Redesigning Public Domain Characters: Rainbow Boy

"Having somehow gained superhuman "rainbow control" that only works when light is shining on him (but can be overcome through the use of an "ingenious solar battery"), Jay (later "Jack") Walton, worker for the "Wizard Kid Radio Program", became the crime fighter Rainbow Boy, often working alongside fellow hero, Hydroman."
Alright so, my idea for Rainbow Boy is that in this interpretation, he's a more "She-Hulk" kinda hero that's on the Meta side, being able to sorta break the 4th Wall. Not sure if he'd be able to do it himself, or if I'd go with an idea like "He has an Encyclopedia of information about various heroes/villains/whatever in this universe". Either way, he's definitely on the more comedic side.
I can also see him and whatever this universe's Hydroman as like a sorta "Booster Gold + Blue Beetle" comedic duo kinda deal.
Also, he always messes with people who assume he's gay just because he's covered in rainbows. Sure, he IS gay, but they have no way of actually knowing that.
On the design side of things, you can definitely tell I changed him up alot. Really I just went with whatever came to mind, and that happened to also include making this version of him black. Unfortunately, also ended up taking away that weird hat to better show off his hair. Maybe he has that for an alternate costume?

Over a year ago, I did a drawing on regular paper of Miu from Danganronpa transformed into a Superhero with the Rabbit Miraculous from Miraculous Ladybug. Decided to do a digital version of it yesterday, so here she is: Playboy. It's worth noting that this was absolutely with a drawing base, but I have no idea how to find it again. Just know that I didn't make it all by myself.
I imagine that in this universe, all the Miraculous Users are Ultimates from Hope's Peak Academy. Junko somehow stole the Butterfly Miraculous, because of course it was her, and uses it to cause Despair with Akumatized Villains.
Despite what you may expect from someone like Miu, she actually gets along great with the Rabbit Kwami, Fluff. Deep down, Miu is an insecure, frail girl. She just puts up alot of defenses to try to make herself seem lewd and arrogant. She's far nicer with Fluff, because she doesn't feel the need to be fake with the Rabbit Kwami, since Fluff is always so caring despite also being really scatter-brained. Plus, Miu would have trouble being mean to a small rabbit that's able to fit in her hands. That'd just be a dick move.

Redesigning Public Domain Characters: Micro-Face

"Tom Wood was a factory worker and a failed inventor. When his brother, Jim, was killed by Big Boston's gangsters, Tom promised to avenge Jim's death so invented a "Micro-Mask" - a full-face mask that contained a built-in microphone (which allowed hm to amplify and throw his voice), a hearing amplifier, and "photoelectric lenses" that gave him x-ray vision. He could also attach telephone wires to his mask to make phone calls. Tom offered the invention to the U.S. government, only to be turned down. Regardless, he used it to become "Micro-Face!""
This backstory ultimately works pretty well, however there is a few things I'd change overall for some ideas I had.
-Big Boston is no-longer the big boss head honcho gangster, atleast at the time of Jim's death. Maybe he can try to strike out on his own later. Instead, Boston works for another gangster known as Hammerfist, essentially acting as an enforcer for him.
Note- Hammerfist is a mobster character from an entirely different Public Domain comic called "The Target" from Target Comics. Figured I'd sorta consolidate these a bit since they're all on the same world in this version of events.
-Micro-Face is absolutely more of a stealthy hero than "beat people up". He strives to cause trouble and retrieve important information from the inside. He can still fight, but he mainly plays mindgames and stuff like that.
-The Micro-Mask was something Tom and Jim made together, with Jim having a few of the ideas to help make it better. This means that Tom donning it to stop the gangsters is him using him and his brother's efforts combined.

Kelvin the Glaceon
Gender: Male
Ability: Snow Cloak
Tera: Ice
Based on the Glaceon I used in my Pokémon Scarlet playthrough. I swapped my team around alot because I wanted to have a large variety, but Kelvin was one of the ones I used to face off against the Elite Four and Champions. He came in handy against Larry and Hassel, and pulled his weight against Nemona too.

