Jumping into Lily Orchard drama is probably not the thing I want to grace my blog with but I'm loving people who focus on her only NOW noticing how much she rips off and plagiarises other YouTubers cause. Yeah. That's been most of her content since she started

And it's not just format let me stress here-she steals lines jokes paragraphs points from other YouTubers and bloggers

Yahtzee is the most obvious one (she's kind of Uno reversed back to somewhat aping his art style), but I immediately picked up beats she took from Hbomberguy and Movie Bob. Jim Sterling is someone brought up a lot here

Her Glass of Water segments were lifted in format from Movie Bob's Big Picture. The "and here's why" thing is really similar to Hbomb's style (though in the interest of fairness everyone took that formula)

If there are people going into her content to prove this....well God bless ya cause you couldn't pay me but this has been a problem for most of her career.

Hi there I just want to say I absolutely love your comics and your characters! How do you write such good characters?

Hey, thank you! I really love my characters and have put a lot of work into letting them express themselves.

I've actually gotten asked about how I write characters before, so if you don't mind, I'm going to use your post here to talk about my own process.

The best writing advice I've gotten comes from this video clip by Yahtzee Crowshaw. To summarize it: A character needs only 4 things: a goal, strengths to help them achieve that goal, flaws for them to overcome, and a quirk to make them memorable. Then consider how those traits will cause that character to interact with other characters and the world.

Eve wants to be respected by her friends and look out for them. She's tough and direct, but has the tendency to go overboard or act without thinking. She's very much the tom-boy jock type, doesn't take crap, and enjoys building things.

My personal test for seeing if a character is fleshed out enough is by dropping them in a room with a locked door and imagining what they do next. Eve would body check the door while Tiff would try knocking. If all I can imagine is a character standing in the room staring blankly and waiting, then I need to work on that character a little more.

one of the artists i look up as a writer and designer, despite rarely talking about him is Yahtzee Croshaw. ive always been quite fond of his writing and games, and one of my favourite games of his was The Consuming Shadow, which I Trust Only You is a love letter to, in some ways

i spent a lot of hours in TCS, it's a genuinely delightful dungeon crawler, that went on to shape my appreciation for table top games such as Esoteric Enterprises one day i'll make a game that focuses more on the crawling aspect of that experience that i'd like to elaborate on

but ITOY is much more based on how I would simply record my playtests as journals, because they had such character to them. And today I found this hidden in my home, after a bunch of friends had stayed at my place for a while. Their own game of ITOY, their parting gift

And I'm just so happy I became a game designer. I'm so glad my friends had fun with this. And I can't help but remember the Consuming Shadow, the loneliness of it all. ITOY is much harder, you are going to fail, but I'm happy of how it's made my friends all come together.
