while utonium was okay with bruce being batman, they definitely had a long talk about bruce allowing his sons in the vigilante life.

utonium doesn’t have a lot of bearing on the decision. all of bruce’s children except for one are already adults and have been doing the vigilante thing for years, some for over a decade. the professor is kind of privy to the information that damian was raised in a difficult environment that made him grow up too quickly, gave him no choice but to be a soldier at such a young age, and that he dons the title of robin with pride. but it doesn’t stop the uneasiness he feels about it.

the professor didn’t decide to transer to wayne enterprises and move to gotham just for the pay raise and the great opportunity it would be for his academic career. no, there was another reason for it.

he’s a well adjusted man who undestands that townsville needed the powerpuff girls on some degree. it was actually a statistic that crime rates significantly dropped on the time period that his daughters were active as townsville’s protectors. but he was just one man and no matter how superpowered his kids may be, they were still children. the worry that festered deep in his heart grew with every villain that they faced and every petty crime that they stopped. there were a few times where it became life-threatening for the girls to even be attempting to save the day.

he was just one man and he was the father to three beautiful girls that, although accidental and a marvel of science, were the additional pieces of a puzzle that made his life feel complete. no field of science or divine miracle would fix his heart if he were ever to lose his girls because he couldn’t get past the ‘obligation’ he felt to his hometown.

townsville was home for the first 46 years of his life but his daughters were his life until his death. it didn’t take much convincing for him to pack his bags.

he told all of this to bruce and held him in his arms when he aired his concerns in return. his fear of being a first-time parent to a kid that had just lost his parents like he did. the unimaginable grief he drowned in when jason died and came back angrier at him and at the world. the ironic worry he felt whenever tim would go on an unhealthy amount of days without sleep. all the fear and anxiety and uncertainty that he went through as a father of how many children he currently has under his wing.

but with as much of the negatives, there was just as much, slowly becoming more, of the positives. bruce and utonium spent the rest of the night talking and laughing about the antics their children had put them through. the firsts, the tantrums, the achievements, everything. every single thing that made them the fathers that they were.

not only was the love between them slowly growing, there was also the love that they had for their own kids and the other’s that made then think that they would be okay in the end.

maybe one day i’ll legit write a full fledged fanfic about my batonium au or at least a series of oneshots instead of the mishmash of headcanons i have right now but i don’t think it’ll be anytime soon with me being busy with college 🥲😅

BATONIUM AGES

okay so i started thinking about the specific ages of the utoniums and the batfam more and i think i’ve settled on something.

googling the professor’s age states that he’s either in his mid 40s to early 60s which gives me nothing at all. so i’m going to assume that when the ppg were made, he was like 46 years old.

the ppg just incarnated into the world as full on children and they have been depicted as being around 5 years old. so we’re going with that. considering the timeskip of a few years i’ve kind of established in the batonium au, the girls would be now 8 or 9 years old physically which would make the professor about 49-50 in the current timeline.

now, the hard part. the batfam’s ages. honestly, everytime i search bruce wayne’s age it’s the most fuck all thing ever. it’s the same with dick. and basically every other batfam member. goddamnit dc pls make my life easier 😭

so since the batfam’s ages are up to fuck all, i’ve taken someone’s headcanon ages from quora as a basis for my own age chart thing.

bruce wayne: 45

dick grayson: 27

jason todd: 22

tim drake: 20

damian wayne: 14

cassandra cain: 22

stephanie brown: 20

professor utonium: 49-50

ppg: 8-9 physically, they are technically 3-4 years old

the events of powerpuff girls (og show) happen about 3-4 yrs before this au so there we go. i hope this makes it easier for me to visualize the au in upcoming installments 🥲, also make it easier for you guys too. and this also means that damien isn’t the baby anymore 🫶🏼

the girls definitely thought bruce was a villain when they used their x-ray vision the first time they stepped foot in the manor.

batonium had been going at this dating thing for a couple of months now and the girls are still on the fence about bruce. surely if he was another sedusa situation then it wouldn’t take months for his evil plan to unfold, right? they can’t deny that bruce makes the professor happy but the trauma from the sedusa incident was deeper than they realized. as much as they wanted to trust bruce, there was something within them that couldn’t, at the moment.

bruce was briefed by the professor about the unfortunate ‘ex’ cause utonium felt like bruce deserved to know. it’s not that the girls hate him exactly, they’re just super cautious. bruce completely understands and only works harder to earn the girls’ trust. part of his campaign was opening up more of himself to the little family of the man he’d grown to adore. well, as much as he could while still keeping the batman thing a secret and trying to unlearn his emotionally constipated ways. (he goes to therapy because he deserves and needs it)

and so, what better way to open up more about himself than to open up his home to the utonium family? of course, he picked a day where most of the batfam were busy. only dick and alfred were in the house, which is basically the best combination bruce could think of when introducing a prospective partner who has children of their own.

alfred and dick were wonderful to the girls and it was heartwarming to see how content it made utonium feel. bruce felt like he could get away with wrapping his arm around the professor’s waist and it turned out to be true when he only got a glare from buttercup and no demands to unhand her dad.