Redesigning Public Domain Characters: Mr. Slumber

Hope you're ready, cause this guy got a COMPLETE makeover. Like...I know this series is called "REDESIGNING" characters, but I kept absolutely nothing from his original design.
As for the context of the Original Version's story: "Morpheus Slumber was a ghost trapped in an unmarked grave. Through sheer force of will, he was able to escape the cemetary to torture the living to death with unspeakable nightmares. He rode a ghostly green horse and was accompanied by various demons he referred to as his "nightmares." He could also physically attack people while they were asleep. After being defeated by the Duke of Darkness, Mr. Slumber was forced back into the grave."
In this new Reworked version, he is still a spirit that rose from his grave. However, Morpheus Slumber abandoned any remaining bit of humanity he had when he became a ghost. Instead of his unfinished business being personal, it was the regret that he could not torment more people. Abandoning his humanity meant that Slumber could no longer appear as one in his spirit form, causing him to instead take on this creepy, reaper-like form you see now.
Now, he lurks in the darkness, observing his prey and waiting for when they next fall asleep. Once they do, he's capable of entering their dreams and turning them into nightmares. In doing this, he feeds on their fear for his own personal enjoyment, and every injury they take within the dream realm is inflicted upon their real body...Until there is no soul left to dream, upon which Mr. Slumber exits the empty husk, searching for his next victim.
#art#artwork#digital art#drawing#public domain#fanart#superhero#redesign#morpheus slumber#mr. slumber#supervillain#comics#horror#Kinda?? He's absolutely make to be creepy but I feel like its to the level that it isn't really that scary to look at.

