So one overlord dynamic I kinda like to think about is that of the overlords with their contracts. Specifically, what is expected of an overlord when it comes to those under them and living within their various territories. I got to thinking about it, of course, while rewatching the episode where we meet said overlords. Specifically from the way Carmilla addressed the room by calling them "Sovereign Overlords" and stating they collectively own almost all of the population. The meeting itself, before Velvette's interrupted and derailment, actually had an interesting topic to me.
What do overlords do about the extermination? Do they just leave it to their contractors and hole up? Do they out in prep work ahead and afterwords to minimize the damage and help with recovery? Are there certain unspoken expectations of an overlord and their treatment of their souls such as protection and providing for the contractor's needs? Is this a meeting that happens after every extermination?
We only have two proper examples of Overlord and Contractor dyanamic, 3/4ths of which are main characters. Angel and Valentino, and Husk and Alastor. And in both there's a clear difference between how the Val and Alastor treat their contractor, but is that because of their differing personalities, or does one or both of them have an uncommon dynamic with their souls where one has an iron fist and abuses their souls to an excessive amount while the other has too much leeway? What does the average overlord and contractor dynamic look like?
Is part of the reason why the Vees are so disrespected amongst their own peers because of how their treat their employees and contractors?
So many questions...
it is pretty interesting think about, I do hope we get to see more on the souls the other overlords own. I guess you could compare it to how employees are treated at a workplace? except there's the added bonus of btw your soul is literally owned by this person and you can't do shit about it
also speaking of the extermination and souls owned by overlords, like obviously valentino doesn't ACTUALLY care about angel dust but does he not care that he could've lost a soul during the episode 8 extermination. did he even try to ask vox to shift the camera away from alastor so he could check LMAO.