on the girls’ part, dick and alfred were effective persuasion to start sort of warming up to the idea of boyfriend bruce. granted, it would take some time for them to actually start trusting the man but it was a start.

bruce was giving the utonium family a tour of the wayne manor, dick tagging along with them and supplying an inane story that happened in every space that they walked through. it was great entertainment for the girls and utonium as well. the batfam is nothing but rambunctious to say the least. buttercup was starting to think that damien might be her favorite of the bunch (oh how wrong/right she was).

they eventually reach the study that had the secret entrance to the batcave and blossom just suddenly has this niggling feeling. she’s an intuitive girl and her instincts have never steered her wrong before, no matter how young she was. deciding to trust herself, she uses her handy dandy x-ray vision and could see what she could only assume was an entrance to a secret villain lair. she wasted no time flying to her father’s side and her sisters were close behind despite their confusion.

utonium immediately chastised his daughters while bruce and dick momentarily paused before looking at each other.

“dad, we told you! he’s a bad guy!” blossom yelled causing her sisters to gasp and glare at bruce. dick couldn’t stop the loud cackle that pushed through his lips even if he tried. bruce looked confused.

“now what makes you say that?” utonium asked as he kneeled down. it had already been a few years since the science accident that created his daughters and while they were steadily growing, they were still quite small compared to his tall stature.

“he has a secret entrance to his villain lair behind the clock! bubbles and buttercup can look for themselves to prove that i’m telling the truth.”

after doing as their sister said, they flanked the professor with their assent that yes there IS a secret entrance to an evil lair there, we wouldn’t lie about it!

utonium knew his daughters had no reason to lie for something quite as serious as this so he could only look towards bruce for answers.

of all the ways that bruce could’ve revealed the batman to the professor, he didn’t expect that it would be like this. he had wanted to wait a bit more, maybe a year, before telling. and even then, he was hesitant about revealing the vigilante thing entirely. he was content to keep it a secret because he didn’t know how he could deal with utonium reacting negatively. it was only with the combined intervention of all his children and alfred that he even began to consider divulging his and his family’s alter egos to the utoniums. bruce couldn’t enter a relationship that he had hopes of lasting if he couldn’t share the single most important thing about him as a person.

he was really hoping that the moment he tells utonium would be under his own terms in which he had control over the situation but the girls just. poof. made all that hope go down the drain. he’d already been told by the professor that the girls were superpowered and that they had a range of abilities but it seems like he’d be putting x-ray vision into the list.

glancing at dick who was barely stifling his gighles, bruce sighed. “i’m not a villain or a bad guy. i’m. . . batman.”

now, utonium has heard of batman. who hasn’t? and ever since living in gotham, he’s been hearing more and more about the guy and he’s made an opinion. batman is good, though his slightly violent methods seem to suggest otherwise. gotham needs someone like the dark knight to keep things in check, and something that a lot of the public didn’t notice is that he was a lot more compassionate than they realized. why else would he send a gaggle of rogues to a psychiatric institution if not to give them the means to heal themselves? (utonium would feel differently about arkham whenever he finds out about the abuse and neglect that was prevalent in the facility.)

so when he heard buttercup say that the batman sounded very much like a villain name, utonium chuckled. and so, everyone’s attention was suddenly on him. his girls looked confused, wondering how he could laugh about this like it’s a light matter and he found himself smiling softly at them, silently wishing they’d stay this innocent for a little while longer.

“girls, remember how i told you about how townsville was before? how bad guys would always do bad things and that the people there would be too afraid to even go out of their homes?”

“yeah!” exclaimed buttercup. “but then you made us and we beat up the bad guys!” she looked very proud of that statement, as did her sisters. when utonium glanced at the waynes still standing in front of them, they both looked confused. utonium sighed.

“yes. you beat up villains so that they’d go to jail and everybody would be safe. it’s the same for batman.”

“oh.” they still looked unconvinced, but the professor always told them the truth. it was only dick’s comment, that batman was friends with superman, that made the girls release the tension that was holding them up. their shoulders relaxed as they regarded bruce with a curious look. bruce nodded at them, confirming everything that’s been said about him.

“so… you won’t hurt us mr. batman?” bubbles hesitantly asked and isn’t that heartbreaking, that the thought of bruce harming them was at the forefront of their minds

bruce kneeled on one knee to be eye level with utonium’s daughter. “i promise you, i would never harm you, your sisters or your father intentionally. if i end up being mean and hurting you guys, you have my explicit permission to beat me up.”

bubbles giggled, the most trusting of the three, and held out her pinky finger. “pinky promise? and you can’t break it ever.”

since they were still at the age where pinky promises were sacred, blossom and buttercup also held out their pinkies with determined looks. bruce’s lips quirked into a small smile, bringing up his own pinky to seal the deal with each of them. “i pinky promise.”

dick, when recounting what happened to the rest of the family when they arrived back at the manor and bruce was driving the utoniums back to their apartment, had a lot of to say about how adorable the girls were and how funny it was when they called bruce a bad guy.

jason had to interrupt him. “wait, what do you mean they beat up criminals in their hometown? aren’t they like, 3 years old?”

it was at that point everybody realised something. sure, damian was also young when he started as robin but that was mostly due to the hellish and dangerous training that he was put through under the league at such a young age. was it the same for the girls? what it they were being forced to do it? sure, they had powers but they were still children.

although they expected to feel excitement about meeting the utoniums soon, now they could only feel a small sense of dread.