Blade and Shield
Douglas Miller grew up always hearing how big of a guy he was. At first, he tried to take it as a compliment, but overtime he started feeling more insecure about it than anything else. Everyone always expected him to he this big brave tough guy, whether he was supposed to be a bully or stand up to the actual ones. In actuality though, Douglas had always been pretty meek, stammering as he tried to speak with others and finding it difficult to tell people no. In highschool, this culminated in his father telling him he needed to join the football team and put that huge body of his to actually good use. Douglas, ever the people-pleaser, especially when faced with his stern and demanding father, didn't even try to disagree and just tried out. The coach saw promise in him and decided to put him in, despite his struggles with putting his full strength in. Douglas was always right in the front, and was told focus on blocking access to his teammates so they could score. He did what he could, even though he really didn't like the feeling of others slamming right into him to try to knock him over...And eventually that boiled over into an argument with his father. Douglas had felt his whole body aching from a previous game, and that, along with the frustration from his father's demands, finally made him lash out and tell his father he hated football and every other sport, that he didn't want to play ANY of them. Unfortunately, Douglas' father wasn't a fan of this behavior, and kicked his son out in a rage, essentially disowning him.
Freshly homeless and with nowhere else to go, barely even being 18, Douglas found himself accepting to be used as a test subject by a famous corporation known as the New Heroes Foundation. This company was well-known for producing some of the most famous heroes his world had to offer, dating all the way back to World War 2. While their main method of doing this was technological enhancements, they had also been trying to master genetic modifications for years, and needed volunteers to experiment on in order to do so. After volunteering, the young man was given a massive contract for the terms of experiments...Along with a bunch of legal jargon he really didn't understand. Douglas had no money to hire a lawyer to look it over FOR him, so he ended up just signing it anyway in order to get the money.
After multiple long days of these experiments, Douglas found himself completely covered in some sort of metallic coating, with only his face spared from it. His already large body had become even bulkier, and he ended up finding it hard to even properly articulate his newly large fingers at first. What's more...It seemed like he couldn't turn it off either, unlike other heroes he knew of with similar types of abilities being able to turn off at will. He was horrified even as he was given his money...But that wasn't the end of the deal, because it turned out the contract he had failed to properly read stated that Douglas had to become a hero working for the NHF.
After that day, Douglas was given the name "The Silver Sentinel", and was sent on various missions under the NHF. The Foundation tried to push him out into the public eye for a bit to gage responses, but when it turned out he wasn't really that eyecatching, he was put towards the back of their roster. Really, he became only used for catching small petty criminals the bigger heroes couldn't be bothered to stop, or just act as support in battles...Sort of like a shield, they described, although Douglas felt the more accurate descriptor was "Meatshield".
One day, the Silver Sentinel was told to fight against a villain that had been spotted in the area he was sent to patrol in at the time, thanks to being the closest. Even with his slow speed, Douglas would be able to make it before the other heroes. As he arrived, however, Douglas found himself recognizing the villain that stood infront of him. She wore black tights and had long pale hair with purple tips towards the end, but the most notable features were a set of long metallic claws adorning both her hands...Ripe to cut anyone into pieces, as was a common occurrence for Sylvanna Torres, the Blade Queen. Douglas immediately felt she was way above his paygrade. He barely even GOT paid thanks to his low salary and essentially signing his soul away to the NHF. As the Blade Queen smirked towards him, Douglas couldn't help but feel his metallic body shake in fear.
"Well...Isn't this a sight?" The Blade Queen spoke as she strut towards the Silver Sentinel, acting as if she was in no danger of being stopped whatsoever, "I don't recognize you...You new to the gig?"
"N-No...I-I've...been a hero for a few years now." The Silver Sentinel responded fearfully, feeling that if he refused to answer she may just claw him into pieces on the spot.
"Huh, really? Never seen ya before." The Blade Queen placed one of her clawed fingers on her chin, tapping it a few times as if trying to remember. "Hm...Name?"
"S-Silver Sentinel..."
"...You're the guy that gave Dr. Fear a run for his money and finally brought him in?!" Blade Queen suddenly remarked in surprise.
"U-Um...That was Silver STREAK, Miss..." Douglas quickly corrected, not wanting to be mistaken for such a well-known hero that could easily get him targeted.
"Oh, darn...Thought I had you for a second there. What HAVE you done then?" Blade Queen tilted her head in confusion towards the bulky hero.
"Mostly just take hits for others and bring in petty robbers...Nothing like supervillains like you." The nervous hero explained, "I-It really would be a waste to kill me right about now."
"Eh, killing is never a waste." The Blade Queen shrugged as she approached him, running a claw along Douglas' armored chest as she looked him over, "...Although you admittedly do make me question that a bit. Why did they send a square like YOU after me?! Where's Polaris or Blastburn!?"
"I'm...not actually sure. Neither are working for the NHF, so they just do their own thing..." Silver Sentinel flinched at the woman's yell before he explained. His face went pale at the sight of the claw running along his armored coating. Sure, he couldn't feel it there, but he was pretty sure she could've broken through if she tried hard enough.
"You're with THOSE jerks? You must either be brainwashed into their ideals hard, or they've got some dirt on ya." Blade Queen glanced up into his eyes, squinting...She was alot more intuitive than the hero had thought before this. He had assumed that she was just a crazed mad woman before this, but seeing her now...Sure, she still seemed pretty crazy, not alot of sane people would be as manic of a serial killer as she was, but she still had an air of strategic thinking around her.
"You're...not wrong, I guess...They have a contract-"
"Contract? Seriously man, you're covered in tough metal and you're gonna let a little old contract stop you from doing what you want?" Blade Queen interrupted, looking at him almost disappointed.
"W-Well...I could get arrested if I don't do what they say." Silver Sentinel tried to explain.
"...And? I get arrested all the time, and I'm here now, ain't I?" Blade Queen questioned, smirking. Admittedly, that was a good point...Super-powered People break free of prison all the time. Even if he was pretty easily-overpowered in the grand scheme of things, Douglas still had power. "Aren't you tired of being nice all the time? Don't you just wanna go apes-"
"Please don't swear..." Douglas suddenly interrupted her as he looked down at her, before experiencing a panic at realizing he had just interrupted the words of an insane woman with very sharp weapons. Expecting to suddenly be stabbed in the eyes, the man quickly shut them tight and braced for the pain, only to not feel any. Infact, he heard laughter instead from the villainess.
"Yeah man, just like that!" The Blade Queen spoke after her laughter subsided, "Don't just let them get away with using ya as a puppet. One of the best reasons for living is being free and doing whatever you want!" The clawed woman spread her arms out, raising them up. "Go up to them and tell them 'Screw off, I have the superpowers here!'"
While he admittedly shouldn't have been listening to the advice of a villain, Douglas had to admit it WAS sound advice when you get past that part...Technically, all she was doing in this part was telling him he needed to stand up for himself.
"You're...right." The Silver Sentinel admitted, "I've just...Always had trouble speaking up to people and denying them things, so it's difficult for me to go right out and say that."
"Hm...How about ya hang with me for a while then?"
And just like that, the Blade Queen had essentially taken in the Silver Sentinel and the two started to spend time together...Albeit very secretly since Douglas absolutely couldn't be seen "hanging out" with a mass-murdering serial killer. That would absolutely brand him as some kinda supervillain, although over time he started to feel like that was the better option for him anyway...The New Heroes Foundation was going to try to control not only him, but all heroes they could get their hands on, and it was time for him to stand up for himself and fight against those that try to tell him what to do for once...He would not let himself be controlled any longer.
And the Blade Queen was more than willing to back him in this quest...As long as she got to cut a few people up. Silver Sentinel ended up accepting, on the condition that it would only be the officials trying to manipulate heroes like him, and not anymore innocents. It took a bit, but she eventually relented and agreed to try playing by those rules for a while to see how it would go.
You are a Class E hero. You show up to fight your Class E villain; as scheduled. Terror hits you as you see the a Class A supervillain standing there.

