i get sick of being there. it would be a Absolutely Not but i suspect it’s a situation where im actually on the honored-guest list as opposed to, like, company holiday party where they just invite a bunch of people — it’s a “graduation” event for a program i may be in but im not sure

4. really im hanging in there until tomorrow is over with and im done with working events for two weeks

heyooo laurie, i've been really absent for one lmao- sorry about that

emotionally and mentally i got to the lowest lows and now am in a pretty okay state again, so that happened. i got a lot going on, I'm really busy, with school and everything starting up again, and home life hasn't been the easiest. the time i had (and was okay enough to use) i spent working on my wip and learning spanish (i finally am allowed to take that class, though i already feel like the lessons are gonna teach me less than i'm gonna be forcing myself to study outside of them) and so yeah, i barely had time to spend here on tumblr. i havent written a single matchup in almost a week, people have been asking about it already, which is really strange lmao. but yeah, at the moment I'm feeling quite okay, though I'm always a bit worn out

1. Last Song?

Ughgh I think Malibu by Hole. I last listened to a podcast and I only use Spotify so I’m like 98% it was Malibu. Anyways I love that song. It’s hopeful and sad and when I was in high school I really wanted someone to whisk me away and we’d go live somewhere by the beach in like a van. You know like those kinda romantic, hazy dreams of van-life before you realize that it’s not realistic.

2. Last Show?

I was gonna say The Last of Us, but actually I watched Modern Family last night. TBH my partner likes TLoU a lot more than I do, but it’s got some scenes that melt my heart a bit. Anyways Modern Family always acts like a personal pick-me-up since it’s kinda nostalgic. Plus sometimes I wish my family was more like them. It also kinda helped me realize what wasn’t healthy about my own personal relationships and know that life goes on even if your family sucks sometimes so even if it’s a mess it kinda has helped me? Idk why I’m trying to explain myself here lmao. I had a class where everyone said it was problematic and I don’t want people thinking I agree with everything in the show or whatever.

3. Currently Watching?

I just finished watching Wakanda Forever so I think it counts since I started this before it ended lmao. Anyways I thought it was okay. Not good, but not terrible. But I also think it was closer to terrible than good. It just felt confused, like it didn’t know what message or arc Shuri was supposed to have so idk idk. I’m not a movie critic so… yeah

4. Currently Reading?

I’m still reading Hyperion. I know it’s been a month, but in my defense the blues have hit me like a truck and I’ve solely been focusing on keeping my GPA. I have one more short story left, which is the Consol’s. Also, I should’ve mentioned but it’s a collection of sci-fi short stories (Canterbury Tales style) taking place eons into the future after Earth has literally imploded. It follows a group of people brought together on a pilgrimage to travel to the mysterious Time Temple on the planet of Hyperion. There’s more but I really don’t wanna spoil anything for anyone who might want to read or was already planning. Anyways the priest’s tale is my absolute favorite, because I like it’s spooky vibe and other spoiler-filled reasons. However they’re all written really well and I would recommend this to just about everyone since I think it’s just a really fun read.

5. Current Obsession?

Oof I don’t really have one because I’ve been feeling down. However Cyberpunk 2077 was it for a while, then TES again, and I’m just floating now. Anyways I’m always interested in TES, the Witcher, Dragon Age, etc. It’s just not as intense as other people though. I feel kinda boring now. Well, at least I’ve been getting back into art and blender and messing around with trying to learn my father’s language again. And I love writing and creating generally so that’s really that.

6. Unrelated Stuff I’ve Been Doing?

I already talked about this a little I guess. I’m learning Polish again and watching more shows with the dub in Spanish so I don’t lose it since I just don’t talk to my family much anymore. I’ve been messing with blender and unreal engine. I re-started this art-schedule-thing that I got from a yt video. I really want to improve my digital art. I also have like 10 billion tabs open with videos on blender and unreal so maybe I’ll post what I’m working on one day. I kinda gave up on my NaNoWriMo because I’m too moody and I don’t know what’s wrong with my executive function but we haven’t been on the same page recently. However, listening to podcasts (like Unresolved Textual Tension or You’re Wrong About and Rotten Mango) has kinda helped my mood a little. But if I’m being real here, real life kinda takes up most of my time. So school (gotta love deciding for a dual degree really late in my undergrad) and all the volunteer/internship things I have to do kinda just take up most of my life. That’s a little depressing lmao, but it is what it is.