Who gets along with who in the Wayne-Utonium household and who fight like cats and dogs?

I love your idea that Damien and Bubbles are besties because of their love of animals and their artsy nature. Does Damien like Bullet the Squirrel?

bubbles and cass dance together and bruce melts every time

buttercup is on the fence about damien but they band together to annoy a mutual enemy: jason

blossom gets along well with tim and dick. she's a great listener and tim's very appreciative of that. she and dick kinda have that leader thing going on and they jokingly complain about jason and buttercup going against them

steph gets along with all the girls but mostly with buttercup

blossom and bubbles are civil with everyone while buttercup has gotten into so many fights with damien and jason

of course, this is all after they get to know each other well. their relationship was worse when the batkids were still their dad's pseudo-boyfriend's kids. both sets of children are very protective over their fathers and the ppg were definitely more protective due to the professor being a bit slow. they've also heard the rumors about bruce (blossom did an extensive internet search during their super duper important emergency meeting about someone flirting with their dad). so yeah, super vigilant and that extended to bruce's kids.

i'm excited for what u have in store dude. it's cute that u included bunny. bliss i'm on the fence about because i remember the hate she got when she was first introduced (i also haven't seen the reboot ppg so i still have my biases). can't wait for the rowdyruff bois to show up

it came to me in a vision while i was looking at professor utonium fanart so all the ideas i have are just a misshapen collage in my mind. but rest assured whenever i get another vision, i'll post about it. though maybe i'll make a post about the ages of the children and the timeline when i think more about it

The Clown Car Chronicles (Part 1)!;

Summary: The Utoniums move to Gotham and meet Gotham's most beloved family.

“The City of Gotham. It's home to some of the top research labs in the world.” Professor Utonium said, driving the family station wagon to their newest address.

“Yeah, but why are we moving there?” Bliss mumbled displeased from the passenger’s seat as Gotham came into view.

“Well, I took a job offer at Wayne Enterprises’ lab. And we have to move here for me to work there.”

“Oh. That makes sense.” Blossom piped up from the backseat, looking up from her book.

“Well, I think it sounds stupid.” Buttercup huffed. Arms crossed.

“Now that's something I can agree with.” Bliss muttered in agreement, before putting her headphones back on.

All while Bubbles looked out the rearview mirror with Bullet and Bunny, all of them sporting frowns as Townsville got smaller and smaller the closer they got to Gotham.

“....Bye-bye, Townsville…” The blonde sighed, sadly, holding Octi close to her chest.

“And if what I’ve heard is true, Gotham is a great place to live.” Professor added, trying to sound reassuring.

the first time professor utonium mentions bruce to the girls, they’re already on edge. you can’t blame them exactly. the professor didn’t really have that much luck in regards to his love life and nobody could ever forget the ima/sedusa incident.

the first time they met bruce, the girls were more than suspicious. the man had offered to drive their dad to their school because his car was currently in the mechanic’s and gotham commute was absolute hell, according to the billionaire. bruce had brought his newest sports car and buttercup could see her most of the school staring and ogling. any other day, she would be reveling in the attention and would also drool about the fast (super fast) sportscar but she had a job to do. all three of them did.

the girls love their father, but professor utonium could be a little naive. he probably thought bruce was just being a generous boss by driving him to fetch them but they knew better.

bruce was surprised to be greeted with a nasty glare from who he could only assume was buttercup, a cold stare from the one with an enormous red ribbon who he remembered was blossom, and a hesitant smile from the normally bubbly bubbles. it seems like he has a lot of work ahead of him.

one time, professor utonium had to bring the girls to work because the babysitter cancelled last minute. but it seemed like it wasn’t a problem in his department because everyone was wrapped around the girls’ fingers. blossom asked intelligent questions, genuinely wanting to know more. bubbles was sweet and you would be a monster to not love her. buttercup asked the most insane questions that under further consideration, were actually quite creative questions that gave the scientists a new perspective so they weren’t too mad.

and professor utonium’s colleagues stopped being surprised when their boss would come around. it was almost hilarious how oblivious the professor could be and it was great entertainment watching the supposed playboy ceo of wayne enterprise look head over heels for the new scientist.

it only made their day even better when the girls became guarded and suddenly formed a protective formation around their father at the appearance of the billionaire.

bruce wayne let out a sigh but the determination in his face was clear as day. the r&d employees could only wish their boss good luck while silently hoping that he’d be good to their coworker. the professor’s gentle fatherly demeanor had endeared him to almost everybody in the r&d department and they would be lowkey pissed if their boss ever broke his heart. though they’re sure no one would be more enraged than the professor’s daughters.
