When meeting Dazai and after he finds out they are a Gemini whilst he himself is a Taurus understands why there is a friction between them but also knows they have the potential to have a deep bond.

hi hi hiii, I’m gonna try and write a little smth because I want to start writing, please please PLEASE tell me how I can improve, and what you think! It’s just gonna be a little 15 yr old Soukoku thingy :) please also tell me how I could write dazais character better, I’m so scared to write him ooc. Also idk who Chuuya would’ve had a crush on in the past BUT ROLL WITH MEEEEE.

Dazai wasn’t used to feeling emotions very strongly at all. He’d never fallen for anyone, never experienced butterflies when a certain someone smiled at him, never felt blood rush to his cheeks from small acts of affection. To be fair, he still hasn’t. The realization that he loved chuuya is just something he knew was there. Dazai doesn’t want to hurt Chuuya, to ruin one of the only good things he has. He cares to much about the boy, thought he’ll never admit it. So he won’t say anything. After all, chuuya doesn’t love him.

At least, that’s what Dazai thinks.

Chuuya has experienced love before. He’s had a crush before, but he’s never liked having one. And when he realized he has a crush on Osamu dazai of all people, hes angry. Not at Dazai, although he does seem to take it out on him. He’s angry at himself. For loving someone who could only bring him pain. And that’s not something he’s willing to risk. He’s not opening himself up to someone who hates him. After all, that’s how dazai feels about him.

Or at least.. that’s what Chuuya thinks.

So they go about their lives, loving one another, but never realizing, never saying anything. One because he wants to protect the other, and the other because he wants to protect himself. Nothing will come of these feelings. (or will there.. ;)

you’re so right that 16!chuuya wouldn’t like 22!chuuya. at that age even though he swore loyalty, he didn’t really want to be in the mafia. he only joined to save the sheep, and part of him wanted detective murase to save him and get him out of the mafia in stormbringer. seeing 22!dazai would prove to him in a way that he could leave, and yet 22!chuuya is proof he doesn’t. he’d probably have a lot of conflicted feelings about it.

Chuuya WAS given the chance to get out of the Mafia! He genuinely didn't want that life, even if he says otherwise, Even if he argued he chose to join the Port Mafia, he really DIDN'T. And every character he was close to in that era from 15-16ish was trying their hardest to keep him there except! Murase and Verlaine. Chuuya obviously hates verlaine but. Murase is an interesting case because the two of them obviously have a shared history! Chuuya does actually care about Murase, and he really deep down wanted him to bring him to the light and all that. But MURASE DIES! Right in Chuuya's arms, right before his eyes! And the only real chance of leaving dies right alongside him.

So now he's an adult, and he's accepted that "this is the way things are now" and while his relationships have changed, and they way he takes care of himself has changed I'd argue that Chuuya himself as a character hasn't changed much since SB (or even 15 tbh. for such a dynamic personality, he's kinda a static character). He's given up the idea of ever leaving the mafia, and sorta locked himself down, Chuuya /hates/ the idea of 'giving up'. I'm sure if 16 Chuuya looked at himself at 22, he'd find that he's still exactly where he was, just with a fancier coat, and IDK if he'd like that very much.
