Blue Birthday - Episode 10

I forgot introductions so I have to pause back a second with what I have just seen. WAIT?? WHAT? Did I forget that the librarian was Seojun’s sister or what? Cause in the scenario when he didn’t die, it’s the one she did, wasn’t it? And she’s the owner of the café and heard everything about the photos, saw the leftovers of the pictures Harin burnt. So... SO??? Am I jumping to conclusions too quickly because I don’t remember the characters of the story? I am waiting for a new plot twist. Cause then this is still too easy when we have still 6 more episodes after that one.

So she used the id card that Harin dropped to go to her place, pretends she got plastic surgery so the guy would open the door for her, I guess she pretended to have lost her keys. Damn. I was not ready for something like this. Anyways, she grabs all of Harin’s pictures and burns them until she travels back to the past.

When Harin asks the detectives about Kim Sinwoo, they don’t know who’s she’s talking about and they throw her out of the police station. Damn, not another kill. And yuuuup. He also died when they were in high school. Eunseong doesn’t remember anything either, only Harin seems to know of the changes. Wow strange. He also committed suicide by slicing open his wrists. THAT IS JUST A COINCIDENCE. Two students, same class, same year, same kind of suicide. Yup, just normal. So she realizes the past changed again, but this time it wasn’t because of her. So she goes back home only to discover someone took the picture in her bag. I’m glad she didn’t store them all at the same place. So now there’s only two pictures left to find the culprit. First, she doubts Eunseong cause she told him everything, but then she’s like no, it’s not him. Then she thinks of Sujin. But she decides to go back were she was last, the café at which she bumps into Hyemin (Seojun’s sister). She lets her in to check for what she lost. Then she hands her back her ID. Gosh. When they part way, she sees on her way out the trash can in which Hyemin burnt the picture and finds a piece of a burnt picture. How long do you think it will take for her to connect the dots? Oh wow, faster than I expected, even though she brushes away the thought of Hyemin being the culprit for now.

Harin travels back to the past and tells everything she knows to Seojun. When they go check the camera, it’s not there anymore. Obviously. Hyemin heard everything Harin told her friends. So she doubts Eungseong, cause she didn’t tell anyone. Seojun suggests that they find a knife, but she thinks of the follenir (remember the drug for animals). Anyways, she finds it and Seojun says they should hand it to the police... GUYS STOP TOUCHING IT! You don’t touch proof, the finger prints are going to get all messed up. Anyways, now she’s suspecting Hyemin. They turn in the thing and walk happily all lovey-dovey until something falls down on them and Seojun gets hurt protecting Harin. Duh, there’s a price when meddling with the past. How bad is it? I can’t tell you for the very good reason that... the episode ended and I don’t know :D

So yuppppp. It is all for now, we’ll see more of it next time. Hopefully, we won’t run circles again. I can’t believe there’s still that many episodes left when there’s only one picture left and we burnt two of them today. Anyways. See you!

Mini-review:

I'm gonna be very honest: I hate football/soccer and, initially, I only wanted to watch this because I adore IU. So, color me surprised, cause I enjoyed it a lot. I should have seen it coming tbh, cause I've always liked this type of inspirational-underdog storylines. Anyway, the characters were engaging, the script was really funny and witty, and the whole cast was great. IU does steal the show, proving that she has a natural knack for fast-paced comedy and one-liners (I swear I'm not being biased here). But all the other actors do an amazing job too! My only real complain is that the movie felt a tad too long, and the final act dragged a bit. But, besides that, I had a lot of fun watching it and I would definitely recommend it!

MOVIE REVIEW | Dream (2023)

In this film about broken dreams and second chances, a professional football player finds himself in a difficult position due to a mix of bad decisions and bad luck. He also has no real support system in his mother (who is on the run for scamming people) and his agency wants him to quit the sport to become a celebrity.

Is in this moment of his life that to rehabilitate his image he is forced to become the coach of a football team conformed by homeless men that will compete on a charity tournament.

Reluctantly, he learns the reasons why these men found themselves living in the streets. Addiction, bad decisions, abandonment, grief, among other motives. What they all have in common is that through this tournament they are looking to become a better version of themselves.

To record every moment of their journey, a documentary director (deep in student debt and stress) needs to find the right angle to have this film be a success for her and them.

It’s through teamwork and sharing their problems, that this team of odd men out find -perhaps for the first time in their lives- a real support system and even a family.