I just discovered this post from a YouTube video and I can't help but think up ideas for it too, even though I don't know that much about Muppets stuff.
Dick makes frequent appearances on Sesame Street as a guest star, and is always willing to do musical numbers and stuff like that. The producers feel bad when they have to deny him the opportunity.
Jason wouldn't be caught dead on Sesame Street, the other Outlaws would never let him live it down...Although Bizarro would probably adore it atleast. Eventually, Bruce goes to him to request that he be a guest. Jason refuses adamantly, until he discovers that the episode is about teaching to help those experiencing poverty, how to stand together in the face of difficult lives caused by money troubles and lack of food. He never really paid much attention to the Muppets, believing it was just baby stuff that Bruce just uses to his advantage to look like an idiot, but he learns it's actually teaching children valuable information that they should know, and Bruce believes that he's the right person to go on to talk about what it's like to be in a situation like this. And so, he does, recounting stories from his past (Albeit probably simplified down a bit to be okay for kids) before he was adopted by Bruce. By the end, he has all the Puppeteers on the verge of tears and wanting to give him a hug, which they promptly do in the form of all the puppets. He still believes it was embarrassing, but also feels like he helped teach something and would hopefully make things better. If the price of that is a little teasing, he can handle it...And oh boy, he does indeed get teased for it. Albeit in a light-hearted way not meant to actually demean him. Infact, they're all proud of him.
I can imagine Tim being brought in during a Muppets Special where they have to solve a mystery, with Tim being portrayed as basically just some kid who loves riddles and mysteries. He ends up getting into a rivalry with one of the Muppets (Not sure who, because again I don't really know that much about them) over who can solve the mystery first, and is a bit embarrassed by how seriously he takes said rivalry.
Damien sees it as the most insulting thing possible, and ends up death-glaring Kermit and Ms. Piggy's puppeteers every chance he gets. To the point where they end up going to Bruce to ask him for help because it's starting to genuinely feel like he's planning an attempt on their lives at that point. Although at some point, the franchise does end up growing on him, and reluctantly gives his blessing to the puppeteers if they ever genuinely want to marry his father.
At some point, Bruce himself returns to Sesame Street to talk about the pain of experiencing your parents pass away and becoming an orphan, for once shedding the wealthy himbo playboy angle. He talks about how difficult it was for him for some time, how he built up his walls and pushed everyone away from him. However, he eventually found a light at the end of the tunnel and was able to feel happy again with the support of those he called his family and friends. He talks about how much he wanted to make sure others who experienced pain could come out into the light just like he did.
No citizen is used to seeing Bruce this eloquent and mature, thanks to his himbo playboy angle. They know how much he cares, thanks to all the money he pours into charities and all the kids he adopts, but it's still shocking to see him so outspoken about these issues. Bruce then realizes he got a little too into it, and promptly asks if they could tell Ms. Piggy and Kermit how cool he was for that speech as a way to distract from it.
I feel like Bruce Wayne projects the kind of amiable playboy 'fun' vibe that he'd be the type of celebrity that certain interviewers feel comfortable surprising with puppies.
You know the kind of shows I mean.
The late-night talk show situations where they're making benign small talk with their smiling guest, and there's a segment where animals get brought out, usually to talk about some sort of ecological relief effort.
So you're watching your trash TV talk show late at night, and you get to watch billionaire pretty boy Bruce Wayne be begrudgingly talked into holding a (relatively) harmless creature which inevitably gets a lot of delighted shrieks from the audience as it starts being a lot more active than the handler promised. And to his credit, Bruce doesn't flinch, he doesn't freak out. But his eyes are a little wide, and his voice a little tight as the smile on his face takes on a slight rictus quality before he's inevitably rescued by an apologetic handler who is also laughing because they all know there was no real danger, it was just funny to put Bruce, who is an undeniable good sport and already laughing along, out of his comfort zone for the sake of charity.
Meanwhile, up in the Justice League headquarters, several founding members of the League are wondering how fast they can get a fake Oscar award shipped to the space station because fuck off. Absolutely fuck off, Bruce. Where the fuck did he study? Juilliard? (Probably.)
(Clark ends up going to a novelty store during the commercial break. It's faster than trying to get anything shipped, even with the infrastructure Bats built for them. He finds it several days later taped to his console in a conspicuously empty briefing room. It's gaudy and awful, the words "Best Actor" engraved on the plaque. No one's around to see him smile. No one comments when it vanishes. Everyone thinks it's been yeeted out an airlock. Dick absolutely comments when it shows up in the manor, stashed in one of the trophy cases that sprung up for all the bat kids' school awards. Bruce has no idea how it got there. Must have been Alfred. (It was not.))
Anyway, consider, for your amusement, Bruce Wayne getting highjacked on The Gotham Toight Show with a handful of wriggling puppies and, for a split second, not having to pretend he's delighted to be there.

