Death as a person
Death as a person is the fuckboy you fantasize about so much that he becomes a totally different person in your head. You write nostalgic poems about his appealing and alluring beauty and how his smile lights up your world but in reality he is nothing but a facade who secretly creates darkness in the world. Most days you look up to the sky and you remember him as your bright star but the sad reality is that he is a blackhole that will heartlessly suck the life out of you. He is so perfect and angelic in your mind that you romanticize his cruelty and his sadist narcissism. In the end you cry yourself to sleep because this time he really tore you apart along with the perfect image of him that you carefully cradle in your delusional head. You end up wishing that he remained a flawless picture in your head but the reality is he takes, destroys and smiles just like the Devil himself.

Quietly fixing claws and hands together
Grew tired and started to drift
Back to the time unbloodied

with inscrutable, dark eyes
slow-moving on the ground
Pale eyes and straight mouths

A warzone can be
personal and malicious
But no one wanted to mention
the end of my trip
I could no longer listen
to a war song knowing that
waiting for something new
was the drop-off point

A hospital room
If you listen close enough, you can hear a certain music in a hospital room. Music created by the constant beeping of a machine indicating a heartbeat, a life. As well as the rugged breathing of the sick and the people who love them. They hold their breaths, too scared to let out a single blow of air for it may be the last breath of the one they truly love.
You feel yourself getting light-headed from the music of the hospital accompanied by your thumping heart and your pleading soul. You watch him in his hospital bed, barely breathing at all, that it secretly scares you to the core. You fear that any moment the rising and the falling of his chest would finally come to an end and the hospital room music will be replaced with something defeaning as a silent heart. You sit quietly in the cold, stale room of endless dead white praying that he would finally wake up and paint this boring place with all the vivid colors of life.

A Speech on the Importance of Positive Thinking
I would like to begin my speech by asking all of you a question. You do not have to say your answer out loud, you could simply talk to yourself and reflect quietly. Is this glass half empty or half full? Maybe you have heard about this statement from your previous teachers or maybe you read a post about it. If it is your first time to hear this question then maybe you’re thinking that the question is rather weird because who actually cares if it is half full or half empty right? But did you know that your response to that question reflects a huge part of your identity and your way of thinking as a person. It shows your outlook in life, your attitude towards yourself and towards everything else around you. So technically this simple question tells you if you are optimistic, a person who practices positive thinkinlg, or if you are pessimistic, a person who practices negative thinking, and what you should be improving about yourself. Our way of thinking may fall under the state of our mental health but did you know that it can also tell us important facts our physical health and our overall well being? Today I am here to talk about how positive thinking is not only beneficial to our mental health, it also helps our physical health and our overall well being.
According to Charmaine Saunders, there are a lot of misconceptions about positive thinking because often times it is viewed as being happy or smiling all the time but its definition cannot be simply limited by these emotions. Positive thinking is a philosophy or a way of life where in a person strives to find the good things in even in different situations in life. It is very easy to be happy and smile when life is free from complications and problems, but when life becomes complicated and very difficult to deal with then this is when a person's positive thinking is put to the test. Positive thinking is not a hereditary trait which we can acquire from our parents nor is it something that can be bought anywhere, positive thinking is a skill that we must continually practice for us to fully understand and grasp it. It is a skill that could be life changing.
Positive thinking does not only keep your mental health fresh and healthy but it also has a lot of benefits to your physical health and overall well being. According to positive psychology researcher Suzanne Segerstrom, "Setbacks are inherent to almost every worthwhile human activity, and a number of studies show that optimists are in general both psychologically and physiologically healthier." She conducted a research on the effects of positive thinking to our mind and body. One of her findings is that positive thinkers are better at coping with stress and disappointment because instead of focusing on this negative event they would rather look for better solution which makes them efficient, effective and successful people. Segerstrom also found out that positive thinkers have stronger immune system than negative thinkers. According to the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, positive thinking provides a lot of health benefits such as increased life span, lower rates of depression, lower levels of distress, greater resistance to the common cold, better psychological and physical well-being, better cardiovascular health and reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease. Researchers themselves are baffled on why positive thinkers experience such health benefits but one theory is that positive thinking reduces stress along with its harmful effects to our body.
I understand how surprised everyone must be from all of the facts that I shared about positive thinking and you must all be wondering how can you can master the skill of positive thinking to unlock all of its wondrous benefits. According to the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, these are the 6 steps that we should do regularly to master the skill of positive thinking. First you must identify what areas you should change in your life. Second, check yourself. Third, be open to humor. Fourth, follow a healthy lifestyle. Fifth, surround yourself with positive people. Lastly, practice positive self-talk. These are simple steps which one must turn into habits to become a pro in positive thinking.
Positive thinking is not about ignoring the heartbreaking and stressful reality around us. Positive thinking is being able to remain optimistic amidst all of these problems and still being able to make smart decisions in times of stressful emergencies. Remember that positive thinking does not only help our mental health but our physical health and our overall well being as well. So next time you find yourself in a stressful situation close you eyes for a moment, take a deep breath and ask yourself is my cup half empty or half full?