Dream is a solid comedy with really touching moments that brought some tears to my eyes. The film tries to shed some light on current social issues in South Korea through the housing problem these men are going through.

Park Seo Joon gives a good performance going from disheartened to finding a new dream and people to fight for. His chemistry with IU is hilarious to watch as they play entirely platonic teammates throwing jabs at each other, even long after they start to get along.

IU’s character as the documentary director who is forced to believe in herself into success is both fun and oh, so real.

The heart of the film, however, is Heo Joon Seok, whose character never lost hope and fought from beginning to end so the team could achieve their dream. The rest of the actors bring some emotions though the respective stories that makes the comedy more grounded.

Overall, I enjoyed this film.

A soccer player that falls out of grace becomes the coach of a group of homeless men training for the Homeless World Cup that will be held in England. Is the over used plot of the underdog, we know what to expect and it doesn’t disappoint.

I liked the film even when it touches in a very superficial way how people see the homeless. Each men has a story of love and struggle and I like to see that the tournament helped them finds out and kept them together as a support system.

Blue Birthday - Episode 8

I’m supposed to do chores outside, so why not instead getting back in the game with this blog? The last couple of times, I did some reviews of Eternal Love, but I feel for something a little shorter this time and I thought why not getting back on with this one? Plus, who doesn’t love a good mystery? We still have a few pictures to burn to save our boy. It’s been more than a year, so I have absolutely no memory of what are the protagonists’ names are, I’m too lazy to read my previous recaps, so hopefully... you’ll still bear with me and my ways :D

Sooooo missy here got caught using the camera to come back to the past. He knows because he used to do it all the time so she would never get hurt. That’s kind of sweet. However he tells that even though he gets killed, not to come back again. Ha Rin (that’s the girl’s name, I picked it up quickly hehehe) gets mad at Seo Jun (and that’s the booooy) for telling her not to come back, because it was so hard for her to live on with all those regrets. But when he tries to tell her that it’s for her own good, the ringing starts to bug her and she’s brought back to the present before they can even finish their discussion while she wonders if she hasn’t just been greedy all this time.

Present Ha Rin is feeling devastated and sad, because she feels her feelings are not reciprocated. She’s about to destroy the leftover pictures when she gets a call from Su Jin (I don’t remember who that is, but I figure it’s one of her friends, probably the best friend she almost lost, we’ll see). So her friend was with her boyfriend and she wonders if they should break up since they fight all the time. Ha Rin reasons with her and leads her friend to think she is meeting with someone. The topic moves to Ji Seojun and Ha Rin says she met with him and all, but Su Jin seems to think she had dream. Who bets that he’s still dead since her last past travel trip? Me. I do. Wow, so she tells Su Jin she traveled back to the past through pictures. At this point, the girl must think she’s completely wacko. Ha Rin says she really regrets what happened, so Su Jin tells her not to listen to Seojun and go back anyways, that she should do whatever she wants in her dream. Plus she never listens to anyone. So she gets up to the restroom and decides to burn another picture, so she won’t have anymore regrets.

While she sneaks around to get more infos on this potential murderer, she almost gets crushed by a broken bookshelf. Fortunately, Seojun saves her just in time. And he tells her that she shouldn’t come back because every time she does, she has to pay the price and the more she does, the higher the cost. She does her little I’m very stubborn speech and it seems to me like they reconcile and she asks him to help her. While they tidy the mess from the bookshelf, they notice that someone must have tampered with it on purpose, since one of the legs has been cut through. Meanwhile, other male friend who’s also in love with Ha Rin eavesdrops on them. And he also heard them last time when Seojin confronted Ha Rin and told her not to come back. There’s nothing to make out of it for now. Ha Rin and Seojun install a camera in the photo room and he promises to send an email to her as soon as he sees something. So first thing she does when she goes back - let’s not care about the friend that was ditched at the café right - is to go check her email. And now she thinks that the culprit is Kim Sinwu, some guy that doesn’t like Seojun. But we’re only eight episodes in, he’s definitely not the culprit. Anyways, so she calls Eunsong (lovestruck side boy) to ask about Sinwu. Turns he does deliveries. Even bigger of a coincidence, he delivers to her center. Exactly that day. How amazing! She confesses to Eunseong that Seojun was murdered and then runs into Sinwu. And... DUN DUN DUN DUN.

The rest is going to be in episode 9. At this point, I think Ha Rin is really annoying :D I think she’s pretty selfish and I don’t know. I want to see a little bit of growth in her and so far... meh. But we’ll see! See you next time!
