I'm trying to get a solid idea of Talia al Ghul as a character for the longfic I'm (re)writing, could anyone recommend some good comics to read that'll give me an idea of her?

I know there are a fair share of racist storylines that have been forced on her and I want nothing to do with those *side eyes Grant Morrison and Tom Taylor*

I'm hoping to read a comic by someone who actually loves and gets her character so hopefully I can do the same 💜

Any comics that focus on her, her relationships with her family or just showcase some of her more consistent character traits would be amazing.

I feel like this fandom needs to embrace more of Duke’s chaotic side.

Duke canonically managed to somehow surpass the security of a cop car, throwing himself out of it, while it’s still moving, OVER A BRIDGE, and managing to land into the water below, and it’s barely brought up.

Like, I know the bat fam are capable of doing crazy shit, and have canonically done said crazy shit, but come on. There’s no way that’s just something to, like, never get brought up again. Especially with how much Duke runs his mouth like the Gen Z savage king he is. There’s no way he doesn’t bring it up, ESPECIALLY if he’s trying to be petty.

The Reverse Robin au except the first Robin is literally just a big chunk of Gothams youth population, like just several teens ranging from 13 to 19 dressed up in red, green, and yellow clothes committing mass acts of vigilantism, identifying as one individual. They're somehow organized as fuck and have a lil scheduling system which only allows 10 Robin's out per night. Eventually Bruce is like "ok this fucking ridiculous, we're choosing ONE Robin" and all the other Robins nominate Duke. And while this point forward (at least till a couple years later) Duke is Bruces only Robin, it doesn't stop Duke from having Robin family reunions in the Wayne Manor backyard

So I've heard people talk about how they're not really a fan of The Book of Shiva arc so far due to the fact there is very little Cass in them, and I get it, she should be in her own series more. But it's only been like two issues and if this series ends up going on for 70+ issues like I'm so badly ✨manifesting✨ then that's not really a big deal.

And also, Shiva is a major part of Cass' character. I think understanding her is and will be an important step into understanding Cass throughout this solo and going forward in general.

Plus, Shiva is an interesting and compelling character all on her own, which is why I don't mind so much. If it were David Cain, I'd have an issue, not because he's not interesting too but because he's not interesting without Cass. Their relationship is what makes Cain interesting, outside of that he's just another guy who kills people (in my opinion)

Whereas Shiva has so much lore and interesting character traits to unpack, yes, she's also very interesting with Cass but I can read a few issues without her too, especially knowing it's likely going to add on to how we view the characters and stories in this run going forward.

And while I have mixed feelings on the backstory so far, I like it overall and I've enjoyed what I've read for the most part (I could be missing something here so feel free to give me your takes 💜)

Plus I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's comic since everyone's freaking out over it 😅

i don't really like "THE BATBOYS" as the idea of a group, because it just feels like a way to exclude the girls. If you say The Wayne kids/Batman's kids, then you have to include Cass. If you say Robins, you have to include Steph (even if many people don't really do that).

what are your thoughts on tiffany fox?

I've only read her in Batwing but I can safely say I LOVE her. She's crazy smart, so brave, adorable as hell and pretty funny too. I really like her dynamic with Luke throughout Batwing, it's so sweet and fun to read. I would have loved to see her more with Tam but, well, DC did it's thing and fridged yet another female character so 🤷🏾‍♀️

But overall, I think she's a great character with a lot of potential. I could honestly see her being an Oracle-like figure to one of the younger hero teams when she's a little older.

All in all, I adore the lil genius 💜

Btw just for the record Tim Drake has completely unprompted kissed Stephanie Brown while they were not dating the EXACT amount of times Steph has unprompted kissed him while they were not dating. All of these instances are coincidentally written by the same man. Hm. Weird!! It’s almost like Dixon didn’t think that kissing someone randomly without consent as anything but a way to build romantic tension and therefore wrote characters doing so repeatably!! It’s almost as if it says Literally Nothing about Steph’s character!! It’s almost as if painting Steph as abusive or predatory for kissing Tim unprompted while ignoring that Tim Drake did so FIRST (and again. the exact same amount of times.) might be motivated by ulterior motives!! Weird!!

Do you have any ideas on how I could add Duke to my Reverse Robin AU? Every time I see a Reverse Robin AU, nobody ever does it right (definitely an objective fact and not just me having strong opinions on how it should be done. definitely), and so I’ve decided to make my own, but I don’t know enough about Duke to know where to put him. He’d be at the start somewhere, since Duke canonically comes along near the end, and my start has Damian first, he moves out and makes his own identity at 18, Bruce finds Spoiler out on her own, and he helps her get her dad arrested, gets Crystal into rehab, and fosters Steph while she’s there. Eventually Steph ends up dying to Black Mask and resurrects as Red Hood (not called Red Hood, just like the mantle of Batman’s Partner is not called Robin, but it occupies the same role). I can’t imagine Duke coming along AFTER Steph is already dead, but idk where he would fit in before that, either. I don’t want him as one of the actual official Robins in this bc We Are Robin wasn’t actively working as the direct partner to Batman himself, and that’s what I’m using to make this, but that also means I’m stuck.

Well, there's a few ways you can go about this depending on what you want to do.

Firstly, you likely could have Duke come in after Steph dies as it could mirror the role Tim took on in canon when Jason died and also be in line with Duke's story in We Are Robin when the movement essentially started due to the absence of Robin and Batman.

Before becoming Signal, Duke was thinking of going by Lark. You could have him seeing Steph's absence the same way the WAR kids noticed Damian's in canon and have him decide to step up as his own vigilante. Though he only really got into WAR after a little push, before that he was completely and utterly focused on finding his parents.

Speaking of, his main motivation at the start of (and throughout) WAR is finding his parents. Everything else comes second. In the first issue he ended up in a sewer full of homeless cult zombies when searching, so it wouldn't be out of left field for him and Bruce to run into each other while Duke is searching for his parents.

Duke and Bruce actually knew each other before We Are Robin too. They met around six years before during the Zero Year Arc where Riddler defeated Batman and took over the city. At one point the Thomas' looked after Bruce when he was injured and that's when he got to see baby Duke in action gearing up to take on the Riddler via making a riddle he couldn't solve.

So if you really don't feel right about adding Duke after Steph's death. You could weave him in when Spoiler and Batman are hunting down Cluemaster since Duke's a great puzzle solver and he could bond with Steph through that. Or make your own version of a Zero Arc and have him meet them during that?

Duke and Bruce met again during the Endgame Arc which is where Duke's parents got gassed and driven insane while Batman saved Duke from the same fate. You could have something like that go down before Steph's death and maybe have Bruce foster him?

Anyway, there's a lot of different directions you can go with Duke depending on your story. Good luck with it! 💜💜💜 also please feel free to drop a link when it's posted bc your AU sounds awesome so far!!

I used to be a big HP fan (I wrote fics and everything) but I had to stop bc no way am I ever engaging with something spearheaded by someone so utterly hateful, cruel and willfully ignorant to the pain of those outside her little bubble.

At some point you do have to bring morals into the conversation and think "is this thing I like worth hurting others over?"