Redesigning Public Domain Characters: The Blue Bolt

While on a trip to practice football on a remote mountain with some friends, Harvard Student Fred Parrish had his plane struck down by lightning, only to be rescued by Dr. Bertoff, who reveals that the lightning is stuck in his body, and through practice, he's able to become a hero names Blue Bolt.
The existing backstory is overall pretty solid, but there are a few things I'd change.
-Make it just a regular vacation trip gone awry instead of practicing football on a random deserted mountain. Fred and his pals were going to some tropical paradise, but got caught in the storm and Fred was the only survivors. This is his first smack in the face that causes him to look at how bad life can truly be.
-Emphasize that Fred is spoiled rich, and have his arc be him being humbled by the role of hero. Before, he was just enjoying his family's riches, and didn't really care about the circumstances of anyone else. But as he becomes a hero, he finds himself having to look at the conditions others are in. Villains he faces either reflect his past selfishness or make him show his growth by using his newfound heart to emphasize with them.
-And now time for the tie-in to my actual lore. His powers are sort of a mix of magic and science. Dr. Bertoff is a skilled scientist, sure, but he's also been researching magical knowledge for years as a way to try to harness it. He was scorned by his fellow scientists for this because of how hated magic is by most people in this world, causing him to move out alone onto this island. The phenomenon Fred experienced essentially awakened magical electrical abilities in his body by acting as a strong shock to his system, and the suit Bertoff makes for him helps regulate and control these powers.

I just realized I could use this as another place to share my art, so now time to spread my Redesigning Public Domain Characters series to here.
Redesigning Public Domain Characters: Purple Claw
In the original, Dr. Jonathan Weir was given a magic purple claw by an African Tribe...For no reason other than him discovering them.
In my Reworked version, he stumbled upon a dark ritual held by a group of Dark Mages known as the Mystic Circle, who cursed him to be a living weapon for them. He now struggles to control himself and break free from the claws influence, all while the Mystic Circle use him to further their goals of wiping out non-magical humans.
The Mystic Circle is a part of my OCVerse's Lore, and is a story for another day (That symbol on the Purple Claw is their logo). As for the design, I wanted to emphasize that he has absolutely seen better days, since the existing Weir is very much clean-cut and fancy-looking. This version of him probably still looked like the original at some point, but being a human weapon does something to a man.
#art#artwork#public domain#superhero#fanart#redesign#this is my most recent one but I figured it's good enough by my standards to start with.
