It always makes me sad when people use fanfic as an insult, not only because I personally write it quite a lot, but because I've read works on ao3 that are pure art. That makes these worlds, characters and relationships really feel real, no matter how crazy the scenario is.

There are works that have made me laugh, cry and even heal a little. Works with gorgeous prose, brilliant character arcs, hilarious jokes and heart wrenching scenes; all being put down because they're 'just fanfiction.' As if fanfiction doesn't come from a place of love, inspiration, creativity and passion.

Yes, there are cringe works out there, but let's not act like the publishing industry has a leg to stand on with that either. Fifty Shades, anyone? Twilight? All those old racist, sexist and homophobic books that we call 'classics?'

Part of the beauty of fanfiction is the freedom and experimentation that comes from it. That it's just a community of people writing what comes into their head and seeing how it turns out. And a lot of times it turns out to be amazing.

So, yeah. It makes me sad when I see people putting fanfic down. Because so many authors have impacted me through their writing, haven't gotten a penny for doing what they do and are getting sneered at by both fans and so-called 'real' writers on top of that.

The batkids have two support groups: The Dead Mothers Society comprised of Dick, Babs, Helena, Jason and Tim, and the Haha Losers My Mom is Awesome and Alive club comprised of Steph, Damian and Duke.

Cass bounces between these groups at a rate that is growing concerning.

The duality of Cassandra Cain is that she treats roughing it in the gutter, eating rats, enduring freezing temperatures and cauterizing her stab wounds with cigarette lighters like a fun day at the beach, but also she will use all of the hot water every time she showers, she will put buckets full of sugar on everything she consumes, she will spend all of her time out of costume in soft fluffy slippers and she will not be pried away from her luxury duvet until she's good and ready with anything less than a crowbar. She's got a whole childhood's worth of simple everyday pleasures to discover and catch up on shamelessly indulging in and she shall not be denied.

Bruce wants so badly for Cass not only to be like him, but better, completely spotless, untainted and perfect. To the point where he doesn't see her, only his idea of who she is. What she is to him. Even when he sees the video of her killing that man he refuses to actually see it, acknowledge it, because that would mean the impossibly perfect image of her would be proven to be an illusion, and despite supposedly being the world's greatest detective, he refuses to put the pieces together because it would reveal something shattered. It would show him that Cass isn't perfect.

Whereas Barbara sees, knows and acknowledges that Cass isn't perfect. That while she's like Bruce, she's not him or the idealised version of Batman he so badly wants. She doesn't completely understand Cass, but unlike Bruce, she's willing to try.

Just saw a work on ao3 with a tag saying "this author actually reads comics" right after using the tags the 'War Games Arc' and 'canon compliant.'

Like, dude, sweetheart, my sibling in whatever belief system of your choosing; using War Games as the comic to proudly show you read them isn't the flex you seem to think it is.
